first time running an offset smoker and I have some questions
I ran a pork shoulder through my reverse flow offset smoker today. I burned around 15 lbs of peach wood and 30lbs of charcoal.
this was my first time using an offset smoker. I had only smoked on a weber kettle previously.
one thing that surprised me was how much fuel I had to keep pumping in there. I suppose logic dictates that a bigger space requires more fuel to heat up, but damn.
then again, I was burning much hotter than I'm used to due to time constraints... I suppose I need to work with this rig a bit in a more relaxed setting and find the sweet spot. do these figures sound right for the fuel I used?
if it matters cook chamber 10.3 ft3 3 hours @ 280 3.5 hours @ 340 (pulled shoulders early at 190 to rest)
I need to seal some gaps around the lid. tin foil worked as a makeshift gasket today. the shoulder sliced like a brisket and turned out decent for a rush job.

2023.06.02 22:57 Jenergy77 ADHD couples, how do you deal with your partner's emotional reactivity?

Looking for some advice on dealing with my husband's high emotional reactivity.
For some context, we both have ADHD. I was diagnosed as a child and have just undergone the process to reconfirm the diagnosis as an adult so I can get access to treatment. He has never been diagnosed but it's obvious. At first when we got together I found it very refreshing to be with someone who understood me and I understood him in a way that never happened before when dating neurotypical people. I thought because we shared this and I've done much work on myself over the years, that I'd know how to handle him. That's been mostly true over the years, but obv our struggles are not always the same. Still we do have a very good relationship overall.
My issue is we used to both have very high emotional reactivity but now I'm on this new medication and I'm not as highly reactive as I used to be. This new calmer me is finding his emotional reactivity is super intense. To be clear I doubt he's changed, I'm pretty sure he's still the same as he's always been but I'm different now and this new version of me is having trouble being around him when he's like this, or knowing what to say/do to diffuse the situation.
He flies into these extreme emotional reactions over the most insignificant thing. He's 0 to 120, normal to a highly emotional state in seconds. Just watching him it looks exhausting, and it often feels exhausting to be around. Like not everything requires such an intense reaction. I know that's just how he's wired so I try to have empathy and compassion for his struggles. I used to be a lot like him, not as highly reactive as him but I could still be set off in a spiral of intense emotion if I was having a more sensitive/stressful/overwhelming day. But now I'm medicated that never happens to me anymore and I'm finding it hard to handle him always having these episodes over seemingly insignificant things.
For example the other day the lady at the deli counter cut his turkey too thick when he asked for thin sliced and cut double what he asked for. When he got home it was a big emotional explosion about how horrible this trip to the store was, how bad at her job she is, it's waaay too much, it's a huge waste of money and now he can't even eat it cause it's not what he asked for and she should be fired, and I'll never get anything from her again, etc etc etc, on and on and on about the deli meat lady and this horrible experience.
It's almost funny typing this out but it's not funny dealing with him when he's like this. Also the deli meat was still what I would consider thin and he got 200g instead of 100g which is like 1 more sandwich at most. He then spent the last 2 days looking in the fridge complaining there was nothing to eat, meanwhile I've been eating this deli meat and it's delicious.
Stuff like this happens all the time.
Things are further complicated by the fact that we live together and work together. So it's 24/7 of him having meltdowns over everything. Now with regards to our work, we run a business in a very dangerous industry so at times some things do warrant big reactions. But his reactions are extreme to small things and serious things alike. When he reports back to me it's hard for me to determine the severity of the issue and take him seriously because I never know if he's blowing things out of proportion or not.
We've been together 14 years so we were used to each other having big emotions and big reactions, but now that I'm on this medication I'm just like ugh this again. I'm not planning to stop the medication and I don't think he's going to stop being him so I'm not sure what to do in this situation.
Does anyone here have any advice or suggestions? How do you deal with your partner's emotional reactivity? How has medicating one partner of an ADHD duo changed your marriage? Feel free to share stories even if you don't have advice. I can't be the only person in a double ADHD relationship and I'd love to hear from you.

2023.06.02 18:18 Full-Relationship-21 My birthday is coming up and I wanted to explain why I hate it so freaking much

I don't remember any birthday before 5, but it was probably spent listening to everyone argue and everyone forgetting I exist. 6: My family was getting my birthday together by inviting my friends and family, and I felt this pain in my stomach, and I realized the pain was from my birthday. That was the day I realized I hated my birthday, I ended up crying. When I was 7, I didn't have a birthday. When I was 8, I had to celebrate my birthday during school because there were so many snow days. Everyone was asking what I was bringing to school, and I felt so much worse because my family was poor and we didn't have enough money to even buy my cake. I asked for a red velvet cake, and my parents had to get money from my grandparents. I got one slice and my brother ended up eating the rest overnight. 9-11: Don't remember, but my paternal grandfather did die two weeks after my 10th birthday. He was the second to last person in my family that I truly loved. My maternal grandma is thankfully still alive to this day. 12th: My family traveled 6 hours to my grandparents, and that was one of the best birthdays because my grandparents actually wanted to spoil me. I had fun. 13th: I had a shopping spree at the mall, and that wasn't what I wanted. I didn't know what I wanted, but that wasn't it. I had $150 to spend, and in the end, I was just picking out expensive stuff because I had to. 14 and 15, don’t remember. 16: I was placed into foster care at 15.5, so I spent the rest of my birthdays with them. On my 16th we were in Maine, I got clothes and my favorite movie, and I passed out ice cream sandwiches to strangers. I was actually happy. 17: Had to spend it starting my first job ever. Which was very toxic, and nobody showed up to train me, so I was forced to learn it by myself. 18: Spent working at my new job, wasn't bad. Don't remember it too much. 19: I asked off work to celebrate my birthday, and I just bawled my eyes out all day. 20: I spent it crying because I was getting over an abusive relationship. 21: I kinda want to celebrate it. I'm going out with my family on Sunday, and I hope to be quitting my current job on my birthday. I'm going to end up spending it by myself alone in my two-bedroom apartment without a roommate. I'll probably eat ice cream and watch numbing YouTube videos until it's time to go to sleep, then be happy when I wake up knowing that it's not my birthday for another 364 days.

Goetia

Shikisai ~The Time of Parting Hath Come~
This thread is a collaboration with InverseFlash and rsthethird, who helped with feat-gathering, as well as Proletlariet, who helped with formatting. Thanks!

Background

Beast I. One of the Seven Evils of Humanity, possessing the principle of "Pity".
The King of Mages, Solomon, gathered 72 demons in his life that he fashioned into "a system to promote reason in humans"--a sort of magical logic network. After some time, the demons gained self-awareness and merged into a collective being.
This being, the amalgamation of the 72 Demons, became known as Goetia.
When Solomon died, the demons were sealed away inside his corpse. The awakened Goetia at first assumed Solomon's identity. Through his eyes, they witnessed the extent of human suffering that Solomon, for all the king's vast power, had failed to address. They became disillusioned with their host, and hatched a plan to remake the world without its imperfections by travelling back in time.

Goetia's third Noble Phantasm. The "" of original sin. A belt of light that announces mankind’s demise.
Goetia is able to manipulate this belt of light in order to collect, accelerate and converge portions of it, travelling through the timestream or otherwise influencing it.
Singularities
For his plan to work, Goetia needed to make cause and effect stop working, so he can set fire to multiple periods of time in history at the same time.
He enables this by destabilizing human history with Singularities. These are turning points in human history that he's sent Holy Grails (powerful magic artifacts) to change important historical events.

Incineration of Human History
Once human history is destabilized, Goetia 'sets fire' to every moment of it and lets it burn. The energy is then collected as "Spiritrons" (magical energy) and raw heat.
Of course, this has catastrophic affects on the timeline.
Bands of Light
Finally, this energy is then channeled into Goetia's temple, and refined into bands of light that he can control and release at will. Either as weapons, or as fuel to for his ultimate goal: time travel to the creation of the Earth.

While it's likely that Goetia possesses all these abilities as the composite of all Demon God Pillars, some of his components developed wills of their own and gained unique abilities before and after his destruction at the hands of Chaldea.

Flauros

Andras

After separating from Goetia, Andras gained a self-awareness and will to live, and escaped from the Temple of Time near-death, but died afterwards. Even then, its 'vindictive desires' remained as a corpse that could maintain a being by fusing to a Heroic Spirit, summoning and doing so with Chacha and Hijikata to create a singularity-like space.

2023.06.02 11:50 SoulAncient 30M, 5'4.5" 176 lbs, 12-Hour 7 days/wk Nights

I have been trying for a while to get back in shape but I admit I lack consistency.
Frequently, I work 7 days a week for 12 hour shifts (I desire to take advantage of the available overtime). My work is not very physically taxing, but I find that I cannot get myself up in the evening soon enough to have time for a workout.
Generally, I fall asleep between 9 and 11 AM, I do not have issues with light exposure, but I admit talking to women I am interested in on my phone can keep me up till 11. Usually, I will end my shift and get breakfast (usually a driver through breakfast platter with steak slices, every veggie, steedded cheese, rice and black beans, with eggs and a sour dough cream cheese sandwich, sometimes I will get a milkshake type drink or candy....lol I kinda am seeing my issue).
During my shift I do eat the rest of my waking meal (evening dinner, which is basically the same meal without eggs and the sour dough sandwich) and then I get a sugar free energy drink or iced coffee with the sugar free flavorings with skim milk, depends what I'm feeling for.
I often have apples or mandarins I get from the store and drink water (usually without the flavor packets).
At work I do tend to eat left over fruits and brownies, cookies that have been sitting around for the patients that never ate then for that day(😈).
I realize my diet is actually pretty poorly regulated, I have a habit of eating too many sweets. I don't like juice or sodas (energy drinks excluded).
I guess I need to figure out food that will sustain my sweet tooth (usually I eat because I feel drained and crave sugar, not really a stress response, i feel like i do when i use to go on long runs, a type of mild starving feeling, sometimes I do not eat breakfast before bed because I'm not hungry).
I usually do compound exercises during my workouts:
chest press, shoulder press, leg press, dead lift, chin ups (on the lat pulldown machine, its my preference over bicept curls) and lat pulldowns, calve raises, Crunches and triceps extensions. I don't do all of these at once it's just a 3 to 4 workout 30 minute routine before work.
But I only go once a week at worst and at best 4 times.

2023.06.02 06:27 MASTERFARKOS [Six Flags Over Texas] 6/1/23 Home Park Mini Trip Report

Today was my first time going to my home park with a friend since August of last year. I went with a high school friend who I hadn't seen since Memorial Day Weekend last year (also a trip to SFOT), and I let him use the first of my Platinum Pass discounted tickets (and of course now passholders get a $20 bring-a-friend ticket for the month of June). Our plan was to start with Titan and New Texas Giant and do a circle around the park, eventually winding up back where we started and marathoning our number ones (mine is NTG and his is Titan). Things started off incredibly smooth as we hit five rides in the first hour, but things would slow down after lunch as not everything would go according to plan afterward.
Titan - Even though my friend is not an enthusiast, he still ranks some of the coasters at the park, and Titan is his number one. We got the back row on the first train of the day and this thing was already hauling. I have fallen in love with the floater bliss that is the speed hill which will immediately be ruined next year by my first B&M hyper, and I grayed out in the second helix for the first time. This somehow keeps climbing my rankings, and is now competing with Mr. Freeze for my #2.
New Texas Giant - My number one until my upcoming reunion with Iron Rattler and my friend's number two prior to riding Mr. Freeze. We took the ninth row in order to get a walk-on, intent on getting a back row ride later in the day. The first half is great regardless of what row you're in, but riding in the middle versus the back can make the difference between floater and ejector airtime.
Chaparral Antique Cars - We did this as a meme but it turned out to be a nice, relaxing and surprisingly fun early day change of pace, but the best part was seeing some rare angles of Shockwave and New Texas Giant.
Shockwave - I was surprised to see this running single train ops as maintenance was working on the second train. Even so, it was still a walk-on, but we had to take the second-to-last row, again intent on returning for that back row ride.
Superman: Tower of Power - Amazingly, we only had to wait two cycles, and it turns out we timed our ride perfectly, as it started to get a line after we got off.
Newman's Cafe - I first tried these a week and a half ago on a solo trip because of Airtime Thrills, and knew right away I had to get my friend to try them. They're decent for theme park food, but the nuggets and fries could be crispier. Even so, my friend absolutely loved them.
Texas SkyScreamer - Is it just me, or did this get new seats since I last rode it last summer? Regardless, this was still a lot of fun to get back on again. Not very forceful, but the views are absolutely breathtaking, even if I couldn't clearly see the Dallas and Fort Worth skylines today.
Judge Roy Scream - This might actually be worse than some SLCs, though I wouldn't know since it's been 10+ years since I last rode one. We got a back row ride on this classic woodie, and this was the first time a coaster made me question my life choices. My friend and I both agreed that this thing was unbearably rough, and I audibly said that Six Flags should call up GCI.
Mr. Freeze - This was my friend's first time ever riding Mr. Freeze. Lesson learned: Ride this first on less crowded days. We waited anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, and after waiting that long, we decided we were going to get the front row no matter what. Of course, the only people in front of us when they let us into the station also wanted the front row, and struggled with the restraints after returning to the station. The ride ops ended up reopening the air gates so my friend could get on the same train as me (in hindsight, we should've just gone through the air gates while the people in front of us were struggling and helped them out). So if you saw the ride ops reopen the air gates for one train today at around 2 PM after locking the restraints, now you know why (I'm actually surprised they did). I got stapled, which killed the airtime coming in and out of the inverted top hat, but it was kind of my fault, plus those lap bars are heavy as a brick. After getting off, my friend said that the wait was well worth it and that it very nearly overtook Titan as his number one.
Batman: The Ride - A single train wait for the back row when we got on. I don't know if we got the other train or what it was today since this thing was glass smooth when I rode it a week and a half ago, but Batman was ROUGH today. The B&M rattle was very noticeable and was accompanied with some occasional headbanging.
Catwoman Whip - I used to adore this thing as late as last summer (GP moment), but now that I'm a full-fledged enthusiast, I have come to realize how mediocre this ride truly is. You can definitely feel when you're upside down, but I wouldn't call it hangtime, and the positives when you're upright aren't that strong.
Pandemonium - Another I rode for the first time since last summer, and I was very disappointed by how little we spun. Operations were also iffy, as after we hit the final brake run, the ride ops took forever to start dispatching trains again and there was nothing wrong with the ride.
Runaway Mountain - This definitely deserves more attention. We were assigned to the front car and ended up taking the second row, but even so, it was still a great ride with decent airtime and swooping drops and helices that feel much faster than they actually are. This might actually be better than Batman.
New Texas Giant - Back for our back row ride, only for the ride to break down while we were in the station. We decided to wait it out, as I had seen the ride go down enough times to know that it's usually back up within ten to fifteen minutes. The people in front of us waiting for the back row decided to take another row for a shorter wait, so we got on one train sooner when it started running again.
Shockwave - After our back row ride on NTG, my friend was getting tired as his caffeine had worn off, so we decided to end the day early with a back row ride on Shockwave. As we approached the ride, we noticed that they were now running two train ops, and we walked on to the back row. I was left with plenty of leg room, but the lap bar came down one click on its own during the vertical loops, so I didn't get as much airtime in the second half as I would have liked.
JB's Smokehouse Barbeque - My friend wasn't yet hungry for dinner, but since I have an all season dining plan, I decided to grab a BBQ Brisket Sandwich on the way out. It was smaller than I remember, but was still good (I mean, come on. You can't go wrong with Texas barbeque). And the fries were actually crispy (looking at you, Newman's Cafe).
Overall, today was rather successful despite some setbacks and not getting to do our marathons. We rode everything we wanted to except El Diablo (I probably would have bashed it afterward), and I managed to get my friend on Mr. Freeze for the first time and it very nearly became his new number one.

2023.06.02 05:02 SnooDoubts7929 Keto to reverse diabetes

Hello all. My father has been recently diagnosed with diabetes, and ive heard of countless stories where people have reversed their diabetes via Keto/low carb, so i have developed a weekly keto diet for him, and give it a try. I come to this community asking for help, asking for tips, and personal experiences. Along the post is the diet i have created for my dad. We are Mexican, so some of the foods may be unknown to some, so please feel free to ask for any sort of clarification. Noob reports back in with brisket success!
You might remember me from a few months ago seeking your collective guidance and help with my failed briskets.
tl;dr is: Huge thanks to all that told me to a) keep it simple b) be patient c) follow the Traeger recipe if I am using a Traeger.
It paid off, for the first time we enjoyed a fantastic smaller brisket, both lean and fatty ends were moist and tender!
THANK YOU, and to those still struggling with the big B, don’t give up!
Longer story: 1. Simple trim, don’t over think it, left more fat. 2. Simple Worcestershire binder then salt pepper garlic rub - 2hrs dry brine on counter. 3. Simple 225 fat side down (Traeger specific given where heat source is). Used pro pellets blend. 4. Simple 7 hrs to 160 using a good new inkbird 4 probe thermo (huge help) 5. Wrap in tallowed paper and put back on still at 225 until hit 204 (2:30am!) and probe tender, still fat side down. This took another 6 hrs and I just let it go and trusted. 6. At 204 - pulled and put in cooler wrapped in towels for 8hrs (still in butcher paper) 7. At 5hrs to meal I put it in oven set to 150. 8. At meal - opened and rested for 30min - sliced and enjoyed!!!!!
Pics attached - still won’t win any brisket contests but was by far the best so have done, thanks for all the great help!
