Score at my local Savers

2023.06.03 06:38 Pap2017 Score at my local Savers

I don’t normally go to Savers as their prices tend to be high for donated goods, usually hit my local Salvation Army or pawn shops. Been looking for SVU seasons, haven’t been successful in over a year of looking until today. Was going to Harbor Freight and next door is Savers, I thought why not drop in and check out what they have. Got excited when I saw the Law & Order font, turned out it was L & A Criminal Intent got bummed for a moment. But then I saw the original Law & Order TV show and I knew I had to keep looking. I found brand new still sealed Law & Order SVU seasons 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. I was hoping to find more but I was happy to find what I did. Each season for $5.99.

2023.06.03 05:40 Top-Repair-955 Hello I need advice on my trade/contractor resume

Small Story Rant: Hi I rarely ever get callbacks after applying to jobs of anykind. Recently though through a friend i got a painting job for $22/H they never asked for a resume and i think i am the lowest paid worker they have, (i think their minimum is $23.5) but i was pretty deperate for a job so i took it. They already increased my pay by $1 (it was $21), the company also does pay under average, anyways its spring/summer and because of that I thnk I have alot of leverage in my market, as the hot season for painting is during the summer, I want to be paid above average a bit at $27/h and in the past have been up up to 30/h or nightshift for 40/h in my field.
My resume: My current template goes like this
Objective: Seeking a position that will allow me to have strong communication skills, work ethic, and ability to work well in a team to contribute to company success.
Skills:
  1. Communications: Excellent presentation skills, written and verbal
  2. Solid Time Management
  3. Bilingual (Spanish)
  4. Fast Learner
  5. Hard Worker
  6. Creative and Adaptive (Problem Solver)
  7. Teamplaye Leader
Experience:
2015-2020 Commercial painting
I was around 15ish when i started as an apprentice and I was employed by alot of different companies during this time some as little as 2 week (i think as a subcontactor) but it was pretty independent work but my summary is:
Consisted of Manual Labor, Moving Equipment and supplies, Cleaning sites, Taping, Scraping, Sanding, Painting, and Varnish in a predominantly Outdoor environment consisting of Fences, Decks, Doors, Trim, and Stucco painting (using a Paint sprayer)
Then I decided to work for 1 company for a year because i realized i couldn put the above on a resume properly
Painting Company 2019-2020
Interior painting (idk what else to but that was really all i did and i added the other things i did to my previous)
I got tired of painting after like my 18th bday and was really depressed cuz of covid and stuff and took a long haitus and decided i wanted to try other industries so my next job was
Job at healthcare facility as servehousekeeper october-may
Worked isolated and independently; preparing and Serving food, Setting tables, Sweeping, Dishwashing, and Housekeeping.
But recently ive been self employed a bit trying differnt industries ( i was an apprentice for this in one of my other jobs but never added it)
Self employed wallpapering @ differnt places (i have them named but dont feel comfortable sharing)
Feb-September 2022
Worked in a pair to create beautifully wallpapered rooms
Volounteer
2 Places 2018-2019
Availability
ALL WEEK ALL DAY (Can do nightshift)
Education
Highschool
Refrences
Available upon request
I have no refrences noone has ever asked and i never added them because i dont keep track of numbers and have noone to vouch for me im also super uncomfortable adding them tbh (not cuz im a bad worker i just have a bad upbringing and get anxiety when people ask about me or my life)
and thats it I havent added my current company though
I have about 7 years of experience in Painting
1.5 Years in Wallpapering
and i was an apprentice last summer for Tiling and flooring for like 3 months (just tiles tbh but on the floor) I didnt add it though ebcause i felt it was useless to add since no job would hire me as a tiler with a 3 month apprentership so never added it
During covid though i was fired twice but only during trainings and never added it to my resume (I was extremely depressed and it was a struggle getting out of bed and it was really hard to motivate myself to go do mundane tasks for 8 hourrs and bus for an hour or 2 for a few bucks)

I also need a resume template because my resume is white and red and i dont think its a good template but i would prefer one that would somehow highlight my more relvent experience and not go mumbo jumbo everywhere :/ I just want one so i can see if i can get a higher paying job and just switch but also recently tried starting a business (that is currently burning to the ground and taking me with it) so i also want to work less hours but thats negotiable tbh working about 70-88/h (mostly 88) biweekly worked 100 one time though and usually work 10H/Day cuz i want to have friday sat sun off.
Also im in Canada if that helps cuz the flare asked for location but i have a question or something i guess

tldr: need resume template and help formatting//

2023.06.03 04:40 chuckc342 Painted Reflectors

Has anyone played with painted reflectors? Some searching just gives me one person trying it on a AA Maglite.
A little research is telling me that a good white paint can easily beat an aluminium coated reflector in terms of % light reflected: so I'm not worried about light loss (should I be?).
It feels like it might be an easy way to get a mule/cell phone like profile. The pictures sort of look like a dual stage mule (the rings coming from the lights aperture I guess).
Though I'm having a hard time picking a paint. The only paints that actually quote reflectance values are house paints, and I don't want to buy in that quantity, nor do I think latex is the right choice here.

2023.06.03 03:06 NoEscapeGray Messy store

Looking for suggestions. The Manager at my store will just put freight away in any spot available on the sales floor, regardless of what the tags say. I've spent time organizing sections of the store so that I can easily identify what I have, what I'm out of, and so that I can put shit away quicker, but manager just messes it back up. If there is an empty spot with a tag, Manager will stick the most random shit in to fill the gap, like a quart of stain in the interior paints section or roller covers thrown on the shelves instead of hung. They're the boss and I'm over trying to fix their store but it stresses me out.

Built a closet for a customer and I'm not sure if I'm being too picky with the painter..
So I built this pretty big closet for one of my clients, it's all made out of ¾ birch and faced with 1×2 poplar. After the structure was built, I went through and sanded everything with 100 grit. Then 180 grit on the orbital. Vacuumed everything thoroughly, and tack clothed every square inch 2 days later after the dust settled, just before the painter showed up.
Everything seemed good, he Primed and had to sand after the primer, SW pro block. There were a lot of rough spots. Then 2 coats of paint, SW emerald semi gloss.
I just went though to inspect as he was asking for payment, and I found a lot of rough spots that needed sanding, some drips, and it looked like the whole thing had a rolled on texture. I expected it to come out flat since he has a nice sprayer. I've never used this painter before, but he came with a strong referral. He also wasn't the cheapest quote I had.
The rough spots are an easy fix, sanding and touchups. Same with the drips. But am I crazy to think that this texture should not be there using a sprayer? I feel like I can do the same thing with a roller, and it would look exactly the same. He swears he Sprayed it, and bought a new nozzle just before the job.
What are your thoughts? Too picky? Or the whole thing needs to be sanded and re Sprayed?
Nevermind the circled shelf. That has nothing to do with the paint issues I'm having.

What i did with an old propeller... no propellers harmed!
What to do with a 9'-6" wood propeller?
I bought the propeller of a 1918 Curtis H.16 seaplane from an auction in Hittown Bucks Co., outside Philly. I paid $400 and lugged this thing around for 12 years. I finally built my own garage and went to a welder to fab the center post for me. The mount is screwed in right and you cannot feel it spin when standing on the floor above it. It spins at about 150 rpm now but needs a little more to feel the air move. The motor is a high torque low RPM that i got off amazon. I just upgraded, for 1/8th the price, to a urethane belt from twist lock belt(s) from Harbor freight. The urethane was odd the weld closed but was easy with two clamps and a piece of angle iron. No holes were drilled and all attachment is through the exisiting holes.
This post is just to gloat really, I love this fan, it is one of the best things I have done in this garage...
But to satisfy the history flair... I have seen one other of these propellers, both in Bucks County auctions. 100 years ago they flew these planes off the Delaware river down by the current Philadelphia Airport. There is a website, historic aerials . Com where you can go back in time from the air. The Philadelpia airports is very cool to see. The UPS terminal was part of the river in the late 30's and full of future lend lease destroyers.

2023.06.03 01:00 Fun_Reference_179 Painting over interior painted CMU

My wife's classroom is painted cmu with a gloss finish, I don't think it's latex paint with it being interior walls but it could be. What procedures do we need to take to painting one wall? I'm having a hard time finding resources online for interior based cmu. We aren't trying to repair instead just change paint color of the wall. Any suggestions on what type of paint works best on the uneven surface, not really needing high durability or uv protection. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

2023.06.03 00:53 ComedianReady1908 Need some advice my friends.

I’m a furniture builder of the farmhouse style and I would like to find some help with choosing the right tool for the job. In my business I use a graco cordless sprayer for spraying cabinet latex paint for all the table legs or chairs I finish. I also have some experience with auto paint and powder coating in a commercial setting. That being said , I also share a business with a partner that does home renovations . We have a customer that has a large kitchen that he wants all cabinets refinished. The top cabinets are white color and the material is tinted lacquer or similar material and the lacquer bottom cabinets will be refaced in maple and stained using a spray stain and clear. I purchased all doors for this job from Elias cabinets (Home Depot sub contractor for their cabinets they sell) I purchased these doors directly from Elias and had them finish the top doors and bottom ones . I will be finishing the cabinets for upper (white tinted lacquer ) and the bottom cabinets stain/ clear. I got the bottom taken care of and I know what to use. But the top I want to ask what gun to use on them and do you recommend one. Being that I’m only painting the front frames of these cabinets and a few sides , I need something with the lowest over spray and a small narrow pattern with good control over paint volume. These cabinets are many and has about 80 doors so that gives you a idea of the size of the job and again only the 1.5 inch frame in the front of kitchen cabinets are getting sprayed. The manufacture of the doors said a hvlp or lvlp gun is what they use in production. These cabinets are being sprayed in the home so I will tent the whole kitchen well. What gun would you buy for this job. Thank you!

2023.06.02 22:18 for_the_longest_time 3 or 6 ton jack stands?

Today, I went in to Harbor Freight to buy my 3 ton jack stands with the Pittsburgh low profile jack. I noticed that the 3 ton stands on go up to 16 7/8”. I am replacing some jack stands that went up to about 14”. When I was replacing my rack and pinion in my van, I didn’t feel like I had ample head space and it made me frustrated.
Would it be overkill to buy the 6 ton jack stands with the Daytona low profile jack instead? The 6 ton seem to reach almost 24”, which sounds amazing.
Advice is much appreciated!

2023.06.02 20:43 indiedsoul Why TF is my paint sprayer spraying globs?!?!

Why TF is my paint sprayer spraying globs?!?!
My partner and I are attempting to spray primer (KILZ Adhesion) to the walls of our camper. We have done all the prep (sand, clean, now priming), and we have used the detail sprayer on other walls seamlessly, so we know it’s not the walls that are causing this.
The large, FLEXio590 keeps spraying these huge paint globs that are sagging (I had a f*** it moment and painted part of a wall with the thick droplets, that’s why I have the pictures). We have diluted the primer as indicated by the label and the KILZ website, we also just tried the primer alone, and both methods aren’t working. We’ve adjusted our the settings on the trigger (material flow control) AND the power dial. The only things we found to get the sprayer to spray AT ALL, is that it has to be higher on the flow control and low/medium on the power dial.
We are so frustrated at this point. We’ve been spraying for 2 days with the detail sprayer and aren’t done… How is it possible for a 200 sq/ft area to take 2 days SPRAYING?!?? Please help. As of now we’re planning to roll the rest of our walls and ceiling but I feel like it will turn out patchy because we are inexperienced at painting. Ugh.

2023.06.02 19:39 Maranello88 Opinions on Harbor Freight’s Welders

Would really appreciate some feedback on which direction to go here…I took some MIG classes and would like to continue practicing my technique.
The guy who taught me didn’t speak too highly of Harbor Freight’s welders, but he also has top of the line equipment.
I was using gas, so I’d like to be able to continue that unless y’all have different opinions? Obviously the price of HF’s unit is much easier to swallow for such a new hobbie. What say you? Thanks!

2023.06.02 18:50 Asakara1 PSA: Warehouses can connect goods from different lines in cities using separate stations

Greetings all! I found out that you can use warehouses to pass goods to separate stations in a city.
Here is a scenario: You have a freight line connecting 2 cities, City 1 Station 1 and City 2 Station 1. City 1 has grain near by. You have a separate train line with a separate station going to pick up the grain to deliver it back to City 1 via City 1 Station 2. So how do you get the grain from City 1 to City 2 without connecting the grain line into City 1's main station? Warehouses! Place a warehouse in City 1 Station 1 and City 1 Station 2 both set to store grain. The warehouses will transfer the grain from Station 2 to Station 1 automatically. City 1 Station 1 can now deliver grain to City 2 Station 1.
Here is an MS Paint image I made to help visualize the scenario above: https://imgur.com/J2MpUKf
I hope that helps.

an Euskotren work train passing through Basauri, south of Bilbao, northern Spain
this train consists of one locomotive pulling two cars, each one with a container full of white paint and a generator to power the sprayers. they will be painting the rails in white to prevent them from expanding excessively due to high temperatures and provoking sun kinks that might derail trains. this is the first time a spanish railway uses this process, but it's quite common in Italy

2023.06.02 16:36 QueenOfShadows1991 Strange spots on bathroom cabinets

We’ve lived in this house for a little over two years. The previous owners “flipped” the home. It was originally built in 1957 in central NC.
We use a floor unit dehumidifier due to a lack of windows where the shower is and the vent/fan being quite small.
Fairly recently we noticed these odd orange-ish spots only on the cabinets. I tried cleaning them off with water and had no luck. Some of them the paint has peeled off. I also noticed the bubbling and stickiness of the paint.
I assume it’s maybe latex paint. Any help on identifying this problem and potential solutions would be greatly appreciated.

2023.06.02 16:22 AncientJellyBean Tool Recommendations

Hello everyone, I am a relatively new woodworker looking to improve my carving skills. I have a project I’d like to proceed with where I carve ceremonial masks from some of my local tree species. I really enjoy carving without machinery and only using hand tools. The current small set I bought from Harbor Freight doesn’t work too well. What would you all recommend for quality hand carving tools? For a mask, what kind of tools might be needed? The work I see on this subreddit inspires me to keep carving, you are all amazing artists. Thank you!

2023.06.02 16:06 0hhkayyla Predator 3500 Inverter

Predator 3500 Inverter
My model is different than the online manuals and YouTube videos. My oil fill door is on the same side as the starter handle and all manuals and videos have them on opposite sides.
Anyway, my generator won’t start because the low oil light is on after doing my 100hr oil change (96hrs). Videos and comments on my other post suggested taking the case off and unplugging the oil sensor. I can’t find it, it doesn’t look the same as the videos and I haven’t found a connector that detaches. Also this mf has screws on so tight I’m not able to take the case off all the way on one side, (yes I used a drill)
I’m about to drive to Harbor Freight and get a replacement with my warranty but I’m so frustrated that this oil sensor issue will be a reoccurring issue when I do oil changes in the future.
