Very very long backstory, hmu and we can talk abt it
BUT.. What can I live w/o? Ik if I choose used tires instead of new, it should only cost $250 for 4 instead of $880 and the catalytic is only gonna cost me $699 to purchase n replace (i.e. dealership discount) so I was just going to do the catalytic, tires, and alignment for now and save the rest for later. I just don't have the money for everything rn (only 18) What should my priorities be?

2023.06.09 07:04 CarEnthusiast300 Mustang Ecoboost Premium or Honda Accord E-XL V6

I'm looking to get a car that I'll enjoy for daily driving and the weekends once I've sold mine.
I've narrowed it down to the Mustang Ecoboost Premium and the Honda Accord E-XL V6. Both cars would be in the 2016-2017 year range.
I really like the sound of the v6 in the accord and the overall tech. However, I really like the design of the mustang and have heard it's more to fun to drive.

2023.06.09 05:42 WyattJS25 1-2k RPM rattle noise

So about a month ago I started noticing a rattle noise in my 2016 Mustang EcoBoost (See videos). In one of the videos, just after a cold start, the rpm’s lower from just 1.5-1k and it shakes my entire exhaust and makes the rattle noise. In the other video it shows me revving the car, and as the rpms come back down you can hear the rattle. It happens when I’m parked and driving. It is not an issue with the mufflers, (I have already assessed them), and I have a catless DP. Does it sound like a heat shield rattle??? Or should I be more worried? The videos are linked to a tiktok.

1975 AMC Pacer Tested: A Fresh-Faced Novelty
From the Archive: A small car for people who don't think they like small cars.

https://preview.redd.it/70qhhf9oew4b1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=acc0568d214bc265c91d0a128c13e9a45cc4edeb
From the June 1975 issue of Car and Driver.

There is an excitement-generating quality about American Motors' new Pacer that calls to mind the days when we spent most of the fall frothing at Detroit's new cars as they appeared one by one in our hometown showrooms. The Pacer is lovable, and you feel an instinctive urge to take it home—like a rubber ducky, to put in your bathtub to play with. Detroit has finally issued a car to which people are reacting.

The Pacer was supposedly designed from the inside out, the theory being that claustrophobic Americans who have thus far resisted small cars with small interiors will go along with a car that is essentially an intermediate with the ends lopped off. If early indications are to be relied upon, the theory is sound. The car seems destined to sell well, if for no other reason than that the buying public seems ready for a new approach to motoring. This the Pacer is. Regarded as a beginning step in the proper direction, the Pacer is as encouraging an offering as Detroit has produced in some time.

For once, an automobile advertising campaign is telling the unvarnished truth: A large man is completely comfortable in the driver's seat or as a front-seat passenger. There is ample legroom, and were it not for the fact that your left knee comes to rest against the window crank, matters would leave little to be desired. The steering wheel is well placed and provides the driver with the proper amount of elbow crook; every control is not only within reach but also visible and readable.

The same big man can survive in a condition approaching comfort in the rear seat, too. Average-size people will find the rear seat at least as comfortable and roomy as those to be found in the new "precision-size" cars. Compared to the rear compartment of such cars as the Chevy Monza and Ford Mustang II, the Pacer appears to have the proportions of a ballroom. Headroom is the only dimension lacking, but in light of its other benefits, the rear area is still a minor triumph.

Interior finish in the Pacer is attractive, if rather utilitarian, and consists largely of molded plastic panels. The dashboard sits well away from the seats, lending reinforcement to the already considerable atmosphere of spaciousness. The front seats are large, well-proportioned, and sturdy; the rear seats, like all rear seats, are certainly not as comfortable but are more than serviceable—certainly an improvement over the average small-car rear seat. With a body area that's almost one-third glass, visibility is one of the car's strongest suits.

Looking at the innovative Pacer silhouette, it's easy to conjure up visions of scooting through traffic like a family-size Honda Civic. Sadly, this is not the case. There are two engines available in the Pacer, both inline-sixes (232 and 258 cubic inches). If you demand head-snapping acceleration, neither is equal to the task.

If, however, you are content to motor along in a sane and economical fashion, all is not lost. The Pacer will handle this kind of service easily, if unspectacularly. But it is slow enough to make it all too obvious that the fun, the outright enjoyment, its peppy appearance promises simply is not there. Certainly not with the larger engine and the Chrysler-built three-speed automatic. With this powertrain, the Pacer took 20.4 seconds to negotiate the quarter-mile, attaining a speed of only 65.8 mph.

The Pacer's steering, handling, and ride are traditionally American. Rack-and-pinion steering has been made a part of the Pacer's standard equipment, but it has been damped to the point of numbness. The car's front cross-member is damped and insulated also, both from the body and from the engine, to help lower the noise level. If ride quality concerns you, you will find the Pacer excellent. While there is admitted insulation from the road, the sensation is not at all like a wallowing full-size car with mushy suspension—it is like a good, well-ordered intermediate car.

The Pacer's handling suffers a bit from its weight (3432 pounds) and its high center of gravity, which contribute to the car's pronounced understeer in low-speed cornering. The short wheelbase and wide track do, however, aid high-speed maneuvering.

The Pacer's braking could stand improvement, again because of the car's high gravity center and heaviness. There is an alarming amount of dive under hard braking, giving you the impression that the front bumper is about to tuck under and roll up. The Pacer required 205 feet to stop from 70 mph. By comparison, a Mazda stops in 192 feet while the Mustang II, another middleweight, takes 213 feet of pavement. The car appears set up for optimum braking with a full load, which ought to be reconsidered in light of prevailing motoring habits. With too much rear brake bias, the rear wheels tend to lock. More bias on the front discs would probably help.

Here's what to consider if the Pacer personality appeals to you: You'll get a car made largely from proven components; a car that you can enter or exit without braining yourself; a car that you can sit in and see out of with ease and enjoyment; a car that is pleasing to operate and offers reasonable economy. Granted, you will not get eye-popping acceleration and sports-car handling, but you will get a car that is a new design representing a new approach to American motoring. The small car for the person who doesn't like small cars may at last be in our midst.

Where to Place my Stands?
Hi All,
I’m going to be working fully under my car for the first time, 2005 Scion xB,
I’d like to know the safest place to place my stands, both for my health and my cars,
I labeled two potentials in these pictures,
 A. The thin strip that goes the full length of the car. I’ve placed my stands here when doing brake work. But, have only ever done two stands at a time to lift either the front or back. B. The thicker piece further beneath the car. Chris Fix stood his mustang on something similar in his Clutch/Transmission videos. Is this a more balanced and structurally sound position for my stands?
Thanks!

2023.06.08 21:50 bingmyname Do I need to get new spark plugs?

I just bought a used 2020 mustang Ecoboost premium with 52.5k miles on it. It doesn't look like they ever changed the spark plugs according to the car fax and it was a rental vehicle. I'm thinking about getting spark plugs, an oil catch can and maybe an intercooler down the line as I read that those are the things that will extend the life of the car. However I don't know if the 2018+ mustangs still had the spark plug issue so I'm asking is it still necessary for these years, which plugs should I get and how much did you pay for installation services? Also recommendations for oil catch cans and pricing would be greatly appreciated as well.

2023.06.08 20:39 TheMustardTigerBAAAM 2015 Equinox LT AWD - O2 Sensor 1 engine light. Replaced O2, wont clear engine. Car starts fine, but will rumble and turn off if left in idle. NO idea what is going on.

Have a 2015 Equinox. I got an engine light with o2 sensor 1 failure after replacing the same O2 sensor at my usual local mechanic. Tested the sensor and it's not defective or anything. Around this time the car began acting weird on startup. I can turn it over just fine, but if left idling before putting into gear it will eventually, 1-2 min max, begin to rumble around and then turn off/stall. It will do the same if I immediately put it into gear (reverse/Drive) and start driving. It'll start to rumble and try to stall/turn off within the first 500ft of driving but if I slam down the accelerator once or twice it'll come back to life, rev up, and then it's perfectly fine for the rest of the drive but will do it on any start up after even if the engine is warm. IT'S VERY WEIRD. This is my 4th vehicle, first Chevy, and have never experienced this nor has my usual mechanic even seen this issue.
Could it be O2 sensor related as part of the emission system? I've checked all fuses, plugged my computer in and shows only the O2 sensor error and nothing else. Up to date on all oil changes and basic engine work. Car has 136k miles on it and I usually throw in a fuel injector cleanse every 5-10k and like to run a tank or two of E85 (Flex Fuel model) to keep everything running smooth. Other than this it's been a super reliable car. Alternator and AC compressor went on me last summer but aside from new brakes last year as well, no major issues ever and i've had it since 80k.

any suggestions would be really great. My last resort will be the dealership where I'll be charged 4x what I usually do for anytype of service including oil changes, but i'd really like this issue to be fixed. Thanks.

2023.06.08 20:31 frauenarzZzt After an exhaustive investigation that took at least the past hour, our team uncovered the real reason behind the MBTA's systemic failures, safety violations, and mismanagement at the T.

In the Winter of 2015, Boston experienced our highest snowfall totals in history, from January through February the city received several walloping storms which closed the MBTA for over a day at a time on multiple occasions.
For many commuters in Boston, this was the beginning of the rapid downfall of the MBTA. We can point to some other signs such as the underfunding of public transit, failure to have forward-thinking transit-minded policy from the Baker administration, and the backlog of maintenance efforts required, but many people point to this time period as the beginning of our beloved T's downfall. While it's nearly impossible to note all of the T's quirky safety incidents, here are a few notable ones:
2015: A runaway train leaves Braintree and travels over five miles without an operator.
In 2016, the MBTA raised fares again. They continued to offer cost-effective transportation but many commuters took safety into their own hands, as that year a commuter rail train was severely damaged in a collision with a pole at South Station and still attempted to make a trip to/from Worcester before being pulled from service mid-commute with passengers on board. --- Think about the audacity of taking a knowingly-damaged vehicle into service, and just who might do something like that.
In 2017, a "sharp increase" in deaths occurred, with 22 people losing their lives on the MBTA system in their most recent fiscal year. Trains split apart mid-journey, and it was reported that the MBTA had the most derailments in the United States. What other transportation authorities could make passengers fear for their lives, like the vehicles they're on aren't safe?
In 2018, the trend of derailments continued as the Green Line derailed 9 days into the new year, but as bus and subway fatalities stabilized, commuter rail trespass fatalities continued to increase.
In 2019, the now-infamous JFK/UMass Red Line derailment happened, damaging a switch box that to this day has not been fully fixed, and the Red Line was crippled for weeks. Three days prior the Green Line derailed at Kenmore, injuring 10, and less than two weeks later the Green Line derailed again. This was a crisis. How could a transportation system have this many derailments?
Almost fortunately for the MBTA, 2020 marked the global pandemic which decreased ridership on the T and reduced safety violations. 2021 saw train-on-train collisions on the Green Line, infrastructure problems such as the Back Bay escalator malfunction, and further train derailments (a classic).
In 2022, things got so bad that the Federal Transportation Administration (a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation) needed to step in with an oversight role. Even so, brakes and batteries on the new Orange Line trains failed. An Orange Line train caught fire which resulted in one passenger jumping off a bridge and swimming to shore. The situation became so untenable that the T had to shut down service on the entire orange line in August.
In consideration of all of this, we have one question to ask: How did it get this bad? There can be only one answer. The answer comes from within our fine city, and lies within another organization shut down by another branch of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
In 2014, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration ordered Fung Wah Bus Transportation Inc to cease operations. Fung Wah Bus was a way to get from Boston to NYC for an affordable price. However, with that came numerous and amazing safety incidents of their own, such as buses catching fire, buses 'derailing' from the highway and flipping over, and Massachusetts inspectors eventually found 'multiple structural cracks' in various parts of buses.
All of this sounds incredibly similar to safety incidents on the MBTA, and given the timeline of events and the shuttering of Fung Wah (RIP, we truly loved ye) followed by the collapse of the MBTA, we can only conclude that correlation and causality are the same thing. Therefore, it's evident that former Massachusetts Governor and world's most cringe Blink-182 fan Charlie Baker outsourced control of the MBTA to Fung Wah Bus Transportation in a desperate cost-saving measure. Now we are at a crossroads, and it seems that the only way to save our beloved T is to bring back extremely cheap and life-threatening bus service from Boston to NYC.

2023 Ford F-150 price and specs

https://preview.redd.it/jps573afqc3b1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=f305e7736e036acda22864f4e62e1fa7e6e44135
The locally remanufactured Ford F-150 is priced from $106,950 before on-road costs. It'll arrive in the third quarter of 2023

Orders for the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado-rivalling Ford F-150 pickup have now opened ahead of first arrivals in the third quarter of this year.

The F-150 range starts at $106,950 before on-road costs for the XLT SWB in Australia, and extends to $140,945 before on-roads for the Lariat LWB.

The first batch of vehicles set to be remanufactured from left- to right-hand drive is now on a boat to Australia from Dearborn, Michigan.

The F-150 will be remanufactured to right-hand drive by RMA Automotive at a facility in Mickleham, Victoria – unlike the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado, which are imported (by Ateco and GMSV, respectively) and remanufactured in right-hand drive by Walkinshaw in Clayton, Victoria.

Two trim levels will be offered in the F-150 locally, both of which can be had in either short- (3683mm) or long-wheelbase (3987mm) guise. Regardless of which length you opt for, the F-150 will feature a two-row crew cab in Australia.

Unlike its American pickup rivals with their V8 engines, the F-150 will be powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. The EcoBoost engine makes 298kW of power and 678Nm of torque, sent to all four wheels through a four-wheel drive system

With a braked towing capacity of 4500kg, the F-150 matches the Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500 when it comes to claimed heavy hauling ability.

The car will be backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, and will be sold and serviced through the Ford Australia dealer network.

Ford Australia is aware of the F-150 Hybrid, Raptor, V8, and electric Lightning options. It hasn’t ruled out bringing them Down Under, but only once the remanufacturing process is established and demand for the EcoBoost has been proven.

Pricing
2023 Ford F-150 XLT SWB: $106,950
2023 Ford F-150 XLT LWB: $107,945
2023 Ford F-150 Lariat SWB: $139,950
2023 Ford F-150 Lariat LWB: $140,945

Powertrain
The entire 2023 Ford F-150 range is powered by a 3.5-litre ‘EcoBoost’ twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 298kW of power and 678Nm of torque.

This is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with drive sent through a four-wheel drive system.

The XLT variants have a part-time four-wheel drive system with 2H, 4H, and 4L modes, whereas the Lariat variants have a full-time four-wheel drive system with a 4A mode.

This V6 EcoBoost petrol engine uses a pair of injectors per cylinder along with twin-intercooled turbochargers that’s claimed to minimise lag.

Efficiency
Ford Australia hasn’t detailed fuel economy figures for the local F-150 range.

In the US the F-150 variants with the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 and engine idle stop-start are claimed to consume 20 miles per gallon (mpg) according to EPA combined cycle testing. This equates to 11.8L/100km.

It’s unclear at this stage if the remanufactured, right-hand drive F-150s sold locally will have engine idle stop-start, nor what the fuel tank size will be. In the US it’s available with either a 98L tank as standard and a 136L long-range tank as an option.

Dimensions
The 2023 Ford F-150 range is available exclusive in four-door Crew Cab guise with either a short-wheelbase (SWB) or long-wheelbase (LWB) body styles.

The F-150 SWB has a wheelbase of 3683mm with a 1676mm styleside tub, whereas the F-150 LWB has a 304mm longer wheelbase at 3987mm long with a 1981mm styleside tub.

All F-150 models have a braked towing capacity of 4500kg. Payload capacities remain unclear at this point.

Servicing and Warranty
The Ford F-150 is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty like the rest of the Australian lineup.

Ford Australia hasn’t detailed service intervals or pricing as of yet.

Safety
The Ford F-150 hasn’t been tested by Australian crash testing authority ANCAP yet, so for now it remains unrated.

In the US the F-150 was awarded a five-star safety rating according to testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The 2023 Ford F-150 comes standard with the following safety features:

Six airbags
Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)

2023.06.08 19:59 ClanAdvertisment morning everyone! I’m making a post because I’m pretty new to the Mustang scene and I’d like to know a little more about where I should and shouldn’t start.

morning everyone! I’m making a post because I’m pretty new to the Mustang scene and I’d like to know a little more about where I should and shouldn’t start.
I just recently bought a 2020 Ford Mustang ecoboost and Id like to add mods but there’s so many so if any of you could maybe educate and also give me a list of where I should start, it’d be appreciated. Some things I’ve been looking into :
  • Roush performance pack Level 2
  • Nx2 turbo upgrade
  • catch can ( unsure of which but any recommendations? )
  • mishimotor downpipe + mishimotor performance intercooler
  • I’d like a tune but unsure of which is best - turbo smart blow off valve
  • roush cold air intake ( again unsure of which .. the most recent closed doesn’t seem promising )
  • roush cat back exhaust ( seen/heard a couple let me know which you guys best recommend)
  • tornado kit by Parker performance
This is my car currently and how it sounds. I didn’t add anything to it just bought it like this.

2023.06.08 16:43 fightorflight080 2015 3.5L Ecoboost P0303 code

I'm normally a pretty handy shade tree mechanic for my own vehicles. This one has got me stumped I was driving my 2015 Ford expedition with a 3.5 l EcoBoost at freeway speeds. Just as I was about to Crest over a hill on the freeway I started having significant misfires and a loss of power the check engine light began flashing. As we limped over the top of the hill on the downward side I coasted without using the accelerator for probably 3 miles. At the bottom of the grade I was able to maintain 55 to 60 MPH with light acceleration the check engine light was on for probably 15 minutes flashing and then completely went out. I drove home about another hundred miles from this point without incident. When I got home I use my code reader saw the code pulled the coil pack and spark plug on the number three cylinder and didn't see any major issues, what might have caused this temporary misfire? Vehicle has 99k miles on it and I changed all the plugs at 60k miles already.

2023.06.08 16:20 poptart100 Brake booster pressure sensor

Hey guys. I have a 2015 Camaro 2SS and recently got the (P0556 code) brake booster pressure sensor, which is triggering the CEL. I’ve replaced the booster sensor. The wiring, brake booster and the sensor is all fine. I’m still getting the CEL. The garage can’t figure out what’s wrong, I’ve checked multiple forums and other people also have no clue.
Anyone faced anything similar?

All feedback on tunes is appreciated - good or bad. Specially when tunes are bad. At the end of the day I am just the mechanic and you guys are the racers. Do not hesitate irrespective of your tuning knowledge or racing skills!
Tuning method: 1. Stock look - stock wheel rims, default wheel rim sizes, no aero (unless absolutely necessary for handling and stability) 2. Max performance with max handling possible 3. All cars tuned vs. Unbeatable AI on championship tracks in seasonal weather. However! Unbeatable AI is broken and bugged. Not every car can win 7/10 random races vs Unbeatable AI without abusing rewind/restart. Very few cars can beat it consistently. Hope it gets fixed soon one day... 4. Bodykit only used if it does not ruin performance

2023.06.08 13:12 space-ess 2023 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid as first “real car”?

I didn’t know what else to call it besides my first real car since it would be my first adult purchase post graduating college. I just graduated in May and I have a really decent job lined up that I’ll start this month. My first ever car was a 2010 Mazda 3 sport sedan I bought when I was 16 for about ~$5k. That kinda kicked the bucket more recently since the brake system is f-ed and they want more than what the cars worth to fix it. In my opinion I should prob just invest in a new car while I have the opportunity and I am limited on bills. I currently drive one of my parents Jeeps since they recently got two new ones and kept the last one which is a 2015 Willys Wrangler. Love her to death but she’s a real gas gussler and I’m going to be working in the city on night shifts and would feel more comfortable driving in instead of taking the train and walking around. I’d rather not light money on fire for gas on the weekly basis.
That being said, I was interested in the 2023 CR-V Sport Hybrid as an option. Was wondering if anyone has one and seem to love it?? The price actually seemed cheaper for a new one rather than some of the used ones (not sure why that is but maybe someone can help me). I’ll take any advice, my dad is not helpful when it comes to discussing cars and he wasn’t even the one who taught me how to drive, it was my ex’s dad who used to help me with anything and everything car related.
If it helps for insight - I’ll be living at home for a while (since COL near me rn is not reasonable and I’m strongly opposed to roommates), limited bills besides my loan repayment I will start in August, and I was going for the CR-V instead of a sedan hybrid bc I have a medium/large sized dog (incase anyone was going to suggest that to help save money :) ).

Mondeo MD (2015) front brakes $1076?!
Would you pay it (at Ford dealership)? For front rotors and pads.
Can I do it at home? (I have stands)

Brake fluid warning light 😭
Hi, everyone! 2015 Mini Cooper Countryman warning light for brake fluid just went live. Dad suggests to buy brake fluid and just pour some more. I checked the container and it looks like it’s not near low — the fluid was in between max and min, more of a middle-ish level. I need my car for work tomorrow which is a 20 mile round trip. Is it safe for me to use it? Do I heed to my dad’s advice or just take it to the shops? Thank you!!
