Tanaka haikyuu

Hello all and welcome to the continuation of my series where I use stats and my background playing high level volleyball and coaching to break down a players performance in the series. It has been 4 months since the last post. Sorry :(. Here are all of them in case you wanna go back through the series:

Today is extra special, we are doing the best libero in the series, Yaku Morisuke in his game against Karasuno at nationals. As usual, we start off with the stats. Now Yaku is a libero, so I don't expect I'll have too much to say. The real meat of this post is coming from the highlights and player breakdown. Keep in mind I'm human and may make statting mistakes.

• Digs: 21- This is absolutely outrageous. This averages out to 7 digs per set. An elite libero will average around 3 digs per set on a collegiate level for a season, so this is an intense game. Not to mention this game cuts out a good chunk of points and doesn't show the receive sometimes, so this number could have been even more.
• Serve Receive- 3.0 on 2 attempts. He got 2 perfect passes. No wonder they didn't serve him more.

And that is literally all of the stats. He's not a libero who sets so no assists, and he didn't luck into any freeball kills so this is what we have to work with. Now that we have some numbers, lets look into the specifics of some highlight plays. First things first, he had 12 diving digs/saves, where he dove to dig or save a wild ball. Yaku's agility is often called worse than Nishinoya's but I'd argue even though he doesn't have the same lateral quickness, his ability to sprawl out to make the save or incredible dig is on par with Noya's. This combined with his ability to read hitters makes Yaku a true force of nature on the court even as a libero. Some examples of his ability to read hitters lies a lot on his placement on the court when hitters swing. You see a lot of times Yaku will seem to just get hit with the ball over and over again. This is because of his ability to read a hitter and position himself exactly where that hitter is going to hit. This is the single most important quality in a libero, and Yaku does it at a higher level than anyone in the series. It's this ability that lets him dig Hinata's freak quick, dig hitters even behind and incomplete block, meaning their course is less limited, and dig Tanaka's super sharp 4 to 4 cross. It's this super sharp cross dig I'm going to dive into in a biiit more detail. Nekoma as a team runs a defensive system where the players cross eachothers paths when defending, one taking a step laterally and short to take short balls and the other taking the lateral step and taking the deep hit ball. This is pretty common irl and in Haikyuu, but it takes a lot of practice to truly master. On a 4 to 4 hit like Tanaka's, the off blocker, the outside, takes the short ball while the libero takes the deeper harder driven ball more near the sideline, in the system Nekoma runs. So to make this incredible diving dig that Yaku makes, he not only had to read Tanaka in time to make the dig, he had to gauge whether Yamamoto was going to touch the ball on the way by, AND be aware that the ball might spray out. With all of this taken into account, he is able to read the ball perfectly and make the dig all in a split second. This ability is also shown behind blocks. As we all know, Nekoma uses funneling to force hitters into hitting the ball at their libero pretty often. But even when that gameplan isn't in place, Yaku is able to create that exact same situation for himself. At the same time he reads the hitter, in this play it was Hinata on a high 2 ball down the middle, he is reading his own teams block. While he does this, he sees that there is a small gap the hitter could hit through in his teams block. He fills the space left open by that gap and cupcakes Hinata's hit perfectly. He CREATED the funnel. No blockers assisting him, no gameplan in place, just Yaku being an intelligent libero. He is also able to read hitters on a synchro attack, where the blocker is late, meaning the hitter has a huge course they can hit and it's all up to Yaku to read it. He does it repeatedly. THIS is what makes Yaku the best libero in the series. This incredible decision making, this quick thought process and the reflexes to back it up.

Now we have to mention him repeatedly digging Asahi, Karasuno's ace, throughout this ENTIRE game. Asahi's sheer power does cause a lot of these to be overpasses, but stopping an ace is stopping an ace, and Yaku does it over and over. He is the only player we see whose simple presence on the court can force an error. After digging Asahi twice in a row in a long rally, the next play comes through where Asahi gets the set and we see the image of Yaku in the perfect position to dig him. We see Asahi change his course last second and try to hit line only for the ball to land out. Yaku's presence on the court caused that. Hitters are actively trying to avoid him so much that he causes errors. As Bokuto says: “Yaku Morisuke is a man who can kill a spiker without even touching the ball.” This quality of Yaku's places him on another level for me defensively.

In the end, Yaku is just so good. I could not gush more about how good this man is. He is the ideal libero, he's a player whose impact rivals that of even some of the top aces in the series. The best defender in all of Haikyuu by far and any coach in the world would kill to have him. Best libero.

(For future reference — I am bisexual and genderfluid (born female, he/him preferred), and LGBTQ+/queer references will constantly show up in my writing. It's how I express myself, and it's also how I find comfort. My writing caters exclusively towards male characters and any characters who falls under the non-binary/transmasc umbrella.)
I am very confident in my skills and ability. I have:

• 8 to 9 years of writing experience
• an extensive vocabulary
• a wide variety of fandoms + characters
• creativity to an extent (I love cliches)

I have always harbored an adoration for story - driven media (of all types). Video games, comic books, movies, series, etc. I love everything and anything there is to offer with fictional worlds and characters. You could say It's a special interest of sorts (I think).
I especially like media written for queer relationships and romances (as already implied), and if the media isn’t already queer then I’ll simply make it queer (because there is never a good story that’s inherently straight). I won’t sugar coat it: I am a terrible gay, and I enjoy terrible things. I am looking for someone who can share this sentiment in a roleplay with me. Almost all plots that I am looking for are either entirely, or centered around, some sort of dramatic (because who doesn’t like gay suffering?).
The dramatics in particular being;

• Grief
• Heartbreak
• Yearning
• Affairs
• Dysphoria
• Mental illness and Anguish (and etc.)

It gets worse, but it’s worth it all for the sake of ‘character development’ and entertainment. Things get boring real fast without them, in my opinion at least. I should mention that I’m very big on the ‘mental illness aspect’ - I love writing fowith characters that are really going through it in their heads.
And don’t get me wrong! I am more than willing to do a roleplay that’s just pure fluff and joy! I just really like adding in that ‘spice’!
After this point, I don’t really think there is much else to elaborate/speak about regarding the writing. Unhealthy dynamics and sad stuff is kind of my thing, you know? Again (probably), I’m not saying that these things have to be the entire point of the roleplay, despite how I may sound. I’m just saying that these have to be core parts of it.

(FP) Coeur. [Y], a talented figure skater who had quit the sport after experiencing a violent trauma, returns to their hometown after hearing some surprising news about a childhood friend. (just a cute yuri on ice plot)
(FP) Going under. [Y], the bored and spoiled product of a nobleman, decides to accompany a man who carries swords and his funny little stretchy friend in order to rescue their beloved cat from a viscous king overseas. (one piece)

• You don’t have to write as much as me (2 huge paragraphs or 3 standard paragraphs are fine).

I have always harbored an adoration for story - driven media (of all types). Video games, comic books, movies, series, etc. I love everything and anything there is to offer with fictional worlds and characters. You could say It's a special interest of sorts (I think).
I especially like media written for queer relationships and romances (as already implied), and if the media isn’t already queer then I’ll simply make it queer (because there is never a good story that’s inherently straight). I won’t sugar coat it: I am a terrible gay, and I enjoy terrible things. I am looking for someone who can share this sentiment in a roleplay with me. Almost all plots that I am looking for are either entirely, or centered around, some sort of dramatic (because who doesn’t like gay suffering?).
The dramatics in particular being;

• Grief
• Heartbreak
• Yearning
• Affairs
• Dysphoria
• Mental illness and Anguish (and etc.)

It gets worse, but it’s worth it all for the sake of ‘character development’ and entertainment. Things get boring real fast without them, in my opinion at least. I should mention that I’m very big on the ‘mental illness aspect’ - I love writing fowith characters that are really going through it in their heads.
And don’t get me wrong! I am more than willing to do a roleplay that’s just pure fluff and joy! I just really like adding in that ‘spice’!
After this point, I don’t really think there is much else to elaborate/speak about regarding the writing. Unhealthy dynamics and sad stuff is kind of my thing, you know? Again (probably), I’m not saying that these things have to be the entire point of the roleplay, despite how I may sound. I’m just saying that these have to be core parts of it.

[Y], a talented young cellist suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, tries to come to terms with the grizzly death of their adoptive mother (despite the extremely strained relationship they had), and the potentially supernatural events they experience after it. (FP) Coeur. [Y], a talented figure skater who had quit the sport after experiencing a violent trauma, returns to their hometown after hearing some surprising news about a childhood friend. (just a cute yuri on ice plot)
(FP) Going under. [Y], the bored and spoiled product of a nobleman, decides to accompany a man who carries swords and his funny little stretchy friend in order to rescue their beloved cat from a viscous king overseas. (one piece)
(FP) The noble. A stunning, young, noble lives a second life as a gruesome serial killer with the assistance of their faithful Butler (Sebastian) and their courtier (Grelle). (Black Butler)
(FP/OG) Less than human. Following the violent death of their lover, an ex - special forces soldier with an unusual imagination (paranoid schizophrenia) embarks on an odyssey into the depths of depravity. (COD)
(FP) It’s a Bluey comfort rp :(. A physical therapist forms a bond with their patient and his children. (Bluey yaaaay)

I first heard about Blue Lock a few years ago. I remember watching a TikTok video saying “This might be the next big sports manga.” And then I put it off because I’m not a big fan of betrayals. I guess it was around second selection.
Last year I heard there would be an anime adaptation of it and I decided “Why not?” and to watch it when it would come out. Then I forgot about it again. So two episodes had already aired when I found it. So I watched them. And then binged the manga over three days (I think, might be shorter time too). I didn’t get spoiled anything at all since I didn’t interact with the fandom until I had completed the manga. :)
I know Sports anime have a tendency to be fruity, but this time I decided that I wouldn’t put any expectations on it. (Honestly the best way to enjoy something for me) So the first chapters were not very fruity. Like Bachira said “I like you” but that could be interpreted as platonic. When Nagi and Reo showed up I was like “Ah this is the ‘fruity relationship’(TM) of this show” and had to look twice when Reo said “I want to make him mine”. But still… that could be considered just an obsession by non-shippers. (They got even more sus in the second selection)
During the second and third selection, Reonagi felt like they were the only ones who were remotely fruity in afterthought. (I didn’t even bat an eye at Rinsagi and Nagisagi, or side characters like Karasu.) Even Nanase felt more fruity. (Because he talked about “it feels fruity” so I noticed that)
Then we got to the U-20 arc. Oh boy. Sae calling Shidou “His demon” or something. AND THEN SHIDOU ASKED FOR HIS FRIGGIN NUMBER AND TOLD HIM HE’S FALLING IN LOVE AND SAYING THE MOST EXPLICIT THINGS. I was literally staring at the pages like: “Huh?” And then it was like: “These bitches are fucking gay.” So from then on I felt like this could actually be somewhat canonically queer, but of course I still don’t really have any expectations (Not even Haikyuu!! has a canonical kiss between any characters, not even canon ones like Kyoko and Tanaka.)
Then… chapter 157 (that lives rent free in my head)… I did not expect that. The chapters leading to that hadn’t been very relationship focused so I wasn’t expecting someone to JUST RIZZ UP THE MAIN CHARACTER. A chin grab and an air kabedon. Pretty sure that if I had been drinking something at that moment I would have spat it out like in those over-exaggerated animations. (Origins of how I became a Kaisagi shipper lol) and well, after that I joined Blue Lock Reddit. Great! (Surprised that there were so little shipping content and how the few posts got slandered despite the sheer amount of gay stuff in Blue Lock, but after a while it seemed like most people are just simps for the characters, including the guys.)
So despite starting this with the intension of “not making it gay(er than it is)”… Shidou alone is gayer than the whole cast of Haikyuu!! combined. 😃 so that didn’t work! Not that I’m complaining really, I was just surprised by the sheer amount of clearly gay things they were saying.
Then I have reread the whole thing a few times, noticing more things and gotten more invested in the shipping, but I still feel like my thoughts when I first read it says the most about who I am. :)

My writing usually caters exclusively towards male characters and any characters who falls under the non-binary/transmasc umbrella.. but I'm willing to write against female characters, if that's what you'd REALLY like. I have always harbored an adoration for story - driven media (of all types). Video games, comic books, movies, series, etc. I love everything and anything there is to offer with fictional worlds and characters. You could say It's a special interest of sorts (I think).
I especially like media written for queer relationships and romances (as already implied), and if the media isn’t already queer then I’ll simply make it queer (because there is never a good story that’s inherently straight). I won’t sugar coat it: I am a terrible gay, and I enjoy terrible things. I am looking for someone who can share this sentiment in a roleplay with me. Almost all plots that I am looking for are either entirely, or centered around, some sort of dramatic (because who doesn’t like gay suffering?).
The dramatics in particular being;

• I am able to work with the many different genres of writing, but my prefered/go - to writing genres are horror (second fav), angst (fav fav), romance (third fav), and, occasionally, dystopian (but dystopian can very much be anything mixed into one, so it doesn't count).

• It doesn’t matter if you ship it or not, Venom/Eddie is literally canon so your character is gonna be in a polycule whether you like it or NOT (I will not negotiate on this, I will die for Venom/Eddie)

• You don’t have to write as much as me (2 huge paragraphs or 3 standard paragraphs are fine).

I have always harbored an adoration for story - driven media (of all types). Video games, comic books, movies, series, etc. I love everything and anything there is to offer with fictional worlds and characters. You could say It's a special interest of sorts (I think).
I especially like media written for queer relationships and romances (as already implied), and if the media isn’t already queer then I’ll simply make it queer (because there is never a good story that’s inherently straight). I won’t sugar coat it: I am a terrible gay, and I enjoy terrible things. I am looking for someone who can share this sentiment in a roleplay with me. Almost all plots that I am looking for are either entirely, or centered around, some sort of dramatic (because who doesn’t like gay suffering?).
The dramatics in particular being;

• Grief
• Heartbreak
• Yearning
• Affairs
• Dysphoria
• Mental illness and Anguish (and etc.)

It gets worse, but it’s worth it all for the sake of ‘character development’ and entertainment. Things get boring real fast without them, in my opinion at least. I should mention that I’m very big on the ‘mental illness aspect’ - I love writing fowith characters that are really going through it in their heads. And don’t get me wrong! I am more than willing to do a roleplay that’s just pure fluff and joy! I just really like adding in that ‘spice’!

Just discovered this subreddit, albeit I haven’t been on Reddit as much as I used to be, I’m excited to share some of my collection once I have cleared room for my other figures that have been sitting in boxes.

So I reread haikyuu in its entirety because I wanted to see what got me hooked just from the first chapter. So the first time going into haikyuu blindly I was thinking that it’d just be another sports anime with some unrealistic power thing that kuroko no basket has (great series btw) but I was completely wrong, reading the first chapter I was hooked I loved that they established a rivalry between the two mc’s and then having Kageyama become Hinata’s teammate I was completely flabbergasted😭 introducing us to the rest of the team tanaka, Daichi and suga having all of them kinda play into the big brothers and wild cousin role kinda and later on introducing us to Asahi and noya. What haikyuu does really well is kinda balancing out they’re characters I had minor issues with some characters mainly Bokuto even though he’s on of my favorite character he definitely felt like dumbed down I was kinda disappointed because he’s a top 5 ace really skilled and talented and they just kinda played him out to be more of the comic relief whenever he’s on screen ofc he has his chilling and serious moments and I know that’s just his personality but I would’ve loved to see a more serious Bokuto. But furudate definitely did well with character backstories,development and depth for example if you read the manga Tsukishima had one of the best developments in the manga same with a few others and the depth in characters that he goes into like oikawa and tanaka seriously chefs kiss. Now into the matches going into haikyuu I didn’t think that the matches would be to entertaining but man was I wrong whether your reading or watching haikyuu we can all agree that the matches are so entertaining and well written and drawn some matches kinda feel drawn out but that’s really towards like the beginning of haikyuu. I could’ve talked about this more but it would’ve been wayyyy to long and plus they’re are youtubers who definitely explain this way better then me but haikyuu is great I wish I could go back 3 years and reread the series it’s honestly what got me into volleyball my 8th grade year now I play club and high school volleyball I’ve gotten a few college camp invites and talked to coaches from d2 and d3 colleges who’ve taken interest to me I really do have so much love and passion for this sport so I’m truly grateful for haikyuu hope this wasn’t to long😭.

Reading haikyuu has been a great experience through and through but one thing I always felt like they could’ve handled better was the time skip. Don’t get me wrong I love the time skip arc and stuff but I would’ve loved to see how the new 2nd years (shoyo, Kageyama etc) and the new 3rd years(tanaka, noya etc)would’ve interacted with the incoming 1st years and also what teams have grown like johzenji and wakutani and stuff yk?
