2023.06.05 02:54 Content-Aardvark-105 Confused by midi parameter options: Learn, Param Modulation/MIDI Link, Automation Envelopes... ack!
I'm confused about MIDI control of reaper controls like track volume and plugin parameters, recording MIDI input to automation envelopes, etc. I think this is more a conceptual issue than a "how do I..." question. If I get the concepts cleared up the How To part should be easy to figure out.
What are the underlying differences between Learn and Parameter Modulation/MIDI Link? They look like they do the same thing, only with with different options. I assume I'm missing something significant here. Why not one combined thing with all the options?
Why/when use one over the other, aside from their different options?
Why would a parameter, e.g., Vital's volume slider, respond to Learn but not Parameter Modulation/MIDI Link?
What happens if you enable both?
Is there a way to assign MIDI controls to Reaper controls on a per project basis? Say a specific keyboard fader controls Track 10 Volume, but only on that project? As it is, I only know how to assign it in the Actions List.
I'm also confused about how to capture the movements of a keyboard fader and record them as a track automation envelope. On the Envelope control area I see buttons for both PM/ML and Learn - so back to that confusion.
What is an Automation Item, how does it differ from just the whole Automation Envelope it sits on?
Here is how I currently use them:
To manually control plugin parameters on-the-fly during playback I use Learn to assign faders on my midi keyboard.
When I want more control (baseline, offset, scale) I use Parameter Modulation/MIDI Link but it does not always work.
I also use this if I'm driving a parameter via audio or LFO.
(I just discovered creating LFOs using Envelope Items - need to explore that)
For automation envelopes I've stuck to creating them by mouse. I did manage to record one via MIDI fader, once, but I'm back to being lost.
I usually figure things out just fine by playing around or watching YT, but not this. I'm purely a hobby producer and have as much fun learning as creating so I have no problem watching videos or reading... I'm sure it's been covered by KG, LTAR, or RB - most likely all three and then some, but my search attempts have failed.

2023.06.05 02:48 random4lyf Need some help with reliable upgrades, been out of the game for too long.
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Gaming, Mostly MMORPGs with streaming, ideally at ultrawide resolution of 30/60fps
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
Budget is really flexible. Would like to not pass 3k AUD ( 1700 is being used for a 4080 )
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Over the next week or two ideally because I cant wait.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Specifically RAM/Motherboard/Powersupply/CPU cooler
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Australia, NSW
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Case(Will update when I get home and can check the box, but fits a 1660ti extremely easily) CPU( R7 3700x), GPU ( RTX 4080 )
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Currently not overclocked, but have in the past. I believe I might need to, to squeeze some more juice.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
The motherboard needs to support 2+ m.2, 4+ Sata drives.
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
N/A
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
N/A
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
N/A
Extra info or particulars:
Currently got a good deal on a 4080 BNIB and figured I should upgrade my power and board size to accomodate.
I want more storage as well and would like to utilize m.2, currently have a few m.2 chips but my board currently only supports 1.
And lastly, will my 3700x cause bottlenecking issues, or mostly be fine for my use cases? Should I look to upgrade that as well.

2023.06.05 02:43 cakeozonesee PS4 controller problem with USB connection
Hi, my PS4 controller is not usable when connect with USB to my PC and there is no light shown when connecting at all but still able to use bluetooth. Now I will explain the situation of what happened may be long, I'm sorry.
- While using controller in bluetooth mode,my PC window notify me that the device is not recognized even tho I use it in bluetooth mode and it's not other device like keyboard or mouse because I can still use it just fine.
- Now when I tried to connect my controller using USB, It not working and no light at all was shown on the controller.
- I don't know if this useful or not but my controller light before this happened was blue but when this happened it change to purple and not changing back to blue.
Here is what I've done but still not fix it.
- Resetting my controller
- Remove my controller from my PC bluetooth
- Change USB cable
- Change USB port as I thought it was broken but when I use other device on this port which I thought was broken, my other device still be able to use just fine
I don't have any other controller so I don't know if it have to do with the controller itself or not. I think I may have to reset my windows but I want to use it as my last resort. Can anyone help me or have suggestions for me?
Thank you.

2023.06.05 02:40 samorotwasbored Plan on buying a PC with my graduation money, know next to nothing about PC building.
>**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**
Mostly gaming, and 3d designing models for 3d printing. Might also use for online college. The most intensive games I plan to play (that I know of) are Minecraft/Terraria with 10-20 mods.
>**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**
Willing to go up to 1500, but would like to spend closer to 1000.
>**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**
Sometime this summer, probably mid June - early July.
>**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)**
Just the tower. Already have the monitor, and plan to buy the keyboard + mouse separately.
>**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**
USA, Ohio. I live within 25 min. of a Micro Center.

2023.06.05 02:39 Substantial-Elk-1259 I just bout the FL Studio producer edition and when I input notes using mouse in the piano roll, the "strength" of the sound is not uniform even though velocity is the same.
I played with FL keys and using piano roll, I inputted some notes using mouse and the "strength" of the sound gradually got weaker and then stronger and then weaker again as I played the sample. It was weird because the velocity of each note was exactly the same. In this case, what should I do? I cannot bring the midi keyboard with me..

2023.06.05 02:31 DR0516 Building my first gaming PC, want a 6700xt!
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
This will be a gaming PC first and foremost, however, my laptop is done and I’d ask like to do some content consumption on it but it will be light such as YouTube, twitch, etc. Anything a normal pc could do. I play a few select games: my main game is Rocket League and I play it daily. Second tier of games are Valorant and CS. Rarely, I might play COD or Minecraft but the main games are the ones mentioned previously with RL being #1.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
Ideally $1000-$1100 CAD as I think it should be sufficient, but don’t mind going over if it’s optimal. This also follows the gpu 50% of budget rule.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Not in a huge rush, I’m patient and plan to buy it over the summer.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Only the actual PC!
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
I’m in Canada, on the Quebec/Ontario border so can buy from both sides and also don’t mind buying online.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I already have a SteelSeries mouse I’ll re-use.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Not sure, whatever is optimal I guess (I don’t know much about overclocking)
**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support,
As mentioned in title, I want a 6700xt as I think it’s the best midrange gpu’s and seems to offer great price to performance. For cpu, I was thinking 5600x or an i5-12400(f) but I’m not smart enough to know which is best.
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
Wifi
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Ideally I’d like the case to look good, the colour be black, and some RGB inside (lol)!
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
It doesn’t need to be included in the budget.
Extra info or particulars:
Besides what’s mentioned above, I have a “decent” gaming monitor that I use with my Xbox right now. I’ll probably purchase a 1080p monitor and rock a dual monitor setup, then purchasing a better monitor to replace my current one, and so on, until I eventually, hopefully, have two 1440p monitors. From my understanding the gpu I’ve selected can perform at 1440p, but please let me know if my budget isn’t good enough to do this.
Also if the budget permits, I’d love to have room to upgrade things in a few years such as the gpu, but can understand if that’s not really possible with the budget right now!
Thank you.

2023.06.05 02:28 FrostyEvent00 Did I just kill my CPU?
So, I overclocked my Ryzen 3 3300x to 4.3GHz after originally getting it to 4.4GHz. I was gaming fine and temps were nothing monstruous, but after a random shutdown I decided to decrease it to the current frequency (4.3GHz), also decreasing voltage. I save and exit from my bios, and then the pc shuts off. After booting it up again, I noticed that everything works, except there is no display on the monitor and the RGB from both mouse and keyboard won't work. I know they're technically working because if I unplug them and plug then back the lights will turn on.
I already tried everything. Removed RAMs and tested each individually, unplugged the PSU, removed the CMOS battery to reset the mobo, but nothing seem to work. Is this it? Is this the end for the forgotten trooper that is my 3 3300x? :(

I was playing through Kenabres in a new playthrough, tried to get Camellia to use inflict wounds spell she learned from a scroll and it worked, but now the game is bugged, when trying to change character instead Camellia tried to use a spell on whichever character I try to change to (including herself) and after changing to a different save from a different playthrough the problem persists (even without Camilla, its just my character and a horse there), can anybody help me?
I'm playing with a controller, but changing to mouse and keyboard didn't solve it either.

2023.06.05 02:21 Mr_Lamin Need help with a $1,000-$1,200 build. GPU preference is rx 6800 xt or rtx 4070 (but you can suggest something else if you want)
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
- Mainly Gaming and occasional 3d/2d design work for my job
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
- $1000 preferably but I can squeeze an extra $100-$200
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
- I’m not in a rush, so maybe a month or even 3 months from now
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
- Just the PC. I already have a high refresh rate monitor and will order other peripherals separately
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
- Ordering through US (New York) through a relatives address ,will have it sent over to my country of residence later.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
- Not reusing any parts except a HP Monitor which I will most likely replace later
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
- I don’t really care that much about overclocking
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
- 2TB SSD would be my preference for the future but that might be overkill for now
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
- Preferably a Mid Tower Case and I’m going for an all white build. A little RGB is okay for me I’m not too big on it.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
- No. will probably get a cheap windows keys online
Side note: I’m looking for something energy efficient that runs with minimal heat because I already live in a tropical climate. Cheers. Also, if you think I should wait for a price drop for GPU parts please let me know.

2023.06.05 02:17 Personal-Following-9 Is late May/early June a bad time for sunsets/sunrises?
I've been here 12 days since May 24th and yet to see a sunset or sunrise that fully or almost fully blocked by clouds on the horizon of the sky. At this time of year the sun both sets and rises in the north part of the sky and that's been choked with clouds every day I've been here. I came here primarily for landscape photography, and having no sunsets or sunrises where the land is lit up by the last or first colorful rays of the day has been dampening to say to the least. I'm wondering if the north part of the sky is most often crowded with clouds and someone would be better off visiting when the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, two polar opposite parts of the sky, say in September? Or does Iceland simply not get many strong sunsets/sunrises?
I've followed the advice of many - to use the vedur website and to "drive to where the light is" - but it's not helped. It's helped me avoid rain, but even when vedur says an area is going to be clear at sunset, the clouds on the north horizon have been there, while the rest of the sky is mostly clear.

2023.06.05 02:15 TheLostArguer Moving my Mac Mini between home and office: Dock/Hub Advice
I have decided to get a Mac Mini M2 after a decade of using a laptop.
I have 2 monitors at home and at the office. I've basically been using my laptop solely as a PC to date, plugging it up to separate displays, using USB-C-to-HDMI dongles, a wireless keyboard, and a wireless mouse wherever I am. I'd like to replace my laptop with a MM but don't want to have to carry around dongles and extra cables. I don't ever work away from my desks, and, in the case that I need to do so, I'll still have my laptop around (if this all works out well, I plan on trading my laptop in for an iPad and keyboard with a trackpad). Anyways, most of my work/files are stored on cloud storage. I also carry around a hard drive for everything I'd like to store cold.
I'd like to get 2 docking stations/hubs, one for each the office and home that are plugged up to the necessary display and ethernet cables. I also plan on keeping a power cable for the MM at both desks, kept on an adhesive cable clip next to the hub/dock. This way, wherever I go, I just have to plug it into the dock, the power, and if need be my hard drive. All monitors have their dedicated HDMI cables.
I found the
NewQ USB C Laptop Docking Station (12 in 1, with the adapter). It seems like the best fit for what I need. It doesn't act as a stand like many of the other ones do, but that's fine. I plan on having them stuck down to both desks with adhesives. They'll be plugged into their power source, monitor connections, and ethernet cable.
1) Are there any better options out there that I couldn't find? The ethernet support is not the most important feature. I can connect to the internet using WiFi in both settings. A dock with 2 HDMI ports, USB-C slots (the more the merrier), a power supply (so that it's powerful?), and strong data transfer capabilities are the most important features. I'm not holding myself to the tightest budget, but knowing that the NewQ is a sound option at ~$100 would make it difficult for me to spend much more than that.
2) Is there anything I haven't considered? Anything that I might want to do in the future that this setup would limit? Yes, DYOR is key, but I'm hoping some other MM-ers have lived what I'm trying to do already and could give me some insight into what the life is like (i.e. what sucks about this plan?).
Thank you!

2023.06.05 02:09 respectedcriminal Any unintended consequences to plugging HDMI to GPU and a DisplayPort monitor via USB-C (not being used) at the same time?
Recently finished a new build - thank you to the kind people on this subreddit for great advice.
I have a monitor with DisplayPort and HDMI inputs.
The HDMI is connected directly to my GPU.
The DisplayPort is connected to a Thunderbolt hub (
https://www.caldigit.com/thunderbolt-4-element-hub/) via a USB-C to DP cable. The hub also contains a keyboard, mouse, webcam, etc.
I usually use the hub with my work laptop, but I'd like to also use the same peripherals with the new PC.
Can I leave the DisplayPort cable plugged in, or would having an HDMI cable in the GPU and the DP cable in the motherboard via USB-C (monitor set to HDMI input) cause issues?
When I plug in the hub, I get a warning about my DisplayPort adapter not functioning as intended in Windows notifications, but everything else seems to be fine. Ran some tests and benchmarks and didn't notice anything amiss, although HWINFO shows that the motherboard GPU is "alive" (vs. totally disabled) as far as I can tell.
Would be grateful for advice!

2023.06.05 02:08 Artoriasxb Game lags and stutters on steam deck after about an hour of play whenever the mouse is moved.
Hi, having an issue when using the steam deck docked with FFXIV and XIV launcher using a keyboard and mouse, after an hour or two the game would lag and drop FPS down to like 20fps whenever I move the mouse and would go back to normal If I let go, confusing and i can't even imagine what would be causing this, can't really seem to find much online so hoping someone has knowledge or has experienced this and found a fix. Could see if anyone had found a solution. I can stop it for a time by quitting and restarting every hour but it is unfortunate if the issue pops up in the middle of a duty. Thank you!

2023.06.05 01:56 NoMore_HalfMeasures Help finding the thief’s that broke into my car and stole a bunch of stuff. I have receipt and location via find my iPhone app
Title explains it basically. However, whoever stole my stuff (credit card, ID, brand new car battery, apple keyboard, Magic Mouse and a few more small items) also stole something that doesn’t belong to me. Now before anyone says it, yes I know I shouldn’t have all of that in my car but I did and it happened in a short period of time (lesson learned). I’ve been tracking down the locations where the card was used but no luck on the stores identifying or letting me know who they were. They stole my AirPods and I can see where the case is located.
I’m asking if anyone of you could assist on moving forward. I’ve filed a police report but where I’m located I doubt anything will be dealt with. This happened today and I want it finished today. I don’t know so any advice would be awesome.

2023.06.05 01:45 usernogood How do I fit 15k into this build? [noob question]
- What are you using the system for? ANSWER: Light gaming (Valorant), office work (aws), and studying webdev (vscode)
- What's your budget? ANSWER: if possible 15k php lang sana since I'm on a tight budget, pero if it doesn't work talaga then it could be stretched to 18-20k
- Does your budget include peripherals & monitor? ANSWER: It includes monitor. I already have SSD, mouse, and keyboard
- If you're gaming, what is your monitor resolution / refresh rate? ANSWER: I heard 144hz is good enough, pero I'm open to suggestions naman if u think I should aim higher or lower
- If you’re doing professional work, what software do you need to use? ANSWER: amazon workspace, vscode, and opening multiple chrome tabs at the same time lol
Been using laptop for years now pero it started acting up last week. Already paid more than 3k kakabalik sa comp shop for repairs and have tried troubleshooting on my own pero it didn't solve the problem. Building a PC is more affordable than buying a midrange laptop so yan na lang gagawin ko.
So I'm already set on AMD Ryzen 5 5000g and I wanna build my unit around it. As for now, wala akong balak bumili ng GPU. How do I fit my 15k budget for this?
