I relapsed over a videogame, and i feel so pathetic and worthless over it. In all my 15 years of life, never have I EVER gotted frustrated at a videogame, i have never raged at anything in them whatsoever. I was literally playing a Pokemon game. POKEMON. Shining Pearl to be exact. I used repels, kept encountering wild pokemon, right after spending an hour resetting over Mespirit to catch it, nothing. I felt anger for once at a videogame. I can't believe it. Over a videogame. I feel worthless. I am only even venting to reddit about this because i feel so disconnected from my friends now, i haven't spoken to a single one in at least a week, and school ended not too long ago for summer. I feel like the worst human being ever. I have nobody to tell about this, except reddit, i just need to get this out, man. And if i put the wrong NSFW spoiler tag or whatnot on it, i apologize.

2023.06.03 00:37 CrystalElemental EBE Lucas and Dawn Clear (No Limited Pairs)

I've seen a couple posts about the Lucas and Dawn extreme battle, and how to clear it without Adaman or Irida. I wanted to share my own clears, without them or any other limited pairs. I want to get this out of the way early though: they are high investment; the 5*s used are 3/5 and EX. They're not all necessary, but I want to be up front about that.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to record video of the game, so it's all in text. I'll outline what I use for grid, and a rough play by play of critical actions and events. I have the images as proof of clear, if anyone needed those (see comments). Also a good alternative to Dawn has already been shared if this one doesn't work out. Every other Lucas clear I've seen involved limited pairs, so this is really more for the Lucas situation.
VS LUCAS The team I used is as follows:

Play-by-Play:
  1. Turn order should go Lucian Growl, Dawn X Def All, then Aaron using Attack Order. Aaron needs to flinch here, then queue a trainer move before they act. It's easier than it sounds.
  2. Following this, Aaron wants to use trainer move twice, and take first sync. Lucian spams Growl until Kabutops' first Liquidation, after which use Trainer Move; you'll want the gradual healing or he can get KO'd (essential if non-EX). Dawn spams X Def All until capped or out of MPR. Note: Dawn DOES NOT NEED to proc MPR. Once Def is done, spam Seed Bomb on the left side.
  3. Lucian continues Growl, Aaron should finish buffing, and at this point Aaron is likely low on HP due to the Liquidation. Dawn should Full Restore on him. Dawn takes second sync on Kabutops, Aaron should aim for a flinch on the right side if possible, queueing Defend Order. If you hit it, you get another full round of actions, which is ideal. Dawn's Seed Bomb should continue on the left, until it's low on HP.
  4. Following Lucas' sync, Aaron should use Heal Order. If Lucian died, legitimately just pack it up. If you're not EX, and he keeps dying, proc Heal Order instead of Defend after the flinch, Lucian will survive and Aaron should be fine. Lucian wants to start Growling to remove the X Atk All that Lucas activates, or Dawn's sync gets substantially weaker.
  5. KO left side as it queues a move, then focus Dawn's offensive pressure on the right. Aaron should aim for another Attack Order flinch on Lucas at this point. When Dawn hits third sync, hit center. He'll likely survive, but we're in the home stretch.
  6. This is a moment of truth. If Aaron did not hit flinch against Liquidation in Step 5, attempt to flinch the right side, then center. Lucas will use Mega Kick. Aaron can tank it, but it's rough. If you had to use Heal Order before sync in 4 to keep Lucian alive, I imagine Mega Kick is a straight KO. Dawn should prioritize taking out whoever didn't flinch. If both flinched, take down the right; Muddy Water is rough due to -2 accuracy. If she reaches final sync, take out whatever's left.
It's possible, if reliant on flinch. I also recognize it's a lot to ask for all EX options, but this one was really tough.
VS DAWN I used this team:

Play-by-play:
  1. Dawn uses two X Def All, then her trainer move on herself. Two special moves will hurt, she'll die to Wood Hammer if you don't heal. Lucian just spams Growl like his life depends on it, because it does. Candice uses Hail immediately, then two trainer moves. If she dodges the first AoE attack, you are in business. Otherwise, it's not run-ruining.
  2. Dawn takes first sync. Lucian can continue to Growl. Damage in this fight is surprisingly low when Sandstorm isn't up, so the Gradual Healing is less immediately essential. Candice sets up Dire Hit+, then spams Blizzard. If Candice doesn't dodge the second AoE move, I'm pretty sure it's a reset, she'll die to sync. When the foe is at -6 Attack, have Lucian use X Sp Atk until sync is ready. When enemy sync is queued up, immediately have Candice set to re-apply Hail.
  3. Enemy Dawn will get to sync before you hit second, everyone should survive. Lucian takes second sync, aiming at enemy Dawn. Candice should spam Blizzard, and should be able to take out sides just as the right is queueing up a move. Lucian, who should not need Growl, should set up X Sp Atk and his trainer moves to be ready for the next sync.
  4. Tragedy will almost certainly strike. Enemy Dawn now has Sure Hit/Sure Crit, and Candice will be KO'd.
  5. By this point though, Dawn should easily survive until the finish line. Once Lucian reaches sync, it's over.
This was a lot more consistent, and a low lower investment, than the Lucas fight.

I have had auto-updates turned off for a while now, and I'm still on 1.1.1, and so I am taking a bit of a risk. Here are my findings thus far. Please keep in mind, I can't test every claim. Oh, and, I have the physical copy, in case that matters.
  1. Some have claimed on YouTube comments, other reddit threads, etc, that playing a different game, and then going back to TotK, forced an update on the game despite having auto-update turned off. This is false. I took the risk, and played another game for a few minutes. Went back to TotK, and as usual, I was able to select "Start Software," thus remaining on v1.1.1! I'm guessing those individuals unfortunately selected "Download" by mistake, or simply didn't notice "Start Software." It's in an odd location compared to the "Download" and "Cancel" options, so I can't entirely blame them if they missed it. I DID switch over to a digital game first, so I decided to try playing a different physical game as well. Same result. Playing a different game DOES NOT FORCE UPDATES.
  2. I thought that maybe the issue involved updating a different game. Like, if updating one game will force updates on others. I haven't touched Pokemon Violet in a while, and an update was available, so I downloaded it. I can still select "Start Software" when I boot up TotK. Updating a different game also DOES NOT FORCE UPDATES.
  3. Usually, my Switch stays in sleep mode, so I shut off my Switch entirely, to see if booting it back up would force a game update. Nope. Turning off your Switch and then turning it back on DOES NOT FORCE UPDATES.
  4. Someone on another thread claimed that their game crashed, and then an update was forced upon them. I can't easily test this, though I doubt it's true, unless Nintendo has some sort of fail-safe in place, in which a crashed game will auto-update if one is available, in case said update prevents crashing in the future. This seems unlikely. A more likely scenario: The user downloaded the update, but didn't install, and then the game eventually crashed. As a result, the update installed. I never experienced a crash, and played over 140 hours(though this is a biiiiit inflated due to leaving the game running while I went and did other things-- unintentionally) so I don't see a game crash happening anytime soon.
  5. I recall someone in another thread claiming that updating their Switch forced the update. My Switch is on the latest firmware version so I can't test this, at least, not yet. Though I also doubt this claim. While it is POSSIBLE, it would be an EXTREMELY scummy move by Nintendo, and they would only bother to do so if they had a REALLY good reason to force game updates with a new Switch firmware version. The individual also claimed that they can no longer turn off auto-updates at all, saying that the setting is gone. Either they don't know where the setting is and couldn't find it, or they're just lying.
In summation, everything I tested had the same result. As long as you have auto-updates turned off, you can select "Start Software" to avoid updating the game. Playing a different game, updating a different game, or turning off your Switch will NOT FORCE UPDATES. Do take care to not double press A when selecting the game as you would end up selecting "Download." Just be careful and aware of what you are doing, and you'll have nothing to worry about. Happy duping/Fake Master Sword-ing!
If you have any other ideas as to what I should test out, please let me know! I want to get to the bottom of this so the TotK glitch fans/speedrunners will be able to play on earlier versions without any concern! Because that's what the claims have done. Cause concern. I want to fix that.
NOTE: If you already DOWNLOADED the game update, turning off auto-update will not stop INSTALLATION. The update will fully install on its own after you close out of the game.

I don't have time to properly farm my 6 islands, and I would like to rent them all out to someone “permanently.” That is, I’d like to make you co-owner of all 6 of them, collect a weekly payment from a refinery building on one of them, and otherwise just forget about them. If I ever quit the game, you are welcome to just keep using them for free.
My starting request is 840,000 silver per week, which works out to 20k per island per day. However, I will wait ~36 hours, and then close the deal with whoever has made the highest offer at exactly 11:00 PM Pacific Time on Saturday, June 3. If several offers come in at the last second, I’ll check my message notification time stamps. Or, if anyone would like to instantly claim all of them for 2,250,000 silver per week (53.57k per island per day), then I can confirm immediately, make the transfer, and edit this post to say the offer is now closed.
