Hello all:
I created an algorithm to optimize lineups for Draftkings based on Vegas odds instead of expert projections. I release,
for free, two lineups: one for GPP tournaments and one for cash games.
The early lineups are up now on Discord, and I'll post an update 30 minutes or so before roster lock if there is late line movement. Cash lineup has hit 14 of the last 19 events! Last week, both lineups smashed! GPP: 615.90. Cash: 597.01.
We're also running a Beat the Algo contest in Discord where you can submit your picks and see how you match up with the Algo picks. We're in Season One, and the winner will get some sweet MMA memorabilia. It's all for fun, come hang with us!

2023.06.03 16:10 Recent-Development10 [A Terran Space Story: Lieutenant Saga] - Chapter 118
John asks for permission, for a change, to do something unorthodox. Does he get permission? Does it work? I hope you enjoy!
The next chapter will be out on Tuesday.
Terran Space Story: The Lieutenant Saga Academy Days First Previous Next
Chapter 118: Master Escalator 1 Day Later. March 13th, 2267. 08:00 Slip Space – Captain’s Ready Room John was sitting in his chair pleading his case to Admirals Dufresne and Dickinson. He had a hard time reading the men as they both had steeled themselves to reactions. Neither man appeared happy with the situation they were in. John wasn’t responsible for the situation, but it was undoubtedly clear- he was the one that lit the match.
“Sirs, now more than ever the Icarus needs to die. We kill her and this bullshit pirate alliance ends,” John said.
“How would you presume to do this,” Admiral Dickinson said, “The Icarus isn’t going to attack you if you have battlecruiser or battleship support.”
“Give me two more cruisers and four frigates. We ought to be able to make do with that,” John said.
Admiral Dufresne was the first to show a bit of emotion, “How are you going to pull that off?”
“There’s a large pirate base in the Altair system. If Naval Intelligence data is to be believed, and frankly I have no reason to suspect otherwise, it’s their primary staging point in this sector. It’s also lightly guarded at the moment because the pirate fleet is elsewhere.”
“So, you mean to toss gasoline onto the fire,” Admiral Dickinson nodded, “That could work. It does carry a fair amount of risk though. What if the pirates attack a colony.”
“Civilian sentiment leans strongly on us but it’s a simple majority at this point,” John said, “If they attack civilians then that sentiment is pegged against them.”
“He’s not wrong. The sentiment against them will grow slowly over time if they stick to attacking military assets. And frankly, we have far more of them than we do ships to guard them,” Admiral Dufresne said, “The problem is the request for ships. We don’t have any ships to give you.”
“There are six ships in the Altair system already,” John said pointedly.
“Which are there defending the military installation located there,” Admiral Dickinson said, “What would you have us do? Shut it down and transfer the crew?”
“Yes. For an inner-core system, it’s a shithole. The pirates built this base years ago but abandoned it. They came back recently, and we’ve tolerated their presence instead of snuffing it out,” John said, “I’m also going to need several prison transports rerouted. I see four empty ones within a day and another six that could be used for the same purpose that is two days out.”
“Can you work with Lieutenant Cohen again? You came down hard on him before,” Admiral Dufresne.
“It is unexpected, but I need his help more than I dislike him as a poor captain. It seems my critique of his actions has at the very least improved his ability to captain his ship though.”
“You have a go,” Admiral Dickinson said, “If this doesn’t work out in your favor this could end very poorly for us all.”
“Then I’ll have to ensure that it doesn’t, sirs,” John saluted then before ending the communication.
He had the green light and acquired more ships. Would it be enough? Time would tell. Even with their reinforcements, there was no guarantee that it’d work. But John knew his abrasive personality would get under his enemy’s skin. At a bare minimum, this action would draw out some of the pirates.
March 15th, 2267. 01:00 Altair System – In Orbit around the moon of the second planet The pirates had not expected a fleet of Confederate ships to attack their base. In the past several months the Altair system served as a fuel stop for passing ships. Warships, of which dozens upon dozens came through the system, were there briefly and then left. The pirates were confident their reactivated base would be safe.
How wrong they were. Then again, how could the pirates predict the Confederacy to go on the attack so quickly? Their typical response was to pull back and guard, then push out. There was always time following an attack to breathe and generate momentum. This time though, that was not the case, this was not John’s way of responding to an attack.
Their base had been brutalized by orbital bombardment. All defensive weaponry, down to the last missile battery, had been utterly destroyed. There was nothing but wishful thinking preventing an assault on the base from happening. The pirate’s morale was low, but they were already prepared for an assault and had dug themselves in.
They were going to make the Confederates pay for each foot of the base they took. Heavy weapon platforms had been erected in the base’s hangars. They knew about the super-heavy power armor and were prepared for it. Or so they thought.
Leading the charge was a brash lieutenant with a somewhat bloodthirsty mood toward pirates. Even more scary, for the pirates that is, is that he was leading the charge on the base. John’s armor had been repainted pitch black. One knee pad was checkerboarded with white and red squares. His helmet was painted bronze, and its face shield had that distinctive white skull he always bore.
The Confederate attack on the enemy base didn’t go according to how the pirates presumed it would occur. Sure, they stormed the docking bays, but they did so after a team of Confederate scouts gained access to the base from a secret entrance on the surface of the moon. Those very same scouts’ mission was to disable the docking bays’ atmospheric shields. An inelegant manner of attack, but none of the pirates were wearing void suits.
Why fight a dug-in enemy when you can simply space the lot of them? Facing heavy weapons deep inside the base was unlikely. In the docking bays though? There was plenty of space to fire them without worrying about the structural integrity of the base. John’s plan was as cunning as it was ruthless.
The transport ships came in quickly and disgorged their armored cargo. Seven hundred and fifty power-armored foes began to fan out into the base. Fifty stayed behind to dismantle, or destroy, the heavy weapons and ensure the pirates don’t do anything to their rides home.
John led the charge down one corridor, “With me, we’re going to rush their central command.”
A squadron of marines, all wearing the older and diminutive suits of power armor, fell in behind John. They charged down the corridor. Unlike John, they did clear the intersections just in case. Some small arms fire came from in front of John, but the moment the pirates saw the hulking mass run towards them they bugged out quickly.
John arrived at the door to the central command of the station. It didn’t open when he pressed the console button in the frame. It also didn’t open when he smashed the button with a closed fist. That gave time for the Marines that were with him to catch up to him.
With his fingers extended John’s right hand shot forward at the point the two doors met in the middle. Both doors bent slightly inward because of the force imparted onto them. John followed that up with his left arm and forced the doors open.
No matter the number of protestations the door’s locking mechanisms gave, the Broadsword’s power was overwhelming them. The locks then succumbed to the imparted force, and the broken doors were wedged into the door frame.
John stepped inside and drew his battle rifle deftly, “Hands up, compliance or death, your choice.”
The guards on either side of the door jumped backward in shock. They immediately dropped their guns and held their hands up. Virtually everyone in the room did that save for the two men sitting at the central console.
“Last chance assholes, hands up,” one of the Marines barked.
“This is a…” the presumed leader said from his seat.
John wasted no time and fired a single round from his rifle. It was a through and through, though thankfully there wasn’t anyone else behind the man taken out as collateral damage. The man that was standing to the side of his boss looked at John, then at the console, and back at John.
“Flinch and you're dead,” John growled.
“Everyone back the fuck away from your stations,” another Marine said as he walked along the outer edge of the room to John’s left.
The second in command tensed up. John reacted almost instantaneously to the man’s action. Whether he was or wasn’t going to do something didn’t matter. In that moment the presumption was he was going to do something bad. John fired off another round. He fell backward, gasping on the ground for a few moments before his life gave out.
John walked over to the console. The self-destruction screen had been pulled up but had not yet been activated. He hovered his hand near an input port. Eve then directed the suit to connect its external cable from John’s wrist to the port.
“Eve, lock out the pirates from their systems and share with our friendlies the locations of all hostiles,” John said calmly.
“Understood,” Eve said as she was already well underway in taking control of the station.
“This Falchion Leader to all teams, the central command is ours. Tactical readouts are to be shared momentarily. Continue with mop-up operations.”
“Sir, the room is secured. All weapons have been taken from the prisoners,” the sergeant of the squad of marines said.
“Excellent,” John said as he carefully removed his helmet, “Now then, who’s going to spill the beans on what y’all are planning and doing?”
“Why should we talk to you?” one of the guards answered.
“Your choice is talking to me instead of Naval Intelligence. I’m a whole lot friendlier to deal with.”
“I doubt that you just merced both our bosses,” another pirate said.
“True, but I ain’t going to make you suffer. I at least have the decency to put you down in one shot.”
“Some comfort that is,” an older-looking man from the rear of the group said, “I’ll take my chances.”
“What can you offer me?” the youngest-looking member of the gaggle of pirates said.
“Don’t you dare tell them anything Tiffany!” huffed another one.
John made a couple of gestures to the Marines. All of the pirates were ushered into a conference room. Two of the Marines watched over them. Tiffany, the traitor pirate, looked confident standing in front of John. Perhaps too confident for John’s taste.
Her corroboration of events wasn’t actually needed. John looked at his wrist and noticed that Eve already pulled highly detailed information on the pirates’ activities. But if there was an opportunity, she really was looking for leniency, John wouldn’t overlook free intel.
“Speak, now,” John said as he loomed large over the young girl.
“This is merely a waystation. We acquire goods and ammunition for pirate vessels. We aren’t…”
“Spare me that bullshit. This isn’t just a waystation. This is home to three different pirate factions,” John hissed, “That’s your first strike. You won’t get another one.”
The young girl took a small step back. Her confidence had left her. In place of that was pure terror. She didn’t know what to do or say anymore. Her eyes darted around the room, in fact the room felt considerably smaller than it had just moments before.
“What do you want to know?” she said as she looked at the floor in shame.
“The truth,” John said before leaning down to get closer to her, “The whole truth.”
“The Alpha and Omega, Pirate Brothers, and the Void Sovereign groups used this as their base. There was an uneasy alliance between the three. None were big enough to take out all their rivals, so an odd partnership formed here.”
John turned and walked near a console, “All of this is known to me.”
“They also made this a port of call of sorts for other pirates. They were charged an arm and a leg, but it brought a steady stream of money and recruits in. When the Confederacy announced their anti-pirate actions, they shut the station down cold and we all left to parts unknown,” the girl continued to stare at the floor, “That was until the hunting appeared to have ceased. We returned and reclaimed our base. At that point, a decision was made to be less boisterous about our base.”
The girl took a deep breath before speaking again, “The Icarus came to visit. She was in rough shape. They called in favors from all three groups and began retrofitting the ship here. My group had to deal with them in the past, and some sizable debts incurred to the Icarus.”
“This is the base that retrofitted the Icarus?”
“It is, yes,” the girl said, “We acquired a retrofitting dock several years ago. We’ve done a fair amount of business using it.”
“Where are the records of this retrofit?” John asked sternly, “I presume you kept detailed records of their upgrade.”
“It should be on our mainframe, or it could be partitioned off into some secret storage. They clearly didn’t want any records of what was being done to the ship kept anywhere.”
John grinned as he turned to face the young girl, “A request your leaders clearly and flagrantly disobeyed.”
She nodded.
“Who knows where that information is?” John said as he looked at his wrist’s holographic outputs.
Eve was listening to the conversation and was already searching for the hidden data. If this story was true and a copy of it was saved it could be an amazing coup of data intelligence. That is if it were true. But the dejected look of the young girl suggested to John that she was telling the truth.
“Jamis. He’s the tall black guy with the grey beard.”
“Corporal, take her to a more secure place away from the rest of her ilk. I’ll decide what to do with her later.”
“You said…”
John raised a finger to shush her, “I promised nothing. You tried to offer me false intelligence. You and I are far from done speaking.”
“Private, bring Jamis from that room, we need to have a conversation.”
The corporal saluted John and walked over to the room. The door on the room’s right side opened. In walked another squad of marines. Their sergeant was leading the way.
“Sergeant Decker, how goes containment?”
“Fighting is contained to a single sector. The pirates there have chosen death over life. We should be completed with the operation within the hour.”
“Excellent. Begin transporting the prisoners to the ships immediately. None of the adults, irrespective of their age, are to be included with the women and children.”
“Sir, even the eighteen-year-olds? There’s a number of them…”
“Include them with the rest of the men. The courts can settle the matter of their punishment or guilt.”
“Understood,” Sergeant Decker saluted John and turned around.
“Jamis, I hear y’all had an interesting guest a while back,” John said to the tall man being held firmly in place by two marines in power armor.
“What do I get out of helping you? And what assurances do I have that you’ll hold your end of the bargain?”
“Clever strategy,” John grinned as he had Eve activate the communication systems, “Hey Mark, how’s life?”
Mark Wilhelm, John’s one-time boss at Naval Intelligence’s Miami Base appeared on screen, “What can I do for you?”
“What criminal history does a Jamis Miles, one-time Alpha Centauri citizen and current pirate affiliated with the Void Sovereign group, have?”
Mark looked down at his console. He then split the communication screen in two. Jamis’ profile appeared on the right side of the screen. A litany of crimes he had committed began to be displayed on the screen. About a third of them he had served his time successfully for but there were some pretty serious charges on the list that had not been adjudicated yet.
“Seems your bargaining position is a bit dubious. There are at least five charges that we can put you away for life,” John said.
“Thirteen actually given his age,” Mark added in his normal monotone way.
“I need a deal and assurances that you will follow through with it,” Jamis hissed back.
“What kind of deal would NI offer?” John asked.
“What are we getting in return?” Mark quipped, “You kind of brought me in mid-conversation as you normally do.”
“Ahh, that’s my bad. Supposedly detailed information on the Icarus’ most recent refit.”
Mark nodded and looked deep in thought. Jamis looked at both men’s emotionless exteriors and didn’t know what to expect. As the silence continued, the more worried and agitated, he grew. He didn’t feel comfortable in his bargaining position. More than that, he trusted none of these men at all. Especially the man in the large suit of armor. There was a callous viciousness underlying his actions that rubbed Jamis the wrong way.
“It’ll depend on…” Mark began to speak but was quickly interrupted.
“No, I get assurances on a deal before I say one goddamned thing.”
“The clock is ticking Jamis. My VI is searching for all known servers and data feeds. If I find it before you do there won’t be a deal,” John said as he turned to face a pair of Marines in the room, “On that note. Corporal, go to this man’s quarters on the station. Flip the place apart, I want every square millimeter scanned and checked for any hidden compartments.”
“Yes sir,” the corporal quickly saluted John.
He and another Marine quickly left the room. John turned to look at Jamis. He loomed large over the man.
“Tick-tock, Jamis.”
“I won’t quite be the antagonistic asshole my former associate is, but ultimately the deal we make with you is going to depend on what you have. What we glean from it is ultimately going to determine the degree of leniency you receive.”
“I want the deal in writing.”
“Which you’ll get, but you are going to have to give me something to work with so I can propose a deal. I won’t be offering any deals, and my superiors certainly won’t sign off on anything, without you telling me what intel you have. Once we receive it and it checks out to what you tell me now, then we can affirm the proposal.”
Jamis shook his head. He wanted more. So much more in fact. But he was not in a position of power. He had some leverage but not much. The concern he had was what could he bargain.
“I want to walk.”
“Not happening,” Mark replied instantly, “That’s not realistic given your checkered past. Were it not for these serious charges I could consider it. But your history warrants a prison sentence.”
“Minimum security, no hard labor. Ideally on the frontier,” Jamis said.
“If you provide us sufficiently detailed information on the Icarus, I’ll remove hard labor from your location. And super-max facilities. We will not offer more than that.”
“Five-year sentence. I want a chance to get out before I’m old and crippled,” Jamis said.
“Minimum fifteen-year sentence, with a parole hearing guaranteed after year five. NI will recommend parole at that time provided the data checks out and you have received appropriate good credit during your stay with us.”
“Three years till the hearing.”
“Five. But I’m going to defer the charging of several of the more egregious ones. If you get out and fall back into your pirate ways we’ll throw the book at you,” Mark stared down the pirate, “No matter how old you may be.”
“Make it five years on parole with a caveat that the remaining charges are expunged permanently, and I’ll agree.”
John smiled. This attack would provoke a response from the pirates. Instead of waiting, like they presumed they’d do, the Navy attacked immediately. Worse, the pirates lost an important staging ground for their attacks. And thousands of prisoners and family members were taken. This would no doubt anger the pirates, but it would also attack the morale of their fleet too.
By the end of the day, everyone would be transferred off the station. A substantial amount of stolen goods was reacquired by the Navy and shipped away to a nearby station. Farther eroding the pirates’ capabilities to wage war.
The last thing John did before they left the system, they detonated several warheads they brought over from the transports within the station. One more station was forever taken from the pirates. If they were lucky, they’d find out exactly what systems the Icarus was upgraded with. With that knowledge, they could develop an attack plan to precisely defeat the Icarus. Now they needed a bit of luck to draw that accursed ship out and engage it in a proper battle.

2023.06.03 15:47 HopeTroll Boulder Crime Coverage 1996 and old Article - Boulder's safe but lock your doors
| The Ramseys have been accused of being naive. Based on perusing 1996-era local periodicals, crimes were not being reported on unless the victim was murdered. Otherwise, the crime would only be reported on once someone was being tried for it. I'd find an article about someone being tried for intruder sa, then I'd work backwards to try to find the article that notified the community of the crime and couldn't find anything. If no one was tried for the crime of sa, it might never be reported on. Amy's mother had the pepper spray which scared off Amy's attacker, due to JonBenet's murder. (btw, pepper sprayed and jumping off the 2nd storey in the dark, he definitely got injured, not that he sought medical treatment for it.) I found a 1985 article indicating Boulder was safe, if you locked your doors. https://www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=OWL19851031-01.2.11&srpos=1&e=-------en-20--1--img-txIN%7ctxCO%7ctxTA-%22Be+aware%3b+violence%22-------2------ Be aware; violence does exist in Boulder Violent crime in Boulder seems like a rare or non-existent occurrence. The truth is that violence is as prevalent in Boulder as anywhere else, and Boulderites need to stop ignoring it with their self-righteous, shove-it-under-the-carpet attitudes. People tend to ignore crime until it affects them personally, but then it's 100 late. My father related an incident concerning a black friend of his: When he went home one day, he caught four white boys taking some things from his 'apartment. When he tried to stop them they beat him with a bat and with his radio. He fell to the floor, but they continued kicking him. He couldn't do anything. It reminded him of the Ku Klux Klan. When he finally caught his second wind, his attackers had fled. You may find it hard to believe that such an event could happen here, in Boulder. But the thing that disgusted me the most about this story is that 24 CU students watched the incident from their balconies. A neighbor even took the opportunity to steal his stereo speakers while he was being beaten up. The students didn't help. They didn't even call the police, they just stood by— dumbfounded. Afterwards they said to him, "We saw it all." O Over the summer, a friend of mine who attended college was raped in the relative safety of her own apartment. While sleeping in her bed, she was awakened by a strange man who broke into her home shining light in her eyes. She never saw his face. Another woman, whom I knew briefly, was found dead in Boulder Creek. One morning i read an article in the paper about a woman wearing a white dress found in the Creek. Later, I realized that I had talked to that same woman just the day before — I even remember the white dress that she wore. Then, I realized that I would never see her again. The cause of her death is still unknown. These are crimes that have lept from the comfortably impersonal black and white pages of the newspaper into my personal life. The crime rate in Boulder may not be comparable to the crime in the Bronx, Detroit or Los Angeles. It may not even be as high as the crime rate in Denver. But, low statistics don't mean that crime does not exist here. For those who believe Boulder to be a haven from crime and see only the safety a small city supposedly offers, stop ignoring the facts. Don't ignore the few crimes which could give our city a bad name, or make reality a little less pretty. Acknowledge these acts of crime for what they are — immoral and frightening. What can be done to prevent these scenarios from happening? Be aware! You must understand that we do not live in a crime free society. Prevent crimes from happening to other people by helping them if they need help. Prevent crimes from happening to yourselves by locking your doors. Be conscious of where you are. If you are not in a safe place, be aware of that fact. Perhaps if my father's friend had locked his door, or if the woman who had been raped had locked hers (both had been unlocked), they might have been spared. The Crimestoppers program and neighborhood watches are useful community services. Walk and ride services are offered throughout the CU campus at night. Don't take any chances walking in an unsafe area alone. It's narrow-minded to assume that a crime will always happen to the next guy, and never to you. I am not telling you to be paranoid, nor am I trying to make you nervous. I am iust telling you to stay on your guard. Don't let someone else, or yourself, be hurt by ignorance. We cannot prevent all crimes from occurring, but we don't have to make it easy for the criminals. If you never get mugged, or raped or beaten up, then you're lucky. But Lady Luck doesn't grace everyone with her presence all the time. Be aware! TF l am not telling you to be paranoid, nor am I trying to make you nervous. I am just telling you to stay on your guard. submitted by HopeTroll to JonBenet [link] [comments] |
2023.06.03 14:59 IndieFlea End of Month Minor League updates - IndieFlea's Mid-Season Prospect Rankings (Part 3)
Hey all, this is Part 3 of my Mid-Season Prospect Rankings.
Part 1 is here..
Part 2 is here. All stats are as of June 2 unless noted otherwise. Sidenote, it's weird that even stats from the past few days are changing my internal rankings, for instance Grant Anderson excelling again is really forcing my hand to squeeze him in the 50, Cam Cauley is just heating up offensively this week, forcing Top 30 consideration, and Larson Kindreich is continuing to struggle, all while still in Hickory about to turn 25 (not a good combo). Might have to a quick reordering when I'm done here.
Rankings 25-11 - 25 – Dane Acker (prev. 23) - Dane was the third piece from Oakland in the Andrus/Khris Davis trade (which also netted future All-Star catcher Jonah Heim). Acker pitched great for two starts in Down East in 2021 before immediately going down for Tommy John. He came back last year just for innings. He just rejoined Hickory a few weeks ago (coincidentally at the same time Rocker went down for his Tommy John) and has posted a 3.60 ERA in two starts, 7 Ks, 3 walks, 4 hits in 5 innings. I wouldn’t see a huge increase in his innings this year, but staying healthy in either Hickory or Frisco is really gonna be the key to him staying in the Top 30.
- 24 – Antonie Kelly (prev. 24) - Kelly was the main piece from last year’s Matt Bush trade. After struggling a bit starting in Frisco (and subsequently left off the 40-man even though he was Rule 5 eligible), he has converted to a reliever this year and improved. 26 Ks in 19 innings and a 2.84 ERA. Like most of our relievers, walks are the biggest issue (16 in 19 innings so far). He’s got a pretty good sweeper that compliments an average fastball for a reliever. That needs to be his bread and butter if he ever makes it to the majors. Seems like a candidate for the pen in 2024.
- 23 - Jonathan Ornelas (prev. 22) - Ornelas was a 3rd rounder for 2018. He’s always had a good feel of defense, being able to play multiple infield positions well. The question has always been offense. While he was decent in Frisco last year, Ornelas has not put up numbers in Round Rock, with a .678 OPS currently, although he’s getting on base mainly from his 14.9% walk rate. A guy who has a good read of the strike zone but doesn’t hit it hard, but also plays adequate defense can fit pretty well as a utility bench player. Since Johnny’s already on the 40-man, expect him to be the frontrunner for that spot next year unless he’s traded.
- 22 – Emiliano Teodo (prev. 20) - Teodo had one of the better years last year in Down East (115 Ks in 84.1 innings), and earned a spot in Hickory’s rotation, then immediately got hurt and was shelved up until two weeks ago. So far this year he’s been piggybacking with Acker, but as the two build back up to starter’s pitch counts they’ll be throwing on separate days. Teodo has a good fastball but (like most pitches) has command issues, and probably profiles as a reliever once he gets to the upper minors. Teodo was signed in 2019 for only $10,000 in the international FA class that once touted professional car driver and domestic abuser Bayron Lora.
- 21 – Gleider Figuereo (prev. 18) - Figuerero was part of the 2021 international FA class, and turns 19 at the end of the month. He’s already logged 180 plate appearances in Down East. That’s pretty good. Albeit, he currently has a .625 OPS, a 12.3% walk rate and 30.5% strikeout rate. I won’t knock him too hard since the entire team can’t hit and he’s still 18 for a few more weeks. The third baseman will need to hit to stay in this part of the list, but he’s got so much time to improve.
- 20 – Cole Winn (prev. 11) - This one hurt to put this low. Last year in one of his first starts in Round Rock, Winn took a liner off his leg and exited the game. He hasn’t been the same pitcher since, but at some point, you have to stop blaming the leg. Putting aside his ERA, Winn’s other numbers are terrible: 2.24 WHIP, 8.3 BB/9, 11.8 H/9, 8 homers in 38 innings this year. He’s got a decent strikeout rate, but that’s it. His last “good start” was April 23. Since being drafted in the first round in 2018, Winn has always had a command flag, but has still lived up to the hype. But if a prospect excels at all levels except AAA, not sure how much of it is on org development, and how much is on the player. It’s just sad, and very possible he may never make the majors. Send him to complex league or make him a reliever now, I don't even know if that will help or nor. He could fall out of the Top 30 by my next update, and he might even fall off the list by next year.
- 19 – Josh Stephan (prev. 32) - Well I’d rather talk about a fast riser instead of a fast faller. Stephan comes in with the largest jump in my rankings from previous. The undrafted FA (from 2020) had a decent 2022 logging 103.1 innings between Down East and Hickory. This year he’s made 8 “starts” (1 was bulk work), 41.1 innings and a 2.18 ERA, 43 Ks to 8 walks, and only 4 homers given up. His fastball is about average, but has a good slider with vertical movement. His grasp on command keeps Stephan’s floor pretty high. With a logjam forming in Down East, someone’s gonna need to move up to Hickory, and subsequently someone needs to go to Frisco. Stephan’s only 21 but he’s done so well this year, I think he can be challenged in Frisco at this point.
- 18 – Zak Kent (prev. 19) - a softer-tossing righty drafted in the 9th round of 2019, Kent’s been my pet prospect ever since his breakout in 2021. Last year logged 109.2 innings between Frisco and Round Rock to a tune of 110 strikeouts and combined 3.94 ERA (although he finished in Round Rock with a 1.67 ERA). He’s made one start this year so far but got hurt, letting Cody Bradford pass him on the spot start depth chart. Kent has a plus slider and cutter, and passable changeup and fastball, so a little tweaking here and there and he can be a pretty decent back end guy for a rotation. Since he’s already on the 40-man, he’d be a good candidate for the 2024 squad in either a rotation spot or relief role.
- 17 – Marc Church (prev. 21) - Church is the highest ranked reliever on my list. The 18th rounder from 2019 just arrived in Round Rock after posting 31 strikeouts in 18 innings in Frisco this year. Round Rock has come as a difficult challenge to the guy (4 earned runs in 3 appearances, although he has stuck out 9). He needs a bit of more seasoning but has great upside as a backend guy in the pen. I wouldn’t really expect him to fill that until next year, though.
- 16 – Maximo Acosta (prev. 26) - basically the only guy hitting well in Hickory this year (other than the two guys who just got moved up), Acosta is finally starting to hit his stride after missing a year in 2020 (for reasons), then injury in 2021. A .777 OPS is built mainly on good contact, but not necessarily power. He’s also a decent baserunner, having swiped 56 bags over the last two years. The top player other than Lora signed in the international FA class in 2019, Acosta is an intriguing infield prospect playing second fiddle to Acuna in terms of being blocked by position (who in turn is also blocked by Seager). Bulking up on power (which is usually the last thing to come for some hitters) will help his case for being a desired prospect. Until then, he’s likely a trade candidate for lower-value relief pitching.
- 15 – Cody Bradford (prev. 25) - Cody’s rise here is mainly based on his time killing it in Round Rock so far this year. A 0.99 ERA in 45.1 innings with only 3 homers and 14 walks given up is really good. With Kent hurt and Winn floundering, it’s no wonder the 6th rounder from 2019 was chosen to pitch two spot starts for the Rangers. Predictably the soft-tossing lefty was battered by really good major league teams that hit lefties well. His second start definitely showed improvement over the first, but he still has a ways to go before I’m comfortable with him in a major league rotation. Either way, another extended stint the major league rotation will graduate him off this list. So pre-emptive congrats to Cody, I guess.
- 14 – Mitch Bratt (prev. 15) - The pride and joy of Canada’s WBC team, Bratt was asked to face the best American major league hitters on a grand stage at age 19. It went as bad as you could imagine.. Nevertheless, Bratt bounced back to Hickory and has looked good so far. 33.1 innings, 39 Ks, 7 walks, 4 homers, 2.97 ERA. Very solid work. The 5th rounder from 2021 is one of the youngest players in High A right now, and with his average stuff, but impeccable command, his floor will keep him in conversation for a future mid to back end rotation piece for a while.
- 13 – Yeison Morrobel (prev. 17) - The top guy of the 2021 international FA has taken stateside ball pretty decently. His great defense in all positions in the outfield, good feel of the strike zone and sudden baserunning skill is fueling his 15.3% walk rate, 12 steals and .382 OBP. The power is absent though, with 2 extra base hits and .036 ISO very much deflating his OPS down to .682. But it's been an .813 OPS since May 1, so whatever. Morrobel is 19, I’m not concerned about it yet.
- 12 – Anthony Gutierrez (prev. 14) - the top guy of the 2022 international FA class has struggled offensively (.602 OPS, 4 extra BH, 6.7% walk rate) like most of his companions in Down East. Since Gutierrez is the youngest out of all of them (he will be 18 until late fall), it’s not as much of a concern. Scouting has Gutierrez ranked this high, with some calling him four-tool and with the highest ceiling of the group of international FA guys in Down East. I assume power or contact might be his missing tool, which at a certain point will become the most important.
- 11 – Thomas Saggese (prev. 13) - Saggese has always had solid numbers, but seemed to be undervalued when talking about our Frisco prospects. Scouting has all of his tool grades maxed out at 50, an average player, but I feel like he’s outperformed those. Drafted in the 5th round of 2020, Saggese has fared very well at every level. This year he’s talleyed a .791 OPS, and since the first of May he’s been at a .883 OPS. And last night he hit a game-tying grand slam for Frisco, so that's pretty cool. He’s split time between second and third but can’t play either really well. He reminds me a bit of Foscue, although I think Saggese can play them passably. Nevertheless I could see him as a second piece in a potential deadline deal. Or I could see him as an underrated corner guy.
That’s it for Part 3! I’ll get Part 4 complete tomorrow, where you’ll see a lot of the familiar prospects. Thanks for reading!

2023.06.03 13:53 arrrbooey Graduated 06/01! Diet controlled until last week and a half
Hi all this subreddit has been so helpful so I wanted to write down how things went. I'm obsessed with my little guy and so happy everything went smoothly.
I have been diet controlled with some spikes from week 28 until week 37 when my fasting numbers started to spike from mid 80s into high 90 low 100s. No one told me in the Dr office that once I was on metformin it would be recommended to be induced before my due date until it was practically week 39.
Friday before memorial weekend we were expecting a call to schedule a date to be induced but no one called back. This got me nervous all weekend haha. We actually had a last Dr appt Tuesday after memorial and finally got a call at 9:30am. We confirmed to have it done 06/01 and arrive at hospital the night before to start. At the doctor's appt, I was told I was 1cm and confirmed baby head was down. End weight gain was about 20-22 lbs and my grown scans have shown he was not a big baby or caused any concern.
Arrived at the hospital at 7:50pm to check in. I had not eaten anything for dinner yet. Got settled in and changed by 8:30 and they had me take some oral medicine (forgot what it's called) to soften my cervix. Was told I could only eat until midnight. Ate a small bowl of chicken noodle soup from Panera and a couple of snacks I brought from home. Took one last metformin as well. Sleep was kind of sporadic.
At 8:30 my delivery doctor came in and gave me the rundown and checked that I was 2cm. I was then hooked up to the IV and started pitocin. After speaking with the nurse, gauging pain, and when the anesthesialogist would come to administer the epidural, at around 9:45ish I said I needed to ask for it. Pitocin contractions felt like I was going to explode from the inside out. I had to wait for the fluid bag to empty before they could start the epidural. By the time this was done, it was maybe 11am. Pain level was like an 8-9 and all I could do was breathe and listen to directions. Finally got it done and moved to lay down and wait for it to kick in.
Wow am I thankful for it. I do not know how I would have survived labor without it. It makes me wonder if a natural labor would have felt differently. I could now finally rest and wait until I am 10cm. The adrenaline from the contractions before the epidural wore me out.
I probably was in and out of sleep until just before 3pm. Around then it felt like the contractions felt a little stronger and I thought the epidural was wearing off. Right when I said that and pinged the nurse, my doctor came in, checked my cervix and said well you're 10cm, it's go time 😂
Here is where I thank my weightlifting journey of 3-4 years. My nurse held one leg and my husband the other. To push I was told to do a deep breath, hold, and do a constant push as if needing to poop for ten seconds. Do this three times per contraction.
I did this for maybe 15 minutes with them and my nurse said I'll tell you when to stop. It's insane how much this whole induction was with just nurses. I saw my doctor for maybe 20 minutes total. Anyways they got him in for the final pushes. 15 minutes later he was out!
Immediately he was placed on my chest and I thought I was going to me more emotional, but more so relieved that it was practically over and he was crying on my chest.
I only had a minor tear probably not large enough to be classified. Was stitched up and had mom and baby skin to skin time.
The pushing was the easiest part of all of this 😭. He came to be 6lbs 8oz and 20.5". They tested his blood sugars four times over the course of a day and they all passed! Thankfully my collistrum was enough and found a method for him to feed well.
Overall just so so so relieved everything worked out and thankful for all the previous moms on Reddit writing out their experience 🥰. I'm currently eating a fat stack of pancakes with syrup, orange juice, grapes, pork sausage, and scrambled eggs. 🫡 There's light at the end of the tunnel.

2023.06.03 13:22 Genuine-asker Battery keeps dying out
I am not sure about it but I think the reason my boats keep getting dead is because of the battery. It runs about 200 seconds at most and after that the engine dies as well. Most recently the engine kept running and the dial of battery was stuck 0.01 but as soon as I shut it off, I couldn't start it back up. Am I doing something wrong or is that just how the game works?
Do I need to just add more batteries and connect them all up in some way? I tried a small generator which produced really low amount and I am not even sure that went to the battery.
Also for now my small battery runs a small engine, two small gearboxes, a rudder, four dials and three toggle buttons on is for a light

2023.06.03 13:18 RavenNevermore4 More from Bunnie's podcast with Kail
From The Ashley:
On cheating on her partners & having a “revolving door of men” in her life: “I get a lot of s**t because I do cheat, or I have cheated,” Kail said.
Kail pointed to her childhood trauma as a possible reason for her cheating, but stated that she also refuses to be unhappy in a relationship.
“I also leave if I’m not satisfied or happy and I think that people don’t like that. People don’t like that I leave,” she said. “I’m not gonna stay somewhere I’m not happy. So it does kind of look like [I have] a revolving door of men, but also I know when and when not to introduce them to my kids.
“There’s people who date all the time and they don’t get s**t for it.”
On why she almost got an abortion with her fourth son, Creed: Kail also discussed her time with Chris, which she called “by far, my most tumultuous, toxic relationship.”
“When I met Chris, it started off very toxic. I would say about six months in, I had already had a miscarriage with him. At that point, I had found out that he had two other girlfriends, full-time girlfriends. These were not side chicks. All three of us were main f**king girlfriends…I found out when I was pregnant with my son Lux. None of us knew about each other.”
Kail claimed that Chris was living with her full-time during this period.
On finding out Chris was having a baby with his other girlfriend: “That was really hard for me to learn that he was having a baby with her,” Kail said. “I had a mental breakdown that day…I called my therapist on an emergency basis and she talked me through it. I basically blacked out. I don’t even remember what the conversation was. I accepted that he was having this child and from that point forward, I never looked back.”
Kail said she hasn’t had a good relationship with Chris since.
“I’ve never hooked up with him, we don’t talk, we don’t hang out, we’re not friendly. There’s been one or two friendly times where we’ve tried to be cordial but it ultimately just goes to s**t every time. It’s hard,” she said.
On the only reason she doesn’t try to get with Chris anymore: Kail— who, earlier in the podcast, stated that she loved Chris more than she’s ever loved anyone she’s dated— admitted that she would probably still be trying to get with Chris if it wasn’t for one thing.
‘Here’s the thing: I don’t date men with kids. And if it wasn’t for that, I don’t think I would be done with him today,” she said.
On the real reasons she left ‘Teen Mom 2’: “It was a really hard decision for me but I had been really struggling with the fact that I went through such a public divorce. And then the stuff with Chris was so messy. My kids are getting older, Isaac really didn’t want to film anymore. So I was just kind of feeling like, ‘Maybe this is time for me to move on,'” she said.
“My kids didn’t want to film. I just wanted the privacy and to kind of just move on,” she added.
On whether or not she would return to a ‘Teen Mom’ show: Kail has made it clear that she is
interested in coming back to reality TV, but says it won’t be on a ‘Teen Mom’ show.
“They’ve asked me a couple times to come back, but I’m so far removed from that now that I can’t see myself going back to the show, specifically,” Kail said, although she stated that she would “absolutely” be down to star on her own reality show.
On plastic surgery: Kail also talked about the plastic surgery she’s gotten over the years, including a tummy tuck, Lipo 360 and the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) she
got live on Snapchat by Dr. Miami in 2016.
“I love plastic surgery,” Kail said. “The only regret I have is not waiting until I was done having kids. I had the Mommy Makeover after my second son and I could definitely go for another.”
One thing Kail regrets, though, is getting her BBL, which she says has not aged well.
“I don’t love [my BBL]. I want it removed immediately,” she said. “Gravity is kind of pulling it down a little bit.”
When I did the BBL and I did the Lipo 360 I wanted everything to match because I felt like, ‘I can’t have a huge butt and then have my waist be small and my arms big.’ So I had it in my arms. My butt and my arms have grown insane. But now what? I don’t know what I can do about it. Gravity pulls down your butt a little bit and it just looks crazy and I can’t find jeans that fit me.
On having even more kids: Kail has four kids currently, (and it’s been intensely speculated that
she gave birth to a fifth child by her current boyfriend
Elijah Scott around November 2022, but she’s never confirmed it). However, she said she’s willing to grow her litter even more.
“I am in a relationship now and yes [I’m open to having more kids]…[Elijah] deserves kids of his own,” she said.

2023.06.03 09:11 autotldr Cairo sandstorm turns sky orange and kills at least four
This is the best tl;dr I could make,
original reduced by 39%. (I'm a bot)
A major sandstorm on Thursday turned the sky above Cairo orange and brought a giant billboard crashing down on cars, killing one and injuring five, police and witnesses said.
There were three other fatalities caused by the storm, which created huge traffic jams in the Egyptian capital and forced authorities to close two Red Sea ports.
Police said another billboard collapsed in Cairo's satellite city of Ramadan 10th, crushing a girl to death.
In the Red Sea city of Suez, east of Cairo, a young man fell to his death when he lost his balance while watching the storm from a fourth-floor balcony.
The giant billboard that collapsed in Cairo was located on the October 6 overpass and bridge, a main artery that links the east and west banks of the Nile and snakes through the heart of the city of more than 20 million people, police said.
Police directed traffic away from the bridge, creating bumper-to-bumper traffic across much of the city centre for hours.

2023.06.03 08:06 thinkingstranger June 2, 2023
https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/june-2-2023 Three years ago today, on June 2, 2020, days after then–Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd by kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes, Martha Raddatz of ABC snapped the famous and chilling photograph of law enforcement officers in camouflage, their names and units hidden, standing in rows on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
Mr. Floyd’s murder sparked protests across the country, and Trump used those protests as a pretext to crack down on his opponents. Just the day before, after a call with Russian president Vladimir Putin, Trump told state governors on a phone call: “You have to dominate. If you don’t dominate, you’re wasting your time.... You’ve got to arrest people, you have to track people, you have to put them in jail for 10 years and you’ll never see this stuff again.” Then he used a massive police presence wielding tear gas, rubber bullets, and flash-bang explosives to clear peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters from Lafayette Square across from the White House.
Tonight, President Joe Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office to emphasize that democracy depends on bipartisanship.” [W]hen I ran for President,” he began, “I was told the days of bipartisanship were over and that Democrats and Republicans could no longer work together. But I refused to believe that, because America can never give in to that way of thinking…. [T]he only way American democracy can function is through compromise and consensus, and that’s what I worked to do as your President…to forge a bipartisan agreement where it’s possible and where it’s needed.”
While he noted that he has signed more than 350 bipartisan laws in his time in office, his major focus today was on the bipartisan budget agreement passed by the House and Senate after months of wrangling to get House Republicans to agree to lift the debt ceiling. Biden will sign it tomorrow, averting the nation’s first-ever default.
Biden characterized those threatening to force the U.S. into default as “extreme voices,” who were willing to cause a catastrophe. The economy, which continues to add jobs at a cracking pace—another 339,000 in May, according to the numbers released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor—would have been thrown into recession. As many as 8 million Americans would have lost their jobs, retirement savings would have been decimated, borrowing for everything from mortgages to government funding would have become much more expensive, and “America’s standing as the most trusted, reliable financial partner in the world would have been shattered.”
“It would have taken years to climb out of that hole,” he said.
But the extremists were sidelined, and the House Republicans and the White House reached an agreement. Biden went out of his way to praise House speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and his team, saying that the two negotiating teams “were able to get along and get things done. We were straightforward with one another, completely honest with one another, and respectful with one another. Both sides operated in good faith. Both sides kept their word.”
This was not entirely true—McCarthy constantly attacked Biden in the media—but Biden was hammering on the image of bipartisanship. Yesterday, Jonathan Lemire, Adam Cancryn, and Jennifer Haberkorn of
Politico reported that Biden and his team plan to make the case for reelection on their ability to negotiate deals that get things done for the American people, acting as the “adults in the room” in contrast to Republican extremists. The budget deal that led to the suspension of the debt ceiling is a major illustration of that position.
Biden also praised House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), claiming that “[t]hey acted responsibly and put the good of the country ahead of politics.”
The solution to the debt ceiling crisis is a major victory for Biden’s team not only because it happened, but also because it leaves Biden’s key priorities intact, not least because they are popular and Republicans did not want to go into 2024 having demanded unpopular cuts.
Biden noted that the measure will cut spending as Republicans wanted (although not necessarily through the measures they insisted on adding), but reiterated that it is the Republican Party that has been on a spending spree. “We’re all on a much more fiscally responsible course than the one I inherited when I took office,” Biden said. “When I came to office, the deficit had increased every year the previous four years. And nearly $8 trillion was added to the national debt in the last administration,” while the deficit fell by $1.7 trillion in his first two years in office.
Biden laid out that the deal protects his reworking of the U.S. economy to support ordinary Americans. It protects Social Security and Medicare, as well as healthcare and veterans’ services. It protects the investments in the economy that have enabled the country to add more than 13 million new jobs, including 800,000 jobs in manufacturing. It protects investments in addressing climate change.
Finally, Biden vowed to make the wealthy—those who earn more than $400,000 a year—pay their fair share in taxes.
“I know bipartisanship is hard and unity is hard,” he concluded, “but we can never stop trying, because in moments like this one—the ones we just faced, where the American economy and the world economy is at risk of collapsing—there is no other way.
“No matter how tough our politics gets, we need to see each other not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans. Treat each other with dignity and respect. To join forces as Americans to stop shouting, lower the temperature, and work together to pursue progress, secure prosperity, and keep the promise of America for everybody.”
What a difference three years can make.

2023.06.03 04:31 FloatingTriangles Experimental Trial 12-2 - Preview 3: Found and Lost
Though most looked tired, everyone showed up for breakfast the next day. Ow... Even Dash, who was still recovering from his injury. A good sign overall, but it was difficult for everyone to remain positive in the face of what had happened. A few tried to keep everyone’s spirits up. We can’t give up, everyone. We’re getting out of here together.
I am glad everyone is here.
It’s a good start to today. Things are gonna change!
Yeah, it’ll be okay.
Besides those words, breakfast was a quiet affair. After breakfast, there was nothing planned until lunch, and the group went their separate ways without much else to say to one another. Unfortunately, between breakfast and lunch, blood flowed once more in the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles… Just before 12 pm, in the Dining Hall…
... Kuromi sat alone in the Dining Hall. Her right hand was awkwardly covered in a bloody bandage. It didn’t take long before most of the others started heading in from the outside door. AHHHHH! T-there’s no need to scream, Mecha. It’s definitely better than it looks. I’m fine.
It’s no big deal, really. I’ll tell you what happened when more people show up.
Gross…! Five others came into the Dining Hall from the hallway door. Kuromi…! So it was your blood out there.
You all right?
I-I’m really sorry for scaring you. I just cut my hand on a prop in the Ultimate Magician Research Lab. That’s all that happened, I swear.
…I’m getting more bandages.
As Fenrir promptly headed back out of the hallway door, there was another question that needed to be asked. W-where is Melody?
... Probably still sleeping in her room…
But if you don’t believe me, I’m fine with being watched until you know that’s the truth.
As the group got lunch prepared, and as Fenrir tended to Kuromi’s hand, there was one person who left early, with a bit of bread in her hand. ... While they ate, another person had an idea to keep people safe. I propose a Casino Contest. A friendly, four-way contest.
A game to keep our minds off the troubling events of yesterday…and to keep four players safe from any plots anyone else is devising, and the mastermind. A group that large won’t be targeted.
Truthfully, I’m most curious which game in the Casino pays out the most Casino Coins in a set period of time, and I don’t want to be isolated finding out. Who’s in?
I’m in!
I can be player three.
…That’s a smart plan, Roulette. I’d like to help it succeed.
Fine. Then we’ll go immediately when we’re done here.
When lunch was over, those four in the Casino Contest left immediately, and several others quickly returned to the dorms or went elsewhere. Eventually, only Mecha, Kuromi, and Fenrir hadn’t left. … And soon, only Kuromi and Fenrir remained. …What’s your plan?
… I’m going to find a way into that Secret Room.
... No, you're not.
...! Just after 2:05 pm, in the Ultimate Detective Research Lab…
Ngh... The antidote worked…!
A-are you feeling okay?
Tut had been lying on the ground. He quickly sat up, and wiped blood off his cheek. I’ll be fine. Sorry for wasting your time on me.
Hey! What were you doing in Hotel Kumasutra in the first place?
What? I was just…in the Library. My bad…but I don’t know what you’re talking about.
…! Kanata looked at a bottle she had with her. It was Forget-Me-Not Poison. It says surviving victims will…forget the last 24 hours…
So you’re saying he doesn’t remember the last day?
... Once the girls had filled Tut in on the unfortunate events of the last 24 hours, he stood up. Then, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled something out. This is…new.
...! Ah! Once he touched the screen, a prompt quickly came up. “Do you want to unlock the Ultimate ??? Research Lab?”
2:25 pm, outside the Ultimate ??? Research Lab…
... ... Tut and Kanata had been waiting outside the door for about fifteen minutes. Then, Smile, who’d gone off to get more people to investigate the Ultimate ??? Research Lab, returned with the Casino Contest competitors and Misao. We came as fast as we could once Smile and Misao got us!
Are you all right, Tut?
…I’ll live.
Is it true, then, that you can’t remember what happened to you?
Yeah…but that’s enough about me. Once I unlock the Lab, be ready.
Okay, get behind me. I’ll go first!
When Tut pushed the “yes” option on the Bloody Monopad’s screen, Star reached out…and managed to open the Ultimate ??? Research Lab’s door. The Ultimate ??? Research Lab was a rust-colored room. Thorns and roses littered the ground, as well as swords. Cards were suspended from the ceiling, above a circular table seating what looked like sixteen chairs. A large Wall Safe was installed in the far wall. There was blood visible on the Wall Safe’s dials. Lying on the ground before the Wall Safe, in a pool of blood… …was Leaf. DING-DONG-BING-BONG! Monokuma announced that a body had been discovered, and soon, all fourteen of them were in the Ultimate ??? Research Lab. ... Even Melody, who hadn’t been seen by most since breakfast. Now that I’ve called you all here, I’m sure you’re all wondering what we’re going to do next.
Well, I’ll tell ya! You’ll be given some time to investigate what happened to poor Leaf. Then, after a certain amount of time has passed…
We’re gonna have a Class Trial. Sound good?
It did not sound good. That was the first time Monokuma had even mentioned a “Class Trial.” But they would soon be told the life-and-death stakes involved, and then would be left to investigate. After that, the deadly Class Trial to find Leaf’s killer would begin... Hopefully, the setup was enjoyable. :)
Signups for Chiaki will be held on Saturday, June 3rd, at 3 pm CDT (UTC-5).
Once we have a full cast, I'll be sure to set up a pre-trial thread.
