Amsterdam Itinerary
2023.05.28 01:23 CabicoPT Amsterdam Itinerary
Hi
So, I'm planning a trip to Amsterdam and since I've never been there, please rate my itinerary and give me some recommendations on where to eat (and what to eat - I really like to try regional foods).
I made a line of places where I will pass and it will be something like this:
Day 1 - half day (arrive at city around 1 PM)
Damrak - Dam Square (National Monument; Nieuwe Kerk church; Royal Palace of Amsterdam) - Negen Straatjes - The Béguinage (Begijnhof) - The flower market (Bloemenmarkt) - Zuiderkerk church / Nieuwmakt square / Chinatown district of Amsterdam - The Red Light District
(two friends told me that it should be a lot for day 1 and just half a day but I really think I can power through)
Day 2 - full day
The Cheese Museum - Jordaan district - Anne Frank House (I have ticket purchased) - Rijksmuseum - Van Gogh (I have ticket purchased) - Vondelpark
Day 3 - half day
Skinny Bridge - Albert Cuyp Market - Heineken Experience (I have ticket purchased) - The Red Light District
All sites are in order to make it more convenient for me to move around.
I have planned another visit to the city next year where I will visit some more distant places like Windmill de Kat.
So my 3 questions are:
- Ideas for other places I could be missing in my itinerary line?
- Lunch / dinner spots for traditional Dutch food and beer (It might be a good idea to mention that I don't intend to spend a fortune). The only recommendation I have is Proeflokaal Arendsnest (I was thinking of going there for lunch).
- What will the weather be like in June?
Thank you!
Edit: I'm considering a trip with Those Dam Boat Guys. Can anyone share their experience?

2023.05.28 00:45 SlightAd724 Find new friends who are genuine and interesting
Hi everyone! I'm from Toronto, I'm currently a freelancer and I'm 30 years old. I recently traveled in California and now in Maryland. Since coming here, I've been busy planning my itinerary and exploring new cities, but I've found that I haven't made many friends other than exploring the city. I am eager to expand my social circle and make new connections.
I love life, I like to try different things, I am full of curiosity and creativity, I like to explore various fields, pursue a better self and a broader development space, pay attention to the quality of life, and have high requirements for work and life . I am an introverted, friendly, patient person who pays attention to details and respects the feelings of others. My hobbies are tennis, surfing, skiing, diving, go-karting, traveling, reading and enjoying good food. I like gentlemen with humor, mature and stable men, and I like to explore various fields like me. I hope the other party is over 35 years old, have the same hobbies, and can do things that I like together.
I hope that friends who are interested can join my circle of friends, and we will share the details of life together. Please DM or leave a message.

2023.05.28 00:17 Smeato Route Ideas for Europe in September - Starting from Amsterdam
Hello!
My wife and I are well seasoned tourers in our home country of Scotland. Last year we took a month touring our home (I posted about it
here! ). We have never toured on the continent but really want to - 5 years of rain, mountain passes, wind and midgies have made us consider celebrating our recent marriage with an 'easy' tour of flat roads and decent weather.
Our current idea is to take the Train from Glasgow to Newcastle and then take the overnight ferry to Amsterdam. Then take a train from Amsterdam to somewhere reasonably far away (~2000km) and then spend 3-4 weeks cycling back to Amsterdam and home.
That sort of distance can get us... well... anywhere from the meditereanan to the Baltic to Czechia to anywhere inbetween and frankly we're completely lost in the sea of options.
Does anyone have any ideas for a long distance route finishing in the Netherlands?
What are people's thoughts on the Eurovelo routes? Are they decent? Are they all of similar quality or are some pretty poor?
Basically we are completely leaving our comfort zone and need a direction to take.
Much love all.

2023.05.27 23:23 friedgorgo Jazz and/or rock musicians?
Hi,
I (33m) recently moved to the Amsterdam area. Due to a number of circumstances, after working in tech for 8+ years I am currently unemployed, and would love to go back to my main passion - playing music. I have a degree in jazz guitar and I also play bass, write, and arrange stuff.
My dream scenario is to find a drummer, a bass player and another guitarist, go to a room and play all of Television's "Marquee Moon" for hours and hours, but I'm up for any type of session, mostly to have fun and maybe see if there's potential to start a project. I am a pretty competent jazz player as well.
Anyone interested?

2023.05.27 23:06 Cabotage105 How do I make socializing easier on a trip to europe
I’m currently on a trip to europe with one of my friends. We’re out for a month, and booked lots of time in each place (scotland, london, amsterdam, berlin)
We assumed we’d be in the same boat as all the other people in the hostels - looking for people to hang out/ socialize with - but in the past few days, we’ve found most people already are doing things and not a lot of people want to socialize.
I’m sure I’m doing something wrong and am in the wrong headspace, so if you have any tips on how to be aa better socialite while traveling Europe, please let me know.; I want to break out of my shell on this trip and stop being so shy.

2023.05.27 22:33 Sea-Sympathy5350 My wife cheated and my kids are not mine at all
I was married to a woman I met back in 2016, we had a great life, I know this is how all these stories start, but I thought this was real love. We got married in 2018 and 1 year later we had our first baby girl. It was an accident, but we were just so happy, we spent every night and day drooling over our daughter. We bragged to anyone that would listen. I had a full photo album for my daughter on my phone, everything about her first step, first haircut, first tooth, hell I took pictures of anything and kept it on my phone just waiting for someone to ask me about her. But they got a lot more than they ever expected, my work colleagues stopped asking and even warned new associates not to ask, Yes, I was the beaming proud daddy.
My daughter had just turned 2, My wife had made this wonderful dinner and her parents had already picked up our daughter for the night, I walked in after work and the lights were dimmed, the table was set for a romantic dinner, she had candles on the table, two bottles of what I assumed was wine. She was in the kitchen, when she walked out she was dressed as if we were going out for a fancy dinner, She had a sexy dress on, low cut and really over the top for a dinner at home, I walked up to her and grabbed her and gave her a kiss like no other, I had a bad day at work, it was one of those days nothing went right, and I got zero accomplished and was just frustrated and this was exactly what I needed. We sat down to eat, and I asked her why all the this, it was so far out of the normal. She said she had some awesome news; she was pregnant again. She had a visit with the Dr. earlier in the day, he confirmed she was pregnant and here’s the kicker, it was twins. That’s when she poured me a glass of wine and she took and opened the other bottle and that was when I noticed it was apple cider. I sat there absorbing all the information she just dropped on me, we were both ecstatic and twins nevertheless. Wow what a surprise, my mom was a twin, so we always knew this could be a possibility.
I was sitting there that night and thinking about how we would take my home office and change it into a nursery, It was no big deal, I rarely used my office, I would just checked my work e-mails in there and little else, I knew this would change our lives just like it had after the birth of our daughter. My wife didn’t work but spent a lot of time volunteering with the local social club, she had been doing this before we met and just continued for the entire time of our marriage. Her belly was getting plumper as time went by and our daughter was just so happy she was going to have 2 brothers, yes, we found out it was 2 boys. I love my daughter to death, but I always wanted a boy to play sports with and take them to boy scouts. I wanted to be the best dad to all my kids and would always support them in anything they wanted to do. After several months the boys were born in 2021, I was back to being the proud father of three children now, I bragged to everyone and showed pictures just like I did with my daughter. Me and my wife briefly talked about not wanting anymore kids and I was considering getting a vasectomy and she said that would be up to me.
A few weeks later I decided that I was going to have the vasectomy, I went to the doctor’s office and he said he needed to do a couple tests before setting up the surgery. I followed his request and took the test some were a bit invasive. He said he would call me with the results when they came in. A little over a week later the doctor’s office called and wanted me to schedule an appointment with the Dr. to review my results. This was strange, I thought that he would just set a date for the surgery, but now I was concerned, was there a problem with my tests and why he needed to see me in person. The following week I went into the doctor’s office, I was placed in his private office and was told he would be just a couple minutes. My nerves were raging as to why I needed this meeting, When the Dr. came in and sat down, he started by asking me if I had ever had an injury near my groin area as I was growing up. I thought about it for a few minutes, then I recalled that during high school I was on the baseball team and was hit by a ball in my groin area. I wasn’t wearing a cup and was in a lot of pain for the next few days but thought I was OK and just went on. I didn’t see a Dr. at the time, he looked uncomfortable and said he had to tell me something and I most likely wouldn’t want to hear it, then he said that I was sterile, and would never be able to have children, I told him he was wrong because I already had 3 children, he just looked at me not saying anything, but had a sorrow look in his expression, then It hit me like a ton of bricks just fell from the ceiling. He told me that would never have been possible, but I just kept saying he was wrong. He told me if I could get a sample from my kids, he would run DNA tests to see if I was the bio father or not. I agreed, I just knew he was wrong. He handed me the test to take home and instructed me how to collect the samples. I went home and just acted like life was fine and moved around the house as normal.
My wife went to the social club as normal, that’s when I took my daughter into her room and collected her sample, then I took one from one of the baby boys. The next day I returned to the Doctor’s office and was told he would call as soon as the results were in, and it could take a couple weeks. I got the call 10 days later, and the children weren’t mine… I had not said anything about the vasectomy to my wife, so she was unaware of any of the Doctor visits I had been making over the past month. When I returned home that night it was normal until my daughter went to bed and I let my wife know I needed to go out of town for work. This was something I had to do 1 to 2 times a year and not unusual. She asked me when I was going and where I was traveling to. I made up all the details at work, I even found an old itinerary of one of my past trips. I changed the dates on it and handed it to her so she knew where I would be each day and what times I would be in meetings.
As I was packing to go out on my business trip, my wife said she was going to have her parents take the kids for the next few days, she said she could use the time to relax in a quiet house to get some much-needed rest. OK the plan was set, I had placed a hidden camera in the living room, I set it up on my phone so I could watch in real time. When I left, I gave her a kiss and told her to get some needed rest and left the house.
I went to a motel about 10 miles away, I opened my phone to the camera app and just waited. Later that night, I seen when the AP showed up and I recognized him, he was the guy who ran the social club and he was married with 4 kids. My wife and I spent a lot of time with this couple, we were all friends, we had many dinners, parties, barbeques, and just hung out together. I went to my car and started the drive to my house, I parked on the street and checked the app and seen they were no longer in the living room. I opened the door in stealth mode, All his clothes were lying on the floor in the living room as well as on the stairs leading to our bedroom. I could hear something, but the door was closed, I grabbed all his clothes and threw them into the fireplace and hit the gas, making sure they were burning, then I walked to my gun safe, placed my 45 into my waist band, then I walked into the kitchen and grabbed 3 of those yard trash bags and put them in my back pocket hanging out. Then I took my phone out and started the camera to video the confrontation.
I was standing right outside my bedroom and could hear everything. I just stood there building my nerves before pushing open the door, I had my camera in hand, The looks on their faces were priceless. I walked in and in a nonchalant way and said in an overly calm voice “ don’t mind me I am just here for some clothes. He tried to get up and I just pointed at the gun in my waistband, he stopped and just pulled up the covers, I not sure what my wife was doing, and her voice was not coherent at this point. I walked to the closet and put all my clothes into 2 bags, the other one I filled with my stuff that was in the drawers and one last stop to the bathroom and collected my shaving gear. I walked to the door and stopped and said my next stop was his house, to tell his wife and show her the video I was currently making. I looked at my wife, I said I found out I was sterile, and the kids DNA was not mine. So, I am no longer responsible for child support for her affair children, and the house was all hers, as I would no longer be paying the mortgage on it. As I was leaving, I smiled and with a smirk in my voice told him he could find his clothes in the fireplace followed by a forced laugh.
I drove to his house, his wife invited me in, I asked her if she knew where her husband was, she replied he was at the social club, and I said no he sure wasn’t, I proceeded to show her the video. She was screaming towards me but not at me. She just burst into tears but I had no time for that right now as I was very distraught also. As I was leaving, I seen her husband show up as I was walking to my car, and he was wearing my wife’s robe rushing to the front door just to have it slammed in his face.
I didn’t talk, text, or email my wife again. The only time we spoke was through the lawyers, and never again in person all the way through the divorce proceedings.
My life changed that day and lost what I thought was my family but in fact was someone else’s.

2023.05.27 21:45 i_look_good_in_black This week on r/rentbusters: Posted on behalf of a Rotterdam student who is trying to make students aware of dubious contract practices by prominent letting agencies related to the University
A concerned student asked me to post this for her. She asked that I leave out essential information that could identify her. She didnt want to post under her own username on the tiny chance that someone deduces who she is. This case concerns landlord who force students to sign 1+1 year contracts which try to retain the best parts of a temporary contract and a permanent contract for the landlord. These contract types are against the law. They also cause students undue stress due to the constant scramble for housing that has no renters protection. We are currently preparing letters to send out to student tenants who might be getting taken advantage of this way.
REMINDER: YOUR LANDLORD IS NOT YOUR FRIEND
Hi guys, just wanna share a very important PSA, mostly relevant for students already in the Netherlands, Dutch or international, but important to know for incoming students as well.
If you or someone you know is renting with a temporary contract (say, 1 year), that was extended once already with another temporary contract, that contract is now permanent by law. If your landlord tries to tell you that they do not want to extend your contract again (after the first extension), that is just a suggestion that you can agree to or not. Your landlord has 1 chance to terminate your stay without justification, and that is at the end of the first temporary contract.
You can get a free and/or very cheap legal advice at Juridisch Loket. They offer advice in English and you can walk in during their opening hours without an appointment or you can call them.
It does not matter if you contract mentions Article 7:274(d) and/or (e), that article only states that they are allowed to evict in case you are not a student anymore. As long as you’re a student, your contract is indefinite automatically if it was extended past its first temporary term. When there is a dispute between the law and the contract, the law is always first.
Furthermore, it is always useful to check if you are paying too much for your rent. If you are renting a room in a shared apartment, use this link:
https://checkjeprijs.huurcommissie.nl/en/onderwerpen/huurprijs-en-punten/nieuwe-huurprijscheck/rent-check-dependent-living-space (English)
For my shared apartment alone, we paid in total a few thousand euro over the legal limit the past year. An official assessment can be scheduled for free. The landlord will not be informed of the assessment until you choose to follow up with the rent reduction. An official assessment can force the landlord to reduce your rent and also pay you back retroactively what you paid extra. Even if you are moving out this summer, you can still get an assessment of your rental price and get money back if you paid more than the legal limit.
As rental laws are changing next year, many landlords are scrambling this summer for a final cash grab. They might know the law better than you, but that just means they know how to operate around it until somebody checks. Your landlord is not your friend. Do not let them take advantage of your or your fellow students.

2023.05.27 20:45 Chronosuu Amalfi Coast Day Trip Advice
Hello! Looking for advice as my friends and I want to plan a trip to the Amalfi Coast!
We are planning to head to Ravello, Amalfi, and Positano, ending the day trip with a ferry from Positano back to Naples. When we first planned the day, we intended to take a ferry from Salerno to Amalfi, then take a bus to Bomerano to hike through the Path of the Gods, with the trail ending at Positano. We plan to take a ferry from Positano to Naples to find a place to stay and prepare for the next day.
However one of my friends suggested that we explore Ravello, however after much thinking, I do not really know how to include Ravello in our current itinerary. Advice will be very much appreciated!

2023.05.27 20:13 mandoo_cat 5-7 Road trip from Las Vegas to Seattle, ideas on itinerary to avoid car break ins?
Hello,
Currently in the process of moving and doing a road trip across the US from NJ > WA. I’m currently in Vegas as was planning to drive through SF and along the coast of California to hit the redwoods, but after doing research I’m very worried about getting my car broken into in the Bay Area. I have a decent amount of luggage in the back seat. I can unload it every stop, but it would take a long time. Majority of luggage is locked in the trunk and I don’t plan on opening it.
Any ideas on a safe itinerary that is scenic, has nature and reduces my chances of a break in? I have up to 7 days to get to Seattle.

- Dinner - 9PM-10PM
- Shimokitazawa-Shinjuku - 10-10:30PM
*I’m considering replacing Kamakura with Harajuku if this day’s pretty heavy. Then adding an Akasuka stop on my last day for a nature vibe
Day 4: TOKYO DISNEYLAND - 7:15-9AM - Shinjuku to Disneyland
- 9AM-9PM - Disneyland/Packed Lunch
- 9-10:15PM - Disneyland Shinjuku

- Free time/Lunch - 10AM-4PM
- Ueno to Narita Airport - 4-6PM
- Leaving Tokyo - 9:30PM
Notes: - I’m thinking of replacing Ghibli Museum with Odaiba if I don’t get tickets. Would that be a good mix with Shibuya on same day?
- Thinking of just going to 2-3 temples in Kamakura since it’s summer (July-Aug) when I go and I do want to go to Shimokitazawa. My partner’s also more fond of the city view than temples. Is this enough time for Kamakura, and would it be ok to only go to Hokokugi and Tsurugaoka?
- Since my hotel is in Shinjuku, figured it would be ok to have Kamakura and Shimokitazawa together. Does the sched look ok, and does it give ample time for Shimokitazawa?
- On Kamakura and the weather, I’m also prepared to switch it up with Harajuku instead, then switching Day 5 Harajuku with Ikebukuro. Would that make more sense, or would my itinerary be too much city touring?
- Let me know if the itinerary still looks too packed. I put “free time” since I don’t expect to go to all the places listed, so we wouldn’t be too stressed out
- I placed Warner Bros Tokyo there given that’s the likely booking time, and Disneyland on day 4 since this is post-weekend
- Any food reccs on where to eat after Disneyland? Planning to pack lunch since it might be overpriced there. Current plan is dinner when I’m back in Shinjuku at 10:15
- I initially placed Asakusa early morning of Day 6, but it might just be less stressful I go to one place

2023.05.27 12:10 Hopeful_Hovercraft81 HELP - Traveling Solo in Singapore for a Day!
Hi! I'm going to Singapore this December with my fam but I have one day all to myself! We're already going to Merlion, Universal Studios, Chinatown, Little India, Gardens by the Bay on the other days.
So for my solo day, my planned itinerary is:
- Singapore Botanic Gardens, Clarke Quay, Fort Canning Park, Haji Lane, Orchard Road. Not sure which locations are close to each other so I'm hoping to get suggestions on the order as well as travel/commute options? Cheap food recos, must see's/must try's are appreciated as well :)
Feel free to suggest/add to my current itinerary! :D Thinking of squeezing ArtScience musuem too but not sure if I have timeeee
Thanks in advance! :)
EDIT:
- I'll be staying in Somerset area! I think Fort Canning is near
- Any suggestions on what to do in Clarke Quay?
- Want to end the day in Orchard Road if possible so shopping isn't rushed
- Any other nearby shopping malls?
