2023.05.28 04:51 Junior_Button5882 11 Terrifying-But-True Horror Stories Reported in the News - From fatal exorcisms to unexplained deaths and devil worship—these are some real-life nightmares.

A terrifying movie or book or show gets your blood pumping in the moment of consumption, sure—we covered our eyes in Squid Game with the rest of the world. But for the most part, you rest easy afterward knowing that what you've witnessed is fiction, deliberately spun up to creep you out. When the real world gets eerier than anything Stephen King could dream up, that's when you have every right to get a little scared of the dark.
Once in a while, a story of a dreadful disappearance, demonic possession, or devil worship will land in the local paper instead of a pulpy old paperback. We've rounded up the most unnerving real-life tales below. In honor of spooky season, here are eleven we can't stop thinking about.

The Axe Murder House

The Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, Iowa is a well-known tourist attraction for ghost hunters and horror lovers alike. The site of a gruesome unsolved 1912 murder, in which six children and two adults had their skulls completely crushed by the axe of an unknown perpetrator, was purchased in 1994, restored to its 1912 condition, and converted into a tourist destination. It costs $428 a night to stay at the old haunted home, where visitors always report strange paranormal experiences, such as visions of a man with an axe roaming the halls or the faint screams of children.
But in November of 2014, the haunting took a darker turn. Robert Steven Laursen Jr., 37, of Rhinelander, Wisconsin was on a regular recreational paranormal visit with friends when true horror struck. Per VICE:
His companions found him stabbed in the chest—an apparently self-inflicted wound—called 9-1-1, and Laursen was brought to a nearby hospital before being helicoptered to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said Laursen suffered the self-inflicted injury at about 12:45 a.m., which is around the same time the 1912 axe murders in the house began.
Laursen recovered from his injuries, but has never spoken publicly about what occurred that day. For Martha Linn, the owner of the home, the incident was very upsetting. "It's publicity, but it's not exactly the kind of publicity you desire to have. I don't want people thinking that when they come to the Villisca Axe Murder House something's going to happen that's going to make them do something like that.” The house remains open for tourist visits and overnight stays today.

The Haunted Doll

When you think of haunted dolls, it’s likely the creepy old Victorian-looking porcelain kind that springs to mind. None of which you probably have laying around. Still, don’t get too comfortable around any kids toys too soon, though: a Disney’s Frozen Elsa doll that was gifted for Christmas 2013 in the Houston area made headlines earlier this year when it seemingly became haunted.
Per KPRC2 Houston News:
The doll recited phrases from the movie Frozen and sang “Let It Go” when a button on its necklace was pressed.
“For two years it did that in English,” mother Emily Madonia said. “In 2015, it started doing it alternating between Spanish and English. There wasn’t a button that changed these, it was just random."
The family has owned the doll for more than six years and never changed its batteries. The mother says the doll would randomly begin to speak and sing even with its switch turned off.
The family decided to throw the creepy doll out in December of 2019. Weeks later, they found it inside a bench in their living room. “The kids insisted they didn’t put it there, and I believed them because they wouldn’t have dug through the garbage outside,” Madonia told KPRC2 Houston News.

At that point, Elsa ceased to sing the English rendition of “Let It Go” altogether, speaking only Spanish when pressed. The family then double-bagged the bizarre doll and placed it at the bottom of their garbage which was taken out on garbage day. They went on a trip shortly after, but when they returned, Elsa too had come back, and was waiting in the backyard of their home.
This time, the family mailed Elsa to a family friend in Minnesota, who taped the haunted doll to the front bumper of his truck. It doesn’t seem to have made its way back to Houston yet, as per Madonia’s latest February Facebook update on the creepy doll.

A Deadly Exorcism

In August 2016 in North London, 26-year-old Kennedy Ife began acting strange and aggressive following a pain in his throat. He reportedly bit his father, threatened to cut off his own penis, and complained of a python or snake inside of him before his family restrained him to a bed with cable ties and excessive force.
As the BBC reported:
“The family then set about attempting to ‘cure’ Kennedy through restraint and prayer over the next three days, the court was told.”
His brother, Colin Ife, told police:
“It’s clear that thing was in him, what we believed was a demon because it was not natural. It was clearly trying to kill him,” he said.
“We had to restrain him for himself. It was clear if we didn’t restrain him, he could have tried to harm people in our family.”
Kennedy Ife had been bound to his bed for three days without medical attention when his brother called emergency services, explaining that Kennedy Ife was complaining of dehydration. He appeared to have developed breathing issues, and was pronounced dead at 10:17 a.m.
As The Independent reported:
While police were at the house Colin Ife allegedly carried out an “attempted resurrection” by chanting and praying for Mr. Ife.
All seven of Kennedy Ife’s family members were accused of manslaughter, false imprisonment, and causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult. A post-mortem examination revealed over 60 wounds including a possible bite on Kennedy Ife’s body, and his father, Kenneth Ife, along with four of his brothers, sustained injuries as well.

The BBC reported:
Kenneth Ife told jurors he ordered his sons to take shifts and use "overwhelming force" but denied that an "association with cults, occults and secret societies" played any part in the death.
After a four day jury deliberation, all seven family members were cleared of charges on March 14, 2019.

Dead Animals in the Walls

When the Bretzuis family decided to insulate their home in Auburn, Pennsylvania in 2015, they discovered that it had already been—with scores of dead animal carcasses.
As Fox reported:
The dead animals were wrapped in newspapers from the 1930s and 40s and were among half-used spices, and other items.
After removing the items they sent hundreds of artifacts and carcasses to an expert in Kutztown.
The expert attributed the rotting animals in their walls to Pow-wow or Dutch magic, a ritual originating in the culture of the Pennsylvania Dutch to treat ailments and gain physical and spiritual protection. The Pennsylvania Dutch were a group of German-speaking settlers to Pennsylvania in the 1600 and 1700’s, and are often of Lutheran, Mennonite, or Amish faiths.
The Washington Post notes on the magic:
Many of the spells deal with the care of livestock, finding water, or the treatment of minor ailments, reflecting the conditions and concerns of early American settlers.
But powwow also has within it a tradition of darker spells, and even of such things as conjuring demons.
One notable ritual in their tradition is this hex to create loyalty in a dog:
To attach a dog to a person, provided nothing else was used before to effect it: Try to draw some of your blood, and let the dog eat it along with his food, and he will stay with you.
The mold found on the rotting carcasses in the Bretzuis home has caused illness among the family members, and they say that the odor hasn’t gone away.

Florida Devil Worshipping

Friends noticed that Danielle Harkins, a 35-year-old schoolteacher near St. Petersburg, Florida, started acting strangely in June of 2012, developing an interest in demonic rituals.
Soon after, she was arrested for abuse of seven of her former students, as the Tampa Bay Times reported:
Danielle Harkins told the kids they needed to rid their bodies of demons as the group gathered before dusk Saturday around a small fire near the St. Petersburg Pier. They should cut their skin to let the evil spirits out, police said she told the children. Then, they needed to burn the wounds to ensure that those spirits would not return.
When Harkins held a lighter to one teen's hand, wind blew the flame out, police said. That prompted her to douse his hand in perfume before setting it on fire. The boy suffered second-degree burns, police said.
Another teen was cut on the neck with a broken bottle, police said. Harkins used a flame to heat a small key, which she then used to cauterize the wound.
The police were notified because a friend of one of the students who participated in the ritual raised alarms. However none of the students themselves told their parents about the event or would comment following the arrest of Harkins for aggravated battery and child abuse.
NBC reported:
Investigators said they've spoken to Harkins, but she didn't spell out what type of religion would require such drastic measures.
"She hasn't informed us exactly what she was trying to accomplish with this," Puetz [of the St. Petersburg Police Department] said.

The Death of Elisa Lam

Elisa Lam was last seen on January 31, 2013 in the lobby of the Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. She was vacationing through the West Coast, documenting the trip on her blog, and checking in with her parents every day. On January 31 those calls stopped. Lam had vanished. Soon the police were involved and her parents arrived to help with the search.
They had nothing. That February, LAPD released elevator surveillance footage of Lam before her disappearance. The footage shows Lam behaving strangely in the elevator, appearing to talk with invisible people, peering around the corner of the door, crouching in the corner, and opening and closing the door. But what exactly is going on in this video raises more questions than answers. Theories range from psychotic episodes, to demonic possession, to unknown assailants just out of the camera's view:

Around that time, hotel guests started reported weird things happening with the Cecil Hotel water supply. As CNN reports:

"The shower was awful," said Sabina Baugh, who spent eight days there during the investigation. "When you turned the tap on, the water was coming black first for two seconds and then it was going back to normal."The tap water "tasted horrible," Baugh said. "It had a very funny, sweety, disgusting taste. It's a very strange taste. I can barely describe it."But for a week, they never complained. "We never thought anything of it," she said. "We thought it was just the way it was here."
On the morning of February 19, a hotel employee climbed to the roof and used a ladder to investigate the hotel's water storage tanks. That's where authorities found the decomposing, naked body of Lam, whose personal items were found nearby. After an autopsy, her death was labeled accidental. NBC Los Angeles reported at the time about the strange circumstances in the hotel's past:
The tank has a metal latch that can be opened, but authorities said access to the roof is secured with an alarm and lock.The single-room-occupancy hotel has an unusual history. "Night Stalker" Richard Ramirez, who was found guilty of 14 slayings in the 1980s, lived on the 14th floor for several months in 1985. And international serial killer Jack Unterweger is suspected of murdering three prostitutes during the time he lived there in 1991. He killed himself in jail in 1994.In 1962, a female occupant jumped out of one the hotel's windows, killing herself and a pedestrian on whom she landed.
In February 2021, a Netflix doc called Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel explored Elisa's tragic case and the history of the "cursed" Cecil Hotel.

An Exorcism in Indianapolis

Last year, the Indianapolis Star published a lengthy report on a family terrorized by three children allegedly possessed by demons. The account of Latoya Ammons and her family tells disturbing stories of children climbing up the walls, getting thrown across rooms, and children threatening doctors in deep unnatural voices. It would seem like something straight out of a movie–a work of fantasy, except all of these accounts were more or less corroborated with "nearly 800 pages of official records obtained by the Indianapolis Star and recounted in more than a dozen interviews with police, DCS personnel, psychologists, family members and a Catholic priest."
One of the more chilling sections of the report includes a segment about the possessed 9-year-old:
According to Washington's original DCS report—an account corroborated by Walker, the nurse—the 9-year-old had a "weird grin" and walked backward up a wall to the ceiling. He then flipped over Campbell, landing on his feet. He never let go of his grandmother's hand.
Another segment of the piece reads:
The 12-year-old would later tell mental health professionals that she sometimes felt as if she were being choked and held down so she couldn't speak or move. She said she heard a voice say she'd never see her family again and wouldn't live another 20 minutes.

Utah Murder-Suicide

In September of 2014, a Utah teen returned to his home to find his parents and three siblings dead. "In a notebook, a 'to-do list' had been scribbled on the pages ... The list looked as if the parents were readying to go on vacation—items such as 'feed the pets' and 'find someone to watch after the house' were written," The Salt Lake Tribune reported. It appeared to be murder-suicide, but there was no suicide note, no prior indication that they would do this, no explanation. Police could not figure out why two parents would kill themselves and three of their four children.
For a year, no one knew exactly what happened to the family, or what would drive the parents to do something so unthinkable. In January, police released more chilling details in the case. According to accounts from family members and an investigation by police, the parents were driven by a belief that the apocalypse was coming and an obsession with a convicted killer. As the Washington Post reported:
Friends and family told police that the parents were worried about the "evil in the world" and wanted to escape a "pending apocalypse." But most assumed they just wanted to move somewhere "off the grid." Investigators also found letters written by Kristi Strack to one of the state's most infamous convicted killers, Dan Lafferty, who was convicted in the 1984 fatal stabbing of his sister-in-law and her 1-year-old daughter. According to trial testimony, he killed the victims at the order of his brother, Ron Lafferty, who claimed to have had a revelation from God. The story became a book called "Under the Banner of Heaven."Police said Kristi Strack became friends with Dan Lafferty, and she and her husband even visited him in prison.

The Phone Stalker

In 2007, ABC news documented a series of cell phone calls to families with terrifyingly specific death threats. The unidentified callers knew exactly what families were doing and what they were wearing.
The families say the calls come in at all hours of the night, threatening to kill their children, their pets and grandparents. Voice mails arrive, playing recordings of their private conversations, including one with a local police detective.The caller knows, the families said, what they're wearing and what they're doing. And after months of investigating, police seem powerless to stop them.
This went on with the Kuykenall family for months, who reported a caller with a scratchy voice threatening to slit their throats.
When the Fircrest, Wash., police tried to find the culprit, the calls were traced back to the Kuykendalls' own phones -- even when they were turned off.It got worse. The Kuykendalls and two other Fircrest families told ABC News that they believe the callers are using their cell phones to spy on them. They say the hackers know their every move: where they are, what they're doing and what they're wearing. The callers have recorded private conversations, the families and police said, including a meeting with a local detective.

"The Watcher"

After moving into their $1.3 million dream home, a New Jersey family started receiving creepy death threats from someone who identified themselves as "The Watcher." As CBS News reported earlier this year:
Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
Since moving in, the owners said they have received numerous letters from the mysterious person. "The Watcher" claimed the home "has been the subject of my family for decades," and "I have been put in charge of watching and waiting for its second coming," Castro reported.The new owners have several children, and other letters asked, "Have they found out what's in the walls yet?" and "I am pleased to know your names now, and the name of the young blood you have brought to me."
The family was forced to flee from their home and later filed a lawsuit against the previous owners.

Issei the Cannibal

In 1974, 24-year-old Wako University student Issei Sagawa allegedly followed a German woman to her home in Tokyo, Japan, broke into her apartment while she was sleeping, and attempted to cut a piece of flesh off her body to consume. When she awoke, she reportedly fought him and he was later captured by the police. According to a 2012 Vice documentary that covered Issei's bizarre story, he was mistakenly charged with attempted rape and his wealthy father paid the victim a settlement outside of court to have the charges dropped.
Seven years later, in 1981, he allegedly committed a murder in France—shooting and eating a fellow University student, Renée Hartevelt. Issei creepily documented the entire experience with photographs and he was captured by authorities once again while attempting to dump the rest of her body in the Bois de Boulogne lake. He was deported back to Japan and committed to a mental institution. For reason unknown, his psychologists in Japan declared that he was sane. Furthermore, a legal technicality involving the French government refusing to turn over the documents from his case meant that his murder charges were dropped completely. He checked himself out of the mental hospital and has reportedly been walking the streets as a free man ever since. Issei has even become a controversial celebrity, writing over 20 books. According to Japan Today, he most recently fantasized about an unnamed TV actress, saying:
"I'll catch a glimpse of her thigh and think, 'That sure looks tasty.' But I don't feel like I actually want to eat it. As I accomplished the act of cannibalism once, there's no meaning to maintaining the desire for it anymore. In my book, I wrote that it [human flesh] was tasty, but that was not really true; I'd much rather eat Matsuzaka (Kobe) beef. But because I'd desired to consume human flesh for so long, I'd managed to convince myself that it would necessarily be delicious."
Issei Sagawa was also referenced in the Rolling Stones song "Too Much Blood," with the lyrics reading: "And when he ate her he took her bones/To the Bois de Boulogne." He is currently 73 years old and continues to live in Kawaski City, Japan. To this day, no one knows why France did not allow Japan to give him a trial.

The most recent drill results include eight holes that were drilled to follow up on high-grade drill results reported in news releases dated July 21, 2022 and November 1, 2022. Hole D-96-10-22 returned two broad zones of mineralisation over 64 metres at 391 g/t Ag, 10.8% Pb and 8.5% Zn, including 23.25 metres at 914 g/t Ag, 25.19% Pb and 16.73% Zn, and a separate lower skarn zone over 135 metres at 37 g/t Ag, 1.13% Pb and 6.42% Zn.
"These new drill hole results both extend the 902 zone and confirm that there are multiple zones of higher grade within the limestone and skarn, which align with surrounding porphyry intrusives and epithermal veins," said Christopher Emerson, Pan American's Vice President Exploration and Geology. "We have now drilled over 20 holes into this area, which remains open to the west and northwest. The 2023 infill and exploration program of 28,000 metres from surface and underground drilling stations is currently underway.”
Drill highlights include:
  • D-96-10-22: 64.30 m at 391 g/t Ag, 0.13% Cu, 10.83% Pb and 8.50% Zn, including 23.25 m at 914 g/t Ag, 0.19% Cu, 25.19% Pb and 16.73% Zn and 135.70 m at 37 g/t Ag, 0.14% Cu, 1.13% Pb and 6.42% Zn
  • D-96-12-23: 109.55 m at 233 g/t Ag, 0.10% Cu, 6.62% Pb and 7.32% Zn, including 44.20 m at 487 g/t Ag, 0.15% Cu, 15.46% Pb and 10.12% Zn
  • D-96-09-22: 72.60 m at 98 g/t Ag, 0.07% Cu, 0.85% Pb and 4.11% Zn and 26.95 m at 162 g/t Ag, 0.05% Cu, 3.51% Pb and 3.52% Zn and 21.20 m at 123 g/t Ag, 0.11% Cu, 3.53% Pb and 8.63% Zn
  • D-96-11-22: 17.05 m at 165 g/t Ag, 0.12% Cu, 4.37% Pb and 9.33% Zn
  • U-138-22: 71.35 m at 193 g/t Ag, 0.15% Cu, 10.82% Pb and 9.27% Zn, including 57.95 m at 231 g/t Ag, 0.17% Cu, 13.11% Pb and 11.01% Zn
  • U-112-22: 53.15 m at
141 g/t Ag, 0.06% Cu, 5.84% Pb and 5.46% Zn, including 15.15 m at 243 g/t Ag, 0.08% Cu, 11.31% Pb and 8.28% Zn
  • D-15-02-22: 16.85 m at
121 g/t Ag, 0.28% Cu, 4.60% Pb and 9.58% Zn
  • D-93-06-23: 21.45 m at 304 g/t Ag, 0.17% Cu, 4.75% Pb and 2.55% Zn and 143.3 m at 27 g/t Ag, 0.10% Cu, 2.93% Pb and 4.68% Zn and 74.20 m at 49 g/t Ag, 0.25% Cu, 1.50% Pb and 4.36% Zn
Eight of the 15 drill holes reported in this news release are recent infill and extension holes that add definition to the high-grade areas, which are now drilled at roughly 30 metre spacing. Five infill drill holes: U-112-22, U-138-22, D-96-09-22, D-96-10-22 and D-93-06-23, confirm internal continuity of grade, similar to previously reported drill holes. The high-grade footprint has been extended approximately 50 metres to the northwest from the limit of prior drilling with recent holes D-96-11-22 and D-96-12-23 returning significant silver and base metal grades. This area remains open to the northwest where the ongoing drill program will continue to test further extension of the zone over the next few months from surface and underground drilling stations.
Exploration drilling in the 903 East mineralised zone was reduced in the fourth quarter of 2022 with a new focus on the high-grade area to the west. Recent results from S-101-22, the most southeast drill hole in the 903 zone, intercepts skarn mineralisation approximately 250 metres south of previous drilling. Drill hole D-09-04-22 intercepted mineralisation to the southeast of the central zone.

MAY 10, 2023 PAAS.TO PAN AMERICAN SILVER REPORTS FIRST QUARTER 2023 RESULTS
https://preview.redd.it/yo8hsm1aah2b1.png?width=3500&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed1f761c1058266115f8a4b91c0fb30170d48ddb
Pan American Silver Corp. (NYSE: PAAS) (TSX: PAAS) ("Pan American" or the "Company") today reported unaudited results for the quarter ended March 31, 2023 ("Q1 2023").
"Pan American reported solid results for the first quarter of 2023, with adjusted earnings of $0.10 per share," said Michael Steinmann, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Going forward, Pan American will be a significantly larger, more diversified company following our acquisition of Yamana. Our guidance for 2023 demonstrates the positive impact of the four new mines on production and costs, and we are excited by the growth opportunities the combined portfolio presents."
On March 31, 2023, Pan American completed its previously announced acquisition of all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Yamana Gold Inc. ("Yamana"), following the sale by Yamana of its Canadian assets to Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, by way of a plan of arrangement under the Canada Business Corporations Act (the "Yamana transaction"). The Yamana transaction added four producing mines to Pan American's portfolio: the Jacobina mining complex in Brazil, the El Peñon and Minera Florida mines in Chile, and the Cerro Moro mine in Argentina ("Acquired Operations"), plus several exploration and development projects in Chile, Brazil and Argentina. Operating and financial results reported in this news release, except for the financial position as at March 31, 2023, reflect only Pan American's original mines, specifically: La Colorada, Huaron, San Vicente, Manantial Espejo, Timmins, Shahuindo, La Arena and Dolores (the "Original Assets").
The following highlights for Q1 2023 include certain measures that are not generally accepted accounting principle ("non-GAAP") financial measures. Please refer to the section titled “Alternative Performance (Non-GAAP) Measures” at the end of this news release for further information on these measures.
Consolidated Q1 2023 Highlights:
  • Silver production of 3.9 million ounces and gold production of 122.7 thousand ounces. As previously disclosed, Manantial Espejo has been placed on care and maintenance following the completion of mining at the end of 2022; some residual production was recorded for Q1 2023.
  • Revenue was $390.3 million, inclusive of a negative $3.8 million price adjustment on open concentrate shipments.
  • Net earnings of $16.5 million ($0.08 basic earnings per share), including $18.9 million in transaction and integration costs related to the Yamana transaction and $12.7 million in severance provisions. Adjusted earnings were $21.2 million ($0.10 basic adjusted earnings per share).
  • Cash flow from operations of $51.3 million, net of $30.7 million in tax payments.
  • Silver Segment Cash Costs and All-in Sustaining Costs ("AISC") per silver ounce of $12.19 and $14.13, respectively. Excluding Net Realizable Value ("NRV") inventory adjustments, Silver Segment AISC was $14.11 per ounce.
  • Gold Segment Cash Costs and AISC per gold ounce of $1,120 and $1,196, respectively. Excluding NRV inventory adjustments, Gold Segment AISC was $1,361 per ounce.
  • Pan American's financial position as at March 31, 2023, incorporates the assets and liabilities Pan American assumed through the Yamana transaction. As at March 31, 2023, Pan American had working capital of $826.6 million, inclusive of cash and short-term investment balances of $513.1 million ($204.7 million related to the Minera Agua Rica Alumbrera ("MARA") project in Argentina), as well as $425 million available under its $750 million revolving sustainability-linked credit facility ("SL-Credit Facility"). Total debt of $1,187.0 million relates to the SL-Credit Facility, construction loans and leases, and two senior notes Pan American assumed through the Yamana transaction: $500 million with a coupon of 2.63% maturing in 2031 and $283 million with a coupon of 4.625% maturing in 2027. Moody's Investors Service and S&P Global have assigned Pan American with an investment grade credit rating.
  • A cash dividend of $0.10 per common share with respect to Q1 2023 was previously declared on March 24, 2023, payable on or about May 12, 2023, to holders of record of Pan American’s common shares as of the close of markets on April 14, 2023. The dividends are eligible dividends for Canadian income tax purposes. Pan American selected that record and payment date to harmonize its dividend with respect to Q1 2023 with Yamana’s normal course dividend timing for payment of a first quarter dividend. Subsequent dividends to be declared by Pan American are expected to follow Pan American's previous schedule of dividend payments.
  • Two ILO 169 consultation meetings for the Escobal mine were held in Q1 2023, as well as several working meetings between Guatemala's Ministry of Energy and Mines and Xinka Indigenous community representatives. At this time, no date has been set for a potential restart of operations at Escobal.

2023 GUIDANCE
The following provides Management's 2023 guidance, as at May 10, 2023. Relative to the guidance provided on April 27, 2023, the only revision is an increase in estimated project capital expenditures to a range of $95 million to $105 million from the previous range of $75 million to $85 million. The revised range reflects an updated estimate to complete the preliminary economic assessment studies and to advance the exploration drilling for the La Colorada Skarn project.
2023 General and Administrative, Care and Maintenance, and Exploration Expense Forecast
2023 General and Administrative expenses are estimated to total between $75 to $80 million, and reflects increased personnel following the Yamana transaction, increased regulatory and insurance costs, and a normalized year of stock based compensation, which was lower than assumed in 2022 due to share price performance.
2023 Care and Maintenance costs are estimated to total $98 to $109 million, which reflects expenditures for Escobal, the MARA project, Manantial Espejo and Morococha.
2023 Exploration Expense is estimated to total $14 to $16 million for regional greenfield expenditures. The expenditures relating to near-mine exploration are included in the sustaining and project capital amounts provided in the Capital Expenditures Forecast table below.
The production and cost guidance provided in the following tables reflect the contribution from the Acquired Operations for the nine-month period from March 31, 2023 to December 31, 2023, and the full 12-month period of 2023 for Pan American's Original Assets. Please see our MD&A for the period ending March 31, 2023, for a more detailed breakdown of the guidance, including by individual mine and on a quarterly basis for 2023. These estimates are forward-looking statements and information that are subject to the cautionary note associated with forward-looking statements and information at the end of this news release.

Alternative Performance (Non-GAAP) Measures
In this news release, we refer to measures that are non-GAAP financial measures. These measures are widely used in the mining industry as a benchmark for performance, but do not have a standardized meaning as prescribed by IFRS as an indicator of performance, and may differ from methods used by other companies with similar descriptions. These non-GAAP financial measures include:
  • Cash Costs. Pan American's method of calculating cash costs may differ from the methods used by other entities and, accordingly, Pan American's Cash Costs may not be comparable to similarly titled measures used by other entities. Investors are cautioned that Cash Costs should not be construed as an alternative to production costs, depreciation and amortization, and royalties determined in accordance with IFRS as an indicator of performance.
  • Adjusted earnings and basic adjusted earnings per share. Pan American believes that these measures better reflect normalized earnings as they eliminate items that in management's judgment are subject to volatility as a result of factors, which are unrelated to operations in the period, and/or relate to items that will settle in future periods.
  • All-in Sustaining Costs per silver or gold ounce sold, net of by-product credits ("AISC"). Pan American has adopted AISC as a measure of its consolidated operating performance and its ability to generate cash from all operations collectively, and Pan American believes it is a more comprehensive measure of the cost of operating our consolidated business than traditional cash costs per payable ounce, as it includes the cost of replacing ounces through exploration, the cost of ongoing capital investments (sustaining capital), general and administrative expenses, as well as other items that affect Pan American's consolidated earnings and cash flow.
  • Total debt is calculated as the total current and non-current portions of: long-term debt, finance lease liabilities and loans payable. Total debt does not have any standardized meaning prescribed by GAAP and is therefore unlikely to be comparable to similar measures presented by other companies. Pan American and certain investors use this information to evaluate the financial debt leverage of Pan American.
  • Working capital is calculated as current assets less current liabilities. Working capital does not have any standardized meaning prescribed by GAAP and is therefore unlikely to be comparable to similar measures presented by other companies. Pan American and certain investors use this information to evaluate whether Pan American is able to meet its current obligations using its current assets.
  • Total available liquidity is calculated as the sum of Cash and cash equivalents, Short-term Investments, and the amount available on the Credit Facility. Total available liquidity does not have any standardized meaning prescribed by GAAP and is therefore unlikely to be comparable to similar measures presented by other companies. Pan American and certain investors use this information to evaluate the liquid assets available to Pan American.
Readers should refer to the "Alternative Performance (non-GAAP) Measures" section of Pan American’s Management's Discussion and Analysis for the period ended December 31, 2022, for a more detailed discussion of these and other non-GAAP measures and their calculation.

2023.05.28 03:41 palocci The Brazilian "Secular Stagnation" and what Lula can do about it

The Brazilian
Introduction
Here's another effortpost on Brazil! This time I'll be talking about why the Brazilian economy stagnated, and what we can expect from Lula in terms of economic policy (I've talked about this in the past but now I'll go into more detail).
Between 1920 and 1980, Brazil was a clear economic success story. For 60 years, our GDP grew at an average of 4% a year. This 'golden age' ended in a hyperinflation crisis, which made the 1980s become known as a 'lost decade', and since its resolution in 1994 with the Plano Real, our economy has experienced minimal growth: from 1980 to 2020, the average GDP growth rate was only 0.7%.
Evolution of the Brazilian per capita product, at 2010 prices, from 1900 to 2021. The scale of the graph is logarithmic in base 2.
In this post, I'll try to explain the reasons for Brazil's low growth in the last four decades and what Lula's plans are to address them.
The debate
Before delving into the actual causes of the "semi-stagnation", I would like to explain the economic debate in Brazil. This debate revolves around two major groups of economists: the "developmentalists" and the "liberals." The term "developmentalism" may be unfamiliar to many people here, but it is very present in Latin America. A decent explanation for it could be "dirigisme with Latam characteristics."
In short, liberalism in this context is associated with economic orthodoxy and a pro-market orientation in economic policy, while developmentalism leans towards economic heterodoxy and advocates for direct state interference in the economy. This debate is, in theory, separate from the traditional right versus left political divide, as we have had governments from both ends of the political spectrum adopting policies aligned with either school of thought. For instance, Lula I (2003-2007) represented a left-wing liberal government, while Geisel (1974-1979) presided over a right-wing developmentalist government. However, in practice, liberalism is associated with the right-wing while developmentalism is associated with the left-wing.
One area of major divergence between those two groups is full employment. Liberals argue that the Brazilian economy generally operates at full employment, which means that there are well-defined supply-side limits and restrictions in the economy, whereas developmentalists believe it tends to operate below that level. This implies that the economy's natural state is one of perpetual aggregate demand deficiency, and thus the government could just increase spending to mobilize idle production factors and stimulate economic growth.
Furthermore, liberals typically view direct state intervention in the economy with distrust, opposing increased public investments in infrastructure and most forms of industrial policy. Their preference generally leans towards reducing government spending and relying on a 'crowding in' effect, together with supply-side reforms. Conversely, developmentalists perceive state intervention as a necessity to stimulate the economy, favoring a robust industrial policy and increased public investments.
Those are significant oversimplifications, and many economists do not align themselves with either group. In any case, I would say this categorization reasonably represents the current debate.
It's a tradition in Brazil to divide ministries between liberals and developmentalists to ensure a balance between the two. The current Finance Minister, Fernando Haddad, believes in a middle ground approach, with some of his secretaries (e.g., Guilherme Mello) leaning more towards developmentalism, while others (e.g., Bernard Appy) lean more towards liberalism. Planning Minister Simone Tebet and Industry and Commerce Minister Geraldo Alckmin are firmly in the liberal camp. However, due to the nature of his ministry, Geraldo Alckmin will probably concede more to developmentalist policies (as he's already doing). Aloizio Mercadante, the President of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), is considered the leader of the developmentalist branch of the government, along with Workers' Party President Gleisi Hoffmann (some people jokingly refer to her as the main opposition to Fernando Haddad and the 'Twitter Shadow Finance Minister' due to some of her tweets).
Without further ado, let's get to the causes of Brazil's stagnation.
Guido Mantega (Finance Minister between 2006 and 2014) and Antônio Palocci (Finance Minister between 2003 and 2006). Mantega is associated to developmentalism and Palocci to liberalism.
Education
First of all, the significant growth of the 20th century left a terrible educational legacy. Brazil only began to have a somewhat consistent educational policy in the 1990s and 2000s, when basic education was universalized. To put it into perspective, in 1990, the average number of years of schooling in Brazil was 3.8 years. Even Sub-Saharan African countries like Congo, Zimbabwe, and Zambia had higher average schooling levels than ours. Approximately a quarter of the population were illiterate.
The key change came with the 1988 Constitution, which decided that Brazil would try to become an European-style social democracy. Since then, considerable progress has been made, but clearly not enough. The main educational bottleneck lies in Elementary School II, which typically spans the ages of 12 to 15. It is during this stage in Brazil that the discrepancy between age and the appropriate grade level drastically increases, leading to higher rates of grade repetition and students falling behind in their education.
This problem is probably related to the transition from a single teacher trained in pedagogy in Elementary I to several specialists teaching only one subject. This transition also occurs at the onset of adolescence, which is naturally a turbulent phase already, with the introduction of drugs, alcohol and various forms of prejudice being normal. The result ends up being a distancing of the student from school.
Two Brazilian states, which have been governed by center-left parties for many years, serve as examples in Brazilian educational policy: Pernambuco and Ceará.
A highlight in Ceará is the Programa de Afabetização na Idade Certa (Program of Alphabetization in the Right Age), which aims to ensure that all students in the state's public school systems achieve literacy by the age of 7. The plan was based on the following pillars: (1) the elaboration of a specialized literacy curriculum that was adopted in all the municipalities, with structured materials for teachers and students containing a daily routine of classroom activities and homework assignments; (2) pedagogical practices to encourage reading in the classroom; (3) financial incentives for the municipalities that achieve better results in education; and (4) evaluation and monitoring of the program, with a census and diagnostic test that is applied at the beginning of every semester.
Pernambuco has implemented a Full-Time High School system that stands out. The system is based on the following pillars: (1) the introduction of a subject called "life project," which encourages students to create plans with goals and objectives for their lives; (2) guided study, providing a space for autonomy in learning and fostering self-directed learning skills; (3) hands-on, practical classes that combine theory and practice; (4) youth clubs, where collective interests of young people are pursued; (5) tutoring, where teachers (tutors) interact with students to support their development; and (6) full-time education, of course.
Both plans have been tremendous successes and could be implemented nationwide. The Member of Parliament Tabata Amaral has proposed the program "basic education like Ceará's, high school like Pernambuco's." We might see that put in practice. Izolda Cela, the mind behind Ceará's basic education plan, is the Executive-Secretary of the Ministry of Education, and the current Minister of Education is Camilo Santana, the governor of Ceará between 2014 and 2022.

Public Investments
Furthermore, there is a general consensus that the significant decrease in public investment since 1980 explains part of the problem. During the Golden Age of Brazilian growth, public investment mounted to about 6% of GDP, whereas it currently stands at approximately 4% since the lost decade. Liberal economists tend to attribute this to the expansion of the welfare state, that came with a substantial increase in the tax burden (from 25% of GDP in the 1970s to 35% in 2000). On the other hand, developmentalist economists point to the decline in public savings due to the privatization of state-owned enterprises in the 1990s.
In his second government, Lula created the Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento (PAC) (Growth Acceleration Program), whose objective was precisely to expand public investments. Unfortunately, the plan ended up with highly controversial results, primarily due to the low administrative capacity of the Brazilian State and corruption (some like to call the plan the Corruption Acceleration Program!).
But now the Workers' Party has gained new experience. Many of its state governments became famous for extensive investment programs in partnership with the private sector, delivering positive results. Chief of Staff Rui Costa, in particular, had a successful experience with public-private investments during his tenure as the governor of Bahia. He is now expected to lead the "New PAC", which will probably be announced at some point between today and July. (The project still has no name and is provisionally being called "New PAC").
Here's what Rui Costa has said about the project: "We will have, in an unprecedented way, investments with Public Private Partnerships (PPIs) at the federal level. Many states, including Bahia, have made PPI projects. [...] We are negotiating with the Ministry of Finance the conditions for guarantees so that we can leverage these projects."
Lula wants to meet with the 27 state governors to determine which state projects the Union should prioritize for its investments. In recent weeks, Costa has held individual meetings with the state governments to define which projects will be included in the new PAC. In all, eight governors have already been heard.
In a speech on the May 1st holiday, Lula said the following about the project: "We are inviting foreign businessmen to invest in Brazil and we are showing them the great projects that we are going to present in the third PAC. It will be the largest infrastructure project in this country."
Former Governor of Bahia (2014 - 2022) and current Chief of Staff Rui Costa.
Deindustrialization
Another problem is the early deindustrialization that is taking place in Brazil: we are losing our industry before becoming rich. In the beginning of the lost decade, the industry accounted for one-quarter of the Brazilian GDP, whereas today it represents around one-tenth. The reason for this process is complex, and once again, economists disagree. Liberals point to the new form of production organization that emerged with globalization, where the manufacturing of goods was fragmented into different stages, each executed in different countries. According to this line of thinking, Brazil failed to adapt to the new industrial configuration and remained stuck in an unrealistic autarkic dream. On the other hand, developmentalist economists usually argue that after the end of hyperinflation, Brazil fell into a trap of having an overvalued currency and high interest rates, demolishing the industry's competitiveness. (I am more inclined towards the first thesis, although it is a fact that the Brazilian exchange rate was detrimental to the industry after the Real Plan).
Now I want to talk a little bit about the Brazilian industrial bourgeoisie and its problems. In the 1960s, the then sociologist and future president Fernando Henrique Cardoso published his thesis on the Brazilian industrial entrepreneurs. Based on his research, he concluded that Brazilian industrialists did not have any national project, and (1) "only cared about their personal interests when speaking on behalf of the class" and (2) "[their] political action consists of personal participation in the patrimonialist game." Brazil has a serious problem related to what we call 'patrimonialism,' which refers to the capture of resources from the Brazilian state to benefit private interests.
Unfortunately, industrial policy in Brazil often results in tax exemptions, subsidies, tariff protections, etc., for an inefficient, patrimonialist, and somewhat broken industry that was developed in the 20th century. The Workers' Party itself fell into this outdated corporatism while in power, especially during the first Rousseff administration (2011-2015). It is a shame that advocating for greater state involvement in the economy ends up becoming a defense of those interest groups.
In this sense, I find myself opposed to both liberals and developmentalists. While the latter end up promoting an agenda that only benefits private interests, albeit with good intentions, the former dismiss any state planning, believing in an 'economic abiogenesis.' Since 2016, we have been reducing the role of the state and waiting for a crowding in effect, but with no success. We need strong a industrial policy, but it has to be transparent and not perpetuate the old game of patrimonialism.
In the words of the brilliant economist Laura Carvalho: "We want a State that identifies ways to stimulate technological innovation and product development in partnership with the private sector. But this policy cannot become hostage to the existing private sector. We have remnants of our industry of the 20th century, for example the automobile industry, and when we do industrial policy, we end up just giving incentives to them. This is a state that does not choose winners, but rather is chosen by losers. Those who are struggling in the industry try to eat the resources of the state to survive."
Unfortunately, the signals from the new Lula government are quite negative. Industry and Commerce Minister Geraldo Alckmin recently announced a plan of incentives for the automobile industry, which is essentially the same program that has failed several times in the past. There are positive things coming from his ministry, but few of them have much to do directly with a well-made industrial policy. It's a shame.
His plans beyond industrial policy appear positive, as shown in the following excerpt, at least: "Brazil had an early deindustrialization. Europe also deindustrialized, but ours was precarious and severe. More than reindustrializing, we need a neo-reindustrialization. A central issue is the competitiveness agenda. There is a principle in medicine that says: suppress the cause and the effect ceases. We have to act on the causes of low growth. Our tax model generates an absurd cost for companies. It is not fair. We have an absurd judicialization that leads to legal insecurity and hinders exports. The whole world has a VAT (value added tax. I defend it. I think Haddad is doing well and I am a great enthusiast of the tax reform."
Probably more than any other politician of expression today, Haddad positions himself as a republican and talks about reducing the patrimonialist distortions of the Brazilian public budget. He talks about "closing the drains of what is called Brazilian patrimonialism" and "ending a series of abuses that have been committed against the fiscal base" of the country. He says that many sectors have been "overly" benefited "with rules established over the decades and that have not been reviewed by any outcome control. Many have expired from the point of view of efficiency, and need to be revoked."
Former Governor of São Paulo (2001 - 2006; 2010 - 2017) and current Vice-President of Brazil and Minister of Industry and Commerce Geraldo Alckmin.
Business Environment
Brazilian productivity has been stagnant for decades. What is causing this? The main suspect is the Brazilian tax system. There is an enormous complexity in the various indirect taxes (ISS, ICMS, PIS/Cofins, and IPI), which forces every company to have an excessively large department dedicated to tax payment. Additionally, numerous divergences of interpretation arise between the Federal Revenue, state authorities, and businesses. On every corner of our cities, there is a specialized tax law office to assist companies in dealing with the extremely high level of litigation in our taxation system. To make matters worse, our indirect taxes discourage investment in locations with higher social returns, as the tax complexity and special tax regimes artificially alter the profitability of investments and production. A general simplification of these taxes, with the adoption of a Value Added Tax, could have an impact on the economy's efficiency equivalent to the Plano Real, which ended hyperinflation.
Even beyond the tax issue, the Brazilian business environment is terrible. According to the World Bank's Doing Business 2020 report, which measures the ease of doing business in 190 countries, Brazil ranks 124th. This problem is related to excessive bureaucracy, unexpected judicial decisions, loopholes in regulatory frameworks, and disrespect for contracts.
The Tax Reform is going to be the government's main priority after the approval of the New Fiscal Anchor. Planning Minister Simone Tebet summed up the reform as follows: "The Tax reform is the only silver bullet that we have to save Brazil."
And here's what Finance Minister Fernando Haddad has said about it: "There is no way to grow Brazil's productivity with this tax system [...] We are developing a tax reform that is even more modern, because it introduces in the national tax system a Value Added Tax that solves a good part of the flaws of the current system that, in my opinion, is the great villain for the low growth rates of our productivity." The idea is to approve the Tax Reform still this year (Haddad talks about doing it in the first semester!).
Special Secretary for Tax Reform Bernard Appy.
Economic Isolation
Brazil has a very closed economy. Among the 160 countries analyzed by the World Bank, the Brazilian economy is only less open than that of Sudan. The average protection applied by Brazil to capital goods is 14 times higher than in Chile and 25 times higher than in Mexico. This is probably the most expressive cause of the low productivity and deindustrialization in Brazil, together with the tax system. Here, I quote the brilliant economist Edmar Bacha: "[The closure of the Brazilian economy during the Geisel government (1974 - 1979)] caused a tremendous drop in the economy's productivity and an increase in the cost of capital goods. And this, I believe, is what lies at the root of our stagnation after the so-called economic miracle (1968-1974). Our industry became unable to compete internationally. And we were forced, because the industry has this extraordinary lobbying capacity, to prevent the redesign of the Brazilian industry to participate in global value chains."
Bacha's argument makes sense: the collapse of GDP growth coincides with the collapse of capital accumulation (the growth rate of the capital stock) after Geisel's government. Why did capital accumulation collapse? Bacha explains that using a decomposition of the investment = savings relationship: K' = s(1/p)v - δ, where K' = capital accumulation, s = savings rate, p = relative price of investment, v = output-capital ratio, and δ = depreciation rate.
Between 1950-1980, the "golden age" of Brazil, K' grew at nearly 9% per year. Between 1981-2014, this number was 3%. Why? Looking at the historical series, the difference is not in savings or depreciation. What happened was that the output-capital ratio fell by about one-third, and the relative price of investment increased by one-third. In other words, the capital requirement per unit of output increased significantly, and at the same time, the price of investment goods rose significantly. According to Bacha, this process occurred between 1973 and 1983, a period in which the Military Government pursued an autarkic economic policy.
The ideal scenario for Brazil would be to open its economy and have an export-oriented industry. The industry we have developed is heavily reliant on our domestic market, without external competition. In the words of economist Nelson Barbosa: "Brazil cannot produce ships, but it can produce airplanes. Brazil does not have car manufacturers, but it has bus manufacturers. Brazil cannot have a domestic production of microelectronics, but it has a good domestic production of electric motors. So we need to study what worked in these sectors to see if it can be replicated in other sectors. All these successful sectors, Embraer, Weg, Marco Polo, are sectors that are competitive in Brazil and in the world. Here is the first clue: correct industrial policies create domestic production that competes domestically and internationally. They are integrated products that import and export extensively. Value chains."
However, an open trade policy without a plan may not be positive either. In Nelson's words: "Development always means increased productivity. Opening the economy can stimulate productivity, but it can also lead to a negative specialization. You can open your economy and become a country that only exports commodities, with an inflated services sector that only sells domestically, with a significant portion of your population relying on informal jobs. Which is what happens in Brazil. So I think trade openness is inevitable, more developed countries are more open, but thinking that just opening up will automatically lead to development is naïve and something we shouldn't do in the 21st century. I believe that strategic trade integration is crucial and necessary for development. Unilateral openness, without any plan, will only reinforce the specialization we already have today."
In any case, it is certain that the current excessive protectionism cannot be maintained. Opening up would allow broader access for companies to (1) cheaper and higher-quality inputs and (2) foreign-produced capital goods and technology, (3) create significant competition effects to invigorate the economy, and (4) create a 'selection effect' that would eliminate losers and favor winners.
But this is the agenda that I am least hopeful about. Trade openness is a topic that faces strong opposition from the Brazilian left and would likely only occur under a moderate center-right government. I hope, at least, that some trade agreements can be reached to open up the economy. The European Union-Mercosur trade agreement would have a significant impact and would be very important but I'm not very hopeful that it'll be approved.
Haddad is still optimistic, though! He said that a more emphatic diplomatic effort will be made starting in the second semester, in a movement that will take advantage of Brazil's leadership in Mercosur and Spain's leadership in the European bloc.
Simone Tebet (Planning Minister) and Fernando Haddad (Finance Minister).
Interest Rates
Interest rates in Brazil are much, much higher than the global average. Our credit is scarce and dysfunctional. Lula likes to repeat that Brazil is a capitalist country without capitalism because there is no credit.
Brazil has the second-highest bank spread in the world, second only to Madagascar. This means that banks in Brazil charge very high interest rates for lending money. To give you an idea, Brazil's bank spread is higher than the average observed in countries at war. There are several reasons for this, but some stand out: (1) savings in Brazil have historically been very low (around 20% of GDP), (2) the government consumes a significant portion of savings to finance itself, and (3) the Brazilian banking sector is extremely concentrated, with a few banks dominating the entire sector.
The other issue in this discussion is the current policy interest rate set by the Central Bank. Brazil currently has the highest real interest rate in the world, at around 9%. The debate about whether this interest level is correct or not is quite active in Brazil, with its proponents arguing that the current Brazilian inflation is demand-driven and pointing to inflation in the services sector and core inflation, while its critics argue that inflation is not demand-driven, pointing to the fact that Brazil has had a negative output gap since 2015 and that supply shocks can explain the inflation in services.
This debate is complex, and it is hard to determine definitively which side is right. Nevertheless, the Central Bank is strongly adhering to the first thesis.
The current Chairman of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto (RCN), is the grandson of an economist of the Military Dictatorship and was appointed by Bolsonaro. He will remain in his position until 2024 due to the new autonomy granted to the Central Bank in 2021. In this scenario, Lula engaged in a public war against RCN, urging him to lower interest rates. The situation became tense, but Lula never showed any willingness to take effective action to remove him, remaining only in rhetoric. Throughout the conflict, Haddad positioned himself as a moderate, playing a certain "good cop, bad cop" game with Lula and gaining trust in the financial market. Apparently, Lula intends to nominate former executive-secretary of the Finance Ministry Gabriel Galípolo to replace RCN in 2024. He was recently appointed as director of monetary policy at the Central Bank, and is widely identified as a heterodox economist.
Haddad's current plan is to stabilize Brazil's deficit to allow for a monetary loosening. Here's what he said: "We are not at a point where fiscal expansion is going to help the economy. If there is room for any stimulus, it will be monetary. If we know how to make the transition, there is room for a lower interest rate, you just have to give security to the monetary authority." He does not seem to be concerned about banking concentration, though.
Chairman of the Central Bank Roberto Campos Neto.
TL;DR
The Brazilian economy has seen very little growth since the the lost decade in the 1980s. One of the primary factors contributing to this stagnation is the economy's low productivity. There are several reasons behind this low productivity, including:
  1. Inadequate infrastructure and insufficient investments in its development.
  2. A significant delay in comparison to other countries in terms of investing in education.
  3. Unreasonable economic protectionism.
  4. Private groups exerting undue influence and capturing the Brazilian state (patrimonialism).
  5. Failure to adapt our industry to a globalized world.
  6. Excessively high bank spreads.
  7. A terrible business environment, particularly due to the tax system.
There are other reasons for sure, but I'd say most people would agree those are the most important ones. Also, here's my effortpost on the Workers' Party, in case you haven't read it.

2023.05.28 02:17 Specific_Boot_8572 Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club Inc.

To: Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club Inc. This is a letter to describe my admiration, memories, and theories of your organization that I have been a fan of for about as long as I can recall. There’s been hard times but overall, I've enjoyed having an MLB team in my backyard. Even when the incompetent management of your organization yielded regular dismal seasons during the late 90s and into the mid-2000s I attended frequently and enjoyed the games. County Stadium had that old baseball charm and admittedly it was aged but beloved by the fans. Regardless of that, the team boldly went ahead and insisted they needed a new stadium for several reasons, but part of it was to make the Milwaukee Brewers a competitive team again. The thought of a winning team sold many people on the idea.
The new facility opened during that dark period, and the Brewers opted for the addition of several state-of-the-art features for that time including a highly touted roof that allowed games to be played during inclement weather. It could also be retracted within minutes for an outdoor baseball experience too. I remember several interesting moments involving the numerous leaks during rain showers and thunderstorms provided by the roof’s sieve-inspired construction which generally required some fans to move to other areas to avoid being deluged. In 2002 I lived on Milwaukee’s East Side, and I can still distinctly remember the synergy of excitement provided to the city from MLB and the Brewers organization from the flatulent ending of the MLB All-Star game in Milwaukee and the 100+ losses the Brewers accrued that season, it was all magic back then.
With respect to the positive features of the new stadium frequently advertised, some residents of Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, and Racine counties who were then a few years into living with a tax bestowed on them for 23 years to provide the funding for the stadium and the needed infrastructure couldn’t help but be caught up in the moment. We are all grateful to the Brewers for providing discounted tickets to 4 of the 81 home games held per season to residents of these counties as a demonstration of the gratitude for their involuntary funding their new corporate headquarters. I operate a sole-member LLC and admittedly am a layman with respect to operating a large organization like the Brewers. I’m sure there are good reasons that it has been decided that the 5-county discount promotions do not apply toward tickets in certain sections of the stadium, parking charges, food or beverages, or any other items such as clothing, hats, etc.
I think it is general common knowledge that utilizing an immense facility will inevitably present a need for occasional maintenance, renovation, and facility upgrade projects. We all understand these upgrades are necessary for the Brewers due to the nature of the business they are part of. These projects will allow the team to remain competitive on a mediocre level and increase annual net profits by sticking with a consistent business plan revolving around demanding that the facility upgrades are to be publicly subsidized. Like your strategy in the late 1990s, the Brewers have hinted that without the Milwaukee area providing all funding, there is a possibility they will then have to offer residents in a different United States metropolitan region discounts for 4.9% of the home games held there per season as a thank you for their funding of your new facility. This will then give the Brewers another opportunity to be provided with a new multi-million-dollar corporate headquarters virtually for free, and then insufficiently maintain that facility as well.
Many businesses set funds aside incrementally to cover the costs associated with facility needs and if the situation arises where they do not have the sufficient budget to pay for these projects, they will get a business loan and pay it back to the lender via the terms of the contract. It is now evident the Brewer’s plan was to send the residents of Wisconsin another invoice with hinted threats to leave Milwaukee if they don’t pay. To your credit, that tactic worked in the past with universal enthusiasm. It had been so long that many people had moved on and forgotten about that time, so I admire the clever way the team went about stirring up all that enthusiasm once again. Not having to apply or account for expenses associated with the initial construction and renovations associated with your business site to maximize net profits is innovative. As a business owner, I had never thought to gouge and bully my clients to increase my project margins so I appreciate the different perspective.
I sense that if negotiations regarding the funding come to an impasse, the Brewers will be left with no other options but to positively market the potential creation of low-paying part-time jobs without benefits as a spin to convince another city to build them a stadium that meets their specifications. Luckily, the Brewers and the MLB have great resources to mask how lopsided a stadium deal in a new community will be and the consequences associated with full public subsidizing of private entities. It will get everyone on board to provide the Brewers with a new site equipped with 300-foot double-sided 4K scoreboards, a 400-speaker audio system, and the requisite number of bistro restaurants, distilleries, brew pubs, swimming pools, upscale shopping options, champagne and wine bars, spa centers, farmers markets, and rock-climbing walls.
I do genuinely hope the club is not forced to move due to the overwhelming greed of local governments prioritizing the use of their limited budgets towards necessary municipal services instead of covering the Brewers and their lack of willingness to save and pay for conspicuous facility renovations. Should they leave though, I'm sure the current stadium will still hold a concert or monster truck rally here and there for about a five-year period until being abandoned, stripped of any copper materials, fully vandalized, and left to rot.
In summary, the Brewers have held a special place in my life for a long time. I realize that the current lease will be in place for several more years but it makes sad to know that I will likely still end up having to experience a momentary period of sorrow when a door hits your ass on their way out of town. But I also know everything will all be OK because the moving expenses will not be paid by the team, and that thought makes me feel much better.
On behalf of the State of Wisconsin,
We’re tired of your bullying tactics and your shitty overpriced product. Pack up - but before you leave, grab a bratwurst or hot dog or Polish or whatever….and shove it far up your ass. Enough is enough. Go charge $10+ for a beer from a major brewery located in plain sight not even mile from the stadium just because you can somewhere else.

2023.05.28 01:47 Smoking-Bandit Hunter x Hunter: Ratings & Thoughts (41 - 50)

First time watcher, NO SPOILERS BEYOND EPISODE 50 PLEASE. I have NOT seen anything past the episodes listed in this post. And if I ask a question that gets answered later in the series, or make crazy statements that may sound stupid with hindsight of later events, kindly don't take the responsibility of answering those for me, as that would still be a spoiler to me, and I want to experience the answers in the show itself. Thanks for understanding and respecting.

41. Gathering × Of × Heroes - 4/5 (It's crazy how rich Gon and Killua are. Just casually spending 20 million "Jenny" (why is the fictional currency just called by a female name?) like it's nothing. And that's not to mention the 800 million they made at Heavens Arena. Also, apparently Nen is able to visualize a whole 3 dimensional space around you through... A computer? How does THAT happen? I know you can infuse items with Nen and make them do specific things, but has the Hunter Association gone around and infused every public computer with Nen?? I DOUBT that. So what's actually happening here? Does the website somehow involuntality active the users Nen to visualize the bar? And if so... HOW does it do that?? It's a website, which is not a tangible thing. It can't have any Nen contained within it, and I don't see how it can forcibly activate someone elses Nen. Maybe the website's servers has the Nen infused and they transmit the Nen towards you when you load it... I don't know. Gosh. I was probably not meant to think this hard about it.
It's the Phantom Troupe, wowee. That's... A LOT of characters. I am certainly not going to remember them easily. The blonde guy (Shalnark) sticks out very oddly compared to the other male characters due to his huge, vertical oval eyes. This show has a strange contrast in general with character designs, since some will look really sharp and rough with "normal" sized eyes, while others will have the typical "cutesy" big eyed, button nosed, round anime design. Hell, the "big eyes" in this show far exceeds what is typical! I much prefer the former, but the latter works for female characters (Although Neon is REALLY pushing my limits) and kids. But Shalnark is an adult, yet he has the face of a child. He looks so weird! He doesn't appear at all like someone who would be a dangerous thief, unlike every other male characters in the Troupe. Neither do 2/3 of the female characters to be fair, but as I said, it works for them. I'm glad at least one of them, Pakunoda, was allowed look unique. She's got that long aquiline nose instead of a button. LOL.
Side note: The "ghost" that comes out of Neon's pen when she writes fortunes looks freaky)

42. Defend × And × Attack - 4/5 (I really liked the background score for the opening in the Yorknew Marketplace. Also, HI LEORIO! Been a long time since I saw him. I figured that he wouldn't really have learned Nen. He has no reason to, he's not a fighter. Although it would be amusing to see what type he is and what abilities he'd manage to concoct. But he did learn Ren, so... Who taught that to him? Anyway, I love that the first thing he does when he meets up with Gon and Killua again is scam people. Stay classy. Still the funniest character. Also, the Phantom Troupe lady who attempted the arm wrestling challenge, Shizuku, looks so goofy. She has the massive eyes I talked about last episode, but her glasses only cover the lower half of them, and she's constantly cross-eyed. I think it's a funny look.
I really enjoyed that scene where Hisoka looks around at the other Phantom Troupe members, and stares down the boss. I don't know why, nothing really happened in it, I just enjoyed the creepy atmosphere and the score accompanying it. But more than that, I really enjoyed the conversation between Kurapika and Melody quite a lot. Specifically her backstory. But the effects of the cursed Sonata of Darkness melody is so strange. Basically, it's so cursed that your body will somehow just burn up from the inside, get all scaly and crusty (or whatever it is that happens, we never properly see the result) just from hearing it. But if you only hear some of it, it instead gives you "ugly" features? Since the way it "deformed" Melody was... Making her a midget, balding the top of her head, and giving her buck teeth. Those are some very oddly specific "deformities")

43. A × Shocking × Tragedy - 4/5 (Well, THAT sure was a massacre. There was a giant pool of blood for crying out loud. Quite disturbing, to be honest. Those guys were all supposedly part of the mafia, so I guess I'm not supposed to feel too bad, but surely they were not all bad guys... And Baise passed away in the chaos as well, right by the hand of Shizuku. That was a brutal moment. I didn't get super attached to her as a character or something, but that was still cruel. Shizuku's Nen ability is pretty zany, though. She can conjure up a vacuum cleaner and suck endless amounts of mass and then just despawn it? Where does all the content go?
I don't have much else of substance to say. The mafia families keep attacking Uvo, and I'm given some information about the 10 Dons around the world and their "Shadow Beasts", but they only show up at the end. So, next episode better be amazing. "Worm" looks freaky as hell, though. Is that actually a human?!)

44. Buildup × To A × Fierce Battle - 4/5 (Remember just a few episodes ago when this show refused to show blood on Hisoka's arm? Well, now they're letting us see characters get half their head bitten off and a bullet between the eyes. I'm not even sure why the title says "buildup". That wasn't buildup, that WAS the fierce battle. Uvo completely wrecked the Shadow Beasts. It was pretty disturbing. It's kind of annoying that they probably would have had a chance of winning if they were just a little more clever. First of all, Leech shouldn't have been so close to Uvo's face. Second, Rabid Dog should have attempted to dodge the "bullet" rather than block it with his hand. I mean, easier said than done, I guess. You can't exactly think rationally in extreme moments like that. I'm just saying that it would have been feasible to survive. Especially since the scene was slowed down to show what Rabid Dog was thinking fast, yet didn't consider moving! I was glad to see that Worm at least survived in the end, but then he died anyway.
Kurapika being able to restrain and yank Uvo with his chains was pretty awesome and satisfying, considering how highly he thinks of himself. He got humbled. Also, I don't think this was meant to be comical, but I found it pretty funny when Kurapika was monologuing about his chain restriction in his head while you can hear Melody in the background screaming at him to focus on the road. Made it feel like it was meant to be a parody of excessive monologues. LOL. Speaking of Melody, her relaxing flute music was great. It was genuinely calming even for me, the viewer!)

45. Restraint × And × Vow - 3/5 (The Owl's entrance was pretty cool, and his round, goofy eyes were amusing (lotta thoughts about eyes lately). Too bad he barely put up much of a fight. That was disappointing. Especially since he was seemingly the smartest of the Shadow Beasts. He told the others not to underestimate the Phantom Troupe! Idiots. These Shadow Beasts were really not as powerful as cracked up to be. I guess it's to show how truly dangerous the Phantom Troupe is, though. Kurapika was able to punch Uvo hard enough to give him a nosebleed, so he must be pretty damn powerful himself. That was satisfying to see. Again, Uvo's being humbled. His uncontrollable rage upon rescue was hilarious. His pride was hurt, wah wah. Excited to see him hunt down and have an actual fight with Kurapika.
I love that Hisoka is simply so horny for fighting people that he joined the Phantom Troupe just to battle the boss. And he's willing to team up with Kurapika to double cross them just so he can do so. I'm VERY intrigued to see where this will lead. Hisoka and Kurapika teamup? He's got to be the "traitor" that tipped the 10 Dons off about the planned attack. As a final note, uh... Gee, how do I phrase this... Why the fuck are Gon and Killua black in the Hunterpedia segment??!!?!)

46. Chasing × And × Waiting - 3/5 (No Hisoka/Kurapika teamup yet, but he's gonna return tomorrow, so... That's still interesting. And the ending when Uvo tracked Kurapika was very suspenseful. But everything else in the episode, while good, I have very little to comment on. I liked Kurapika being voted the temporary leader, I guess. And Uvo kissing Shalnark sure was a thing that happened. Gon, Killua and Leorio are now also gonna hunt the Phantom Troupe, so... More interesting stuff. Gon and Killua are still black in the Hunterpedia segment. After looking it up, turns out it's meant to be a tan due to the previous few segments being set outside. The color choice looks far more like plain black skin though, not a tan, or even a sunburn)

47. Condition × And × Condition - 5/5 (The fact that Uvo and Kurapika both took the time to go to the outskirts of the city before fighting is pretty funny, because it means they obviously went together. Must have been an awkward trip. And it's also funny that we see Uvo taking a piss before the fight. He doesn't take it very seriously at all, which makes it all the more satisfying when Kurapika absolutely wrecks him. Deservingly so. And I enjoy the fact that Kurapika is a "heroic" protagonist who doesn't share the typical "If I kill them, I'm no better than them" ideology. It's a pretty tiring trait, since most of the time it's literally about evil people who cannot be changed or contained, like Uvo here. But that doesn't mean Kurapika enjoyed the act of doing it, he was clearly torn. Which makes this all the more interesting. And a badass fight.
Kurapika's "condition" doesn't really make any sense to me at all. Like, how does setting up a failsafe for yourself so that you'll be punished if you break a condition you make up on your own somehow enhance your abilities? This is why I don't think Nen is as awesome and unique as people make it out to be. There's a lot of rules and restrictions, but no explanations for "why" of them. WHY does such a condition enhance your powers? What's the in-universe reason for it? It just seems to be "because it does". Not very compelling to me, to be honest. Not that it made the episode less enjoyable, considering that it was awesome. Also, Gon and Killua are white again. Yay)

48. Very × Sharp × Eye - 3/5 (Gon actually pawned his Hunter License?! That was surprising, and kinda sad, considering he can now NEVER get another one. What if he need it for more Ging clues? Wah wah wah wowowowow. Anyway, this episode is just "Gon and Killua go antiquing", but I enjoyed the laid back vibe of it, and Zepile was a nice character to meet. So overall, decent)

49. Pursuit × And × Analysis - 4/5 (Holy crap, this is some suspenseful stuff. I loved Gon and Killua tailing the two Phantom Troupe members, but even moreso when they were caught. The zoom-in on Gon and Killua's eyes and their lightning fast bolt was a great visual. As was Killua bopping around the room, and his fight with Phinks, even though it was brief. I wish the series would have sequences like that which go on for longer, because that was epic. The only other fight of this calibre we've seen was the start of Gon and Hisoka's battle at Heavens Area. Not that the dialogue heavy battles are "bad", but sometimes an all-out brawl is a visual treat, and it's a bummer when it's so great, yet so short. But the Phantom Troupe capturing Gon and Killua is still super exciting, so this remains awesome. It was made even more suspenseful when I thought Gon was going to escape, but then Machi stopped him like she's The Flash or something! Honestly, 5/5 for the entire latter half of this episode.
Killua's father and grandpa are both now on their way to take care of the Phantom Troupe as well, so there's even more exciting things to get hyped for! The only less interesting part of this episode is the scene with Neon. Her role in the show felt to me like it was mostly just a way to forward Kurapika's journey towards the Phantom Troupe. Hell, the whole Nostrade family aspect felt more like a segway into that, so I don't understand why there's so much focus put on Neon and her father. It's not a LOT of focus, but it's some. She has a scene every few episodes. She did have that fortune-telling ghostwriting ability, so, there's gotta be SOMETHING important with her coming up, otherwise these parts would all be a waste)

50. Ally × And × Sword - 4/5 (Wow, new intro- Dammit, IT'S JUST THE FIRST THEME SONG AGAIN! I'm being sarcastic, since I actually love the opening, but I've definitely developed a preference for the second version more. And this one only changes visuals once the chorus hits, but then the last part is the same one of Hisoka taunting Gon. Definitely feels like they could switch it up a little more, but I enjoy the individual Phantom Troupe spotlight regardless, so, whatever.
Heh, Killua averting Gon's "wow" from Hisoka to Shizuku was a nice save. How lucky that they met her a few episodes earlier. Seems she has memory loss, so I guess THAT'S an aspect of her character... Anyway, this is one of those episodes that is great, but I somehow don't have a lot to say about. It's only 2 scenes, so there's not a lot of different things happening for me to have many takes on. Best I can do is list the parts I enjoyed. And they include: Nobunaga showing genuine emotion for Uvo, Gon getting so angry he manages to win one armwrestling mach against him, Killua freaking out over feeling powerless, him and Gon's clever escape, and Gon's grin in the end when he claims Killua is the one who should keep HIM in check, not the other way around. But I basically just recapped the episode here, so, yeah. NEXT)

2023.05.28 00:49 i-am-an-idiot-hrmm Chance a Homeschooled Sophomore for Duke!

Age: 16
Grade: 10th, sophomore year
State: MD
Hooks: First Gen, Rural student (Homeschooled?)
Major: Global Health Co Major, I’m not sure what the other would be. Either International Comparative Studies, or Philosophy maybe. (I want to study neglected tropical disease, and with an emphasis on vector biology and policy surrounding the issue.)
Awards: I’m lackin here lol, I have 2 first place awards from my MUN. (Public speaker and Best Diplomat. It’s almost guaranteed my IGEM team will get an award, not sure what tier.)
GPA: Very fuzzy last year since there were no external grades, so everything’s messed up. This year I have all externally graded straight As, besides a B In math.
Test Scores: N/A I’m gonna take the SAT in the summer
Hooks: First Gen, (homeschooler?)
Course rigor:
I take mostly honors classes for my high school curriculum, which so far has been Honors American Literature, and Honors IPolisci class. This years honors are World Literature, and Psychology, which is actually psych 101, but it’s not taught through a college and so it doesn’t have the official accreditation.
Last semester I took communications 101 DE, and this semester Im taking Anthropology 101, and Health 101.
I’m going to end up with a public health associates degree from my local Community College if I play my cards right.
I take roughly 1-3 honors courses every year. The rest is usually just a regular math class (I’m a little behind in math. I’m taking alg 1. Long story short, I had to relearn 3 years worth of math in a couple months. I’m gonna get a tutor to bring me up to speed). This year I’m also taking a medical entomology class by professor Beckmann, but it’s actually just watching his class recordings with his permission.
  1. Junior Vet Technician and Senior Kennel Staff. / I’ve been working literally the second I could haha.
  2. Marketing and Outreach Fellow for a non profit organization focused around Global Youth education and empowerment. (5 hours/week for a $200 monthly stipend). The next part of my volunteer work for this organization is as a class representative for the session I attended of their 2 week summer program. / I’ve been working with since since roughly July of last year
  3. Researcher and Editor for the State of Global Youth Report (in progress). This is also under the global youth org, and it’s likely due to the amount of hours I’ll contribute that I will be deemed a team lead by launch. I am currently launching the survey we use for our primary data source.
  4. Statewide Model UN Solo Delegate (It was hosted by a local university. It was my first ever, and to date only MUN, but I won awards. I am going to an MUN advanced overnight camp this summer.) / I did this sometime earlier this year
  5. IGEM contestant (For this year, we just started and selected our project.)
  6. Antkeeping
  7. Refugee Service Ambassador (this is very loose, the organization I work with has the ambassadorship paused until next year.)
  8. Animal Care (I have a vast variety of pets, including 2 snakes, 2 geckos, 4 dogs, 3 cats, a rat, an axolotl, ≈40 chickens, 5 goats. I often foster rescue dogs. Because of all of these animals relying on me, it’s very difficult to spend long periods away from home, significantly limiting my potential for learning abroad.
  9. Historical and Fictional Geopolitical RPG developer
Independent study is a very important part of my curriculum. For example, history and geography I have had no formal instruction in, but I am easily college level in both of those fields.
I don’t have any foreign language credits really, but I will be grinding hard through the summer and rest of the school years to get the required credits. I plan on learning Arabic, Indonesian, and Italian during highschool. Arabic is probably gonna be through a tutor my Syrian friend recommended, and will be my primary second language.
My upcoming EC plans are:
-More than likely I’m going to see how I can get involved in the MUN organization who’ll run my camp
Please tell me anything I can do to improve!

2023.05.28 00:01 exitLOVE Father

This will be a rather long story about my father, and I hope I won't bore anyone.
My father is a person who is pathologically jealous and completely devoid of any emotions or empathy. I'm not a doctor, so I can only speculate, but I believe he may also have schizophrenia and who knows what else.
My mother is a very kind person, highly sensitive, and I love her dearly. I inherited her high sensitivity, and I am completely different from my father.
When I was a child, I witnessed my mother crying several times (which is quite strange because usually, when you're younger than 10, you don't remember things well. However, I recently realized that you remember negative things several times more than positive ones because they were hurtful to you or someone close to you).
My father wouldn't allow my mother to go out with anyone, not even friends. When I was maybe 7 or 8 years old, we went to an outdoor swimming pool. I was afraid to go in, so my mother put on her swimsuit and went in to help me. When we returned home, I approached my mother and quietly asked if we would go there again sometime. She put her finger to her lips, signaling for me not to say anything. But my father overheard and hid her swimsuit.
He would search her bags at night, call her and ask where she was going and why. Sometimes he would even follow her. I saw my mother helpless and in tears multiple times, knowing that she was like imprisoned and had wasted her life.
As I grew older, she told me she wanted to leave him because she couldn't take it anymore, but she was afraid he would kill all of us (me, my mother, siblings, and even someone from our family). Back then, I didn't fully understand it, but now I know she was right, and it's very possible if he had nothing to lose. They are both almost 60 years old now.
I am mentally destroyed by my father, by several things - by seeing my mother suffer and feel helpless, and by the fact that when I was 10 to 16 years old, helping him with anything, he treated me like trash. All it took was for me not to hold the net too tightly, and he would start shouting at the top of his lungs, saying he would "fuck me up, kill me, that I'm a piece of shit," or if I couldn't tie a bucket with a knot to lift it to a higher level of the building, he would scream so loudly that I turned my head around to see if the neighbors were looking.
He would yell, "tie it, for fuck's sake! Show me how you do it, tie it because I'll kill you!" I would go to my room, close the door, and cry - convincing myself that I was stupid, an idiot, worthless. I would ask myself why I had to be so dumb, why I couldn't do anything - after all, in my country at that time, it was believed that "the older person is wiser, knows better, and should be obeyed." Because of him, I have absolutely no self-esteem. I'm not saying my self-esteem is low - I simply don't have it. I don't believe in myself. When something doesn't work out, and I struggle with some things and need more time, but then manage to handle them normally, I feel like crying and ask myself why I have to be so unintelligent.
Father and mother.
My father has something in his head, and when my mother's brother (from the same mother) comes to our country (he has been living in another country for many years), my father stays at home. When my mother's brother hugs her, my father immediately gets up from the couch and watches the hug. When my mother sits with her brother in the kitchen, my father keeps walking around the kitchen every minute, watching what they are doing.
Once, when it happened that my uncle stayed overnight at our house, my father wouldn't let them sleep in the same room. He was convinced that something inappropriate would happen between them. My mother and her brother have a normal, loving sibling relationship, but my father's jealousy and paranoia create constant tension and distress in our family.
I apologize if the translation is not perfect, as it is generated by an AI language model.
And he went to sleep and closed the door, and my father, whose room is next to mine, also went to lie down - but suddenly he fell asleep. When he woke up, he quickly got up and realized that my mother wasn't there, so he went after her to the store because he was afraid that she went somewhere with her brother - he drove after her (she went shopping, to buy groceries), while her brother was still sleeping behind closed doors. Whenever my mother is in the garden doing something and her brother steps outside for a moment and my father sees them talking, he panics and grabs any documents and goes outside to my mother - he runs instead of walking.
He even once installed listening devices in the house when her brother was there.
Moreover, my father is a very aggressive person - very much so.
Today, as I write this, my father has accumulated enormous debts because he loses a lot of money on sports betting - gambling. His business is doing very poorly, but he still loses everything and incurs debts without paying the suppliers for the goods.
We don't really know the full extent of the debts and our financial situation because it's impossible to talk to him about it.
He started giving my mother very little money for the household, so it's not enough for her, and she only humiliates herself by asking him for money. So she found a job - after all these years, she started working (if she hadn't met him and married him, she would have had a very good education and would have earned a great salary in her profession, but she gave up all of that) - after the divorce, he became ten times more problematic.
The job she found involves cleaning for a few hours a day, after everyone has left work - only the security is present. She has a restroom, a roof over her head, and warmth in the building. My father went mad; recently, he came to the gate and started yelling, cursing, and tried to force his way through the gate (it's a government facility), and if he had succeeded, the police would have been called immediately. He yelled that he didn't care, he wanted to go in, and that my mother should come out - she recorded him.
The security guards sympathized with her for having such a partner. He sat by the gate for several hours. He's completely destroying her mentally, and she no longer wants to live like this; she doesn't have the strength. She could earn money for her living expenses (there's high inflation), bills, and dental care, but this psycho probably won't let her, and she's very afraid that he will do something terrible - unfortunately, it's a very real fear.
Unfortunately, in my country (in Europe), even if you go to the police and they issue a restraining order or something similar, it doesn't help if the person has severe mental problems. This year, a man in my country killed his children, wife, and parents. In the previous year, there were a few similar cases - maybe 2 or 3? Where a man killed his own children and wife, and one case happened in my city. She wanted to leave him, get a divorce, and he found out about it, so he killed his two daughters (around 10 years old) and his wife with some tools. Such incidents happen in other countries as well, whether it's the USA or other countries.
Now he has returned during the night and started slamming things again while preparing food. If something doesn't go as he wants, he raises his voice and slams objects. He was talking to my mother about something, and when she disagreed, he started slamming the cupboard doors, chairs. My mother went to sleep or tried to sleep. He walked with his food in front of the TV and muttered under his breath, "You'll have your fucking secrets." Even if he were to keep her chained up in a closed room without light and people, he would still believe that she has secrets. And he certainly betrayed her, and we don't know what he has been doing.
Even if he had her under constant control, his mind would still create scenarios that she has secrets, and he would believe in them.
I love my mother very much, and I don't really know what to do. She is suffering greatly and doesn't want to live like this anymore. But she's afraid that he will kill her and us at home.
I'm completely helpless, and I'm ready to die for my mother or do something to protect her if things get really bad. I don't know what to do because I know that a restraining order and other measures won't stop someone like him. It would be best if women in such situations could receive training in self-defense and handling firearms and have access to a weapon temporarily, but it's impossible, even to possess a firearm. (I enrolled in university at nearly 30 years old, and I can't even concentrate on studying because I have so many things on my mind. It's difficult to read any books or focus on anything else)

The following information is presented as a direct transmission without any personal subjective elements. Its authenticity is subjective and open to individual interpretation**.**
It is important to approach the content with an open mind, suspending conventional three-dimensional perspectives.
You are welcome to question, disagree, and inquire while maintaining respect for others. The information provided is based on my compilation of diary entries from the past two years, during which I have also received guidance from extraterrestrial visitors. Thus, the following content represents their intended message for humanity on Earth.
In the past two years, I have had experiences where I encountered beings that I believe to be extraterrestrials. If we classify them based on physical appearance, I have come across more than 50 distinct types, with the majority resembling the commonly known "Grey aliens." Although their colors varied slightly, they shared common traits such as slender limbs and large heads. Notably, all the extraterrestrial beings I encountered were devoid of hair. The height of these beings ranged from approximately 15cm (infant stage) to around 3 meters (adult stage).
In these encounters, I found myself often alone in a room, and they would approach me or transport my consciousness to another dimensional space for communication. On some occasions, these encounters took place in public settings such as airplanes, libraries, parks, and other crowded areas. However, I must emphasize that during these moments, I was the sole witness and participant in the interactions with these beings.
During encounters with certain alien species, I have noticed unusual physical reactions. For some of them, my eyelids would involuntarily twitch regardless of whether my eyes were open or closed. In the presence of highly energetic beings, I experienced involuntary movements in my limbs as well. Subsequently, their images would manifest in my mind, as if a vast mural was being projected before me.
However, I have also encountered extraterrestrial beings that closely resembled ordinary humans, though I could sense their true essence within. Some of these beings wore glass helmets, possibly to accommodate Earth's atmospheric conditions or magnetic fields (vibrational frequencies).
In addition to encountering extraterrestrial beings commonly depicted in media, literature, and online sources, I have come across entities whose existence has no recorded precedent in human accounts. Remarkably, I even find myself using terms like "beautiful" to describe certain female-like extraterrestrial beings due to their unique physical characteristics.
I have primarily encountered civilizations within our own Milky Way galaxy. During these encounters, I have observed certain civilizations whose attire suggests the presence of social hierarchies. However, it remains uncertain whether these hierarchies are based on an "elder system," "mentor system," or "monarchical system."
The information they transmit to me will not surpass my cognitive range. If there is a need for me to explore unfamiliar areas of knowledge, even beyond the existing knowledge on Earth, they will "arrange" opportunities for me to learn about them in advance.
Our communication takes place using telepathy or pure consciousness exchange. In this mode of communication, they utilize my native language, which is Cantonese.
In my experience, most of the information I have received has been through passive means, as I have been approached by these beings rather than actively seeking out encounters or information.
The information provided is as follows: We are currently existing in the 363rd universe, which is the fifth Earth, and it represents the eighth civilization. Starting from the latter half of 2019, there has been a notable shift in the vibrational frequency of Earth, leading to the occurrence of various extreme climatic events. Simultaneously, this shift has brought about a change in the frequency of consciousness for many individuals, resulting in a spiritual awakening. It is my understanding that these individuals have discovered a deeper sense of purpose in life, transcending materialistic pursuits.
Based on the information provided by extraterrestrial beings from the constellation of Andromeda , it is said that there will be a series of collective and open contact events between alien civilizations and humanity before the year 2025. During one such encounter, I encountered an extraterrestrial being who emitted a luminous white glow and possessed elongated limbs. Interestingly, they wore a glass-like covering around their neck. The spacecraft I observed differed significantly from what I had previously encountered or seen in popular depictions. Its surface had a dark metallic appearance, composed of overlapping three-dimensional geometric shapes such as irregular polygons, cubes, and flattened geometrical forms.
On March 12, 2023, it was conveyed to me that the first public contact would take place on May 30 of the same year.
On March 30, 2023, the spacecraft entered the solar system.
On May 12, 2023, at 1:00 AM, during my daily Zhan Zhuang(站桩) session, I had a visit from a pale gray extraterrestrial being.
This time, I took the initiative to ask questions.
Me: What is the significance of open contact?
ET: It is intended to assist individuals/souls on Earth in gaining a deeper understanding of themselves.
Me: What about the Creator?
ET: The Creator is the inherent existence itself, implying that every conscious being is an aspect of the Creator.
I further inquired about the concept of Earth's ascension, and the extraterrestrial explained that ascension involves returning to the past. If one does not ascend, they continue to exist in the present, but there is no conventional notion of a "future."
It is speculated that in the year 2030, Earth will experience a significant shift known as the singularity point. During this time, awakened individuals will transcend to a higher frequency, entering a dimension separate from the physical world. This event is often referred to as Earth's ascension. The process of ascension requires the collective power of awakened souls as well as the assistance of certain structures scattered across the planet, such as ancient pyramid-like monuments. These structures are believed to have served as energy amplifiers or charging stations for extraterrestrial craft in ancient civilizations.
After 2030, the frequency and intensity of both natural and human-induced disasters are expected to increase. As Earth undergoes profound changes, including extreme weather events, the fate of humanity becomes uncertain. The exact timeline or duration of these transformations leading to the eventual disappearance of human presence is unknown.
It is believed by some individuals who have awakened to their higher consciousness on Earth that they may be experiencing their final incarnation within the cycle of reincarnation on this planet. As a result, there may be a decrease in the number of souls choosing to incarnate here. Personally, I have noticed a noticeable decrease in the number of individuals since November 2022.
In my clairvoyant visions of the future, I witnessed a final scene of Earth where all surface water rapidly returned to the planet's core, leaving behind a desiccated terrain. The Earth's atmosphere vanished, and the protective energetic boundaries surrounding the planet dissipated. There is no specific timeframe for these events, but when I witnessed them, I was astonished for about 30 seconds.
On June 3, 2021, during my time in Toronto, I encountered an extraterrestrial being who claimed to be from the most advanced civilization in the Milky Way galaxy. This being had a head resembling that of an octopus and spoke with a masculine voice. Unlike previous extraterrestrial encounters, this being had human-like eyes and emitted a subtle blue and white light. He had a humanoid form.
Using blackboard-like equipment, he wrote a series of symbols and mathematical equations, some of which involved the use of π in different orientations. However, I couldn't comprehend whether these symbols represented text or formulas.
Given my limited knowledge of physics, I asked him to provide a simple and easily understandable example to explain the concept of a singularity. He responded by saying, "A singularity is like a fully ripe watermelon." From my understanding, he meant that a singularity represents a transformative point where a significant qualitative change occurs.

The following is a personal account and viewpoint.
Extraterrestrial Technology
I can only say that the technological advancements of extraterrestrial beings surpass our current level of Earthly technology by a significant margin. It is important to note that the depictions of alien technology in science fiction movies cannot truly capture the full extent of their capabilities. At present, our ability to "detect" or "discover" extraterrestrial life is limited. Therefore, relying solely on visual evidence captured by human senses, optical instruments, such as photographs and videos, or even advanced military radar tracking technology, may not be sufficient to prove the existence of extraterrestrial beings. It is possible that these observations only provide glimpses into their plans and intentions.
During my personal encounters, I witnessed their spacecraft, which seemed to be powered by crystals that resemble those found on Earth. Therefore, when I tried remote viewing the base of the Egyptian pyramids, I observed the presence of enormous crystal formations. I have contemplated whether the ancient extraterrestrial beings, such as the Anunnaki, were interested in mining not for gold, as commonly believed by humans, but for the seemingly undervalued resource of crystals.
Aliens on the moon
The extraterrestrial beings I observed on the Moon resemble the appearance of small greys, but their skin is not smooth and instead has numerous wrinkles. Whenever they are outside their spacecraft, these beings always wear spacesuits, with their heads exposed and not requiring a helmet. I saw this through my clairvoyant abilities, but as soon as they became aware of my presence, I stopped RV them after a few seconds. I gathered that these particular extraterrestrial beings have some connection to Russia and the United States, with a closer affiliation to Russia.
On January 23, 2023, at 3:00 AM, I used remote viewing of the Moon again and discovered that all of them had evacuated from the lunar surface, still wearing their spacesuits. This leads me to speculate that there will no longer be any human lunar exploration missions in the future.
The pyramids on Mars
March 25, 2023 -The following information was conveyed to me by my ancestral spirit guide: There are currently two pyramids on Mars, similar in size to the one in Mexico. They have been buried underground by orange-red sand. Some interstellar extraterrestrials are still exploring the interior of the pyramids.
Interstellar extraterrestrials are a group of beings from outside our universe who explore other celestial bodies. They cannot breathe in space or environments with oxygen and require special gases. They wear suits similar to spacesuits on Earth, but their structures and functionalities are more advanced. Their bodies emit a faint glow.
Earth Ascension
APR 12, 2023 - Over the past couple of years, I have been gradually glimpsing fragments of my existence before reincarnating on Earth, leading me to speculate about Earth's previous civilization. It appears that Earth was once a highly advanced civilization existing in higher dimensions, and the occurrence of the great flood undoubtedly caused a significant dimensional decline. As a result, the tales of advanced civilizations such as Mu, Atlantis, and the mythological stories passed down across the world, which I initially believed to be true stories of divine encounters, now seem to be events involving ancient higher-dimensional human civilizations. The ascension of Earth does not involve a transition from three dimensions to four or higher dimensions, but rather a restoration of Earth to its original trajectory and vibrational frequency.
ET Wars
During the summer of 2021, I had my first encounter with two distinct large spacecraft engaged in a "war" in the skies above Vancouver. However, from my perspective, the "warfare" amounted to the two ships closely approaching each other for a brief moment before one of them vanished entirely. For the average person looking up at the sky, they would likely see nothing more than a peaceful day with blue skies and the sun. It seems that there are factions of extraterrestrial beings on Earth representing different groups or alliances.
Thiaoouba Prophecy
It is a book that gives me the impression of an attempt by an extraterrestrial to write in a human-like manner. Many people consider it to be a pseudo book, as it contains elements that come across as rigidly presented, and the author's thinking appears quite different.
North Korea
This country is associated with an extraterrestrial race of insect type, of which I am very certain, that the highest leader Kim Jong-un appearing publicly inside and outside the DPRK is not himself.

I would like to briefly share my background. I was born in a small tea plantation in Guangdong, China. From an early age, I frequently encountered extraterrestrial beings or had experiences where they sought me out. Although I didn't know who they were during my childhood, I was certain that they did not originate from Earth. For me, extraterrestrial beings/civilizations have always been present on Earth, and they are ubiquitous. It was not until I reached middle school that I realized their existence in this world was either unknown or denied.
In my perspective, extraterrestrial beings have not openly interacted with humans due to our overwhelming fear of the unknown and our inherent resistance to anything different or dissenting. Humans often approach unfamiliar things and differing opinions with hostility.
In a dream I had in February 2023: Many extraterrestrial beings descended from the sky wearing silver-white protective suits made of metallic material. Their spacecraft resembled our helicopters to some extent. However, at that time, humans were still unable to visually perceive their presence. It required a large screen device, larger than our current smartphones, measuring approximately 20cm x 15cm x 2cm, to detect them. The extraterrestrial beings did not engage in any actions that would harm humans physically or mentally. Some curious individuals were solely focused on capturing photos and videos using this device, while others were filled with panic and fled the scene.
On March 5, 2023, for the first time, I had contact with extraterrestrial beings through a dream. This dream occurred when I fell back asleep after waking up in the morning. In the dream, I temporarily stayed at a guesthouse near an airport as I needed to go somewhere. One day, I took a ride in a seven-seater business vehicle rented by the hotel to visit a nearby commercial area. Suddenly, during the journey, I fell into a drowsy state. Just as I was about to rest my eyes in the car, a long, soft tentacle-like appendage coiled around my right index finger, making two loops. I immediately opened my eyes, and the tentacle disappeared.
At that moment, I had a realization that I needed to close my eyes to establish a connection with the entity. I closed my eyes once again, and a sense of its presence enveloped me. It stood approximately 20 to 30 centimetres tall. As I touched its body with my left hand, I noticed its skin was remarkably smooth, akin to the delicate skin of a human baby. There were no hairs, and its form lacked excess fat. Its head resembled that of a human, measuring around 8 to 10 centimetres in diameter. It felt considerably softer than a human head, and on the left side of its head, there was a protrusion resembling a fan-shaped structure, somewhat reminiscent of tendrils. Throughout the entire encounter, I kept my eyes closed, yet I could sense the overwhelming sense of joy and serenity emanating from the being. After approximately ten seconds of contact, it disappeared.
Upon waking up, I experienced a faint electric sensation coursing through my body. Every pore seemed to be wide open, creating a peculiar sensation similar to a slight chill, yet different from the usual experience of feeling cold.
Based on these two dreams, I speculate that in future encounters between extraterrestrial beings and human beings, we may not be able to observe their existence with our naked eyes. Instead, we will have to perceive them through our senses.
The Flat Earth Theory
The Earth is flat, not just based on online opinions, but because I saw it with remote viewing as a flat surface when I was young, and it remains the same now. Based on this fact, the scientific understanding of the planetary orbits in the solar system is entirely wrong. At the very least, the Earth should be stationary, with the Moon and the Sun revolving around it. This aligns with Buddhist cosmology, where the world is described as a space illuminated by the presence of the sun and moon.
Feb 28, 2023: Utilizing remote viewing, I intended to project my consciousness beyond the boundaries of the solar system to observe the trajectories of the planets. However, to my astonishment, what I witnessed was that all celestial bodies within the solar system appeared to be motionless when viewed from outside.
It seems that the concept of time may not exist in a high-dimensional world, but rather in our three-dimensional reality. Another point to consider is that the Earth's ascension would require an acceleration of space-time. From the perspective of the universe, the solar system appears to be stationary due to its overall low vibration frequency.
When I came across Elon Musk's Mars program in the news, I posed a question to my guiding spirit.
Me: Will humans relocate to Mars or the Moon in a thousand years?
Spirit: I am uncertain whether you (humans) will be able to embark on the journey to the next civilization.
Therefore, I have always believed that the preservation of the world's diversity and the continuity of human civilization depend on human inclusivity.

2023.05.27 21:06 PlanktonPowerful2220 Auditing/Advisory jobs in UK - Big4

Hi guys,
I am from Indian subcontinent region. I got an opportunity at a UK small firm to be their finance accounts manager.
To give an intro about myself, I have a BSc in Accounting degree with a first class from a local university and have completed ACCA (UK) and CFA (USA) Level II. Upon completing my Level III, I will probably get the charter since I already have 3 years of experience. I have 6 months of work experience at PwC (in my country) at Associate position. I worked at a BPO previously as an Investment Research support analyst for 2.5 years.
The company hiring me is fine with me switching jobs as soon as I find it there in UK. But I feel its not a good thing to do, so I thought I would stay for an year or two there, and then will try to make a move. But, I am concerned about the hiring process in UK. I would love to move into my preferred field, which is deal advisory / Investment research. But I am ok with moving into audit/tax at any Big4 as well.
  1. My query is how hard is it gonna be for me to get a role at a Big4 in deal advisory or any roles as Investment analyst or valuations analyst there in UK, as I am not a native English speaker and do you guys think, working at a smaller firm for 1 or 2years is gonna have any bad impact?
  2. If I its hard to get into advisory and I choose to go into audit, will I be having any chance given I don't have any previous experience in audit, and do they hire people with qualifications built up and advisory experience into audit as trainees? To add, I will be 26 this year. Is it going to be a problem if I were to start over as a trainee in audit?
Looking forward for some best guidance. Thanks!!

2023.05.27 20:59 KKshilling A meta pattern that I've noticed over the past few years, and I'm going through it right now.

It goes something like this:
The Clarity Phase
Insight strikes and a purpose reveals itself. A vision that I can start to work towards. I have the skills to make it work, all that's left is for me to accept the challenge.
The Intensity Phase
Pure progress is being made. Flow state is almost permanent. The skill set I've acquired is laying the foundation for my business, relationships, level of mind, and quality of life.
The Consistency Phase
I felt pressure to sustain the progress that I had made. This required systemization, prioritization, and sacrifice. It felt like a gradual decline into chaos because massive progress was not being made.
The Lost Phase
I actualized the purpose I had set out for in the clarity phase. My mind filled with doubts about the future. A highly mental and spiritual phase that a majority of people get stuck in if they don't learn how to navigate the dark.
With the book finished, I'm in the lost phase. I have some idea where to go next, but nothing sticks out as "the one."
These phases of feeling lost used to be more destructive, but I've learned to be at peace with them. I hope you can learn to do the same as we dig deeper in this letter.
These phases encapsulate a few principles that will be necessary to understand:
Novel Emergence
After every battle, on any plane of existence, something new emerges.
Atomic nuclei emerges when a star explodes.
Medical advancements emerge after a world war.
Vision for your future emerges after deep internal struggle.
From above to below, this phenomenon reflects on all planes. Cosmic, worldly, cultural, social, personal, mind, body, business, and everything in between.
Struggle is a necessary aspect of life.
Without it, progress would not be made.
Impermanence & Entropy
Nothing lasts forever.
Creation demands destruction.
Every single phase of your life will not last. And the more you attempt to make it permanent, the more mental backlash you will experience.
Don't fight with it, flow with it.
Let's dissect these phases and principles so you can learn to enjoy the lows, maximize the highs, and make more progress than you thought was possible.

The Book Of Life

Uni-verse. One song. That is what you are smack in the middle of. – The Art Of Focus
Life unfolds in chapters and phases.
Books, songs, stories, architecture, bodybuilding, life setup, relationships, mental health, and every other form of human creation reflect this pattern.
Being able to zoom out and see what is happening beyond the thoughts in your head can save you from a world of pain.
It's helpful to know what part of this everlasting book you are in.
That way you can anticipate, prepare for, or cope with what is happening in your personal life.
For each chapter of a book there is a purpose, or goal, that must be actualized.
At the beginning of the chapter, you are acclimating to the environment you are in.
Maybe you moved to a new city and your routines are destroyed in an instant (even if you don't like "routines" your mind does and forms them at every second of the day).
You no longer know what grocery store to shop at, what coffee shop to work at, or even just what the common cross roads are.
The same goes for starting a business, getting into a new relationship, or pursuing a new goal like fitness.
You launch yourself into an unknown environment until it becomes normalized with time.
From that place of decreased stress, you can begin to explore and generate clarity in alignment with the purpose of that chapter in your life.
In the middle of a chapter you have enough experience in that environment to make ample progress.
Everything feels smooth, you reach your "climax," and achieve the goal you set out to achieve.
As the chapter nears its end, you begin to decline into a state of feeling lost.
You don't know what the next chapter holds.
The "lost" phase of life can create or destroy your future.

At One, Not War

There is wisdom in feeling lost.
It means that there is potential to find your way.
But for most people, feeling lost becomes an eternal struggle.
They get consumed by the fog thoughts, emotions, and low-level responsibilities that prevent them from seeing, or creating, a light at the end of the tunnel.
This is dangerous. Very dangerous.
If you only have access to a mental bubble of certain thoughts and solutions, you may never find your way out.
Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence.
Stress is useful to add pressure to a situation and force you to move toward your goals.
The problem is this:
If you don't create your own goals, they will be assigned to you.
That's all society is.
A hierarchy of subjective goals with accompanying systems that have become more efficient with evolution.
By adopting the goals conditioned into your mind since birth, you commit to upholding the machine as a singular cog.
If the only direction in life you know is to go to school, get a job, and retire at an old age, your mind will be narrowed on the stressful tasks associated with that path.
To that individual, money is finite.
The thought of paying the bills every week sparks the same anxiety and conditions that experience into your sense of self.
Just by living, your quality of life is lower than it has to be.
At the end of each chapter in your life, you will inevitably be tossed into the unkown.
The stress will intensify.
When you leave school, what's next?
When you break up with your partner, what's next?
When your job becomes comfortable, do you stay in that spot?
That question, "What's next?" can lead to a black hole of despair.
Or, it can be perceived as your chance to discover new potentials for your life.
Struggle is a Universal principle.
It isn't only happening to you. Humans have been around for a long time. We understand psychology. Everyone goes through these phases.
What many don't understand is that stress is the enemy of discovery.
When your attention is narrowed on stressful entities, your mind will not register potentials in its awareness.
Ideas cannot be collected and culminate into a vision.
You must embrace feeling lost.
Let go.
Surrender.
Don't fight with it, flow with it.
Be at one with it, not at war with it.
And make a conscious effort to expose yourself to experience.
Read a new book. Buy a new course. Meet new people. Have deeper conversations. Watch new content. Journal more. Write more. Hit the gym. Go on a hike. Swim in the environments and information that allow ideas to collect in your subconscious.
Almost everyone gets trapped in this phase.
That would explain the state of society.
You do have to have a sense of paranoia sitting in the back of your mind, like an animal in the jungle.
Stay cerebral.
You're in the fog.
When a ladder rung swings by you, don't miss it because you fear change.

The Intensity Threshold - Navigating The Unknown

In the cyclical story of life, there will be conflict.
It's the most interesting part of the story in fact, but many people don't see it that way in their personal life.
After the conflict is resolved, there is a phenomenon of novel emergence.
In other words, something new comes into being.
On the global scale, wars between nations lead to medical advancements and global progress.
On the personal scale, a war in your mind leads to the emergence of insight, perception, or solution to a problem.
When this happens, you will feel it.
It may take longer than expected.
But when you do find the next direction to take in your life, you enter the clarity phase.
With a solidified and self-generated goal, you must clarify the path to reach that goal.
In most cases, this will require self-education in alignment with the goal.
If you have the vision to start a business, then clearly you will have to learn about business.
But remember, learning without a tangible project to apply your teachings is not learning, it's mental masturbation.
Start with what you know.
Learn along the way.
And when you encounter specific problems, solve them through trial and error.
As you commit to progress in this phase, you will gain new insight.
The "aha!" moment will strike.
Again, this may take longer than expected. Not all chapters are the same length.
This is when you enter the intensity phase, the middle part of a chapter.
In this phase you:
This blur of pure progress usually lasts 1-3 months, more or less.
Then, you hit the intensity threshold.
You exhaust the progress you're allowed to reap from reality with that specific vessel.
You can keep pushing, but you will be disappointed to see that your efforts aren't going as far.
At this point, you must attempt to enter a maintenance phase so you don't drop straight into feeling lost.

Reaching New Baselines

In bodybuilding, there are 3 common phases for sculpting a desirable physique: cutting, bulking, and maintaining.
We can think of cutting as gaining clarity.
You let go of the fat, physical or mental, to reveal what you've built from previous bulking cycles.
We can think of bulking as an intensity phase.
You are in an environment that is conducive to muscle growth, physical or mental, until you reach a point of feeling groggy and demotivated.
In between either bulking or cutting you can enter a maintenance phase.
In bodybuilding, this is where you attempt to maintain a new baseline of muscle mass that you've reached.
In business, you maintain baseline revenue.
In relationships, you maintain a baseline of fulfillment.
In spirituality, you maintain a baseline of happiness.
You do all of the above by creating a system.
In other words, a routine that prioritizes the actions that get the most results.
The goal is to make this a sustainable part of your life.
One that doesn't take too much conscious effort to maintain.
With time, effort, and consciousness of these cyclical phases of life you begin to create a lifestyle that you enjoy.

The Supreme Law

Nothing is permanent.
Feeling lost isn't permanent.
Intense progress isn't permanent.
Even happiness isn't permanent.
These phases of life will come and go, but you can trust that if you seek to understand them year after year, you will get holistic results with time.
If you grasp at any phase and attempt to make it permanent, you will experience chaos.
Don't fight with reality, flow with it.

2023.05.27 20:42 ryryrpm (Follow Up) How to make a Multi-User Kiosk in Intune

This is a follow up to this post: Delete kiosk user on logoff? This was a labor of love and not without its shortcomings. The flow is a wee bit complicated and I am not totally pleased with the solution. In essence, it's not as elegant as I would like it to be. BUT some of that has to do with our computers being co-managed by Intune and SCCM and still hybrid joined to AD / AAD. I think once we are fully cloud managed, something like this will be easier.
Anyway, I hope other people can benefit from what I learned here. Cheers.

The Problem

Logins are too slow at a testing center
Our University Accessibility Center gets an influx of students during finals week needing to take exams. The only have a handful of desktop computers so they usually rent out a laptop cart to accommodate the additional students. There are no ethernet ports in the area so they just use Wi-Fi. Additionally, the building this department is in has very poor network quality, a problem that won't be fixed for a while. Because of this, it takes a very long time for the students to log in to the laptops. This is not ideal and caused the department to use a general login account they had. Our Security team does not like general accounts for obvious reasons so I set out to come up with a better way.

The Goal

Make it faster and more secure
Create a kiosk configuration that satisfied the following requirements:

The easy way you should be able to do this

Use the Intune "Kiosk" config profile template
I was so happy that Intune had templates for this. It makes it super easy! Wow I can just set all my settings with a UI! No clunky Windows Configuration Designer or setting a million Group Policies!
Example of the kiosk config profile template in Intune
Except there is ONE FATAL FLAW with this template: There is no option to allow access to removable drives. It just isn't present here. You could make another config profile that targets the kiosk mode policy CSP that turns on removable drives but then you would have two profiles configuring the same thing and policy conflicts would ensue.
Because of this ONE requirement, and it is an important requirement (exam proctors load test files onto the computer and the student saves the file to the drive and hands it into the proctor when they are done) I had to do everything manually.

The Solution

Use several Intune config profiles, one which sets kiosk mode manually
Because Intune does not let you combine different types of config profiles (kiosk template, settings catalog, administrative templates, imported administrative templates, custom etc.) I needed to use several profiles to target all the things I needed to. For example, Intune has administrative templates already built-in for Chrome and Edge but not for Firefox. So I had to import the ADMX files for Firefox. Those policies cannot be combined with the other profiles. That's why this config looks so disjointed.
Components of this configuration:
For the sake of making this post way too long, I am only going to include the settings for Kiosk - Multi App - Access Center Testing Laptops. The other ones you can figure out / configure how you like as they are really just locking down the browsers and applications. With that said...
Config Profile: Kiosk - Multi App - Access Center Testing Laptops
This profile is of type "Custom". The custom template is used to target CSPs directly. A CSP is a configuration service provider and this serves as the framework for many policies and configurations in Windows machines. Read more here: Configuration Service Provider What's important to note: not every CSP has an associated config profile in Intune. Meaning that it's possible to configure things in Windows that don't have a straightforward template or object in the settings catalog. For this, we can use Custom Intune config profile template. This will let you target a specific CSP with its associated OMA-URI (Open Mobile Alliance URI) and set any values associated with it. Intune will reach out to the computer and apply the config profile in the normal way.
For this profile, I was able to target the Assigned Access CSP which configures everything related to kiosks. Here I was able to set my kiosk the way I wanted with the removable drive setting turned on.
Settings for this profile:
Profile Type: Custom (OMA URI)
Setting #1:

                                                   ]]>
Setting #2:

Setting #2 adds the Kiosk User to the "Guests" group. This way the data in the profile is deleted every time it gets logged off. Thank you to u/arkansas01xj for that suggestion!
The Result:

The main config profile
That's pretty much it! I got distracted when I first started writing this post and had to come back to it so I may have forgotten some stuff. Like I said, I won't lay out every single profile I made so if you have any questions just let me know!

2023.05.27 19:49 Aurelius_Red TIMELINES Ver. 1.9

🐈‍⬛ Another Eden Timelines (ver. 1.9)

I BEG YOU, KIND FELLOW AE FAN, PLEASE DO NOT POST SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTSBy that I mean any plot points or lore beyond the stuff prior to The Goddess of Time content

UPDATE NOTE: This is the final version of the pre-2.0 update, which I'm told will turn my mind to mush. Here, numerous grammar corrections can be found, and I deleted some unnecessary snark.
In version 1.9, I so far have the lore and events from The Cat Beyond Time and Space (ver. 1.0), The Ogre Wars, Episode: The Celestial Tower and the Shadow Witch (lore only as it pertains to Palsifal and Cyrus) and the necessary Episode: The Closed-off Open World and the Azure Rebel.
I have not included the other necessary Episode Two Knights and the Holy Sword since it doesn't seem important to the Main story. (Sorry, Deirdre and Annabel, but brief cameos in The Ogre Wars don't count for much.) If it ends up being important to ver. 2.0's plot, I'll add it in the next update. Episodes like the IDA ones and the Ocean Palace stuff have been omitted for similar reasons. Again, if they turn out to be important, I'll add them.
Well, enjoy.

[NOTE: Sorik's time-hopping may well have not have been part of the original timeline. But even so, I can't see how the subsequent timelines would have been spawned without Sorik/Kyros ending up in the final portal.]

————— NEW Timeline —————

The events prior to player control follow. I will clearly mark when the player's journey begins.

FIRST CUTSCENE:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
{GAMEPLAY BEGINS}
This is the updated timeline, which is to say the series of events from the perspective of Aldo, time-hopping as he does. In other words, from here on, I’m writing about the sequence of events that follows the game’s events as one plays through them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Part 1: The Cat Beyond Time and Space

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
…800 years later….
[Side note: Amy, while speaking of her late mother inside Sebastia’s house, says that someday she’d help bring an end to suffering in the world, thereby creating, quote, “another Eden.” We’re meant to take that as the origin of the game’s title. But it is actually a red herring, as Aldo is revealed to be a clone of his former friend Eden, and therefore in a literal sense “Another Eden.”]
…in Antiquity….
…in the Spacetime Rift….
…in the Present….
…in the Future….
…in Antiquity….
…in the Future….
…in Antiquity….
…in the Present….
…in Antiquity….
So ends the first part of the game, Version 1.0, The Cat Beyond Time and Space.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~ OGRE WARS (ver. 1.5)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
…in Antiquity….
…in the Future….
…in the Present...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~ EPISODE: The Closed-off Open World and the Azure Rebel (ver. 1.9)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[NOTE: There are other Episodes up until this point, of course, but I don't believe any besides this one and parts of the Celestial Tower one - so far - are integral to understanding the Main Story. If that turns out to be untrue and Part 2 of the Main Story requires knowledge of one or more of the other Episodes, I'll add them in at some point.]
...in the Future...
