2023.06.03 07:02 richoka How The Biblical Definition of ‘Idolatry’ Differs From The Christian Perspective
Following on the heel’s of yesterday’s discussion, here’s another HUGE misconception the Christian world harbors concerning idolatry.
They view pagans or the unbelieving world as idolaters.
That’s a mistake.
Why?
Because you can only be an idolater unless your were once a follower of the God of Israel.
See what I mean?
You can’t apostatize from something you weren’t already a party of.
Just like you can’t be fired unless you were already first employed.
That’s why the Bible does not categorize the unbelieving world as idolaters…
According to Scripture, the Canaanites were NOT idolaters.
An idolater is someone who claims to follow God but let’s the things of the world infiltrate his or faith and lifestyle.
And sorry to say, institutional Christianity seems to fit this definition to a tee.
They claim to follow the God of Israel…
They claim adherence to His Word…
They claim to honor His Messiah…
Yet, they preach and teach that God’s holy law has been done away with…
They have abandoned His feasts and replaced them with pagan holidays like Christmas and Easter…
And via their trinitarian theology, they’ve turned his son into a deity…
If you’ve ever wondered why the orthodox Jewish world views Christianity as an idolatrous religion, there’s your reason.
The institutional Church has taken the Hebrew Bible, labeled it the “Old” Testament, and then through their doctrines have so twisted and perverted God’s Torah that it doesn’t even resemble anything Moses originally taught.
Anyways, just get this one basic point.
You CANNOT commit idolatry unless you were once set apart for the Lord in the first place.
I’m telling you this so you know what the true Biblical perspective of idolatry is.
So forget about what your typical church has to say on the matter.
Are you going to listen to them or the Word?
It’s important to understand why the God accused the Israelites in 1 Samuel as committing adultery.
It was NOT because they had renounced God in exchange for something else.
Ya feel me?
It was because they had engaged in what the Torah calls SHA’ATNEZ (שַׁעַטְנֵז)or illicit mixing.
Whenever you mix something impure with something pure, you get what the Scripture calls TEVEL (תֶּבֶל) or confusion…
Which is exactly what the Israelites got when they started including pagan practices into their worship of God.
So remember that.
Idolatry is the SHA’ATNEZ (illicit mixing) that leads to TEVEL (confusion).
It is the very thing the Torah warns against!
Unfortunately, your average Christian church goer would have no idea about this because they have been taught the Law is dead.
I mean when you throw into the trash that very portion of Scripture that defines what idolatry is, of course you’ll have no idea what it means.
Isn’t it amazing?!
The Christian Church, by incorporating non-scriptural pagan-based observances and symbols into their worship and lifestyles…
They are doing the VERY SAME THING Samuel ordered Israel to stop doing!

2023.06.03 07:02 pianistr2002 I want to be a music professor. I’m unsure of which path to pursue.
Hello,
I appreciate anyone who reads and replies to my post.
For context: I am an undergrad music major - piano performance transfer student at UC San Diego with a 3.75 GPA.
My career goals are to be a music professor at a community college or university.
I am in my junior year and will be preparing to submit graduate school applications this year to start grad school right after I graduate with my B.A.
I’ve been faced with a dilemma for some time now and that is which field of music should I pursue and set my efforts towards applying to.
I have an interest in both piano and performing as well as research and musicology. However, my experience with actual musicological research has really only started this year and I have primarily focused on performing beforehand.
The thing is, while I enjoy pursuing both things, I have more experience playing and teaching piano (I also would prefer to teach piano and music theory).
However, I don’t feel like I am good enough at piano to even make it into any graduate program for performance but I still love learning piano and enjoy teaching it the most. And my reasons for wanting to apply and possibly begin to focus more on musicology are because I do also really enjoy learning about music history and researching more on topics of music that I am deeply interested (lifelong interests) but also because I feel my chances of being admitted to a musicology grad program would be better. I also want to stay in California for grad school and I know that limits my options.
I deeply apologize if this is too broad of a question to be answered or be given any meaningful advice. How do you feel I should go about this? Is there a benefit to obtaining one degree over the other in terms of which one is more likely to land you a job in higher education? (Yes, I do know the prospects of that are disappointingly low but still I will work towards it).
Thank you so much.

2023.06.03 07:01 lukelivesfree How do we actually evaluate complex practical arguments?
Hey everyone,
My background is a math/physics undergrad in the US where I've just gone through a 2 semester survey course on political philosophy (about 25 authors from Plato, Aristotle, Rousseau, Hegel, to Foucault, Arendt, and contemporary thinkers etc.) Since I've not taken an intro to philosophy class, can anyone help me answer this question? How do we actually evaluate claims in practical real life situations?
So for example, I was reading through twitter and someone made the claim that: many people thought the NBA draft was rigged so the San Antonio Spurs received the 1st pick because of society's growing narcissism, thinking that anything suspect that happens outside their worldview is because some entity is purposefully manipulating the circumstances. Their worldview here is that there was such a low likelihood that the Spurs could win and it was the place where the #1 pick wanted to go, perhaps with a prior that this has happened before (the Cavs and Lebron James)
There seems to be two large nested inferences here.
- Narcissism -> Twitter posts
- Narcissism -> anything outside worldview -> purposeful manipulation
It seems like the forward direction is causal inference and the backwards is probability. So forwards, one way to evaluate the first claim is to think empirically and say let's imagine an experiment and if changing our independent variable (narcissism) would change the result (people on twitter making this claim). Backwards is thinking about the likelihood that assuming people are becoming narcissistic, the twitter posts would result in this manner.
So proving that these inferences are consistent would necessitate some sort of understanding experimentally?
It seems like philosophy does things differently with consistency (noncontradiction), strength of evidence for the claims, and dialectics. However, how do we actually validate these claims rigorously? What methods do philosophers employ? It seems like basic logic like syllogisms don't offer enough for me to use in more complex arguments, so how should one do it? Should I study analytic philosophy to understand it?
Any help would be appreciated!

2023.06.03 07:01 stucaboose Best pen to take apart?
Bit of an odd question here, but I figured this is the best place. Back when I was in school one of my favorite ways to fidget in class was disassemble and reassemble my pens. Something about breaking apart something to bare components and putting it back together helped me focus.
I remember I had one particular pen, nothing special, probably a free junk pen really, that broke down to 7-8 total pieces, easily more than all my other ones. So many pieces made it really satisfying to put back together.
I've since lost it, but I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a similar type of pen. Something that breaks down to as many pieces as possible. I'm probably just weird, but I figured this was the place to ask. Did anyone else do this during the madness of their youth?

2023.06.03 07:01 EarthAngel10614 Welcome to Rainbow Ridge
I am building this so those interested in both the Rainbow Ridge IC and The Church of Light on Rainbow Ridge can keep up to date on what we are doing and put progress.
This will also allow those interested to share their own ideas on what you would like to see there too.
What is The Church of Light on Rainbow Ridge?
This is meant to be a church, located on 40 acres in beautiful Delta county Colorado. Our church will allow a place of worship for Pagans and Christians alike. I am working on writing our holy book that contains our interpretation of the current Bible, including information from the missing gospels, but with a more feminine voice.
It is meant to be a safe place for the LGBTQ community, a progressive church, a place that is willing to help those who need help, as we are able.
If you stumbled here by accident, welcome.
If you were sent here by an email contact, I wanted to try to help everyone stay updated on our progress.
To everyone here, welcome, Blessed Be and please be kind.

2023.06.03 07:00 roti0204 Cute kittens
| We shifted into this place around 8 months ago and then about 3 month later I noticed a cat in our balcony meowing for food.. we got her whiskas and started feeding her... it started with one and now we have 6 cats waiting for food in our balcony. She is meow number 6 undoubtedly my most fav when my doggo isn't home she comes in the house strolls around and enjoys the cold ac in the hot summer. We discovered a week ago she gave babies near our generator inside the house... tried relocating but she's very scared of humans and very protective. Today I saw her babies playing near the generator and recorded this video of them. Made me smile. I hope meow number 6 and her little ones make you smile today. They are the most active cutest kittens I've ever seen... if my dog didn't hate cats I'd probably keep them all. Anyways, will go to vet and get some nice kitten food for them to make sure these babies grow into healthy most cutest cats. If anyone knows what food would be healthy for the new mumma and her babies please send suggestions. I read somewhere cats are lactose intolerant so I don't want to give them milk and risk it. I hope if you see this post it makes you smile submitted by roti0204 to gurgaon [link] [comments] |

If using cash to book a Hyatt stay, is there any benefit to using the Hyatt card for this or am I better off using a Chase Reserve? My understanding is regardless of card, I'll get 5x base points as long as I book through Hyatt. But the 5x + 4x is only for spending AT the hotel correct?
