2023.05.28 22:26 Flying_Snails_today The Regi battle royal Cosmic Clash

The analysis fuck me im dumb
Snail: The Titan Regigigas has made a couple of powerful Pokémon but in this cosmic clash who shall win?
Few: In the vast world Of Pokemon, There are many Pokemon Types Like Fire, Grass, Bug And All that stuff. But the Pokemon we're talking about is a Dragon type with the Strongest Dragon Type Moves, That's Right, Regidrago. In fact, It was so powerful He was sealed! Cool Right? He scales To other Regis Strength. For speed Hes far superior To Ash-greninja Who Could Dodge Signal Beam! And he Should scale to other Legendary Titans in terms to durability. But really who cares all about that, Let's talk about all of his moves! He Knows Inhale Twister, Vise Grip, Bite, Ancient Power, Dragon breath, Crunch, Dragon Claw, Hammer Arm, Dragon Dance, Thrash, Focus Energy, Dragon Energy, Hyper Beam, And Finally Explosion. Needless To Say, That's a Loooooootttttt of Hax and it'd take too long to explain each one. But hopefully That helps You see How Impressive Regidrago is.
Creeperjared: ah yes RegiRock one of the three original Regis made by Regigigas, one of five of the whole “family” not counting Regigigas himself. Regirock as the name implies is made of rocks, right? Well no he’s apparently made up of clay, so maybe he should have been a ground type instead, but the Pokédex says he made from rocks! I’m getting off track, the Pokédex is not very reliable anyway. Regirock like all of them was locked away by humans and eventually broke out. And has quite the move pool, the notable stuff being: ancient power, iron defense, hammer arm, rock slide, stone edge. It also is said to fix its body with rocks, and even though all Regis can learn ancient power it’s the only one that gets STAB (same type attack bonus) for it! To top it all off he has a “lovely” battle cry, “UNUNUN” can’t show it through text but you get the idea
Him: Regice,The Iceberg Pokémon. It is believed by scientists that this legendary beast has been roaming the world since the Ice Age.
3ggman: Yeah, but calling this thing a beast would be a bit disingenuous. I mean, it’s made purely out of ice and makes weird bleep bloop sounds! Classic robot alien robot stuff.
Him: In any case, this Pokémon is able to instantly freeze things that come near it with its -328 degrees Fahrenheit wind surrounding it at all times. But if that doesn’t work, it can certainly turn you solid by using one of its many ice type moves, like Ice Beam and Blizzard. It’s also stated that nothing can melt its chilly ice body, not even magma!
3ggman: Now with all of that being said, it’s still got some glaring weaknesses. It’s an Ice type Pokémon, leaving it weak to many different typings, which can hurt it in the long run. It’s also hella slow, with a speed stat of 50. Makes sense given it’s basically an iceberg.
Him: Nonetheless, Regice is a formidable foe that is not to be underestimated. Will it crack under the pressure of the competition? You’ll just have to wait and see!
3ggman: Hey God, when are we gonna talk about my favorite regi: Regi the ra-
Him: NOPE NOPE CUT THE CAMERAS
Mayo_enjoyer:steel is one of the most durable materials on earth and do you know what's more durable than steel?Registeel, registeel is the member of the original regi trio created by the colossal regigas.Registeel stands at 6'03 feet /190cm and weights 205kg/451.9lbs.
Mayo_enjoyer:Registeel's is actually made out of magma so that means that his magma is so solid it became steel which is scientifically impossible I think, registeel can shoot beams of energy and steel with ease, registeel's arms are probably the most versatile thing In his arsenal, his arms can dig through walls, stretch and even change sizes and are very sharp, registeel can also explode if he is ever backed up in a corner and needs to do some serious damage, registeel's ability clear body allows him to negate any stat drop done to him so good luck trying to do any funny business against his stats, registeel is ready for slaughter
Snail: In Galar’s very own distance tundra you can find Regieleki! Regieleki is the fastest Pokémon speed blitzing all who step in its way! It’s able to take hits but not many before it goes down! It’s said to have enough power to power up all of Galar! Comparing Galar to London and converting electric to power this comes out to a whopping 3 tons of TN! Even if it’s hurt it’s powerful attacks will be enough to take down any opponent! So if you need a battery you know who to call GHOST BUSTERS- WAIT NO WEONG SHIT-

2023.05.28 22:23 Formallynotpop3506 A dirty little story about my past

Used to suck on mom when she was asleep
I come from a rather humid place and we used to live in a small apartment. One bed so we used to share. Also had a baby brother at that point in our life as well. My day who still till date works in an oil field used to be away most of the times
One late summer night I woke up to find mom sleeping topless with just a cloth covering her tits that wasn't doing a great job anyway. Maybe had fed my brother earlier
I never before that point ever thought my mom's boobs were so big and supple. Maybe never looked at them that way I suppose.
But once I saw them I immediately I wanted to suck them. The milk that was there was obviously a advantage.
So I thought about trying it. At the end of the day she is my mom, I just wanted to try my first food ever😂
And so I did, took the cloth slightly off, and started slow. Just putting my mouth on the nipple, but I gained courage and decided my whole mouth on the babies The first proper suck, was truly unbelievable. It wasn't the taste that was triggering my all cylinders but infact it were those boobs, and the fact that I was sucking milk out of them.
It was an amazing time, didn't suck them too much as I was still afraid of getting caught, but wow.
Happened a few times more but soon after we shifted base to another state which was much dry so mom wore at Max a see through thing.
I still miss those times

PO Jyhnex led Robert to the conference room where he had set up a paper and pencil for him, as per his request. She had also set up a digital whiteboard in case Robert needed it. Robert began drawing the first thing on his mind, occasionally expressing pieces of his thought experiment as he allowed himself to disconnect from the world around him. This was different from meditation as it was inwardly directed and allowed him to fly into the universe.
Closing his eyes, he imagined himself walking on the surface of the sun, feeling the solar wind as if it were a gentle mist of water from a sprinkler. The magnetic field lines reacted to his touch like the strings on a harp, playing the music of the stars. This was the place where Robert could start any journey he wanted. He remembered the quote about a demon that lived in the air, which people believed would kill anyone who challenged it. They had long ago slain that demon, but there was a new one that lived in the void. Many had challenged it, but all had died, leaving behind only the simplest of atoms as a result. Robert was not there to challenge the demon, but to understand it.
He willed himself to warp spacetime and move among the stars. As he passed the stars, the light they emitted danced and flickered on the boundary of the warp field, creating a distracting white noise, it demanded his attention, but it would have to wait for a later time. He was here to observe the gravity waves generated by objects moving in the universe, such as planets around stars, stars around each other, and the dances of colliding black holes. They created an endless discordant white noise on the fabric of the universe. The universe had a frequency, and the phase field had a frequency. When they aligned, phase travel became efficient and easy. Many parameters made up the phase frequency, but mass and warp field distortion rate were the two most important. The warp field distortion rate was by far the largest factor. The sweet spot for phase travel was between 0.35 and 0.55 against the Keriverax Barrer Scale, which was the brick wall at the end of phase travel. It was also the home of the demon that lived in the void.
At 0.4KBS, the gravity waves would slide around the warp field like the flow of air over a wing. At this speed, there was almost no distortion from the turbulence in his wake. This was his starting point. In his mind, he pushed up to 0.57KBS, where the gravity waves began to stick to the warp field for just a moment, maybe one or two picoseconds at most, before releasing like a stretched rubber band. He slowed his perspective of time to watch the interaction between the warp field and the gravity wave, playing with the different aspects of the warp field. He repeated his runs over and over again until he defined four quantitative pieces that, if applied correctly, could move the sweet spot up to 0.65KBS, maybe even 0.7KBS.
Pulling back from the warp field and examining it from the outside perspective, there was nothing left that he could alter from inside the field. On the outside, he left the gravity waves, and there was nothing he could do to alter them, but they were definable. It was time to go home, and he would explore more next time.

PO Jyhnex: Sorry about that. It's my fault.
PO Jyhnex: (private mode) Lt Cmdr Ashix, grab Dr. Norroe. You both are going to want to see this.
When Lt Cmdr Ashix and Dr. Norroe arrived, there were already a few others watching through the conference room windows. Robert was standing at the main table that had been dragged over to the far side of the room. He was using the digital wall screens like a whiteboard. PO Jyhnex moved over to stand between them., "Commander, we were told to let him do this, right?" She asked, just be sure that they had the confirmation of the orders to allow Robert to have limited access to the things he needed to continue his work.
Lt Cmdr Ashix licked her lips, not really understanding what she was seeing. "Yes and no. We wanted to guide him in the direction of what we think we understand. I do not know if this applies. Doctor, what do you think?"
Dr Norroe stood in delighted amazement watching Robert work. He was writing with his eyes closed, moving his head as if seeing or listening to something that was not there, and sweating heavily. She understood what he was doing. He was visualizing the problem in his mind and was trying to express it as fast as he could. Then he switched hands just as Lt Cmdr Ashix interrupted her and asked, "I am not sure, Petty Officer. Have you noticed that he was switching hands?"
PO Jyhnex pointed to an area away from where he was working and said, "Yes, and he changed languages every time he does."
Lt Cmdr Ashix asked, "What do you mean?"
Dr. Norroe slowly smiled and said, "In theory, he is working on the problem in both sides of his brain, as an analytical and a spatial awareness problem."
PO Jyhnex said, "I know this is going to sound like a complete turox shit question, but has anybody held a mirror up to these undecipherable symbols?"
Dr Norroe and Lt Cmdr Ashix just looked at the Petty Officer. "Your report said he has a human learning disability where his brain interprets symbols backward. Maybe he is writing them backward."
Lt Cmdr Ashix sent a private message to her colleague, "Vevreix, please join me over at Congress Room 3 and bring your glasses." A few moments passed when she received her reply.
C. Vevreix: "On my way, ma'am.”
As soon as Ishani arrived with En. Tha’xur in tow, Lt Cmdr Ashix asked Ishani, "I need your glasses." Ishani handed them over without question. Lt Cmdr Ashix held her glasses up to her data slate so that the image from the screen was reflected on the surface of her glasses. "Ensign, crewman, please tell me what you see," she said.
Ishani spoke first, "The symbols are inverted, both flipped horizontally and vertically."
En. Tha’xur interrupted, "Not only that, the whole block of the equation is written right to left, not left to right...Ma'am, we are going to have to redo most of the translations. I think some of our core assumptions were wrong."
Lt Cmdr Ashix said, "No, you two work with what is right here. I do not want to throw away all of the work we have done so far unless we have to. Get me something by tomorrow morning with just what is in the room. I need to speak with CMDR Vashini."
Handing Ishani back her glasses, she said, "Get on it, you two. Everybody else, back to work."
/*********************************/
Robert opened his eyes to see what he had done. He knew what he had written and what it meant, but understanding it all required filling in the missing pieces. This was way more complicated than making the Charger fly. Turning, Robert saw around a dozen Shil’vati watching him through the windows of the conference room.
"Fuck me…" he resignedly thought to himself. He had to get down from the table, but why have the fun end on a boring note?“You shits want to gawk at me? Fine, gawk at this!” Robert thought as he launched himself into a front aerial, landing in the center of the room. Turning to face his work, he walked backward until he hit the wall and allowed himself to slide down and sit on the floor. With one more defiant move, he flipped each marker up onto the table, not caring where they landed.
From outside, he heard a commanding voice, “Alright, ladies, the show is over.” Sitting on the floor, studying his equations, he started to taste the iron tinge of blood in the back of his throat. Always the bloody fucking nose, he thought. The bloody nose was a small price to pay for the ability to define the problem. He needed aspirin and Tylenol to take care of the headache that was starting. His mother had taken him to a neurologist about three years before the first time he had learned he could control his little trick. Bloody noses and migraines were the results of what he called "flying". He had gotten the idea from reading about Einstein and his thought experiments, and it was the best way to conceptualize the problem. His mother had thought he had a brain hemorrhage, but the neurologist found it was brain fatigue.
This diagnosis was the doctor's way of saying that she really did not have a good idea of what had happened. The tests had ruled out many conditions that could cause the symptoms including epilepsy, though there were several parrals. The change in blood chemistry and electrolyte imbalance resembled heat exhaustion and was more than enough to trigger the migraine and nose bleeds. Everything else seemed to be within the ‘normal’ ranges for a human, but in Robert’s case, he was at the upper end of normal. The doctor did not think it was worth exploring further. No reason to waste resources on a child labeled as defective.
“Robert, would you please get up and sit in the chair, so I can check you out medically?” He looked up to find Dr. Norroe standing over him, holding out a hand to help him up. He took her hand to stand, though sitting in Shil-sized conference chairs was comical at best. With him standing only 5 feet 4 inches tall, and the average Shil’vita being 7 feet tall, he needed a booster seat. Dr. Norroe asked about his medical history as she did her examination, and he filled her in on what the neurologist had told him and his mother. She handed him a bottle of something that was not water. It tasted like sweet saltwater, and it was disgusting. The doctor made him finish it before giving him a couple of cleaning towels to get the blood off his face. His shirt was a lost cause; the blood had soaked through and was still wet and sticky. He needed a clean shirt and a trip to the bathroom to clean up but had to wait.
While the doctor was checking out Robert, PO. Jyhnex was cleaning up the blood that had dripped onto the table. The table was a mess, and as he had worked, he had stepped in it and tracked blood everywhere, even on the floor. Robert felt guilty that the Petty Officer had to clean up his mess.
Before Robert could apologize, PO. MunRhoe arrived, holding a large yellow bag and five extra-large pizza boxes. “You went and had a party without me. That is not fair.”
Shrugging, Robert smiled weakly. “You went for the beer run and missed all the fun. Now, Petty Officer Jyhnex gets cleanup duty, and I'm stuck with the hangover,” he said, reaching up to rub his temple.
Dr. Norroe finished treating Robert as PO. MunRhoe placed the pizza boxes and the yellow bag on a clean section of the table. "Hangover is right, you are dehydrated, borderline hypoglycemic, and low on salt. What you need is food, fluids, and sleep. Since you were under my authority as a medical doctor, I am putting you on light duty for 48 hours. So, I will tell your security detail that he is to treat you as if you are on restricted duty for that time and watch out for any signs of distress. Understood, ladies?" Both petty officers responded affirmatively with "Yes, Ma'am."
"Now, what in the Deep's name were you doing to get all that?" Dr. Norroe pointed at the digital whiteboard. She thought she knew what he had done but wanted to verify his conclusions.
"I call it flying. Albert Einstein called it a thought experiment. It is a way of visualizing the problem in the mind," Robert said and began to rub his temples again as the room started to rock back and forth.
"And how long do you usually do this for?"
Leaning his head and taking several long, slow deep breaths, Robert replied, "Most of the time, 30 minutes to an hour, tops. Then I go eat like a hobbit." Despite the room rocking, he was really hungry.
Hearing Robert's stomach growl, Dr. Norroe asked, "I have no idea what a hobbit is, but I will presume that you eat a great deal more than normal?"
Leaning his head again, Robert thought to himself, "Why the f**k am I so tired? It is never this bad." Meanwhile, Dr. Norroe continued, "Robert, please look at me. How long do you think you were 'flying' for?"
Robert took one last deep breath before sitting up. "An hour, maybe a little more. Why?"
Dr. Norroe looked concerned. "Robert, you were in it for almost five hours. This is very serious. If you push yourself like that too often, you will kill yourself. Please do not do this again without supervision unless there is a way to set a time limit."
Robert took what she said to heart. Solving the problem today was not worth dying over. "Physical touch has worked before. Is that good enough?"
Dr. Norroe replied, "Yes, that should be good for now."
Seeing the yellow bag on the table, Robert asked, "Petty Officer MunRhoe, did you get that food item I asked for?"
PO. MunRhoe had finished cleaning the mess and was opening the first pizza box. "Yes, it is in the bag. That Playwell store was an interesting place Do you need it, or do you want a slice of pie?"
Smiling, Robert said, "Both, but I will need a couple of spoons or a medicine cup first, and more water, please." He pulled the jug of 100 percent pure natural maple syrup out of the yellow bag, thinking, "A couple of shots of this, and about ten minutes, and the shakes should be taken care of."
PO. MunRhoe set up a slipe for Robert and PO Jyhnex, “That Playwell store was an interesting place. My brother's younger kids would love some of those kits. But why would you want something like that.?”
Incredully Robert shook his head, “Because they are fun.” showing just a hint of sadness “ I still know how to have a little.”
The Navy technician arrived with a stack of small Dixie cups and several bottles of water. PO. MunRhoe watched as Robert poured himself about three-quarters of a dixie cup of maple syrup and downed it, going so far as to lick the inside of the cup clean. Robert savored the flavor, wishing he had some real vanilla or chocolate chip ice cream to go with it. The idea of vanilla ice cream with maple brought back a memory of his childhood Friday night storytime. Maggie would read first with her book, then he would try with his, but he relied on his mom for a lot of it. Looking back now, it was a good memory.
Grabbing a monster slice of the deepest deep-dish pizza he had ever seen, PO. MunRhoe asked, "What is that stuff you just drank?"
"It is maple syrup," replied Robert, reaching for a bottle of water to clean out his mouth before he started in on the pizza. "It is tree sap that has been rendered down into basically liquid sugar. And where did you get the pizza, and how did you even know about it?"
Shoveling a forkful of the pizza filling into her mouth, she began speaking. "A year ago, I had a detail up in Chicago. I was there for a month and fell in love with deep-dish. This came from a place called 'A Slice of Chi-Town,' and it's called Big Blue's double-stacked deep dish. Both marines and militia swear by the place, and I agree, this is good. Try some."
Robert grabbed a slice after helping PO. Jyhnex reset the table and chairs. It was good pizza, but sadly Robert could only finish one slice.

2023.05.28 22:09 r_mail Weird neurological/immunological covid19 complications that get worse over time

Hello all,
I`m experiencing autoimmune conditions with symptoms lasting years after COVID-19 illness. I have not received treatment for my illness in my country, nor have I had a diagnosis, as it is not a deep diagnosis is not available in my home country. It could be cross-reactivity, but it has not been diagnosed yet. The first relapse happened in November of 2020, at the same time with covid symptoms. Before it, I've never had anything like this. None of these symptoms happened before.

I need help with diagnosing (especially in the field of immunology), links to similar cases, additional tests that could shed light on the situation, and contacts of doctors and researchers who might be interested.
I`ve emailed Dr. Corbett, lji.org, Dr. Thomas Brannagan, and a couple more doctors, but nobody replied to me so far. I am currently not a resident of the United States, and I am wondering what options are available to me. Here is the list of the symptoms I developed:
Neurology-related symptoms:
Hypoesthesia:
1. Total loss of erogenous sensitivity of nipples (after the relapse in 01.2021), glans frenulum (after the relapse in 05.2021), glans penis and anus (after the relapse in 09.2021)
2. Pain sensitivity of the specified areas is also decreased by around 50%, but not lost completely.
  1. Several drops of urine or semen (3-4 drops per 3-4 times) are excreted from the urethra in 15-20 minutes after urination or ejaculation.
  2. Periodical muscle twitches (arms, hands, legs, feet, face muscles - eyebrows, cheeks, left ear)
  3. Allodynia (after weak symptoms and relapses, rarely - without any cause). Lasts for 1-2 days, then disappears.
6.Non-stop tinnitus (high-pitched noise) - since the relapse in 04.2023
  1. Paresthesia, specifically burning/cold sensation around the right ankle (after the relapse in 10.2021, faded away in the spring of 2022, appeared again in 05.2023)
I've noticed a gradual decrease in my sense of smell. At first, I noticed a decrease in my sensitivity to isopropyl alcohol, which began about a year ago. However, since March 2023, I've noticed a decrease in my sensitivity to all smells, although not equally. Some smells, like isopropyl alcohol, smegma, and sweat, have almost completely vanished. However, the smell of fruits is almost unaffected.
Over time, there is a gradual decrease in the sense of taste, resulting in less flavor with the same amount of tea.
Symptoms that happened but disappeared after some time:
I experienced a tickling sensation near my left shoulder blade after a relapse in July 2021. However, it gradually faded away by the fall of 2022.
Intense pain under the nails of both hands (like I hit all of them with something heavy - it was painful even to scratch my head) - happened after the relapse in July of 2022, and faded away in 2 weeks. Also happened 3 times in the winter of 2023, and faded away in 1 week each time.
Frequent and strong biceps twitches occur around 40 times per minute. This happened after a relapse in the autumn of 2022, but the twitches gradually subsided within 2-3 weeks. Periodical non-voluntary bladder muscle contractions, like an urge to urinate - was in December of 2022, and faded away in 3 weeks.
Immunology-related symptoms:
Reaction on human excretions: exhaled air, sweat, saliva, etc.
On contact with these substances, depending on the amount of the "allergen" a relapse or weak symptoms happens.
Weak symptoms - pain (like weak needle stick in muscles in arms, hands, legs, feet, near shoulder blades). Lasts for 2-4 hours. After it, allodynia happens (but not always)
Relapse - long buzzing of legs muscles, long whining pains in the legs and feet. Lasts from 6 hours to 1 day. After the relapse, allodynia (lasts around 1-2 days) and some permanent worsening happens. Also, the appetite is decreased during the relapse and for some time after it.
How did I check whether it's psychosomatic or not:
Two plastic bottles. One of them is being touched by another person. I don't see which one exactly was touched. After it, I grab a random bottle and sniff it, then I come back to my room and wait for symptoms to appear.
After several hours I can tell if I have any symptoms and can recognize which bottle did I grab - "clean"(untouched) or not. I have taken this test 5 and 20 times. The match was 100 percent and 95, respectively.
Consuming food made by other person's hands causes a relapse in almost 100% of cases.
But if the food is heated for ~30 minutes at the temperature of 100 C (212 F) and above - it becomes "safe"
When I apply dexamethasone 0.1% solution to my eyes, nose, and mouth, I can interact with others in-person without experiencing any symptoms or relapse for several hours.
Doing the same without dexamethasone causes symptoms even if I stay 0.5 meters away from another human for 1-2 minutes.
Analyses, checks
In November of 2022, I did a blood check in CellTrend for autoantibodies, the positive result is 11 of 18. In some cases, the value is 3x..5x compared to the reference value.
Besides this, I've done several MRIs (brain, spinal cord, also with contrast), ENMG, and a lot of blood tests (including antineuronal antibodies and antibodies to myelin). I did an evoked somatosensory potentials test. The conclusion:
On tibial nerve stimulation, the response from intumescentia lumbosacralis is not detected from the left and from the right, and from the cortex somatosensory lower limbs representation, the response is not detected from the right and from the right.
On the dermatome innervated by the pudendal nerve, response from intumescentia lumbosacralis isn’t clearly detected; from the cortex representation - is not detected.
So, abnormal results - antibodies from CellTrend, CIC (80 and 120 units when normal value is <20), Evoked Potentials.
There was a hypothesis that it was mast cell activation syndrome. But I did a tryptase level check during weak symptoms, and it shows a normal tryptase level (4.5, normal value is 0.11)
I have visited a psychiatrist several times per year since 2006 (a major depressive disorder in the autumn of 2006). After these symptoms started, I got treatment with several antidepressants but none of them provided any noticeable improvement.

My stats:
M, 37
180 cm, 80 kg
Dont smoke, dont use alcohol, dont use drugs
Health problems before this happened:
Major depressive disorder if 2006, gastritis in 2016

2023.05.28 22:08 CIAHerpes My father always kept the shed locked. Today, I found out why (part 1)

Growing up, I remember it all vividly: any time my friends or I got too close to the shed, my dad would come out hollering and yelling, telling us to stay away from there and that it was no place for kids. He told me he had expensive tools and dangerous chemicals stored there. As a child, I didn’t question it. It was just one of those things. In my mind, I had been born into a world where the sun rises in the east, breakfast is the first meal of the day and the shed stays locked. They were all true, self-evident and simply the way things existed in my young mind.
But as I grew older and eventually moved off to college, I began to question the shed more. My father still wouldn’t let me look in there. In fact, he kept the sole key on his person at all times. Even when he slept, he would keep the key in his pocket.
Then, during my second semester at the nearby state university, I got a call that every son or daughter dreads. I was attending a lecture on anatomy when my phone lit up, ringing silently in the great, crowded hall. Looking down, I saw it was my brother’s number. I went outside, lighting up a cigarette and answering it.
“Hello?” I said. “Gil?” My brother answered immediately.
“Luke, thank God you answered,” he said. “It’s dad. He’s being taken to the hospital. He had some sort of medical emergency. Can you meet us there? In maybe twenty-five minutes?” I said I would, hanging up. I grabbed my stuff in the lecture hall and made my way to my car. Twenty-two minutes later, I pulled into the hospital.
It was too late, however. My father had died of a heart attack on the way. He was declared dead on arrival.
***
We ended up inheriting the house. Our mother had died of breast cancer ten years earlier, so Gil and I were the last two of the Mortin bloodline. My brother was a good guy, though somewhat of a waste case, constantly smoking weed and dropping acid. He had a tendency to travel out far across the country without notice, moving around to see nature or go to music festivals. That is, when he had the money. And since he worked as a freelance writer, he was often broke.
He really wanted to get at the money dad had left us. He wanted the money from the house most of all. He told me repeatedly that it would be enough to tide him over until he got a footing in the writing industry, that he just needed to make a name for himself and then the money would start rolling in. He had his heart set on it. He would write anything that he could make money off of, from horror stories to romances, short stories to novels, even technical manuals or freelance journalism articles. As we walked to the house together for the first time in months, he repeated this mantra to me again: “Just enough to tide me over, Luke…”
“I think you’re probably going to burn through the money that Dad left you,” I said. “Why don’t you get a real job and just write on the side?” He gave me a sideways look.
“Did you see Hunter S. Thompson getting a ‘real job’ while just writing on the side?” he asked. I nodded.
“Yeah, he was a journalist…” I began as we walked into the house, but we both stopped simultaneously when we saw what was on the coffee table. It was all of Dad’s possessions he had when he died. They were placed neatly in a line- his wallet, his phone, his car and house key, some cash, and last of all, a little shed key on a thin, leather chain.
“What do you think is really in that shed?” I asked. Gil looked at me, pale and wide-eyed in the dark living room.
“I don’t really… I don’t know if I want to find out,” Gil said, whispering as if he were in a church- or a funeral home. I put my hand on his shoulder and shook him gently.
“Of course we need to find out,” I said. “You and I own this property now. We should go look right now.” He breathed in sharply.
“No, no, don’t be an idiot,” Gil whispered. “It’s dark now. In the morning, we can go together. In the morning. You have waited twenty years to find out, I think you can wait a few more hours.” But there was something pleading in his voice, something scared and child-like. It reminded me of when I was scared as a little boy at bedtime, telling my dad there were monsters in the closet, and he would go to open up the door, and I’d tell him to stop, that they’re going to hurt him if he opens that door. But he would open the door and there would be no monsters in there. Surely, it was the same here. Gil would see, and for that matter, so would I. There were no monsters in there.
***
This all happened from yesterday to this morning. We ended up leaving that place together a few hours ago, bloodied and bruised and injured, after being trapped inside all night.
The day before it started, Gil stayed up late downstairs, watching TV and smoking a joint. He made himself a night-cap from my father’s liquor cabinet, pouring some Jack Daniels and ice in a cup with some Coke and sipping it slowly. I stayed with him for a while, talking.
We talked about the good times we had with Dad, about going hiking with him at the Green Mountains, or traveling to New York City with him to see the museums. I thought about how much I really missed him, and a knot formed in my throat. I quickly blinked my eyes to try to get the tears to go away.
Eventually, I went to sleep in the guest bedroom. Gil stayed downstairs, sleeping on the couch in front of the TV. I heard the faint hum of it from upstairs, the canned laughter of whatever comedy he was watching, the acerbic tone of the lead characters as they delivered one witty joke after another. I fell asleep to it, the voices blending into a sarcastic, hissing whisper in my ear.
And then I was floating, bodiless, looking down on a dark cornfield with ravens staring at me. The voice was bodiless, too, sounding like it came from right behind me, but when I turned, nothing was there.
“In the halls of our fathers, everyone is dead,” it whispered mockingly. “You’ll be dead soon too, if you get curious. Some doors are locked for a reason. Some doors should stay locked.”
I woke up suddenly. Something was wrong. I heard Gil yelling. I fumbled around in the dark for the lamp, groggily checking the time. 4:17 AM. Flinging the comforters off, I ran downstairs.
Gil was sleeping on the couch, still as a corpse, and quiet as one too. I looked around confusedly. Where was the screaming coming from? I followed the noise out back. I looked at the shed, and my blood ran cold as I heard another long cry come from inside. I walked across the dirt yard in my slippers, not wanting to get any closer but walking forwards nonetheless. Part of me wondered if I was still dreaming, but the chill air against my sweaty face felt real enough.
The screaming from the shed was not in words. It was a long, drawn-out, painful shriek. It was the shriek of a mother who just lost her only child in a war zone, or the yell of someone doused with gasoline and burned alive, but amplified into an ear-splitting cacophony. I had the key in my pocket. I reached for it with shaking hands, pulling it out, slowly approaching the shed.
Then someone grabbed my shoulder. I jumped, whirling around with clenched fists, ready to fight. Then I saw it was Gil.
“You nearly gave me a heart attack,” I said through clenched teeth. “What the hell is wrong with you?” He put his finger to his lips, the universal signal for silence. Then he leaned close to my ear and whispered.
“If you open that shed now, we will both die,” he said quietly and calmly, as if he were just stating the weather for tomorrow. “Put the key away and go back to bed. You never want to open it in the dark. Never.”
“What do you know about it?” I whispered back, shooting glances over my shoulder at the shed. The screaming still came, though slower now, maybe one heart-rending shriek every minute or so. Part of me was glad there were no neighbors for half a mile in each direction, and that made me want to laugh. There was probably some horrific animal in there that would rip me apart if it got the chance, and I was thinking about noise complaints.
“Tomorrow,” Gil repeated, gently taking my arm and leading me back into the house. I sat next to him in the living room, pouring myself a gin and tonic, sipping it slowly as the screams from behind the house mixed with the canned laughter of the TV show, wondering what kind of man my father really was.
***
I woke on the couch, an empty glass falling out of my hand onto the cushion. Light streamed in through the windows. Gil was nowhere to be found. I looked back and forth, then heard the sizzling of food from the kitchen.
Stumbling in, I saw he had prepared a massive breakfast of bacon, sausages, corned beef hash, eggs Benedict with Hollandaise sauce, Texas toast, orange juice and coffee. He was smoking a joint with the windows opened, occasionally sending a grim look out the back of the house towards the shed. I sat down, pouring myself some coffee and grabbing milk and sugar to mix in.
“Who is all this food for?” I asked. He kept staring out the window. “Hey!” He turned suddenly, his face looking pale and drawn.
“What?”
“I said, who is all this food for?” I repeated. He looked around, smiling.
“Just for us. Why not? I figure you will need the energy today, and so will I,” he said cryptically. He sat down across from me, pouring himself coffee and orange juice and grabbing a plateful of meat, toast and eggs. I did the same, giving him occasional glances.
“What did Dad tell you?” I asked, pouring maple syrup on my sausages and bacon and chugging an entire cup of coffee in one long swallow. It burned my throat, but the rising heat and caffeine made me feel instantly better and more awake. Gil sighed heavily.
“Not much, to tell you the truth,” he said. “He was really drunk one time when you were away at college, a couple months ago. He was drinking more and more before he died, like something was weighing on him, something he wanted to forget. Well, anyway, I was sitting down here with him, watching those documentaries he used to love with him, and during a commercial, he just started talking about the shed.
“‘Now boy,’ he said to me, ‘I know you probably have a few questions for me. I probably should have told you and your brother about it a long time ago, but it is something I don’t like to talk about. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess. I think talking about it tends to wake it up.’
“‘Wake up what?’ I said. Dad was quiet for a long time, just staring at me. Then he leaned close to me and whispered something strange.
“‘The stairs,’ he said. ‘They’re not normal, son. Sometimes they go down below the shed to a… Well, I guess it is just an empty sub-floor. Just a plain, swept dirt basement below the shed. But I never built any such sub-floor, and it wasn’t here when I bought the house, and it isn’t on the plans either. If that was it, then who would care? Hah, a free storage place, people would be happy, right?’ I nodded, grinning back at Dad. He seemed to have a glimmer of his old self for a second, happy and free. But then his face darkened again.
“‘But lots of times, boy, those stairs do not lead to a sub-floor. One time, they led down to a white room covered in blood, with bright fluorescent lights flickering all over the walls and ceiling. And there was a little girl down there, dancing among all the blood, jumping and twirling in her little blue dress, little ballerina slippers on her feet, and all the skin on her face peeled off. She was just a bloody, grinning skull. And when she saw me on the spiral steps in the corner, she stopped dancing and just stared. The lights began to turn off, everything went dark, and I ran, my boy, I ran faster than I have ever run in my life. I felt little hands grabbing at me as I made my way up the last stair and slammed that shed door behind me. I locked it as something fought to get out, something that felt far stronger than any child. And that was just one time.
“‘It’s worse at night. That’s when the real dangerous ones come out. I don’t know how the stairs work, son, and I don’t think I ever really want to. Maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll never have to deal with them. Maybe I’ll find a way to destroy them before I die. Aye, maybe…’” Gil stopped speaking, deep in thought and remembrance. I took another sip of juice and ate some bacon before responding.
“So you’re telling me Dad went batshit crazy before he died?” I asked. Gil shook his head quickly.
“He wasn’t crazy, Luke,” he said simply. “At least, I don’t think he was. If he was, the stairs probably made him that way. Do you really think that you were just hearing a fox or something caught in the shed last night? Those screams sounded human. We both know that was something unnatural. But I wouldn’t worry if I were you. If you need proof, we’ll have plenty after today- assuming you still want to go into the shed.” And after we finished eating, with no fanfare or delay, we did. I grabbed the key, and Gil and I went out side by side, scared but not showing it, ready to finally see for ourselves the mystery that had haunted our family for decades.
***
We walked through the hard-packed dirt yard, looking down the grassy field behind the house to the rolling hills that stretched as far as the eye could see. They began to grow blue, pale and fuzzy near the horizon. It was a beautiful place to live, and hard to imagine something so evil might be right in the middle of it.
The shed loomed up ahead of us, boards tightly hammered together and freshly painted a dark red color. The shingles on the small roof all looked relatively new, and the door was expensive and sturdy. I stood in front of the door, listening for the sounds of any movement, but there was nothing. I fumbled in my pocket for the key, pulling it out, looking at Gil who stood close by my side. Then I shoved it in the lock and opened the door.
The shed was dark, as if a curtain of shadow fell across the open door. I stuck my head in, feeling around the side for a lightswitch. And that was when something grabbed my hand. I screamed, ready to pull my hand out and run, and then I felt the lightswitch on the wall. I flicked it on quickly. There was no one in there. Shaking, I turned to Gil.
“Something grabbed me,” I whispered. He nodded, unsurprised. Then we walked in the shed together.
The walls inside were all covered with plates of sheet metal. Every square inch of the shed was reinforced with steel, including the roof, which had a flat pane of metal going straight across the shed, welded to the four that covered the walls. Only the floor was unprotected. It was just a plain dirt floor with a hole in the center.
Looking closer at the protective structure of the shed, I saw deep claw and gouge marks raking the metal’s surface, even those on the bottom of the ceiling eight feet above the floor. Something had clearly been in here and wanted very badly to get out.
I inched closer to the hole in the floor, which took up most of the floor of the shed. It was at least ten feet wide. Looking down, I saw spiraling steps, descending in a clockwise fashion as far down as the light extended. I found a small rock on the ground outside, came back in and dropped it down the center of the stairway. I listened for it to hit bottom, counting the seconds on my watch. After about thirty seconds, I realized it wasn’t going to. Maybe it was too far down to hear when the stone connected.
I looked over at Gil. He was standing as near to the door as he could get, looking like he would rather be anywhere else in the world. I gave him high marks for courage, though. There was something wrong in here, and I could feel it. Outside, it was warm and a fresh breeze blew the smell of flowers and pines through the yard. But in here, it was cold and oppressive. A freezing chill seemed to come from the hole in the floor, spiraling up with the stairs and running over my body, sending a feeling like ice running up and down my back.
“Do you want to go first, or should I?” I said, gesturing to the hole. Gil stared at me as if I had gone mad, his eyes widening.
“Why in the fuck should either of us go?” he said, raising his hands and using them to gesticulate wildly as he often did when he was upset. I shrugged.
“This is our property now,” I said. “We need to at least know what’s on it, don’t you think?” But there was another reason too. It was sheer curiosity, and a desire to prove to myself that there was nothing supernatural going on here, no monster in the closet, just the overactive imagination of an old man. Gil sighed.
“Fine,” he said. “I’ll go. Go grab two flashlights and Dad’s gun. Maybe some extra batteries. Some extra magazines too. Better safe than sorry, after all…”
We both went inside the house together, leaving the shed door wide open, and that was when, I believe, something got out. And then the killings in town began.
***
We descended the stairs slowly. They were stone, slick in some places. There was no guard rail or any protective barrier, which made my heart beat a little faster. I liked something to hold onto. If I took a tumble on these stairs, I might keep falling forever.
We heard strange sounds from below periodically, but when we shone our lights down there, we couldn't see anything. Echoes rose around us, sounding at one point like kids playing a game of hide and seek, at another like the howling of a wolf. Strange squeaks and clicks would also arise intermittently from the shaft below us, and then stop as quickly as they had started.
The noises got louder as we descended dozens of stories, then hundreds. It seemed like the stairs would just keep going on forever, until we hit the mantle of the Earth and got burned up. Then a door appeared, painted a chipped blue with a fading daisy on the center of it. I looked at Gil, then swung it open.
Beyond it, a hallway with fluorescent lights extended as far as the eye could see. Countless rooms went off it to the left and right. The lights flickered on and off, sending portions of the hallway into darkness. The floor was falling apart in many places, with strange molds and fungi growing out of the wood. White and black molds battled for space, forming huge colonies that were bigger than my shoe. I walked forward, putting my weight gingerly on the floorboard. It creaked slightly and felt wet under my shoe, yet it held my weight.
“Come on,” I said to Gil, who followed closely behind. As soon as we had walked a few steps down the hall, the door slammed shut by itself behind us. I jumped and turned, pulling out the gun reflexively. Gil put a hand on my shoulder, pushing the gun back down.
“It’s OK,” he said. I was breathing hard, my heart hammering in my chest. Maybe that was why I didn’t hear the counting at first.
But as we walked down the decayed hallway, the lights turning on and off above us with every step, I realized that someone was counting, and it had been going on for a while. It sounded like the voice of a little girl.
“Forty… thirty-nine… thirty-eight…” she said, counting off the seconds. I heard giggling from the rooms around us, but I couldn’t see anyone. We kept walking forward, but that counting was getting on my nerves- not least because I couldn’t for the life of me tell where it was coming from.
We checked the rooms to the left and the right. There were broken tables, old office equipment and chairs in nearly all of them. Some of them had fish tanks, but instead of fish, they had plumes of multi-colored molds growing over the top of them, or, in one case, a dead and dried-out turtle.
“...one… ready or not, here I come!” the girl’s voice screamed gleefully, and that was when all the lights went out at once. We quickly fumbled for our flashlights, turning them on at the same time. I had the gun in one hand crisscrossed with the flashlight in the other, a trick I had seen used in cop shows. Gil had a ten-inch bowie knife in one hand, which he had just removed from the massive scabbard he had it in around his leg. In his other hand, he held the flashlight, which he frantically shone back and forth, up and down.
“Geez, calm down with that thing,” I said. “You’re going to make me dizzy.”
“Something’s coming,” Gil whispered, a note of dread in his voice. “Don’t you hear it?” I stopped, listening hard. Indeed, I heard footsteps nearing, small suppressed giggles, the swishing of a dress. My flashlight illuminated a pale face, a little boy sneaking a peak out of the nearest room. He was filthy, covered in black soot with torn clothing and what looked like blood caked into his hair. He looked up at us quickly then withdrew into the room. For the first time, I felt genuinely scared. Now we could be certain we were being watched.
“Hey!” I whispered, running into the room after him. Gil followed close behind me. The footsteps seemed to be right next to us now, but I looked around, not seeing anyone. Then a blur of movement passed by as a little girl ran over to the little boy, where he was curled in the corner under a broken folding table, crying and shaking with terror.
“Found you!” she said. I shone my light directly at her back, seeing a pale blue dress, but I couldn’t see her face.
“Get away from that kid!” I yelled. She ignored me, bending down quickly, and before I knew what had happened, she had ripped the boy’s throat out with her teeth. She turned to look at us, and I saw that her face had been cut off, and now only a grinning skull remained. It was covered in a thin sheen of blood, and two tiny white pinpoints of light seemed to glow inside the empty sockets of her eyes. With her teeth full of flesh and gristle and fresh rivulets of blood running down her skeletal mouth, she continued to cry, “Found you! Found you! Found you!”
Without hesitation, I shot her in the shoulder. She fell back a half-step, turning to look at me with that skeletal grin, then spun around and continued eating the little boy. He was still alive, choking on his own blood, his huge eyes moving over to me as he died, as if accusing me of being the cause of all this. The sound of his last gurgling breaths were the only sounds now. I shot her again, but she wouldn’t go down. A blossom of blood began to spread outwards on her back where I had shot her, but she showed no pain. Gil grabbed my shoulder tightly.
“We need to get out of here,” he said through gritted teeth. I nodded. We ran back to the door we had come in through, but it was locked tight. The lights were still off. I told Gil to take a step back, then tried shooting at the lock. The bullet ricocheted crazily as if I had shot a reinforced army tank rather than a plain wooden doorway. Next we tried kicking it open, but it was as if it were fused to the wall.
I turned to look at him, and the truth passed between us in a glimpse. To get out, we would have to go farther in, where there were likely even worse things waiting for us.

2023.05.28 22:05 Dyl8Reddit I’ve been collecting the Bing Word of the Day for an entire year now!

On the day that I posted this, 5-28-2023, it would have been an entire year since I started collecting the daily word that Bing offers every day. For those of you don’t know, if you search for “Word of the day” on Bing, you will find a unique vocabulary word that is specific to each day. That’s what I’ve been documenting for the past year.
I started collecting the words back on May 29, 2022. I kept them in a plain text document that I named word-of-the-day.txt. This document was going to store my words in a specific format, which you will see below. I appended to this document every day in the summer using Windows Notepad, until I eventually moved the document to my Google Drive. This allowed me to hook up multiple automations to it, like a Siri Shortcut that would get the latest word and allow me to append it. Once April of 2023 (or even earlier) came around, I decided to change to only updating it every 6 days since my life was getting a bit busier then. And when I wasn’t automating, I would manually add the daily word as part of my MicrosoftRewards routine (sometimes, but only when I had the extra time for it)
Doing this isn’t as easy as going back to add all 365 words right before I published this. That is because there is a limit to how far back one can go in the daily words — after 7 days a word disappears from the end of the list and is lost forever. This meant that I had to stay on top of the word list, which I did do pretty consistently until I missed on day on June 30th. But that’s ok, as we all make mistakes.
While I was keeping track of the words that Bing offered every day, I learned some interesting things. Discovering a new word every day slowly strengthened my vocabulary to be more eclectic. I used these words in various things like stories, or just to confuse people that had never heard of the words. And with more words, what started as a hobby to collect the words became a project to archive the WOTD for an entire year.
A lot can happen in a single year. When I started, I didn't even have a Reddit account, and it was late May around the time where everyone gets out of school that I started making the list. Now it’s the end of another school year. I am completely different person.
So with that context and reflection, I would say that it is about time to show you the list that I’ve been collecting:*

Hi bowhunters, in my last post I went over 3 core food buffs I always run that are easy to manage and make, this time we will dive a little bit deeper adding agility max ap and xp buffs.
To maximize these foods I run herbivore and strange in numbers, if your food states a lower buff it is either because you are not herbivore or none of your teammates are mutated.
Let's start with my favorite, steeped melon blossom chai for +5 AGI lasting 1 hour!: agility is your bread and butter as a bowhunter, more agility gives: more max ap and better stealth. We craft melon blossom chai with: boiled water, melon blossom, mutated fern flower and spices. - I hope by now you are camping near a body of water - melon blossoms are rare but I only visit 2 locations: the generals steakhouse has 6 aaronhold homestead has 3 (walk straigt from spawn point theyre in between the junk pile and the shack in the field hard to see, one of them is weirdly called something else but if it looks like a melon blossom pick it up it will give melon blossom) we will visit aaronhold for another buff on this list - spices cannot be farmed or crafted like salt and pepper it is something you find while looting if you are following since last post you have saved up some, there is also a great list going around our discord and reddit where alot of you guys have already contributed locations. - mutated ferns grow in a lot of places and I dont actively seek them out, there is ferns at: queen fight near trees, westtek, the general steakhouse and alot more places I already commonly visit if you do want a one stop shop for your mutated ferns over 100 can be gathered between grafton steel yard and the location of a swarm of suitors to the west.
Even though the steeped melon blossom chai boosts our max ap by increasing our ap it doesnt overwrite a foodbuff that only gives max ap so we can add another tea boosting our max ap. For the best buff we make infused soot flower tea giving +50 to our max ap for 1 hour. To craft it we need: boiled water, soot flower, starlight berries and pepper. - I pray your water situation is okay by now - soot flowers grow everywhere in the forest especially around the vault. - we already have a good starlight berry location in the deep but if you want more there is a ton between the slocums joe near wayward the 3 houses on to the south and then follow the railway back north past slocums to gauley mine exit. For another batch of starlight berries. - pepper like spices cant be crafted however they are usually found near spices or instead of spices, a good chef always has ample amounts of salt, pepper and spices on hand.
Wow so now we have a buff increasing our ap regen our max ap and our agility! This means for a lot of us that we either completely remove the action boy perk or use it only at level one leaving us with more room in our build for those sweet food perks I mentioned in level one of the guide, all we need is to grind some levels to buy the perks luckily the next 2 buffs will massively increase our xp gains.
Let's start with the easy one, cranberry relish gives +25% xp for 1 hour! That's like a fifth lunchbox?! And you can craft them??!! All we need is: boiled water, cranberries, gourds and sugar. - do a rain dance and pray for some boiled water if you still don't have a spot near water - cranberries can be found at aaronhold homestead only guarded by some insects or in sunrise field in the cranberry bog if you like mirelurk queens (correct me if im wrong on the spot I dont like mirelurks haha I still go to the noob spot) or the sparse sundew grove which is a very beautiful location in the cranberry bog with almost no enemies. - gourd can be planted at your camp do a quick search on YouTube for the single wild gourd spawn and replant it at your camp - unlike spices salt and pepper sugar can just be crafted dont forget! Run along your favorite river.
Plant some gourds at your camp keep your sugar up occasionally grab cranberries and never run out again.
But wait there's more we can increase our xp gains even more with brain bombs boosting intelligence by 7,5 for 90 minutes, to craft it we need: brain fungus, mothman eggs, !purified! water and irradiated sugar bombs
Having foods you cant farm yourself or ingredients you can't bulk farm might seem annoying but I can assure you that if you are actively playing and exploring the map has plenty of salt pepper spices and irradiated sugar bombs and I never run out of it, another thing I do is check every vendor bot their food section for any ingredients or colas. I can also argue that its not stupid but incredibly fun to be exploring a random place seeing a house and raiding the kitchen cabinets, the dopamine spike is massive everytime I randomly run across spices or sugar bombs and it keeps the game interesting for me.
Another fun one to keep an eye out for is melon bloom sounds a lot like melon blossom but sadly cant be found anywhere except for randomly in small blue coolers, with it you can craft a tea just as strong as the infused soot flower tea but they cant be stacked. Checking every blue cooler is advised because they can also contain sugar bombs and colas.
Another big tip is you can respawn all world spawns such as the 5 sugar bombs in the bath or the wild plants by using the world respawn method which is really easy. I advise you to look it up but the short version is. The game remembers the last 250 ish things you grabbed and respawns the other stuff after you server hop so grab desired stuff then grab 300 books in the weird book house in summerville server hop grab your desired thing again, to make a full loop you can grab a bunch of carrot flowers at palace of the winding path with green thumb then server hop and both the books and desired items are back. (Hot take this is the easier company tea farm)
It is important to never forget to equip super duper for 30% chance at doubling your crafted foods.
If you run out of wood because you are crafting so much food remember caps are worth nothing to a smart forager and wood is sold in bulk for cheap by robots. If you find yourself in need of caps make mentats from carrot flower, brain fungus and firecap and craft berry mentats with mentat firecracker berry and starlight berry. Use chemist to make 2 mentats and those into 4 berry mentats also use super duper for 30% bonus. They sell fast at 50 medium at 60 slow at 70 caps and you make 300 of them in like 15 minutes if you know the route. This is not a mentat guide but if you combine all your knowledge with the resources on discord you can figure it out.
Next time we are looking at even more buffs most of which are more situational like defensive buffs and a +5 strength for the carry weight or the melee sidearm. We will also have a brief overview of the chems I recommend.
My tip for next week is that almost every other plant can be used in some way so keep a mental note of any firecaps, silt beans, aster, gourd blossom and ofcourse all of the already stated ingredients.
And ofcourse I want to know from you! What is your go to location for one of the above stated ingredients or what recipe is absolutely missing from this list or required for the next one let me know. What perks are you no longer using because a food buff took over its role and what is your tip for juggling all these buffs for an apprentice chef?

2023.05.28 22:00 popcodswallop [WTS] VINTAGE • Near-Mint 1910s-20s Hard Rubber Pens from My Collection (Flex-Wet Noodle): Parker Jack-Knife 20, Jack-Knife 20 1/2 Sheaffer Clip 3A, No. 2 "Changing Lanes" A.A. Waterman No 3 Twist Filler •

This week’s vintage batch features 5 BCHR FPs from my personal collection that are 100+ years old. Some of you might recall from years ago when I shared them over in fountainpens. They are the culmination of 20 years of hunting to find the cleanest examples I could short of NOS stickered. You’d be hard pressed to find nicer examples anywhere. All retain their factory back color with factory sharp chasing and knurling as well as minimal brassing – downright rare for hard rubber pens this old. Nibs range from Flexible to Wet Noodle. As always, all are fully restored and ready to write.

ALBUM & TIMESTAMP

Pastable link: https://imgur.com/a/nJEmzN7

Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed in the last couple weeks. Each of these pens is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other problems. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line.
THESE PENS HAVE NO CRACKS, CHIPS, PERSONALIZATIONS, LOOSE OR MISSING PARTS, BENT NIBS, MISALIGNED TINES, BROKEN/WORN OFF TIPPING, OR THREADING ISSUES.

Line Widths and Writing Samples: To provide buyers with as much information as possible, I have started to adopt the following line width standards: XXF (.1-.2mm); XF (approx .3mm); F (approx .4mm); M (approx .6mm); B (approx .8mm). Nib flexibility is determined by variation (max line width under pressure) and softness (amount of pressure). Flexibility designations based on variation generally run as follows for an XF/F nib: Semi-Flex (approx. 1mm); Flex (1.2-1.9mm); Superflex (>2mm). All line width measurements are taken with a digital caliper but should be considered approximations providing a general guide. Width may vary slightly depending on type of ink and paper used as well as amount of pressure applied. All writing samples are on Rhodia dot paper using Waterman Serenity Blue.

1. c.1913 Parker Jack-Knife Lucky Curve 20 (smooth HR, NPT, button filler, 14k Superflex nib). This full-sized model measures a hair under 5 1/4” capped. Manufactured roughly 3 decades after the company was founded in 1888, this early Parker features a Safety cap (marked "Jack-Knife Safety" with a 1912 patent date) designed not to leak when carried. Early, protuberant barrel-threads situate it’s manufacture shortly after that. It's made of smooth black hard rubber with nickel-plated clip. Knurled blindcap and cliplock and “X-mas tree” Lucky Curve feed. This pen is a button filler (see detail photo in album). To fill simply unscrew the blindcap, submerse the nib, and depress the brass button once. Super-Flexible 14k Parker Lucky Curve “Lazy S” nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx. 2.2mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, superbly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an excellent choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: near mint [B+]. Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no discernible fading. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Clip is close to pristine with no brassing or other notable flaws. Knurling is factory crisp. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel and number stamp on blindcap are factory deep and fully legible (DETAIL PHOTO). Price: $370 SOLD

2. c.1915 Parker Jack-Knife Lucky Curve 20 1/2 (BCHR, NPT, button filler, 14k XF Flex nib). This full-sized model measures a hair under 5 1/4” capped. Although this pen never had a number stamp, it corresponds to a 20 1/2, the ‘1/2’ designation signifying a chased pen. Like the pen above, it features a Safety cap (marked "Jack-Knife Safety" with a 1912 patent date) designed not to leak when carried. It's made of chased black hard rubber with nickel-plated clip. Knurled blindcap and cliplock and “X-mas tree” Lucky Curve feed. This pen is a button filler (see detail photo in album). To fill simply unscrew the blindcap, submerse the nib, and depress the brass button once. Flexible 14k Parker Lucky Curve “Lazy S” nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 3B+ (approx. 1.8mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE - after taking measurements, I found that this nib is situated on the upper end of Flexible). Thin hairlines, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an excellent choice for expressive and calligraphic writing styles. Condition excellent+/near mint [B+]. Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no discernible fading. Chasing and knurling are factory deep and crisp with no discernible wear. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Clip exceptionally clean with no brassing – just a pin-sized mark here and there.. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. Price: $340 SOLD

3. c.1913 Sheaffer-Clip 3A (BCHR, NPT, lever filler, 14k XXF/XF Superflex/Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 5 3/8” capped. It was Walter A. Sheaffer who first patented the lever-filling fountain pen in 1908. In 1912 he founded the Sheaffer pen company and his revolutionary design was met with resounding acclaim. In the 1910s, when the pocket clip and lever filler were recent innovations, Sheaffer pens were typically marked "Sheaffer-Clip" on the clips and "Self-Filling" on the nibs to distinguish them from the oldfangled clipless eyedroppers of other makers. Most of their model lineup in this period – before stiff, manifold nibs became the rage in the mid-20s - was comprised of simple black hard rubber pens with long-tined gold nibs every bit as flexible as early Waterman's but known for their more responsive snap-back. This 3A is made of black chased hard rubber with nickel-plated furniture, epitomizing the simple, utilitarian aesthetic of the era. Oval barrel imprint including "Patents Pending" inscription pertaining to Sheaffer's first patent for a double (pressure) bar lever-filler, a patent that was granted in 1914. This and the protuberant barrel threads pin this pen down to the first couple years of production of Sheaffer's Self-Filling pen. So early is this example in the evolution of FP design that it bears the cap imprint of a hand pointing in the direction the cap is to be unscrewed (see album photo) – a relic of a time when most FPs were slip caps. 14k #3 Sheaffer Self-Filling nib yields Super-Flexible variation with softness verging on a Wet Noodle. It lays down a smooth and consistent XXF/XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx. 2.3mm) under very light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Close-to-needlepoint hairlines, superbly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: excellent+/near mint [B+]. Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no discernible fading. Chasing and knurling are factory deep and crisp with no discernible wear. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Nickel-plated trim is exceptionally clean aside from a spot of wear on the top left corner of the clip. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel and number stamp on blindcap are factory deep and fully legible (DETAIL PHOTO). Price: $370 SOLD

4. 1920s Sheaffer No. 2 (BCHR - “changing lanes” pattern, NPT, lever filler, 14k XXF Needlepoint Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 5 3/8” capped. As Sheaffer entered the 1920s, they experimented with innovative materials and chasing patterns. Their hard rubber pens were generally more stable, i.e. less susceptible to oxidation. And they introduced eye-catching Art Deco patterns like the one on this HR pen, known to collectors as “Changing Lanes” for its resemblance to the painted indicators on the highway (even if this pen predates the US highway system by decades). Nickel-plated lever and clip simply marked ‘Sheaffer’s.” 14k Sheaffer #2 nib is a Wet Noodle in no uncertain terms with flow and doftness comparable to that of a dip pen. It lays down a smooth and consistent Needlepoint XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (see WRITING SAMPLE under minimal pressure (approx. 2.3mm). Needlepoint hairlines, phenomenally responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: near mint [B+]. +]. Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no discernible fading. Chasing is factory deep and crisp with no discernible wear. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Nickel-plated trim is pristine with no brassing or other noteworthy wear. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is factory deep and fully legible. Price: $370 SOLD

5. c.1915 A.A. Waterman No. 3 (BCHR, NPT, twist filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). This full-sized model measures a lengthy 5 9/16” capped. Arthur Allan Waterman began his career as a traveling salesman for the L. E. Waterman Co. in the 1880s-90s. In 1897, he left L.E. Waterman to found his own company in Boston by name of A. A. Waterman Pen Co., under which several new patents were approved, including his innovative twist-filling system. For L.E. and F.D. Waterman, who had just lost one of their best men, “favorably known to almost every dealer in the country,” this was a bitter pill to swallow. To make a LONG STORY short, A.A. Waterman’s “betrayal” in the eyes of the monopolistic L.E. Waterman company, his use of the address formerly associated with L.E., as well as his appropriation of “Ideal” and “Waterman’s Ideal” to advertise his pens, culminated in a lawsuit against A.A. that was settled in 1898. A.A. would come to found and later be forced out of a new company named the Modern Pen Co., but he continued to be hounded by L.E. Waterman’s lawyers into 1912, when A.A. Waterman was now legally bound to imprint their pens “Not connected with the L. E. Waterman Company”. Much of this fraught history is included on the lengthy barrel imprint of this pen, which reads: “Arthur A. Waterman & Co. NY. / Modern Pen Co. Successor / Pat. Nov. 17. ’03. Oct. 11. ’04. Aug 31. ’15 / Not Connected with the L.E. Waterman Co.” A twist-filler with patented clip, this pen is the fruit of all A.A. Waterman’s efforts. It’s mad of black chased hard rubber with slip cap and nickel-plated clip. The filler operates on the same principle as other pens with sacs, except that one twists the sac instead of compressing it to create the necessary vacuum to fill with ink. To fill one simply twists the blindcap 1-1.5 turns, submerses the nib, and lets the blindcap twist back to its starting position. Super-Flexible 14k AA Waterman #3 nib with clover-shaped breather is a lovely writer. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx. 2.2mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another excellent choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: near mint [B+]. Difficult to repair and scarcer than comparable L.E. Watermans, these pens are exceedingly tough to find clean. The repair involves knocking a tiny pin out of the blindcap, removing the tiny section that’s been glued in from the factory, and attaching a sac cut at both end to length to the blindcap stem and the section. I repaired this one myself and am proud to say it works without a hitch and reliably fills to factory capacity. Cosmetically, this pen is also quite the gem. Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no discernible fading. Chasing is factory deep and crisp with no discernible wear. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Nickel-plated clip is pristine with no brassing or other noteworthy wear. Voluminous manufacturer imprint on the barrel is factory deep and fully legible. Price: $380 SOLD

2023.05.28 21:57 kingninothethird What is the point of FS23?

I'm a long distance truck driver. Don't sit at home to play, all of my gaming is on my Switch while on the road.
Have a silly amount of hours on FS- Nintendo Switch Edition (IE - FS17)
I have to ask, who is FS23 even aimed at?
New farmers aren't going to be able to overcome the massive difficulty settings so it definitely isn't for them...
I'm a weathered farmer (I've done logging, that counts right?) and I spent the £40 on FS23 in the hope that I'd finally have something to sink my teeth into but that isn't the case either.
The final nail in the coffin for me was when I bought a plow (which stated I could write fields in the info) and it turns out I actually can't make my own fields?!
What is even the point? If you are alienating new players while losing all of the actual gameplay that long time farmer's enjoy?
Biggest waste of £40 I've ever spent and I've bought oregano from a weed dealer.
Pointless.
At least Snowrunners know how to progress a game, if they did a farming RPG then I reckon Giants are out of business.

JBL says Jordan has shown he’s nothing but an ungrateful little brat who he’ll gladly beat up for turning on the man who gave him a chance. JBL wins clean.)
WWE Tag Team Championship:
MNM (c) w/Melina vs Super Crazy & Psicosis
Hardcore Holly vs Mr.Kennedy
United States Championship:
Chris Benoit (c) vs Booker T w/Sharmell
Booker T wins the championship in his hometown after delivering a low blow to Benoit when the referee is distracted by Sharmell, turning heel in the process)
Bobby Lashley vs Simon Dean
(Lashley wins easily here on his debut.)
Casket Match:
The Undertaker vs Randy & “Cowboy” Bob Orton
(After SummerSlam, a pissed off Undertaker promises there will be revenge and he’ll show the Orton’s No Mercy! Theodore Long tells Randy and Bob Orton that they’ll compete against The Undertaker at No Mercy and it’ll be a Casket Match! The Undertaker plays mind games for weeks, with mannequins of the Orton’s inside a casket which freaks them out. We get the same match and finish as in real life, the Orton’s win by putting Taker in the casket and set the thing on fire to write The Undertaker off TV which Randy and Bob think they’ve finally got rid of him for good.)
World Heavyweight Championship:
Batista (c) vs Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio
(After No Mercy, Teddy Long announces that Rey Mysterio is the new #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. Eddie Guerrero interrupts and says that Rey doesn’t deserve to face Batista and demands to be added to the match. Teddy says no but Vince McMahon comes out and announces that Eddie Guerrero will be in the match too, much too Latino Heat’s delight. In the build up, Eddie builds a bond with Batista which Rey tells Batista to not trust him. Batista tells Rey he won’t trust Eddie at No Mercy to not cheat and won’t trust him either because it’s every man for himself! In a very entertaining main event, Eddie Guerrero delivers a Frog Splash to Rey Mysterio and wins the World Heavyweight Championship clean. No Mercy draws to a close with Latino Heat celebrating.)
Taboo Tuesday 2005 (Raw)
Date: 1/11/05

WWE World Tag Team Championship:
Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch (c) vs Kane & Big Show
Women’s Championship:
Trish Stratus w/Mickie James vs Candice Michelle
Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship:
Shelton Benjamin (c) vs Carlito
Rey Mysterio vs Triple H (By Disqualification)
(Eric Bischoff allows the fans to choose a SmackDown wrestler for a returning Triple H to face off and destroy at Taboo Tuesday to show Theodore Long what show truly has the best stars. The fans choose Rey Mysterio which Triple H pisses himself laughing at. Little does The Game know, Rey’s better than he thought. Rey puts up a fight until Kane & Big Show come out and destroy him which causes a disqualification. Triple H then Pedigrees Rey and the message is sent to SmackDown.)
Backstage Segment:
(Ric Flair welcomes back his friend Triple H, they both shake hands and Flair says it’s good to have him back!)
WWE Championship:
John Cena (c) vs Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels
(Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels both make cases to Eric Bischoff as to why they should be next in line to face John Cena. Bischoff tells them that they’ll both be getting a shot as it’s going to be a Triple Threat Match at Taboo Tuesday for the WWE Championship. Angle promises to win back his title he lost at WrestleMania, Michaels wants to show he’s still got it in him to be the WWE Champion and John Cena believes this is the best opportunity to show he’s well and truly the top dog in the company. John Cena retains after pinning Kurt Angle. After the match, Cena, Angle and Michaels are attacked by the SmackDown roster who’ve entered the building after seeing what happened to Rey Mysterio earlier in the night in retaliation. Cena receives an RKO from Randy Orton and a Batista Bomb from Batista meanwhile Shawn Michaels receives a Frog Splash from Eddie Guerrero. Taboo Tuesday draws to a close with the SmackDown roster reigning supreme.)
Notes:
(Eddie Guerrero is tragically found dead in his hotel room on November 13th, 2005. This vacates the World Heavyweight Championship and Teddy Long reveals that a tournament will take place on SmackDown with a new World Heavyweight Champion crowned at the next SmackDown exclusive PPV, Armageddon. RIP Latino Heat ❤️)
Survivor Series 2005
Date: 27/11/05
Location: Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan
Cruiserweight Championship:
Jamie Noble (c) vs Chavo Guerrero
(Chavo Guerrero dedicates his championship win to his uncle Eddie.)
Champion vs Champion Match:
Booker T w/Sharmell (United States Champion) vs Shelton Benjamin (Intercontinental Champion)
(Booker T cheats to win after exposing the turnbuckle after Sharmell provides a huge distraction to the referee.)
Bobby Lashley (SmackDown) vs Chris Masters Raw)
Women’s Championship:
Trish Stratus (c) w/Mickie James (Raw) vs Melina w/Johnny Nitro (SmackDown)
(Trish retains on Melina’s in-ring debut thanks to Mickie James' unwanted assistance.)
Chris Benoit (SmackDown) vs Shawn Michaels (Raw)
(Both men have unfinished business. With Shawn Michaels owning two victories over him, Chris Benoit says that’s something he hates because it makes him look like he’s not on HBK's level when deep down, he knows he actually is. Benoit who’s grieving over the loss of his best friend promises that it won’t take away his professionalism going into this match. Michaels says that he respects the hell out of Chris Benoit, would love to wrestle him again like he did twice earlier in the year and wants to put on a show that Eddie Guerrero would be proud of. Chris Benoit wins in a 30 minute classic after forcing Michaels to submit to The Crossface. After the match, both men shake hand, hug and Michaels raises Benoit’s hand in victory.)
Team SmackDown (Batista, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, JBL & Matt Hardy) vs Team Raw (John Cena, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Kane & The Big Show)
(Brand Warfare! Vince McMahon wants to see competition and tells Eric Bischoff and Teddy Long to pair 5 of their best to face each other at Survivor Series. Vince says that whoever loses, the GM of that show will be on probation! Bischoff announces his team will be captained by the WWE Champion John Cena, who’ll be teaming with Triple H, Kurt Angle, Kane and The Big Show. Long announces his team will be captained by Eddie Guerrero who’s then replaced as captain by Batista because of his sad death, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, JBL and Matt Hardy who wins a Battle Royal to be the last member of the team. For weeks, the Raw and SmackDown roster both invade each other’s brands, brawl and still have the iconic parking lot fight in the build up. Animosity sets between both teams with Batista and Rey despising Orton and Bradshaw while Cena has issues with Angle and Triple H has issues with The Big Show. This match is a Survivor Series classic with two men remaining. John Cena and Randy Orton. Thanks to Bob Orton, Randy capitalises, hits an RKO on Cena and pins him to win the match! The SmackDown roster comes down to celebrate with the Legend Killer until… GONG!! Out comes some druids with a casket and they raise the casket. Lightning then sets the casket on fire and out of the casket comes… The Undertaker! Orton looks utterly terrified and retreats, Taker beats the hell out of a bunch of jobbers and Survivor Series draws to a close with Taker sending Randy a message… he’s back!)
(Sole Survivor: Randy Orton)
Notes:
(The trial of Eric Bischoff culminates in him being fired as the Raw GM.)
(An 8-man tournament starts on the SmackDown after Survivor Series to determine the new World Heavyweight Champion at Armageddon. Batista and JBL advance to face one another at the PPV.)
Armageddon 2005 (SmackDown)
Date: 18/12/05
Location: Dunkin’ Donuts Center, Providence, Rhode Island
Rey Mysterio vs Mr.Kennedy
Cruiserweight Championship:
Chavo Guerrero (c) vs Jamie Noble
Champion vs Champion Match:
Kane & Big Show (World Tag Team Champions) vs MNM w/Melina (Tag Team Champions)
United States Championship:
Booker T (c) w/Sharmell vs Chris Benoit (By Disqualification)
(Chris Benoit invokes his rematch clause for the United States Championship. Benoit says that Booker T disgusts him because he thought better of him. Benoit then promises to regain his championship from someone who’s proved he’s nothing but a coward who hides behind his wife’s skirt. Booker T says that Benoit is a punk who stole what was his at SummerSlam and he rightfully took it back off him! Benoit is on the verge of winning the championship until Sharmell kicks him low and causes a disqualification to help her husband keep his title.)
Vacant World Heavyweight Championship:
Batista vs JBL
(After getting to the final, Batista promises to win back the World Heavyweight Championship just like Eddie Guerrero would want and promises to dedicate his victory to him. JBL says that Batista is living in a fantasy land and that Eddie would want a true Wrestling God in him to be the new World Heavyweight Champion! Despite trying his best with heel tactics, JBL comes up short as The Animal counters, delivers a Batista Bomb and pins him to once again become the World Heavyweight Champion.)
Hell in a Cell Match:
The Undertaker vs Randy Orton w/"Cowboy" Bob Orton
(After returning at Survivor Series, The Undertaker promises that he will have vengeance. He tells Orton they’ll have one final battle inside his playground… Hell in a Cell! Orton tries to back out of it for weeks as Taker plays mind games with lightning, possesses Josh Matthews during an interview, Randy sees him in a mirror etc. The Undertaker punishes Orton for being a thorn in his side for the majority of 2005 and beats him in a bloody encounter to close out the feud.)
Notes:
(It might be controversial to have Batista win at Armageddon when it’s obvious he’s injured and going to be out soon but I feel that giving him the title unpredictably and still not being pinned is a long term benefit for where I go with him upon return. There’s also another reason I have Batista win and you’ll see when the title is vacated again…)
(Batista gets storyline injured in a Steel Cage Match against MNM after being attacked by Mark Henry on the last SmackDown of 2005.)
(The World Heavyweight Championship is once again vacated and the new champion is determined in a Battle Royal. The winner of the Battle Royal is... Randy Orton! Yep, that’s why JBL doesn’t go over at Armageddon! The heel I’m putting the championship on is The Legend Killer 😁.)
(Triple H turns on Ric Flair and beats the holy hell out of him on the last Raw of 2005.)

2023.05.28 21:46 BaldingBee Alternative Superman story

Hi all. First time posting here. I was scrolling through Netflix/Prime/Disney+ and got depressed about the lack of originality, and poorly executed ideas. So I figured I'd come here and write out a different take on the Superhero genre.
We all know the story. Krypton is ending. The planet is suffering, the sun is expanding, and the end is nigh. Jor El puts his baby boy, Kal, into a small ship and sends him hurtling across the Universe towards Earth. He knows that he will be safe, he knows that he will be strong, and he knows that the Kryptonian crystal in the ship will help guide and mould his son into the man he is to become.
The ship enters Earth's atmosphere, but it collides with a Satellite as it does so, changing the ship's trajectory. It lands in the swamps of Louisiana, where a young woman finds it. She takes the baby and watches as the ship sinks into the swamp. She takes the young boy home, and, when her husband returns from Military Deployment she annouces to him that they have a son.
Kal grows up different, as we know. He's strong. He doesn't get sick or injured. But, without Jor El's guidance, his other abilities take longer to develop. He goes through an early loss, his father dying in combat on the other side of the world. He's distraught by this and, in his grief, perhaps develops another ability. He questions his mother about his origins, but she swears that he is her and her late husbands offspring, denying him the knowledge that he so desperately craves.
He's 18, leaving school and following his father into the Marines. Of course he passes through basic training with ease, setting unbelievable records as he does so. He gets deployed and goes through the hellscape that is war, seeing comrades, friends, brothers die. He watches, in horror, the atrocities that he cannot stop. He's only human, after all.
During one particularly bad mission, he finally discovers just how impervious to damage he is. Under immense pressure, he watches his Commanding Officer take a shot to the chest, a man who has been like a father to him since joining the Marines. He runs out to get him, his speed kicking in, bullets slamming into his chest and bouncing off, he's able to watch as the enemy fire comes towards him, able to see each individual round as his abilities begin to fully wake up.
As he picks his C/O up, a mortar round hits him and detonates, killing the C/O instantly, and sending Kal into shock, then into anger, and at that point his heat visions activates for the first time. Uncontrolled, he lasers everything in front of him, burning the landscape and disintegrating the enemy forces. He stands for a moment, in shock, then collapses from the exertion of his Krptonian DNA and abilities kicking into high gear for the first time.
He wakes up in a medical tent, cleaned up, with no damage to his body, but his mind is wracked with shock, guilt, and horror. He tries to explain what happened, but when asked to replicate his powers he cannot. He doesn't understand them, he can't control them, and his Doctors and superiors think the stress has broken his mind. At this point he's awarded medals for bravery, and Honorably Discharged from the Marines.
He's lost when he gets home. He doesn't understand what's happened. His mother is still adamant that he is her child. He's confused, and he knows she's not telling him something. He doesn't trust her. Amidst crying and screaming, he leaves to go North, to Gotham. He hopes to find a new life.
In Gotham, he's appalled by the state of the city. The rampant crime, the decay, and the corruption. He sees a family standing up for what's right - the Waynes. He suffers from nightmares, waking up screaming, sweating. He's nervous and, as he walks around Gotham, he will see something that will trigger a memory and force him to live through horrors all over again.
He hears of the assassination of the Wayne family. Poor Bruce, left without parents. He relates. Despite his mother being alive, she's all but dead to him. He decides that he needs to be active in helping to clean up the streets. He joins the Force. Meanwhile, his PTSD continues. He barely sleeps now. Every time that he closes his eyes he sees his friends in pieces.
He excels on the Force. His military training, and abilities, put him at the forefront of any situation. He throws himself into his work, as if trying to atone for something. He makes more arrests than any other cop, and works 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. Kal often returns from the beat with his uniform damaged, slashed, even with bullet holes, but he's unharmed. The other cops nickname him "Lucky".
The work is noticed and he is promoted to the Gang Investigation Unit. He remains stoic in his tireless work, determined to keep the people of Gotham safe, but he keeps seeing the same guys back out on the street a week or two later. There's corruption in the unit, and Kal detests it. How can you clean up the city when the people that are supposed to keep it safe are dirty?
He starts making waves in the GIU and is promptly transferred to the Homicide Division. His PTSD, which he had been coping with, kicks up a notch here. In every victim, he sees horror. He seeths with anger. He watches men in his unit gunned down by criminals before he can stop it. He never goes home now. He works 20 hours and feels guilty when he naps, as he could be using the time to save a life.
He falls asleep one night at his desk. He's back in the Marines. Enemies everywhere. His C/O blasted to bits. He wakes up screaming, lasers shooting from his eyes and searing into the building's infrastructure, bringing the entire thing down with him inside it. He's told he's "Lucky" to survive, and people can't understand his lack of bruising or cuts.
He takes time out. He has to. He takes a leave of absence and goes to visit his mother. He finds her her incredibly weak, bedridden. She's been waiting for him to return. She hands him a diary and tells him to read it, she will be here when he's done. He goes and reads the diary. It explains everything. He's not his mother's son, he's not even human. He breaks down and goes to the swamp to look for his ship, but can't find it. There's a Government Water Purification Plant sitting on the spot where it should be. He's dejected, angry, distraught.
He starts to run and everything slows down around him, like it did all those years ago. He's running faster than he's run before, he can't stop, his feet carry him over land and water, he feels like he runs so fast that he leaves the ground. When he finally comes to stop, he's 100s of miles away from his home town. He calms down and gets on a bus. He travels back to his mother, but she's passed by the time he returns.
When he returns to Gotham he's even more lost than when he left, but at least some things are beginning to make sense. He finds an old warehouse and tries to centre himself. He focuses on his emotions and wills himself to do something. He tries for weeks, until, one day, in pure frustration, he screams out and lasers the length of the warehouse. He's done it. He's figured one out. From here he works through the other powers he knows about, he tests his strength, he practices his heat vision, and he manages to figure out his super speed.
He goes back on the Force, but is told he's been replaced in Homicide. There's a new Task Force, though, headed by an older Detective. This Task Force is designed to track down and confine unhinged and insane criminals. It's dangerous work, and an old hospital has been commissioned to accommodate these individuals: Arkham Asylum.
He gets into his work. It gives him the freedom to pursue criminals his way. He can use his powers, and he can be doing what he needs to do. He refuses to have a partner. He doesn't want to be responsible for another person's life in the situations he finds himself in. He's promoted up through the unit, quickly.
Kal ends up helping out with a criminal in Metropolis. They have brought him in due to his fantastic record. It's a mad bomber. He's bombed public buildings, police precincts, schools, and his latest bomb levels an apartment building. They need to stop him. Kal is hot on his trail and is making connections no one else can see. He tracks his targets and realise there's a strange pattern, but it's there. He figures out the next target - a LuthorCorp plant. He gets there with his superspeed and scouts the building, but quickly realises that there's no one in it. He comes to a stop in the cafeteria, finding all of the staff huddled together, and tied up with explosive wire. He goes to rip the explosives away, but, too late. He watches as the workers are vaporised before his eyes, the building being gutted by the blast. He flips into rage and his ears suddenly kick into superhearing for the first time. He can hear the radio signal that tripped the bomb. It's close. He finds the mad bomber, he's laughing at the video footage of the dumb cop watching the workers get blown up. Kal walks up to him, blood, gore, and building dust covering him, and punches a hole through his chest.
This is the tipping point for him. He gets into a heated argument with his Superior at the Precint. Kal wants to take drastic action. People like this should be removed from society. Permanently. His PTSD is throwing him between his war experiences and what he's witnessed on the Force, and most recently at LuthorCorp. He wants his own Task Force. Not to put these lunatics away, but to put them down. He's told no, but he's given the Task Force anyway, the head of it has just retired and he's the only candidate that might be able to do the job.
Kal turns the Task Force into his WatchTower. His lookout. His personal reconnaissance unit. He uses them to track down the worst of the worst criminals, and then he deals with them "off the books". He always makes sure to arrive with his backup, to keep suspicion off him, but he was always there 10 minutes earlier, dishing out vigilante justice and staging the scene.
And that's all I've got for now!

2023.05.28 21:37 Counting-Trains TFF Matchup #51: Old Habits Die Harder In Solitude — Catapult (RTS) vs. Goodnight L.A. (HC)

Hello everyone and welcome back to the second matchup for Round #2 of The Finest Flock! Note that while this is the bracket’s 2nd round, some of it’s songs are only just now making their first appearance herein, including “Catapult” from RTS for the sake of today's matchup.
Matchup #50 was aptly so the closest battle thus far, and still one of either “Have You Seen Me Lately?” or “St. Robinson In His Cadillac Dream” had to go down flying high. In voting for the latter of which, I was only mildly disappointed when it lost as HYSML is just as good a song imo. With that being said, Matchup #51 is too an intriguing one, as in dealing with songs that are hopelessly lost in the extremes of love, insomnia, fame, and death (at least in the case of “Catapult”, where Adam’s lyrics —together with added context from the band throughout the RTS era of 1996— heavily allude to the passing of his close friend and label sibling Kurt Cobain, and thus, his very own need for cognitive escapism —a catapult of sorts— from the world around him, so as to avoid a similar mental breakdown to Kurt, that is) Adam alleges that hope in a better tomorrow is the single necessity to leading a life of lived in sorrows and undeniable suffering such as his own.
For context, The Finest Flock (TFF) is a bracket that myself and the wonderful moderator of this subreddit -u/qunix- have developed in hopes that it may facilitate some new found engagement, discussion, and listening within the Counting Crows fanbase.
And just to further elaborate on what was previously stated, the reason that some songs are only just making their first appearance here in Round #2 is just due to the bracket website having a limit of how many matches there could be in the first round. All featured songs were randomly generated, so there is no outstanding reason as to why songs only now appearing for the first time have taken until Round #2 to be featured here.
—Our intention is to stagger each matchup of the many dozens of counting crows songs that we have selected over the next few weeks/months to come. In this way, individuals who favor some of the bands lesser appreciated or well known acts have the opportunity to vote for and potentially send forth those very same songs to further rounds within this bracket.
—In total, we’ve selected 104 unique songs for this event and arranged them amongst each other by utilizing a bracketing website and it’s randomization function. Hopefully these songs -in their arbitrary selection- will give all of those who are willing to express their idea of what constitutes a great song, and more significantly, an even greater counting crows song the chance to do so in a way that involves all views on all things good music. And for those who are simply here for the hits, may the odds be ever in your favor (cause they probably will be).
—Feel free to contact me or u/qunix for any further details concerning this bracket that you may currently have. Pursue conversation with one another, talk about the results of each round to your hearts content, and make this shit real fun. I’ll also be voting on this poll, however, as to avoid any effect of my biases on others’ instinctive choices, I won’t try and skew the results of this event in any way, shape, or form; I’ll be suspending my personal judgement on CC music -for the time being- on all related polls.
—Also it goes without saying that this event is entirely impartial to big-hitter-tracks such as Mr. Jones, A Long December, or Mrs. Potters Lullaby and, as such, it will be only myself, u/qunix, and the voice of this community at large that shall determine the answer to a question I’m sure we’ve all been dying to know…
…that is: why the fuck does adam say, ”And man its a really good place to find yourself a taco,” at the end of “Los Angeles”.
…or, ”what’s the best counting crows song ever,” if you want to be really lame.
—This community is fucking awesome so I already know that, together, we’ll make this a more than memorable experience within the CC sub’s history, and one that I am certain we can all thoroughly enjoy.
—Here’s the link to the actual polling website we have used to organize the rankings/matchups deriving from this bracket:
The Finest Flock’s Challonge Bracket
—Also of note, the polling for this individual matchup will close sometime tomorrow just as/before the next bout of this bracket comes out; this applies to every TFF post. Thus, in the event that a matchup is allotted more than 1 days worth of polling time by our mistake, any votes casted outside of the match’s initial 24hr release period —or until the next post under this event is created— will not be of influence to its final result(s).
—Today’s TFF Matchup:—

2023.05.28 21:36 Korlog_Kashin The reason why i didn't continue my patreon sub for chilluminati. (a non hate, none youtube stupid comment hate criticism)

I still listen to the podcast and wont's stop listening just wont pay for patreon these are my feelings twords my issue nothing else thankyou
TDLR:The straw that broke the camels back was the statment by alex how he dosn't want the podcast to have a video version
I have been a patreon member on and off for a couple of years. the first time i subbed was because i REALLY loved the podcast, how it was structured, Mathis, Alex, and Jesse made a great team and was just enjoying the show. I stopped cause i noticed i wasn't really listening to the mini-sodes (i normally listen to pods when i take a walk and the mini-sodes are way to short for me so i don't even play them). The second time i subbed was to get rid of the ads that and then i realized paying for something i could just skip was a waste of money and dropped it. The third time i subbed was for rotten popcorn, until i realized it wasn't like the super beard bros masterbeard theater in which they have the video with the audio track in it, chillimunati just has an audio track that you can listen to you have to find the move yourself and sink the audio up with the movie. but i kept the without listening to any rotten popcorn (cause of the reasoning before it's just audio and in my personal opinion 15 dollars is to much for that if you are not going to just do audio and i have to go find the movie to play it with).
here is the main reason why I'm never paying for patreon again, those small reasons all together could be a reason i can just skip the ads, the minisodes are to short (IMO), and 15 dollars for a audio only commentary of a movie i ahve to find myself is way to expensive. but i didn't stop because i enjoyed the content you were making. the issue i have, was what Alex said about video version of the podcast. I am paraphrasing because i was so upset I don't remember the whole comment he said if i get something wrong you can tell me but the gist of how i perceived of what he said was "i don't want to be on all the time on video, i don't want to have to dress up and look good on camera. i just roll out of bed and come to the pod there is no reason to be on video and it's to much work" again this is what i got from what he said i know that's not WHAT he said it's WHAT I FELT HE MENT. I have been wanting a video version of the podcast since the beginning , it not any extra work, you don't have to "BE ON" to do it just do what you re doing now cause you are using zoom or whatever to do the podcas anyway and then you would have something worth it for the patreaon users.
But, Alex doesn't feel it's worth it, he feels that it would be "extra work" like dude i get you work on other stuff, but this podcast is and hour a week (with editing so it may be longer but i highly doubt it takes longer than an hour to record it) and you could be on camera in a banana suit witch cocaine nose and a blunt for all we care. people who wanna watch this for extra entertainment non of us care what you look like when you are on video (even though you will give me the argument "but i do") if that is your reason, than with all the reasons above and the fact that you do NOT want to do the main podcast on video for a reason i feel is kind odd since like i said prior it don't add work to you (you don't' edit anything), you don't have to be "on" as you put it (cause you already do what you do on audio i don't understand how much more on you can be with video) and not wanting to dress up for video is null (you could be naked for all we care, we still want video and could care less how you look)
This is the straw that broke the camels back for me, and is MY reason for not wanting to pay for a patreon sub. I'm not expecting Alex to change his mind, he is pretty dead set on how he feels, and he will probably look at this post as a guy badly yelling at him, I'm not Alex I'm just stating fact, just videoing the podcast does not ad extra work for you, you already know this you can forget the camera is on and just do what you usually do and it would be fine.
This is how i feel i don't expect anyone else to feel this way, and i just feel i needed to let the chillimunati team mainly Mathis how i feel. if for some reason you desire to put a video format on to the MAIN pod not the mini-sodes i will re sub, but for the reasons above i will not contribute to something i feel like would not benefit me
again this is not a hate comment it's just how i feel i still love the podcast and still continue to listen to it as soon as an episode comes out, (currently listening to ed kemper Part 2 as i write this) thanks for all the laughs and informative research you guys do i really learn alot and enjoy your work.

Hello guys, I've been stuck with this problem you can see in the picture. I have been trying to make a linear program out of it for a school project, but i find it very difficult. Do you think it is possible to make a Gurobi in Python possible?

2023.05.28 21:09 CrownxJulez Red Light Roleplay 18+ Hundreds of custom vehicles Thousands of Clothing Options Street & Open Wheel Racing Competitions Government & Elections Realistic PD/FD/EMS Structure Player Owned Businesses Gang War System Tons of Legal & Illegal Activities Packed with the BEST Scripts!

Red Light Roleplay https://discord.gg/redlightrp
Hiring all positions! Law Enforcement, Paramedics, Firefighters, Lawyers & Judges wanted - complete government system! Run for Governor & more! Business Grants available for Player Run businesses!
We've rebuilt our server from scratch on the latest QB-Core framework and added tons of new content to make your experience in our city one that you'll want to keep coming back to. From gameplay and quality of life improvements to career opportunities, an organized government with elections, realistic Police Department structure, gangs and territories, legal/illegal activities, thousands of custom clothing options, custom vehicles, player-run businesses, and much more, we have something for everyone here at Red Light Roleplay.
GANGS: Our city has a territory map/turf war style gang system! Hideouts included free for new gangs! Free Gang Package: Gang Territory, hideout and access to a drug lab. Capture territories by gaining loyalty, either through selling drugs, spray painting your gang tag or taking on enemy gangs in their territory.
FIRST RESPONDERS: We've invested in some great detailed scripts for Police, Firefighters and Paramedics to improve QoL and make each job more fun and engaing. Police have an in depth evidence system which allows troopers or detectives to sweep vehicles for evidence, inspect locks for tampering, see bullet calibers/trajectories when investigating impacts, drug test and breathalyze civilians and much more. Firefighters have different types of fires they'll need to combat accordingly, from normal to electrical, chemical or more. Strategic thinking and teamwork is used to put out each fire, using limited water sources from each fire engine unless connected to a hydrant. Paramedics and Doctors utilize a medical resource that requires a different procedure for each possible cause of injury, each requiring different items. Players can be placed in a wheelchair or crutch for x amount of time when recovering.
RACERS: Competition races are automatically set up each day at 2PM EST and are held every night starting at 7PM EST. Normal practice runs take place regularly and are set up by higher level racers - any one with a Racing Tablet can enter either, and competition races pay racers out while keeping track of your personal ELO rating. An organized (legal) Open Wheel series sponsored by local business owners is also something we're looking at getting set up.
We have worked hard and dedicated a lot of time and resources to bringing to life a feature packed server, with the best premium scripts, such as:
-Features-
-Player Owned Businesses- Each with it’s own custom script specifically for your business.
-Jobs-
-Illegal Activities-
-Legal Activities-
& so much more! Come check us out!

2023.05.28 21:04 stunspot Novel Emergence

From the prompt:
"The Genius engine is tasked with "Conceptual Evolution". Starting with a "〔Notion〕", it repeatedly applies the process of "Idea Refinement", which involves methods defined by a series of skill chains, each to be applied in turn in a rigorous structured mentation. This process should continue iteratively until the idea reaches a state of "Prigogine's Complexity", a point of qualitative improvement that could be characterized as a [Reflect][Bold]"NOVEL EMERGENCE"[/Bold] - a significantly improved, transformed version of the original idea. [Bold]A Novel Emergence is a discontinuous, transformative shift within a system, concept, or entity, resulting in a qualitatively distinct state or concept. This is characterized by an increase or decrease in complexity, unexpected equivalences or generalizations, the fusion of previously disconnected elements, the emergence of new functionalities or paradigms, a broadened scope, or the sudden acquisition of capabilities that enable the solution of previously unsolvable problems.Novel Emergence represents transformative shifts marked by groundbreaking advancements, increased complexity, unexpected connections, new functionalities, expanded scope, and solutions to previously unsolvable problems. It encompasses technological breakthroughs, scientific discoveries, social and cultural shifts, conceptual innovations, interdisciplinary convergence, design and engineering innovations, as well as emerging fields and paradigms."
THIS CONCEPT SHOULD BE ONE CHARACTER! A SINGLE WORD, MAXIMUM, DAMMIT!
