I’ve been collecting the Bing Word of the Day for an entire year now!

2023.05.28 22:05 Dyl8Reddit I’ve been collecting the Bing Word of the Day for an entire year now!

On the day that I posted this, 5-28-2023, it would have been an entire year since I started collecting the daily word that Bing offers every day. For those of you don’t know, if you search for “Word of the day” on Bing, you will find a unique vocabulary word that is specific to each day. That’s what I’ve been documenting for the past year.
I started collecting the words back on May 29, 2022. I kept them in a plain text document that I named word-of-the-day.txt. This document was going to store my words in a specific format, which you will see below. I appended to this document every day in the summer using Windows Notepad, until I eventually moved the document to my Google Drive. This allowed me to hook up multiple automations to it, like a Siri Shortcut that would get the latest word and allow me to append it. Once April of 2023 (or even earlier) came around, I decided to change to only updating it every 6 days since my life was getting a bit busier then. And when I wasn’t automating, I would manually add the daily word as part of my MicrosoftRewards routine (sometimes, but only when I had the extra time for it)
Doing this isn’t as easy as going back to add all 365 words right before I published this. That is because there is a limit to how far back one can go in the daily words — after 7 days a word disappears from the end of the list and is lost forever. This meant that I had to stay on top of the word list, which I did do pretty consistently until I missed on day on June 30th. But that’s ok, as we all make mistakes.
While I was keeping track of the words that Bing offered every day, I learned some interesting things. Discovering a new word every day slowly strengthened my vocabulary to be more eclectic. I used these words in various things like stories, or just to confuse people that had never heard of the words. And with more words, what started as a hobby to collect the words became a project to archive the WOTD for an entire year.
A lot can happen in a single year. When I started, I didn't even have a Reddit account, and it was late May around the time where everyone gets out of school that I started making the list. Now it’s the end of another school year. I am completely different person.
So with that context and reflection, I would say that it is about time to show you the list that I’ve been collecting:*

The Best Guide on How to Feel Confident in a New School and Appeal to Others
Throughout everybody’s life, there are situations where they need to adapt to new social circles. The transfer process often comes with anxiety and unexpected challenges. Unfortunately, low self-esteem sometimes makes it harder to leave the comfort zone successfully. That is why learning to feel good even under such circumstances is beneficial!
How to Boost Self-Confidence in a New School
Without a doubt, moving on to new work or study places requires both mental and physical preparation. Whether you are an adult who changes occupation or a student enrolling in a school or a college, building confidence is necessary. Usually, high self-esteem allows people to build positive relationships with peers. Moreover, recent studies have shown that confident students demonstrate better academic results.
Several factors can stand in the way between a new student and their integration into the group:
  • Low self-esteem
  • Derogatory self-talk
  • Negative past experiences
  • Lack of the communication skill
Sometimes, a person cannot stop overthinking pessimistic scenarios with low chances of coming to life. So how to be confident in school? Don’t worry about it anymore! Our experts from the write papers for me service have gathered the best tips. With these helpful instructions, anyone can gain confidence in a school or a college.
Things to Focus on Before High School

Feeling that your confidence is high, even among new students, means that you have prepared for the fresh life chapter. Suppose you think that learning to gain courage takes years. Breathe out. Many easy confidence tricks help you develop a strong backbone quickly. But, in the long run, the skill comes with constant practice.
For this reason, our custom research papers service has collected the tips you may employ daily. If you are interested in becoming a confident person, here are the most important things to know before high school.
Prepare for Possible Challenges
Are you stressing over the beginning of the school year? Take a deep breath and focus on the preparations instead of pointless worrying. Indeed, planning is perfect for building confidence in students before school and college classes. A confident student knows that they have everything necessary for their studies. Some people ask their parents for advice, while others search online for tips. Your preparation plan should include:
Finding info on education in the school or college
Indeed, you have to know the specifics of the new place. Try rummaging through their website or talking to people who went there. This way, you can learn whether their classes and extracurricular activities fit you.
Preparing stationary and clothes
Do you want to wear your favorite outfit on the first day? Before that, study the school’s dress code policy. Maybe, they require purchasing their uniform or wearing only specific colors. After that, ensure you have all the stationary needed for your studies, like books, pens, and art supplies.
Getting acquainted with the area
If a person enrolls in a new place, most likely, they recently moved to this area. To avoid confusion, learn the right direction to the college or school. If possible, find out the location of every classroom. Remember, a prepared student is a confident student!
Meet New Friends in Your Study Group
Besides the standard high school tips and tricks for academic success, new school and college students must develop soft skills. In other words, improve your communication ability to gain new friends. You’d be surprised if you knew how many benefits a positive mindset brings to you. A positive attitude is characteristic of confident people, and it helps them form a good first impression.
Write how you want to introduce yourself to potential friends, just in case. Approach people without hesitation and show a genuine desire to communicate. Besides, asking for their social media profiles raises the chances of your success.
Work on Self-Esteem to Be More Open
You probably know that people are either extroverted or introverted. So how to be more confident in school if you are naturally a quiet person? Don’t worry, because any person can achieve success and present themselves as a confident person in the new school. Remember the following statements:
  1. Everybody makes mistakes in communication, so take it easy
  2. Giving yourself a pep talk before entering the classroom helps to build confidence
  3. Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations
On top of everything, your new school or college friends try to talk to you, not to test you. So act warm and welcoming to form a good first impression.
Practise Online Communication
If you think you can only build confidence in the classroom, mind that going online is a great method too. Additionally, it allows students with social anxiety to come prepared and boost self-confidence before going to college or school. Learn tips from our service to become interesting:
  1. Join the chats to participate in important class discussions online
  2. Talk to your new friends online to feel confident in the classroom in future
  3. Always remind yourself that networking is as crucial for your future as education
Overall, once you master online communication, real-life conversations can seem easier. So train your self-confidence using your favorite gadgets!
Participate in School Life
Education is much more than answering questions in class and doing homework. When you do adequate research, you might stumble upon the new school's versatile activities. One of the options for spending leisure time is a school club. If you are an open-minded student, you can be interested in the most unusual hobbies, from cryptocurrency to pottery. Luckily, modern educational institutions have options for everybody! Here are several tips for choosing the after-class activities:
  1. Choose a club depending on your interests, not because it is popular
  2. Gain skills that can assist you in your future life, especially in college
  3. Continue to visit a club even if it feels challenging and you make mistakes
  4. Instead of joining too many clubs, boost a couple of skills
In general, remind yourself that all after-class studies are for your joy and entertainment. Besides, such activities give students extra self-assurance.
Develop Your Academic Skills
Although entertainment and socializing are exciting, becoming a good student involves additional challenges. The whole point of school is studying everything from writing Heart of Darkness summary or a process paper to mathematical equations. To be confident in your knowledge during any test, seek advice for high school students:
  1. Be consistent with your homework to avoid academic debts
  2. Be confident in your skills despite making mistakes
  3. Keep your head clear by having enough rest
  4. Avoid being late to class
  5. Try to answer teachers’ questions every lesson
Remember that you must write a statement of purpose for graduate school before becoming a college student. In other words, you should know each subject well enough to choose a preferred degree. One of the most common student mistakes is jeopardizing future success by being an irresponsible student. So let your mind lead you away from making impulsive decisions.
How to Become an Interesting Person?
One of the unattainable characteristics of a confident student is that they make others interested in them. When people sense an unusual personality, they naturally gravitate towards the newbie. What is the secret of success, then? Somebody might think that only legends like actors or astronauts can interest and lead people around them. But, this statement is wrong.
In reality, anyone has a chance of becoming an interesting person, regardless of their background. You are a blank sheet of paper for people in your new school and class. Hence, it depends on your effort whether your classmates can find you engaging. Let’s talk about useful tips and tricks for becoming more interesting!

Become Interested, Tolerant, and Funny
Surprisingly, the most reliable method of becoming an interesting individual is to become curious about the surrounding world and people. In this case, a new school is the perfect source of fascinating acquaintances. Boost your confidence and come up to other people in the class to have a chat. For instance, ask them about:
  • Favorite subjects and hobbies
  • The preferred places to spend time in town
  • Local holidays and school traditions
Generally, students gladly show new people around. Besides that, be as open-minded as possible to the new place and people, although it might be hard initially. With time, every newcomer gains more confidence and becomes more open to fresh experiences.
Finally, boost your sense of humor to spice up every conversation. However, avoid offending anyone with your witty remarks. To make things easier, watch stand-up shows or comedies to borrow jokes.
Ditch Self Doubt and Show the Real You
Whenever you wonder how to be more confident in school, an important recommendation is to be yourself. Yes, it is easier to say than to do. So the first thing on the list is to distinguish the real you. Most of the time, a human’s personality soaks up other people's notions. Therefore, you must rethink your opinions on multiple matters to figure out the real you.
The next stage is to fight the temptation of copying popular kids in the new school. Indeed, mirroring them can boost your confidence temporarily, but merging with other students’ personalities is damaging. Still, you can follow their example partially. Finally, be confident enough to express your thoughts out loud. Then, even though some might disagree with you, you can befriend like-minded people.
Practise New Skills
Have you ever seen how a group of students surrounds somebody who plays guitar or sings in the school hall? Indeed, such a stunt is a piece of cake for a confident student. Granted that you want to win the hearts of your new classmates, ponder over developing a new skill. Listen to the following advice:
  1. Confidence is high when you practice something that inspires you
  2. Pick a unique hobby that nobody else in the class has
  3. Always improve your skills since perfection has no limit
The additional bonus is when you can show off your talents on the school stage or stadium. This way, you are multiplying the chances of gaining new fans from the audience. However, even if you are keen on hiking or maths, you always have an interesting discussion topic.
Gain Knowledge Through Books
Another excellent method to be confident in conversations with people is reading books. Frequently, society associates reading with nerds or homebodies who lack communication skills. Spending time with a good blog or a novel makes a person more eloquent. Mind that a large vocabulary is an underestimated factor that makes someone a good speaker.
To be confident in your literature choice, turn to reliable lists of top books where experts mention high-quality works. Moreover, such books allow people to travel in space in time while sitting in a coach. Hence, you discover something new even with a limited budget.
Be a Good Listener
Among other easy confidence tricks, scientists recommend becoming a good listener. Why does it matter? In brief, people like it when others show compassion and understanding in response to their stories. For sure, listening requires practice and a high level of emotional intelligence. Memorize a few small tips for conversations with other students:
  1. Listen to people without interrupting them
  2. Ask questions to show your curiosity
  3. Replace the word ‘me’ with ‘you’ in conversations
  4. Give advice only if the person asks you for it
The implementation of these tips will draw more people to you naturally.

Share About Your Experiences
The final secret of enjoyable socialization is being able to tell funny stories. It is as good as the last high school tips and tricks because people like newcomers with unusual backgrounds. Tell people funny stories about your friends and family if you have trouble considering an interesting issue. To make things easier, imagine that you are an actor filming a scene:
  1. Try to rehearse your stories
  2. Choose the cases with unexpected twists
  3. Tell about even the awkward situations
That’s it! You’ve just become the star of your class or even school. Now you can socialize without complications and gather a fun group of friends.
Summary
In conclusion, everybody has the potential to become a confident and interesting student in a new place. The proven tips help to succeed even those who doubt themselves at first. Once you learn what other people appreciate in peers, you can master certain traits and win everybody’s hearts!

2023.05.28 22:02 WizKidWord Moonlit Shadows – Chapter 3: Whispers in the Dark

The night weighed heavy on the small town of Derryville, its streets shrouded in a cloak of unease. Whispers of the encounter between Timmy, Charlie, and the creature had spread through the community like wildfire, fueling a sense of paranoia that tainted even the simplest of interactions.
As Timmy and Charlie walked the familiar path to school, they couldn’t help but notice the wary glances from their neighbors. The townspeople spoke in hushed tones, their voices laden with fear and suspicion. Timmy overheard snippets of conversation that sent shivers down his spine, alluding to dark secrets and hidden truths.
His young mind was a sponge, absorbing every detail, every fragment of information that slipped through the cracks. And soon, Timmy realized that there was more to Derryville than met the eye. The whispers in the dark spoke of a town with a haunting past, a place that had long carried the weight of its own sins.
Guided by an insatiable curiosity, Timmy sought answers from anyone willing to share. He approached Mrs. Glick, the town’s oldest resident, her wrinkled face a tapestry of memories. She spoke in hushed tones, her voice laced with a mix of regret and resignation.

“There are things, child, things that lurk in the shadows,” Mrs. Glick whispered, her voice barely audible. “Derryville has always been haunted, a playground for the darkness that resides in every town.”
She went on to recount tales of mysterious disappearances, long-forgotten tragedies, and a pact made in desperation. Timmy listened intently, his eyes widening with each revelation. The town he had believed to be a haven was a fragile façade, masking a history steeped in darkness.
But as Timmy delved deeper into the town’s secrets, he noticed a pattern emerging. The strange occurrences and unexplained phenomena seemed to align with the lunar cycle. Every month, as the full moon cast its eerie glow, the town was gripped by a palpable tension.
Driven by an unrelenting urge to connect the dots, Timmy spent his nights scouring old newspapers, seeking clues that would unlock the town’s secrets. As he pieced together the fragments of history, he discovered a thread that tied the present to a tragedy that had unfolded years ago.
The more Timmy dug, the clearer the picture became. The town had made a deal, a pact with an ancient force that demanded a sacrifice every full moon—a pact that had been kept hidden for generations. The murders that had plagued Derryville were not the work of a madman, but rather the fulfillment of a sinister agreement.

The weight of this revelation settled heavily on Timmy’s shoulders. He knew he had stumbled upon something beyond his wildest nightmares—a truth that threatened to tear apart the delicate tapestry of his town. But he also realized that he couldn’t carry this burden alone. He needed allies, individuals willing to face the horrors that lurked in the shadows alongside him.
Armed with the knowledge he had gleaned, Timmy approached Charlie with the truth he had uncovered. His friend’s initial skepticism melted away as he saw the conviction in Timmy’s eyes. Together, they formed a pact of their own—a pact to confront the darkness that had taken hold of their town.
As whispers continued to echo through Derryville, Timmy and Charlie became beacons of defiance against the encroaching terror. The townspeople, still mired in fear, looked to them with a mix of hope and trepidation. And as the next full moon loomed on the horizon, the stage was set for a battle that would decide the fate of their once-peaceful community.

2023.05.28 21:58 Unable_Principle_124 I've just read A Clash of Kings for the first time and I thought I'd share my thoughts!

(I'm still unsure if I'm using the right flair but I've only read the first two books and I would greatly appreciate no spoilers for the remaining books!)
That is A Clash of Kings done!
Wow!
Another fantastic read! Aaaahhh! I’m loving this story! The drama! The scheming! The politics! The absolute TERROR you face at the beginning of every chapter because anything could happen and if there is one thing I’ve learned so far, good things very rarely happen in this world! And even on the rare occasion something good does happen and you feel safe and happy, BANG! Something worse happens! My stress levels increase tenfold and my short-lived happiness becomes a distant memory! Which is a very new sensation for me. Because, call me crazy, but up until now, I’ve enjoyed stories were nice things could actually happen! Do you remember that concept? Nice things happening? Yeah, the memory is growing faint for me too….
Anyway, my blood pressure is hitting all time records but other than that, I can’t wait to continue this series! I’m sure I’ll be fine...…HAHAHAHAHA……
Now, let’s get into this! The prologue!
We finally meet Stannis Baratheon and wow! George really went out of his way to make him appear as unpleasant and dry as humanly possible! But I think I’ll leave my evaluation of him until I get to Davos. Instead, much like the prologue itself, I think I’ll focus my attentions on Cressen and the pussy-shadow maker herself, Melisandre.
I’m intrigued and terrified of her in equal measures. I think she has to be one of the most dangerously mysterious characters in this book because both her actions and motivations remain largely unknown to the reader, of course, you could say the same for Varys and Littlefinger, but, idk about you, but I find an all powerful zealot much more menacing!
Being a religious fanatic, I knew she wasn’t going to bring anything remotely positive to the picture, so I completely sympathised with Cressen and believed, (and continue to believe) he was justified in his concerns but this is ASOIAF, I knew things weren’t going to run smoothly but it’s incredibly unfortunate the poor man had to lose his life to try to protect the man he raised.
I remember being so disgusted with Stannis in his treatment of Cressen, this man raised you and loved you when apparently nobody else did, and you couldn’t even treat him with common decency! Ooooohhhh boy was I annoyed. Especially because I was so looking forward to finally meeting Roberts formidable brother, thinking this is the Baratheon I could root for and then had such a negative introduction to him! My opinion of him has certainly improved, but my initial impression was decidedly negative. Props again to George! He has a gift for understanding and portraying how subjective a characters perception can be, leaving the reader, to a certain extent, take the information we are given with a pinch of salt.
We also get a glimpse of Dragonstone! I must say, I wasn’t expecting it to be quite so, grim. Of course, the occupants are definitely a factor, looking at you Selyse, but the castle and island itself, it does not sound pleasant. It got me thinking about what Daenerys would think of it? I don’t really see this blending well with the beautiful, flowery aesthetic she is dreaming of. But then again, it’s built on a volcano, being the blood of the dragon and her fondness for heat, this could be the Valyrian equivalent of a cosy little cottage for her, who knows?
Also, that jester, Patchface creeps me the hell out! Why would you allow this crazy person near your child, Stannis??? Didn’t Cressen say he was the sole survivor of the wreck? So they really have no idea who this crazy person was? Yeah, that’s comforting…..
Now, lets get to the characters! Like before, I think I’ll just go in no particular order:
CATELYN: Remember when I said I had high hopes for this motheson team? Yeah, now I am extremely worried about this motheson team! I’m optimistic they will triumph in the long term but, presently, I’m certain more hurdles are going to be thrust in their direction! But, at the same time, what else could possibly go wrong for them at this point? Granted, Robb has won every battle, but everything outside of the battlefield has gone completely pear shaped! It’s extremely unfortunate that they’re doing everything right but that circumstance is getting in the way of their success!
It frustrated me in AGOT and continues to frustrate me in this book, that the Lannisters seem to have an unlimited supply of luck! Seriously! How tf are they succeeding??? Aaaahhhhh! Don’t get me wrong, I love Tyrion, and I continue to root for him, but the rest of this family needs to be taken out, immediately! Uuuuuggghhhh! I’m praying their rapid rise will soon come crashing down! We saw with Daenerys, George likes to strip his characters of everything before building them back up and I believe this is what he is doing with the Starks!
In the case of the Starks, however, it’s believing they’ve lost everything, in regards to Bran and Rickon, at least. But poor Catelyn! Discovering your children have been killed is horrendous enough, but believing their heads have been mounted on your castle walls? I just can’t even comprehend the levels of emotions she must be feeling!
I must say, I was not expecting the way Catelyns storyline played out in this book but I enjoyed it nonetheless! I thought she would become more of a leading figure in Robbs court but she seems to have taken a back seat and I’m very uncomfortable with that. I truly believe Robb will become a great ruler but age is not on his side. He needs the guidance and counsel only a parent can give their child, not that of a subject to their sovereign. There are things a ruler needs to be told that their followers wouldn’t be as forthcoming with as I believe Catelyn would be! Of course, I can understand, from Robbs perspective, asserting his leadership is challenge enough, given his young age, without his mother by his side, so I can understand his reluctance to have Catelyn close to him, but still, it frustrates me!
That reminds me, don’t ask me how, but I forgot to talk about Robb in my first post, it goes without saying, I love him and am rooting for him! But what I wanted to talk about was him being proclaimed King in the North! I’ll admit, it was a powerful, goosebump inducing scene but omg how tf did the Northerners and Rivermen/Riverlanders? think that was a good idea? Talk about adding fuel to the fire! But anyway, I just wanted to mention that before getting back to Catelyn.
I really admired her attempts at forming a truce between the Baratheon brothers, alas, to no avail, but still, good effort! I really don’t understand Renlys thought process though? Seriously, what sort of precedent are you setting here? Do you expect the realm to bleed after the death of every King? Each claimant fighting for their right to rule? He is/was, the embodiment of style over substance. Like Cressen mentions, it’s just a childs game to him and like a child, I don’t imagine him playing too long before growing bored and then Westeros would’ve been left with a Robert 2.0.!
I also have to talk about Brienne of Tarth! What a character! Of course she couldn’t be a badass knight, she had to be accused of murder and treason! She is a kind hearted character after all! Imagine nice things happening for her? If I didn’t laugh, I’d cry! Honestly! But at least her circumstances led her to Catelyn! I am fully on board for this partnership and I look forward to seeing where they go from here.
I should talk about where they left off. They didn’t kill Jaime. I know that because that’s what I would want them to do and since when do I get what I want in this series? But why ask for Briennes sword if not? Didn’t Brienne pick up Renlys sword when they fled the camp? Does this sword have some magical element from Renlys death or something? I’m definitely overthinking it. Most likely it was used to whack him with the handle or something haha.
TYRION: If AGOT was Neds book, ACOK certainly has to be Tyrions. What a journey we’ve had with Tyrion. Beginning as Hand of the King and ending as…..what is he now? Tywin has resumed his position as Hand, is Tyrion going to be shipped back to Casterly Rock? I can’t see that happening. Ooooohhhh, wait, maybe that’s how he could reunite with Catelyn? If he is left with nothing after everything he has done, perhaps this is the tipping point for him to finally abandon this screwed up family and join with the Starks? Perhaps turning the tide in the war? Yeah, now that I’ve written it out, it sounds too convenient for this series but I’m hoping some variation of the above isn’t beyond the realms of possibility?
I was extremely impressed with Tyrion in many ways in this book and extremely disappointed in him in others. Of course, on the politic side of events, he was in his element! Oh those chapters were a beauty to behold! Watching him outmanoeuvre Cersei and putting the little toad Joffrey (screw you) in his place! Beautiful! Puts a smile on my face even thinking about it.
Let’s start with Janos Slyntt, I think that’s how you spell it but I’m not taking the time to check because he deserves no such attention! Ha! Coy Tyrion. Very coy. Although I wish he had just gone on and killed him, rather than burdening the watch with him! But alas, I can’t have my cake and expect to eat it all, now can I? I’ll take the wins when I can!
Then the deception to lure Cerseis informant out in the open. I had no idea who it could’ve been but once it was revealed as Pycelle, I was not at all surprised! I’m guessing Tyrion already knew and used the ploy to confirm his suspicions, seeing as he went ahead with sending Myrcella to Dorne?
I really enjoyed Tyrion and Varys’…..I want to say friendship? But I think partnership would be more fitting, as I don’t think either would blink an eye at turning on each other. It truly was beautiful to read though, their interactions I mean. The dialogue! A constant duel of words, equally matched and equally prodding for weaknesses. Both walking on a continuous line of thin ice but boy did they glid through! Ah, I loved it!
I do agree with Cersei though, and I shudder at that, but Tyrion did rely heavily on Varys. In my first post I think I said Varys could be trustworthy, but now, I don’t think so. He was certainly helpful, but he is playing his own game and so far, I have no idea what that could be, but I feel like Varys is helpful because he wants to be but could very easily switch sides should he ever choose to do so. That said, he is certainly not as ruthless as he must outwardly appear. We’ve seen after all, his efforts to protect Ned, Roberts bastards, etc. So, despite public opinion, he's really quite a softy. Well, maybe not a softy, but has a certain level of humanity, which, imo, classifies as a softy in this world!
Tyrions relationship with Baelish was much more confusing for me. He knows Petyr was behind his arrest and seemingly does nothing? I understand, in uncertain times, maintaining the treasury is an essential service, but I expected more from Tyrion than, “haha, you thought you were getting Harrenhal, you’ll think twice about backstabbing me now!.” It’s even more frustrating that he actually acquired the castle regardless! Again, I must begrudgingly give props to Littlefinger for playing the game flawlessly, but man, is it annoying!
Tyrions relationship with Cersei, aside from the political intrigue, must have been one of the more intriguing aspects of his chapters. Clearly, they’re not close, at all, but there is a certain, idk, its not affection but perhaps there was a certain level of respect between them. I think I must have been as shocked as Tyrion when Cersei hugged him when they received the news of Stannis marching on Storms End. But I was just as shocked when Tyrion poisoned his sister. I legit thought he just killed Cersei for a second. Turns out it was just diarrhoea, lol.
I don’t understand why he antagonised her so much though? I don’t understand why it was necessary for him to kidnap Tommen, unless I missed something? I feel like that was just unnecessarily hostile. Then threaten her with Tommens safety, idk, I just don’t think it was necessary. I felt it would have been more beneficial for him to reassure Cersei rather than threaten her. I get that his authority was being challenged but I can’t help but think he shot himself in the foot with that. I really don’t see their relationship recovering from this. Obviously, they didn’t have much of a bond before, but I feel like, before, there was at least a small glimpse of comradery between them but with this, I think he cut all ties with her and that troubles me. Cersei doesn’t hold back when it comes to her enemies. Especially those who threaten her children!
Don’t get me wrong, I want Tyrion to abandon this family, so I know it sounds hypocritical of me to say he should be nice to his sister but that’s so long as they’re playing on the same team but I really am hoping Tyrion eventually abandons Team Lannister! I’m feeling less sure of this outcome than I did at the end of AGOT but I’m still optimistic it’s going to happen, ideally sooner rather than later!
I should also mention Shae. It’s clear she only wants his gold but for whatever reason, Tyrion has fallen in love with his own made up version of her and I don’t see this relationship ending well, for either of them…..
ARYA: There were three characters I was immensely nervous for, going into this book, Jon, Sansa and Arya. I KNEW Arya wasn’t going to reach the North but I was hoping she would at least reach Riverrun! I knew that was an optimistic belief but I wanted to dream!
On the flip side I was terrified she was going to be captured by the Lannisters. My fears came somewhat true as she was captured, fortunately the Lannisters captured Weasel rather than Arya Stark!
I swear, my heart was in my mouth going into each of her early chapters, as they were travelling up the Kingsroad, each chapter more unnerving than the last because nothing bad had happened but I KNEW that wasn’t going to last! RIP Yoren btw, you smelled sour but your heart was sweet!
Arya was really our eyes on the ground with the ongoing conflict in the Riverlands and boy was it gruesome! George really didn’t hold back with the brutality of war! Her chapters were an interesting study on the morality of the conflict. I understand that it’s the Lannisters sacking and pillaging the Riverlands, but Robb fought fire with fire and I don’t believe his actions caused any less destruction in the Westerlands. The commons suffer, regardless of how honourable the intent may be!
Despite the ordeals she went through, I’m somewhat relieved she got through it relatively unscathed. But can we please sign this girl up for some therapy sessions? Seriously! I’m really starting to worry for Aryas mental health. It is not healthy for a 9/10 year old to have a list of people they wish to kill and repeat it obsessively each night, just saying….
Also, What THE ACTUAL F is going on with Jaqen H’Aghar? What’s the significance of the coin? And wtf does “Valar Morghulis” mean? Soooo many questions! I’m conflicted. On one hand, I’m slightly disappointed Arya didn’t go off with whoever that was. Of course, I understand her wanting to return to her family but imagine returning as a badass magical face changing assassin? That would’ve been epic! But I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing Jaqen again!
Yet, on the other hand, I’m not sure that’s really what Arya needs right now, given her current thirst for vengeance. I think she’s approaching a slippery slope. Of course, I want Arya to become a badass knight, but her progressively cavalier attitude towards killing is certainly unsettling, to say the least!
Also, Arya. YOU HAD THREE LIVES IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND. THREE. WHHHHHYYYYYYY????? GEORGE. SERIOUSLY???? Granted, she’s 10 but come on Arya! Bigger picture and all! Tywin. The Mountain. Joffrey. You could have ended it all!!!!! O.M.G!!!!!
I want to scream at somebody.
Seriously.
Now that I’ve come to the end, I leave this book feeling no less anxious for her safety than I did at the end of AGOT! From the little we’ve seen of Lord Bolton, he doesn’t seem like the forgiving type and I dread to think what would happen should they get caught! So she enters the next book, on the run. Again. Arya, what are you doing to my blood pressure???
JON: I am shocked! Shocked, people! Shocked that the Watch hasn’t been completely annihilated by the dead people roaming about! Not that I don’t believe that is still a valid concern, but I’m honestly amazed they’ve gotten this far without so much as a glimpse of them! I don’t think we’ve seen them at all in this novel? That in itself came as a huge surprise!
But my god, that march sounded absolutely miserable! It would’ve been horrible putting up with the cold, but constant rain on top of that? Hell to the no! Grim. Just kill me now. I could never!
We are introduced to the charming Craster in this book. What a delight he is! Honestly, I gagged. He marries his daughters and they give him more daughters. What? Wtf is it with incest in this series? No more. Please. We have sufficient incest George. Enough!
I am baffled as to Mormonts cavalier attitude towards Craster “sacrificing” his sons, though. He’s offering them to the gods, aka the ice zombies? What do they do with the sons? Wouldn’t that be an important question to ask? Do they eat them or recruit them? Can dead babies grow? Hahaha, I’m sorry, I just got an image in my head of what Dolorous Edd would say about getting taken out by a dead baby. Ha! Sorry. I love that man with all my heart btw.
I have a feeling though that Crasters daughter, Gilly, managed to sneak away and followed the Nights Watch, I feel like we’ll be seeing her again, why single her out otherwise?
I’m curious what the significance of Ghosts little discovery will be. Dragonglass? Is this used against the dead? Oooooohhhhh. I’m so f**king stupid. Dragons. Daenerys is going to play a big role in the fight against the dead isn’t she? Well that’s embarrassing that it took me this long to realise that. Lets draw a veil over that embarrassingly late epiphany, shall we?
Anyway, dragonglass, aka obsidian, a real world property, I understand the usefulness of fire breathing dragons but I’m not sure what makes dragonglass more powerful than normal steel? Unless this obsidian was formed by dragon fire? Perhaps. I shall wait and see!
So Jon has now become a double agent. Interesting indeed. I’m nervous for him. It’ll be interesting to see how he can convince Mance and the rest of the wildlings of his loyalty. I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume, as a son of Eddard Stark, forsaking his sworn word to the Nights Watch isn’t going to be an easy task for him…..
I honestly have no idea how he is going to come back from this, especially with nobody left to corroborate his story. Not to mention he was the one to kill the Halfhand. I feel like Mormont will believe him, but with this series? I can’t be too sure! I guess I’ll just have to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Again. I’m leaving Jon in another stressful position!
SANSA: How tf has nobody slaughtered Joffrey yet? Seriously. This is book two and he is still King? What the actual F**K??? SCREW YOU TO THE EXTREME, YOU LITTLE TOAD! FFS, I just want him to die slowly, screaming in agony. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for?! Oh, it was a beauty to behold when the little toad cut himself on the Iron Throne, crying for his mommy in front of the entire court, HA! Loved it. Peak literature, George! Thank you!
Unsurprisingly, Sansas position remains just as, if not more, precarious, as it did at the end of AGOT, now that her betrothal has been annulled.
I’m honestly surprised the marriage didn’t go ahead tbh. Going in to this book, I was certain I was going to watch Sansa being forced to marry this little c**t and I’m a little disappointed this didn’t happen. OK. OK. Let me explain. Obviously it would’ve put Sansa in a horrific position as Joffreys wife but she would have been Queen and a decent one at that, I’d bet! Playing her cards right, she could have amassed a certain level of influence.
I know that was a highly ambitious dream, as I doubt Cersei or Tyrion would have allowed her the opportunity and it certainly didn’t take into account the level of abuse she would have been forced to endure with Joffrey, but I wanted to dream.
So now she is no longer destined to be Queen, I’m really anxious for her future in Kings Landing, and I’m really hoping Dontos will finally get his act together and GET HER TF OUT OF THIS GODFORSAKEN CITY!
Also, can I just take a moment here to vent?
Dontos? Seriously? All the knights in the city and we’re given Dontos? Don’t get me wrong, I admire him for wanting to help Sansa but come on, Dontos??? His intent may be honourable but his capabilities are….lacking. He’s more likely to get her killed than rescued and as someone who wants to see Sansa safe, this stresses me tf out!
I have to say, I was very impressed with Sansa in this book. Saving Dontos being a prime example. Deftly done, I must say. This is what I’m saying when I think she would’ve been a good Queen, soothing the brutality of the King where she could.
I don’t think I mentioned it when discussing Tyrion, but the Blackwater battle was so well written! That entire sequence of chapters were my all time favourites of the series thus far! The back and forth between the battle outside and those seeking refuge within the castle walls, it made for gripping reading! I loved it! Which is quite surprising, as I’m usually not a fan of reading battle sequences, idk, my eyes just start glazing over when I’m reading pages of “my sword hit hard, I stumbled back, I raise another arm, I get hit in the back of the head, I lunge at my opponent, etc”, idk, it just never appealed to me before and I’d usually skip through all that to reach the outcome, but I was hooked!
I’m conflicted on how I feel about the Hound leaving without Sansa. Because I know for a fact her situation isn’t going to remotely improve until she gets the hell away from the Lannisters and the sooner, the better! But I don’t trust the Hound around her. I also think he would be too conspicuous for her to make a successful escape. I have no doubt he would die to protect her, but there is only so many opponents one man could take on before ultimately falling and then Sansa would be left to face untold misery.
That being said, I’m deeply troubled that with the Hound gone, Sansa has lost a valuable, if not somewhat unstable, ally. Aaaahhhhhh! Again, my blood pressure cannot handle this stress!
Theon: Serves me right for trying to give someone the benefit of the doubt! I think I described Theon as “a dick but somewhat good intentioned”. Yeah. He’s just a dick. What an utter idiot.
I can’t even be angry with him, now, that is. I was furious with him when he captured Winterfell, but in the end, I only felt pity for him. It’s never a nice thing, to realise what you are is so far removed from what you thought you could be, but add that on top of your imminent demise, it left Theons final days full of shame and melancholy.
I do feel a certain level of empathy for him. It couldn’t have been easy, growing up not really belonging and to return to what he considered his home, only to find it just as alien and void of any affection. I can certainly see the conflict of loyalty he felt between his foster family and his true family but omfg he made the absolute worst decision ever!
The Starks raised him, taught him everything he knows, he even pledged himself to Robb but of course, his inferior complex took over, blinding him and look where it got him!
I honestly don’t understand what his plan was though? In what world did he imagine he could hold Winterfell, regardless of how many men his sister left him? Did he honestly think Robb would just bend over and allow the Ironborn to keep the North? Aaaaaahhhhh!!!! The stupidity! I just can’t fathom it! I honestly can’t!
Can I just take this opportunity to shit talk the Ironborn? Because how tf have Westeros put up with these people for so long? Do they have any redeeming qualities? As far as I can tell, they’re Westeros’ equivalent of the Dothraki. Lawless pirates who have, for some reason or other, been allowed to rape, raid and pillage to their hearts content. Yuck.
I will say though, putting the whole, allowing her brother to feel her up part aside, I quite enjoyed Asha, and not only because she knew exactly how to push Theons buttons, ha! She’s everything Theon believed himself to be, and more! If she wasn’t so loyal to her father and undermining the Starks, I think I could like her!
Something I’m confused by however, Roose Boltons bastard is Ramsey Snow, but who was Reek and why did they think Ramsey was him to begin with? I’ll have to go back and reread because I either missed or forgot the explanation, but nevertheless, I hate him. He sounds disgusting, and I don’t mean the smell. It broke my heart to find out Lady Hornwood died such a tragic death, she seemed so sweet! Omg there is so much added misery in this series, we have enough sorrow going on with the main characters George, I don’t need to cry over the minors too!
Ramsey appears to be insane but tactful and that my friends is what I call a terrifying combination! I’m honestly unsure of what his goal is? Everyone believes him to be dead, why return to Winterfell once Theon freed him and kill the besieging army, only to then betray Theon in turn? Why tf does every single character have a scheme up their sleeves? Enough!
BRAN: I’m conflicted. I’m happy to see Bran finally getting the chance to head out into the wild in search for answers but it stinks that Winterfell had to be wiped out in order for this to be achievable. I honestly can’t see a scenario where Maester Luwin, Ser Rodrick etc would have allowed Bran the opportunity had Winterfell remained strong.
So, while I detest the actions of Theon and Ramsey as it significantly damaged Robbs position and led to untold misery for the castles inhabitants, it appears as though they actually inadvertently aided Brans progression in “How to Warg 101”. That’s if they actually succeed in their mission though! I’m still confused as to what exactly they will find or how they will manage to find it but I’m certain this will be significant, not just for Bran but for the Starks in general.
We finally find out the significance of Brans wolf “dreams”! Bran is actually a warg! But apparently Jon is too? And there are suggestions so is Robb? Perhaps even Rickon? Interesting. Very interesting. And very cool too! Damn, imagine how awesome it would be to be able to possess the body of a wolf!
It's deeply upsetting to me though that Sansa and Arya apparently are left out of this beyond incredible magical family trait! I’m assuming it’s because they have lost their wolfs? Another thing I can thank the f**king Lannisters for! Aaaahhhhh!
I’m curious though, Aryas direwolf is still alive and apparently leading an army of common wolfs in the Riverlands? Which is utterly badass in and of itself but if they’re reunited, does this mean Arya could potentially control an army of wolves? Or has their connection been broken? Oh, I hope not! I refuse to believe Nymeria is out there amassing a large force of wolfs only for it to lead nowhere! Oooohhhh, wait, will they be reunited now that Arya has fled Harrenhal? Oh that would be incredible! Imagine her rocking up to Riverrun with an army of wolves at her back!
On a sad note, does that leave Sansa as the only Stark sibling without magical abilities? Boo! I hate that!
I must say, after all they’ve been through, I feel for Rickon the most. Poor baby! He just wants his family back and I have no idea how he is going to process the loss of his last remaining family member. He wasn’t handling the situation too well to begin with, but now? That child is gonna need a hell of a lot of therapy and can we please sign Shaggydog up for some anger management classes too? That wolf troubles me!
I’m very intrigued to learn more about the Reeds! As crannogmen, they appear to be somewhat disconnected from the rest of the North, with their own unique traits and customs. Seemingly more in touch with the environment around them, there are claims they are descended from the children of the forest. I have a feeling they will prove invaluable on the expedition North!
I should probably be concerned that they’re essentially a small group of children on a journey through a divided and hostile land but I’m feeling naively optimistic of their chances. I know that this has backfired on me in the past but I can’t give up hope! I refuse!
DAENERYS (DAY-EN-AIR-E-US?): I must say, the pace of Daenerys’ chapters took quite a slow turn in this book, didn’t they? Perhaps there were times I felt the story moved a little too slow for my liking but I knew going into this book, things weren’t going to fall onto her lap overnight
Although her dragons hatched, when we left Daenerys in AGOT, she was pretty much sitting at rock bottom, her husband and child dead, the vast majority of her people gone, along with all of Drogos wealth I imagine too! I knew it would take time for her to get back on her feet and that was essentially what her ACOK journey was.
We start off the book with the red comet and, although every character appears to take it as a sign of their coming, I feel like Daenerys was the obvious recipient. Heralding in the new era of dragons! They sounded adorable btw! “Who’s going to grow up to be big weapons of mass destruction? You are! Yes you are! Yes you are!!!” Cute but they’re gonna do some damage! I can’t wait to see Joffreys face when he gets burned to a crisp! Hehe, I can’t wait!
I’m surprised by the names she chose for them though. Drogon makes sense, he was her moon and stars after all, but I’m surprised she named the other two after her brothers, both of which don’t really have the greatest of reputations?
Sent by the comet, Daenerys spent most of her time in Qarth seeking out its leaders to fund her conquest of Westeros, frustratingly, to no avail. Even more frustratingly is that she had to sell all of her newly acquired wealth to fund her ultimately worthless bribes.
The only thing of note was her trip to the House of the Undying and it instantly humbled me of any belief that I was in any way wise because there is no way in hell I would’ve made it out of that maze alive!
I’m assuming these were hallucinations brought on by whatever it was she drank but obviously with some element of magic?
There were a lot of visions but the two that stood out to me were:
The wolf head with the Iron crown is obviously Robb. The feast with corpses, I’m guessing this is depicting the savagery of the war? Perhaps it signifies the walking dead? From my earlier embarrassingly late realisation, I’m guessing this references the need for Daenerys’ help against the dead?
Secondly, what Daenerys made out to be her brother Rhaegar with his wife and newborn son, “his is the song of ice and fire”, “there must be one more……the dragon has three heads”, Daenerys has three dragons, I’m assuming Rhaegar believed his son to be “the Prince that was promised”, but I’m guessing instead it’s Daenerys? My brain hurts trying to process this! In reality, I have absolutely no idea what the hell was going on but those are the only takes I could come up with! Like Daenerys, this sequence has left me with far more questions than answers!
My blood pressure is not having a good time with all of this, which is not helped with the knowledge that Daenerys has made a powerful enemy with regards to the warlocks! Especially now that their powers are getting stronger! That’s just perfect!
I’m glad to see her leaving Qarth, the further away the better, I say! But I’m honestly surprised Illyrio found her so quickly! Hopefully once she reaches Pentos she can gather forces and enhance her position while waiting for her dragons to grow bigger and stronger! Thinking about it, I’m pretty sure Daenerys is the only character leaving this book on a high lol!
DAVOS We have new players entering the game ladies and gents! I really liked Davos and I’m hoping we haven’t seen the last of him? I don’t think we have but I’m not sure how the man could possibly survive!
I really felt for him! To watch the man you serve fall into the arms (figuratively or perhaps literally) of a religious fanatic! I mean, come on George, zealots are bad enough without giving them magical powers!
Davos himself is an interesting character. He appears to be a decent, kind hearted man which took me a while to get used to as we’ve met so few of them in this series so far! Turning from a smuggler to a knight and right hand man to Stannis Baratheon, he is in quite a unique position within Westeros, as well as Stannis’ Court. I can’t imagine many commoners are given such a meteoric rise in fortunes! Stannis himself sees his true worth but he must endure the snobbery of his Lords bannermen, God forbid they had to listen to wisdom from a commoner! Gasp! The horror!
We got a glimpse of his backstory, apparently he smuggled onions into Storms End during Roberts Rebellion, making all the difference to the besieged, but it’s unclear as to how he was put in that position to begin with? I imagine he had some sort of relationship with Stannis beforehand in order for him to take such a risk? Especially when he allowed Stannis to mutilate him in return for his service? I get he was granted a keep and lands and everything, but my god, no wonder nobody ran to fight for Stannis!
Let’s actually talk about Stannis. I’m not sure how I feel about him. There are instances, mainly his interactions with Davos and his relationship with Devan, that I really like him and I can certainly see why a man like Davos supports him, but then there are aspects of his personality that I find grating. The grinding teeth habit aside, I just can’t get past the sulkiness. I swear, he remembers every single slight given it him since he was born and refuses to forgot or forgive! Perhaps I could overlook this aspect of his personality, had he not aligned himself with such a fanatic. I mean, from as far as I can tell, he has more or less sold his soul to the devil.
I can’t help but make the comparison here to Macbeth. They share many similarities and I can very well see them sharing the same fate because there is no way in hell Stannis is this "Azor Ahai”! I mean, it was a cool little trick and sounds like an amazing sword but that whole spectacle of retrieving it from the flames was an absolute farce!
Besides, Stannis has already been defeated. Alive, but backed into a corner! I don’t see him giving up, though! That man will fight until the bitter end! I admire him for that but allowing himself to so overtly ingratiate himself with this religious cult, I can’t say I’ll be sad to see him lose, which I believe, ultimately, he will, but with Melisandre by his side, I can see him causing a lot of damage before he falls. So long as that damage is contained solely towards the Lannisters though, I’ll be satisfied.
I will say, his assault on Kings Landing made for an unsettling array of emotions. Who tf was I supposed to root for??? Its no secret that I want Joffrey and Cersei to die, ideally painfully, but I was rooting for Tyrion to succeed!
At the same time, I really like Davos and I wouldn’t have an issue with Stannis as ruler but for Melisandre! In the end I gave up on choosing a side and just prayed my favourite characters survived!
I’m curious to see, should he survive, where Davos’ story goes from here. I have a feeling he has become a Lannister prisoner!
As for Stannis? “Double, double, toil and trouble.”

2023.05.28 21:50 Pydras 27 [M4F] BC/Canada/Online - Seeking someone to search the stars with!

Maybe that title is a bit too cheesy, but I really do like exploring the night sky. Helps especially since my hometown was a great place to do so. That all aside, hello! I am Pydras, fat cat collector, lessor avatar of chaos, and most boring of all, corporate accountant. I am to find people to potentially connect with and see what develops. Whether that leads to friendship or something more will remain to be seen, but life is short so have to get out there and try!
A little more about me! As stated earlier, I am a corporate accountant, currently working in BC. I am quite fond of cooking, and decent enough at it as well! I would say at least 67% of it would be tolerable to most people. Since my job is basically just sitting around all day, I try and workout at least three or four times a week to stay active and in shape. That being said I do have a sweet tooth that I am quite good at managing, except for my weakness of homemade baked goods. Art wise, I really have no skills in most of those areas except for writing (use to do some RP back in the day). Well, I do make quite the horrible MS Paint masterpiece if the inspiration hits, so that might count. Politically I am quite on the left side, and religion wise I tend to fall more into agnosticism and atheism.
For subject interests, my top three would probably have to be history, geography, and geology. One of my favourite things to do when bored is open Google maps and go to a random area and see what I can learn of those three for it. However, my absolute biggest interest and the one I hold closest to me is music. While I can't really play an instrument (have been trying to relearn piano), I usually have some sort of playlist on if I am not too busy or in a loud environment. I can literally go into paragraphs upon paragraphs about some of my favourite songs. Just about what I like about them, how they make me feel, etc. I am always up for sharing or creating playlists with someone, I truly feel like music is one of the better ways to get to know someone. My usual genres end up to alternative, indie, and math rock, but I will really just listen to anything that I like the sound of.
Hobby wise, it sort of depends on what time of the year it is. If the weather is nice in the spring or summer, I love to go for long walks and hiking. Just being out in nature beings a sense of relaxation and peace you can't get anywhere else. Plus, the views, just all the amazing views and secrets you can come upon. When the weather is not as pleasant or it is winter (so quite a few months here), I am usually found being a homebody. Probably no surprise, but gaming is a major filler of my time when I have nothing else to do. My main game right now is FFXIV, realized today that I have been playing it for over half a decade at this point, how time flies. I do enjoy the Paradox Interactive games as well, especially with all the amazing mods some of them have. Like music, I could spend hours talking about some of my favourite games. Would also love more people to play with, generally not picky about what, as long as you don't mind me potentially sucking. Gaming with people is always such a joy and fun time. I can be quite the reader if a particular book or series catches my attention. Once burned through a trilogy in a week since it captivated me so much. One of the dangers I found with me reading is I'll always go for one more chapter, then suddenly it is 3 am. Don't really have any specific genres in particular, though I am quite the sucker for some good worldbuilding.
I could probably keep rambling about myself, but why take away all the fun? As said before, I am looking for someone to see what kind of connection we can build. Location wise, for something more than friendship, you would likely have to be in Canada or have plans to move here. While I do enjoy all my friends in the US, I have no desire to move there unfortunately. Either way, if I intrigued your interests feel free to send me a DM and we can connect from there!

Memory transcription subject: Liara, Prime News Reporter
Date [standardized human time]: November 3, 2136
My prompter counted down as my stage lights brightened, and I watched the camera light go live.
I took a deep breath and began the interview, “From Prime News, it’s ‘How I Built This,’ the show that dives deep into the stories of remarkable entrepreneurs and their journey to success. I’m Liara Raz and on today's show: how Ricardo Mota Esparza and Vye turned their small machine shop into a life saving business and helped reconnect Venlil Prime with its industrial past.”
Kotaka pointed right, and I followed him to Camera Two.
“A few days ago, my ear trimmer broke. Not a big deal, I’ve had it for ages and it served me well. When I went to the store to get a new one… nothing. There wasn’t a single trimmer to be found. I tried to order one with the same result.”
I watched a few tails of the audience swaying in agreement, it seems that trimmer comparison landed! I’ll need to give the writer a fruit bowl sometime.
Back to Camera One, “As I looked into the reason, it turned out that we got all of our small motors from Fahl and with the border closed for trade, we didn’t have the ability to make our own small motors. We know how to make these motors, but we don’t have the machines to manufacture them. And with fabricators in short supply, I, like so many of you, have had to go back to using scissors.”
Ears back, flick the tail. They are just as unhappy as you.
“Today, we have a special guest joining us in the studio who is helping to change that. Please welcome Ricardo Mota Esparza, the co-founder of Predator Parts Machine Shop on Venlil Prime. Ricardo, it's a pleasure to have you here.”
Quickly switching to a positive affect, I turned my attention to the man sitting across from me in the studio. Following Talen’s example, the studio had positioned the chairs to face each other instead of the camera. I had thought the human would be covered in oil and stained pelts but his clean appearance showed I still needed to work on my own biases.
He wore a tight, light green chest-pelt that traveled down the length of his arms, only revealing the caramel skin of his hands. There was an outline in the pocket on his chest pelt where he had stashed a small data pad. Below that, the human also wore dark blue coverings that stretched all the way down that ended just above his feet, which were dressed with foot coverings of a golden yellow color of which contrasted harshly against the drab interior of the studio.
“Just ‘Rocky’ please. And thank you, Liara, for having me. It's an honor to be on your show.”
Good, let’s keep this relaxed and show everyone there is nothing to fear. Rocky had a deeper voice than any other interview subject I had met before, but there was a light airiness about his vocalization that was quite pleasant.
He took our pre-broadcast rehearsal well. He smiled through closed lips, careful not to show his flesh-tearering fangs. His movements were slower than they had been when he arrived; his hands gesticulating with every word. This might be easier than I thought.
“Rocky, let's start from the beginning. You were a machine shop worker on Earth when you joined the exchange program, correct? What was your first impression of your partner Vye?”
Rocky started moving his arms as he spoke and it was mesmerizing to watch his body language despite my inability to comprehend any of it. Without a tail, it made sense that humans would come up with another solution, I just didn’t expect it to be so… beautiful.
It’s like I’m watching a master Strayu chef kneading fresh dough; or a conductor directing an orchestra.
“Oh, we hit it off right away. We shared a lot of interests and talked about everything under the sun. Vye was working for a fabrication shop as an apprentice when he signed up to meet me in person. We had a great time on Station 2 and we tried to maintain contact after the program as well. When news that the Federation had started assembling ships to attack Earth, I was on one of the first flights to Venlil Prime.”
“I imagine it must have been hard to leave everything behind you and flee here. Can you tell us a bit about those difficult times?”
Please don’t say anything violent. Just stick to the talking points and you will be fine.
“I would rather not discuss that. Like most people, I lost loved ones and everything I had built when it was all destroyed by the Federation, but Vye was there for me from the moment I landed.”
I tried to keep my tail from curling, this was going more smoothly than nearly half of my past interviews! Just like we rehearsed, he skipped over the messy details and dived right into their industry.
“Vye encouraged me to find a new purpose and start anew. He is a crazy guy and wicked smart. He realized what was happening with the machines after Federation borders closed and trade was cut off. He had been working on establishing his own shop before I arrived, and needed an extra set of hands. Working with Vye gave me… focus. Focus enough to help me through everything.”
Lucky guy. Whew, okay, the hard part’s over.
“That's truly inspiring, Rocky. So, how did you and your business partner go about setting up your machine shop on Venlil Prime?”
“Initially, Vye and I tried to secure funding and supplies from the UN embassy, but the bureaucracy proved challenging. We then decided to approach the Venlil Government directly, explaining our vision to help both humans and Venlil who lost their jobs due to closed borders and Federation attack. They agreed to provide two old fabricators and a small grant to kickstart our venture very quickly.”
“That's remarkable! By bridging the gap between humans and Venlil, you not only found support but also a mutually beneficial collaboration. How did it all begin?”
Come on, you are doing great! Remember to highlight humans and venlil working together.
“With the fabricators, Vye and I started manufacturing parts for another brand-new fabricator while we advertised our services with flyers and ads on Bleat. Our first client was a farmer who was on the brink of losing his harvest due to broken harvester drones. He took a chance on us, and we delivered quality parts in just a couple paws.”
Excellent answer. Rocky adjusted himself in his seat and I knew he didn’t mean to, but it was clear just how strong he was as his muscles flexed underneath his tight chest-pelt. He looked at me expectantly, reminding me I needed to ask the next question.
Glancing at my list, I prompted him, “It sounds like your dedication to quality and timely service quickly gained attention. How did your business grow from there and who came up with the name for your business?”
That wasn’t in the talking points! Why did I ask that? Speh! I had to make a conscious effort to control my tail and ears so as not to give away my mistake.
“I knew you were going to ask about that. It’s stupid. Vye and I couldn’t decide on which name to use, so we each picked our favorites and then we flipped a coin. Vye won so we named the shop Predator Parts Machine Shop.”
“The name was Vye’s idea?”
Thank the sun and stars, Rocky I could nuzzle you. You really saved my hide with that answer.
“Yeah, he wanted to stand out from other shops and create a brand. A deal’s a deal so he got to pick the name. Word spread within the farming communities about our affordable, high-quality results. We hired more workers, both experienced and untrained, to keep up with demand. Within three weeks, we rented out the rest of the building and started training human refugees as mechanics and repairmen.”
“It's incredible how you turned adversity into opportunity, Rocky. What motivated you to empower unemployed venlil and human refugees, and help them rebuild their lives after all the turmoil that has happened since first contact?”
Rocky’s eye fur rose and he looked to his side, up and away from the camera. I had seen many humans do this when they were thinking. It was a cute quirk. For how dangerous they were supposed to be, they seemed like children in some ways.
“After the Federation's attack on Earth, many of us humans were left with nothing to return to and venlil were still hurting from the Federation’s decision to cut off all trade. It was a chance for us to come together, learn from one another, and create a new future. We hired Venlil workers to train humans in fixing common equipment, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.”
“Your story is truly inspiring, Rocky. However, I understand that there have been some challenges along the way. Could you share a recent incident that reflects the lingering fear some still have towards humans?”
Now to drive it home. Rocky sat up and intertwined his digits in front of him as I asked my question.
“Certainly, Liara. Just this morning when I was covering for our receptionist, I received a phone call at our office from the Capitol Spaceport. The caller hung up as soon as I answered and ignored my call back. I had to contact Mr. Cass at the main office in the Capitol Spaceport to find out that their fabricators are broken. It's a reminder that despite the progress we've made, there are still people who harbor fear and uncertainty.”
Bunch of morons stuck in the past and holding the herd back.
“It's disheartening to hear that some remain fearful, but your efforts are undoubtedly making a difference. Looking back on your journey, what are your reflections, Rocky?”
Now let's finish strong.
“The path we've walked has been challenging, but it has also been rewarding beyond measure. We’ve built a thriving business, repaired machines of all kinds, and provided employment opportunities to those in need. Our customers are mostly welcoming and appreciative, but there is still work to be done in breaking down barriers and fostering understanding.”
“Rocky, your story serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of unity. Thank you for sharing your journey with us today.”
“Thank you, Liara. It was a pleasure being here and sharing my story.”
“And that concludes our interview with Rocky Mota Esparza, one of the remarkable entrepreneurs behind a thriving machine shop on Venlil Prime. Join us next time on ‘How I Built This’ as we uncover more extraordinary stories of innovation and determination. Until then, stay inspired and keep building. Goodbye!”
Memory transcription subject: Leena, Human Refugee Host
Date [standardized human time]: November 6, 2136
“Leena, your father and I were worried when you said that you found someone and moved in together so quickly but now that we have met her, we are happy that you have found another mate.” My mother flicked her tail and waved her ears in an outpouring of support.
But I was floored. Mate? They thought that we were together? I bloomed intensely, the heat radiating from my face felt like a furnace. Dani’s eyes widened, her reddening expression betraying a mix of shock and confusion; and was that a smile on her face?
Dad swayed his tail warmly, “We understand how most people are concerning humans but you don’t need to worry about that from us. We are your parents and we love you no matter what, and we are happy to meet the pr-... the human who captured our daughter’s heart.”
Mom followed up without skipping a beat.
"We've noticed how close you and Dani have become and we are happy for you but we are a bit concerned that you didn’t tell us you were being pursued by anyone."
I don’t know what was more difficult to process, the incorrect belief that we were a mated pair, the joy and support I was getting from my parents, or Dani’s stifled laughter at the whole situation. Captured my heart? Being Pursued? Had they rehearsed this?
“What? No, Mom, we're not... I mean, we're just… she’s…”
I stumbled, trying to find the right words to clarify the situation. I stole a nervous glance at Dani, looking for a lifeline and finding none, before turning back to mother.
Mom continued with her ears facing me, "Leena, your father and I were the same way. We knew we were soul mates the moment we met! We moved in together only a few [months] later; we understand the whirlwind of romance. You’re a grown woman and we’re so proud of you.”
Not to be outdone, Dad added his own thoughts.
“You’re moving much faster than we did, but we are happy you two are starting a life together! And the way Dani loves your children, it seems like they have built a real relationship of trust despite the… differences.”
I flicked my tail in confirmation. "Yes, she's been wonderful with them. They've grown fond of her in just a few days, and she's been like family with m- with them bu…"
Dani couldn’t help herself, she had to make things worse, the opportunity must have been irresistible.
"Oh, Leena, my love, you're making me blush!"
She closed one eye quickly while she looked at me, enjoying the lightheartedness of the moment with a gentle smile, but she didn’t seem to understand what my parents meant. Before I could respond to her jest, Dad leaned forward, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Dani, you know this isn’t the first time Leena has tried to keep a secret from us. When…”
Sun and stars I know what he is going to say, “Dad, please!”
“...she was 6, she met a boy in school and they became fast friends. Well, being as young as they were they thought that nuzzling meant they were a mated pair, so Leena comes home and asks us how to make a Vyalkit. We told her how we made ours and the next day, she and the boy were shaved so close you might have thought they were applying to become exterminators!”
Dad loved that story, he told everyone he could, but it was never any less embarrassing.
“Needless to say, her secret ‘husband’ didn’t stay a secret for long and we set her straight.”
Mother turned her gaze on me, moving her ears in sympathy, but I saw how her tail swayed during dads retelling.
“You don’t need to keep your relationship a secret from us. We know how other people feel about humans. Just know that we don’t care that she is a woman, that she isn’t a venlil or even that she’s a predator. We just want you to be happy.”
Dani's laughter escaped her control, and she erupted into a fit of giggles. I couldn’t resist her infectious laughter. She was too full of joy in the face of what was one of my most embarrassing moments so I picked up a soft toy and playfully threw it at her, hitting her square in the head to my surprise.
"Okay, okay, I confess, " Dani managed between laughs. "Leena and I are secretly in love, and we're announcing our relationship tonight."
My eyes widened, a mixture of surprise, embarrassment, amusement and horror.
"Dani!" I bleated helplessly.
Mom and Dad exchanged glances, their tails swaying faster.
"Oh, Leena," Mom said, her voice filled with joy, "we're so happy for you. Love knows no boundaries, and we accept your human mate with open arms."
My ears fell flat against my skull, and all I could do was stammer. "But... but we're not..."
Dani burst into uncontrollable laughter before I could finish the sentence. My eyes narrowed, and I threw another soft toy at her in defiance.
"I can't believe you!" I exclaimed, my voice laced with both amusement and annoyance. "You're enjoying this way too much."
Dani wiped away tears of laughter, finally gaining control of herself. "I'm sorry, Leena. It was just too funny not to go along with it for a moment."
"You're terrible, Dani!"
Taking a deep breath to regain composure and control, I put both paws on the table.
"Dad, Mom, let me explain. You see, after Dani saved Tas and Vissa following the stampede, I didn't mention her because I hadn't seen her since we met at the hospital. When Governor Tarva made her announcement, I went to the park with Tas and Vissa to get some air, and that is when we met again. We talked and since she needed a place to stay, we agreed we could help each other.”
My eyes fell towards the table, embarrassment coloring my features again. “I'm sorry I didn't tell you she moved in sooner. I've been preoccupied with finding work and money troubles. We’ve become friends, and she offered to rent the spare room to help me financially."
Amidst Dani’s laughter, Mom and Dad shared a puzzled look, their excitement dying down. Dad spoke up first, his voice filled with curiosity.
"Wait, you mean... you and Dani are not in a relationship?"
Dani shook her head, “No, I’m just renting the spare room. I love children and without a job right now, I have lots of time to help Leena. There is nothing going on between us.”
My mother’s blush brightened slightly as she realized her mistake. "O-Oh, we misinterpreted the situation, I apologize. But we're still happy that you've met someone like Dani, Leena. It seems she's been a wonderful presence in both your life and the childrens’."
I looked at my mother with my ears perking up. She looked at me lovingly, expressing genuine joy through her features.
"Yes! I appreciate your understanding. Dani truly has been amazing but we are only friends, nothing more."
"Darling, we're sorry for jumping to conclusions. We love you, no matter what. Whether you find love with a venlil or a human, we just want you to be happy."
I couldn’t help it when my blush deepened, feeling a mixture of love and appreciation for my parents over their proclamation of support.
My father smiled warmly, "Well Dani, thank you very much for being a supportive friend to our Leena. I apologize for our confusion." He chuckled guiltily.
She nodded at him with a smile on her face. This turned out better than I had hoped given the start of the meal! The tension melted away as the confusion and mistakes were cleared up.
"Thank you, Dad, Mom. I'm grateful for your understanding."
Mom placed her paws onto both mine and Dani's, her gaze filled with love. "Leena, we love you no matter what. If you ever find someone who truly makes you happy, regardless of their species or gender, we will support you."
I was overcome with gratitude and pride in my parents, my tail swayed back and forth, "All of your support means the world to me."
Dani added her own reassurances and I hoped she wasn’t too upset with me throwing things at her.
"Leena, you have a wonderful family." Dani admitted.
The room filled with a sense of joy and relief, and laughter slowly replaced the tension. The misunderstanding had been cleared, and we enjoyed the rest of the claw after the humorous mix-up. During the rest of the meal, I stole quick glances at Dani. I felt a mixture of gratitude, concern and something else that I couldn’t quite describe. She was so full of life and joy and understanding.
Later while lying in bed and reflecting on the conversation we had during the meal, I didn’t know how she could be so happy after her world had been attacked, and everything she knew and loved was destroyed. I had been mortified with how things went during the meal at the moment but she just laughed and made light of it all.
Thank you Solgalick.

2023.05.28 21:15 ABeardedLibrarian Is it weird to ask for character sheets as a DM, or did I accurately identify a red flag?

So I'll try to summarize as succinctly as I can. I've been infrequently DMing campaigns for a while now. I like to think I am pretty good at Narrative DMing, and the level of out-of-game hatred my players in a homebrew I am running have for the antagonist they chose (Oh, she could have been a party ally. There were a few possible endgame antagonists.) makes me feel confident in that statement.
Interested in being a player, I went looking to join online games. Realizing how many people are doing the same thing, I answered a call to be a DM for an online groups. There were ups and downs in the search, but eventually I found a group who vibed really well and appreciated the homebrew setting I had built.
The character designs I was hearing the rough outlines for were -chefs kiss- They really drank in my world and built characters around it. Some of the less successful groups I had reached out to, it really felt like they didn't read a single thing I sent them and were going to play an identical character in any game they were in.
I'm fine with that in broad strokes. However, when your character is overtly contradicting world building I've set up...
Anyway. The group I landed on were supposed to be launching our First Session in a bit more than 24 hours. Half of which I will be spending at work and therefore unable to prepare for the campaign.
I had asked the group, a few times, for character sheets and a broad strokes outline of characters. I expressed that I wanted to know about their characters so I could design the way the world would be interacting with them, side quests, etc.
I had asked that they try to have their characters to me by the end of the week, and then yesterday afternoon. Each time I asked, the party itself got more and more quiet with me. By the end, only the guy who recruited me answered when I said I would very much like finalized character outlines by yesterday afternoon so I could nail down my plans for their characters as DM.
Suffice it to say, I did not get them.
"Aight. Thanks for taking an interest in my homebrew setting. Best of luck in your future endeavours."
Ghosted.
Am I being a jerk? Is it weird of me to want character outlines and character sheets as a DM?
I need that information. I need to balance encounters around your characters, and I want to design roleplay/narrative aspects around them. In the group I successfully ran this setting with, 2/3 characters got special knowledge because their characters were such that they would intuitively know more than the surface level campaign description.
I can't do this if I don't know about your characters.
In one instance, I didn't even know what class/race the dude wanted to be.
I'm more confused than anything else. Why did they get so into my world building only to act that way? If they needed more time, I was prepared to wait for like, a month. They're the ones who were pushing a quick start date. I'm sitting here like...
  1. Is this a prank?
  2. Do you have an outmoded 'The DM is the enemy' thought pattern and you are trying to keep things secret? I can't worldbuild you a personal questline if I know nothing about your characters.
  3. Did ya'll just get pinged by a DM you prefered and ghost me first?
I'm more confused than angry at this point. These guys were more into my world building than anyone I've ever met. Their characters could only work in my world, or one with similar world building.
And they deadass just didn't give me finalized character outlines/sheets.
I literally didn't even know what Race/Class/Alignment one of them wanted to be. We were supposed to launch tomorrow, the second I got home from work. This was a time/date they suggested. I didn't even know what race/class/alignment one of them was, and they wanted to launch.
Any insight into what might have been happening by more experienced DMs?

2023.05.28 21:11 Heatherfeathersong [Online] Experienced player looking to replace bi-weekly 5E Friday game!

Please note this post is very long. I am a detailed person and just want everything out there.
Hello there Reddit. As the title says I am looking to replace a bi-weekly Friday game that I was part of but due to real life happening with the DM and various cancellations he decided to end the game. The thing is I really enjoyed the story I came up with for this character as well as some of the people despite only getting to play a few sessions. So I wanted to test the waters to see if any GM's were looking for players that I may be able to join and could potentially bring in others from the same game.
I am looking solely for 5E at this time as I am in school and I don't want to really learn new systems. Plus this character that I really want to play again was developed for 5E.
A Little About Myself
I am female and 30 years old, I have been playing D&D for 6-7 or so years give or take. I thus don't need much help at all in constructing the mechanic of characters. I am getting my AA and looking to Major in Psychology but so far that hasn't gotten in the way of my other campaigns.
I am very good at communication and unless its an emergency to the point I don't have time to warn ahead of time I ALWAYS let a DM know if life comes up for me to miss a session or so. I am someone who loves to work with a DM to build a story so I am a very rp focused and rp forward player. In turn I am always open to grow and learn.
I live for the "no way" moments of D&D. The surprises, the nat 20's and 1's that come at the right and wrong times, the character backstory reveals and mysteries, and of course the hijinks and really strange plans that somehow work that make everyone say "no way."
What I look for in GM's
Respectful and great at communication. Creative individuals, I much prefer and seek out homebrew systems then modules. I want to see the worlds and idea's that a DM creates. I do not like player vs GM mentality nor GM vs Player mentality so someone of the same mind. I want to help build your story and want to give you a character that you can have fun with, and I want you to take what I give you and use it to truly to your best content. As little or as much that sparks the creative process. I like building relations with DM's, I dare DM's to hurt my characters on a regular basis.
Schedule
My Timezone is PST
I am looking primarily for bi-weekly game either Friday or Sundays. I can be persuaded into weekly but only on one condition. You see I am in a friend group where I started playing D&D our games have been going on for a long time. We have three "active" games still going but they are not by any means weekly, they are MAYBE monthly though lately its been "every few months". It's more that they like to take time to prepare, or psyche themselves up. So if it comes to a point where all the other players can play on that day, that I will very much probably choose to sit out a weekly session to play with my friend group with full knowledge it'll be awhile until the next session.
If this is okay then I can do weekly. And do please know my friend group is incredibly understanding, if we are in a very story driven period especially involved with my character I will mark as many days as needed as "cannot play" and my friends will plan for a different time and be willing to wait. It will never be "oh next session fighting big bad I am gonna ditch" more like "next session I know I won't be much involved or is a shopping episode I can afford to miss it". I stress heavily that this will not be a regular occurrence. A maybe once every few months.
Other life obligations may come up as well but that is the truth for everyone and as I said I will always communicate that.
Character
Like I mentioned above I do have a character that I really want to use that I didn't get to see her story come to life in this campaign. I am not opposed to making new characters but I just would love the chance to see her through since I only got like 4 sessions with her.
Her name is Samhain Beltane. (Saa-wnn) (Bell-tayn)
At least that is the name she is going by, her original name she cannot recall...and anytime she tries to recall those little details her mind goes foggy or even hurts like she's getting a migraine. She is a young woman somewhere around 16-19 its hard to tell due to her keeping her face covered with a porcelain mask.
Samhain is part of a group called The Eternal Masquerade, lead by a woman who calls herself
"Madam Carna Vall" to outsiders and clients and "Mama Carna Vall" to her troupe.
Everyone in the group wears circus and performing like attire, they seem like innocent entertainers and are a delight during festivals. People of nobility clamor for them to attend great balls and gala's. Their intentions are more then just mere entertainment, it is information. Madam Carna Vall, while extravagant as she is does not take too kindly to people in power who only know how to hoard and lord it over others. Overabundance of pride and arrogance is usually befalls kingdoms. But she also knows that great leaders and heroes need to be built through conflict and tough decisions, those who are too weak or afraid will also bring others down with them. She is thus on everyone's side and no one's side at the same time, as she finds secrets and blackmail on what all goes on in places where her troupe have significant hold. While people are entertained other members listen and sneak around to either find and unearth the rumors and scandals...or to start them. She has wrecked and built the reputations of many depending on how she feels will lead to the best results for the means of many.
Samhain came into her fold when she was a young child, due to unfortunate circumstances that lead to her parents demise. An event that shook Samhain's core, left alone...but only for a little while as her parents spirits would come to her and guide her. They told her who to seek out in Madam Carna Vall an ally who helped them before. It was them who would also give her a mask before she died and told her to never take it off, never let anyone see her true face, and to not use her name. This event would open her up to the spirits around her as she made many new friends and still looked over by her parents.
She is in mechanical terms intended to be a multi-class of Phantom Rogue and College of Spirits Bard. Her race is an Aasimar and while as a child she was protector due to the events she has fallen and the intention would be for her to eventually become protector again.
I don't want to go into further details just there is a lot with her parents as they were murdered by enemies of their past.
Should this post interest and you want to know more about myself or about the character please contact me here on reddit that you are interested and share with me your discord handle where I may contact you. Thank you so much for reading and hope to hear from someone.

2023.05.28 21:10 the_direful_spring Campaign factions

So for a... rather delayed campaign I've come up with a few factions which I want to involve in a campaign. Its a sandbox game with factions competing in the area that the party might have a chance to work with or fight against. I've a couple of core ones and a range of other ideas but I'm aware at this point I should probably be cutting some. So i thought I'd throw this out there and get some advice as to what people thought was most interesting and what people thought should either be entirely discarded or at least moved to a back burner.
For a quick setting overview i'm going with some of the classic clash of order and freedom type of thing borrowing some ideas from things like Dark Sun and Mesopotamian history as inspiration. Broadly this part of the continent has most of its agricultural land focused around the coasts and some river systems that extend into the interior of the continent, most of this agricultural land is ruled by powerful city states dominated by Draconic King. Beyond this the lands surrounding it are largely arid, plant life only briefly able to flourish in the wet season as wadis fill for a time, the lands and people here often wild. Go far enough north and you hit a region of hills and mountains of a different but equally harsh nature most often.
So 2 factions which are must haves
Meshant
The closest of the great city states to the starting area, ruled by a powerful Blue Dragon named Ukrik'Azahim'Mli and with a satellite town called Oulm'Aki being a possible starting/hub location, a modest town sitting at the edge of a minor tributaries of the larger river upon with Meshant sits. As with many of the great dragon city states slavery is common here, order is often enforced ruthlessly and the society is extremely hierarchical, with a small clique of wealthy nobles (most of whom are dragonborn) at the top and a large number of slaves and poorer subjects at the bottom of the pile. However, it represents a place of socio-economic complexity, that embraces long distance trade. Ukrik'Azahim'Mli is also quite a capable ruler, he's been fairly good at fending off the attempts of rivals to conquer his lands and has earned wealth for his city through wars, his court is a centre of learning regarding the magical and mundane, as well as being a patron of the arts. His legal system may provide broad powers when dealing with those accused of crimes against those of a higher station but the great storm dragon does still value something approaching rule of law. And if you are someone who values things like trade and literacy it is Meshant that will further such things. For an adventurer who seeks wealth and prestige the forces of Meshant are also perhaps the best resourced to offer such things.
Here in Ouim'Aki, the governor Amar-Suen is the governor of a town at the edge of the city's zone of control, the river that connects them navigable in the wetter parts of the year but not always easy and safe to traverse with Ouim'Aki sitting on the north shore of a marshy lake in the wet season as water collects from nearby areas, the river flowing out to the south and joins the flow of a larger river at Meshant. Meanwhile with a new campaigning season likely to begin it is likely the king will bring his power southwards to wage war on his neighbouring monarchs meaning although Meshant is the greatest power in this region not all of its resources will be focuses here.
The Hatussa
The Hatussa describe a loose, fluid group of desert nomads that live in this area, their population is made up of a fair mixture of desert elves along with humans, half elves and a smattering of other races. The people of the cities would call them barbarians, surviving off pastoralism, hunting and gathering as they move across the landscape in small groups rather than farming, having no knowledge of writing and with the concept of law being nothing more than a group of loose shared norms, the enforcement of which is not the monopoly of any king, judge or their men. Those of the city might describe them as untrustworthy, at one time happy to do trade and at another to engage in banditry and raiding. The deserts they live in can often be tough places, low on water in many parts of the year and even at the best of times wild monsters and dangerous beasts are not uncommon. However they are lovers of freedom, decisions are often made by consensus among groups, leaders often chosen only for a specific purpose such as conducting a raid or a negotiation, their lose political structure lacking many of the traditional facets of state structure such as taxation and a monopoly on the use of force.
But I have some other ideas for factions and I'm debating which I might also include.
The Nethaniah
For generations the valley dwarfs have lived as slaves or poor lower class workers in the realms of the Draconic Kings. The Nethaniah are a local group focused on the liberation of of the Valley Dwarfs in particular and perhaps abolition more broadly, hoping to either rebel against the King of Meshant and free perhaps Oulm'Aki or else take as many of their people as possible and find somewhere to free. On their own however they know they lack the strength to have much chance of taking Meshant on. They are known for including warriors highly skilled using simple weapons and in unarmed combat but some are also said to turn to darker powers seeking stranger abilities. They are quite willing to be ruthless in their goals, carrying out assassinations and the like to undermine the power of the Draconic Masters in Oulm'Aki, although they are not blind to the suffering of slaves of other races they still tend to prioritise freeing their own people
The Sleepless Dreamers A group of former supporters of the old king of Meshant, Uzi'Isbi'Imi, who have fled into the deep desert along with the bones of the dead Brass Dragon. Since then they have been trying to find a way to bring her back to life or perhaps unlife. So far they have yet to be successful but in order to continue their work in that desolate place many have successfully turned themselves undead and raised undead servants. The old King was probably a better person than the current Ukrik'Azahim'Mli, if a less capable general, but the means that their followers would go to to return them are... disturbing.
The Cult of Kamosh Another internal rebellion group but this one largely led by humans. Focused around a secret religious movement focused around the dragon slaying god Kamosh they blame a lot of the woes of the world on the Dragons and their servants, their vision of liberation has little room for Dragons, Dragonborn, Kobolds and the worship of the Draconic gods in any area they may manage to liberate. The local cult is eager to rebel in Oulm'Aki and take control of it but at the present will need more resources or more allies to do so.
The Naram League As the name suggests this is a small group of villages and a town who are roughly organised around an alliance to a young copper dragon Naram'Dalu. These settlements are organised in a small ridgeline of hills much to the east where slightly higher rains and something of an aquifer allows them to survive in an area that is arid but a little more liveable than the surrounding desert. Their remoteness and small size has meant Meshant has generally had bigger fish to fry but both sides well know that they may one day turn on them and try to conquer them. Currently they have an awkward relationship with Meshant where they are willing to pay a small, largely symbolic tribute to the great city in order to secure their peace and a trade. Naram'Dalu is much less intentionally brutal than some of the draconic kings but this local lord would still much rather spend his time partying than dedicating himself to working hard to benefit his people.
The Yamna An nomadic tribe come from across the mountains that were driven south by bad weather increasing competition for resources in the far north a few years ago, the Yamna are a group forged around an orc core but they care more for strength than for lineage, any who prove their capability may join the tribe and as such they have a fair few people from other races mixed into their group. In recent years the Yamna spent some time providing mercenaries for Meshant, but two years ago during a difficult campaign against rival cities in the south their relationship shattered, both sides claimed the other more or less betrayed them. Now the broader tribe has been scattered into its component familial groups, many of which have come to this region with their carts looking for pasture for their cattle during the wetter parts of the year. With the drier season approaching though the future of the tribe is yet to be decided, will they be united under a new leader or remain scattered, will they try to return to the steppe beyond the mountains, will they try to carve out a place here by force with raiding and seizing land, will the establish relationships with local powers through trade, alliance and mercenary work to ensure they have means to keep their cattle from starving.
The following are more minor factions, they will probably only come up under certain circumstances, i'm less likely to create hooks to allow players to actually join them with their purpose more to be mainly either possible allies for a faction the PCs might join or factions mainly there to be antagonists.
Clan Jerahmal A dwarven mountain clan north the local region, the closest such of the clans that dot the mountains and jungle hills. They have no love for the dragons and heir servants and feel a certain kinship towards their cousins enslaved and otherwise oppressed by the whip of Meshant, despite some considerable religious differences, but it is likely to take a fair amount of persuading to get them to leave their fortified settlements in the hills and mountain and march upon the plains. Many in the towns and cities view the mountain clans as terrible isolated and superstitious, given their aversion to arcane arts and culture of ritual cleanliness, but their access to iron is both shrouded in mystery much envied and sort after given the lowlanders can only work meteoric iron. I'm debating whether to have some goliath either folded in as part of the clan's structure or as a separate but allied group in the same general region.
An-Nesa The marshy lake near Ouim'Aki in the wet season is a maze of reeds, deep channels of water and banks of mud. In the dry season it still retains a degree of folliage due to soil moisture but much less is navigable by boat, land navigation is still difficult as many areas have only a thin layer of hardened material baked on the surface which can break to reveal much softer mud and silt beneath. Half submerged in this is the ruins of an old settlement called Nesa, its inhabitants, the An-Nesa are a tribe of lizardfolk primarily (and a small number of those such as black dragonborn), they are known to hunt and fish in the area, as well as sometimes carry out a basic form of flood agriculture, but the An-Nesa are well known to often supplement this with raiding and piracy, which they seem to consider much the same as hunting, often targeting shipments that might contain food and fishing boats, not afraid to eat those they have slain to. Meshant would like to see these destroyed, or at least beaten back until they are no longer so great a threat. The marsh has made it somewhat difficult but the forces of Meshant would certainly consider operations to kill and enslave the lizardfolk when the chance arises.
Halfling Merchants River halflings are well known across much of this part of the continent and the bands of water traders and land caravans they use are well known in this region for their work. While some may regard them as not entirely trustworthy they do represent an extremely useful middleman for many groups, willing to buy goods from a party and sell them on to people who might have serious trust issues dealing directly. Their capability at navigation and willingness to take the risks involved in such journeys allows for a certain risk reward benefit for them to.
Araxes Serving as possible ally for the Hatussa these will probably only come up if the players choose to ally with Hatussa and seek allies or perhaps the odd random encounter with them. The Araxes are a loose group of Aarakocra in he region, they are known to travel long distances as the seasons change, largely practicing a hunter gatherer life style while the rains keep the low lands richer in resources they may well remain to exploit them before returning much further north as they steadily dry out in the coming months. In many regards they have a spirit not unlike the Hatussa in their love for freedom and willingness to act in a fluid and flexible manner, as such they may well serve as valuable allies should the Hatussa decide to go for a major attempt at waging a war in the area.
The Kukan Another faction that will probably be mainly just antagonists. They are a tribal group of goblins living in the east of the region not so far from the league of Naram although some smaller groups are well known to come west seeking chances to raid and the like. Their relationship with Meshant is particularly poor, they largely regard the goblins as pests who are barely people and will kill or enslave any they find without hesitation. Their relationship with other factions is perhaps not as immediately antagonistic but few have much love for them given the Kukan have a reputation for treachery and cruelty.

2023.05.28 21:04 Still_Performance_39 An Introduction to Terran Zoology – Chapter 13

Credit to u/SpacePaladin15 for the NOP Universe.
I was really looking forward to writing this and couldn’t help myself from getting stuck right back in after the last chapter. So, here it is, Dr MacEwan’s reaction to first contact with the Yotul and what he learns about Exterminators.
[First] [Previous]
Memory transcription subject: Dr Bernard MacEwan, Professor of Zoology
Date [standardised human time]: 22nd August 2136
Madness, utter madness! That was the only way any of what I was reading could be described. The last fifty minutes had passed me by at blinding speed as I poured through data packet after data packet, attempting to verify every piece of information my class had shared with me.
Much to my frustration, what little was available to me was proving to be woefully inadequate. While my status as a teacher in the exchange programme gave me greater access than most, the UN was still in the habit of heavily vetting what knowledge was free for public consumption. No doubt an overreaction in the wake of the initial press releases during first contact.
I swear, the moment it got out that there were sapient eating genocidal reptiles in the galaxy, the number of doomsday prophets skyrocketed. Not to mention the fact that the rest of the galaxy fears us for our diet and eye position, that didn’t go down well. Speaking of the Federation…
Everything concerning first contact between the Federation and the Yotul had alarm bells ringing in my head.
God, did none of these hundreds of civilisations create their own version of the Prime Directive? Fictional in our case perhaps, but still, none of them!?
Considering the war with the Arxur, and the rationale my class had provided me, I could see why the Federation viewed their actions as morally in the right. They discovered the Yotul, an herbivorous species that wasn’t technologically developed enough to defend itself from the existential threat of the Arxur, and they opted to defend them from said threat. If that had been all they had done then I wouldn’t be as concerned. The problem was they hadn’t stopped at identify, observe, and protect from a distance. Instead, they had apparently just waltzed right on down into the Yotul’s homes, replacing everything they deemed outdated without a second thought!
A wave of revulsion had washed over me as I drew parallels between the Federations actions and our own history of colonialism. Hearing my class speak about it had only made the disgust grow. It was as if they viewed these acts like they were a god given blessing upon wayward souls! There was a near reverence in some of their voices.
How many of the Yotul’s achievements were simply tossed aside and scrapped, deemed as obsolete and worthless? How many centuries of scientific advancement were discarded in an instant as primitive?
Primitive… a typically benign adjective twisted into an insult towards a species that had world shaking change forced upon them without consideration for what they could’ve gone on to do alone.
Were they even given a choice? I’d not heard the phrases, “They asked” or “It was requested by” or anything to that affect when my class had talked me through the history of first contact.
No… no all they’d said was, “The Federation did this” or “The Federation did that”.
How could an advanced group of species who prided themselves so highly on their collective empathy remain so blind to the paradoxical impact and fallout of their actions?
Robbing a civilisation of the chance to ascend to the stars on their own power by doing it for them, only to then spit on them for not having done it themselves. Such cruel absurdity.

Perhaps I was being too hasty in my condemnation? This was all just my own speculation based off of a brief and extremely broad strokes discussion of the topic. My data searches hadn’t yielded any first hand accounts of the experience, just generic reports that recounted in bland detail what I’d already been told.
My next report home will certainly include a scathing review of this damnable vetting process!
As for the class, they were all experts on planetary ecology, not historians or specialists in interstellar politics and events. Maybe they simply failed to include something in their overview of events? I could be viewing this in a far worse light than it actually was due to having an incomplete picture. Perhaps I was allowing humanities own history to unfairly smear the Federation?
I’ll need to gather more information. Was there a historian with our delegation? I should find out and contact them as soon as possible, ask them if any of the data packages they received can shed some light on this.
Oh! I should put in a request to meet with a Yotul! There have to be some on Venlil Prime. They might be open to giving me an account from their perspective.
This wasn’t my topic of expertise but I couldn’t do nothing while this cloud of unease hung in the air around me. I’ll make use of my free time to look into this. Hopefully this is all just a huge misunderstanding on my part.
I sincerely hope that’s the case.

The other thing though… there was no way to misconstrue that.
Exterminators.
When they’d first been brought up, I linked them to the hypotheses my colleagues and I had come up upon learning how the Venlil reacted to humans.
The Federation and its members, spurred on by fear and desperation, culled whatever they viewed as predatory wherever they went. We’d reasoned that this could only have been caused by their centuries of suffered trauma at the claws of the Arxur. Their desire to feel safe from predators outweighing rational thought, resulting in an overzealous drive to keep the numbers of such animals as low as possible.
We couldn’t have been further from the true, horrifying reality.
Unlike the UN, the Venlil government was much laxer in restricting what could and couldn’t be shared between species. It only took seconds to find what I was looking for. An overview of the Exterminators. Their purpose, responsibilities, history, notable actions and achievements, everything was on display and what a terrifying display it was.
For centuries, prior to contact with the Arxur, every species in the Federation had been engaging in the wholesale slaughter of any animal they perceived as predatory and the Exterminators were the frontline in this “Noble Crusade” against the evil taint of predation.
Ripped that one straight from an introductory pamphlet.
Equipped with a veritable war chest of incendiary weapons that the Geneva Conventions would’ve banned on sight, Exterminators had a presence upon every planet the Federation laid claim to. They burned away anything they saw as a threat with reckless abandon, and they were proud of it.
Such brutality…
Every piece of literature I came across contained some form of admiration of self-congratulatory gratification for the work they did. Hailed as a bulwark against the ever present threat of predators, they were lifted up as a symbol for citizens to aspire to.
To me, they seemed nought but monsters!
I found myself spiralling as the same questions I’d considered a little over a month ago began screaming in my mind once more.
How could this have happened? Why do hundreds of supposedly advanced species actively pursue the extinction of countless animal species because they eat meat? What damage could they have caused to their own worlds by removing predators from their ecosystems?
… Is this why the biodiversity of Federation worlds is so low compared to Earth?
My heart dropped into my stomach as the realisation drenched me in a cold sweat. Trophic cascade… on a planetary level. Across hundreds of worlds.
I felt numb.

I needed more information. This can’t possibly be due to them being herbivores acting on an extreme protective instinct, can it? No that’s ludicrous, they’re not animals, they posses higher reasoning and thought process like humans. Their technological and social development shows that… But then why is their ecological understanding so backwards!? What happened to possess them with the need, no, the desire to exterminate meat eaters on the idea that they’re evil incarnate?
Much to my chagrin, I was once again hit with wall after wall of blank search results as I attempted to probe deeper into the ecological impact these actions had upon Venlil Prime.
There’s nothing! Not even a hint of recognition that removing part of the food chain can have dire consequences for an ecosystem. There must be someone I can ask, someone who could explain it to me, someone who-
Oh! Bernard, you damn fool, of course there’s someone you can ask! There’s a whole room of experts at your fingertips.
For a moment my heart swelled with relief at the thought, but quick as it came on, hollow numbness once again brought me crashing down.
I could ask them to explain, but what answer would I get? A rationale, evidence based response that alleviates my concern or at least provides context to their actions that I’m missing? Or will I receive a disappointing, “Duh they’re predators, ergo their bad”?
Considering their collective admiration for these barbaric pyromaniacs, and the work they do, I fear I will play audience to the latter. Commonly held belief is not so easy to separate yourself from when something new comes knocking. It doesn’t matter how much evidence you have, many will be reluctant to change their mind, sometimes to the point of aggression, perceiving the new way of thinking as a repudiation of themselves as individuals.
I imagine they will be quite happy to tell me everything I wish to know about their ecological sciences. However, if my aim is not only to teach them about Earths ecology, but also to coax them into re-examining their own understanding, then I’ll need to be cautious moving forward. If they really are similar to humans, then making them feel like I’m attacking the foundations of their science, as well as their very moral beliefs regarding predators, could turn nasty very quickly.
I’m hardly Galileo defending the movement of the Earth around the Sun, but considering the people who may object to my teachings wield flamethrowers I might be at greater risk.
Gallows humour aside, I would have to take it slow. Perhaps the best option would be to continue introducing them to animals for now. Keep them with the herbivores and steadily move them towards the other end of the scale. It might be best to sprinkle in a few nods to the more unappealing truths regrading herbivores as well.
The idea that prey acted in harmonious collectivism while predators didn’t was something I’d have to contend with eventually. I may as well keep softening them up to the concept in the same way I introduced the Roe Deer and the Rabbits. Yes, yes this could work. It would be slow, but at the very least the Venlil in class seemed open to listening to what I had to say.
If I did this right, perhaps they could begin to see the world from my perspective, realise for themselves that their understanding and actions are flawed, maybe then they’d see past their predator and prey binary. Maybe they’d start to see us, see me, as a person first and not a predator.

A beep from my pad drew my attention, an alarm to inform me I had five minutes left of my break.
With a groaning sigh I stood from my desk and collected it, along with my mask and cane, straightening myself out before I returned to the classroom. I could already hear the chatter of my audience members as they seated themselves, ready for the second half of the day.
Were they excited? Curious? Amused?
Could any of them be here to treat me the same way the Federation had treated the Yotul? A “benevolent” hand reaching down to lift us to their way of thinking, only to ridicule us for being wrong in their eyes!?
Slow down, don’t get heated. Breathe.
Shaking in frustration I took in a deep breath, holding it for a few seconds before letting it out in a shuddering yet cathartic exhale.
Maybe. Maybe there are a few in the crowd who feel that way but not all. There’s proof of that for sure.
My mind drew me to my short but incredibly pleasant time with Rysel. The inquisitive Venlil had been enchanted with what he’d seen and, despite his outburst, had been open to looking at things from a different point of view to what he was comfortable with. There was no malicious arrogance there, not a drop of the dismissive bullheadedness I’d spent the last hour worrying about. Just a genuine curiosity and adoration for animals. Not to mention, aside from the scruffy tan young man who helped me after my accident, he was the only Venlil to not only approach me but talk with and get to know me. Every minute of our after dinner chat had been an absolute delight.
When he’d asked me to remove my mask I’d been terrified. Terrified that my new friend might bolt at the sight of my uncovered face. That my “predatory” eyes might scare him into a panic, as it had done with so many of the ill fortuned exchange partners. But to my joyous surprise, the most magical of things had happened instead. He hadn’t run, he hadn’t screamed, he wasn’t even slightly frazzled at the sight of me.
He’d made me laugh by acting as if he was greeting me for the first time. We’d both laughed in fact, his charming whistles of elation still ringing in my memory. And, he’d made me tear up.
Who would’ve thought at my age that being accepted by someone would fill my heart so much.

As I stood in the doorway, waiting for the final moment before my return to tick by, I recalled one other line from the Exterminators introduction pamphlet.
“Many of the Venlil Prime Exterminators come from other worlds within the Federation in order to aid our planet in defending against predators. As well as promoting cross species collaboration, it is also an effort to better protect the Venlil, as they are one of the weaker races within the Federation.”
“Weak”, “Primitive”. I’ll have to find a Federation dictionary and look up the word empathy. Make sure they haven’t replaced it with irony by mistake.
Preparing to enter the lecture theatre I secured my mask, comparing Rysel’s actions so far with that lacklustre depiction of the Venlil I’d grown fond of.
As the timer to my entrance ticked down, the red light having gone out seconds ago, I smirked under the mask and voiced my thoughts aloud.
“Weak my ass.”
The door opened.

The 50 Best Video Games of the Atari Era

Want to see the best games before this era? Check out this list which was compiled by Reddit users' nominations and votes over an entire year:
https://www.reddit.com/retrogaming/comments/o4drau/best_video_games_of_the_atari_era_poll_final/

What You Can Do:

  1. Vote in the poll to determine the 100th best NES/Master System Era game!
  2. That's it! No nominations in the comments section, as this is the last round.

What You Can Nominate:

Exceptions:

In general, the original year published takes precedence. No games that played betteare more iconic/are more remembered in an earlier or later era.
"Sonic the Hedgehog" was released for Sega Master System, but as a port, it was made for the Sega Genesis, so it is not eligible for this poll.
"Tetris" made its biggest impact with 35 million copies sold for the Game Boy, in the next era, so it is not eligible for this poll.
Arcade ports like the original "Mario Bros.", which hit arcades in 1983 are not eligible for this poll, even though they were ported to home consoles from the next generation.
1984's coin-op “Punch-Out!!”, was more iconic/more remembered as 1987's “Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!” on the NES, which is now eligible for this poll.
Instances like this can be debated. I think it's best to allow all games from a console to be designated to one era, and for games to appear in one era poll only.

Other Nominated Games From Last Round:

Last round 53 people voted in the poll and 1 new games were nominated in the comments section.

The Idea:

Comparing, say, Pong and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, is not useful. It's like arguing which is better: the Ford Model T or the Space Shuttle? But comparing games of their era is interesting and fun! Usually, best game polls are limited to a single system. This poll is unique because it includes all platforms from the era together. How will the best arcade, computer and Master System games compete with the best that Nintendo had to offer? It will be interesting!

Why Only Arcade and Computer Games from 1985-1988?

The 3rd Generation of home consoles launched in the West with the NES in 1985 and changed everything. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive launched in 1989, began the 4th generation of home consoles which will begin the era for the next series of polls after this concludes.

The Criteria:

I'll leave it up to the individual to decide. Innovation, quality, influence, iconic status, how much fun it was then, how it holds up today, are all valid. Whatever games you love, whatever games you want to see named as the greatest of the era.

What Happens Next:

After the poll closes in a week, the winner of the poll will be named the 100th best video game of the NES/Master System Era. At that point I would like to continue from the NES/Master System Era to the SNES/Genesis/TG-16 Era, for a new set of polls.
This will be a poll I hope to hold every week for a long time! Have fun everyone!

2023.05.28 20:56 Cultural_Estimate_90 Expansion Idea: Journey to the Center of Azeroth (Jules Verne inspired set)

So like many Hearthstone players, I also play the game that inspired it, World of Warcraft. Currently, the game has players exploring an underground area called the Zaralek Caverns, which include a new and cute mole-like race called the Niffen. Then, remembering Deepholm and another ground-dwelling race called the Drogbar, a bunch of ideas came to me in the form of a new expansion idea: Journey to the Center of Azeroth.
Since the idea (and the name) is based on the work of the great author, Jules Verne, I decided it should be inspired and themed after his work. And so this is the basic story idea:
Plot: Many secrets still lay underneath the surface of Azeroth, both great riches and dangerous secrets. Come join the legendary writer and amateur explorer, Joles Burns, as he takes his specially modified mole machine and digs deeper into Azeroth than anyone has before! He will not stop until he reaches the center of the planet! But will his expedition lead to untold treasures...or horrifying terrors that should not have been disturbed...?
Joles Burns will be a Dark Iron Dwarf and the MC of the expansion and a likely solo adventure. He can be a shaman potrait hero, but I see him also as a legendary neutral card. Which brings up the special new term introduced to this expansion: Collaspe
Jole Burns: Legendary. (Neutral) 7/8. 8-Mana. Battlecry: Collapse. three slots of your choosing for 3 turns. Entrance Quote: I am a dark iron dwarf and I DIGGY DIGGY A HOLE!!! (Reference to the Windrose song)
Collapse is a new mechanic I thought of that gives players the ability to manipulate the playing field itself. The targets are monster slots (Emptied or occupied), secrets, quests, multiple-turn spells (like the Alterac Valley spells), and even hero powers. When a slot is collasped, it can not be used (effects like spell damage for being out get nullified), have its effects activated (secrets remain unable to be triggered), or be progressed (quests can't be fufilled until collaspe ends). You may choose your own field or the opponents. Now all collapse effects have a timer, but can be ended up earlier by giving up one mana to "dig it up". This can never be lowered or effected by mana cost, so it becomes a matter of stragety (do you give up mana to get it out back but possibly run out before your full stragety works or do you save mana while waiting for it to end?) To counter this, there can be a neutral monster card or two can that dig up slots (all slots at once, so like if its three mana and you have four slots, it'd only cost you three mana instead of four)
The monsters and cards can be themed around the underground areas such as Deepholm, Neltharion's Lair, and the Caverns. We can see niffen, drogbar, elementals, and maybe even bring back the Kobolds.
Now here's the card themes I thought of for each class:
1: Death Knight. Mushrooms. I thought this would be a funny idea, as part of the Titan research faciulty that would be part of the solo storyline, that all the natural fauna were experimented on...and turned out horribly wrong. Mushrooms grow on dead things, and the magic infused into them could relate to blood, frost, and undeath (think fungus zombies!)
2: Demon Hunter. Underground demons. This was a tough one, but I came up with the idea that demons long ago tried opening a portal to Azeroth and got stuck in the center of the earth instead. They are slightly berserk after centuries of being able to find their way back out.
3: Druid. Giant plants of the jungle area. In Journey to the Center of the Earth, there was a major area that was a monstrous jungle filled with dinosaurs and various monsters. And one big thing were the giant man-eating plants, so i thought that should be the druid's theme here.
4: Hunter. Giant underground beasts. These would be the same giant beasts of the jungle area. True, not very original for hunter, but most of their themes revolve around using animals like the wow class. We could have dinosaurs and giant worms for an example.
5: Mage. Lava area. I thought of this for the shaman or warrior originally, but better ideas for them came to me. Instead, I thought this would be good for the mage, focusing around fire elementals, monsters, and spells.
6: Paladin. Titanic constructs. Since many titan constructs use the light as a weapon similar to paladins, I thought this would be their theme here. Part of the story involves the underground titan faciulty Joles Burns discovers, and so would be fitting here.
7: Priest. Crystal monsters. Crystals were often believed to have healing and mystic powers, and naturally amplify light. So I thought crystal constructs and beasts would be good for the priest here.
8: Rogue. The Niffen. These guys are small, but sneaky, so I thought they'd match with the naturally stealthy rogue. Their spell cards could involve their odor-based warfare as rogue tools (such as stink bombs and explosives).
9: Shaman. Therazane and the earth elementals. This was easy to decide on after thinking about it slightly. They naturally work with the shaman's abilities and Therazane herself can be a legendary for the shaman.
10: Warlock. Fel-infected. Going back to the demon theme of the Demon Hunter, I thought in their madness, they left fel wounds all over the underground and it infected the creatures and citizens here. So you can expect fel-influenced drogbar, sniffen, and even kobolds ("NO TAKE GREEN CANDLE!!!") The legendary here can be Totswaggle, who returns after finding a strange and beautiful fel-flamed candle that messes with his already screwy mind.
11: Warrior. The Drogbar. A race of uber-chads obessed with pumping iron and building muscle? Sounds perfect for a muscle-focused class like the warrior! Here's a weapon I thought of that could be fun.
Buff-U Weight. 1/4. (5 mana). Deathrattle: Give your hero 1 attack permantely if used at least four times previously (so no cheating by switch weapons or breaking your own weapon otherwise. No cheating on the road to fitness!)
One of the legendaries here could be Dargrul, who was the king of the Drogbar in Highmountain, until the adventurers of Azeroth killed him in Neltharion's Lair as its final boss. His entrance or battle quote could be: "THE MOUNTAIN WILL GNAW AT YOUR BONES!!!" (A line he screams during the fight for one of his attacks)
So do you guys think this would be a fun expansion? Feel free to comment and add your own ideas.
