Everything that we do to hurt one another comes from a perceived animalistic concept of 'Us' vs 'Them'. It is a curse that begets humanity, just as it does the animal kingdom. We want to feel like we belong, we are born alone, we are self aware, so we group. But groupings creates a sense of 'Us', and to protect 'Us', we can justify doing EVIL things to 'them'. War is just politically sanctioned 'Murder', and 'self defence' which turns into offense, continues the cycle of 'Murder' through revenge.

Resolution of 1516
January-April 1517, North Muscovy
The winter of 1517 was a particularly brutal winter, even by Russian standards. Both the Swedish and Livonian armies were forced to hunker down as the snows swirled around them. With both King Sten Svantesson and Wolter Von Plettenberg seeking to replenish their losses, they would have to wait until snow yielded to rain in the spring Rasputitsa. It was during this wet time that both of the reinforcement armies arrived. In this time of limited operational mobility, both armies moved to secure more of the Novgorod area. The Polish army, on the other hand, had withdrawn from the area to regroup further south, in a grand ducal army with the Lithuanians. An army from Pskov was also raised by their commanding general. Jan Radziwiłł died soon after he set out from the city, paralyzing his mourning army. By the end of April, both armies finally began their triumphal march out of their winter quarters to continue the crusade against Muscovy.
May 1517, Former Duchy of Rzhev
The two armies set out in two groups heading south east. The Swedish army's goal is the city of Tver, and the Livonian army‘s goal is the city of Rzhev. As has been a common pattern in this war so far, the scouting of the four armies is mostly lackluster. The stars had aligned so that the two Russian armies would attack the Livonian army, whose scouts were underperforming in these wide open spaces. As has also been a pattern in the war so far, the Russians fail to coordinate their attacks. Plettenberg’s army would meet Mozhaisky’s outside of Goroshin.
The First and Second Battles of Goroshin, July 1517
With both armies taking up excellent positions, the battle would begin with a textbook artillery opener from the Livonian forces. This will be followed up by a monstrous hail of arrows from the seemingly endless Muscovites archers, greatly thinning the Livonian infantry. As the terrain here around the Volga is poor for cavalry, the Livonian knights unhappily dismount to fight as heavy infantry. The Muscovites brought plenty of mounted skirmishers, but their effectiveness would be limited by the wet ground. With the knights proper dismounted off their horses, this left only the Livonian squires as the cavalry forces for the Livonians. This would prove to be an excellent move as the lighter armored cavalry men would not be slowed down by the knights’ heavy armor. The Muscovite left flank could not hold a candle to those young squires, eager to prove themselves, and they were the first to leave the field. Despite this initial victory, the Muscovites would not let them have it easy. The large numbers of Muscovites mounted skirmishers would rain javelins upon their enemies, unchallenged by the Livonians. It would, however, be the squires that once again would prove the nail in the Muscovite coffin as the Muscovite right cavalry flank was scattered by their spirited fighting. The horn to signal the retreat was soon sounded by the Muscovites, and the Muscovites made a very organized retreat away from the field, safe, but dispirited.
It is soon after this, that the second Muscovite army commanded by Shuysky, would catch up to the Livonians from behind, as part of a failed pincer movement. It is here that the Livonians, for the first time in the war, would have a rather lackluster artillery performance to open the battle. But, to their luck, the Muscovites would prove even worse. This army would prove to be very different from the one that they had just fought, as it appeared much smaller, but better armored. The Muscovites would from now on employ a different tactic against their opponents, and would use their own cavalry to merely keep the enemies off of their infantrys’ flanks, which they do well enough here. As the battle goes on, and as well as the Livonians had been fighting, they were still tired from their previous engagement, and it became clear to von Plettenberg, that he must sound the retreat in order to save his exhausted army from destruction. The Livonian retreat is not particularly well executed, as von Plettenberg is not used to retreating, but on the flipside Shuysky is not used to winning, and his pursuit of the Livonians is ineffective, who manage to get away. The Livonians retreat to Volgo, where they will spend the rest of the season recovering from a grueling gauntlet of a month, and establishing occupations to link themselves up to Lithuanian supply lines.
May-December 1517, Torzhok Area
To their north, the Swedish army under the command of Sten Svantesson attempts to march across a rather desolate area of land. After a light amount of progress, it quickly becomes apparent that their supply lines will not enable them to reach their target [<1], without linking up with the Livonians to their southwest, and the Lithuanian supplies that flow to them. The Swedes will be forced to stop in Yazhelbitsy to figure out their supply situation, and will spend time occupying lands to their north and south. To complicate matters further, the autumn Rasputitsa would be even worse than the spring, enabling a breakout of the plague in the Livonian camp. To the far north the Karelian revolts will continue to gain steam and will occupy most of traditional Karelia.
January-July 1517, Former Grand Duchy of Smolensk
Meanwhile, to the south, the king of Poland is re-organizing his armies to coalesce around the city of Smolensk. Through the winter snows and spring rains, his army gathers ready to strike. Once the rains stop in early May, the army sets out under Grand Hetman Konstanty Ostrogski and Jan Amor Tarnowski. The plan is simple: the Grand Ducal Army, a combination of Polish and Lithuanian might, shall force the Muscovites from their positions at Dorogobuzh. The ancient fortified city of the Rus lies on the Dnieper river. Overlooking the city are two heights, from which the muscovite forces have taken up a commanding view of the river valley. Grand prince Dmitri, for his part, has left a professional army under Chelyadnin and a new army under Mikahil Bulgakov to defend the city. Hearing rumblings of the Grand Ducal Army long in advance. Dmitri would also send the word south to the army at Bryansk to join the fight, in Dorogobuzh. This army would take nearly a month to make it the greater distance north, however. With ample troops to cover the hills surrounding the city, the Poles will spend the better portion of two months failing to take either hill surrounding the city.
In August, Ostrogski will take stock of the situation that he is in and make a decision to begin the Bryansk campaign early. He will send half his army south down to the aforementioned city, in order to reclaim it for the Grand duchy of Lithuania. The hope is that with less of a concentration of force on the Muscovite side, he will be able to take Dorogobuzh slowly. The new force is led by yet another Jerzy Radziwiłł, and reaches Bryansk before the Muscovites do, who are led once again by Shemyachich. The already sacked city has hastily repaired walls and a Muscovite garrison. With this in mind, it should not be a surprise that the city falls quickly after some well-placed barrages from the Polish artillery. It would be noted that the Muscovite garrison was given no quarter by the Polish and Lithuanian conquerors. Shemyachich (and Ivan V of Ryazan) have finally caught up to them however, and Radziwiłł reasons that his cavalry are better suited to the open fields rather than inside city walls.
Battle of Bryansk, September 1517
The battle of Bryansk begins with a bang. Many of them, in fact, as both of the artillery batteries roared to life, and hit true on their enemies. The rest of the battle is a much more boring affair. The infantry nearly fight to a standstill, and the Muscovite cavalry, once again, attempts and succeeds to merely draw off the Polish cavalry from inflicting too much damage on themselves or their infantry center. After several hours of grinding fighting and mounting casualties, Shemyachich sees no path to victory for the Muscovites, and orders the retreat away from the city to hopefully cross the river Desna once again, back to the safety of Muscovy.
After a short rest in Bryansk, the polls and Lithuanians continue their so-called Bryansk campaign and split up once again, confident that the Muscovites will not reengage this year. They are able to take the city of Karachev this year and reclaim the city of Trubetsk in Ruthenia. Their campaign is cut short, once again, by a particularly intense rainy season with general Stanisław Lanckoroński even going down with a minor case of illness for a few weeks due to unsanitary conditions.
August 1517, City of Dorogobuzh
Back at Dorogobuzh, Ostrogski feels confident that he can throw his weight against one of the hills and finally take it. He chooses the south hill, for no particular reason other than he has a good feeling about it. Due to yet again, another Muscovite scouting failure, he is able to assault the hill with numerical superiority. Surprising the Muscovites with a furious attack, he’s able to take the hill rather easily. The Polish at this point do not have a large contingent of siege artillery, but the defenses of the city are not well-maintained, and thus are not difficult to blast open. Ostrogskii hesitates here at the open fortifications of the city, as he knows that most of his strength is concentrated in his cavalry's superiority. He sees fit to at least attempt an assault with the famed landsknecht taking point against the inferior Muscovite infantry forces. If it does not go well, he will simply have to think of another plan. Luckily for him, it does go well, and the famed mercenaries of Germany prove their worth as they force the Muscovites out of the city for good. Chelyadnin and Bulgakov retreat from the city back towards Vyazma. Due to the onset of the rain and the slog of the month’s battles, the Grand Ducal Army is not able to make much headway into Muscovite territory. Vyazma will have to wait until next year if there is one.

DWP sets out high-level strategy for evaluating and tracking the performance of the Health Transformation Programme
With reforms due to roll out nationally from 2029, the DWP has published its Health Transformation Programme evaluation strategy, in which it sets out how it plans to use a Theory of Change Logic Model to achieve the Programme's five key strategic outcomes -

• increased trust in services and decisions;
• a more efficient service with reduced demand for health assessments;
• increased take up of wider support and employment;
• improved customer experience with shorter journey times; and

DWP confirm who is taking part in the small-scale test of the digital PIP claim service
Following a written question by Sir Stephen Timms the DWP has confirmed:
"it is currently being offered to a small number of claimants who call the department to begin a new claim. Currently, we are offering the service to 60 claimants a day...
The following user groups are not currently in scope:

• Anyone applying in an official capacity (e.g. appointees),
• Anyone with a Welsh or Northern Ireland postcode,
• Anyone applying for special rules,
• Anyone with a previous or existing PIP or DLA claim,
• Those without a NINO or with a GY or JY postcode."

More than 100,000 universal credit households were subject to the minimum income floor in February 2023
Total number of households and proportion of all households with a self-employed claimant impacted by MIF have both more than doubled in the 12 months since March 2022.
Minister Guy Opperman confirmed on 24 May that in the most recent month for which data is available (February 2023) 111,000 households with one or more self-employed claimants were subject to the MIF (27 per cent of all households that included self-employed claimants).
Mr Opperman also provided figures for each month since March 2022, together with details of the number of individuals in households affected by the MIF.

Over half a million UC claimants sanctioned in a year for not attending interview
The latest statistics released by the DWP this month show that 541,000 universal credit (UC) claimants were sanctioned in the year to January 2023. The overwhelming majority of these, 530,000, were sanctioned for failing to attend or failing to participate in a mandatory interview.
The figures represent a very small fall from the peak sanction rate, but the number of claimants sanctioned is still more than double what it was pre-pandemic.

Receiving congratulations from the country's head of state, Kuu Taisei, and his wives, Taru and Leporina, were Halbert Magna, dressed in a white tuxedo, and Velza, who would become his wife today. I’m well passed late to the party, I know, but I just watched Ant-Man: Quantumania and…what is this movie lol.
I want it to be known for starters, this is not a pure hatred post, I did ENJOY the movie. However I am speaking on a more comics focused perspective (much like a book viewers perspective to Harry Potter) and it just doesn’t work for me.
First off, the tone. It tries so hard in the first half to feel mysterious, ominous and frightening. When all it’s met with is mediocrity. The quantum realm is shown with nothing but bright and vibrant pretty colors and creatures and people. Then they reference HIM, the aaaall ominous and terrifying HIM…but nothing goes to show why he is powerful, at least not yet. I’m a sucker for the whole “show, don’t tell” rule as you can imagine.
Secondly, and let’s just get this out of the way, MODOK…why is he even in this movie lol. Say what you will on looks, he just did not hit that FEELING of unrelenting arrogance and power. MODOK is supposed to be full of himself, though in measurable reason-as he is a high level robotics and engineering intellectual mind. In this movie? Dumb as a stump!! He is like the hulk or drax or korg for crying out loud!! His final moments are spent as a joke and each time he’s on screen he’s treated as one because, well, HE IS ONE!!
Now finally, for my final part…Kang. Let me expand on this firstly. Kang? Was the best thing in this movie for me-and all due credit is given to Jonathan Majors (I am more than aware of his current ongoing legal issues, of which I do not support and am horribly appalled by). His portrayal screamed nothing short of all that Kang is: a conqueror. To be a figure of power, sheer confidence, willpower, drive and more is required. And he brings this in spades-not only this but he DOES portray the arrogant and self righteous ruler that he is! To boot, whenever he had moments of heart, moments to reflect and show his true underlying character? I swear he was the only person with true humanity to them, all others felt cliche to me.
Which lies my next problem. This Kang, self proclaimed to be exiled by THE council of Kangs…because they feared him. What this means is he is close to being the most powerful version of Kang…who gets taken down by ants and a guy who shrinks and grows. The figure, who can travel across space and time, dominate entire universes and then conquer the next? THE power house who killed hundreds of versions of the avengers; which do include mind you Thor, Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange-arguable massive power houses in the MCU to date…is beaten by ants…and a guy who grows and shrinks. I will leave this final thought: next avengers film-Avengers: Kang Dynasty. Huge, right? Daunting, terrifying, ominous, down right horrifying.
Just go get antman :) if he can’t beat antman, but supposedly can kill all of these avengers? There’s your ace in the sleeve! ANT MAN AND ALL HIS ANTS!!!
For any and all who did love this movie, all the love and wishes and good things in your future blessed on you. Truly. For the causal movie goer who loved this movie? I so hope you win a million dollars tomorrow and you see your grandma.

Just that. Why does it always, for my whole life feel like minority republicans can seemingly pass every illegal law and repeal every law they want? Why are no democrats ever able to pass anything beneficial!? All I see is my rights being stolen every day. Born in 1440 to Antonio Trivulzio and Francesca Visconti, minor Guelph nobles in Milan, Gian Giacomo Trivulzio was raised alongside Galeazzo Maria Sforza, and would spend much of his early life in his service.
His military career started in 1465, when at the age of 25 he accompanied Sforza's army to France, where they would fight on the side of King Louis XI against the League of Public Weal. This taste of blood was evidently rather satisfactory for Trivulzio, as he would spend the remainder of his life in military service.
 

Sforza and Montefeltro Service

In the 1460s, he fought in the service of the Sforzas against the famous Bartolomeo Colleoni - one of the greatest military minds of the 15th Century. Soon after, he moves to the service of Federico da Montefeltro, and fights in the infamous Battle of Riccardina, where the forces of Colleoni, Ercole d'Este, and Alessandro Sforza, as well as some Florentine families, faced off against an alliance of the Medicis, King Ferdinand I of Naples, and Federico da Montefeltro.
It is in this period that he marries his first wife, Margherita Colleoni - a distant relative of the famous Condottiero.
 

Condottiero

In 1478, he entered the service of the Medicis against the expansionist Pope Sixtus IV, defending the city of Florence in the wake of the Pazzi Conspiracy, until the Ottoman capture of Otranto forced a peace settlement.
In 1480, he purchased the castle of Mesocco. By 1496 the surrounding countryside will have joined the Three Leagues in Switzerland, by his permission.
 

Rossi War and Ludovico Sforza

In 1482, he enters the service of Ludovico Sforza, against the Rossi family of Parma, in rebellion against the Sforzas of Milan. As tensions built up between Ludovico Sforza - then Regent of Milan - and the other nobles of Milan, it was Trivulzio - then only a lieutenant to Costanza Sforza - who was entrusted with taking Parma. Trivulzio proved himself incredibly capable in the art of siege and harrying, devastating the lands loyal to the Rossi, and capturing alpine fortresses with great vigor. Making excellent headway, it was only the intervention of the Republic of Venice that stopped Trivulzio. His soldiers were transferred to the command of the Duke of Urbino - an old employer, Federico da Montefeltro. Eventually, Trivulzio would work his way to being the primary commander of Ludovico's forces in Milan, winning the war for the Milanese, defeating the Venetian army at Martinengo, and becoming Governor of Parma for the Sforzas.
His first wife died in 1485. She had given him one surviving son - Gian Niccolò Trivulzio, and a score of daughters.
 

Neapolitan Service

In 1488, he moves to Naples, and enters the service of Alfonso d'Aragon, Duke of Calabria. He would marry Beatrice d'Avalos, and would be appointed Commander of the army of Naples. It is in this period that Charles VIII invades Italy, after being invited into Milan by Ludovico Sforza.
 

Charles' War for Naples First Italian War (1494-1498)

In 1494, Trivulzio negotiated the surrender of Naples to Charles VIII, who, impressed by the man, hires him into French service, with the written permission of Ferdinand I of Naples. In 1495 he fought in the Battle of Fornovo in the service of the King of France, marching back to France with the army. He is appointed Marshal of France for his actions in the battle.
 

Second Italian War (1498-1503)

In 1498 Trivulzio was placed in charge of a large army by the new King Louis XII. He marched on Milan, and chased Ludovico Sforza, now Duke of Milan, to Innsbruck, where he bid the assistance of Maximilian of Austria.
In October 1499, Trivulzio entered Milan, and was appointed Governor.
In 1501, Trivulzio was again placed in charge of a French army - this time, he was intended to be in command of small contingents of French troops to hold river crossings. Instead, he found himself in the midst of the French Army in their victory at Gorgonzola. The French - employing great numbers of Swiss mercenaries, defeated an Imperial army marching alongside Ludovico Sforza.
In 1502, Trivulzio commanded the French army at (the later named First Battle of) San Martino, buying valuable time for the French to bring reinforcements across the alpine passes after the Fall of Savoy and save Milan from the Imperial incursions. Later in the year he would lead the French at Marzaglia, being bested by Cesare Borgia, and withdrawing to Reggio.
In 1503, Trivulzio commanded the French army at Monterosi, squaring off against the Spanish Army, with the Fate of the Eternal City at stake. Routing the Spanish, he drove south to the banks of the Garigliano River, before being finally stopped, not by the Spanish, but by his own supply lines.
 

War of the Second Italic League Third Italian War (1506-1509)

In 1506 Trivulzio commanded the French Army putting Modena to siege, taking it in early 1507. Having kicked a hornet's nest, Trivulzio was forced to withdraw from Modena, though stood up a valiant defence against a Venetian-Ferrarese army at Lodi.
With Milan in rebellion (in part to Trivulzio's poor governance), he withdrew from Milan, and met with the main French army in Novara.
In 1508 Trivulzio spearheaded the counterattack into Milan, which was then in Austrian hands. Crossing the Ticino, he met the main army under Georg von Frundsberg at Borgarello. Bloodying the Austrians, he forces them to withdraw, and is joined by Rohan-Gie and Trémoille, to defeat the Austrians and Venetians at the absolutely gargantuan Battle of Gaggiano. With the Austrians and Venetians defeated, Trivulzio set about restoring order to Milan. It is said that he attempted to put a stop to the worst of the sacking, but it is rather suspicious that most of the sacking hit the worst of the Ghibelline sections of the Duchy...
In 1509 Trivulzio oversaw the capture of Montferrat, and its subsequent integration into the Duchy of Milan.
 

Borgia War (1511-1512)

In 1511, following Cesare's attempt at seizing Rome and subsequent flight to Romagna, Trivulzio leads a Milanese army to the Romagna, where they put down Cesare Borgia alongside a Papal coalition by 1512. It was in this war that his son, Gian Niccolò passed - camp fever had taken him during a siege.
 

Francis' War for Naples Fourth Italian War (1512-1515)

With the betrayal of the Spanish, and the commencement of Francis' War for Naples, Trivulzio commanded a rear force in the siege of Pescara. With the fall of that city in 1513, he lead a supporting force to Francis, proving to be a mentor and moderating voice to the rapacious young Duc de Valois.

Lombard War Fifth Italian War (1515-1516)

By 1515, the French army in Naples was exhausted, and saw fit to retire north, as the Emperor had made a pact with the Venetians, and invaded Milan. Trivulzio fought a rearguard action against the Spanish, allowing the Duc de Valois to pursue a stunning victory against the Austrians and Venetians at Lodi, and yet again routing Maximilian and the Venetians from the Duchy of Milan.
 
Trivulzio's final actions came in 1516, where he took over the command of the army from the gravely wounded Duc de Nemours, and proceeded to assist in the seizure of Venetian Lombardy, and the subsequent Second Battle of San Martino.

Retirement

Tired and contented, Trivulzio passes in his bed in the Castello Sforzecco on the 5th of December, 1518. He was 78 years of age. He is succeeded by his grandson, Gian Francesco Trivulzio.
It is said that Giangiacomo requested to be buried with a sword on his chest, instead of a cross. When asked why, he answered, "To scare the devils when they come for me."

Got a question about etiquette. Not really a dart player, but throw at bars about once a year when drinking with friends.
Wife and I were over at a friends house and the husband invites me to the garage for a game of darts. I say sure, why not. So I start warming up with the only darts I see and a couple of minutes later he joins me and says, “don’t get too comfortable with those darts, these are yours” and hands me three others. I could tell the “other” ones weren’t as expensive but I didn’t really care, they’d be fine for me. But it did strike me that he must be a somewhat serious player since he had special darts only he used.
So anyway, house rules….we play a modified game of cricket, except there’s no scoring once you close out a number. You just move to the next. He beats me the first game, and for the second game, he says we should play “around the horn” where you still can’t score after you close a number out, but you have to go in order, 20-15 and then bullseye. To our surprise, I win the second game in a close one.
So naturally, we agree to a rubber match. Around the horn again. I close 20 and 19 pretty quickly, and on my 4th turn, while he still only had a single 20 on the board….I approach the line and I missed my first dart, triple 18 on my second dart, and double 17 with my third.
Huge lead right!? For a basic novice too!
But a moment after my 3rd dart comes to rest on Dbl 17, the second dart on T18 falls off. He says it’s too bad, neither the Dbl 17 or Triple 18 count.
I look at him like he must be joking. What are the actual “rules” in this situation (are there any for “Around the Horn”) and what’s the general etiquette in a situation like this in a game amongst friends?
He took my scoring off the board and then he ended up winning the game but it pretty much soured the night by him being so “by the book” on the rules, especially when he’s throwing badass darts and I’ve got crap ones.
How would you darties assess this situation?
