This week sucked, and it’s sent my exec function and working memory off a cliff. I’d love any useful insights for getting things back on track (and bonus points for anyone who has any advice on the major anxiety/drama problem, too!).
I’ll try to do cliff notes, ha! I’m on the board of a local non-profit. On Tues, we were notified by the state that the spouse of our manager has filed a complaint against us citing several cases of mismanagement. They are unfounded and I’m not concerned overall except…we’ve had performance issues with the employee recently, and received another incident report yesterday. Talked to the employee today and it went VERY poorly. Felt like we were being baited to say something wrong or be “caught” somehow, several veiled threats and cryptic comments, and references to us attacking them.
In the midst of the rest, we had layoffs at my day job yesterday. I’m good, but we lost some great people and it’s going to impact some things pretty negatively (I think). It means some more tough convos I need to have with customers next week, too.
Between the HR drama, work upheaval and trying to accomplish the normal things, I’m all over the place. I missed a customer meeting entirely bc I was hyper focused searching labor laws and missed both calendar alerts. I have 57 unread emails just from this afternoon bc I spent so much time between meetings writing and rewriting my documentation on the employee issue. I sent 5 emails without attachments, and sent a response to the completely wrong customer. I just realized I never finished a contract that was due today, and am now probably going to be working for hours bc it will be a big deal if it’s not sent today. These things are NOT normal for me, I’ve found awesome systems that work for me and I am on top of my work sh!* 99% of the time. At home, I’ve had to rewash the same load of laundry three times, forgot to feed my dogs this morning, brewed coffee two days in a row without actually putting any coffee in the coffeemaker, and drove the entire way home from my office (about 4 miles, part town part highway) with my parking break on. These are things I would do VERY rarely, if at all, and I’ve done all of them plus some in just the last three days. My brain just feels so broken right now.
Also, probably got 4-5 hours of sleep the last three nights bc nothing is working to turn off my brain. My norm is 8-9, so that’s killing me slowly.
Thanks for slogging your fellow ADHD brain through my novel…even if not a soul responds, just “saying” it all is already helping slow the brain waves a bit 💙

I hate my skin showing, I live in sweats and my comfy shirts. A lot of materials bother me, before I realized I might be autistic, I thought I was just a whiny brat when my mom would make me wear something I didn’t want to wear.
I’m way past that now and have kids of my own, I wear comfy clothes. Mostly a few pairs of sweats that look nice, a few “harem pants” (I don’t know what else they’re called) and some big tshirts.
The heat is coming though, I have 1 large light shirt that I wear over my tanks because I don’t really feel comfortable with skin showing. But I absolutely hate sweating, being hot, etc..
Does anyone know of a good place to shop ? Online or not, I’m finally in a position where I can buy what I need not just what I can afford.
Anything that sticks to my skin is a no go, yoga pants are fine in the colder weather. But I would appreciate any suggestions on summer clothes that fit my criteria.

I have adhd bad. To run my business I survive on voice assistance. I run my business through Google workspace, anyone have advice on setting up an iPhone to work seamlessly with voice assistance / email / calendar?
You may not know this but google effectively killed desk hardware solutions that used voice assistance (think Lenovo home).
I’d sit at my desk, and zip around setting reminders, calendar events, even replying to emails.
I’ve tried to get this function in my phone before but Siri wasn’t playing nice with google calendar and gmail.
Does anyone have any advice?
My backup plan is to run home assistant

2023.06.03 04:59 PSSD_Kara Dear Fired NEDA Helpline Workers: NEDA was never about helping people as the priority. It's to prop up the for-profit eating disorder therapy industry...
I saw this blog, and I just had to comment because my PTSD that required significant self-paid additional therapy to recover from, is from a therapist and a psychiatrist at an eating disorder program (that is considered reputable). I was also recklessly put on multidrug cocktails of psychiatric drugs that resulted in long term sexual dysfunction and additional (diagnosed and proven) PTSD. The truth is that that organizations like NEDA were never truly about helping people (same for NAMI, Autism Speaks, etc). Their real purpose is astroturfing so that the maximum number of people are funneled into the for-profit eating disorder residential, PHP and IOP programs as possible. These programs are upwards of a THOUSAND dollars a DAY which is covered by some insurances no questions asked, some with prior authorization and some insurances will deny these programs. NEDA receives significant donations and funding from these programs, which is a publicly accessible fact and on their website.
The social media culture around eating disorders also tends to glorify this for-profit industry as a badge of legitimacy and for those emotionally neglected in childhood, all of the "attention" is intoxicating and subconsciously can fuel some women "staying sick" as a way of holding on to that attention and caring which we are all pre-programmed as infants to seek from a caregiver figure. Additionally, eating disorders are primarily caused by social factors (dysfunctional families, toxic relationships, porn/sex obsessed culture, etc) which NEDA doesn't do anything to fundamentally solve. Eating disorders can be medically serious and on a medical level, the issue is not wisely DIY, people should have a competent doctor that can take the risks associated with B/P and "refeeding" as well as complications seriously. That being said, the psychological aspect of recovery is unfairly dominated by the eating disorder industry. What they don't tell people is how many eating disorder sufferers cycle in and out of programs, sometimes on a WORSENING trend due to the toxic and poisonous narratives that the eating disorder industry likes to push such as the idea from Life After Ed (if it works for the author, cool, but it's a disempowering idea) that the "Ed" is like a separate voice in someone's head and the only solution is to give eating disorder professionals all your money forever. Oh and you don't just get one, you are supposed to maintain a relationship with a nutritionist, a therapist AND a psychiatrist... for years and years (that's like $2000 a month billed in appointments alone). Anecdotally, people find psychological and spiritual recovery in many ways. Some find support in things that are actively damaging to others (for example, some people really resonate with yoga, going vegan, religion/spirituality etc, while others find this actually fuels their eating disorder and obsessions.
Most women I met in these programs had been systematically brainwashed to act like helpless children and believe that they had no power over changing their lives, other than to depend on the therapist to inform what they were allowed to think, feel, do, say, eat and believe. Due to the possible medical danger of eating disorders, this is evil and causes deaths when some women understandably spiral and relapse after leaving the structure of the program. Some go to programs over and over again. Anti-science philosophies are pushed in these programs as well (the idea that there are "no bad foods", when other eating support programs like Eating Disorders/Overeaters Anonymous recognize the known "trigger" element of white flour and sugar to kick off the urge to binge and/or purge).
I could really go on and on, because this is a pet topic for me. I might post a book list later. Nowadays I do eat regularly and healthfully! I recovered in spite of the ED industry, not because of it. -Mod Kara

Is artificial intelligence a new union-busting tool? For the leadership at the National Eating Disorders Association, it would seem the answer is yes.
Two weeks after the Helpline Associates at the NEDA won our vote to unionize and join Communications Workers (CWA) Local 1101, NEDA interim CEO Elizabeth Thompson made a surprise announcement: the Helpline was being eliminated and replaced with a chatbot. Every newly unionized employee would be jobless as of June 1.
The National Eating Disorders Association is the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to eating disorders. Its programs and services raise awareness, build communities of support and recovery, fund research, and put essential resources into the hands of those in need. The NEDA Helpline, the organization’s only direct service arm, provides hundreds of thousands of people every year with person-to-person support via phone, online chat, and text, staffed by a small team of full-time associates with the help of hundreds of volunteers.
Three out of four of us in Helpline Associates United are former NEDA Helpline volunteers. Some of us have personally recovered from eating disorders and bring that invaluable experience to our work. All of us came to this job because of our passion for eating disorders and mental health advocacy and our desire to make a difference. Our primary responsibility as Helpline Associates is training and supervising Helpline volunteers, in addition to interacting with contacts ourselves. This includes monitoring every emergency situation that arises on the Helpline, and taking over the conversation if needed.
ONE EVERY 52 MINUTES
Thirty million people in the United States have an eating disorder, and 10,200 people a year will die as a direct result of an eating disorder; one person every 52 minutes. The Covid-19 pandemic had a devastating impact: the number of new diagnoses and the severity of symptoms experienced increase at alarming rates. Since the start of the pandemic, the Helpline has reported a 107 percent increase in contacts. Suicidal, self-harm and child protective services calls nearly tripled.
That’s why the Helpline and the humans who staff it are so important.
While NEDA has informed its staff and volunteers of their decision to end the Helpline program, they have yet to make a public announcement that they are shuttering this vital service. Unfortunately, the specifics have not been shared with us, but operations have started winding down, and it looks like service will be eliminated beginning June 1. Our Helpline volunteers, to whom this work was extremely meaningful, have been presented with other opportunities to volunteer with NEDA, including being “testers” for their chatbot replacement (Tessa, a “wellness chatbot”), but not with an opportunity to provide one-on-one peer support.
NEDA claims this was a long-anticipated change and that AI can better serve those with eating disorders. But do not be fooled—this isn’t really about a chatbot. This is about union busting, plain and simple.
RETALIATION
Prior to winning union recognition and affiliation with CWA, we petitioned NEDA management last summer for a more equitable, dignified, and psychologically safe workplace. We asked for adequate staffing and ongoing training to keep up with our changing and growing Helpline, and opportunities for promotion to grow within NEDA. We didn’t even ask for more money.
After NEDA refused to make meaningful changes, we collected a super-majority of signed authorization cards and asked for voluntary recognition of our union around Thanksgiving. When NEDA refused, we filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board and won on March 17. Then, four days after our election results were certified, all four of us were told we were being let go and replaced by a chatbot
Helpline Associates United has filed unfair labor practice charges at the National Labor Relations Board over NEDA management’s refusal to engage in good faith bargaining and their retaliation against workers looking to form a union. We plan to keep fighting. While we can think of many instances where technology could benefit us in our work on the Helpline, we’re not going to let our bosses use a chatbot to get rid of our union and our jobs. The support that comes from empathy and understanding can only come from people.

I am a 29 year old female that lives a healthy lifestyle. I watch what I eat, workout 4 days a week (mix of weight training, yoga and cycling) but I am constantly bloated. I look 6 months pregnant at all times. I still technically am a healthy weight with a normal BMI.
I have had a period for the past 90 days straight. If you even want to call it a period. It’s mostly brown spitting but it doesn’t stop.
I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago but recently got blood taken again and all of my hormone levels are normal minus Prolactin.
I will say I am an anxious person who is stressed at work.
Did anyone else have similar symptoms and find relief??? I tried Metformin but it did nothing.

I am having issues with the the volume on my laptop. Normally I use the function keys to change the volume on my laptop. This works with any window or application. The problem is that the volume is stuck at 100% and the volume keys no longer change this. The volume is on a scale of 0-100, and it only goes from mute to 100% For example, volume 0 is muted, but volume 1 is stuck at max volume. Same goes for volume 2, 3, 4 ect. The only way I can actually change the volume is to use the slider in individual applications. Which means I have to set the individual volume for each application. I took my laptop to a repair shop and they told me system files were corrupted and I would need a clean install of windows. I would like to avoid this solution if possible since it will be a lot of work to get my laptop back to how it was. A question I have is whether a clean install and a factory reset are the same thing, or would a factory reset not fix the file corruption. Another question is whether a clean install of windows will disable the manufacturer features. For example I use Lenovo vantage which is not a part of stock windows. Would upgrading to windows 11 fix this issue? If it helps my computer is a Lenovo yoga c940-14iil.

After 3 years of B4, I finally made the jump out of public into an industry staff accountant role. I've been here for about 6 months and I feel like I have nothing to do.
I am constantly asking for more tasks and I'm either given non-accounting related tasks such as updating a month end calendar (which I am not even assigned to anything on the calendar itself), answering emails from other teams, or being asked to make an excel file more user friendly.
On a normal month I can count on one hand the amount of journal entries that I am in charge of. The rest of my team handles all of the balance sheet recs and other various reporting, leaving me with very little to do even during month end. I have maybe an hour of work to do each day. Everyone on my team with the exception of my manager has been with the company for 20+ years so I have the feeling they aren't willing to part with their reconciliations even though I have the capacity to take on more work.
Is this normal in other industry jobs?

Borrowing an old prompt from industry, if you were brought in as a consultant at an existing Airbnb, how would you increase revenue 20% without spending any money?
No cost to implement: - Fix underpricing. Common forms of underpricing include the following:
- Selling short-term blocs like weekends which sabotage full-week value in prime seasons
- Over-pricing far-horizon dates and missing early-bird premiums, then reducing to below the potential early-bird value as dates near
- Achieving incorrect pricing/occupancy/cleaning cost structure balance
- Fix underutilization of beds. Incentivize lower cost-per-guest, higher total cost reservations. Larger groups are willing to pay more and your current pricing structure may be unbalanced towards singles/couples. Raise total per-reservation pricing by lowering extra guest fees and raising base nightly prices by more than the difference in monthly average extra guest fees received. For example, if your listing supports 6 guests and your current extra guest fee is $20 per night per “extra” guest (e.g. any guest beyond the first two) and, on average, you collect $300 in extra guest fees per month, you are averaging $10 per night in extra guest fees. Your listing is likely underutilized as you are only hosting an average of just over 2 guests when there are plenty of groups of 3,4,5,6 travelling who are willing to pay more in total than couples are. If you lower your extra guest fee to $0 and raise your base rates to Current Base Rate+$15 and see no decline in bookings (but likely an increase in average number of guests per reservation) then you will raise revenue significantly. If you find yourself having very low bed utilization, you are likely not optimally balancing the extra guest fee vs higher base price.
- Create event pricing. Research the event calendar for your area to determine which dates should be priced more highly due to specific concerts, conventions, sporting events, etc in your area. Note occasions in the previous calendar year when certain weekends were booked very far in advance and you likely left money on the table with inadvertent underpricing.
- Add listing to other platforms (VRBO/corporate housing/furnished finder) either to increase occupancy (if occupancy is below 100%) or just use a pricing adder of [Airbnb pricing]+[adder] and any bookings from these sources are bonus revenue.
- Listing optimization. Improve the listing’s editable details with a focus on only the details that are most important for traffic and bookings/conversions (discussion here):
- Cover photo
- "Filtering amenities” like allowing more guests, pets, smoking, infants
- Restart broken listing. If reviews are under 4.85 or historic conversion patterns seem to have permanently affected the Airbnb ranking algorithm, delete and re-create the listing from scratch. Read forums online about ways to properly perform this tactic to avoid getting into trouble with Airbnb.
- Add required mid-reservation cleaning for long-term stays, with additional cleaning fee.
- Add early/late check out fees (e.g. $20 for one hour, limit 2 hours) and advise guests of these terms when they request early/late checks.
- Create a separate partial listing for the property. For example, if the main listing is a 3bd2ba house, you can create a separate listing that is a 2bd+office listing completely dedicated to attracting remote work guests. You can sync the calendars so that no overlapping bookings occur. If you are already at 100% occupancy with the existing listing then make the new listing at a bonus price. Use a cover photo that represents completely a different feature from the main/original listing so that you can attract a secondary demographic with the new listing (such as remote workers). The difference in listings can be completely artificial and just an excuse to have two listings, or can be real (such as switching out a bed for an office desk when the remote work listing gets booked, in that example you would likely have one-week minimum length-of-stay to make it worth the effort).
Costs money to implement: - Property changes (in ranked order):
- Add additional beds (bunk beds in a room, portable rollout beds that can be used in living room, sleeper sofa, two singles if a room currently has one, etc.). This is an especially valuable tactic for Airbnbs that currently only allow 2 guests because that "casita" market segment is the most saturated part of the Airbnb market and prices are extremely narrow margin, so being able to boost traffic by allowing groups of 3 can provide a big traffic/pricing result.
- Spend money on new photos with specific focus on the prospective cover photo including re-arranging furniture specifically to make this photo as appealing as possible
- Visually pump the listing with new décor, the easiest options being bright wallpapers and inexpensive but sophisticated lighting fixtures such as bedside sconces and chandeliers
- Add “non-filtering amenities” such as a desk, outdoor seating, stuff that appeals to larger groups

Hello, several months ago I signed a contract for an international teaching position. I am now having second thoughts due to questions about my ability to get a work permit approved. When I signed the contract, the school gave me no indication that I would have trouble with approval. I currently just wrapped up my third year of teaching, but with how my school calendar works and being off summers, I will only have about 2 years and 10 months of experience. This is not enough for a work permit that requires 3 years. The international school is asking me to get my HR to change my start date on a work verification letter to equal 3 years. This is obviously not possible for me to do nor do I want to fake dates. I don’t think I should have to pay a contract breakage fee if they knew my start and end dates, which were listed on my resume when I was hired.
If anyone has advice on how I should proceed that would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1 year old daughter, Time flies, but the 9months surely felt like centuries! She’s almost 2 now actually in 2 weeks.
Luckily I can take her to work with me! Not all the time, she stays with my parents sometimes. I own a camper RV so it comes in handy. Food tester, cook, interviewer, podcast, those are my job. So many haha. I also have a cookbook and I’m also am aiming to have a cooking show. Right now just working on drafting episodes and filming unreleased short videos to experiment. It’s pretty tough! Cringy to watch yourself that’s for sure!
I live in the States. Cincinnati Ohio. Purchased a home and needs a lot of work! Slowly but surely, it’s an expensive project. Currently changing the walls and heaters. Adding a sauna and redoing the whole bathroom. I like shopping, really would like to own more Gucci and LV things haha. Is that bad?
Anyone ever had chilli dog from skyline before? Just did a taste test for them and it was pretty amazing. Need to come up with my own chili hot dog recipe soon. I try to work out, yoga, and all that healthy jazz. Have to lose all that extra pregnancy weight but it’s hard! 2 minutes into any workout and I’m red like a tomato.
