Hi fellows visitors in my hometown !šš Just a quick post which might be handy for commuters in Le Mans :
Local tram app:
Seek Setram on your app store (app may be switched to english)
Guidance and schedule for commuting between town and city
There are 2 lines (T1 & T2)
Main tram line leading to circuit is T1 with directions label "AntarĆØs" and you may want to stop at the line terminus "Antares Stade Marie Marvingt" This leads to the 24H east entrance.
T1 trams showing "UniversitƩ" are the opposite way getting from circuit to town.
Single ticket is 1.5 ā¬ ( one hour validity / as many trips on the network during this time)
Return ticket is 4.2 ā¬ (1 day validity / as many trips on the network during this time)
Tickets available on mostly every stop from automatic dispensers (Card and contactless payment accepted) and special booths opened at train station and Tram terminus near circuit.
Also be sure to seek and install the app "24H Le Mans Experience" which is the official guiding/Events app (Editor : SSP ACO)

TL;DR AT THE END
PREFACE: I'm likely not in the same position as a lot of you. I didn't need this part-time job. So naturally, I had more of a "I'm not taking your shit" attitude than most other people. BUT, because of that, and because of this sub in a lot of ways, I noticed some things that some of you might find valuable/interesting.
I'm going to type out some random bullet points, and try to bring this back together at the end.
What I REALLY want to do, is to sort of piggyback off the act your wage concept and take that further to the KNOW YOUR WORTH concept. There's a couple people at that gas station that really really need that job and they are GOOD people. And sometimes over the past couple months, I kind of seen your posts in their eyes if that makes any sense.
So, about this "shit I did". Let me give you an example of a conversation I had with the manager my second week there:
ME: Looks at schedule, sees 5 days on, only agreed to take the job for 2-3 days/wk max.
ME: "Uh, hey manager, what's up with the schedule?"
MANAGER: "What do you mean?"
ME: "I'm on for 5 days this week..."
MANAGER: "Ya we're short lol." (This is because of their turn over rate. I've been going to this gas station for 20 years. I've seen more new faces in that gas station in the past 3 years since they bought it compared to the past 20 years, not hyperbole.).
ME: "Not my problem. Pick 3 days, I'll work those, preferably in a row."
MANAGER: "Excuse me? These are the days you're scheduled."
ME: "Then we don't have a working relationship. I'll work 2-3 days a week, thats it. That's on my application, my resume, and was covered in the interview AND orientation. I have another job, and I'm not quitting that one. So is this going to be a problem (as I begin to take the store key off my key ring)?"
MANAGER: ".........no. WED, THURS & FRI then?"
ME: "Sure, awesome (smiles and walks away)."
She looked at me like she wanted to kill me, no joke.
So that might not sound like much at first glance. But holy crap I didn't realize the power I was wielding all because I have another job. And EVERY interaction with these people was like this.
Another example, I worked Easter (found out SAT btw). Me and the other person busted our ass all day. Busy as hell as most places where I live where closed. About 6-7 hours into the shift things calmed down and we sat on some milk crates for maybe 15-20 minutes. Next day our manager tells us we should stop standing around because they seen us last night. My response? I didn't say anything, instead I started talking to the camera saying all kinds of wild shit ie "You should put prices on this stuff because that's douchey as hell." "I can't believe it's 2023 and people out here acting like it's 1923 not giving people lunch breaks." "Yes yes I'm sitting down after 7 hours and taking a break. If you want to see what I did, watch the tape.". Just silly shit like that to troll em. I'd have employees tell me that I better not do that because they're watching and MAN could you see the fear on their face when they said it. Like it was their mom and they were 10 years old again. Pisses me off thinking about it.
Ya know what happened from all of that? Not, one, damn, thing. NOTHING was ever said to me again about the camera. Nothing.
I said I'd get to the sanitation, right? Well, it's a hub for a major delivery service. Not uncommon at all to see a packed parking lot with no free pumps from 5-8 PM. Just a bunch of delivery drivers parked behind one another waiting for a pump. Well, a whole bunch of those drivers pee in water bottles for one reason or another and throw them away in the trash cans. They leak, and so do the bins so the "piss-water" drains onto the parking lot night after night after night. And no one cleans it, no one. I'm not even going to get gas there anymore because it's fucking disgusting, and for perspective, I can see the gas station right now looking out my window. That's how close/convenient it is for me.
SO...would YOU change those liners without gloves? No? Well neither would I. And when I started taking gloves from the kitchen I was told, "Those aren't for you." I said, "Well then neither is that trash have fun lol." And ya you read that right. They make food there...
You get the gist. One last thing though, I don't mind work. I never have. I didn't slack off when I was there. It's just not in me. And I have great references, a letter of rec from the CEO of the last company I worked for for grad school (I'm a senior), and I don't mind going above and beyond. One of the people that works there is older and has trouble getting around. She walked to work. So ya, I'd clock out and give her a ride home and tell her to do things like leave the dishes I'll get them etc. And I'm no saint or anything (obviously). I'm just sayin.
I could go on and on, but I won't (I know I know I kinda did lol).
So what's different about me? Nothing, not really. I just have another job. It's all smoke screens and bullshit to keep the employees under their thumb. And nothing more.
What was happening, was people were tired of the shit and they'd call in or quit. I on the other hand knew every night I went in, I could just walk out. So, I never had a problem showing up. I never had a problem doing the job because I don't mind work. I had zero desire to make friends with the manager and her 2 friends that worked there who stared at their phones all day. I just did, not, give a shit...and I was "rewarded" for it, in a way.
Called corporate this morning to quit, they asked me to please stay. It's so strange. I would straight up talk shit about this company, to the customers, while the manager was standing right there...and they asked me to STAY...
TL;DR
I could elaborate on this a little more, but in summary, I'll say these 2 things:

I know this won't help that many people. Some of you are dealing with some really fucked up shit. Sexual harassment, it's your only job, discrimination, etc. BUT, I know there's at least a few people out there who are just easy-going, non-confrontational, and stuck between a rock and a hard place.
All I have to say to you is:
-Please see #1. And...
-KNOW YOUR WORTH. Even if it might not seem like it, YOU, HAVE, WORTH. All you need to do is believe it yourself. Your employer sure knows it I can promise you that.
These companies cannot function without someone doing their job, and they know it. It's all bullshit from greedy control freaks. If this helps just 1 person, then it was worth the hour it took to type.
And again, you kings and queens dealing with that really super messed up nonsense, good luck man. But at least, well, here's a real life story of what it looks like when someone practices what YOU'VE preached ;)

- Constant security camera surveillance (not surprising, it's a gas station). However, we'd get calls from corporate (franchise) informing us that we were standing around et cetera. Like, they actually watched it from their phones while they sat at home. They admitted inasmuch, actually. They said it was "theft prevention", but never had a scenario. Just people calling the store asking why such and such is standing around. Which leads me to...
- No lunch breaks for legal adults, not even for full-time employees (this is legal in my state). So, after working 6-7 hours you'd think it would be okay to sit down for a few minutes.
- Completely unsanitary. I'll elaborate in a moment.
- They removed the prices on everything so you can't tell how much something is until you get to the register (I think we all hate that).
- Because I'm male I was excepted to do all the heavy lifting ie trash, cooler, et cetera. And no, I'm not a misogynist. I'm just not willing to do all that because I'm a guy. The older lady that works there doesn't count. She has trouble walking. The other 3 are more than able.
- The schedule for M-F was done on SAT or SUN. Which means, a lot of times, you never knew if you had to work Monday until the day before.
- Constant bigotry from the employees. I live in Conservative Fantasy Land (incase you couldn't tell already).

Week of 29th (May)
- š Germany is, because of a second negative quarter in a row, officially in a mild recession (GDP fell by 0.3% for the last quarter). Well. On the other hand, some startups (esp. renewables) were hiring extensively last year, as the analysis of Sifted shows. To me, Helsing from the Sifted list sounds promising, but ask them if they have a product already. Careers.
- š Most of the Google/Amazon/other reviews are useless. First, a lot of them are fake and second; they can be bought, and third, they are skewed because the majority of people never review.Gergely Oroszdid an extensive analysis of Glassdoor reviews after layoffs and I think the whole thing proves the point that looking at them is useless and a waste of time.
- š© OpenAI founder Sam Altman said they might pull ChatGPT out of the EU because of the regulation shortly after he also told US regulators that AI should be regulated. I guess only his regulation is the correct regulation?
- š Instead of selling itself to Getir, Flink raised ā¬150M from existing investors (they took a haircut to the highest valuation at ā¬2.5B, now at around ā¬1B). In addition, they are letting 100 employees in HQ go and are pulling out of France after their ā¬100M Cajoo investment (š©šŖ, ā¬). - āļøBig organisations are often arrogant and inefficient. It recently happened again to Microsoft, as reported in this anecdote where Satya Nadella scolded his R&D team. Another good lesson that the size and throwing money at things often doesnāt work.
- š One of the weirdest political debates I have seen since in Berlin is around the closing of Friedrichstrasse for traffic. Now it will be open again from the 1st of July. But hey, what is the point of just closing a street without planting trees and making it much more pedestrian-friendly? They did it in many other cities, and it worked. Half-assed attempts make no sense.

In commenting on Bob Igerās defense of Disneyās values and brand in the face of threats from Florida Governor DeSantis, Nike CEO John Donahoe said, āI think Bobās doing a great job at this. If itās core to who you are and your values, then you stand up for your values.ā
That spirit has been rewarded by the free market. Across many fronts, we have shown in quantitative analysis of business performance that doing good for society is not at the expense of doing well for shareholders, with clear examples ranging from Russian business exits to public engagement on voting rights.
Yet still, grandstanding political ideologues are using opportunistic attacks on iconic U.S. enterprises to showcase their own nascent anti-ESG businesses, and reportedly build a āparallel economyā catering to conservative constituencies. But far from flourishing, an objective review of the facts suggests these anti-wokester jokesters are financially foundering.
One little-known index fund provider, the American Conservative Values ETF (ACVF), recently received a flurry of media attention for boycotting Target over what they described as its āpandering to the woke agenda,ā confidently declaring that their boycott of Target will ensure āTarget stockās long-term performance will suffer.ā
Target stock is down, but in reality, the fundās total holdings of Target amount to just $100,000āequivalent to the revenue that Target nets every 20 seconds. In fact, ACVFās total assets under management are a rather measly $40 millionāand many of their other āboycottedā companiesāincluding iconic All-American enterprises such as Apple, Microsoft, Delta Airlines, American Airlines, Disney, Walmart, Coca-Cola, Salesforce, and JPMorganāhave performed quite well since being targeted by ACVF. Delta is up 10% this year, American is up 15% this year, Microsoft and Apple are both up over 40% this year and Salesforce is up 60%. Thanks in part to missing out on these top-performing stocks, ACVF is underperforming the S&P 500 by over 2% this year through June 1. No wonder even politically conservative investors stay away from these anti-woke ETFs.
ACVFās struggles rather pale in comparison to those of its much larger and better-known rival, presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamyās Strive Asset Management. We have contacted both firms about our findings by phone and email, but their representatives directed us to figures published on their respective websites, which we checkedāand double-checked.
The business models of both Strive and ACVF are similar: They construct exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, for mom-and-pop retail investors to passively track a basket of stocks, matching rather than trying to beat the broader market. Unlike hedge funds, these ETF providers do not care if the stocks go up, down, or sidewaysārather, they get their money from fees charged on anyone who has their money in a Strive ETF. Most ETFs are very low-fee productsābut the anti-woke ETFs come at a premium. BlackRock ETFs, for example, usually charge around 0.03% fees. Striveās fees are comparatively higher at up to 0.41%ābut nothing compared to ACVFās 0.75% fee.
To survive over the long run, these nascent ETF providers need to continually attract new money from mom-and-pop investors. And that is exactly what it appears they are struggling to do. All the evidence, out in the open, shows that Strive has had a hard time attracting additional investor inflows beyond its original anchor investors after the launch of its ETFs last year. Its assets under management appear to have stagnated despite Ramaswamyās loud media presence.
For example, its largest flagship ETF, the Strive US Energy ETF (DRLL), has almost exactly the same amount of assets under management (AUM) as of June 1, $320 million, that it did when it was launched in August/September 2022, and its AUM is down nearly 25% from the start of this year.
Fully half of Striveās eight current ETF productsāincluding the Strive 1000 Growth ETF, the Strive 1000 Value ETF, the Strive 1000 Dividend Growth ETF, and the Strive Small-Cap ETFāhave less than $12 million assets under management each, which is microscopic relative to the industry standardāand less than the average compensation of a single major CEO at most companies.
Thus it is hardly surprising that some of the most admired CEOs are flippantly swatting away Striveās attempts at āactivism.ā Ramaswamy has become the court jester of corporate governance. The mere mention of his name brings anything from smirks to outright gales of laughter amongst some corporate audiences.
One hopes that Strive is not on a path to fail as badly as some of Ramaswamyās previous ventures, such as Axovant, a Ramaswamy-founded company whose stock price plunged from $200 to 40 cents, or Campus Venture Networks, Ramaswamyās much-hyped undergraduate startup which, despite his self-aggrandizement, he apparently sold for just a few thousand dollars, if his tax returns are correct. Even one of Striveās biggest financial backers, Bill Ackman, is apparently embarrassed and rushing to disavow Ramaswamy. Meanwhile, Strive is reduced to seeking āconsulting contractā handouts from friendly politicos. Perhaps this helps explain why Ramaswamy is running his longshot Presidential campaign: Nothing turns around sagging business fortunes quite like a new burst of free publicity!
It is not only in high finance that these āparallel economyā startups are flailing. Attempts to build a new alt-right media ecosystem are similarly landing with a thud.
Perhaps most infamously, Donald Trumpās much-hyped Truth Social alt-platform has imploded in value, with its SPAC packaging (ticker DWAC) shares falling from $95 to $13 even as the former president flails away on this otherwise quiet platform. Alt-right social media rivals such as Gab and GabPay are struggling to gain traction, begging for donations through crowdsourced funding, while provocateur Alex Jones and his Infowars declared bankruptcy after a record $1 billion verdict for the Sandy Hook families. More prominently, One America News has now been dropped by every major cable operator, partially driven by low audiences, while its behemoth rival Foxās struggles are just beginning after the record $787.5 million Dominion settlementāwith its board reportedly becoming weary of deviating too far from the mainstream.
Efforts to expand the alt-right parallel economy across digital services and even physical goods are running straight into the ground as well. Virtually all major retailers from Bed Bath & Beyond to Walmart to Kohlās to Costco have cut ties with Mike Lindellās MyPillow, which just months ago closed its last in-person retail mall store while losing $100 million, according to Lindell himself. Former Trump personnel director Johnny McEnteeās projectāan alt-right dating site, āThe Right Stuffāāhas been lambasted even by its core constituency, with its mostly men frustrated by the lack of women users, and its seed funding from Peter Thiel is reportedly scheduled to run out in the next few months.
To a hammer, everything looks like a nail; and the exertions of some anti-woke activists in extrapolating politicized rhetoric into the economy can stretch into caricature. Strangely, the struggles of the nationās regional banks, such as SVB, Signature, and First Republic, were superstitiously blamed on āwokeismā and the factsāthat these less diversified banks were unprepared for the Fedās interest rate hikes and that larger, equally āwokeā banks were better insulated from these interest rate swingsāwere ignored. This month, even the conservative New York Post was bewildered by the sudden ire this month of anti-wokesters targeting the privately owned, very spiritual, Christian values-guided restaurant chain Chick-fil-A because, years ago, they promoted a longstanding internal HR executive to oversee diversity and equal opportunity.
Despite positioning themselves as reverent guardians of free markets against government and social overreach, many anti-wokester jokesters seem to have forgotten the most basic requirement of capitalism: to make a profit. Ironically, the free market delivers the most condemning verdict of all. The favorite āwokeā targets of anti-ESG activists continue to soar to record economic heights, effortlessly shrugging off anti-woke attacks.
Clearly, despite all the hype and drama, there is little financial threat to mainstream business posed by the anti-woke economy. Itās not a genuine parallel economyāthese are scattered cases of ideological grifters and struggling entrepreneurs. Their real talent seems to lie in fast-talking media platforms into giving them an undeserved platform to unfairly target iconic pillars of U.S. enterprise. But as these anti-wokester jokesters struggle to gain financial traction, the numbers will continue to disprove their claims.

I recently bought a digital PS5 to use in a different room. I copied my data across and - thanks to the Sony firmware update - discs I've put in to my DISC PS5 show up on my digital PS5.

My nightmare started when I woke up on a park bench in Omaha, Nebraska. My original travel plans were much more adventurous, but most of the vacation fund dried up after the companyās CFO found me in his carā¦with his wife. Turns out she wanted to get caught, to make him jealous or something.
That is how, for reasons not totally beyond my control, I ended up summering in Omaha instead of Oahu. But hey, at least they have great fried pickles. I spent most of my time their napping, and that was what brought me to the park bench.
I woke up to a bird on my shoe. He was pecking away at the residual crumbs of what may or may not have been fried pickles.
āHey little guy,ā I said, smiling down at my visitor. He wasnāt a bird of paradise, but at least he liked me. Then the crumbs ran out, and he didnāt like me so much anymore. āFuck you, too!ā I shouted as he flew away, off to go play with some other manās heart no doubt. Just as I was about to settle back in to my midday nap, I felt my phone buzz.
Finally, I thought. Someone to talk to. I was getting sick of just swiping through my home screen pages every time I wanted to look busy, but when I pulled my iPhone out, I found something even more surprisingly than a text from a friend or loved one. It was an airdrop:

I looked around. There were people near me, but most of them werenāt young enough to know how to airdrop something, and no one was using their phone. I accepted.
āWhat the hellll?ā I let out before a chuckle. The first picture was of me, slumped over on the park bench, sleeping with my mouth open. I was instantly filled with embarrassment and wonder. On the one hand, itās pretty depressing to see yourself sleeping in an unflattering position and I had a triple chin thing going in the photo. On the other hand, I couldnāt deny that it was pretty funny.
I looked up, hoping to catch someone giggling or at least staring in my direction, but I couldnāt see anyone who gave the slightest indication that it was them. In fact, by the time I looked up, I was alone.
Weird.
The second picture wasnāt funny at all. It was all black, with a bunch of characters in what looked like Mandarin or some other Eastern language drawn on with the digital marker. A message from the sender. But I couldnāt read whatever language it was, and I didnāt know how I would go about translating it, seeing as I couldnāt just copy and paste the text, so I chose to just ignore the message, telling myself I would go to the trouble of translating it later. God, do I wish I wasnāt such a procrastinator.
The sun was setting so I stood up, took one last glance around for any hidden airdroppers, and walked back to my motel.
Later that night, I found myself hopelessly scrolling through Tinder. I realized long ago that dating apps can tell you a lot about the place youāre visiting, and I considered it part of my cultural experience to judge strangers behind a screen in my pajamas. Mostly I would just swipe my way through and laugh at the weird corn people without even considering a meet up, but every once in a while I would swipe right if I felt something. I never imagined that I would get anywhere.
Then I got another notification, and this time from someone I actually wanted to talk to. It was a girl (who looked waay out of my league) named Cristina.
āHey, Greg. If you were on a lifeboat with me, Dwayne āThe Rockā Johnson and the Queen (who was already dead at this point), who would you eat first?ā I stared at her message. It was kind of quirky, but I liked it so I texted back.
āObviously you, because I need the Rock to do all the rowing, the Queen is dead, and youāre quite the snackā¦ā I smiled, proud of my work. The CFOās wife didnāt know what she walked out on. Luckily, Cristina liked my reply as much as I did, and we struck up a nice conversation that had me copying the address to a local karaoke bar into my phone an hour later. It was only then that I began to regret my choice in vacation attire, and noticed that the bird had shat on my loafers. I ironed the only Polo I brought, threw on my sneakers and sped out.
On the way I stopped to fill up at a Chevron and went in to grab some mints (I thought about buying some banana sleeves, but that seemed a little too boastful.) When I went to pay, I dropped some change out of my wallet. Shit. The cashier, some kind of wannabe cowboy like everyone else in that city, smirked. I took a penny from the little plastic dish out of spite before leaving the store. While I was in my car, my phone buzzed. I snatched it up with excitement, assuming it was Cristina, but saw a different yet familiar name.

What the fuck? I looked around at the cars in the lot. Two others were filling up, and about four more were parked in front of the convenience store. I wondered whether someone inside the store would still be close enough to airdrop. Cautiously, I accepted.
The photo was of me bending over to pick up the change I had spilt, taken from the parking lot. I stared at it for a little while. It was funny and embarrassing just like the first one, my butt crack was even showing a little, but for some reason this photo made me uneasy. Is someone following me? I wondered. Had some influencer punk started a one-man hidden camera show where he just waited for you to do something embarrassing? I stared at the other cars.. Some of the windows were too tinted to see in. After a minute or two, I rolled out of there and drove off.
At the bar, I was relieved and elated to find that Cristina looked as good, nay, better than she did in her photos. āWow,ā I stuttered. āYouāre beautiful.ā She also said the same about me, which I chalked up to having ironed the polo. Things were off to a good start.
Throughout the date, Cristina was bubbly and adorable. She told me all about her life in rural Nebraska and what brought her to the ābig cityā, but I couldnāt pay attention to any of it. I really wish I could have, but I just couldnāt get those damn airdropped photos out of my head.
Cristina left to go to the bathroom, and I took the opportunity to look around the bar, scanning the room for any familiar faces. Everyone looked engrossed in their own evenings and dates and cringy singing, but I couldnāt shake the feeling that I was being watched.
āHey, your profile says you really like to sing,ā Cristina began with a smile. That was a fast bathroom break. āBut you never said what type of music!ā I stared at her, still a bit lost in thought, and it took a couple seconds to register what she was saying.
āOh, well I like simple boring things, really. Commercial jingles, recycling PSAās, communist propaganda, that kind of stuff.ā Cristina smiled.
āYouāreā¦youāre not a communist, right?ā
āOf course not!ā I laughed. āLetās go sing something,ā I got up from our table and offered her my hand.

I looked out across the room, dumb founded that ANONYMOUS had followed me here. I thought about showing Cristina but decided it would just worry her, and, even worse, prove her parents were right about the ābig cityā. I accepted the photo and startled backwards. My phone nearly fell to the floor. It was a photo of me at the bar, but not up on stage where it would have been easy for anyone to sneak a photo. It was from before, at our table, when I had turned to check out the other people. The worst part was that I was looking right at the mutherfucking camera!
My hand trembled. I tried to calm down. For some reason I didnāt want whoever sent the photo to know I was nervous. And I did NOT want Cristina to think that I was scared to sing Ring of Fire in front of a couple dozen famer hicks. But it was obvious from this picture that the photos werenāt just to be funny. This time, I wasnāt making any faces and my ass wasnāt showing. My face in the photo was one of concern.
How did I look right at the camera without realizing it? It struck me that the person sending these photos was going to extra lengths to remain hidden, maybe even as far as to camouflage themselves. They could be anyone, anywhere, with any sort of goal in mind. I shuttered.
The music started up and Cristina began to sing. I whipped around and looked at her. She was smiling, oblivious to the whole thing. And she looked happy. I didnāt want to spoil this moment, which was probably the only truly fun one of my vacation and the first time in a while that I was feeling some self-confidence. I began interchanging lines with her.
āI went down, down, down and the flames went higher.ā I baritoned into the mic. She winked at me. I made it through the song and asked her to get the hell out of there, to which she excitedly said yes.
On the way back to my place, I thought about telling her about the photos but didnāt want to kill the mood. Still, I couldnāt help but look through the windows of every car that we passed.
I checked the rear view mirror for the umpteenth time, and a blue pickup truck was tailing close behind us. I made a right turn, then another, and the truck stayed close behind. After a while I made two more right turns and the headlights disappeared from my rearview mirror. Phew.
āWhat are you doing?ā Cristina asked.
āHuh?ā
āYou just made four right turns. You went in a circle.ā
āOh, yeah haha. I was hoping you wouldnāt notice, I wanted to be smooth. Just made a wrong turn back there.ā Cristina nodded and reached out for my hand. I checked the rearview mirror. More headlights. Another pickup.
When we rolled into the parking lot of the motel, the truck behind us continued down the road, and I noticed it was red. I felt relieved until I pulled into my parking spot and hopped out of the car. Behind us to the right, the same blue truck from before was parked. Shit, he must have taken a quicker way over here.
How did he know where I was staying?
I put my arm over Cristinaās shoulder and rushed her into my room.
After the deed was done, Cristina promptly fell asleep (which I hoped was the sign of a job well done) and I decided to go for a walk in the parking lot. I wanted to figure out what the fuck was going on, but I didnāt want to call the police before there were any real threats or anything.
So, like every dumbass horror film victim, I went alone into the dark to investigate. I stepped out into the dark motel parking lot and eyed the truck sitting across the lot. Its headlights and grill formed an angry face that stared at me. I felt like it could read my thoughts. Leave, it said to me. Get out of here, youāll only get into trouble. The headlight eyes bore into my brain. Donāt be dumb and you wonāt get hurt-
A loud BANG came from behind me. I spun around to see a dark figure turn the corner and disappear around the back of the motel. My heart started to pound, urging me to move my legs in either a flight or fight direction.
I sprinted off towards the figure, and in moments I was turning the corner. Behind the motel, there were only tall thin trees and a formidable darkness that shielded whatever had run away from me. I paused, searching through the trees for my stalker. I squinted but couldnāt quite make anything out in the dark.
Then I heard something. Behind me. Something was...coughing.
Slowly, with my eyes first, I turned around and what I saw made my heart flutter. The sounds were coming from a dumpster, the kind usually left behind restaurants or apartment complexes that can only be moved by big semi garbage trucks. From within the dark dumpster, the head of a terrible beast with a black mask rose up. Its mouth, full of razor sharp, enamel covered fangs, clamped down onto a chicken bone with a hiss. It was a raccoon.
I laughed. There was so much pent up adrenaline in my body that I couldnāt help but convulse with the giggles. Soon tears were spilling out of my eyes and I had to lean on my knees to keep from passing out.
āYou scared the shit out of me,ā I told the raccoon, and it scampered off into the shadows. I remained there until my laughter subsided, and when it was gone I decided to stay a little while longer. It was a beautiful spot. Nebraska wasnāt that bad when you got to know it.
After a few more minutes spent collecting my thoughts and calming my nerves, I went back around the bend of my motel. I strode with new confidence towards my room, but still couldnāt resist looking over my shoulder at the blue truck in the parking lot. Is there someone in the driverās seat? I didnāt want to be paranoid, but there was no way to deny that I felt like eyes were burning into my back. I walked more quickly until I reached my door, unlocked it and slipped inside.
Acting quickly, I shut the door behind me and put in the chain lock. I felt safer in my room. That is, until I lied back down onto the bed next to Cristina.
The instant my sweaty ass made contact with the crusty bed sheets, I got a notification. A lump formed in my throat and I grabbed my phone, but paused and said a silent prayer that it would just be a message of support from my mom, or a campaign donation request, or any other useless shit besides an airdrop before checking it. But I knew what it was, and looking at the screen only confirmed it.

I gasped for oxygen. The humid air around me suddenly felt too thick to breath. I accepted the air drop and the video downloaded. It showed the door of my motel room. As I stared at the still frame, a new sense of anger rose up within me. Who the fuck was this Anonymous guy, anyway? Did he think he was scaring me? I mean, was he hoping that after seeing a few photos of myself I would send him my bank information? It was pathetic. I decided that I had done enough cowering and whimpering. I didnāt even play the video, but went to frantically jotting down a strongly worded letter in my Notes app threatening to call the police if he didnāt stop stalking me and at least tell me what he wanted. I signed off by writing;

I opened the airdrop recipients in the vicinity. Despite my newfound courage, I trembled as the airdrop recipients in my area registered on my phone. For some reason, I was afraid that ANONYMOUS would pop up. Proving he was at the motel would make the situation feel moreā¦real. Up until that point, all he had done was send me some pictures. If I sent something back to him, would he get moreā¦aggressive?
I stared at the screen, my heart beating faster than a Browning automatic could shoot hollow-point bullets into a cheap motel room. One named appeared: ANONYMOUSās iPhone. I swallowed a heavy breath. Was the air getting thicker? Slugs of sweat rolled down my face. I exhaled and sent my note to ANONYMOUS.
Shit, I thought to myself. What am I doing? I wanted to unsend it. For some reason this suddenly felt like the dumbest thing Iād ever done. I watched my screen intently. The tension was so high my heart almost sprung a leak, and I was afraid my bladder just might. Thankfully, it didnāt take very long to get a response.

It was a collection of photos. All the same photos he had sent me before. My blood boiled, and my face heated up. I work up the courage to talk to him and he just ignores me? I was starting to grow less concerned and more irritated by Anonymousās antics, but then I noticed something.
The first picture of the most recent airdrop, the one where Iām asleep on a park bench and sporting a triple chin, had a red circle on it. The kind that you draw on a picture when you want to draw attention to something, except there didnāt seem to be anything particular inside the circle. I zoomed in, and my heart dropped into my stomach. Far off in the background, in the middle of the circle, was a manās face hidden between the bushes.
He was wearing a dark hoodie that cast a shadow over his face, but zoomed in I could make out the details. He was bald, and most of his features were normal and indistinct, but his lips were curled up into an enormous hungry smile, with too many crooked yellow teeth crammed into his mouth for him to be a normal human.
His nostrils were flared, like he was breathing heavily. It gave the impression that he was almost lusting after me, like a beast stalking its prey. My blood pressure fell through the floor as I realized that he was looking straight at me. His ravenous chops wet with saliva, itching to sink his teeth into my plump, dormant flesh.
I nervously swiped to the next photo. Me in the gas station bending over to pick up my change. There was a red circle around someone standing a few yards behind me in line. It was the same man. Goosebumps popped up behind my neck and down my shoulders. Thatās when I remembered the video of me walking back to the motel room, the one I hadnāt watched.
With shaky fingers I opened the video. It was centered on the door of my motel room. For the first few seconds nothing happened. I thoroughly scanned the backgrounds and corners, making sure to search extra hard in the shadowy areas, but I couldnāt see the man anywhere.
Then he walked into center frame. This time he wasnāt hidden. He crept towards the door, his arms remaining eerily immobile as he walked, and when he got to the door, pulled a key card out and slipped inside. I gasped. When was this recorded?
That question was answered for me when a moment later I walked into frame, unlocked the door, and went in. It was from when I came back after finding the raccoon in the dumpster, less than two minutes ago.
I shivered. Suddenly, it was dawning on me that Cristinaās breathing soundedā¦different. It was just a little heavier and deeper than I remembered it being. Very slowly, I turned my head to look over at the other side of the bed and noticed that the lump under the covers seemed larger than it had before. I felt the air; it was thicker and wetter than I remembered it being and had a warm, almost metallic smell.
The body lying next to me wasnāt Cristinaās. I froze. What do I do? Dear God, what should I do now? Slowly, I sat up and pulled my legs over the side of the bed. I thought about turning the lights on, shouting for Cristina, trying to fight the stalker, but I had the gut feeling that she was beyond saving. Even if she was still alive, there was no way I could last more than a few seconds against this thing in bed with me. Whatever it was, it was built for hunting down humans and tearing them apart.
I casually mumbled ābetter take a showerā and crept over to the hall. Luckily the bathroom was right next to the front door.
Once I got in front of the bathroom door, I silently lunged for the front door, turned the lock as quietly as I could and tried to open it without making a sound. CLANG.
I stared in horror at the chain lock I had set when I came in. Idiot! I heard a rustle from the bed. The time for stealth was gone.
I yanked the chain out and swung the door open. In less than a second I was outside closing the door behind me and then bounding towards my car. I turned it on and peeled out without even checking to see whether my visitor had followed me.
I sped away from the motel towards the city and dialed 911.
At the police station, I waited for the cops to check out my room. When they came back, they asked to talk with me. I was led into the interrogation room, and they started to hit me with some accusatory questions. They said her body was ripped into pieces and strewn across the room, everywhere except the bed. Imagining myself in that room, totally oblivious to Cristinaās organs and tissue around me made me sick.
It soon became obvious that the police believed I killed her. I tried to convince them that there was someone else in my room, and told them there was video proof on my phone. I showed them the video that ANONYMOUS had sent me. They were intrigued, but still skeptical.
I was starting to get nervous that I wouldnāt return from my lame ass vacation for 10-30 years when something amazing happened.

The most disturbing part of all was a big piece of skin that had been ripped off like a sheet and laid on the bed post by my side of the bed. In the middle of the skin was what looked like a belly button. I had been lying with my head right underneath Cristinaās drying stomach leather and never had a clue.
After the camera panned around the room, it focused back on the man. He stood there for a moment, his chest rising and falling rapidly, eyes wide and hungry. Then he took a lighting quick stride forward, and the camera turned toward the door. That is where the video ends. Watching it made me fear for ANONYMOUSās safety, but I knew that he at least made it out healthy enough to make it to the police station.
Sometimes, when Iām alone and get the feeling Iām being watched, I open my airdrop options to see if ANONYMOUS is somewhere near me. I havenāt ever found him.
Earlier this morning while on the subway, I looked up and had a heart stopping shock. I was sitting at the end of one car and just happened to look through the window into the car behind us. There he was; the same creature that killed Cristina. The doors were still open and I almost took off running butā¦ he wasnāt looking at me.

His prey had headphones in and was flipping through a magazine, totally oblivious to the terrible monster sitting just a few yards away from her. I took a picture through the foggy glass.
You canāt see the creature very well in the photo. But I can always circle him. Maybe sheāll have to zoom in, and she just might need to turn her brightness up all the way, but Iāll make sure she gets the message. I have no idea how to get the photo to her without drawing the attention of the creature, but Iāll figure it out. Weāll both figure it out. Wish us luck.

That is how, for reasons not totally beyond my control, I ended up summering in Omaha instead of Oahu. But hey, at least they have great fried pickles. I spent most of my time their napping, and that was what brought me to the park bench.
I woke up to a bird on my shoe. He was pecking away at the residual crumbs of what may or may not have been fried pickles.

I looked around. There were people near me, but most of them werenāt young enough to know how to airdrop something, and no one was using their phone. I accepted.
āWhat the hellll?ā I let out before a chuckle. The first picture was of me, slumped over on the park bench, sleeping with my mouth open. I was instantly filled with embarrassment and wonder. On the one hand, itās pretty depressing to see yourself sleeping in an unflattering position and I had a triple chin thing going in the photo. The second picture wasnāt funny at all. It was all black, with a bunch of characters in what looked like Mandarin or some other Eastern language drawn on with the digital marker. A message from the sender. But I couldnāt read whatever language it was, and I didnāt know how I would go about translating it, seeing as I couldnāt just copy and paste the text, so I chose to just ignore the message, telling myself I would go to the trouble of translating it later. God, do I wish I wasnāt such a procrastinator.
The sun was setting so I stood up, took one last glance around for any hidden airdroppers, and walked back to my motel.
Then I got another notification, and this time from someone I actually wanted to talk to. It was a girl (who looked waay out of my league) named Cristina.
āHey, Greg. If you were on a lifeboat with me, Dwayne āThe Rockā Johnson and the Queen (who was already dead at this point), who would you eat first?ā I stared at her message. It was kind of quirky, but I liked it so I texted back.
āObviously you, because I need the Rock to do all the rowing, the Queen is dead, and youāre quite the snackā¦ā I smiled, proud of my work. The CFOās wife didnāt know what she walked out on. Luckily, Cristina liked my reply as much as I did, and we struck up a nice conversation that had me copying the address to a local karaoke bar into my phone an hour later. It was only then that I began to regret my choice in vacation attire, and noticed that the bird had shat on my loafers. I ironed the only Polo I brought, threw on my sneakers and sped out.
On the way I stopped to fill up at a Chevron and went in to grab some mints (I thought about buying some banana sleeves, but that seemed a little too boastful.) When I went to pay, I dropped some change out of my wallet. Shit. The cashier, some kind of wannabe cowboy like everyone else in that city, smirked. I took a penny from the little plastic dish out of spite before leaving the store. While I was in my car, my phone buzzed. I snatched it up with excitement, assuming it was Cristina, but saw a different yet familiar name.

I strode with new confidence towards my room, but still couldnāt resist looking over my shoulder at the blue truck in the parking lot. Is there someone in the driverās seat? Earlier this morning while on the subway, I looked up and had a heart stopping shock. I was sitting at the end of one car and just happened to look through the window into the car behind us. There he was; the same creature that killed Cristina. The doors were still open and I almost took off running butā¦ he wasnāt looking at me.
He was staring intently and smiling at a woman on the opposite row. Every few seconds he would lick his lips hungrily. I shuddered looking at his teeth because I couldnāt help but imagine them cutting into Cristinaās flesh, piercing through her skull and ripping her teeth out of their gums down to the root.
His prey had headphones in and was flipping through a magazine, totally oblivious to the terrible monster sitting just a few yards away from her. I took a picture through the foggy glass.
You canāt see the creature very well in the photo. But I can always circle him. Maybe sheāll have to zoom in, and she just might need to turn her brightness up all the way, but Iāll make sure she gets the message. I have no idea how to get the photo to her without drawing the attention of the creature, but Iāll figure it out. Weāll both figure it out. Wish us luck.

I'm very lucky to work from home and save a lot of expenses that way. My job is pretty low-key and quiet most of the day, so I didn't detail too much about it this week.
Edit: I forgot to mention above that J and I are not buying a house together, I'm helping him look. We really go to open houses for fun right now as he isn't thinking about buying until late this yeaearly next year. Interest rates are insane right now! I have a super low rate and am not looking forward to losing out on it some day.

- 11 a.m. Slept in since itās a holiday and enjoyed a delicious breakfast with my boyfriend (J) of some chocolate chip banana bread my mom made. We donāt tend to spend weeknights at each otherās places, so we love our weekends together.
- 12:15 p.m. J heads back to his place to meal prep for the week and do chores. Always the lover of a good cheap find, I went to Goodwill for a 25% off sale. I purchased an Adidas duffel bag, a t-shirt, some unused candles, and an expansion pack for a card game my friends and I enjoy. $35
- 1:30 p.m. One of my core lunchtime necessities as of late is hummus. But specifically the Target brand original. Plus itās cheap. I also needed other basic necessities: toothpaste, tissues, laundry items, and a prebiotic powder I take daily to control IBS symptoms. I stock up once every two months so this was a big trip. Target Circle had a coupon for one of the laundry items and $10 off on a purchase of $70 or more. $111.25
- 2:15 p.m. Back home laden with one Target bag worth over $100, I crack open my new container of hummus and make a turkey wrap with a side of carrots, an apple, and some veggie straws. I have this every day and it never gets old.
- 3:45 p.m. Watch an episode of Maid on Netflix before going to play video games online with J.
- 7:30 p.m. J and our friends hop online to play a multiplayer game for an hour or two before I jump off to eat. Chicken sausage, green beans, carrots, egg white wrap, and rice. My favorite dinner at the moment!
- 10:30 p.m. In bed and decided to start reading the monthly book club picked by J. Couldnāt put it down for a while but was asleep by 12:30 a.m.

- 7:45 a.m. Alarm goes off. Work after a 4 day weekend. Yay. Out of bed by 8:15. I work from home so I log in, check my emails, and go grab breakfast. I take my morning probiotics, vitamin D, and allergy medicine as a side to my morning blueberry bagel. After a slow morning online, I hit the exercise bike for a quick 15 minute ride. Shower, then a meeting.
- 11 a.m. Whip up my normal lunch of: turkey wrap, carrots, hummus, apple, and veggie straws. After lunch, I grab a couple of Reeseās Thins. Not as good, I know.
- 2 p.m. Work is slow today so I hop on my PC and play a few missions in my current favorite game. I have an oil change at 2 and groceries to pick up from Walmart after. At the oil change, they tell me I need to replace my wiper blades and cabin air filter. I can do that on my own and purchase the parts needed on Amazon. Car & groceries: $172.92
- 3:15 p.m. After my appointment, I hop back into my game and see some items from my Steam wishlist are on sale. I grab them as Iāve been wanting to get them for a while. $24.04
- 4 p.m. Thereās a new Spider-Man movie coming out this week that I really want to see. Mentioned to J that we should go but tickets were a bit pricey since it was opening night. He offered to pay.
- 6:30 p.m. Same as the night before. Iām out of chicken sausage now and forgot to add them to my order this morning. Oh well.
- 8:30 p.m. Watch another episode of Maid while I eat. After the temperature cooled down for the night, I went for an hour-long walk around a nearby small lake. Get hissed at by geese and dive-bombed by a red-winged blackbird. Nature is beautiful.
- 11 p.m. In bed reading Jās book club pick. Itās right up my alley and this will be a breeze to get through. Asleep by 12:45 a.m.
- Total spent: $196.96
- 7:45 a.m. My alarm goes off and I once again snooze until around 8:15. One of my cats makes her way into my room and bugs me until I get up. Turn on my work computer and go start my morning with a blueberry bagel and my medicine cocktail.
- 8:30 a.m. I jump in the shower (hair wash day) and get cleaned up to head to my monthly chiropractor appointment.
- 10:15 a.m. I pulled a muscle in my back just over a year ago and enjoyed my chiropractor visits, so I now do them monthly. This is the last time Iām going to prepay and switch to as-needed. Paid through the end of the year.
- 10:45 a.m. My chiropractor is next to a used-clothing store so I swing in. Attending a wedding at the end of June so Iāve been looking for an outfit. I donāt find one. I find others. Also a shirt for J. Everything I bought was half off! Nothing was over $7. Grabbed 4 things. $21.25
- 4:30 p.m. It was a very slow day at work, just tested some emails, so I spent a majority of the day gaming. My job goes through heavy phases and Iām in a big lull. I sign off for the day and head to the climbing gym.
- 6 p.m. After a short climbing session, my friend M and I go to an outdoor store to buy climbing harnesses. I have one but it doesnāt fit right and he has been renting one. We find the ones we want in store but see theyāre cheaper online. He has a store membership so he pays and I Venmo him back. Iām selling my old harness (only used for 2 months) to another climbing friend for $50. Almost breaking even! $3.27
- 7:15 p.m. I arrive back home and make a sandwich for dinner. Cooking seems like too much work tonight. J is at a work event tonight, otherwise we usually climb together than cook a meal after. While eating, I turn on Into the Spiderverse to prepare for the second one tomorrow. Itās still too hot for a walk so I skip that tonight.
- 9:45 p.m. After the movie I watch some Good Mythical Morning episodes Iām behind on and munch on some mini marshmallows for dessert. I prep my camera equipment for an event Iām shooting tomorrow for work. As I get ready for bed I listen to an audiobook. I read for book club for the rest of the night. Asleep around 11:30.
- Total: $24.52
- 7 a.m. I get up early as I need to be at a work event by 10 a.m. Iām photographing it so I wonāt have to work too hard. I say now.
- 9:15 a.m. I head out to be to the event a few minutes early to find street parking. The event lasts until 2, so I pay for 4 hours of parking. I could submit for reimbursement but eh, it's not much. $2.50
- 1:45 p.m. I did end up fully participating as well as photographing. We wrap early after sweating in the sun weeding and mulching for a low-income apartment complex. I head home to shower, nap, and relax. Work gave those who volunteered the rest of the afternoon off.
- 5:15 p.m. J arrives at my place after work and we head to see the new Spiderman movie. I pack us some homemade popcorn and various other treats from the pantry. Movie was 10000/10. Go see it. I knew about 45 seconds in that I wanted to see it again. Did not disappoint.
- 8:30 p.m. Despite the snacks, we are still hungry after the movie and decide to go to a local Japanese place. We go in to order and J graciously pays. When we go out, he tends to pay as I typically buy and make a fair amount of our home cooked meals. At first we were given the wrong order, which we realized when we got home. He headed back to get the right order so we got two sets of meals for the price of one! We had opened the first order to see if we liked it enough to deal but it wasnāt enough food for the both of us.
- 12:30 a.m. J stays over and we get to sleep just after midnight.

- 8 a.m. Jās alarm goes off but I sleep through it so he has to wake me up. We lounge in bed until his first meeting at 8:30. After his meeting, he leaves for work and I log on to my own. I have no meetings today and a very generous policy where we get Friday afternoonās off during the summer. I plug away at some small projects Iāve put off for most of the week and log off around 1.
- 1:30 p.m. I went to check the mail as I had 3 deliveries coming today. All arrived! My internet bill came too which I usually throw away, but had a feeling I should open this one. I was right. My bill had gone up $10 because of some new policy I didnāt know about because I hadnāt read any of the last few months of bills. I updated what I needed to to get the price lowered again and spend the next hour researching a new provider but Iām stuck for my area. Ended up purchasing a router so I can return the companyās one and save some more money monthly. $96.72
- 3 p.m. I get a random email that a medical visit from over a year ago wasnāt going to be covered by insurance. I log into my account and see if itās real, which it is, so unfortunately I pay for it. I donāt remember what the visit was for but insurance covered $0 of it. After I update my spending tracker. Thankfully it was a 3 paycheck month so Iām more than fine. Had a lot of surprising big expenses come up in May. $89
- 5:45 p.m. I leave for Jās so we can eat dinner together and watch an episode of the Last of Us (yeah, weāre a bit late on this one) before we head to the climbing gym.
- 10:30 p.m. We get back from climbing and have a craving for chocolate chip cookies. I help J make a small batch and we eat a few each. We watch the Last of Us and I fall asleep on the couch. Bed time at 12:30 a.m.

- 9:45 a.m. I slept like the dead. J wakes me up as heās on his way out to go have brunch with a friend. I slowly wake up and leave his place soon after to get my house cleaned before some friends come over.

- 2:45 p.m. They arrive! We chat and play some card games. They leave around 5, so J and I dive back into Last of Us.

- 12:30 p.m. We decided to go to a local chicken restaurant and more than ate our fill. J paid. I dropped him back at his apartment and headed to visit my parents for the afternoon.

- 5 p.m. Game time! I hop on with J and his friends and we complete some missions in our go-to game. I stop to grab a quick snack soon after, still pretty full from our big lunch.
- 8 p.m. J hops off for a break and I do as well. He calls me right after leaving the main call and we chat about our week ahead and hang out while we do our own things.
- 9 p.m. Iām feeling very tired after not sleeping well this weekend so I go to get ready for bed. I stay up on TikTok for a while and get to sleep around 11.
