As planned in my previous post we started the spring off by traveling to Donetsk oblast
Jester and Kirill the barber
to meet the Angry Beavers of the 72nd Mechanized Brigade and deliver a car full of supplies
https://reddit.com/link/140uyea/video/9ctibu6rq24b1/player
Thanks to Burt's Bees as always for sponsoring more and more lip balm!
bought with your donations and donated by you directly either through our Amazon wishlist or by sending to our PO Box.
This included such essential items such as CAT tourniquets, ballistic glasses, gloves and much, much more.
Also met Angelina, one of the brave women of the 72nd brigade, whom we continually support thanks to help of donors who wanted to help the girls directly.

It's a lot, and we continue to work hard in preparation for the inevitable counter offensive.
....
Personal rant time. This month was very hard on everyone in Ukraine and Kyiv where I live was hit with missiles and drones every other night. My mom is battling cancer.
Every ounce of your support, every message, comment or subscription to my socials reassures me to keep going. This community is my main pride. Thank you everyone. I don't know where I'd be without you. And my friends on the front depend on us.

Disclaimer: these are a lot of swatches so it’s possible there could be an error in my labeling. I think it’s right correct though.
I put my two favorite matches on my neck, the KGD 213 and Armani Luminous Silk 4. I can get away with wearing either on their own because of how sheer they are, but they both look best with a tiny drop of blue. If I’m not wearing any foundation I can just spot correct with the Kosas 3.2 and it blends perfectly.
Should also mention the KGD 123 was a little sample so to not waste the rest of it I mixed it with my KGD 213 with a drop of Temptu blue and that’s what’s on my face — which is why my chin/face look peachier than my neck in these. My chest is still a little redder than my neck though.

2023.06.05 00:37 SamPaxton97 Call of Duty: Eternal [COD]

Hello
I'd like you to imagine that, in 2017, Activision did not publish Call of Duty: WWII but instead Call of Duty: Eternal. This is a story which is very much the same as what Call of Duty: WWII transpired as but with a couple of significant differences. For a start, it's not set during World War Two - it's set in a fantasy world with a 1940s/50s level of technology. A global war is raging between mankind and Orks, with the Orks having conquered great tracts of the world, and the story opening with the efforts by humanity to retake "Albion" from Ork occupation. I like to imagine the faces of Call of Duty fans when the first trailer came out and, seeing what looked like D-Day, got excited that at last the franchise was going back to its roots - only to see that the enemies are Orks and the main character is a Lenape woman.
To help with this imagining - below you'll find the full script for the first mission of Call of Duty: Eternal, based on the first mission of Call of Duty: WWII. The rest will gradually follow.
You might find it useful to follow along using this video - a walkthrough (no commentary, thank God) of the actual first mission in Call of Duty: WWII to help with visualising it.

Call of Duty: Eternal Mission 1 X-Day
Text slowly appears on-screen:
The world is bathed in flames.
The Ork clans, united for the first time in centuries, are on the march.
Man faces extermination.
A human skull is shown before an Ork boot comes down on it, shattering it.
Radio broadcast: With unmatched ferocity, the Ork war machine has launched its onslaught against the world… mankind faces the abyss.
The camera pans up on the Ork boot to show an Ork soldier as, behind him, Ork soldiers and tanks move through a devastated city.
Radio broadcast: As we brace for our darkest hour, we must summon our strength to be the bulwark against oppression.
Ork bombers are shown bombing London, recognisable for the Thames if not for the architecture. They are four-engine bombers, like B-17s, and the camera closes in on a propeller which shifts to a ceiling fan.
Radio broadcast: The Ork onslaught will be the greatest test we'll ever face.
The camera pans down from the ceiling fan Mona Kanti, a young Lenape woman and the protagonist, is shown joining the Imperial Armed Forces. She stands in a line in a recruitment office as a recruitment officer stamps her papers.
Radio broadcast: But face it and defeat it… we must.
To punctuate the “we must,” a sudden cut to black with the sound cut out. Then, we hear the voice of the Ork Primarch. A speech plays, meant to mirror FDR’s D-Day Prayer, with shots of the Ork war machine we’ve been hearing so much about.
Primarch: With this war we set upon a mighty endeavour.
Fade from black to show huge lines of Ork soldiers in formation, like big Nazi rallies, are shown.
Primarch: A struggle to restore our civilization…
Ork soldiers on one knee in this rally are shown, closer up, dressed in battle gear and their faces daubed in war paint.
Primarch: …and to set free a suffering people.
A view from the rear of the rally, with the vast architecture of the Primarch’s palace shown looming over it all, resembling the Palace of the Soviets.
Primarch: Our Sons. Pride of our Clans.
Another panning shot of the assembled Orks, this time from the side.
Primarch: May the Mother lead them straight and true.
An Ork mystic, on the balcony overlooking the assembly, blesses the troops with hands raised to the sky.
Primarch: The road will be glorious. Men's souls will be broken with the beauty of war.
A shot from behind the mystic, seeing the assembled troops stretching towards the horizon.
Primarch: In this time of fire and blood…
The face of one Ork soldier is shown up close.
Primarch: …we shall prevail.
With the slightest of grimaces, the Ork uses a knife – and, in the background, we see the others doing the same – to ritualistically slice his forehead and let blood trickle down.
The cutscene then shifts to the Imperial Navy ships, including battleships of a scale similar to the Super Yamato, that are heading for the beaches of Albion. Mona Kanti is writing a letter to her sister, Luna Kanti, and we hear her voice-over as we view shots of the fleet.
Kanti (narrating): Luna. Oh, I wish you could see this, sister. An armada from one horizon to the next. I turned sixteen too late to help free Ériu. But not Albion – and it’s gonna be tougher. Much tougher. You know, I think I could bear the blood, and the misery… and the Orks. But the waiting… well, that’s a whole other battle.
Inside the troopship living quarters. We are now in first-person as Kanti. Kanti is sat at a table, hanging out and talking with her squad-mates Kinsi Rei (female Somali; shaved head), Thea Adlai, (female Swedish; ginger, freckles, glasses) and Ren Tao (male Chinese). Ren Tao is eighteen – the others are all sixteen. Bunks are stretched out behind them and other soldiers, of all ethnicities and sexes, walk by throughout. Rei is holding court while playing with a knife, every now and then jabbing between her fingers.
Rei: So she asks me for my watch and I'm thinking, "what in the Nether do you want my watch for; your parents make like fifty times mine!" But I turn around, and I felt this punch. And it's cold like ice.
Some of the dialogue is drowned out by Kanti’s narration. Every now and then, Kanti glances down at her fingers as she snaps them, but whatever she’s trying to do with that isn’t happening.
Kanti (narrating): Believe it or not, I managed to make some half-decent friends in Basic. All scared as can be. But nobody’s letting on.
Rei keeps playing her knife game as she talks.
Kanti (narrating): I hated Rei when I met her – and now she's my best friend. Funny how that works. She's always looking for trouble. If there wasn't already a war on she'd be off trying to start one.
Rei offers her knife to Thea Adlai and, though we can’t hear her given the narration, seems to be asking her if she wants to try the knife game. Adlai refuses.
Adlai: Besides, I gotta keep all my fingers if I'm gonna take photo of the year.
Kanti (narrating): Adlai says she's gonna be a photographer for a fashion magazine. She’s got a good eye. Except when she takes off her glasses – then she can’t see shit.
Rei offers her knife to Kanti and Kanti turns to Ren Tao.
Kanti (narrating): Tao's the vet but, if I’m honest, he's what kokomi would call “a bit of a bumpkin.”
Ren Tao is tempted to play Rei’s knife game.
Tao: Okay, okay. Let's make this interesting.
Rei: It’s not interesting? Kanti – what’re you doing?
She says this in reference to Kanti’s finger-snapping.
Kanti (narrating): I swear I used to be able to do this…
Tao: So you keep saying.
Tao take off his talisman and dangles it in front of Rei.
Tao: Xu Yaling. Spirit of war.
Adlai: And sex, right?
Tao: Sssh. (Rei and Adlai laugh) He's had my back since Sabha. And, yeah, that’s real gold. (drops the talisman down on the table) Rei, three times in ten seconds, and he's all yours. (Sits back down)
Rei: I don't know.
Tao: Oh, you could always wimp out. That’s a choice, too.
Kanti: My money's on Rei.
Rei: Okay. Okay, I'm in.
Adlai: I can't watch.
Tao: I can.
Rei looks to Adlai.
Rei: Just time me when I tell you. Back to my story – me and my girls, we muscled our way into this chess game that the wrestling team had going. We had a bona-fide genius among us – but it was me playing. We worked out a system where she can signal to me what moves to make. You should have seen the Head Girl’s face when I took that pot. (To Adlai) You ready? That's what happens when you try to hustle a hustler. Now…
Rei plays the knife game while Adlai times her and wins the bet in a few impressive seconds.
Rei: Checkmate!
Tao: There ain’t no way!
Kanti (narrating): Tao had enough fight in him for two men.
Rei: Much obliged.
Rei offers to shake hands with Tao.
Tao: My mother told me never touch a Nube.
Rei doesn’t flinch but you can tell she’s ready to throw hands. Instead…
Rei: That's not what she said last night.
Rei winks and Tao shakes her hand.
Kanti (narrating): And enough bigotry for six.
Tao: Meh, who needs a stupid talisman anyway.
Rei: Apparently, you did. Here, have it back.
Tao: You won it.
Rei: It’s fake gold.
Tao: What? No, no, no, that’s as real as you or I.
Rei: A hustler always knows.
Tao: Ah, whatever, if it’s fake I don’t want it. I'm gonna get something better. A real trophy. You'll see.
Rei: Good luck with that.
Kanti snaps her fingers and finally produces what she wanted – a finger of flame, like a lighter, appears.
Kanti: I did it! Look, look, I did it!
Rei: Well, by Baphometh, isn’t that something?
Tao: That’s very pretty, Kanti. You’re ready to take on the Primarch, I should think.
Rei: She was always ready. Right Kanti?
Tao: You got any healing spells we could use or is it all evil magic with you?
Kanti: Well-
Rei: Oh, go on, tell him, Kanti! Tell him about that thing you can do!
Adlai: What thing?
Rei: And there’s no such thing as good and evil magic. Just good and evil people.
Kanti: It’s not that I can do it; it’s just that it happens sometimes. When someone’s dead I can kinda, you know, see into their past. But they have to of died recently. And I can’t do it with most people.
Tao: Well, we’re invading Fortress Albion, my friend. Good time to find yourself some corpses.
Rei: Maybe even your own.
Adlai: Hey, Kanti, do that spell again for the camera.
Adlai raises her camera then, seeing her watch, realizes that they are late for the mission briefing.
Adlai: Oh! Never mind, briefing’s at 18:00; we're gonna be late!
Adlai jumps up and runs from the room. The others also stand.
Tao: Run, little mouse.
Rei: I got us covered Kanti; don't worry about it (Showing the pendant to Kanti and winking). It is real gold.
As Kanti and Rei leave the living quarters, they encounter Khand, their turban-wearing sergeant, and in terms of personality very much a cranky sergeant stereotype.
Khand: Briefing's about to start; what in the Nether are you idiots doing?
Kanti (narrating): Then there's Sergeant Khand. He’s a sweetheart.
Khand: Oh, you think you're special, huh? The Orks are gonna eat you alive.
Rei: No, not me, sergeant. I’m high in salt.
Khand: Watch your lip, Rei. On me.
Khand leaves. The other two move to follow.
Rei: Since I'm obviously on a lucky streak, whatever happens, stay close. First Albion, then the Great Pale, then home in time for tea and medals. We got this, Kanti.
Scene fades out.
All of the 66th Infantry Division troops are on the deck of the ship as the rain pours down and Colonel Kitwana, a Swahili man, gives his pre-battle speech. As he does, we see the soldiers assembled watching him.
Kitwana: Today… we embark on an operation of unparalleled importance. To establish a beachhead in Albion… and roll back the Ork horde... that has terrorized the world since before many of you were born. We are all that separates the world from darkness. This is so much more than a chance to be heroes in our own lifetimes. If we prevail… our triumphs will be etched into the hearts and minds of a grateful world for untold generations. I'm talking about glory. True glory.
Kanti narrates her letter to Luna and soldiers begin to climb down the cargo net on the side of the ship into landing craft. These craft start making for the Albion coast.
Kanti (narrating): Colonel Kitwana can give a nice speech. His pep talk reminded me of the one Coach Pakwa gave us on our Mother’s Night game against Susquehanna. I'm sure you remember we lost by 67 points. (Focuses on Sokolov and Khand) Always looking over Khand’s shoulders is Lieutenant Sokolov. He's got him on a tight leash. But if Khand breaks free, we'll all get bit. Ever since I found my gift, I wanted to be like you, Luna. You've always been a tough act to follow. But I'll do my best.
Gameplay
We are now in first-person again as Kanti.
Kanti (narrating): It's now or never.
Kanti is writing in her notebook, the photo of Luna pinned to a page, as their landing craft drives for the Albion shore. Kanti is interrupted by Rei.
Rei: Hey! I wish I was coming home to her!
Kanti: That’s my sister! Just wait ‘til we hit Lutetia. Enough girls for the rest of your long life.
Rei: I’m starting to realise how far away it is.
Kanti take a quick glance at her notebook and closes it before tucking it into her pack.
Sokolov: Remember. No digging in at the shore. You advance. You need to stay low and do not bunch up. Stick to your training and you're gonna make it through.
Khand: Most of you, anyway.
Medium bombers pass by overhead, resembling the Junkers Ju 88 (in this universe known as Dragons) on a heading towards Albion.
Tao: Alright! Give em hell, boys.
Text appears across the screen.
X-DAY Lùnastal 17th, 397 NE Rheged, Northern Albion
Rei: The beaches are meant to be flattened, right?
Khand: You sound scared, Private.
Rei: No, sir.
Khand: You should be.
Driver: Hey, you! You!
Kanti turns to look at the landing craft’s driver behind her.
Driver: Got a light?
Kanti: Sure thing.
Kanti snaps her fingers a couple times and produces the flame again.
Driver: Oh – you’re one of them.
Soldier: Never trust a witch.
As the driver lights his cigarette on her finger, a bullet hits the boat’s machine gunner in the throat; he falls, flailing, with blood spurting out of his neck like in a Tarantino film. Shells start to fall.
Driver: Bastards!
Sokolov: Everyone down!
Rei: This is it!
Ork artillery lands in the grey ocean all around, spraying the craft with water. Kanti crouches with the rest of the troops.
Soldier: Watch out!
Bullets bounce off the landing craft’s armour.
Soldier: This isn’t fun!
Driver: Five hundred yards!
Another shell lands nearby and sprays the craft with water. Kanti trips but is held up by Khand grabbing her arm.
Driver: We’re gonna have to pull off!
Sokolov: No, we stay on mission! You're taking us in!
Driver: We must have drifted! I can't see the landmark!
Khand: You heard the lieutenant. Full speed!
Sokolov: Incoming!
An artillery shells blows up the neighbouring landing craft.
Soldier: By the Gods!
Sokolov: Hold tight!
An artillery shell, again, lands near the boat.
Kanti: Damn it!
Driver: Two hundred yards!
Looking up, a Dragon bomber is visible coming down with an engine on fire.
Driver: Twenty seconds!
Sokolov: Remember the plan! Get to the seawall!
Khand: Ceres! Aradove! Get the bangalore to the wire, fast! Everyone ready? Here we go!
Sokolov: Drop the ramp!
Driver: There's no cover!
Khand: That was an order, damn you! Drop it!
The ramp drops just as a landing craft consumed with flames comes crashing into theirs.
Rei: Oh, shit!
Kanti is knocked off her feet by the impact. Looking up, she watches as machine gun fire from the clifftops chops down a number of soldiers on the boat now that the ramp has been dropped. One has his head blown off and his neck is left spouting blood over Kanti as others are also cut down.
Sokolov: Over the sides! Now! Now!
Kanti follows as the survivors climb over the boat’s side. She stays underwater for a few seconds before being helped to her feet by Sokolov, spluttering.
Sokolov: I got you, child!
Just behind him, the beach is consumed by fighting and the noise of war is deafening.
Sokolov: Get your head down and keep moving!
Sokolov leads Kanti out of the surf, a burning soldier falls screaming from another landing craft and into the water, while carnage reigns all around. Bodies are floating all about and the water is red with blood.
Sokolov: Kanti; on me!
Running through the sand as explosions go off all around, artillery can be seen curling from the Ork lines towards the beach. Sokolov and Kanti hit the deck in front of some Ork tank traps.
Sokolov: Demolition team is dead! Take the bangalore and get to the seawall! We need to clear a path to the bunkers!
Kanti temporarily looks away, back to the water, and witnesses the bloodshed of soldiers dying, and a number running out of a landing craft on fire, while a warship close to shore opens fire on the coastal defences. Sokolov gets Kanti’s attention.
Sokolov: Kanti!
An explosion goes off nearby, half-soaking Sokolov’s face with gore. Someone just blew up.
Sokolov: This is your job! You got that?! Now pick up the banger!
Kanti moves the severed arm of a dead soldier to retrieve the bangalore. She looks upon the dead soldier’s corpse and, suddenly, her vision fades away and she sees his memories. This is the first of the Internal Vortex collectibles which can be found throughout the game, whereby additional lore is provided through Kanti’s ability to tap into the memories of certain corpses (human and Ork). In this case, the accessed memory tells a brief story of the soldier (Private Omid Afshani) and how he was part of a traditional military family and all his brothers have already fallen, told he would be a general someday, how he was born on a ship evacuating Persia (which goes some way to explaining why the Imperial military is so multiethnic – the whole world evacuated to the Americas) and how his last letter home from the ship told of how “I can’t wait to hear the birdsong again.”
Afterwards, she returns to lucidity.
Sokolov: Kanti! Kanti! You with me?!
Kanti: Yes!
Sokolov: You can do this!
Sokolov stands and starts running up the beach. Kanti watches after him.
Kanti: I hope so, sir!
Kanti looks at the dead soldier that was carrying the torpedo bangalore, and with one hand closes his eyes.
Kanti: Sorry.
Kanti takes the body’s R7 Remi rifle (comparable to the M1 Garand) and proceeds up the beachhead, trying not to get killed. The machine gun nests in the clifftop fortifications will open fire on the soldiers then wait for a few seconds to reload. This will be the player's chance to move up to avoid taking damage. The player moves from cover to cover – tank traps, the wreckage of vehicles such as half-tracks and light tanks, and shell craters, mostly.
Khand: Hurry before they reload! Move it!
Sokolov: Kanti! This way! Hurry! Stop and you’re dread!
Tao: Shit!
Sokolov: Those MGs are killing us! Get off the beach!
Khand: Private Kanti – get to the seawall!
Rei: Get to the seawall! I’ll meet you there!
A couple of armoured vehicles – light tanks resembling Soviet BT-7s, here called LT-5 Termites – are now also moving up the beach and providing fire support. One blows up.
Sokolov: Keep low. When there’s a break in the fire, run for it!
There’s a break in the fire – you run for it.
Sokolov: Kanti, get the bangalore!
When Kanti reaches the seawall, which is made up of a big mound of sand lined at its top by barbed fire and burning gasoline, she falls against it. Her fellow soldiers fall in alongside her or are already there. A lot of wounded are also there, being treated by medics as machine gun fire flies over their heads. Rei falls next to Kanti, her face covered in dirt and blood.
Rei: Kanti! Use the banger; I'll cover you! After we breach, keep pushing toward the bunker!
Kanti: You’re covered in blood.
Rei: It’s not mine. Focus!
Kanti sets up the torpedo bangalore, made up of two cylindrical rods, with the second able to fit inside the first. Her handling is shaky and she drops one rod. Rei picks it up for her and gives it back.
Rei: We're nearly there!
Kanti pushes the torpedo bangalore into the seawall.
Rei: Pull it! Pull it!
Kanti: Fire in the hole!
Kanti scrambles backwards and the bangalore explodes, tearing a hole in the seawall for the soldiers to pour through, dirt pouring down like rain.
Sokolov: Weapons ready! Fix bayonets!
Kanti fumbles for her bayonet and fixes it to her rifle. You can now use this as a melee weapon against enemy infantry.
Rei: Ready to see your first Ork?
Sokolov: Attack!
Sokolov leads the troops through the hole – and many, though not Sokolov, are cut down.
Rei: Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!
Sokolov: Push forward!
After passing through the hole, you are faced with a clearing sprinkled with tank traps and barbed wire. After that, trenches, and then the bluffs with fortifications spitting machine gun fire.
Rei: Into the trench! Hurry!
Soldier: Orks!
You now face your first Ork drones as you push towards the trenches. Once you get into the trench, you slowly clear it and a mortar position, presumably losing Health as you do. Once done, you turn a corner deeper into the trenches where Rei is located.
Rei: That wound looks bad! Here, take this!
Rei throws a health pack to Kanti. The player can now call on Rei, when the squad meter fills, to add a pack for a total of four.
Kanti: Many thanks!
The player moves through the trenches, clearing out Ork drones. Friendly troops leap across the trenches. The player then gets to the end of the trenches and reaches the bluffs covered by Ork fortifications. A slope goes uphill between the bluffs but machine gun fire pins the friendly troops down and makes it impassable.
Khand: We can't advance with those MGs firing on our position!
Sokolov: Hold tight. Fire support incoming!
Khand: Kanti, mark the target!
Khand throws a canister to Kanti. Kanti catches it and throws it uphill towards the Ork bunkers. Red smoke emanates. Sokolov is shouting into a radio.
Sokolov: Kestrel, target is lit up! Hit it now and hit it hard!
Radio: Roger, we have your smoke visual. Attack run inbound.
Explosions hit the MG bunker as rockets from a trio of dive-bombing jets which resemble de Havilland Vampires (in this universe called Banshees) come in and obliterate the fortifications. The jets pass by close overhead.
Tao: That's it! Let 'em have it!
Adlai: MGs are dead!
Kanti: (laughs) They tore them to shreds!
Sokolov: Get to the top!
You and your squad move up the hill – a wounded Ork, both arms missing, stumbles from the smoke and still tries to fight by biting at Sokolov. Sokolov shoots it down.
Sokolov: Crazy bastards.
More Ork infantry advance.
Ork: I shall wear your hide as a coat!
After defeating these Orks, the player advances to the top of the hill through which additional trenches burrow.
Sokolov: Kanti; I need you and Rei to take point and clear those bunkers! Go!
Rei: Had to be us!
You move in with your squad. There are five bunkers to clear. The first has a clearing full of mortar positions, where Ork infantry defend, and there’s more firing at you from inside the bunker itself.
Sokolov: Orks are dug in. Kanti, get a grenade in that bunker!
You break into the bunker and clear it out, including the machine gun post covering the beach.
Rei: First one’s down!
Sokolov: Bunker’s clear – everyone out.
You move on. Taking the adjoining trenches, you come across an Ork Officer – larger and more heavily armoured than the Drones you’ve been fighting so far – holding a human soldier by the neck. Assuming you shoot him in the head, the only non-armoured part, he’ll go down and the soldier is saved.
Soldier: Thanks! I owe you!
If not, and your bullets bounce off the Officer’s armour, he crushes the man’s neck in his hand and comes for you.
After that, you drive on through the trenches, killing a few more Orks, before turning and entering an underground bunker. Inside, the entry is covered by a machine gun post.
Khand: MG's pinning us! Someone toss a smoke!
You can do that, or you can perhaps kill the machine gunner. Up to you. Afterwards, you drive on through the underground bunker. It’s a bit of a catacomb full of dormitories and a radio room. Eventually, you clear it.
Khand: Bunker's clear. Let's go!
Sokolov: Everybody out, bunker's clear!
You head back outside, 2 of 5 bunkers complete. You continue through the trenches, meeting fresh Orks.
Rei: There’s artillery hitting the beach! The next assault wave won’t make it!
Khand: Keep pushing! That artillery is hammering our ships!
Kanti: On it, sir! Yeah, I can do this, I can do this…
You carry on through the trench. Some Banshee jet fighters screech overhead. Reaching the entrance to the next bunker, you see a friendly – Corporal Lieu – with an F3 Inferno – a backpack flamethrower. He fires it down the bunker at unseen enemy troops before being gunned down.
Kanti: I'm going in!
Rei: Careful!
You enter the bunker – you can pick up the F3 Inferno as you do, which doesn’t last long but which is fun to use.
Ork: Come, little men!
You clear the bunker. As you reach the machine gun post, you enter into a quicktime moment. Kanti gets ambushed around a corner by an Ork soldier, who grabs her by the throat and pins her to the wall, but she jams her combat knife into his neck. Falling from his grasp, she sees the machine gunner just as a shell from a ship offshore hits the bunker dead-on and blows it, and him, to smithereens. Rei appears from the dust and helps Kanti to her feet.
Rei: Shit! Fucking Navy. Don’t they believe in us?
Returning from the machine gun nest, some Orks have shown up to try and retake the bunker. Take them out and then the bunker’s cleared.
The next bunker is just a hop from this one – you enter, at first finding nobody, before discovering an Ork pinning an Imperial soldier to the wall.
Soldier: Somebody help!
You, I should hope, kill the Ork.
Soldier: Thanks! Oh, hey, a girl…
Kanti: You wish.
You drive into the bunker, in the heart of which is a mortar position, and take out the Ork defenders. With that, the bunker is cleared.
Khand: Move up, move up!
Everyone rallies at the big steel door at the end of the bunker.
Khand: Adlai. Tao. With me. Kanti, you and Rei clear the next bunker. Rally at the top of the bluff, and for fuck’s sake try not to get yourselves killed.
You interact with the big steel door and open it, before going with Rei down some more trenches.
Kanti: Alright, Rei. One more!
Rei: We got this!
You turn a corner into a clearing before the bunker. There’s Orks both defending it on the ground and a sniper on top of the bunker itself. After dealing with this, you head inside, Rei behind you.
As you enter the bunker, Kanti is ambushed by an Ork Major – she is thrown to the floor and the Ork stands over her, pulling out a knife.
Ork: Never did fear smell so sweet.
Rei jumps onto its back and holds onto him around the neck. The Ork manages to throw Rei onto the ground before stabbing her through the belly.
Kanti: Rei! Oh, shit, no!
The Ork soldier leaves the wounded Rei, knife still sticking from her stomach, and approaches Kanti.
Ork: Stand and face me, woman. Show some honour.
Kanti stands and fights the Ork, which through its superior strength easily ends up on top of her, taking away her knife and now pushing it down towards her with both hands. Then, Kanti’s hands light up and the flames return – her whole hands are on fire. The Ork roars in pain and surprise and backs away, looking at its burned hands, before Kanti runs at him as the flames go out and tackles him to the ground. The Ork is still stronger and goes back to throttling her – but they’ve fallen near Rei, who yanks the knife out of her belly and jams it into the Ork’s chest.
Ork: The glory…
The Ork dies. Kanti climbs off and approaches Rei, who suddenly brandishes a pistol.
Kanti: Whoa, Rei…
Rei: Duck!
Kanti does so and Rei shoots the unseen Ork which was behind her. Kanti looks back to Rei, who is dealing with quite a lot of pain.
Kanti: Come on, you’re okay, you’re okay.
Rei: I can't walk.
Kanti pulls up Rei’s uniform to see her stomach – the wound is gushing blood.
Kanti: Oh, shit…
Rei: That bad?
Kanti: It’s not great.
Rei: Would you mind getting me out of here?
An explosion, presumably artillery – Kanti looks down the bunker to see it shudder, rubble falling from the ceiling.
Kanti: Yeah, course, no problem Kinsi, just stay with me, okay? Can you do that?
Rei: I’m gonna have to try. Pulling that knife out was pretty fucking stupid, huh?
Kanti: No comment. Come on.
The player starts dragging Rei out of the bunker and outside. Across a pretty dangerous clearing are friendly lines.
Kanti: We've gotta get back to friendly lines!
Kanti starts dragging Rei across the grass
Rei: On your left!
Kanti shoots the Orks which appear from the left with her pistol and keeps going.
Rei: You’re gonna… have to tell me… how you did that fire thing.
Kanti: I will when I figure it out myself!
They keep going.
Kanti: Not much further. Just keep pressure on that wound.
Rei: I’m trying!
Kanti drags Rei to a wall of sandbags and clambers over them.
Kanti: We gotta take cover!
Rei, in what is pretty clearly a painful endeavour, follows suit and lays in the mud. With her pistol, Kanti faces the Orks now coming for them.
Ork: Tasty, salty man-flesh!
Rei: How many?
Kanti: Too many!
Once the Orks are dispatched, Kanti looks back down at Rei.
Kanti: We're clear! Come on!
Kanti starts dragging Rei through the mud.
Rei: You call that fuckin' clear?
They skirt the edge of the trenches – an Imperial soldier with a flamethrower is dousing a group of Orks in fire. They continue along the edge of the trench, which is lined with barbed wire and so inaccessible, at least for Rei.
Rei: I'm losing too much blood. I think. You need more than half, right?
Kanti: Just hang in there! I gotta find a clearing to get in the trench!
Kanti places Rei down as smoke canisters pop, obscuring the next Ork wave to come their way.
Ork (from somewhere in the smoke): The clan will feast on you!
Kanti: Keep your head down!
Rei: Did you get 'em?
Kanti: They keep coming! How many of these fuckers are there?!
After taking out four or five, Kanti turns back to Rei.
Rei: Watch out!
Rei, with her sidearm, shoots down an Ork drone running at them from behind.
Rei: Still got it.
Kanti: Now’s our chance!
Kanti keep dragging Rei along the edge of the trench, smoke from the Ork canisters obscuring everything. As she goes, an Ork grenade lands at her feet.
Kanti: Fuck!
Kanti throws grabs it and throws it away. She sees an open area in the trench.
Kanti: Bingo!
Kanti jumps down into the trench, up to her ankles in mud, then turns back to Rei.
Kanti: I got you!
Rei rolls off the edge of the trench and lands in the mud at Kanti’s feet. A few more Orks appear from the smoke and Kanti shoots them down. She then looks down at Rei, who’s on the edge of losing consciousness, and then looks down the trench where more Ork infantry are coming at them.
Kanti: Oh, give us a break!
Kanti takes them out. Then, she turns back to Rei and starts dragging her down the trench.
Rei: Oh, wow, I'm actually bleeding out.
Kanti: Just keep pressure on it!
Rei: I’m trying! I’m trying!
Kanti: Almost there!
They reach some concrete steps – a friendly soldier is at the top.
Soldier: Come on up here! Move, move!
Kanti starts dragging Rei up the stairs – the soldier runs down and helps.
Soldier: I got you!
Two Orks come around the corner – someone on the top of the stairs shoots them both down. They reach the top of the stairs and find themselves in the middle of a friendly improvised triage centre. Kanti lays Rei down, whose face is very dazed, as she flicks off her helmet, blood trickling from her mouth.
Kanti: Okay. Stay with me. Healer!
Nobody comes – everyone’s busy.
Rei: I need morphine. All the morphine.
Kanti takes out a syringe of morphine, pulls off the cap with her teeth, and injects Rei in the thigh. Rei’s breathing is strained and painful. Kanti puts a hand under her head as a pillow.
Kanti: You gotta hang on. Those girls in Lutetia are waiting for you.
Rei: Really?
Kanti: Of course.
Rei: I… uh… how about another look at your sister?
Rei manages a smile, sniggering through the pain, and Kanti laughs, too.
Kanti: You’re infuriating.
Rei: It's okay. I can't see shit. I'm just gonna rest right here.
Rei’s eyes close.
Kanti: No, no, no, you need to stay awake. Hey.
Kanti puts her hand against Rei’s face, slapping her awake, and Rei’s eyes open.
Rei: Mona…
Kanti: I'm here.
Rei makes eye contact.
Rei: Help me.
Kanti: I need a fucking Healer!
A Healer finishes treating a wounded soldier and rushes over, taking over from Kanti in trying to stop the bleeding.
Healer: I got this! Go!
Kanti looks back down at Rei.
Kanti: But… but I…
Sokolov appears, standing over them.
Sokolov: Kanti! He'll take care of her. I need you with me. (to others) Listen up! There's an Ork cannon just a little up the road. It's tearing up the beach – we’re gonna stop it. Let's roll!
Kanti looks back down at Rei, who’s reaching out to her. Kanti takes her hand for a moment.
Kanti: Just stay alive, okay?
For a moment, with Rei on the very edge of death, little flickers of her memories flash before Kanti’s eyes. We see her mother telling her she’s a disappointment, Rei sitting in a prison cell, and then being told by a recruiting officer that “the Army’s running out of men – we need some ladies ready to be heroes.” Then Kanti returns to lucidity and Rei’s face.
Rei: I promise.
Their hands part and Kanti stands, grabbing a rifle, and joins the rest of the squad.
Sokolov: Check your ammo and grenades!
Khand: You heard him! Up the road, now!
Kanti and the rest of the squad move out of the top of the bunker, along a field pock-marked with craters, then go onto a dirt road leading towards a farm.
Kanti: Moving up!
Khand: Let's move!
Sokolov: Be ready – these Orks don’t look like the surrendering type!
You keep moving up the road, finding some dead cows as you go.
Khand: Move fast! They're shelling the beach to shit!
You reach the target – a machine-gun nest is set up in a half-destroyed farmhouse and starts shooting at you as you appear.
Sokolov: MG in the hay loft! Take cover and take it out!
After taking out the machine gun, you keep moving up to fight Orks among the farmhouses and hay bales. A large artillery cannon is in the centre and you move to clear it and secure the area, moving in a couple of the farmhouses to do so.
Adlai: Where’s all the civilians?
Khand: In the Ork’s stomachs, probably!
Once you’ve cleared everything, silence seems to fall.
Soldier: Orks coming in from the south! A lot of them!
Sokolov: They’re gonna try to retake the cannon! We gotta hold this position!
Khand: Not a step backwards!
The squad defends the position as a couple waves of Orks swarm towards them. You can use the machine gun posts in the upper floors of the farmhouses to help fight them off.
Adlai: There’s too many of them!
Khand: Hold! Have courage!
Still the Orks swarm the field to the south – until explosions start to blow them away. Termite tanks appear from the left, their 45mm guns tearing through the Orks, which are either slaughtered or flee.
Tao: Our boys are coming in!
Adlai: Look at them scatter!
Sokolov: Alright, everyone. We mopped them up good. I don’t think they’ll be back.
Khand: Clear! Destroy that cannon!
Kanti goes to the cannon and crouches down behind it. An Imperial soldier appears next to her.
Soldier: Thermite!
The soldier carries a number of thermite charges inside his helmet like a bucket and empties them out in front of Kanti. Kanti lights one of them.
Kanti: Fire in the hole!
Everyone backs away – you probably should too – and the thermite explodes. The cannon is destroyed.
Sokolov: Excellent work, Kanti. Alright, everyone, rally on me to the assembly point. Khand, I'll need a casualty report. We lost so many.
Khand: But we took the beach.
Sokolov: What a price.
At the rally point, Rei is on a stretcher on the ground, a cigarette in her mouth as Tao is knelt next to her.
Rei: Kanti...
Rei tries to sit up and Tao puts out a hand to encourage her to lay back down. Given the pain on Rei’s face, that’s probably a good idea.
Tao: Man, I thought I'd seen everything…
Kanti: She gonna be okay?
Tao: Yeah. They taped her up pretty good.
Rei: I should’ve stayed on the boat.
Tao: Oh, now she tells us.
Kanti: Hey, what you did back there… I owe you. Big time.
Rei: I’d say we're even.
Kanti: We'll see this through.
Rei smiles.
Rei: To the end. I guess.
Kanti: Whenever that may be.
Sokolov and Khand walk by behind Rei; Sokolov addresses everyone. Kanti glances up at them, then back at Rei, who just gives her a knowing nod, then stands as she looks back at their superiors.
Sokolov: Beachhead's secured. We'll bivouac at the second hedgerow after the ridge. It’s not over, everyone.
Behind them, a couple of dead Orks are being examined. Adlai is taking photos of one while a soldier gently kicks the head of another.
Soldier: Stop kicking it.
Soldier #2: I don’t wanna.
Khand regards Kanti. There’s blood in his beard.
Khand: Welcome to the Smiling Sixty Sixth. You're a long way from home, farm girl.
Khand walks off. Sokolov watches Kanti, then approaches when Khand is out of earshot.
Sokolov: That’s his way of saying he’s grateful. You did well. Not bad for your first day.
Kanti: Thanks, sir. I, uh…
Sokolov puts a hand on Kanti’s shoulder.
Sokolov: You'll be alright, child.
Kanti: Yes, sir.
Sokolov pats her shoulder, nods, then walks off. Kanti looks down at her hands, covered in dirt and blood, which hold each other before slowly separating.
Kanti: Course I will.
The level ends.

2023.06.04 22:52 FancyBrain9648 Wooden disks fill splits

Wooden disks fill splits
In my burn out, I am attempting more kinds of hand work as relaxation. I have been more active in crochet and knitting and saw these wooden disks somewhere in my neighbourhood for €15,- and for me it had the potential to be used in a very cool project I found on Pinterest: DIY Plantstand
I have 0 expertise in woodworks though so I want to ask you some questions.
  • as the photo shows, the disks have splits. I wanted to sand and oil them (or seal? I have no clue whatsoever so any tips are welcome). Can I put some kind of filler in the splits and will I be able to attach these disks to a wooden pole or will this set-up break?
  • if this project has no viability whatsoever, what would you do with these disks?
Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi, I moved into an new home where I was left with a sand lot in the backyard. There is an AC unit behind the window where I am taking the photo but everything else is sand.
I would like to get this bad boy ready to add a section of drought tolerant grass, a place for a fire pit l, some type of tree and some local vegetation. I have a 1k budget and a desert nursery down the street.
I like lots of dark greens and purples and I’d like to add those types of plants to our backyard. Any info would be so helpful!

2023.06.04 21:20 pennycam04 Need some advice/ help with my Japanese Maple, Ninebark, and Hibiscus

Need some advice/ help with my Japanese Maple, Ninebark, and Hibiscus
Hello there reddit gardeners, I am having some issues with a Japanese Maple, a ninebark, and a common hibiscus in my yard. I live in Chicago. These were all planted in late fall last year (2022) so they are basically brand new. I have always had roses and can care for roses and hydrangeas pretty well but these are new to me.
The Japanese Maple worries me the most. As you all can see it IS growing leaves but the branches that had been established when planted last fall are bare. The maple is in the front of the house, and most of that area gets morning sun until about 12/1230pm. I do water it daily and I give it two deep waters a week, however I will admit that I was late to start on this routine. It did not begin until May and we had already had some hot days in April (again, new to these plants, sorry tree. Since the tree is on the far left side of the yard, the sun also shines on it between my house and the neighbors house for the majority of the afternoon and evening (seen in photo #2). I have read that Japanese Maples need shade so I am wondering if that might be part of it as well?
The ninebark suddenly had these powdery leaves on Friday, no idea where that came from or what it is (photos #4 and 5) but the plant itself is growing new leaves (photo #6). And the Hibiscus also very suddenly had this spiderweb-y stuff on the top leave- the top leaves only - and what almost looked like sand stuck in it tho I am worried this might be some sort of aphid (photo #7). It's only on the hibiscus though which is odd. There is another hibiscus in the front yard with the same thing happening.
Thank you all in advance.

2023.06.04 20:33 330pmcq614 Warning about Columbus Car Audio Learn from me!

TL;DR: Went to Columbus Car Audio to get a window tint for my used Mercedes E350. Despite an initial inspection, they missed a factory tint which cost an extra $200 to remove (that they did waive, which was nice) and in the process, ruined my rear defroster - something they didn't warn me could happen. The original quote of $650 didn't include windshield or doors, adding another $350 for the windshield and $30 for each door. End result? I paid double the original quote. Despite decent work on the tint, communication and transparency were severely lacking. If you're in Columbus and need a window tint, you might want to avoid these guys, especially if your car has its own quirks.
Hey everyone, buckle up for a wild ride I just had with Columbus Car Audio. Googled: “Best window tint Columbus” and ended up here. I'm putting this cautionary tale out there so everyone can learn from my lesson.
Backstory: I own a slightly sun-damaged used Mercedes E350. She’s not as pretty as she once was, but she’s mine. After seeing the dash worsen already this Spring, I thought, "Why not save the peeling dashboard with a window tint?" So I looked up a few places, found Columbus Car Audio, and saw their pretty solid online reviews. Filled in their web form and started chatting with a rep.
Took the car in a week early for an inspection for them to check out a dodgy speaker and give me a proper quote for the tint job. They had this $100 appointment hold thing I paid for and I was thinking, "All's good so far".
Fast forward to the appointment day (Wednesday), they still hadn't given me a final quote. Not wanting to miss my chance at an appointment, I took the car in and the rep walked me through the tinting stuff and ceramic upgrade I chose. Everything seemed cool except for this vague mention of potential extra charges on my way out after signing the quote. Red flags, anyone?
So, come Wednesday evening, they rang me saying they had goofed up. Apparently, my car had a factory tint that needed removing – an extra $200. They'd missed this earlier, but I thought, "What the heck, let's just get this done. I already dropped it off."
Come Thursday, I get another call and voicemail, this time they accidentally ruined my rear defroster while removing the old tint. The rep explained this was extremely common and out of their control. I was frustrated because at no point during the process had they explained that was a possibility and told her that, so she offered to waive the tint removal fee. The $200 savings there was a small consolation, but things just kept snowballing. They also doubled their quote for the speaker check later that day, so I told them let’s stop the bleeding and I’ll just pick it up tomorrow.
I was away for work and with the way airlines have been lately I didn’t trust I’d land before they closed, so I asked my brother to grab the keys for me. Little did I know they'd invoice him double the original quote when he paid with my card. All in all:
Removing rear tint killed my rear defroster (which they never warned could happen) The original quote ($650) didn’t include the windshield or any doors The windshield itself cost me an extra $350, which I’d asked for from the start Each door was a surprise $30
At the end of the day, I know I messed up. I was too quick to trust and too slow to question something I knew nothing about. But I hope my ordeal can save someone else a future headache (and wallet ache, jesus christ). For what it's worth, the tint job doesn't look bad, aside from the defroster residue they left on my rear windshield. (see photo)
Columbus Car Audio folks, no hard feelings, but your communication on your services and their risks sucks. If I knew about the factory tint and risks earlier, I would have bailed out. Springing all these surprises midway through ain't cool.
I was hoping for the best window tint in Columbus, but after what I experienced, that can’t be from here. Especially if your ride has any quirks. Save yourself the trouble!

Time Stamp <- also photos
2015 Honda CRF250L with 7796 miles.
I bought this bike with the intent to go off-roading in the pine barrens with my brother, but then had a kid and now having another… so on the chopping block it goes..
Accessories on the bike: - FMF Power Core exhaust and FMF Power Bomb header -JD Jetting fuel tunner -RaceTech .50kg front spring (new fork seals from all balls racing and Spectro Gold 85/150 5w fork oil when this was installed on both shocks) -EBC clutch plates & heavy duty springs (replaces and removes the judder plate) -Flatland racing skid plate -Kemi Moto luggage rack -Fender eliminator w/ LED tail light and turn signals -Tusk wrap around aluminum hand guards with built in turn signals -LED turn signal flasher relay -LED headlight -Blue Sea 12v plug with 3D printed holder next to dash -Michelin Anakee Wild front and rear tire (approximately 100-150 miles on them) -13 tooth front sprocket -EVAP canister and lines removed and plugged off (original parts included in box should you wish to reinstall them) -Moose racing handle bar
Only issue the bike has is that the stickers I put on it are peeling.. I didn’t read the directions to apply heat after they have been put on to set them, rather then stretch with heat like I did…
Willing to meet up within reasonable distance.
Looking for PVS14 as partial trade.
TV: $4,400 SV: $4,200
My apologies I will edit post to include, but SE PA 19525. Willing to meet within few hours drive…

2023.06.04 15:27 IMAWNIT 12-Day Trip Review and Things I learned - Long Post

Hi everyone! This forum was very helpful in the last few weeks prior to my trip. My trip was from May 22 to June 2.
This was a trip 3 years in the making and then Covid happened in 2020 and we had to cancel almost everything. Rebooked everything last year and resumed.
Our itinerary was ambitious but doable and we decided to rent a car and drive around the country/ring road with stops at the major sties that interested us. Here are the details and notable memorable things for those interested:
- We noticed about 90% of people who drive around the country go counterclockwise. When researching I wasn't sure what the reasoning was. We decided to go Clockwise and 100% would recommend it for us; given the time of year we went. For every 25+ cars we saw going the OPPOSITE direction, we had 1 on our direction. Which meant less cars to deal with for us. Having said that, we chose to do Golden Circle last and by then it was "underwhelming" as I had read and agree after going to the rest of the country.
- We rented from Blue Car rental and they were amazing. Loved the service, the car was great, pick up and drop off was a breeze and they had almost the cheapest price for us.
- AVOID GRAVEL ROADS AT ALL COSTS! Google maps base it on speed limit and most are 80km/hr but I don't think anyone does it and we ended up driving 50km/hr for most and it felt like we wasted more time. If I could find all paved roads instead and take a longer route I would recommend. SOme pothole IMO were way too large even for our car.
- We were WELL prepared for clothing; waterproof out shells, fleece inner and layers. BUT I'd suggest getting the lightest waterproof shell cause during hike I took off all layers and my "parka" was heavy. It the only waterproof shell I had. My husband had a light one and was fine.
- Never need merino wool base layers, walking sticks etc. Brought them for no reason.
- I didn't care too much about precipitation nor temperature but the WIND is the true enemy. It is insane and really determines your success. Some spots I originally thought (we can picnic with our own lunch) and that never happened. Decided early on to just eat in the car due to weather and wind.
- We brought granola bars, protein powder for breakfast, instant noodles and then just bought bread/ham/PB and Jelly at grocery stores. Food was reasonable in grocery stores and we ate most meals there. To be honest, Bonus was so hyped when I researched that in the end, I preferred Netto and bought most grocery items from Kronan. WAAAAY more selection, better quality and to be honest I barely noticed the difference in price. The real difference in price is gas stations and small town "stores" for food.
- I researched pumping gas but it was still a bit confusing at first. Getting receipts and other items is odd to me but we managed near the end
- Yellow and wind days are scary and it nearly ruined 2 days and it basically cancelled most excursions. Snafellsness was cut short due to wind and it was insane and it was our first day out of Reykjavik. It was beautiful though and Arnarstapi was my favourite of all stops even though we had a ton of places planned. We basically skipped the beaches as the weather got bad.
- Stay flexible, all of my planned stops had a "mandatory" or "optional" so I can figure what to do if thigns came up. If an excursion cancelled; we had a backup. I'd basically say minimize (unless you REALLY want to) any water-related activity; whale watching, kayaking etc because wind is a huge factor. To be honest whale watching when on my last was OK. We saw whales and dolphins but the waves were "calm" but nnot for me so after a while I was fine heading back. But I'm glad I did it.
- Favourite places: Arnarstapi, Studlagil Canyon (when I went we walked entirely from further paking lot on east side, anyone car can get to the closer parking lot to save 1hr of extra walking), Puffins in Borgarfjardarhofn, Hverir and Hverfell (impromptu hike and it was amazing), Myvatn in general was a favourite of mine, Jokulsarlon Glacier and Diamond Beach, Black Sand Beaches, the drive in North Iceland when it was all snowcaps and Gljufragui.
- Most waterfalls up north were not that impressive (Godafoss and Dettifoss) tbh. And south waterfalls somehow felt more attractions than natural wonders imo.
- When we did eat out the food quality was excellent for what it was but the prices for many things were hard to justify; so we ate out minimally. Sad to say I personally don't think Scandinavian food in general (sorry to generalize) isn't for me for long term; I really missed other flavours like spices etc.
- We loved basically all of our stays; guesthouses, hotels, apartments etc. We had a mix. Grund I Grundarfirdi for Snaefellsness was great! K16 apartments in Akureyri was excellent! Hotels down in Hofn and Kirkjubaejarklaustur were also very nice.
- 1 day max in Reykjavik is more than enough
- We had to skip a few places due to weather: hike saxholl crater, Raudfeldsgja gorge, beaches, Asbyrgi (it was between puffins or this and it was a no brainer), Seydisfjordur, Hvalnes, Vestrahorn, top side of Dyrholaey, Kvernufiss, Reykjadalu hot springs, Bruarfoss
- We went to Myvatn Hot springs and Laugarvatn Fontana. Myvatn was amazing. Laugarvatn was alright; more like a fancier local swimming pool. We did not do any other hot springs.
- Thingvellir to be honest is skippable. Wish we did the Reyjadalu instead.
- I felt the time or yeaday we went or maybe direction we headed, I expected WAY more tourists; especially southern coast. The busiest day was at Thingvellir and it was busy but not unbearable. All other places were quite quiet and pretty decent imo. Even north Iceland felt a little busier at Godafoss and Hverir vs the Southern coast.
- All in all I enjoyed my trip but felt I did what I planned to do and being sick the last few days (best not to eat mystery cold fish during a breakfast buffet) didn't help either as I spent a lot of time worrying about the restroom situation when I went. All locals and people we were met were friendly, nice, helpful and made our stay welcoming and fun. All tours and excursions we did end up doing (horseback riding in Vik, Kayaking in Stokkseyri and whale watching in Reykjavik (last minute booking since the Akureyri one was cancelled) were all well done. Oh and ice cream here is amazing! I'm glad I tried it as often as I could!

Ah, man, so cool you guys. I'd love to meet them someday, they must be so awesome. I feel like they'd like the real me, you know what I mean? But like, I'm kind of still kind of weird still, I'm still not all the way better yet. I'm doing a lot better though. I'm definitely getting there. My cognitive functions are basically at a normal smart person level right now. There's not enough stimulus... where are the crowds, you know what I mean? I guess I could move to the city but... it doesn't matter anyways. Alright let's see, Peekabooh? Yuhh.

It's just, it's literally impossible. It's impossible. They're the finest girls in existence. Ok here I go, take it on the other side(😫).
Ok, one more Red Velvet, and then we'll do another by Nature. Tada. And for the record yes I realize that I am fully insane but I'm harmless and, really just, phenomenal at Charafrumbian Thought Plasmating you know what I mean? Let's get it now.
I don't care what anybody says you guys: I'm marrying all of the kpop girls. Noone can stop me. You're gonna have to throw me in the thickest mental institution in the whole nebula, man, because, let's face it; when it comes to things I wouldn't do for kpop girls, there isn't a whole lot. Kpop girls are pretty much the only reason any of us exist, anyways. It's so we can worship kpop girls for all time. It's plain as day you guys. Oh My gosh they look incredible in wildside. Just if people want to. But anyways, let's do seulgi now. Yuhhhhhh this one was just reading names of songs off the side of the page on a YouTube video. Damn this one is way cooler than I remember, haha yo that's so chill.. alright yo, Joy3. Man, Joy's so awesome. I could write about her.
She stands alone; a tower in the east: fallen rain holds back it's light, towards her fallen brow had the seasons Lent their light, for time itself stood still in her presence. She was the corruption of grace, the essence of darkness. She was the highest light, the most level head. Fallen snow on the mountaintops could've never prepared, how could any.. it is in a time, that she is; for wherever she is, all will follow, and wherever I fear to tread, she will be, because she is the dew, she is the snow, she is the eye which brings light: for all of time has stood still in the darkness of her fallen state. Amen.
Fuck yeah dude that was metal sorry, swearing, oh dang it have I been swearing again you guys, I'm sorry. Alright, Wendy's turnnnn. This one is just, man, me and Wendy go back, you know what I mean? She'll get it...

Oh yo I gotta listen to this, brb.
Or wait, no, because we're all in agreement now, we're all on the same page: I'm just Tanner. Got it, hearing you loud and clear, fellow human beings. I am a human being, as my body is a human body, therefore, I am, in fact: a human being. Yo sneakers?? UMMM... I'm thinking freaking sneakers you guys. https://youtu.be/Hbb5GPxXF1w

Hawahawahnggg, man, that one slaps so hard. It hits it where it's going, it's like, mm, dang it's just so good. This next one is pretty sick too. Choa, she was one of AOAs main vocalists before they imploded on themselves. Another vibe https://youtu.be/G9zL-A78oRg. And if you have a problem with anything in this one, I can show you a better one if you'd like. It's absolutely the most terrifying thing I think I've ever seen. Dude showed it to me that came over. Not even gonna say, because I don't want you hearing about it from me. If you've seen it maybe you know, I dunno, I'd never seen anything like it. Completely disgusting. So guess that's a point for him.
Ah man, that song's so nice. Some parts of the video are kind of freaky I think... like the floating dolls and stuff... oiji boards or whatever have never bothered me for other people... they creep me out tho dude, bet your ass I'm not trying it lol I don't wanna know dude, keep it on your own screen you know what I mean? Play your own hand, nerd. Like I need some dumb spirit messing with my head. Anyways, what's next. Yo fx is so good you guys. https://youtu.be/4j7Umwfx60Q.
Alright you guys, one more, it's crazy late; I'm sorry about all this, I know this is a super strange post: you can just not do anything about it. It doesn't matter. I'm just chilling anyways. Are you guys chill? https://youtu.be/px2Q47O0_eE
Well you guys, that's a wrap, thanks for coming out, if you did come out, we had a great show, had a great time with you all here. I hope you enjoyed. Goodnight. Or morning. Sweet dreams. Or have a good day. If I had a dog I'd be the best owner. That's actually not true, that's why I don't have a dog. People aren't dogs. You get it. Nite. Luh u bbs. 😘😘 🤙🤙

Verhuny

Don't make any sudden movements.
One of the most prominent sweet treats you're likely to see on your road trip across Ukraine is Verhuny. They are not just a part of the pantheon of Ukrainian desserts - in fact, they are a member of a veritable club of "fried dough cookie/pastry kinds of things" commonly referred to internationally as angel wings, a dish that is itself a notable member of the grander European family of cuisine. Ukraine's version also its own unique details.
Verhuny are fried dough pastries that have often been kissed by just a little alcohol - like Horilka. While I don't believe I've ever heard of them being made with yeasted dough, they were/are often traditionally made with cultured dairy products like sour cream or Kefir (I included a Kefir-based recipe below). If you're a civilized person that is an enjoyer of fried dough confections, Verhuny will introduce itself as an old familiar friend.
Okay, don't make eye contact. Just keep walking.
Verhuny come in many shapes and sizes depending on the mood or inclinations of the chef. Its name likely comes from an old word that means to weave. It's also worth mentioning that it is not uncommon in Ukraine for this same type of cookie to be referred to as Khrustyky (which roughly means crunchy things), which is also what they are referred to as in Poland from what I gather. A Verhun by any other name would indeed taste as sweet.
These are very old desserts - in fact, there's a whole museum called the Living Museum of Verhuny that is dedicated to this cookie in Poltava region! Here are some pics of their sweet activities:
The museum holding an event. This woman looks just like my Aunt Marusya. Photo: ЖИВИЙ МУЗЕЙ Вергунів on Facebook.
There was a flour accident. Photo: ЖИВИЙ МУЗЕЙ Вергунів on Facebook.
This is how Ukrainians feel about Verhuny. Photo: ЖИВИЙ МУЗЕЙ Вергунів on Facebook.
Verhuny are super easy to make at home. Made at home is best!
I would like to hold a little poll in the comments because you may have noticed I am being coy and non-committal about using the terms cookie vs. pastry in regards to Verhuny. Please leave a comment dissertation on which terms best fits this delicacy.

How to Make Verhuny

Photo: Klopotenko.com
Recipe from Ievgen Klopotenko!
Ingredients
  • 400 g All Purpose Flour (+ for dusting the working surface)
  • 250 g Kefir (preferably 2.5%)
  • 100 g Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • ½ tsp. Baking Powder
  • 500 ml of Sunflower oil for deep frying
  • 50 g of powdered Sugar (for dusting the Verhuny)
Recipe
Step 1: In a deep bowl combine flour, baking powder, and sugar.
Step 2: Beat 1 egg and add it to the flour fix. Add Kefir. Mix with a spoon.
Step 3: Dust the work surface with flour and knead the dough until it does not stick to your hands. You can use a kitchen aid with a proper attachment.
Step 4: Make a ball from the dough, wrap in cling film and leave to rest for 20 minutes.
Step 5: Cut off a section of a dough and roll it out into a round shape about 3 - 4mm thick (0.1-0.15 of an inch).
Step 6: Cut strips about 6cm (2.5 inches) wide and cut them into rhombuses 9-10cm long (little under 4 inches).
Step 6.
Step 7: Make a 4cm (~1.5 inch) slit in the middle of each and pull one edge through the that slit in the middle you just made.
Step 7.
Step 8: Heat a pan, or a deep fryer with 500 ml of sunflower oil. Fry the dough on both sides, turning with a slotted spoon until a brown crust appears.
Step 9: Put the finished Verhuny on a plate covered with a paper towel to absorb excess oil. When they cool down, sprinkle 50 g of powdered sugar and serve.
Step Eat.

Fascinating Birds in Iceland Other Than Puffins (Long Post!)
Seeing the Atlantic Puffin is at the top the list for most summer tourists to Iceland. But while you’re there, take the opportunity to see some other amazing birds that you might never see in your home country. I’ve tried to focus on birds that you will see incidentally on the average spring-summer Ring Road trip without having to specifically seek them out, especially if Puffin habitats are already on your itinerary.
I’m by no means an expert, and would love to hear of any other favorites, facts, and birding tips I didn’t mention here -- and let me know if I got anything wrong.

Richard Bartz, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Eurasian Oystercatcher / Tjaldur
Fun facts: Oystercatchers probe in the mud for shellfish and use their long flat bill to pry them open. They protect their nests similar to fellow shorebirds Killdeer by faking a broken wing to lure predators away.
Look for: Long orange bill, red eyes, dark pink legs, black top half and white lower half
Listen for: squeaky dog toy sound
Where to see them: beaches, mudflats, fields

Andreas Trepte, CC BY-SA 2.5, via Wikimedia Commons
Whimbrel / Spói
Fun facts: The whimbrels of Iceland migrate from West Africa. We saw whimbrel chicks darting everywhere at a place we stayed near Selfoss. I’m having trouble finding confirmation of this now but I heard them referred to as “the sound of summer” in Iceland. Their song is everywhere and evokes the sound of a teakettle or oatmeal boiling.
Look for: Long beak that curves downward, brown and white feathers, dark stripe on top of head, dark eyeline.
Listen for: Rising whistle transitioning to a sustained trill
Where to see them: fields, mud flats, shorelines, flying and sitting on roofs and pilings

R. Altenkamp, Berlin, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Raven / Hrafn
Fun facts: Ravens mate for life. They have a long history in Icelandic folklore and appear in the sagas. They live year-round in Iceland.
Look for: Big black bird with a thick black bill
Listen for: Deep croaky caw
Where to see them: Everywhere

Ekaterina Chernetsova (Papchinskaya) from Saint-Petersburg, Russia, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Arctic Tern / Kría
Fun facts: Arctic terns migrate incredible distances annually, all the way to and from from Antarctica. They live in colonies and will dive-bomb you if you approach their nests on the ground. Their chicks often wander onto the roads in Iceland and tern roadkill is an unfortunately common sight, so drive slowly and carefully when you see a colony inland.
Look for: Black on top of the head to below the eye and back of the neck, pale gray body, red beak and short red legs.
Listen for: Shrill squeaky squawks
Where to see them: Shorelines, beaches, open areas near water inland

A male eider duck at Great Car by Walter Baxter, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Female Common Eider, Ken Billington, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Common Eider / Æður
Fun facts: Eider ducks are the cashmere of ducks! Several farms in Iceland harvest the down that the ducks use to line their nests. It is an extremely labor intensive process which is reflected in the high cost of the heirloom pillows and duvets made of Eider Down.
Look for: Long sloping bill. Females are reddish-brown with black barring and males have very slick black-and-white colorblocking.
Listen for: Males make a very human sounding “woo”, and instant mood-lifter that sounds like they just heard some juicy gossip or have been presented with a delicious piece of cake. Females have a purring quack.
Where to see them: Shorelines along fjords, lakes, and lagoons

Åsa Berndtsson, CC BY 2.0 , via Wikimedia Commons
Golden Plover / Lóa
Fun facts: Famous harbinger of spring in Iceland. Their arrival (usually in March) makes the news every year.
Look for: Black belly, S-shaped white band, tweedy gold-black-white on top - Looks like they are wearing a fur cloak.
Where to see them: Heathlands, fields, lawns - even in Reykjavik.

Ómar Runólfsson, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Gyrfalcon / Fálki
Fun facts: Iceland’s national animal and national bird. You will not find Gyrfalcons listed on eBird as their eggs are vulnerable to theft for the falcon trade. If you see a Gyrfalcon, please don’t mention the precise location on the internet, and take steps to delete location data from any photos you post.
Look for: vulture-sized, dark gray-and-white to brown-and-white spotted bird of prey
Where to see them: Lake Myvatn and Northeast, Westfjords

Common Murre, Ron Knight from Seaford, East Sussex, United Kingdom, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Thick-Billed Murre, Greg Thomson/USFWS, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

Razorbill, Chme82, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Black Guillemot, Brette Soucie of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Northeast Region, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Common Murre / Langvía
Thick-billed Murre aka Brünnichs Guillemot / Stuttnefja
Razorbill / Álka
Black Guillemot / Teista
Fun facts: You can’t see the extinct Great Auk other than its commemorative statue on the Reykjanes Peninsula, but you can see these four close relatives of both the Great Auk and the Atlantic Puffin. I couldn’t pick just one!
Look for: Flying, black-and-white, penguin-like seabirds.
Common Murres: all-black heads and some have a thin white line around the eye resembling spectacles
Thick-billed Murres: white on bottom, including neck; black on top
Razorbills: bills are similar to Puffin bills in shape
Black Guillemots: striking red mouths and legs were apparently not an inspiration for Louboutin Heels, but who’s to say?
Listen for: Honking squawks except for Black Guillemots which emit a high pitched squeak
Where to see them: Sea cliffs, rocky shorelines

Jan Frode Haugseth, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Rock Ptarmigan / Rjúpa
Fun facts: These are the favorite meal of Gyrfalcons and are also popular game birds for humans. They are found all over the arctic.
Look for: In summer, breeding males are brown above with a red eyebrow, with a white belly and feathery legs. The breeding female looks similar but with more variegated/stripey browns and blacks. In winter, they are both white all over. (The male in the photo is between the winter and summer plumage).
Listen for: Ominous croaking
Where to see them: Dry, rocky areas

Hobbyfotowiki, public domain, via Wikimedia Commons
White Wagtail / Maríuerla
Fun facts: Since Iceland doesn’t have many trees, so it doesn’t have many tree-dwelling passerines (perching birds), either. One of the more distinctive ones is the White Wagtail, which is also common around Europe and Asia.
Look for: Small gray and white songbird with a black cap and bib, constantly bobbing its tail.
Listen for: Warbling tweets
Where to see them: All over

Bonus Birding Info!
Recommended tools:
  • Merlin Bird ID. This is a free mobile app. When you download it, you’ll be prompted to create an account and download your local bird pack. You may want to download the bird pack for Iceland before your trip. This is an amazing app that allows you to ID birds by entering its characteristics, recording the song around you, or snapping a photo.
  • eBird. Like Merlin, this app is from Cornell Lab of Ornithology and has revolutionized birding. It generates checklists based on your location. For beginner use, the most useful feature is the Explore tab that shows you birding hotspots around you and what people have seen there recently. The search function also allows you to search by bird and it will show you where it’s been spotted in recent days (except for threatened and sensitive species, like the Gyrfalcon).
  • Binoculars. You can get very good entry level binoculars for birding for less than $200 US. If they won’t be useful to you long-term, you can always sell them later. Binoculars are also available from camping equipment rental shops.

Thornton Quarry
Today might have been the best field trip I’ve ever taken: a trip into the Thornton Quarry, the second-largest quarry in the world. Second photo shows the oldest part of the coral reef, third with the lake is the deepest part of the quarry over 400ft below the entrance, and fifth with that little green bridge is I-89/294! End photos include the overlook view, and the last photo is one of the fossils we were allowed to dig through at the end.

I wanted Regal Tips - Bullseye Shellac for the win!
I tried the suggestion from a user on here to use Zinsser Bullseye Shellac to get the Regal Tip varnish feel. I tried it and I'm super happy with the results. I painted a pair of Vic Firth's with two coats of Bullseye shellac. Here is a photo of the original (center) with the coated (right) and uncoated (left). Two coats, wait an hour or two between coats. Sanding was not needed. I hung them up to dry with a piece of wire wrapped around the tip. I've used Regal Tips for 50 years so it's great to get that non- slip feel back.

2023.06.03 15:20 Jakimcikas First time japan travel report 04.25-05.17

Alrighty, I'll describe my first time travel in japan, what went well, what didn't go well, my overall impression of Japan. We travelled trough quite a few cities, but I'll try to keep it as short as possible as I'm not much of writer. And we've visited quite a few places, so if you'd like more details, comment and I'll go more in-depth :).
A bit about the travelling party. Me(25M) and a work colleague(26M), Lithuanians(Europe) software engineers, reasonably fit and somewhat fluent in english, Omnivores(my colleague is allergic to cheese), our height is around ±185cm.

TL;DR

Cities/islands visited

Tokyo(Shinjuku) -> Osaka -> Nara -> Kyoto -> Onomichi Islands -> Matsuyama -> Hiroshima -> Miyajima -> Kumamoto -> Aso(region) -> Fukuoka -> Nagasaki -> Nagoya -> Takayama -> Magome -> Matsumoto - > Tokyo(Chuo) -> Tokyo(Shibuya) -> Tokyo(Teito) -> Hakone.

Expenses

I was slightly more conservative with my spending so my expenses are on the cheaper side, my colleague spent quite a bit more, especially on food and booze.
Total amount spent: slightly more than 3k euros in japan + 1.1k euros flights back and forth.
EDIT: Daily food expenses: 30-40 eur or 5k-7k yen.
Daily food expenses: 3k-4k Daily travel fares(bus, metro), museums and other activities: 1k-3k
Average hotel stay: ~60euro
Food: - Breakfast - usually something from a convenience store. Chicken, power gels, chocolate, melon bread(my favourite), - Lunch - something from a convenience store or a restaurant - Dinner - restaurant usually a ramen place

Activities

Museums, castles, shrines, forests, mountains, walks around the city. We did a lot of walking, total around 400km of walking(at leasts that's what google fit shows)
Alright that's a brief summary, now for the more in-depth write up.

My key takeaways

This is it for the TL;DR part. I'll go more in-depth for the rest of the post.

Planning for the trip

We started planning the trip, where we'll go, where we'll stay, what we'll do, expenses, trains, all that you can plan was started to be planned around a month prior to the trip. We created a word doc as our itinerary, that was around 60 pages long. From what I've read on this page about you can't plan everything. Well I believe we did, we might've even over planned :D.
So we booked the following hotels: - Tokyo - Apa Hotel Higashi Shinjuku Kabukicho Tower(04.25-04.26) - Osaka - APA Hotel Namba Kita Shinsaibashi Ekimae(04.26-04.30) - Onomichi island - TOMARIGI Hostel(04.30-05.01) - Matsuyama - Hotel Patio Dogo(05.01-05.02) - Hiroshima - Wholeearth Ryokan Hiroshima(05.02-05.04) - Kumamoto - Hotel Wing International Select Kumamoto(05.04-05.08) - Nagoya - Sotetsu Fresa Inn Nagoya Shinkansenguchi(05.08-05.10) - Magoame - Magomechaya(05.10-05.11) - Matsumoto - Hotel M Matsumoto(05.11-05.12) - Tokyo - APA Hotel Ginza Kyobashi Tokyo Station Yaesu South Gate(05.14-05.17)
Extra things we bought in advance: - Water proof bags - Hiking boots and socks - Bigger backpacks - JP Rail pass, we booked the trains in advance, but honestly that wasn't necessary even during golden week - Bandages for foot blisters, medicine(for headaches, motion sickness, diarrhoea). - Ubigi eSim internet(10GB was plenty for me throughout the trip) - Sun screen(did not use and got sunburned to a point where I was shinning red) - Portable battery

The trip

Day 1(04.25)

We arrived at the Haneda aiport, exchanged some cash to yen(was at a better course than locally), printed out our JR passes(IMPORTANT TO DO SO HERE, only major stations let you print it out) and went to the metro. We took the train to Shinjuku, and walked to our hotel to check-in. We were quite tired, bought some chicken from lawson and went to explore a few places, a few drinks in golden gai district and ramen in a nearby place. Eventually we ended up at rock bar mother. Really cool place, for each drink you can request 2 songs to be played. After that back to hotel, visit the top floor onsen and sleep

Day 2(04.26)

Got up early, travelled to osaka. Left our luggage in the hotel, we were too early for a check in. We went to see Osaka castle(quite beautiful), tried takoyaki there. More city exploring, then we went check-in. After that we went to see the Umeda Sky Building in the evening(we bought the ticket in advance) very beautiful, it was very clear and beautiful. Got back to the city, got some ramen, went to the hotel and sleep.

Day 3(04.27)

Went to USJ, bought tickets(basic, no express stuff) in advance. We went there 30minutes before opening, and there was already a huge line. We went to Nintendo first, the zone looked very nice, but ride it'd say was okay'ish for me. After that the dinosaur rides, minion land, grabbed chinese food for lunch, went to the harry potter zone, at this point the lines got quite long around 1h to 1h 30min of wait time. After that we went to see Water world where they were doing a play, was really awesome, I'd say a must see even if you don't understand Japanese, the acting is very good. After that we went to Osaka aquarium(no lines, thank god), it was beautiful, cute chonks and other sea creatures.

Day 4(04.28)

Trip to Kyoto from Osaka. We went early by metro, to see the bamboo forest(7:40'ish), beautiful, few people. Walked around the park then climbed the mount a fed the monkeys(50 yen for a bag of fruits or nuts), very cute, tried petting the hand of one, didn't go well got an aggressive show of teeth. After that we visited Ryoanji temple, went to nishi market, we we're running a bit late so we took a taxi to Kiyomizudera, we saw the geish district on our way to there, looked interesting. After the temple we went to a bar and got back to Osaka and then after a bowl of ramen to our hotel.

Day 5(04.29)

We went to Nara, took this hiking track saw the deer, bought some food, did the whole bow thing then fed them. One thing to keep in mind is to crumble the cookie and give it in small pieces, otherwise you'll run out of food to give quickly. They might be very "assertive" and try to take it from you, don't be afraid, just stick your empty arm out to get some distance and that's it . They're not gonna bite you. After that we went to see the Todaiji temple, it was beautiful, the buddha statue was huge. Got back to Osaka, got some ramen, went to the hotel, scheduled to send our luggage to our next hotel and went to sleep.

Day 6(04.30)

Got up early, went to Onomichi, rented some bikes and began our cycling journey through the islands. A lot of cool bridges, very beautiful nature. We cycled to north Omishima port, where we transfered to rabbit island pet and fed the rabbits, got back and cycled to our ryokan and straight to sleeping.

Day 7(05.01)

More cycling, more cool bridges, more beautiful nature. We arrived at Imabari, returned our bikes and took the train to Matsuyama. We ate some stree food, relaxed in the open hot springs for feet. Walked around and went to sleep. To be honest I'd say this was the favorite city of the whole trip for me. I liked the vibe, the people, the food, the nature, the onsen, the layout, the architecture. In general, beautiful city.

Day 8(05.02)

Early in the morning visited a public onsen nearby, then went to see the Matsuyama castle, it was beautiful, tried the orange juice there, it was really good, got back to our hotels, got some dango. Packed our stuff, got a taxi and went to the port and took the ferry to Hiroshima. Checked in the ryokan. Took a train to Hiroshima city center, visited the castle and then the nuclear museum. Get the english audio for best experience. It took me around 2hours to walk through everything, read it and take it in. It was very nerve racking, but I'd say a must see. After that we went out to eat some Okonomiyaki, it was delicious, then back to the ryokan and sleep.

Day 9(05.03)

Went to Miyajima island first by train then transfer by ferry. It was very beautiful, the mountain hike was also fun, the view on top was amazing. When we came down from the mountain there was a low tide, so we could go near the Itsukushima shrine. Got back to Hiroshima, went to the city center for a couple of beers, got back to Ryokan and went to sleep.

Day 10(05.04)

First day of the Golden week, wouldn't say that I've noticed anything different, maybe because we were travelling to the far south of Japan - Kumamoto. This is one of those cities that I also enjoyed more than the big common ones, it looked very nice, had a beautiful castle, was not crowded as Hiroshima, Osaka or Tokyo. We rented out bikes, cycled to Honmoji park(the place near Honmoji park is god damn maze, keep you google maps always open or you will get lost) found a place to eat, visited Lafcadio Hearn House and went to our hotel and then to sleep.

Day 11(05.05)

We rentend a car and went to Aso, highly recommend renting a car here, since the public transport is not that good. The drive was very nice, we went to see active volcano crater, luckily it was not erupting, so we were allowed to get close. Then we went around and climbed the other inactive mountain caps. Climbing that was one of the most fun hikes I've had. It was very windy, you could barely see past 5 meters anywhere, because of the fog. There was no smell of sulfur, so it was safe. We visited Mt. Nakadake, Mt. Takadake, overall the place looked like Mordor, the vibes, the weather everything. After that we visited Ayugaeno Falls, the ravines and everything was just majectic. After that we got back to Kumamoto, gave back the car and went somewhere to eat. Car rental cost around ~7k yen in total. So I'd say a good price. After eating, we went to our hotel and then to sleep.

Day 12(05.06)

We went to Fukuoka, by train, walked around the city, visited Tochoji temple, Fukuoka castle ruins, Ohori park and explored the huge ravine type shopping mall. Went to the science museum(big mistake, it's for kids...). After that we tried Ichiran ramen(originated in Fukuoka so we thought it be better). Was the same as everywhere else. It was rainy so we got back pretty early to our hotel and went to sleep.

Day 13(05.07)

We went to Nagasaki, by train, visited the atomic bomb museum, it was very interesting, just as good as the one in Hiroshima. We took a boat ride to see Gunkanjima, though we couldn't get on the island, because of the weather, it was still very interesting to see and hear the history of the island. Explored the Dutch district, walked around the shops, tried some whale meat. It was raining the whole day, so we also got back quite early and went to sleep.

Day 14(05.08)

We got up early and went got straight to the train station, and caught the train to Nagoya. The longest train ride by far. We arrived at Nagoya, checked in our hotel, went to the city center, visited the castle, it was very beautiful, then we wanted to explore the abandoned tunnel near Aichi. Apparently it was closed, we decided we're going to enter through the exit, like rascals, but apparently after we circled around there was a police officer that was guarding traffic through the bridge and wouldn't let us through. So our trip ended there. After comming back to Nagoya we visited the sky scrapper, it had interesting installations on the windows. We had our stay got back to hotel and went to sleep.

Day 15(05.09)

We went to Takayama, by train, one of the most scenic train rides so far. We strolled around the city center, visited the early morning market, bought some souvenirs, tried some white strawberries, mushroom tee and other local cuisine. Visited Takayama Showa Museum, which was 10/10. You could touch almost everything, the museum gave a great vibe, it was like you were in a house of a family that lived there. There was also an old nintendo with mario kart that you could play, put on a old yukata and take photos. Play pachinko(no money needed), watch an old-school movie. We visited a few sake tasting places, I've found a few flavours that I liked. After that back to Nagoya, eat ramen and sleep.

Day 16(05.10)

We sent out our luggage to Matsumoto, caught a train to Nagiso and then hiked the Nakasendo trail to Tsumago and then Magome where we checked in and stayed at the local ryokan. The hike was very nice and relaxing one of the easier hikes I've had, the places we saw we're quite old and beautiful. At ryokan we met people one American and one from Germany, they had a guitar so we chatted a bit, played the guitar and had a few beers. The dinner at ryokan was amazing, looked very traditional Japanese dinner. Was also very tasty, would definitely recommend this place. After that we went to sleep.

Day 17-19(05.11)

Got up early and took a bus to Nakatsugawa Eki-mae station where we travelled to Matsumoto. We left our bags and went to the RubyKaigi conference. Overall good conference, I've learned somethings, but most importantly I've had bit of time to rest and catch up on some sleep, since we weren't exploring new cities. So overall the following 3 days were wake up -> breakfast -> conference -> lunch -> conference -> drinks -> dinner -> sleep.

Day 20(05.14)

Slept in, had breakfast and travelled to Tokyo by train. Left our luggage at the hotel and moved on to explore the Chou region. Walked around the Ginza, Imperial palace, Yasukuni shrine and went to check in. After that it was getting dark, so travelled to Akihabara to experience the anime night life, was quite bright and interesting. Though the amount of requests to visit a maid cafe was too damn high. If your planning to buy a PS5, a new GPU or Nintendo switch, this could be the place, I saw PS5 with two controllers for 60k yen, with a 10% tax refund that is around 370 euros. After some exploration, got back to our hotel and went to sleep.

Day 21(05.15)

This was our Hakone day trip, we bought the 3 day pass for it, so we could use the train, bus, ropeway and boat. Was worth it, even for one day. We climbed Mt. Kintoki, thankfully the weather was great and we could see Fuji. The climb was very nice, the view was amazing, the weather was great, no bears to be seen. After climbing down, we played some golf that was near there. Travelled back to the station were we used the rope-way to get around the mountains, the view was just majestic, we saw the sulfur pits, the stench was, well strong to say the least, but overall enjoyed the experience. We didn't make it time to the boat, so we had to travel back by bus, which wasn't so bad, since the scenery was amazing.

Day 22(05.16)

Explored more Tokyo, so we went to Teito district, went to the Ueno zoo, National science museum. After that we went to Kaminarimon gate, Asakusa shrine and moved to Shibuya next. There we went to the Yoyogi park, Meiji Jingu shrine, paid our respects to Hachiko statue. The last activity was to visit TeamLabs Planets, which were amazing, one most interesting experiences, not gonna spoil any details, overall great experience, would do it again. As it was getting late we got back to Shibuya, walked around more, had a drink and went back to our hotel.

Day 23(05.17)

Last day in Japan was spent buying souvenirs, snacks and other stuff to bring back home. Packing our luggage, to accommodate for the extras, getting to Haneda airport and back to Lithuania.
I'm very happy I had the opportunity to go on such a trip, I enjoyed it a lot even though, I'm quite the couch potato so 3 weeks is a bit much for me, but nonetheless, wouldn't change a thing.
