I downloaded Knockout City in May 2021 when it dropped on Gamepass. The bright colors and unique gameplay drew me in. I was instantly addicted. Finally, a fun and original multiplayer game that doesn’t involve guns. I ignored my backlog and played KO for hours on end. If I didn’t know what to play, I’d play KO. If I wanted to unwind after a long day, I’d play KO. My street rank went up and up, I maxed out and started over at 1 several times. I watched them add new maps, new balls, new modes, I was there before 3v3 team KO was a permanent mode. Then they added Superpowers! Charge up and a sniper ball, I felt like Billy Madison pelting kids with dodgeballs. I got a pro controller with trigger locks so I could play KO better. I unlocked so many awesome customizations without spending any real money, even when we went free to play. My favorite part of being MVP was watching my brawler do the pizza dance.
….and now, I have to go back to boring old multiplayer guns. Big sad.

I'm using a throwaway account as I will be stating very specific details that I may be recognised by.
I am a 27 year old mathematics teacher who has been teaching since 22; this is my 5th year of teaching. I was part of the NSW scholarship program so I gained permanency at a school immediately after graduation. I was barely interviewed and for this reason I believe I'm quite sheltered and privileged in how I have obtained and retained jobs. This also makes me quite nervous to leave teaching as my whole life has been school, and I have zero 'real world' experience in my opinion.
At my first school, the leadership team was useless and thus organisation and student behaviour was chaotic. A lot of workload was pushed onto teachers, as well as a lot of blame for student behaviour. I held on until my 4th year, until I applied for a transfer to what I believed was a better school. I told myself I'd try a change of schools before deciding to leave teaching forever.
I am now at my second school. This is a half selective school. I find that this school is enjoyable when I come across students who are keen to learn, and when they are, they are incredibly bright and I get very excited to extend them. However, even in the selective classes, there aren't that many truly keen students (most sit there with glazed eyes, only caring once marks are involved, or secretly doing tutoring work and barely listen to me as I explain concepts). Which is what it is, that's not a huge deal to me.
I guess the issue here is that with the selective kids, there is quite a high pressure I feel from them and their parents, if theres anything that has gone wrong I feel quite anxious as it is the selective stream and expectations are high. That on its own would be fine, but on the other non-selective side of the school, I am dealing with misbehaviour more often than not; and there is more teacher blame as parents are quick to blame me if I don't word myself absolutely perfectly to get them on my side first. Of the worst offenders for behaviour in my classes, all of them are students of a culture where I have been told that boys get treated like kings and thus (if they become the 'bad ones') are quite egotistical and tend to act rude to female staff. I have definitely experienced that and the school that I teach in has a very high percentage of these students which gets me down a LOT to be honest (I hope this doesn't come across as racist).
I think I have been trodden down by the large amount of teacher blame that I feel. And I have no idea how to not give a fuck about that long term.
My current school is managed well and leadership is active, my staffroom and colleagues are wonderful. I also really only have one 'bad' class. Things "seem" much better here than my old school in terms of management and staff but lately my instances of crying after work are increasing. My number of sick days are increasing to a very suspicious amount (I took two days off 2 weeks ago, and another 2 days this week...), I find myself wishing an accident would happen so I wouldn't go into work, and I am waking up later and later to the point I come in 5 minutes before the bell.
But then I'll have 3 days of great lessons where I feel like I'm making a difference and decide to stay. It literally feels like my worst abusive relationship, constant highs and lows, thinking ill leave then staying when I get shown a tiny bit of positivity. I also recognise how privileged I am to have permanency, how stable my job is and how I have zero idea how competitive the world really is. Maybe I'll regret leaving if I do. I feel so stuck.
Other than that, I think I am great at my job. I have great relationships with students, most give me feedback that they learn a lot from me and understand me and enjoy my teaching a lot. I'm great at enforcing boundaries around how much work I do, I make sure I never take work home and I'm only in 8am - 4pm at MOST, I'm very efficient at writing reports and admin and get everything done well. I'm always searching for ways to teach maths in a better way and I'm still somewhat passionate for my subject. So I don't know why I feel like I'd rather have a car accident than go to work.
I know I have to wait for another 3 years to transfer again if I want to keep permanency. I have been looking for other permanent teaching jobs online but haven't found many, I know that is a large part of the shortage (teachers not getting permanency and leaving). I don't want to give that up ... If anyone has any advice please let me know.

As I read through the document, my heart raced faster with every line.

But when I look up, he's back staring at the wall with an uncanny fixation. If he keeps it up, I’m going to have to ask him to leave.
[12:35 PM] The sound of a revving engine outside signaled the arrival of the FedEx driver yet again, demanding to know about 'the package'. Irritation bubbled inside me at the relentless daily visits from this delivery person. I couldn't tell if it was some twisted prank from the Barley twins or if the driver was genuinely delusional. I told her no, that we never will have a package for her, and that she’s frankly stupid for asking. She rolled her eyes, blew a bubble from her gum, and popped it before walking away.

[12:44 PM] Jenson swooped by and caught me by surprise. He had that gleeful childish smile on his face as he peered over my desk and asked “Waaaatttchhaaaaa doooinnngggg?”. I could tell he didn’t actually care but I mustered up a response.

“Hey so did you see any packages come in? Or taken? Or any with the packages at all?”

“Never mind, pfff, it’s, uh, probably nothing…”
He wandered in an aimless direction behind me at a hurried pace.
[1:00 PM] I confronted the Barley twins while they were “working”. James had his feet up on his desk, lazily flipping through a magazine, while Tommy was intently focused on a game on his computer. I could feel my blood boil as I approached them. James looked up with a grin and spoke.
“Hey sweetheart, here to bring us coffee?”
"You two better stop with the whole package thing," I seethed. "Jensen blew it, his acting sucks. You know better than to take advantage of our boss’s innocence. And besides, this whole damn thing is too complicated. What's the point?"
James squinted his face in confusion. “Look man, as much as I would like to take credit for whatever bothering you, it ain’t us.”
“We’re busy with work, just like you should be.” Tommy joined and let out a playful wink.
As I glared at them both, I couldn't discern if they were telling the truth.
[1:14 PM] I caught the FedEx driver trying to sneak past my desk. She had a hoody up and obnoxious black sunglasses. I whistled at her and motioned with my hands for her to come over. She sighed at getting caught.
Before she could speak, I shouted “I don't have it, I don't want it, and I don’t want anything to do with it! Got it?"
She proceeded to flick me off. In response, I threw a pencil at her. I missed but it’s the thought that counts.

I quickly scanned the three stalls, only to freeze when I saw the old man in the bright pink poncho standing in the middle one. My first thought was to leave and hold it, but my bladder had other ideas. I took the urinal to his right and did my business as fast as I could.
That's when I felt his eyes on me. I tried to ignore it and keep my eyes on my feet, but something compelled me to look up. And there he was, his eyes locked on mine slowly fixing his drooping frown to a sinister twitching grin. He pulled down his poncho hood revealing a tattoo on the side of his bald head that I couldn’t quite make out. I backed up and the man followed imitating my movement and maintaining eye contact like his head was a gyroscope. It was at this point I noticed the partially see-through poncho was in fact his only article of clothing.
I yelled “Yew dude, what the fuck?” as I lifted my hand blocking my vision. But when I could smell his wretched odor get closer, I split my fingers creating a small peephole. The man’s face was only inches away from mine with an inhuman smile that stretched to the sides of both of his eyes. His eyes consisted of only a black dot pupil slowly dilating, pearl white sclera, and no iris. His ivory teeth were sharp daggers tainted yellow and rotten dry red. He wailed nonsensical words that reverberated off the walls of the cramped bathroom.
I screamed at him to stop, hoping someone would hear me. But he just kept moving one step closer as I took a step back, his smile growing wider and wider. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, and I knew I had to make a break for it. I frantically tore open the bathroom door, praying that he wouldn't lunge at me as I fled.

I don't even know this FedEx driver that I apparently lost my cool with and allegedly knew from the prior week. And that guy in the pink poncho? I'll have to ask Dan at IT if he has access to the security tapes and get this report I submitted to security. The only evidence I have that this happened is that I’m wearing the new FBI logo embroidered shirt Susan gave to me.
I want to be clear again: I'm clean as a whistle. I haven't taken any drugs or even had a drop of alcohol. So, unless I'm developing early dementia, does anyone know how this could have happened? [2:45 PM] Security came by to get my report of the incident. As far as they can tell, it’s just another crazy homeless person. I tried to tell them there was something different about him, that his smile was unearthly but they thought I was being hyperbolic.
[3:59 PM] After making a long pitstop in the breakroom to fully decompress I returned to my desk to find a cardboard box. It lacks any address, and the cardboard is weirdly fresh without any dirt or damage. I think I’m going to open it.
And that’s it. After that point, just 1 minute after, I woke from my daze apparently. I don’t remember any of these events. I don't even know this FedEx driver that I apparently lost my cool with and allegedly knew from the prior week. And that guy in the pink poncho? I'll have to ask Dan at IT if he has access to the security tapes and get this report I submitted to security. The only evidence I have that this happened is that I’m wearing the new FBI logo embroidered shirt Susan gave to me.
I want to be clear again: I'm clean as a whistle. I haven't taken any drugs or even had a drop of alcohol. So, unless I'm developing early dementia, does anyone know how this could have happened? I appreciate any comments or insights that you may have to offer, and I'll make sure to respond to them this week. So essentially, Germany somehow, with the skin of its' teeth holds onto Ostland (or Baltic and Belarus, if Speer), Ukraine and Poland. They settle for giving up Caucasus, Moscowien, St. Petersburg and possibly Crimea. Possibly even get some oil in return or something. This seems like the most realistic ending for 2wrw. The wehr is strong but without oil they can't defend everything east of the Dnipro and Baltic Marshes.
Obviously the Wehr would still be ashamed because Germany would have to admit defeat. In case of Bormann and Goring, I expect a large scale uprising in the East, followed by a military coup and possibly harsh crackdown in the East, followed by chaos which would put the slave revolt to shame. This could possibly be an ending where Russia moves in to stabilize the East while Germany struggles in its' chaos, possibly resulting in a Second German Civil War.
Dengist Speer is the most "bright" one here. The remaining democratic elements, possibly led by Schmidt? (basically idk who it'll be) can ally with Speidel to take down nazism once and for all, and release the Eastern states from supervision, provided they maintain economic ties with Berlin.
GO4 Speer... I'm not really sure what would happen. On one hand it could push for more democratic reform, even going as far as Willy Brandt taking power in Germany and bringing it true democracy. Or Democracy can be defamed and the military takes permanent control. The Eastern States would either become free or put under similar military regimes.
I think the reaction in Russia would be mostly positive regardless. Unless it's one of the more "nationalistic" unifiers, of course. The Liberal and Socialist unifiers would mostly still be heroes in such a case.

“I’m still amazed by how many buildings have gone up already,” Oprin commented as they walked down a street of prefab homes, most of which already had Langan moving into them. “I will admit they aren’t the most pleasing sight though.”
“They’re cheap mass produced units, only designed to provide adequate shelter until proper permanent buildings can be constructed. Effective in basically every way but style,” Daniel explained. “The majority will likely be recycled within the next five to ten years, as you’ll likely have your manufacturing facilities set up to build proper Langan-style homes.”
“Makes sense,” she replied, coming to a stop in front of a house with the second floor access being external instead of internal. “I think we’re here. Looks like I have the upper floor…. I was hoping to have the whole thing to myself….”
“I think because you’re living alone they gave you an apartment instead of a full house,” Daniel explained.
“I know, but a girl can hope,” she told him, heading up the stairs and inserting her key into the door. “I just hope downstairs is quiet and I don’t upset them.”
“The rooms are soundproof unless you really shout.”
“Oh, good to know.”
She opened it to reveal a well lit and furnished living room with ample sunlight, and a piece of paper sitting on the table in the middle. She picked it up and gave it a quick read, absentmindedly pointing to a few things around the room as the basics were explained to her. She then turned the note over to find the same thing written again but in English in case someone was helping her, and then set the notes down before poking at the sofa, which wasn’t quite the right shape for her body, but was close enough to be usable. She waved at Daniel to come inside and close the door, so he did and began to follow her as she explored her new home, heading through the left door at the back of the room into a kitchen-diner-utility room mix, with a fridge already stocked with basic Langan foods that would last a couple of days, though the freezer was empty. She then moved back into the living room and entered the other door, appearing in her bedroom that was dominated by a large double bed that, while not up to Langan standards, was more than capable of accommodating her. There was also a pile of neatly folded basic clothes sat on top of it, but Oprin skipped over them, and instead investigated the room joined to her bedroom, which was a bathroom that even contained a large bath capable of accommodating a Centaur, which she seemed pretty pleased about.
“So, Daniel, this is all mine now, right?” she asked.
“Pretty much, until proper housing is built anyway. Everyone will be moved to a more permanent home once they’ve been built, and these prefabs will be recycled. Basic proper housing is provided to everyone free of charge after all,” he explained.
“And if I want more than a basic house?”
“You’ll have to buy one, unless you end up having a big family, in which case you’ll likely be provided with a house just big enough to accommodate it. They’re not exactly glamorous though. Nicer accommodations are an incentive for working.”
“That’s fine. I’ll earn my own place before too long then,” she replied, going down to her fur now that clothing wasn’t important like in space, and flaking out on the bed.
“That’s the spirit,” he smiled, sitting next to her. “So, have you thought about what you want to do now?”
“I guess I’ve got to go shopping, unless that’s free too?”
“Basic supplies will be delivered daily. Once the shops have been set up, then you’ll be able to buy things, and you’ll have to pick up your basic supplies from there. And before you ask, yes, you can live off the state completely for free, but it’s not exactly a fun life. It gets boring very quickly after a year or two.”
“I can imagine. It doesn’t sound like we get much in the way of luxury or entertainment for free.”
“No, you don’t. You get the major UPC news channels and internet access for free, so there is something, but sitting inside all day with just that is a quick way to go insane. This is a new colony though, so there’s no shortage of jobs, and even on well established planets like Earth there’s usually enough part time jobs open to bring in enough for hobbies and whatnot, even if they are just what used to be full time jobs broken up a bit.”
“Hmm,” she mumbled, a slight hint of discontent slipping through.
“You’re worried about something, aren’t you?”
“How can the UPC afford this? There’s got to be something we’ve got to give back that we haven’t noticed.”
“The UPC can afford this because of exponential automation and the post-scarcity environment created by asteroid mining and the like. And the reason they actually do it is because the public fought for it once their jobs started vanishing, thanks to extreme automation. For the longest time, automation and the number of jobs have been in a rough balance, with new jobs that can’t be automated appearing as automatable ones vanished. Then AI and sapient simulating VIs came along, meaning basically every job could be automated very cheaply. A lot of people suddenly found themselves out of a job and unable to provide for their families. Society began to change rapidly, and governments were formed from people that knew what it was like to be replaced. Laws quickly changed, and a reasonable welfare program was made standard across the UPC, with a promise that it will be expanded as automation becomes more prevalent. There are also laws around certain things that can never be completely automated, such as AI development, manufacturing, and spaceship operation, as it’s felt that there always needs to be a person involved to ensure things aren’t going wrong. Plus, there will always be some jobs, as many people just prefer hand-made things.”
“So springing up a city and providing for everyone here really isn’t much of a cost for them?”
“Not really. I imagine the food is expensive as they can’t use the established agri-centres and other methods of food production, and will have to use expensive molecular assemblers to ensure you’re getting everything you can’t get from our food, but once you start farming your own food, they’ll start using that.”
“They’re not growing it themselves?”
“It’s a unique Langan resource, them producing it themselves would cut into your ability to trade it,” he explained.
“Oh, I didn’t think that they might be considerate like that.”
“Anything unique to a people of a colony is protected and can only be produced by that people or colony, though what falls under ‘unique’ can be nebulous. Langan food and cultural items will fall under that for the most part, so if people want them on other worlds, you’re the only ones that will be able to put those things legally into the market.”
“I see…. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting a conversation this serious or about this topic the first time I shared a bed.”
Daniel furrowed his brow, and looked down at the bed he was sitting on, and he began to wonder if Langan considered this to be more intimate than Humans did. As he began to stand up and apologise, Oprin grabbed his arm and pulled him back down, wrapping an arm around him.
“I’m just messing with you,” she laughed, letting him go and sitting up. “I just can’t help but say how happy I am for it to finally be over.”
“I think most people here are of the same mind,” he assured her. “So, shopping is off the table for the moment, so what would you like to do?”
“Are you staying overnight?”
“No, I’ll be going back up to the Trailmaker.”
“I get privacy to wash later then, good,” she replied, getting onto her paws. “Can we take a walk in the forests around us? It’s been a while since I’ve seen any wildlife.”
“Sure. If you’re ready, we can go now if you’d like?” he suggested, checking his holo.
“I am,” she confirmed, guiding him out of her apartment and locking the door. “How long of a walk is it to get there?”
“It would be about an hour or two as a large space was left for rapid city development, but I’ve booked us a transport to take us fairly close,” he replied, looking down the street as a small car trundled down the dirt road. “Not the fastest way of getting around, but it works well without infrastructure.”
“But wheeled vehicles are terrible off road!”
“The wheels are just for the road,” he replied, opening the door and gesturing for her to enter, and following her in. They both belted up, and he tapped a destination on the map in the front of the car, and it began to drive down the road, moving slowly so as not to startle anyone nearby. “If you hadn’t guessed, it’s driverless.”
“I thought so,” she replied, realising that they were driving slower than some of the vehicles from her world. “I see what you mean by it not being the fastest.”
“Safety regulations. Roads in urban areas are prioritised for foot and cycle traffic, and high speed travel is best done by subways. Once we’re on the wider roads, we’ll speed up until they end,” he explained, looking out the window as they passed the new cluster of houses being installed, which was quickly followed by the car rapidly picking up speed. “There we go.”
“What happens when we run out of road though?” Oprin asked, realising that it would run out long before the distant forest.
“You’ll see,” he smiled, watching as the end of the road approached faster and faster.
A few minutes of travel later, the car began to slow as the dirt abruptly turned into the grass-like plant, and the car began to rise off the ground by half a metre, passing over all the rough terrain without a hint of bumpiness.
“The car can hover!?” Oprin exclaimed.
“Yep,” Daniel confirmed.
“Why don’t you use this all the time!?”
“Well, it’s more expensive to run than just using wheels, so wheels are preferable when they’re an option, but we do use hover vehicles a lot when working on uneven terrain or need to move something that’s sensitive. It also doesn’t really like to stop or turn too quickly once you get up to speed, so it’s not as safe or reliable in that regard in busy areas. As for military applications, well, they’re just too vulnerable and easy to disable to use anywhere where combat might be a risk. They’re useful, but they’re not a miracle transport tech.”
“Oh, I see….”
Before too long, the car came to a stop at the edge of the forest, and the pair disembarked, with the transport setting itself down on the ground and powering down. Daniel checked his holo to see that the car had automatically gone into wait mode, and he confirmed that he wanted it to remain that way for an hour, instead of going back into the pool and having to wait for another car to get out there if it wasn’t desperately needed elsewhere. The pair walked side by side into the forest, moving fairly quietly as the sounds of the wildlife grew.
“There’s no Mirran wildlife that we have to be concerned about, right?” Daniel quietly asked.
“That depends on if the Deities brought back ventrim from extinction, as I know for sure we didn’t keep any of their eggs,” Oprin replied. “Otherwise, only if we head into the water or eat some of the bugs, as most are poisonous. All the other land animals aren’t much of a threat if you don't trap or antagonise them. The prey animals almost always run away, and the predators won’t harm other predators unless they’re starving or feel threatened.”
“Oh, well that’s lucky then. Some of the wildlife on Earth will just attack you for merely existing, even if they don’t really gain anything from it. Well, I’m sure they generally feel threatened as they don’t understand we usually aren’t going to do anything, but still….”
“Remind me not to enter wild areas without a guide then,” she replied, crouching down and gesturing for him to do the same.
He followed her guidance, slowly moving forwards until they were hidden behind a bush with a few holes large enough for them to see through. He immediately caught sight of what she had spotted, as his eyes locked onto what was best described as a six legged miniature horse, nibbling away at a shrub. As he continued to watch, he noticed more strange details, such as a series of overlapping chitinous plates protecting its neck, hips, and shoulders, and thick leathery skin on its stomach, all features that made it seem like it had evolved to shrug off potentially lethal attacks as it fled.
As he continued to watch, he noticed something small in the bush in front of him, that looked very close to a hercules beetle, but with ten legs and three horns, and a series of scales instead of a chitinous exoskeleton. It also bore a few bright stripes, warning predators it was a bad idea to turn it into a meal.
Daniel felt something pressing against his chest, and he looked down to see one of Oprin’s lower hands against his chest, with its short claws extended, and when he looked at her, he noticed the upper hands had much larger claws out. He deployed his hidden pulse laser from his arm as a precaution, and then followed her eyes to a large fur covered animal, somewhere between a small wolf and a cat but also with six legs, silently approaching the horse-like animal from behind.
In a lightning fast move, the predator leapt at its prey, attempting to sink its teeth into the flank of its prey. Its maw glanced off the chitinous plates, unable to disable the vital joint underneath, and instead sinking into the muscle behind it. The prey, realising the situation, immediately bolted at high speed, releasing a spray of blood as the predator's teeth fragged a long gash along its side until the rearmost plates were reached, where it then began to attack the joint from its more secure position.
Daniel quickly lost sight of them as they disappeared deeper into the forest, and he instead looked at Oprin, who's claws slowly retracted. He retracted his laser, knowing the danger was most likely gone, and stepped back away from the bush. He looked around to make sure nothing had been sneaking up on them, and then quickly scanned the area to make sure nothing was hidden, and was relieved to find nothing around them.
"What were they?" Daniel asked.
"The prey was a platcan, a common large herbivore that is, or was, sometimes used as farm animals, both for food and for labour. The predator was a lulten, a very rare medium sized predator, but they normally run away from Langan, us being the larger predators and all," Oprin explained. "Both look like they're adolescents, and have room to grow, will probably be at breeding age in nine months."
"The Deities likely started the animals off so that they'd reach maturity in the very early Spring then," he concluded.
"It seems like it," she agreed. "For both species, mating starts in the early Spring, laying starts in the middle of it, and hatching starts towards the end, once their food sources have had a chance to grow."
"Good to know. I have to wonder, do all of your animals lay eggs?"
"Yes, though not all of us have the same sort of timeframe. For example, us Langan normally mate in the Autumn, lay at the end of Winter, and hatch at the start of Summer. Don't all of yours lay eggs?"
"No. For almost all mammals, such as us Humans, and a select few non-mammals, it's all held internally until fully grown to something akin to what would come out of an egg, and then just birthed live."
"Ew!" she exclaimed. "Sorry, I meant that that's strange by our standards."

Sons of Ignotum
The sons believe that there are two parts to each battle brother in the company, the physical manifestation of their father, and the spiritual one. It is unknown where the gene-seed of the SoI comes from, but the inquisition has been at their side since before the founding was announced, with a permanent office on their chosen home world of Sallistor Minoris. The Inquisition has throne agents throughout the chapter, with at least one known throne agent in each company, an agent within the Clemen Munditia, and Inquisitor Kadmiel Darkscream within the command structure of the chapter itself.

The physical manifestation is the will of the Father, to spread out across the stars to bring his word, his purpose to every creature in the cosmos. They are his harbingers of doom to his enemies and the angels that protect the innocent. The Sons of Ignotum do not see themselves above the citizens of the empire but feel they are blessed to have been given a chance to acquire such strength and ability, that each day as a space marine must be paid back to their father, through acts of great honor, including putting their own life at risk to save an innocent.

The spiritual part of the battle brothers is a manifestation of their physical qualities into a spiritual world, where their spiritual forms spend their entire lives marching on a path of light in a plane of pure evil. They believe there are seven gates that they must pass through, each one testing their mind and spirit, for it is not good enough to live honorably, they must embrace their father's love and gifts within their mind as well.

If a brother can pass through all seven gates, then he has earned the right to walk by his father's side, becoming a small piece to the emperor’s Astronomican once he falls in combat. So to ensure they have the time to complete their march across the path, they must be furious in combat, but tactically sound within their mind, it is not enough to die for their father, they must embrace his teachings, his wisdom, his spirit and the ultimate price he paid to the service of his people. It has been nearly 900 years since the founding, and no battle brother has completed the trails of the gates.

The gates are:

1. Sacrifice: It can be easy to charge into battle while wearing the armor of a space marine, the thick layers of protecting ceramite wrapped around a warrior of muscle, but the sacrifice of the spiritual is taking the time to remember their father, to remember his gifts and guidance and remembering that they are just men, given a great gift.

Sacrifice is the first gate and one that every aspirant must walk through before they are allowed to be a battle brother. The Sacrifice gate is one of two gates that have a physical mutation on the body of the space marine and can be easily identified by a space marine’s eyes changing color to a light purple and dark blue.

1. Fear: There is a saying in almost every chapter of the space marines, and that is They Shall Know No Fear, the SoI don't believe it was their father's intention for his sons to operate as if fear was not a component of fighting the most ruthless, foulest, and ugliest creatures of the universe; but to control fear and not let it take hold of a space marines actions. This gate can be walked through when a brother confronts his fear, embraces his fear, overcomes his fear, and then remembers his fear.

1. Purity: Chaos is the ultimate evil of the universe, and it can be a drug that many brothers turn to when in doubt, when in fear, when alone, or when weak. The Purity gate can be opened by a brother who has been tempted by Chaos but chose his father over the temptations of power. The SoI have an abnormally high connection to the psychic abilities of the telepath, but almost all lack the power or will to push their dominance on others.

This connection allows them to see their spiritual projection, the path, and the gates they walk through, and allows for the chaos powers a more accessible path that corrupts the brothers of the chapter.

Walking through this gate fortifies a brother's mind against chaos, and once passed through, chaos can never claim a brother for themselves. The Chapters Librarians are crucial to keeping their brothers on the path, focusing their psychic abilities and helping stave off the forces of chaos, every company has a Videntis (Librarians) known as Custos Incessu or Guardians of the Marches, with the chapter having a Perfectus Custos Incessu or Perfect Guardian of the March (Cheif Librarian).

1. Meaning: To pass through meaning, is to remember and understand the purpose of the Space Marines. Created to unite all of Terra, to build a bond of human unity, and to face the stars as a race, not just those picked to wage endless war.

For a brother to walk through this gate, they must understand, accept and teach the meaning of a Space Marine; they are the guardians of mankind, Shepards to a flock that is always in danger, without the flock they lack meaning, and the flock without it's guardians would soon be ravaged by the enemies of mankind.

1. Love: Not every brother can meet the expectations that are placed on them, many give in to corruption and lies and step away from their father's light. It is easy to hate the fallen brothers of Chaos, but the SoI must strengthen themselves against this hate; they must remember what their brother used to be.

To pass through this gate a brother must face a fallen chaos space marine and strike them down without hate or malice, for using love that only battle brothers could understand, they end the suffering of a tortured soul, save them from the grasp of chaos and not feed the demons in the shadows.

There is a squad within the chapter called the Clemen Munditia or the Forgiving Purity. Consisting of Thirteen veteran brothers that have walked through the gates of sacrifice, love, purity, and meaning. Their mission is to guard the chapter from SoI who have fallen to chaos, led by a lieutenant they keep their chapter's heritage alive by being champions of accountability.

This squad also serves as the experts against the enemies of chaos, and the last line of defense against the Inquisition. Without a dedicated squad of brothers facing the incursions of chaos within their own chapter, the Inquisition would have more power and sway over the dealings of the chapter. The Clemen Munditia serves as the answer to the question if the chapter is loyal. Since the squad's inception, over 270 brothers have been rescued from Chaos, with Lieutenant Lulis Falux serving the past 450 years as squad commander and the last 200 years as Vicarii to the chapters Magna Incessu Capella. 1. Power of Will: One of the hardest gates to pass through, every battle brother must pass through this gate before they may become a Custos Inessu.

To pass through this gate, a brother must focus their psych abilities on the gate, forcing it to open. This is not an easy task, a brother can train for decades and not move the gate an inch. Only those who possess can control their robust psychic ability, and understand the responsibility such power commands may pass through.

This gate represents security and protection for the brothers of the chapter, for Custos Inessu are the spiritual chaplains and apothecaries and help fortify their brothers' minds from chaos. Just like their father uses his mind to provide security and protection for the millions of souls who use the warp to traverse the universe.

1. Leadership: The second gate that manifests a physical mutation upon a battle brother once passed through. To be placed in charge of their brothers, a space marine must pass through the leadership gate, the only gate that requires both physical expertise and mental discipline. A brother must show the physical ability to wield their weapons with such expertise that they have gained the title of Peritum, and the intelligence to understand how best to use these weapons effectively.

To walk through the gate means that a space marine has the dependability to be trusted by his leaders and the marines who follow them, the decisiveness when to execute decisions when necessary, and unselfishness. Many marines consider honor on the battlefield as the highest commendation possible, but a leader must forgo their own personal glory for the glory as a whole.

Once passed through, a brother will take five days to fully mutate, losing all hair on their body except for a bright red mane that forms from the top of their chest to the mid of the back and overlaps their shoulders. Their armor covers most of this extra growth, with a portion of it sticking out from underneath the helmet and above the chest piece.
