2023.05.28 22:29 nightwitch58 What GPU should I get?

Probably a boring post, since asked all the time, but still, I need to start somewhere and get opinions:
I'm currently running a Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080S waterforce. A solid GPU that served me well for many years, but now it's just not enough anymore for the games I run.
Those are open-world RPGs, but mostly flight-sims like DCS world in VR, which are very demanding.
I ran a GTX 1080 before, the next obvious choice would be the new TX 4080, but that's out of question, since I'm not willing to pay more than 1.000€ for a single piece of hardware.
Atm. I'm struggling between the RTX 4070ti or a used RTX 3090/RTX 3090ti. (All options watercooled only)
I'd favour the 4070ti, but I'm aftaid that only 12gb of Vram are just not enough for the near future, especially for simulators like DCS, which are not very optimized and require lots of Vram in VR.
So, given those facts, which GPU would you recommend? Please don't suggest any AMD-cards or anything more expensive than 1.000€.

2023.05.28 22:25 TechTaxi "MSI 4070 Ti Ventus 2X" and "MSI 4070 Ventus 3X+" Before/After Benchmarks

Hey guys, I'm rather late on this post ever since the original teaser images due to medical issues and being busy with work, but I'm back with the before/after benchmarks of the "MSI 4070 Ventus 3X+" and "MSI 4070 Ti Ventus 2X". To make up for the delay, I've added gaming tests to my benchmarking suite as opposed to just using synthetic loads and have included more detailed data as well.
I always thought that the lack of a small, dual slot card for higher end 40 series GPUs was disappointing. While the Inno3D 4070 Ti X3 is a great dual slot option, it doesn't fit in smaller cases like the Velka 5 and Velka 7. So I made my own "MSI 4070 Ti Ventus 2X" by heat sink swapping to get 3090 Ti level performance in a compact package.
* I have done other thermal testing/comparisons so here are my other various write ups if you're interested.
Here are the results and some images of the teardown/swap:
Stock MSI 4070 Ventus 2X Teardown
\"MSI 4070 Ventus 3X+\" w/ 0.5g of TG-PP10 thermal putty on each of the VRM/DrMOS and 1.25g on each VRAM chip. Noctua NH-T2 thermal paste is on the GPU die.

Stock MSI 4070 Ti Ventus 3X Teardown
\"MSI 4070 Ti Ventus 2X\" w/ 0.5g of TG-PP10 thermal putty on each of the VRM/DrMOS and a copper shim on each VRAM chip. Noctua NH-T2 thermal paste is on the GPU die, and also serves as the interface between the copper plate and VRAM/heat sink.
  • Take note that three DrMOS on the stock Ventus 2X heat sink have no cooling solution. So, 8.8 x 8.8mm aluminum heat sinks with thermal adhesive tape were added as an upgrade. If you intend on doing this yourself, 1.5mm thick copper shims were used and high temperature resistant kapton tape needs to be applied to the area around the VRAM to prevent potential shorts. Also, the TG-PP10 thermal putty on the VRM/DrMOS is discontinued, but I have some extra leftover.
  • Also, the fans of the Ventus 2X heat sink needed to be rewired to be split into two separate connectors using a JST PH 2.0 crimp kit. While the fans of the Ventus 3X needed to be joined via a custom splitter made using a different kit to work with the 4070 PCB's single fan header.
  • In addition, a small slit needed to be cut on one of the heat sink fins to accommodate the 12VHPWR connector of the 4070 Ti due connector being flipped compared to the 8 pin connector of the original 4070 PCB. As a result, a small flat tool needs to be used to detach the 12VHPWR connector, as seen in the image below, which is a mild inconvenience.

  • Bold = Best Result while Italicized = Worst Result
  • Tests were done with a 5900X (PBO2 Undervolt @ -20) in a regular mid-tower case with the tempered glass side panel off for reduced airflow restrictions and increased thermal performance. The fans were set at constant 100% speed throughout the tests and time was taken for the GPUs to cool in between tests.
  • The overclocked tests were done with MSI Afterburner using a +1000 MHz offset on the VRAM and +100 MHz on the core. While the undervolted tests were done with the core voltage/frequency curve adjusted to 2600MHz after 900mV (like in this video) and a +1000 MHz offset on the VRAM.
  • Synthetic benchmark (3DMark/Furmark) results recorded the max temperature during the benchmark period while the gaming benchmark (OW2/Cyberpunk 2077) results recorded an average over the duration of the benchmark.
  • Overwatch 2 was run using ultra settings @ 1440p for 30 minutes. While the Cyberpunk 2077 test was run using overdrive settings @ 1440p with path tracing on and DLSS 3.0 (Balanced) for 3 cycles.
Unsurprisingly, the results show that the swapped "4070 Ventus 3X+" had ~8°C lower core and ~10°C lower VRAM temps on average compared to the stock 4070 Ventus 2X. However, the differences in the 3DMark Time Spy graphics score and FPS are negligible between stock and swapped.
When it comes to the 4070 Ti thermal results, the "4070 Ti Ventus 2X" had ~10°C higher core and ~5°C higher VRAM temps on average compared to the stock 4070 Ti Ventus 3X in the OC/stock tests. In the undervolted tests, the difference changes to ~6°C higher core and ~2°C higher VRAM temps on average.
When it comes to the 4070 Ti undervolted vs. OC benchmarks, there was an average power consumption decrease of ~70W/~36% in the gaming tests and an average power consumption decrease of ~105W/~37% in the synthetic tests when undervolted. In terms of FPS, there was a reduction of 15 FPS/~7.5% in the gaming tests and a reduction of 25 FPS/~10% in the synthetic tests when undervolted.

In conclusion, the custom swapped "MSI 4070 Ti Ventus 2X" runs completely fine and at reasonable temperatures while gaming at an average of 61.2°C. Although setting the GPU fan at 100% and testing in a non-enclosed setup isn't realistic to most builds, the increase in temperature would likely not exceed the 84°C GPU thermal limit. The scenario where things can get dicey is if the GPU was running repeated synthetic loads at ~280W in a enclosed SFF case with a limited fan curve, since Furmark reached 77.6°C with optimal testing parameters. However, this can be rectified by applying an undervolt that cuts power consumption by ~105W.
Thus a dual slot, two fan 4070 Ti from factory *could have been possible* (**if it shipped with a lower factory vBIOS power limit to accommodate for high synthetic loads), but manufacturers chose to restrict smaller 40 series GPUs to 4070 or lower class cards.
If you're interested, I'm selling the "MSI 4070 Ti Ventus 2X" at cost for SFF enthusiasts who want to build in the Velka 5, Velka 7, Dan A4, ZS-A4S, etc. but don't have experience/aren't comfortable with GPU modding. That's all, thanks for reading my rather long write-up!

2023.05.28 22:25 Euphoric_Clock2366 Getting ahead and getting wealthier

Hello entrepreneurs,
I am an 18 years old student currently studying finance and accountancy.
I’m extremely fascinated in the world of entrepreneurship. I try to improve myself everyday by understanding accounting concepts and the economic machine.
I know that there are 100 ways to make 100 millions. But the question is how do I start?
Everyone tells me to live my youth but I’m afraid that my youth will end and I will have to face reality.
My questions are:
What should be my priority at this age? I know that university education can be useful and I will continue with it but other than that what should be my main priorities?
I’m applying to internships (even unpaid) to get a sense of how the real work life looks like, is there anything more useful I can do instead of internships?
I know that your network = your net worth, how do I network with people? Most people my age are only interested in time wasting activities and useless partying.
I’m always looking for an advice, so please give me any valuable advice given my circumstances.
Thank you very much in advance!

2023.05.28 22:22 slugalicious RX 6600 Games won't boot on this GPU

First build with my son. Everything works great EXCEPT the main thing. That is, games, will essentially black screen upon launch (mouse point changes to in game pointer on black screen) when directed at the RX 6600. If instead I go into graphics control panel and direct at UHD Graphics 770, the game boots fine and is about as playable as one might expect with that graphics card.
At this point I've uninstalled and re-installed the drivers multiple times. I've cleared all the caches. I've disabled multiplane overlay and hardware acceleration in Chrome, Battlenet, and Discord. I've added command lines to start the games windowed. Also tried launching directly through Adrenaline. None of those more common solutions have panned out. I've used WinKey + CTRL + LShift + B to reset the video driver in the black screen. Reduced fan speed to 0 at low temps. Still nothing. I am out of return window and out of ideas.
I don't think other parts are playing a role in this, but this is mostly what we ended up with https://pcpartpicker.com/list/s93zRv along with be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, BK022, 250W TDP, CPU Cooler.
Primary games are OW2 and Valorant if that matters.
Any help is appreciated.

2023.05.28 22:19 FXDataPanel Beware of the Mistakes to Avoid When Using Cheat Sheets to help with Forex Trading

Patterns of trading forex offer insight into market trends and help traders make more informed choices. To increase their effectiveness and value traders should be conscious of any mistakes that can reduce its effectiveness This includes mistakes related to cheat sheets for trading patterns that could decrease its value or cause it malfunction completely.
We'll discuss the most common mistakes that traders should avoid using when using their trading pattern cheat sheets and provide suggestions on how to avoid the issues. First off...
Chart Patterns: What Causes Them To Exist? People behave in a similar way throughout time, which results in chart patterns. The traditional academic model assumes that investors are rational, and market prices accurately represent all data available to investors.
With this information the prices should reflect the current market conditions.
The chart patterns are now presenting us with a dilemma. If the information in the market has already been incorporated into price estimates but only the newly available information could have an impact. In this volatile market, how can the past pricing data be used to predict the market's reaction to new information?
Some people claim that you should not or shouldn't invest your money in index funds that are passive, using economic theory, also known by the term efficient market theory (EMH).

Behavioral Finance

A different perspective can be found in behavioral finance, an emerging area of economic theory that argues that the decisions made are usually influenced by biases, and therefore may not always be rationally formulated.
Do we ever make decisions without fully evaluating our actions or carefully planning them making decisions solely on emotions and not rationality? Perhaps you hang on for too long for fear of losing an chance?
These types of irrationalities typically result from people acting unintentionally because they are influenced by powerful emotions such as fear or greed and cause them to act in a way that is illogical. Because people's behavior is often controlled by their emotions certain patterns will appear on price charts that repeat in relation to significant psychological regions.
Keep this last aspect in mind is crucial Any chart can show patterns, however those at higher levels of psychological understanding have more significance and meaning.
Common Forex Trading Patterns Cheat Sheet Errors Numerous types of chart patterns for trading are present in today's forex market. In the beginning, they are broken down into bearish and bullish categories and the latter can indicate that a downtrend is over and bullish patterns suggest the end of it. Conversely, bearish charts signify the end to an upward trend and indicate that a new downward trend is expected to start in the near future Harmony classical candles and patterns with single candlesticks are crucial elements to look for when looking at these charts patterns.

Trading pattern cheat sheets that misunderstand trading

Uncertainty It's unfortunate traders often fall into the trap of relying on cheat sheets and not fully understanding their concepts and the their dynamics, resulting in mistakes in communication and poor judgement when trading.
Neglecting Context
The trends in forex trading must always be evaluated within the larger context of markets to be sure that they are not false signals caused by not focusing on factors such as support and resistance levels, market sentiment and fundamental research. Overlooking Risk Management
Over-Leverage
Leverage that is too high can lead to losses when strategies for trading become unconnected So establishing appropriate leverage levels and implementing appropriate risk management strategies are essential to ensure long-term success.
Failing to Set Stop Loss Orders
Inability to execute stop loss orders may risk exposing traders to massive loss if a pattern that is unexpected develops in a different way than expected leaving them vulnerable and vulnerable to large possible losses. Stop loss orders serve to minimize the possibility of losing money while protecting capital. Forex Trading Influenced by Emotions
Impulsive Trading Decisions to Trade triggered by emotion, such as greed or fear could result in abrupt deviations from a trading strategy, resulting in an impulsive decision in trading that goes against the guidelines of the plan. 2023.05.28 22:19 Cultural_Estimate_90 Set Idea: Journey to the Center of Azeroth (Jules Verne inspired)

I put this on another hearthstone reddit and someone pointed me here. I don't have any art skills to make the cards, so if anyone wants to do anything here, feel free!
So like many Hearthstone players, I also play the game that inspired it, World of Warcraft. Currently, the game has players exploring an underground area called the Zaralek Caverns, which include a new and cute mole-like race called the Niffen. Then, remembering Deepholm and another ground-dwelling race called the Drogbar, a bunch of ideas came to me in the form of a new expansion idea: Journey to the Center of Azeroth.
Since the idea (and the name) is based on the work of the great author, Jules Verne, I decided it should be inspired and themed after his work. And so this is the basic story idea:
Plot: Many secrets still lay underneath the surface of Azeroth, both great riches and dangerous secrets. Come join the legendary writer and amateur explorer, Joles Burns, as he takes his specially modified mole machine and digs deeper into Azeroth than anyone has before! He will not stop until he reaches the center of the planet! But will his expedition lead to untold treasures...or horrifying terrors that should not have been disturbed...?
Joles Burns will be a Dark Iron Dwarf and the MC of the expansion and a likely solo adventure. He can be a shaman potrait hero, but I see him also as a legendary neutral card. Which brings up the special new term introduced to this expansion: Collaspe
Jole Burns: Legendary. (Neutral) 7/8. 8-Mana. Battlecry: Collapse. three slots of your choosing for 3 turns. Entrance Quote: I am a dark iron dwarf and I DIGGY DIGGY A HOLE!!! (Reference to the Windrose song)
Collapse is a new mechanic I thought of that gives players the ability to manipulate the playing field itself. The targets are monster slots (Emptied or occupied), secrets, quests, multiple-turn spells (like the Alterac Valley spells), and even hero powers. When a slot is collasped, it can not be used (effects like spell damage for being out get nullified), have its effects activated (secrets remain unable to be triggered), or be progressed (quests can't be fufilled until collaspe ends). You may choose your own field or the opponents. Now all collapse effects have a timer, but can be ended up earlier by giving up one mana to "dig it up". This can never be lowered or effected by mana cost, so it becomes a matter of stragety (do you give up mana to get it out back but possibly run out before your full stragety works or do you save mana while waiting for it to end?) To counter this, there can be a neutral monster card or two can that dig up slots (all slots at once, so like if its three mana and you have four slots, it'd only cost you three mana instead of four)
The monsters and cards can be themed around the underground areas such as Deepholm, Neltharion's Lair, and the Caverns. We can see niffen, drogbar, elementals, and maybe even bring back the Kobolds.
Now here's the card themes I thought of for each class:
1: Death Knight. Mushrooms (Unholy), fossils (frost), old god corruption (Blood). I thought this would be a funny idea, as part of the Titan research faciulty that would be part of the solo storyline, that all the natural fauna were experimented on...and turned out horribly wrong. Mushrooms grow on dead things, and would fit here for unholy's death and plague themes. (think fungus zombies!) Bones would be related to frost (because of "cold dead") and old god-related corruption could work for blood like how G'hunn was connected to blood-based curses.
2: Demon Hunter. Underground demons. This was a tough one, but I came up with the idea that demons long ago tried opening a portal to Azeroth and got stuck in the center of the earth instead. They are slightly berserk after centuries of being able to find their way back out.
3: Druid. Giant plants of the jungle area. In Journey to the Center of the Earth, there was a major area that was a monstrous jungle filled with dinosaurs and various monsters. And one big thing were the giant man-eating plants, so i thought that should be the druid's theme here.
4: Hunter. Giant underground beasts. These would be the same giant beasts of the jungle area. True, not very original for hunter, but most of their themes revolve around using animals like the wow class. We could have dinosaurs and giant worms for an example.
5: Mage. Lava area. I thought of this for the shaman or warrior originally, but better ideas for them came to me. Instead, I thought this would be good for the mage, focusing around fire elementals, monsters, and spells.
6: Paladin. Titanic constructs. Since many titan constructs use the light as a weapon similar to paladins, I thought this would be their theme here. Part of the story involves the underground titan faciulty Joles Burns discovers, and so would be fitting here.
7: Priest. Crystal monsters. Crystals were often believed to have healing and mystic powers, and naturally amplify light. So I thought crystal constructs and beasts would be good for the priest here.
8: Rogue. The Niffen. These guys are small, but sneaky, so I thought they'd match with the naturally stealthy rogue. Their spell cards could involve their odor-based warfare as rogue tools (such as stink bombs and explosives).
9: Shaman. Therazane and the earth elementals. This was easy to decide on after thinking about it slightly. They naturally work with the shaman's abilities and Therazane herself can be a legendary for the shaman.
10: Warlock. Fel-infected. Going back to the demon theme of the Demon Hunter, I thought in their madness, they left fel wounds all over the underground and it infected the creatures and citizens here. So you can expect fel-influenced drogbar, sniffen, and even kobolds ("NO TAKE GREEN CANDLE!!!") The legendary here can be Totswaggle, who returns after finding a strange and beautiful fel-flamed candle that messes with his already screwy mind.
11: Warrior. The Drogbar. A race of uber-chads obessed with pumping iron and building muscle? Sounds perfect for a muscle-focused class like the warrior! Here's a weapon I thought of that could be fun.
Buff-U Weight. 1/4. (5 mana). Deathrattle: Give your hero 1 attack permantely if used at least four times previously (so no cheating by switch weapons or breaking your own weapon otherwise. No cheating on the road to fitness!)
One of the legendaries here could be Dargrul, who was the king of the Drogbar in Highmountain, until the adventurers of Azeroth killed him in Neltharion's Lair as its final boss. His entrance or battle quote could be: "THE MOUNTAIN WILL GNAW AT YOUR BONES!!!" (A line he screams during the fight for one of his attacks)
So do you guys think this would be a fun expansion? Feel free to comment and add your own ideas.

2023.05.28 22:17 Less_Sherbert2981 Posting if it's helpful: ChatGPT summary of the "How I Conquered My Video Game Addiction" video, which is better titled: "Cultivating Creativity and Productivity: Navigating Boredom and Achieving the Professional Tipping Point"

I took the YT transcript and put it through ChatGPT to format it better and also provide a summary. I think there's good content in this video but didn't want to spend half an hour watching it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PYhEWK2wVA
The better transcript and summary:
Every time you play a video game, it's not just about the game. The experience extends beyond the virtual world. Once the match concludes, the thoughts don't just end there. You ruminate about the game, particularly if you encountered a novice player or a "smurf" — an experienced gamer pretending to be a newbie. For the next hour or so, you might find yourself in a negative space, which leaves no room for creativity.
Today, I want to share a concept that I call the "Professional Tipping Point". This represents the juncture where your natural inclination to be productive overtakes your tendency to procrastinate or fritter time away. People often ask me why they can spend hours grinding toward a useless virtual goal, such as accumulating likes on social media or achievements in a video game, yet they struggle to focus on being productive in real life.
This confusion is understandable. When people are productive, they feel satisfied, content, and proud. In contrast, even after dedicating substantial time to chasing seemingly trivial goals, they often feel empty. It's puzzling why they can't harness this effort toward productivity.
As a doctor, I used to take call at McLean Hospital, a freestanding psychiatric hospital. Being "on call" means you are the one doctor responsible for handling issues that might arise overnight. Now, because it's a psychiatric hospital, there aren't usually medical emergencies. I would be on call about once every two weeks.
The experience of being on call can vary greatly. Sometimes, it's a quiet night where patients are asleep and there isn't much to worry about. But other times, you're constantly paged to handle various situations — patients having trouble sleeping, agitated patients, or those hallucinating. On these nights, you could find yourself constantly moving between units, sometimes having to restrain patients or deal with hallucinations or psychosis. Essentially, it's a gamble as to whether it's going to be a quiet night or not.
In preparation for being on call, most doctors ready their entertainment, much like you might for a long flight. One night, I found myself getting increasingly frustrated because I was repeatedly interrupted just as I settled down to watch something on my iPad. It wasn't that the work was overwhelming; it was the start-stop nature of it all that irritated me.
I wanted to be entertained, but the constant pages wouldn't allow for that. This situation where I was stuck between being busy and being entertained was exceedingly frustrating. Finally, I decided to do something different. If I couldn't get into a show, I thought, why not try working on something else? So, I began to journal.
One particular day, I worked on writing fiction, then some non-fiction material around video game addiction. This turned a lose-lose situation into a win-win. If I wasn't interrupted and wrote for half an hour, I felt productive and satisfied. If I was interrupted, at least I had written down a few thoughts or a paragraph, which wasn't as frustrating as being unable to get into a show.
This experience taught me a valuable lesson: capture your creative impulses. It's the first step towards reaching your "Professional Tipping Point." Whether your idea is business-related, fiction-related, creative, or artwork, jot it down. Unfortunately, we often have a creative impulse but do nothing with it. The idea comes and goes. Capturing these creative impulses is vital.
The second step to reaching your professional tipping point is reflection on the work you've done. Often, we see people, both in video games and real life, who put in significant time but don't necessarily improve or advance. Some gamers might remain at the bronze rank for five years, or professionals might feel stuck in their career. This suggests that merely spending more time doesn't necessarily lead to progression — as shown by research studies conducted on physicians.
Indeed, there is research that shows practicing medicine for a longer period doesn't necessarily make you a better physician. It suggests that a physician's performance level is set within the first couple of years of practice and essentially remains the same for the rest of their career. Thus, physicians fall into quartiles (top, upper-middle, lower-middle, bottom), and their initial placement is likely where they stay.
This stagnation happens because many people don't deal with learning effectively. To improve, it's not enough to practice; you must also analyze your performance and intentionally seek to improve areas where you fell short. This concept applies not just to physicians but also to gamers or other professionals who may find themselves stuck at a particular skill level for a long time.
Translating this into our own lives means reflecting on the work we've done. For instance, I used to write things down while on call, but the notes would end up being ignored. However, I realized that revisiting and reflecting on those jottings triggered new ideas, even when I didn't feel like writing. It made me feel productive and inspired me to write again.
There's a yogic concept related to this called "indrias," or sense organs. The yogis discovered that sensory input shapes our thoughts. For example, if you spend your time playing, watching, or reading about video games, you'll naturally think about video games. The same applies to other activities or topics, such as political content. What you bombard your senses with is what you'll naturally think about.
This understanding of indrias becomes significant when considering your professional tipping point. In any given moment, you have a choice between cultivating unproductive or productive thoughts. For example, while on call, if I choose to watch something on my iPad, it will trigger a certain train of thoughts. Conversely, if I open my notebook, it will trigger a different type of thoughts.
What train of thoughts you choose to board largely depends on how you deal with boredom. When bored, your mind looks for stimulation, often reaching for something highly dopaminergic, or rewarding. If you consistently lean into these dopaminergic activities, your thoughts and actions will be shaped accordingly. It's crucial to make conscious choices in these moments that align with your professional goals and aspirations.
The act of constantly resolving boredom with quick fixes for dopamine hits might be reducing our creative impulses. Whenever boredom strikes, our brains have learned to look for that instant gratification, which is essentially a dopamine hit. However, if we resist that urge and allow ourselves to be bored, over time, we'll notice that our mind begins to think creatively.
This can be compared to what happens during moments of distraction-free idleness, like when we're in the shower or on a long hike. During such times, our minds are free from external stimuli, and we often end up having unexpected bursts of creative thoughts. Thus, one could argue that surviving periods of boredom might be an essential ingredient for stimulating creativity.
However, this isn't about conquering boredom entirely; it's about temporarily delaying our reaction to it. It's about not instantly reaching for that "dopaminergic" thing the moment we feel bored. If we manage to do that, we'll begin to notice some interesting changes in our thought patterns.
For much of my life, my productivity was sporadic. I'd have bursts of productivity that would eventually end, and I knew they would. It was like an ongoing battle, where my urge to indulge in dopamine-releasing activities, like playing a video game, would ultimately win. This cycle felt never-ending and inevitable, much like the relentless waves of a zombie horde in a survival game.
However, a few years into my professional journey, I experienced a shift in this pattern. I started reflecting more on my creative impulses and began jotting them down. Instead of immediately succumbing to the urges that come with boredom, I resisted them, and this started triggering my creative thoughts. I would capture these thoughts, reflect on them, and that led to a snowballing effect.
This process started feeding my mind with more productive and creative thoughts, reinforcing my will to resist the urge to seek instant gratification. Over time, this led to a significant change. One day, instead of wanting to play a video game in my free time, I found myself pulling out my notebook and being productive. This was a significant turning point in my life, and it played a crucial role in starting Healthy Gamer.
The distinction to make here is that this isn't about grinding non-stop. It's not about avoiding all forms of leisure and forcing yourself to work all the time. It's about being productive and creative. It's about capturing your creative impulses, reflecting on them, and then acting on them. This process eventually leads to what I call a 'professional tipping point.'
Once you reach this tipping point, being productive becomes your natural impulse. It no longer feels like a chore you need to force yourself into. It becomes something you want to do. This shift isn't about grinding for someone else, like your boss. It's about capturing your own creative impulses and using them to fuel your professional growth.
So, if you're stuck in a cycle where you're constantly feeding your mind with negative thoughts, it's time to change that. It's time to start planting seeds of creativity and productivity in your mind. It's time to cultivate a grove filled with fruit-bearing trees.
Finally, remember that reaching this professional tipping point involves capturing your fleeting creative impulses, reflecting on your work, and understanding the importance of riding out boredom. Once you've done that, you'll start to notice that not only do you want to work, but you also start enjoying your leisure activities more.
In essence, it's about making a shift in your mindset, one where you no longer have to resist the urge to seek instant gratification, but instead naturally incline towards being productive. Once you reach that point, navigating life becomes a lot more fulfilling and rewarding.
Summary Take 1:
The central idea in this passage is the concept of the "Professional Tipping Point", where the innate desire to be productive and creative overtakes the need for instant gratification, such as dopamine hits from activities like video gaming. To reach this point, the writer suggests three key steps:
  1. Capture Creative Impulses: The first step is to identify and capture any fleeting moments of creativity. Rather than allowing these impulses to pass by unnoticed, it's important to acknowledge them and jot them down.
  2. Reflect on the Captured Thoughts: Reflection is the next step. By revisiting the creative impulses and thoughts that have been captured, one can start building on these ideas, and this process itself becomes a source of motivation and positive reinforcement.
  3. Riding Out Boredom: The writer suggests that allowing oneself to experience boredom and resisting the impulse to seek instant gratification can lead to enhanced creativity. In times of boredom, the mind has the opportunity to wander and can generate creative ideas.
The writer discusses how the practice of these steps led to a transformation in their work habits and ultimately their life. They were able to shift from short bursts of productivity and periods dominated by video gaming to a more sustained, innate desire to be productive and creative. They started projects, including the inception of "Healthy Gamer," through this newfound productivity. They insist that this doesn't mean constant grinding at a monotonous job, but rather indulging in and nurturing one's creative impulses.
The writer concludes by pointing out that reaching this Professional Tipping Point not only enhances productivity but also enhances the enjoyment of leisure activities, as they are no longer used as an escape from productivity but enjoyed in their own right. The resultant mental momentum from consistent productivity makes transitioning back to work after leisure much easier. This practice has the potential to create a positive feedback loop, encouraging more productivity and creativity over time.
Summary Take 2:
The initial discussion explores the idea of how the immediate gratification of dopamine hits from pleasurable activities, often used to escape boredom, can dampen our creative impulses. To stimulate creativity, the suggestion is to resist this immediate urge and allow oneself to experience boredom. In such states, free from distractions and instant gratification, our minds can start to think creatively.
The crux of this idea is not about battling boredom entirely, but learning to delay the usual instant gratification response to it. The speaker discusses personal experiences of sporadic productivity eventually giving way to sustained productivity over time. This shift was possible due to capturing and reflecting on creative thoughts instead of succumbing to instant gratification.
A significant point in this process was termed the 'professional tipping point'. At this point, productivity becomes a natural impulse, not an enforced chore. It is a shift away from grinding tirelessly to a focus on capturing and fostering one's creative impulses. The discussion emphasizes that reaching this point is not about mindless grinding for external factors like pleasing a boss, but about nurturing your personal growth.
This process eventually leads to a change in mindset, where you begin to enjoy being productive and engaging in leisure activities in a balanced manner. The speaker shares personal experiences about this transformation, leading to the founding of Healthy Gamer, a result of accumulated and refined productive and creative thoughts.
The conversation concludes with three key steps to reaching this 'professional tipping point': capturing fleeting creative impulses, reflecting on one's work, and learning to embrace and endure periods of boredom. Once these steps are in place, life becomes more fulfilling and rewarding, as one naturally inclines towards productivity.

Cards in sideboard are in my shortlist and will buy them in th future, just not sure in what order to improve the deck asap.
Any other suggestions how to turn it into strongest version possible? My playgroup gets mostly stomped by high power Yuriko, is also artifacts heavy and there is a Zur deck emerging. However, Nekusar would be also played in LGS so bigger decks variety.

Just finished modding my old boy here
Just installed new firmware and got RetroArch running on my little silver friend. Real excited for my new memory stick adapter to come in the mail so I can pop a 64gb SD card in it.
Now my goal is to figure out how to get a good psx core and figure out how to run psp .ISOs. I'll wait for the larger storage capacity before figuring all that out.

2023.05.28 22:12 vitamin8080 QoL Suggestions

Just hit tier 10 have came up with a long list of QoL changes along the way that could make the game much less tedious and more enjoyable. In no particular order:
Filter Monsters from Bestiaries Whenever there are event followers to get, I usually tap check all my bestiaries to see if any limited ones are available, just scrolling through trying to spot them. Since you cant purchase the same follower twice, there doesn't really seem to be a reason for them to be there anymore other than to make searching more difficult. There should be an option to either hide followers you already have or only show limited time followers.
Filter Spells from Arcanist Same issue and suggested improvement as above.
Leaving Dungeons/Towers and reentering them from elsewhere later should be more consistent I don't believe how to do this is shown in game anywhere, but believe its intended behaviour to be able to store up to 5 dungeons by entering them and then closing the game then when you reopen the game your dungeon will appear on the right and you can tap and jump back into it. If you exit the dungeon using the "Leave" action, this does not happen. Leaving the dungeon should have the same effect as closing the app if you physically move far away from the dungeon. Additionally, there could be a "store" dungeon option when tapping a dungeon beside the "Hold to Enter" option so we can store it for later after checking the dungeon options (hard mode, boss mode etc..). It would also be nice to have a menu area where you could see all your stored dungeons along with the time you have left to complete them that you can use to re-enter them, instead of having them all appear on the world screen on the right taking up already valuable space on the cluttered map.
Show what slot an item goes in I always found it strange that from an item's description it doesn't say which gear slot it goes into. For things like "boots" and "sword" its pretty intuitive, but with some of the event items like "house keys" or "scrolls", right away I wouldn't know if these go in the "off hand" slot or "accessories" slot. Right now you need to open the inventory menu and then go through the gear slot sub menus until you find the item.
Show stats of skills provided by weapons In you skill load out you can see the "power" of you abilities and also what they do, but for skills like "volley" or "arrowstorm" enabled by equipment pieces, the description doesn't really tell you much. Right now to figure out how strong one of these skills are or if they can crit you need to go up against the training cactus, factor out buffs and debuffs and then chart you damage, but then for abilities like "arrowstorm" without looking it up online, I am not sure there is any in game way to know that the damage is split between all enemies. The abilities description from abilities enabled by equipment should show "power" and other information you would expect to see from the "skills" menu
Easier way to see the base stats of equipment Whenever I "view" a piece of equipment from the "Equipment" or "inventory" menu, it compared the piece of gear to what I currently have equipped. This is valuable and expected from the "Equipment" page, but I don't feel like this is needed from the "Inventory" page it just adds more clutter making it more difficult to see an items stats on their own. Additionally, I would love for stats from adornment to show separately. As an example, if I have sword that gives 100 attack and 2 adornments that give 6 attack each, i would like the stats on the sword to show 100 (+12) or something like that to separate these buffs (though this might be hard to implement in a way that doesn't look messy with the gear comparison numbers. Maybe they total adornment stats could be at the bottom underneath all the adornments?) This makes using Oran Assess easier to look up an item's quality if it has adornments as right now if I manually subtract the adornment buffs the Orna Assess on gear often gives me errors because there seems to be some weird math with adornments. The current workaround if you care, is to remove all adornments then use the out of game tool.
Set over-wold tap priority. This game is very cluttered with all the buildings and monsters overlapping on the world map. Right now if you want to tap on a specific monster overlapping a building you need to spin the map around or play with the zoom in and zoom out or hide a punch of layers and then put them back again. Either, I would like a way to be able to set the tap priority, or a way to order which layers always appear on top of each other or at least have quest monsters always take priority/appear on top layer.
More detailed skill descriptions Currently some abilities have different "penetrations" or whatever that you can look up on some google doc out there on the internet, but I feel like this info should really be inside the game. I feel like every description from a skill provided by an item should show the M1/M2 (or whatever these are called), Number of Hits, Crit chance (even if zero!) and any other info that I might be missing so we can compare skills better. Right now you have to either look this info up outside the game, which I am not sure is even up to date or do a lot of testing with the training cactus.
Auto Heal After many months I learned that you could just press and hold your inventory menu button to auto heal, but this feels not very responsive and slow, especially if you need to do this a lot over and over after fighting monsters. It would just be nice if there was a way to toggle "Auto heal" on or off so that you would just automatically heal to full HP and Mana after fights.
Buy maximum amount of potions I have no idea why you can only buy 1000 potions at a time, when you can hold up to 5000. Beyond that though, I would love to just have a 1 tap button that purchases the maximum amount I can carry. For example, if I had 2000 small health potions on me, I could just tap "Buy max" and it would just purchase me 3000 more small health potions if I have the gold. A nice bonus would be if we could up the carrying capacity from 5000 to 9999. I think at the moment there is some janky way to carry more, by putting them in your keep and them being used from there, but again this is just tedious and not explained in game.
More graphics customization I always play on "Low" graphics just because I hate the sprite flashing when you attack an enemy. I wish this could be toggled on or off separately. Additionally, the down side of playing on "Low" settings is that I can not see any "Berserk", "Arisen" or "God-forging auras" on the over world map. I wish there was a separate toggle for these auras as well, since I personally feel like that's a big part of the game and determines which enemies I would want to fight when walking around.
Raids should end once you hit their damage cap Once you reach the damage cap on a raid the boss hits you for 9,999,999 damage and the raid ends, but this attach can be dodged or blocked and if the boss is stunned etc.. it might not even do the attack that turn Improvement would just be to end the raid once you hit the damage cap (and not have the "defeat" screen would be a nice to have, since were we really "defeated"?) or have the big attack always happens at the damage cap and always connect. Additionally, I believe you can go over the damage cap a bit if you do a big crit on the last attack, but maybe the damage cap should just be a hard cap. Not sure if it is this way already or not.
Other realms timer When we have other realms events, it would be nice to have a timer showing how much longer I could remain in the "Other realms" map. Sometimes I get booted out after a very short time like 1 or 2 hours it seems and other times its like the whole day I am still there.
Activate all bonus buff items Later in the game, my current experience is that you essentially have an unlimited amount of exp potions, dowsing rods, torches, silver and gold coins. It would be nice if there was a single button to activate all these buffs at once or maybe a way to toggle on or off have these buff automatically refresh once they run out if you have the necessary item in your inventory. A bonus would be that they would only refresh once you open the game so you don't wast items if you are not playing. Either way, this change would make these items feel more valuable.
Open Guild menu from Territory view When you are in game and tap the bottom right circle to go to the territory view, this disables to guild menu button. Not sure why this is the case and I think you should be able to open the guild menu from that screen.
Push Notifications Maybe its just my phone is set up this way, but it would be nice to enable some push notifications. The ones I would want would be, when an event or other realms even is starting, when a piece of equipment is done upgrading at the blacksmith, when my town hall refreshes its list of quests and maybe some guild stuff. Additionally, I don't feel like the current notification checks do anything. Whether I have every option or nothing checked I still get the ! notifications in game by the yellow bell icon in the top left and always constantly need to go in to view the notification to clear it. Most of these notifications I don't care about at all, but requires me to tap through each sub menu to find the notification to get rid of the !.
Option to hide ally damage numbers I, like many others I would assume, don't play with other people very often. I would love a way to hide ally damage numbers in raids. Specifically in the latest other realms event, ally damage numbers just make it harder to see my own and make the game more laggy it seems. Since their damage numbers don't do affect me in any way I would like to turn them off or even turn off showing allies entirely. I'm not even sure the point in having them is because I don't think you can buff each other or benefit from them debuffing the boss.
Show total rewards from areas One of the funnest parts of Orna is travelling around and capturing areas. I know its not a huge source of income, but I would love to have a page where we could see our total daily, weekly and monthly rewards from captured areas. It would be much more motivating to go out and play if we could see our incomes go up and compare with other party members/friends.
Dismantle all from shops Maybe this one changes the game too much, but currently you can already buy all the items from a shop and then dismantle them for materials. It would be nice to just have a "dismantle all" in the shop that buys all of the item and dismantles them just giving you the materials.
Other realms Show damage thresholds/boss HP. From what I understand, in other realms you need to do 10x the bosses HP to get maximum rewards, but to find this out you need to web search this information. It would be a nice to have to show the bosses HP in the raid or for more fun, show the max rewards % you have reached with the current amount of damage you have done.
View different gear load outs from status page If you go the the "Status" menu, you can view your "stats" from all your different load outs. It would be nice that when you tab through your different loadouts, your gear for those specific load outs would also show below. Right now it always shows your "World" load out. Additionally, it would be nice to be able to view your party member's or guild member's different load outs to see what they are using for different content. Right now I just see view distance gear or farming gear, which is not that interesting.
Put auto dismantle settings back in options Not sure why this got moved to a sub menu in the items menu and very frequently on this sub Reddit I see people asking where this is. The current location does not seem very intuitive, but this is a small thing. Its less of a issue now at T10, but while levelling I would have liked a way to combine quality and tier when auto-dismantling. For example, only dismantle things that are T5 or below that are also rare quality or below.
Obviously some of these changes would take a lot of work and the Orna team seems very small with patches being very few and far between, but it would be nice if some of these could be on the radar for future versions. Most of these changes are things you can already do in game, just with more button pressing. Overall as well, I find the game very unresponsive sometimes, like tapping "attack" often has a 1-2 second delay. I am on a current generation flagship phone and have fast home wifi, but frequently the game just gets slow. Sometimes I can fix this by opening and closing the game. Not sure if this is an optimization problem (again small team) or a money/server speed problem (I did purchase a sprite pack).

2023.05.28 22:12 EERMA And who do you think you are?

I don’t belong here.
Who do I think I am?
I’m not good enough.
I’m a fraud.
Who am I getting ideas above my station?
I’m not worthy.
Is this really me?
Sound familiar?
Welcome to Imposter Syndrome. You’re in good company. Nigella Lawson, Michelle Obama, Lady GaGa and Lily Allen have all shared their imposter syndrome experiences publicly. But what is this demon?
It’s an umbrella term, under which lives one or more limiting beliefs such as those generalised ones above. They may be accompanied by more specific beliefs. These are typically formed rationally in childhood and, as children, may serve us well. For example;
· I need everyone to approve of me.
· To be a valued I must succeed in everything I do.
· It is not OK for me to make mistakes. If I do, I am bad.
· I can feel happy in life without contributing back in some way.
· Everyone needs to rely on someone stronger than themselves.
· I shouldn’t have to feel sadness, discomfort and pain.
· Someone, somewhere, should take responsibility for me.
What would your own list look like?
However, time moves on and things change. As we become adults, our childhood beliefs serve us less well – and the resultant behaviours may be incongruent with the situation we are in. This leads to the conclusion that one of the things it means to grow up, is to develop out of our childhood beliefs and adopt a new set of beliefs that will serve us better as adults. This progression follows a broad pattern of developing from dependence as children to independence as young adults to interdependence as mature adults.
Our overall set of beliefs are developing all the time. However, most of us will carry some of our childhood beliefs with us in to adulthood. Most of these will be innocuous most of the time but some of them will, sometimes, impede our performance as high functioning, inter-dependent, adults. As adults, we benefit from identifying our limiting beliefs, and growing in to more valuable beliefs.
By way of an example, a common limiting belief sitting under the Imposter Syndrome umbrella is ‘I must compare myself to others’ which can be re-framed to ‘I live my own life on my own terms’ or ‘I have a unique set of character strengths, as do others’. In turn the re-framed beliefs can underpin valuable affirmations such as ‘Because I live my own life, I enjoy the successes of others’ or ‘I choose to celebrate my successes without reference to other’s accomplishments’ or ‘The fact that I choose to live my life authentically means I only compare myself against my own standards’.
A standard element of working with PERMA hypnotherapy is developing a high degree of self-awareness via exploring your characters strengths, values, beliefs and limiting beliefs which paves the way to defining your identity. In turn, this leaves you ideally placed to choose your own best future.
Working with a hypnotherapist is particularly well suited to personal development in this area as – by its very nature – it opens up the pathways between the parts we know and recognise as ‘us’ and the deeper levels of our wisdom: ideal for when we need to take those big steps forward.

Hey ycombinator,
As many of us have realized, LinkedIn has become an essential platform for entrepreneurs, startups, and job-seekers alike, with plenty of opportunities abound. While we have all heard of great success stories from LinkedIn outreach, not everyone has mastered the process.

How do you approach LinkedIn outreach effectively and ensure a high response rate? What do you think makes a LinkedIn message stand out from the rest?
Of course, one of the most significant factors is writing personalized messages tailored to each connection's background and interests. But to excel at this, there's a lot of time and energy to be invested in research and crafting the message.

How do you strike the perfect balance between personalization and time management? Do you have any tips or tools that help with this process?
Also, what are some successful follow-up strategies that you've implemented or seen work well? Discussing this could help more people leverage LinkedIn to its fullest potential!

Let's share our insights and learn from each other's experiences in this thread. Looking forward to hearing all your valuable inputs!

2023.05.28 22:08 47Harpys Am I The ONLY one suffering?

This has been an ongoing issue from the day I downloaded Fjordur, and now its spreading throughout the maps.
I've had issues with Fjordur from the day it was released, and that was being constantly kicked off the map if I DARED to go near certain places. The biggest problem zones was the Green obelisk/Red woods parts of the map which was guaranteed 100% to kick me every playthrough.
I cannot enjoy Fjordur as a result.
Another issue that has arisen is the game kicks me 9/10 times when I try to log out, and I end up losing about 20 minutes of progress, ontop of sometimes dying when I log in case I load into a compromising position (either flying or in combat).
These have now extended to Lost Island which I recently started on. (Its also starting to affect the other maps, like Crystal Isles, Valguero, Extinction, etc)
I'm at my wits end and I know for a fact WildCard won't do shit about it because from what I've seen they never do anything about any of the major issues with the game, they rather keep adding new dinos like that's supposed to make it better.
I genuinely don't know what to do because in the beginning the issue was my saves being deleted by server wipes but now the issue is being kicked out of the game for absolutely no reason and losing a heap of progress.
Am I unlucky or is this something that happens with others and how in the heck do you guys cope if you're affected?
I apologise in advanced for this vent post, I really wanna be able to play this game but its hard to enjoy to the max when I am getting kicked out at the most random times, or when I'm trying to end a session, or I'm losing my entire saves.
I play on Xbox One and I feel like I've tried everything I could possibly think of except for buying a new console but I can't do that because I'm not exactly rolling in money.

2023.05.28 22:07 SleepyIchabod Buying a laptop today, please help a lady out :)

Hey! I have a very small budget and these were the best I could find in the range that I'm looking at a monthly payment for. I have pretty much always had HPs, but my last HP laptop was a nightmare, so I'm considering these three options: HP- https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-17-3-hd-laptop-intel-core-i3-8gb-memory-256gb-ssd-natural-silve6532945.p?skuId=6532945 MSI Bravo- https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-bravo-15-15-6-144hz-gaming-laptop-fhd-ryzen-7-5800h-radeon-rx6500m-16gb-memory-with-512gb-ssd-black/6532167.p?skuId=6532167 Lenovo- https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-ideapad-3i-15-6-fhd-touch-laptop-core-i5-1135g7-with-8gb-memory-512gb-ssd-arctic-grey/6531744.p?skuId=6531744#tabbed-customerreviews I'll mostly be using this for emails, writing, and possibly some data entry, but I do hope to be able to run my Sims 4 and some other fairly light games that I've got. I'm way more of a console gamer and I'm not totally familiar with computer specs, so advice is so appreciated! I also heard MSI has some issues which makes me hesitant, but I know everything has their pros and cons
