penguinz0 aka Moistcr1tikal has recently been at the center of a discussion around hypocrisy and advertising adult content to a young audience. Today he released a video supposedly addressing the hypocrisy that I want to pick apart a little here along with the entire situation, since it seems he's taking the position that he's still in the total right when some hypocritical statements were still glaringly obvious to me, even in the video addressing everything.
Initially, a video made by YouTuber MuKitty highlighted the fact that penguinz0 recently called out former Twitch, currently Kick streamer Adin Ross for pulling up a pornographic site to his audience, labeling it a "fucking creepy and weird thing to do" in a YouTube video dedicated to that situation yet said nothing to denounce an adult site advertisement upon watching The Streamer Awards 2023 livestream. Getting into this comparison is an entire can of worms, as Kick's Terms of Service specify only those 18 and above are allowed to even use the site whereas Twitch has always been intended for audiences 13 and up according to its Terms of Service. Especially when seeing that The Streamer Awards was unrestricted, therefore intended to reach the entirety of Twitch's 13+ intended audience, penguinz0 writing the comparison off as being in "bad faith" implies he simply had nothing substantial to say against it that didn't blatantly double-down on any potential hypocrisy.
penguinz0's response to MuKitty seemed to begin on his Twitch stream yesterday, where he briefly addresses the video yet doesn't watch it on stream as far as I was able to see.His first contention is that the "zoomer edits" style of the video leads to every argument made in the video being illegitimate. This is a moot point and seems to simply be a way to attempt to discredit MuKitty before talking about anything related to the actual video and ensure his audience remains on his side, which he does a number of times.
Getting into the actual arguments, he tries to counter the video in an indirect way by simply talking about the video instead of reacting to it on stream, and his first counter argument is that Adin Ross pulling up an adult site isn't comparable to promoting adult sites on a Twitch stream due to the differing accessibility of the two. He says the Fansly ad is different because you "have to go out of your way to access it", completely disregarding the fact that you also have to go out of your way to sign up for a Kick account that says you need to be 18 and older to create and verify you're 18 before watching any restricted content.If penguinz0 is that much against "legitimate porn" being shown on a site that directs only those 18 and up to use, he should be taking up arms against the entire adult site industry where many only direct you to hit a single button upon pulling the site up, and many don't even have that. My favorite part of this stream reaction is the line where he says,

"One of them is immediately porn in their face, the other one is they have to go sign up and then say they're 18 years or older to access the porn."

This is exactly what you have to do to sign up for Kick and to watch any restricted content. He calls the whole thing "bad faith and not even comparable" because he isn't properly comparing the two and ignoring the steps you need to go through to access these streams on Kick to begin with. He also compares this to the hot tub category of Twitch streaming GoDaddy commercials, and strip club billboards, which I'll get into a bit later.
Further into this stream reaction, he makes more attempts to discredit Mukitty's video, and in turn every argument in it and every audience member's reaction to the arguments in it. He even says at one point,

"I thought it was all supposed to be ironic, but I guess that didn't make it to the audience."

This is another attempt to discredit any criticism that's been directed towards him as misguided, bad faith arguments stemmed from the lack of knowledge critics have in comparison to penguinz0 and his ability to flawlessly distinguish legitimate arguments from illegitimate ones based solely on his own personal judgement with no logical reasoning whatsoever. He also briefly talks about the fact that Mukitty's channel was recently demonetized and says it's obvious because of all the copyrighted music, yet as far as I'm able to tell there was no copyrighted music anywhere in the video; and even then, it wouldn't explain the entire channel being demonetized as opposed to just the video itself being struck down and claimed. But that issue is beside the point.
Now to the big double-down, the video posted by penguinz0 on his YouTube channel titled "Hypocrisy". He begins the video with giving a quick rundown of the entire situation, giving context on The Streamer Awards and his reaction to it live where he only laughs a bit and says nothing about the sponsorship. Immediately following this he reinforces the idea that Mukitty's comparison of how he reacted to Adin Ross versus the Fansly sponsorship was supposed to be satire and not taken seriously; further proving he's done no further research on the steps required to access an 18+ stream on Kick. He does later concede that it is much easier to access adult content from Fansly than he originally thought, but he quickly glosses over the point entirely. The major issue I have with this entire video is the deceptive nature of his response.
penguinz0 makes the big bombshell reveal that he said "both are bad" on a Twitch stream just yesterday, and somehow ties this into the ongoing criticism that's been emerging following MuKitty's video released over a week ago now. He, again, tries to take the moral and intellectual high ground in saying,
"The majority of the people didn't even watch the full statement. Which isn't her fault, and I even don't blame the audience, because right now the human race is being plagued by brainrot parasite short-form content which has ruined the attention span of people; so I don't necessarily find it shocking that they didn't watch all 10 minutes of what I was saying."
penguinz0 attempting to discredit all criticism directed at him over the past week by saying those critics didn't see what he calls "10 minutes" of a full statement just yesterday is one of the most illogical things I've heard come out of his mouth yet, and that's saying a lot. He even graces the audience with his "proof" that he did in fact call them both bad in the video, which is a mere 7-second beat-around-the-bush quote where he says,

"Of course, advertising Fansly, OnlyFans or anything in front of an audience that has younger children on it, it's always gonna be not a great decision. It's one of those things, yeah."

While making a statement after being called out does help in clarifying your side of things, it does not somehow retroactively dismiss previous criticism that penguinz0 didn't say anything about it at the time of The Streamer Awards airing, and even seemed to find the advertisement amusing. Whether the later statement was made out of a desire to clarify their position or out of disdain for being labelled a hypocrite is irrelevant and does nothing to dispute that, at the time, he apparently had no major issue with the advertisement or sponsorship. I'll even argue that it doesn't matter how many safeguards he thought were in place on Fansly at the time, since the advertisement directly states that the audience's "favorite streamers" are making adult content and the Twitch stream was unrestricted, meaning it was intended for even their younger audiences; whereas Adin Ross's stream was at least restricted to 18+, as is the streaming platform in general.
Further into the video, after more shots at MuKitty in both her arguments via video and attitude towards penguinz0 in general (where he, for example, claims she doesn't like his content, is upset with him directly as if the video was entirely centered around him, and that his impression was that her content was never meant to be taken with any level of seriousness at all), penguinz0 dips back into the idea that the advertisement itself was more tame than content you can already access on Twitch (referencing hot tub streams in particular), criticizing the argument that the sponsorship and advertisement is harmful to an underage audience in the sense that it exposes them to adult content. Elaborating, the argument is made that even upon entering the site Fansly, there are "degrees of separation" between going on the site and seeing any explicit content.What's failed to be mentioned here is that the exact same case can be made for first going onto the site Kick, then going onto the Adin Ross stream and verifying you're 18 or older before seeing anything potentially explicit. penguinz0 appears to be falsely asserting that the streaming platform Kick is a direct link to Adin Ross and, upon entering the site at all, you'll be immediately thrust into an 18+ restricted stream and subject to potentially adult material. For someone who's entire counter argument has relied on proving false equivalence, this is going way beyond shooting yourself in the foot and more like taking a grenade straight to the shin. The only thing more painful than the arguments themselves is the clear lack of self-awareness in making the exact same argument that can be used to contradict your own.
The rest of the video is penguinz0 further attempting to deflect the conversation off his hypocrisy and onto things like hot tub streams on Twitch, strip club billboards and provocative GoDaddy television commercials. The argument is presented that the discussion currently is similar enough to discussions that've been made previously about those other issues that it somehow invalidates any discussion on penguinz0 specifically expressing hypocrisy in who to call out and who to remain silent on. The video basically ends on a double-down, with penguinz0 saying,

"In closing, I feel like there is no real, good faith argument to be made I'm hypocritical because I called Adin Ross pulling up PornHub weird and didn't immediately start calling out how weird it was for Fansly to be a sponsor of The Streamer Awards."

I will also close my arguments with the fact that a short response was only given due to his own Twitch chat constantly messaging him live about the hypocrisy, only to lead to a YouTube video centered around him having an issue with being called a hypocrite rather than actually addressing the problem with an adult site sponsoring an unrestricted Twitch stream hosted by the biggest names in Twitch, hosting every content creator they could get their hands on for the event.An Adin Ross restricted stream that verified viewers were 18+ before entering, peaking at I believe 85,000 viewers based on articles I've read versus an unrestricted event hosted by the faces of Twitch that averaged 426,000 viewers and peaked at 580,000 according to escharts. Also keep in mind the only times he's denounced the sponsorship at all is when he says, "both are bad" generally and when he does mention The Streamer Awards on its own the only phrasing is stuff like, "not great", very much tip-toeing around calling it out as a bad decision on its own.
The only conclusion I can come to is that penguinz0 is still holding a hypocritical position.
