This subreddit will be joining in on the June 12th-14th protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps.

How did this start

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader. This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
This post offers a high level explanation of the initial issues. If you want to rabbit-hole even further, this post has in-depth dates and numbers.

Then what happened?

After the initial news, Reddit’s responses to both users and also at least one 3rd Party App developer were perhaps more concerning than the initial decisions and their communication.
As a mod that indexes heavily on transparency, I am personally quite concerned by testable falsehoods being promoted by Reddit leadership, captured here in a post by the developer of the popular 3rd Party App Apollo.
Let’s get meta: Reddit’s business model relies heavily on community input - both mods and also users to some extent effectively donate part of their lives to the communities they feel a part of, which creates an attention magnet that Reddit monetizes through ads. As part of that tradeoff, we’ve all accepted the necessarily evil of seeing ads and occasionally getting shafted by brusque decisions about interfaces or format. However, Reddit’s actions over the last 2 weeks takes their past indifference towards user experience to a new and pretty concerning level, and shows that at a fundamental level, Reddit really doesn’t care about anything more than it cares about its business model.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the completely unpaid work they do with the poor tools available through the official app.
As a regional subreddit, our community has spoken: we have chosen to go dark, in a temporary blackout. At least we’re not going dark permanently, as other regional subs have decided due to the difficulty of modding using the native Reddit app.
I'm putting in a ripcord clause: since so many Boulder community members depend on this site for local news and community events - if there is some unforeseen local crisis or force majeure, I may make the call to "undark".

This subreddit will be joining in on the June 12th-14th protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps.

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

How does it affect forensics?

Reddit is a business and needs to be sustainable. No one disputes that. But instead of providing reasonable pricing, reasonable timelines, or reasonable communication with these third-party applications that have made Reddit accessible (and arguably more enjoyable) to the masses for years, Reddit has decided to price them out of existence entirely.
Furthermore, in the days since the announced policy change, it has come to light that Reddit has been less than transparent and ethical in their handling of this change. As a community reliant on evidence, it's hard for us to give Reddit the benefit of the doubt given the facts that have been presented.
At Forensics, we are a community of forensic science professionals who are passionate about what we do, and pride ourselves on providing access to actual forensic knowledge to the masses when questions arise. But key values of our community are transparency and ethics. Without transparency and ethics, no honest discourse can be trusted to happen.
As such, our moderation team has decided that on June 12th, forensics will be joining the over 3,500 other subreddits that will be going dark in protest of these changes. While some subreddits have announced their return dates, forensics will not be doing so. It may be 48 hours, it may be longer. While we are a small community, we believe that it is our responsibility to participate in protesting these changes.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, [many subreddits](https://old.reddit.com/ModCoord/comments/1401qw5/incomplete\_and\_growing\_list\_of\_participating/) will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

What can you do as a user?

* Complain. all the techniques to master Stable Diffusion.
The secret for generating good images
A well-written prompt consisting of modifiers and a good
sentence structure. We will also show you all types of modifiers and some magic words.
Well-adjusted Stable Diffusion weights. You can
always use the default, but sometimes fine-tuned weights can generate better results.
This will strengthen your ability to
bring your creative dream images to life.


Prompt keyword weighting is supported. You can increase the attention of a keyword but not higher than 1.5.
Use the format (example:weight). By default, words have a coefficient of 1 (example: 0.4), they will have a lower priority.

Attention for words Technique:
Adding "()" in the prompt increases attention to enclosed words, while "[]" decreases it. You can combine multiple modifiers:
- a (word) - increase attention to word by a factor of 1.1
- a ((word)) - increase attention to word by a factor of 1.21 (= 1.1 * 1.1)
- a [word] - decrease attention to word by a factor of 1.1
- a (word:1.5) - increase attention to word by a factor of 1.5
- a (word:0.25) - decrease attention to word by a factor of 4 (= 1 / 0.25)

You can also use a few words in "()" and "[]". You can also use a few words in "()" and "[]".

This is not an all-inclusive list, but will help you get great results when you start.

The order of words is important
The order and presentation of our desired output is almost as an important aspect as the vocabulary itself. It is recommended to list your concepts explicitly and separately than trying to cramp it into one simple sentence.

The keyword categories are:

  1. Subject: what you want to see in the image, such as a person, an object, a scene, etc.
  2. Medium: the material used to make the artwork, such as illustration, oil painting, realistic, anime, 3D rendering, etc.
  3. Style: the artistic style of the image, such as impressionist, surrealist, pop art, etc.
  4. Artist: the name of a specific artist or multiple artists whose style you want to emulate or blend.
  5. Website: the name of a niche graphic website that aggregates images of a certain genre, such as Artstation or Deviant Art.
  6. Additional details: any other modifiers that can enhance the image, such as sci-fi, stunningly beautiful, dystopian, etc.
  7. Color: the overall color or tone of the image, such as iridescent gold, pastel pink, etc.
  8. Lighting: the effect of light and shadow on the image, such as cinematic lighting, soft lighting, dark, dark shot, bright, etc.

You don’t have to include keywords from all categories. You can use them as a checklist to remind you what could be used.
A negative prompt is a way to tell the neural network what should not be in the image. You can use words or phrases that describe what you want to avoid or exclude from the image. You can also use weights in negative prompt to increase or decrease the effect of certain words.

Generally accepted negative prompt is considered: (deformed, distorted, disfigured:1.3), poorly drawn, bad anatomy, wrong anatomy, extra limb, missing limb, floating limbs, (mutated hands and fingers:1.4), disconnected limbs, mutation, mutated, ugly, disgusting, blurry, amputation.

Realistic negative prompt: overexposed, (deformed iris, deformed pupils, semi-realistic, cgi, 3d, render, sketch, cartoon, drawing, anime:1.3), text, close up, cropped, out of frame, worst quality, low quality, jpeg artifacts, ugly, duplicate, morbid, mutilated, extra fingers, mutated hands, poorly drawn hands, poorly drawn face, mutation, deformed, blurry, dehydrated, bad anatomy, bad proportions, extra limbs, cloned face, disfigured, gross proportions, malformed limbs, missing arms, missing legs, extra arms, extra legs, fused fingers, too many fingers, long neck.

For positive prompt and negative prompt, I have thought of universal keywords - styles. You may not find them in the examples because they are new. Almost every style has a Negative prompt. It is advisable to write it together with positive prompt.

An example of how to use styles if you want to create a cat image in a Professional photo style:
