2023.05.28 09:23 kobeisdabest Qatar airways change policy

I bought an economy classic seat on Qatar Airways. It says it comes with the flexibility to make 1 change.
I booked a couple weeks ago on a day which had a cheap option, but after looking at my schedule a bit more I’m looking to change my flight date. I want to try to do it when I can get the best deal.
I plugged in a potential change and it said it would cost $200 more. Does anyone know, if I were to change the flight date, would it calculate the difference between the “price I paid”vs. the new ticket price, OR the “current market price” vs. the new ticket price?
Because if it’s getting the difference from the price I paid, then it’s likely that will keep increasing. But if it’s just calculating the difference by comparing the current price of my current day vs. the new day, then there’s more of a chance that I can do the change in the future and get a good deal on it.

2023.05.28 09:22 adam2696 Risk Vs Reward Update...

Ok So on Tuesday before Game 3, I created a post to see what our Dallas stars fans would risk for the reward of a single game win, series win, or Stanley Cup win. Here is how it currently sits. I think we need more from the group for these next 2 wins!

I, u/Adam2696, promised to get a Stars tattoo of some sort if they win the cup
I also promised to shave my head with a 1 blade if they won the next 2 games (at the time I was tlaking about game 3 and 4, but it didn't read that way, so pic below.
u/CrinkledStraw promised to get a Stars tattoo for a series win, and cut his hair very short for a Cup Win
u/Voodoo1285 promised to let somebody swoop in and steal the chick he was going after. I was unsure what conditions but it was something about Game 6, he also promised himself to the winner.
u/EskimowGamer promised to shave his head if we win cup.
u/Lucretzia37 promised to detransition if we win the cup.
u/clintwillsoar followed that up saying "Shit I'll chop mine if they make it past this round". Not really sure if he was offering to transition or cut his hair.

**DISCLAIMER** I am not attempting to conjour the dark arts.

2023.05.28 09:21 Puzzled_Conclusion42 I need help in finding the native language of my family.

My mother has always told my siblings and I about our great-grandparents, how the husband was from spain and the wife is native to the lands of mexico and how badly he mistreated her. My siblings and I had a hard time believing that we could be natives, because most of our aunts and uncles look white. Not white passing, like white white, but the other members of our family had darker features and most were white passing. My mother explained that in her side they had different parents so a majority of them were half siblings. While my father side they were the ones with a darker skin tone. But they were mostly mixed, I don't know if they were adopted or not. My parents don't really speak about their family, but when they do, they pass it off as happy memories, but they are actually sad. This year my oldest sister and I got a dna test. She is 50% native, I'm 73%, my mom is 82%, and my dad is 87%. I talked to my grandma and asked her if any of her family members spoke the native language and she said her mother did and that she never learned it and doesn't remember what language she spoke, but all she remembers is that it was beautiful. So it would be nice if y'all can give me ideas on how I can figure out what language they spoke. All my family know is Spanish and English which are European languages, but it'll be nice to know our language. A few more details about us we aren't close to our aunts and uncles, because they mistreated my mother, but she still talks to them, and I don't want to contact them as for our cousins in mexico that I know of they all speak spanish and the ones in the U.S just spanish and english. The DNA test just says that we are from South Texas, center and South of mexico. Like San Luis Potosi, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes and Jalisco. So if anyone is going through the same journey in finding their own roots it'll be nice if you could lend me some help.

2023.05.28 09:14 SAEDELINQUENT Concerned about Profile for Simon Business School MBA Program

Hi everyone,
I recently received an admission offer from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester for their MBA program. However, I have some concerns and would appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
To provide context, I have a degree in Political Science with limited post-graduation work experience. Initially, I applied for the MS Finance program and completed my interview. However, the school advised me to consider the MBA program instead, as they believed it would be a better fit since I am looking to pivot into finance or product management.
My work experience consists solely of an internship as a business/research analyst at a government agency's office. Unfortunately, my career plans were unexpectedly disrupted by the COVID pandemic. Upon graduation in 2021, I was selected to become a Naval Aviator in the Navy. However, due to pandemic-related backlog and a terror attack on the flight school, I faced over a year of waiting before being able to attend flight school. Regrettably, just a week before the officer training school this year, I suffered a stress fracture, leading to my separation from the Navy. The timing honestly couldn't have been worse.
Considering my background, I'm concerned about whether my profile meets the typical expectations for MBA candidates. These concerns have raised doubts about the school's genuine intentions, making me question whether my admission is solely to generate revenue rather than recognizing my potential. Additionally, I'm unsure how my internship and naval experience (which involved waiting without gaining work experience) may impact my eligibility for MBA internships and post-grad job placements, which are really important parts of the MBA path.
I would greatly appreciate your insights and advice on these matters. Am I making the wrong decision by accepting the admission offer? Would really appreciate any input.

2023.05.28 09:08 Witty_Post_7096 Forever and always

I don't know how this works or why I'm even doing this. It's been 14 years... I'm 33 years old and married to a wonderful woman. I wish I could say that she is the love of my life, but I can't. I don't believe in that shit. I can't. If I did then I would know that I let my one true love get away in 2009. Maybe I'm just seeing the past with rose colored glasses or whatever but I've never before or after been able to connect on the same level with another human being. We met at an ultra conservative Christian university. I've always been reserved and not very socially adept. I asked her out and our very first date we talked effortlessly for almost two hours, and I'd never had a conversation with a member of the opposite sex that lasted more than 5 minutes. Needless to say I was smitten from the start. I remember after the second date having the flight or fight response walking back to my dorm. I can remember exactly where I was behind the FMA thinking that it was going to end poorly for me. That was what one part of me was saying, but another part was saying that she was an amazing person and she would never hurt me. I remember consciously making the decision to let myself fall for her. And I fell. Hard. It went really well for a few months. I remember the smell of her perfume. I didn't like it at first but I grew to love it. After roughly 3 months of dating i was as smitten as humanly possible. It wasn't perfect. I remember taking pictures with her ive never been good at giving a genuine looking smile just for a picture. The only time it looks like I'm actually happy in a picture is when im laughing. Fuck pictures. Being with her was like that high i would never feel again. Maybe it was true love. Maybe i was just vulnerable enough and the circumstances were just right, but i thought i had lucked out and found my soulmate/future wife in the first girl i ever really dated. And i thought she felt the same way. She said she loved me. She said "forever and always". Then one day she gives me the dreaded "we need to talk". So we met by the gazebo and she dumped my ass. I remember walking back to my dorm about to loose my shit and telling myself to man up. I almost cried but i held it in. Anyway, I'm stupid now and 19 year old me was at least 1.5 times more stupider. But I never truly understood why she broke it off. I even asked her afterwards and she said some shit about us not being compatible. If that ain't some bullshit. Anyway, fast forward 14 plus years and I still have dreams about her. I know my heart will never be whole. I don't know if I meant anything to her at all but she fucked me up for life.

2023.05.28 08:55 affhot Mexico adds nonbinary option to passports in “great leap” for the “dignity of people”

Mexico has officially begun allowing citizens to identify as nonbinary on their passports.
Nonbinary Mexicans now have the option to select "X" as their gender marker, rather than male or female.
On Wednesday, May 17th, in honor of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, the Foreign Ministry held an event to celebrate its new inclusive policy and issue its first-ever nonbinary passport to magistrate and activist Ociel Baena.
Nonbinary Mexicans now have the option to select “X” as their gender marker, rather than male or female. Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard called the move “a great leap for the freedom and dignity of people.”
A statement obtained by Reuters from the Foreign Ministry explained that “people applying will be able to choose the marker ‘X’ for the box designating sex on their passport, and in that way they omit the need to specify gender.”
But not everyone is happy with the way the change has been rolled out.
Nonbinary Mexican activist and deputy director of global programming for It Gets Better Alex Orue told Reuters that the government is conflating gender and sex.
“It’s counterproductive because it confuses the concepts and reinforces a stigma against our community,” Orue said, adding that “NB” would be a better option than an “X.”
“It could seem like a minor detail, but it’s stigmatizing for nonbinary people and it becomes a matter of inspection of genitalia.”
Mexico continues to advance LGBTQ+ rights. In February 2022, the state of Guanajuato issued the country’s first birth certificate with nonbinary gender identification.
Also last year, the entire country achieved marriage equality after all 32 states officially approved it at the state level.
According to Human Rights Watch, over a dozen countries – including the United States – allow the designation of nonbinary identities on national documents.
In 2021, the U.S. issued its first passport with an “X” gender marker. That year, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the Department would also make it easier for transgender individuals to correct the gender marker on their passports by lifting the requirement for medical certification of one’s gender identity.

2023.05.28 08:52 andthisisthewell Using solo role playing games in education

As I work in education, it was only a matter of time until i had to mix my hobby and my job. THis week on TEigill's corner a report on a workshop I did in Madrid, Spain. Enjoy!
Taking theory to the table: Ludicity and education
When I give my students a writing assignment at work, I notice that they sometimes freeze. A text is a fragile product and an empty page is a deterrent. A friend of mine and I developed a one week immersive project on how to use strategies and methods from RPG’s as a writer. We did that last June and will hold it for the second time in a couple of weeks.
From May 2nd to 6th we went to Madrid to give a workshop at the EACWP pedagogic conference of European creative writing programs. To disseminate the result of this project and to immerse ourselves in different pedagogical approaches,
Gaming in Madrid
After the flight (in which we built a huge city together in Ex Novo) we went to the airbnb and explored the city the next day. We had a nice meal and played a one-shot Into the Odd. I had no experience with the system, and really enjoyed playing it. My brave character Camembert the folk hero died miserably in a rusty cage next to an abysmal pit.
Lately I've been getting more and more enthusiastic about mid-sized systems like into the Odds and Mörk Borg and I love myself an old school dungeon crawl. My first experience in playing RPG’s was with large systems such as AD&D, White Wolf and Genesys and apart from that I mainly played one page RPGs (Books and Bullets and other Lasers and Feelings hacks). The OSR systems that are somewhat in between these two have the lightness of one pagers and more extensive worlds like bulkier systems. I wonder where these OSR are fun for a campaign.
The workshop
We prepared a one-hour workshop. We thought it would have about fifteen participants and brought the dice for that. Imagine our surprise when almost forty people from different creative writing courses from all over Europe turned up. We were very happy with this turnout and were kind of surprised when we asked at the beginning: “who doesn't know what an RPG is” and almost a third of the participants grumbled 'I'.
We did a short crash course on what an RPG is, centered around the difference of a regular RPG game loop and solo one and the difference between ergodic and cognitive ludicity.

2023.05.28 08:43 PianistRight WHAT IF: Imagine Dragons went on the Origins Tour

So, here’s what I came up with for if Imagine Dragons toured Origins.
DISCLAIMER: This is a work of fiction

Part 1: The Beginning of the Tour

On December 21, 2018, Imagine Dragons announced the first US Leg for the Origins Tour, originally set from March 6 to April 17, 2019, with shows in Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tampa, Sunrise, Columbia, Raleigh, New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Boise, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City. 2 weeks later, they announced shows for Canada, lasting from April 28 to May 26, 2019, with shows in Quebec, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Victoria, Ontario, Winnipeg, Moncton, Saskatoon, Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton.
On January 27, 2019, the band announced Europe tour dates, lasting from June 6 to July 27, 2019, with shows in Riga, Vienna, Prague, Rome, Odense, Berlin, Madrid, Stockholm, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Kyiv, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Frankfurt, Werchter, and Gdynia.
On March 6, 2019, the Origins Tour began in Atlanta, GA. Opening Acts included Grouplove, Lil Wayne, and Elisa. In Canada, Yungblud replaced Grouplove for opening act, after Grouplove completed touring with Imagine Dragons on the US leg.
On April 20, 2019, tour dates were announced for South America and Central America, lasting from August 31 to November 6, 2019. With shows in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Quito, Lima, Caracas, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.

Part 2: Europe, Latin America, and addition of more dates

On June 6, 2019, Imagine Dragons brought the Origins Tour to Europe, beginning in Riga, Latvia. Opening Acts included Grace Vanderwaal (again), and AJR.
Just like in years past, they omitted the acoustic set for festivals.
On August 31, 2019, the Latin American tour began in Rio de Janeiro. Opening acts included K.Flay, Lil Wayne, and AJR
On December 6, 2019, one month after the Latin America Leg ended, Imagine Dragons announced 2020 tour dates for North America, lasting from January 28 to March 20, 2020, with shows in Boca Raton, Orlando, Tallahassee, Montgomery, Nashville, Austin, Dallas, New Orleans, Dallas, Albuquerque, Philadelphia, Detroit, Minneapolis, Denver, Las Vegas, Kansas City, and Boston.
On December 14, they announced dates for Asia, Oceania, and South Africa, lasting from April 5 to June 26, 2020.

Part 3: Early end + Covid-19

On January 28, 2020, Imagine Dragons began the new US leg of the tour in Boca Raton, FL.
With a new coronavirus being unleashed in Wuhan, China, Imagine Dragons announced that they will put the shows in the neighboring countries, including Hong Kong, on hold while the countries deal with this new outbreak.
Nonetheless, the continued touring the US. On March 11, 2020, Covid-19 was declared a pandemic by the WHO. Luckily the band performed at Las Vegas, their hometown, when the declaration was made. But 2 days later, lockdown orders were put in place. The Kansas City show was not scheduled until March 18, so they did not leave yet. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tour dates were postponed on March 15, 2020, and the tour was ultimately cancelled on May 2, 2020, bringing an early end to the tour. After the cancellation of the remainder of the Origins Tour, refunds were made available to all fans who ordered tickets before the cancellation.

2023.05.28 08:41 entangledrhyme Pigeon Flying in Brooklyn

The rustle and roil of morning wakes every bird, every fear from the borough. The stairwell echoes, footsteps mingled with light; I reach the trapdoor, where coos blur cars' friction on the tarmac below. I need to let go: With a meditative flap, their flurry takes flight from their loft, and flees to the brownstones tiling the sky.   The browns are inherited. Grandpa practised smoke rings when Granny worked two jobs. The greys are fat with neglect and trip during ascent. Mother never liked them, nor me, nor anybody. The speckled ones are new: still sore and stiff—fly only if nudged. Alan set the TV volume loud all day, every day.   Under a relaxed sky Brooklyn bustles; the sun perches on the horizon and dips and turns the winds rowdy, and they flutter down like a panic attack: each of my pigeons is a racing homer; fear always finds a way back home.

Please help with constructive feedback, also if you simply let me know which parts you like and which you don't would be good for me. Thank you for reading me.

2023.05.28 08:24 InvestigatorEntire45 Prisoners of the Snow Documentary

Prisoners of the Snow Documentary
I just watched a 20/20 special called Prisoners of the Snow. While watching, I couldn’t help but think of Yellowjackets and when I searched more about it, it seems it helped inspire Yellowjackets?! The documentary is incredible and after watching Yellowjackets and then this, and knowing this was REAL, is just insane.
From The Wrap:
“The two-hour documentary tells the story of the 1972 Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed into a remote location in the snow-covered Andes Mountains while carrying a rugby team traveling with family and friends to a match in Chile. Of the 45 passengers, only 16 survived the incident.”
“With reporting by ABC News contributor Chris Connelly, the two-hour documentary features new interviews with five of the crash survivors, Nando Parrado, Roberto Canessa, Carlitos Páez Rodríguez, Eduardo Strauch and Roy Harley, who share their firsthand accounts and stories of determination and perseverance, which helped inspire the popular series “Yellowjackets.”

If you’ve watched the documentary, what were your thoughts?
Definitely tackled the cannibalism topic, which was brutal.

2023.05.28 08:24 ggchappell Chicken Mole Recipe Needed

Once upon a time, I traveled to San Antonio (Texas). When I got there, a couple of friends took me to a mom & pop hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. I was tired and grumpy from some very long flights & layovers, and I didn't feel like reading a menu. I was told to order chicken mole. I did. It was heavenly. I would like to know how to make it.
I have since learned that there are a zillion kinds of mole. I'm looking for a chicken dish with a dark brown sauce that I'm told contains chocolate as an ingredient. Possibly this sauce is called mole negro (?).
I can google all this, of course. I did. The hits include lots of recipes, many with ingredients that strike me as improbable, like pumpkin seeds, peanuts, raisins, and Ritz crackers. There are a few recipe sites that I trust; none of them has a chicken mole recipe.
I have also seen claims that a real mole takes something like 3 days to make. I would like to avoid that, if I can.
So, do any of you have a chicken mole recipe that is (1) reasonably authentic, (2) very good, and (3) doable in a single day?
