2023.06.03 14:07 Big-Bag-7504 Lessons you've learned
Myself and my partner are pretty new to the whole THS thing and are planning to attempt to use it for some nice places to stay when we spend a few months in other countries. (Notably the US since we're in the UK) We live in an area of the UK where there are a lot of older, wealthy people with large country houses so we've applied for a few and are currently on our 3rd sit.
We've learned a few things in that time and wondered if others had any lessons they've learned after they actually started doing sits.
For one, it seems you really have to pay attention to photos and can't really trust them, the house can look really clean and tidy and they can list a weekly cleaner, etc, but, you still turn up to find a filthy house that has been cleaned with a wet rag. Look at the levels of clutter, it seems like people with a lot of clutter also don't really look after their living spaces.
People with large country houses seem to have terrible guest room setups. 2 out of 3 sits have had the worst mattresses I've ever seen, practically bare springs.
Don't take on more than you can chew... We just completed a sit with 4 dogs, 2 cats, chickens, and exotics. The pets were wonderful and we actually miss them, but looking after them properly was a full-time job. Owners seem to believe their pets are easy to look after, because they do it every day, discounting the work that goes into someone new jumping in to do it, and the pet's behavior changes due to them not being there. (One of the unneutered cats just loved spraying around the house!) - The homeowner was thrilled with how well we'd done but then acted totally offended when we said we wouldn't be able to sit for her again due to the sheer amount of work it was.
Really ask questions before you start and get a feel for the homeowner and their level of respect or gratitude for you. This 3rd sit is for a single elderly dog, but the homeowner is just incredibly rude, to the point that she seems to act like she's doing us a favor by letting us live here and look after her dog... The house is a mess to the point she left half-eaten cake and half-drunk wine on the side of her literally filthy kitchen, then texted us asking us to bring the washing in. It's also one of those with those bare spring mattresses. (She's also locked the door to half the house, including the downstairs bathroom in an obvious sign of mistrust... You'll trust us with your baby, but not half your house?) If it weren't for our love of animals and need for a good review we'd have just left. Lady, we own our own home an hour's drive away with a lovely bed and no filth where we prepare food.
What other people consider usable working space may not be what you do. I have a sweet WFH job so travel with a large laptop, external screen, peripherals, etc. None of the sits has had a good enough chair... I've had to buy lumbar support pillows, seat cushions, wrist rests, etc, and strap them to dining chairs.
Take enough non-perishable food for a couple of days, you might be busy getting settled in before you get a chance to go shopping, and homeowners all have differing ideas about what they're happy for you to eat/drink or if they'll even have space in the fridge for you to store food. Also, bring your own tea/coffee maybe even sugar. I also bring my own travel mug.

2023.06.03 12:00 ScaredOfTicks Tips for sleeping in a small tent?
I recently got a 2 person tent from decathlon in preparation for a cycling tour later this year. This tent turned out to be rather small, I’m 6 feet and just about fit inside it on a 190x70cm/ 75x 27.5 inch air matress with about 30cm/ 12 inches room left on each side that’s mostly used to store my paniers and other belongings.
All this means that i can’t really sleep in my usual sleeping position (arms and feet spread out in random angles and kinda on my side and/or stomach) and need to lay straight on my back with my hands on my stomach or on my stomache with my head angled 90 degrees to the side.
I’ve been sleeping for 3 days on my tent now and so far still have problems falling asleep and wake up multiple times at night.
Do you guys have any tips on how to improve sleep or do i just have to tough it out until my body gets used to it? Getting a bigger tent and/ or mattress is not an option unfortunately…

2023.06.03 08:27 Drippiethripie Does anyone else think it’s a little off that Adnan bragged about breaking the rules while he was incarcerated?
I mean, I get that he didn’t strangle anyone else. But he did tell SK on Serial that he had a contraband cell phone for 5 years, he talked about how he tried to call T-Mobile and they told him to go to the nearest T-Mobile store if he needed assistance. He laughed, knowing that was not happening, and SK giggled along with him. I think it was Rabia’s book (I didn’t read it) that detailed his side business of making photocopies and printing documents that generated 10k over an 8 year time frame.
What are we doing here? These folks are clearly trying to shed a positive light on Adnan. Do they really think that continuing this pattern of him being aware of the rules, but his hubris and charming personality allow him to operate above the law?
So all these awards he got for good behavior while incarcerated were based on showing up on time every day for his food service job?
Once he was caught with this cell phone, he was transferred to Supermax Prison in Cumberland and subsequently did not have access to his cell phone any longer. I’m not sure if the infraction was the reason for the transfer, but it seemed to be the end of this ’marriage’ that was not at all a marriage in any legal sense. And supposedly this 10k he generated with this prison side business was the dowry he paid to his wife’s family.
What is that all about? I mean, I’ve never been to prison but from what I understand the inmates use a barter system or maybe have folks on the outside deposit money into their commissary so they can get more chips, or smokes or whatever. Are we really talking about Adnan rolling with 10k under his mattress? And we are to believe that he is following some religious protocol so he can talk to this girl on the phone?
Apparently if this is true, once he was 2 hours away and only accesible by pay phone, that was the end of that relationship. The baffling part is that Adnan and his fan base put these stories out into the universe to make him look good. I mean, I get that he’s living his life and trying to make the best of the situation. I just don’t know why this stuff is part of his marketing campaign. Are we supposed to be impressed that his ability to deceive people has carried on— even behind bars?
I guess if you’re going to brag about manipulating the system in prison, it’s not that far off to laugh about giving Young Lee notice on a Friday afternoon for a Monday hearing and then get the case vacated and make sure the appeal is moot.

2023.06.03 02:53 MsTortilla Anyone have any experience with the store "Furniture Land Ohio & mattresses"? + any recommendations?
I was trying to do some research for furniture places. I came across a place called Furniture Land Ohio & mattresses. They have their own store front and online website.
I noticed they sell (or resell?) A lot of sets / individual pieces from Ashley Furniture for a fraction of the cost. I wanted to ask if this is trustworthy and if anyone had any experiences purchasing furniture from there. It does look very enticing. Is it a good place to buy bedroom sets and couches or any other furniture?
I am open to hearing any other recommendations as well.
Thank you very much!

The allegations regarding health code violations in the 5/31/2023 Reddit post are completely false. Once Upon a Time in France has not and will never serve roadkill to customers. We wish to clarify several of the allegations in the post directly: · There was an accident with a previous sous chef concerning a steak that fell on the floor. His actions were unacceptable and management addressed the incident directly with the sous chef as soon as they were made aware of the incident. The sous chef no longer works at Once Upon a Time in France. · The video of the insects is the result of an infestation of a piece of food (exterior from our restaurant) that was left by accident in our outside storage unit by a member of our team and was cleaned as soon as it was seen. No other incident of the sort has ever happened in nearly 4 years of operation. We are routinely inspected by the TN Department of Health. Finally, Once Upon a Time in France contracts with a pest control company to routinely maintain the restaurant. Once Upon a Time in France opened for business in East Nashville in December 2019 by Melvil Arnt and his family and has since served over 78,000 customers.
We have earned a reputation as a friendly small neighborhood bistro that is French family owned and operated and serves authentic traditional French food. Once Upon a Time in France is an establishment that is recognized for the quality of its service and menu offerings resulting in Once Upon a Time in France being voted Best New Bistro in the Nashville Scene’s Best of Nashville 2020 and Best Restaurant in Nashville 2022.
In an effort to not cause further trauma to the original poster, the only comment Once Upon a Time in France wishes to make is that all of the allegations concerning sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct are factually incorrect.
Once Upon a Time in France encourages the original poster and individual to email Once Upon a Time in France’s legal representative as indicated below.
If you have been a loyal customer, if you had a great experience at our restaurant and recognize it for being a genuine and safe neighborhood bistro please continue to support us.

2023.06.02 22:41 Strange-Ad5999 Did tempurpedic scam me? Is there anything I can do about it?
2 months ago I decided to go into a TP flagship store and the salesman there was super convincing. I am having severe buyers remorse because I opted for one of the most expensive beds possible. Totaling at roughly $11,000 and I do not see any of the value. I thought they were the most popular brand out there that my sleep quality was garbage and I just wanted to know what it was like to have the best bed and see if it helped. Long story short, there a minimal difference between TP and my amazon basics king size I bought for $500. When I went to talk about getting the base returned because I do not see any benefit of zero G or raising the head/feet and the vibration was nice but when I saw that the base was $6,000 of the cost I lost my shit. $6,000 and the best feature is my bed vibrates and they call it a "massage". The rep I spoke to at the store told me nothing about a "no refund policy". You can exchange the mattress within 90 days to find something that fits you personally but you only get 1 exhange... they offer like 20 different mattresses but you can only get a re-do once, for a 10 thousand dollar purchase. So much for making sure the customer is happy. I called about this and they told me there is nothing they can do and refused to continue the topic outright ignoring me when I continued about my issue just referring to the one time exchange I can still do. Now to be honest, the mattress is not that bad, I would love to find one I like and actually keep it, the overpriced base is the problem.
So yeah I get I signed for it and everything but is this not a really shitty practice? Can I even threaten with a lawyer or file for anything?
I'm 6 weeks into having the thing and they are saying I'm trapped with the 4 years of payments for something I do not want because it did not deliver on any of there sale points and I feel very mislead. I too often find myself being this gullible.

2023.06.02 22:33 BlondeOnBicycle Car camping with bikes
Hiya! Where would you go hybrid cabike camping?
I hate being in a car but I appreciate the convenience of car camping - strap the bikes to the car, bring a comfy mattress and tall tent, have animal-proof food storage, and there's little risk of the car flipping over if we run to it in dangerous weather. Then when I've set up my palatial tent, strung up my hammock, and put the pop-up around the picnic table, I love biking to the beach or to dinner in town or to the grocery store and never touching the car except to arrive and leave. Also ideally not super swampy places full of mosquitoes or horseflies. Where to, folks?

2023.06.02 21:16 chnky18 Are we making a mistake with wrong firmness level?
My wife and got a tempurpedic pro-adapt in medium firmness with adjustable base. It's been 2 weeks and so far my wife is miserable. Part of it is we have not found the right head/feet level to sleep at. We didn't do split king since it was so much more but she likes to sleep on stomach sometimes and I am an only side sleeper. We are both around 240# each. The test in stores said to go with firm but we thought that was way too hard. Salesman said mattress in store are worn in to give an idea of what it will feel like down the road. My wife feels like the medium is too hard and is talking about going with the soft. Will we regret this decision based on our weight?

So, hurricane season has just begun and at our training/safety/whatever meeting today I brought up that fact and that it might be good optics for the company to get an extra pallet of water to be able to distribute in the event of a hurricane. Everyone laughed at me. My boss said that he would rather have a weapons locker to keep people away.
After the meeting a coworker started giving me extra shit about it. Meanwhile that individual drinks out of a cup that has a local "celebrity" on it. A guy by the name of "Mattress Mack." 2023.06.02 16:29 perceivewithcaution I just made $9 stretch and got every household item on my list!
I start a new job on Monday, but til my first check, I only had $9 to get basic things I needed for my new apartment. I’ve been homeless for 7 years so I moved in with just a twin mattress lol since then I put together furniture, curtains, and my landlords bought me a brand new full sized bed up off the floor. It’s even got a sheet and a blanket now!
Today I got hand soap for my bathroom, dish soap, laundry soap (how do I use Zote though, I’m scared!), three rolls of toilet paper and even a roll of 12 trash bags.
I went to the store with $9 to my name, I was trying to choose which two items I needed the most. But I decided to slow down, use my phones calculator, looked at all my choices, and even though I had to put a roll of toilet paper back (.58 cents lol), I got everything on my list.
I carried it all home in my arms since they are charging for bags now, so I skipped that extra charge and got hand soap instead. I don’t have any guests over ever, but I like the smell of autumn leaves and treated myself to indulge my curiosity lol
I do not care if I looked goofy with my three rolls on the bus, I felt like a rockstar. Because I remember having to use my socks, or a leaf. And folks, no.
I am so happy and grateful today. These items, to me, are finishing touches on a home I struggled so hard to earn.
And guess what? The cherry on top? My Zote is freakin PINK. I am a thrifty goddess. Thank you. :)

2023.06.02 15:55 noriiuwu chrysalide des cieux
nopony asked for this but i remastered an old story to be in equestria!!! starring my OCs ofc 🤭🤭
It was a cold January day, and the clocks were striking twelve. Victor Arsenault, his dewy, juniper eyes drifting to the emerald chrysalis, washed with the soft winter light. The reflecting colours of the junebug green cocoon danced joyfully as if yearning for all the pleasures of Spring. Its divine yet modest glow pined for the fresh strawberries, tea sandwiches, and cakes of afternoon teas enveloped in the warm April air.
“Chrysalide Des Cieux, huh…” he mumbled to himself.
As his rough hooves stroked through his grizzled mane and he gazed deeply into his green visage, he let out a bitter sigh. A chrysalis from the heavens… it has brought me nothing but prosperity yet guilt plagues my heart when I lose myself in its celestial charms. Though the verdant cocoon’s ethereal radiance rivalled the garden of Eden, traces of villainy slithered under each layer. As Victor levitated the pupa and tucked it in his vest, he heaved himself from his bureau and drifted his attention to the snow-covered garth outside his lunette window. The sky donned her crystal-white gown that morning, the drapes kissing the grounds of Equestria. He ambled to the door, the withered wooden planks creaked under each trot he took and as he set hoof outside, the brisk air caressed his cheeks. Meek blackcaps serenaded the delights of Winter as they rested on mistletoe branches, the berries bunched like drops of ruby. The newly clothed trees rose like white fairy tails in that wintry scenery, for the grey clouds had bequeathed a bounty of snow.
As the snow crunched under his hooves, a choreographed ballet conducted by the light blew over the opal clearing danced under the light. Soft soughs of the wind mingled with the distant cries of torment. As Victor toiled onward, the cries grew louder and the billows of snow drenched in carnelian and the scent of iron became increasingly apparent. Right as he had intended to turn his head away, the familiarity of the scene gravitated him. Unease and terror brewed and churned in the pits of his stomach as dread swept him off his hooves. A disfigured crown, embellished with mutilated cuprite stained the marble coat garnet. “Velebeth…” Victor stifled as his husky voice trembled.
His thoughts spiralled out of control, desperately trying to uncover the cause of her passing. The mare’s delicate, porcelain coat plastered by her once opaque white nightgown, now permeated with her blood, her stiff, lifeless body strung out as if she was a lamb to the slaughter. He shook his head. She’s gone. She’s really gone… His clouded eyes darted desperately with the metronome in his chest growing faster.
The distortion of reality made anything and everything in-cohesive. The tracks of sanity have been mangled beyond recognition, littered with industrial movements and peppered with echoes of what used to be instruments. Fragments of melodies overlapped one another, fighting for the limelight which often made him ponder whether either one of those tunes really ever existed at all.
Though his heart was still beating, the essence of what made him, him, had decayed, his mind wilted and withered, leaving only a hollow husk of a stallion he once was. His eyes melted into the pool of malachite, drops of pearls welled. “What is there to live for in life? For all the respect and charity of others purely because of the occupation you fill? These professions determine lives, granting us happiness yet never fulfillment. I am guilty of the fruits they bear though, I feel no remorse or sympathy for lives lost yet when you, Velebeth…” Victor breathed. “What has become of us? How were we so blind to this? Velebeth, my love, you won’t need to wait any longer, for I shall embark on a journey to resurrect you, even if the lives of other ponies must trot to the other side in exchange.” His coarse hooves clutched the chrysalis, ripping it from its nest and shattering it. Puffs of smoke envelop his flushed face as he drags the disfigured gem through the snow.
As the clouds of smoke washed over the late unicorn, her sides began rising and falling. Though a pulse was present, her mind and motion did not return. Before anypony else had stumbled upon such a crime against nature, the stallion unicorn mustered the last sliver of magic and teleported both him and the mare back to his store. As he hurriedly shut every window and closed every blind, he set Velebeth into a spare mattress, tucking her under a thick, padded quilt. While carefully kindling some firewood and piped the dwindling embers with his bellows, his sullen malachite drifted back to the mare in slumber.

2023.06.02 09:16 bedbugstore How to treat Bed Bugs if you Find in Hotel Room?
| https://preview.redd.it/bt6fgcsd2k3b1.png?width=6912&format=png&auto=webp&s=04e4ac6132a2557a5fef68c6b501edfb1e6ecd78 If you are traveling and staying in a hotel, and the next morning you feel bites, ensure your room has bed bugs. What do you do next? No one wants bed bugs, but unfortunately, the bed bugs problem in hotels increases more frequently. However, bed bugs haven’t based on cleanliness or luxury levels they are shown in small motels, and roadside motels, also sometimes they have shown in five-star hotels and resort rooms. Finding bed bugs in a hotel room can be a disturbing experience. These tiny, blood-sucking pests are notoriously difficult to eliminate and can quickly turn a pleasant trip into a nightmare. However, it’s essential to stay calm and take appropriate steps to address the situation effectively. In this blog post, we will guide you through what to do if you discover bed bugs treatment in your hotel room, empowering you to protect yourself and prevent any potential issues from escalating. What to do? Confirm the Presence of Bed Bugs: The first step is to ensure that what you’re seeing are indeed bed bugs. Adult bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed, reddish-brown in color, and have a flat, oval-shaped body. Look for them in the seams and crevices of the mattress, headboard, and nearby furniture. You may also notice small dark stains or shed skin. If you suspect bed bugs but are unsure, try capturing a specimen in a sealed plastic bag or take clear photos as evidence. Protect Your Belongings: While it’s important to prevent bed bugs from hitching a ride back home with you, avoid throwing your belongings all over the room. Instead, place your luggage in the bathroom or on a hard surface away from the bed and upholstered furniture. Bed bugs are less likely to be found in these areas. Additionally, consider using plastic bags to wrap your suitcase, providing an extra layer of protection. Inform the Hotel Staff Immediately: Once you’ve confirmed the presence of bed bugs, notify the hotel staff immediately. Remain calm and politely explain the situation, providing them with clear evidence if available. Request a room change that is not adjacent to or directly above or below the infested room, as bed bugs can easily travel through walls. Alternatively, you may choose to leave the hotel altogether and find alternative accommodation. Preserve Evidence: To protect your rights and ensure a smooth resolution, it’s essential to preserve evidence. Take photos or videos of the infestation, showing the bugs, their shed skins, and any stains or bites on your body. This evidence can be valuable if you need to file a complaint or seek compensation later on. Inspect the New Room: If the hotel offers you a different room, thoroughly inspect it before settling in. Bed bugs can quickly spread to adjacent rooms, so it’s crucial to ensure that the new accommodation is free of infestation. Check the mattress, headboard, furniture, and even the luggage rack for any signs of bed bugs. If you notice any issues, notify the hotel staff immediately and consider changing hotels if necessary. Take Preventive Measures: Whether you stay in a new room or move to a different hotel, there are a few preventive measures you can take to minimize the risk of bed bugs following you. Keep your luggage elevated and away from the bed, preferably on a luggage rack. Avoid placing your clothes or personal items on upholstered furniture, and consider using large plastic bags to store your belongings. Follow-up Actions: After your trip, take precautionary measures to ensure you haven’t brought any unwanted guests back home. Thoroughly inspect your luggage, clothing, and personal items before bringing them inside your house. Wash your clothes in hot water and dry them on high heat to kill any potential bed bugs. If you’re concerned about infestation, consider contacting a professional pest control company for assistance. Conclusion: Discovering bed bugs in a hotel room can be distressing, but it’s crucial to handle the situation calmly and effectively. By confirming the presence of bed bugs, notifying the hotel staff, protecting your belongings, and following preventive measures, you can minimize the chances of an infestation following your home. Luxury sleeper coach rentals typically offer a wide range of amenities to ensure comfort and convenience for passengers. While the specific amenities may vary depending on the rental company and the coach model, here are some common amenities you can expect:
- Sleeping quarters: Luxury sleeper coaches are designed with comfortable sleeping quarters, often featuring spacious beds or bunk beds with high-quality mattresses, pillows, and bedding. Privacy curtains or partitions may be provided for individual sleeping spaces.
- Seating and lounging areas: Apart from sleeping quarters, luxury sleeper coaches usually have comfortable seating areas with plush sofas, reclining chairs, or lounge-style seating. These areas are ideal for socializing, relaxing, or enjoying the scenic views during the journey.
- Kitchenette or galley: Many luxury sleeper coaches have a kitchenette or galley equipped with essential appliances such as a refrigerator, microwave, sink, and sometimes even a stove or cooktop. This allows passengers to prepare their meals or store and heat food and beverages.
- Bathroom facilities: Luxury sleeper coaches often feature private bathrooms with a toilet, sink, and shower. Some may even have larger bathrooms with additional amenities like a vanity, mirrored cabinets, and luxury fixtures.
- Climate control: To ensure a comfortable environment regardless of the weather, luxury sleeper coaches typically have efficient heating and air conditioning systems. Passengers can adjust the temperature to their liking for optimal comfort throughout the journey.

These vehicles often come equipped with flat-screen televisions, DVD players, surround sound systems, and sometimes even streaming services or satellite TV. Passengers can enjoy movies, music, or other media during their travels.
- Wi-Fi connectivity: To keep passengers connected, luxury sleeper coaches commonly offer Wi-Fi connectivity. This allows passengers to access the internet, check emails, browse websites, or stream content during the journey.
- Power outlets and USB ports: Convenient power outlets and USB ports are typically available throughout the coach, enabling passengers to charge their electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops, or tablets.
- Storage space: Luxury sleeper coaches provide ample storage space for luggage and personal belongings. This may include overhead compartments, under-seat storage, or dedicated closets or wardrobes.
- Safety features: Safety is a priority in luxury sleeper coaches. These vehicles are equipped with features like seat belts, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and security systems to ensure passenger well-being.

2023.06.02 07:29 FrunkusB Ex-Roommate gave my mattress and bedframe to new roommate
About a month ago, I left my apartment and moved out. My old roommate and friend of five years gave my mattress and bedframe away to the new roommate after I had left it in the apartment for a few weeks. I told him I was looking to sell it for $100.
I texted him and asked if I could swing by tomorrow to pick it up to deliver it as I was going to sell it the next day for $250. He immediately gets defensive and upset with me and says I abandoned my property and it is no longer mine and I shouldn’t have expected him to store it for me.
Legally, he may be right, but as his friend, I can’t believe he wouldn’t say a single thing about it.
Am I wrong for being upset? The mattress is just over a year old and was $600 brand new when I bought it.

2023.06.02 05:10 MidnightJ1200 I (M20) work at a convenience store in Jonesborough, Tennessee, and there’s a lady who comes in sometimes to do a 2-party sale.
Now I know it’s illegal to do a 2-party sale and this lady doesn’t have an ID on her, so she usually sends her husband or a friend or someone to go in for her after she gives them a $20 bill. She is of age, you can see the grey hairs, but it’s my understanding that unless you present a valid ID in the state of Tennessee, you can’t purchase alcohol, and buying alcohol for someone who isn’t of age is a 2-party sale, but does that apply to anyone without a valid ID or just minors?
Also she told my manager that she is allowed to do this because she has permission from the DM, and the DM did in fact say to go ahead and allow the 2-party sale.
Thing is, I know that if caught the store would lose their liquor vending license which means no alcohol period, plus fines that are way out of my price range, and loss of job, which I don’t want because I do like the job, despite some of the customers. And I think, depending on the situation, even jail time?
Basically I just want to know that if this older lady initiates the 2 party sale, is it really illegal, and is there a way I could protect myself since both my store manager and I have concerns about this.
