New (to me) 2000 Chevy Astro recommendations

2023.06.07 01:25 No-Employee-7080 New (to me) 2000 Chevy Astro recommendations

I just brought my new (to me) 2000 AWD Chevy Astro to the mechanic to check everything out after purchasing it for $3200 with 149k Miles.
I drove it about 200miles back home, no Major problems (hard to turn while IDLE, squeaks here and there.) The original owner told me I should replace the power steering pump, so that's on my list of to dos. Drove it again another 100 miles no major problems again. I thought everything was great, and I got a great deal on a sweet rig.
Then, I bring it to my mechanic and that's when my thoughts changed.
Problems my mechanic found, along with what I feel while driving it Rust under the body --- He suggested I spray an undercoat to slow down the rust from spreading Replace the Leaf Springs--- I've attached photos, but it seems it was welded at one point but it broke again at the end. (It's bouncy, but apparently the old owner used some stronger springs to compensate)
Replace Ball Joints - (don't know/feel anything regarding this, but I wouldn't know too much about it) Replace Oil (I plan on doing that myself, along with the filters) Replace Brakes and Rotors (Again, drove it 400miles and it still braked. There was a learning curve but I can confidently stop the car when needed) Replace Power Steering Pump (Hard to turn the wheel while idle) So, my question is which of these is a major, pressing issue, and which repairs can wait?
This rig will be mainly a campeweekend road trip/long road trip rig. I hope to get another 100k miles out of it. Besides those problems, everything else (to my knowledge) works great.
PS -
I plan my best to try and learn to fix these problems myself as money comes in, but I do not want this car to become a money dump, especially if it already drove 400miles no problem.
Cheers!

2023.06.07 01:02 sparkpaw 3D Printing a fully functional water fountain for cats

I can think of multiple subreddits to post various parts of this question into, but none of them would be able to address everything, so I hope this subreddit is okay.
What I want to create:
A 3D printed (potentially resin coated for smoothness?) “river like” fountain that pools for cats to drink out of. I would like it to have full filtration (not just a sponge pad, but also carbon/charcoal filters and whatever other filters can help keep the water clear and pure) and potentially a way for a light indicator to show when the reservoir is low and it needs filling to mitigate pump burnout.
Why this when cat drinking fountains exist?
I have four cats, and all of the drinking fountains that I can find on the market don’t really consider the amount of cats, space they need, and their preferences. Yes, I’m sounding like a crazy cat parent, but hydration is critical for cats because they don’t by nature drink standing water, and this leads to kidney failure and early death.
Further, my cats are picky little shits that didn’t like the fountains that bubbled or splashed because they would get wet, and also the filters were genuinely not good enough to prevent slime from developing after just 1-2 days (when theoretically it only needs a water change once a week/7 days).
Finally: aesthetics. As many things are, I think it would be much more attractive to have a River stone water “slide” into a pool (mitigating splashes) that multiple cats could access at once. This also helps them to not get as wet/feel claustrophobic as some recent studies suggest their whiskers are very sensitive, so they will always go for a flat surface to eat or drink as opposed to a deep bowl.
Let me know if additional information is needed, but I wanted to get ideas back from engineers about considerations in all three major areas - design, electronics, and filtration.
Thank you!

2023.06.07 00:53 SpideyFan914 I Just Caught Up on ASM: A Rant

Really, I just need to rant. I know most of this is old news now. But no one I know IRL reads these comics, so I gotta let it out somewhere...
I tend to binge comics every so often instead of reading month-to-month, as I find it easier to keep up that way (and single issues are no longer substantial enough to feel worth it honestly). So I last left off after Spencer's run. Read Beyond in two days, and then Wells' run (including most Dark Web tie-ins) in another two days.
So, first off...
BEYOND
I didn't hate this actually. There are times when it's a bit dull. I wanted more of a focus on Ben and Janine's daily life, but the story was primarily interested in plot plot plot. Even then, Ben's personality shines through and I really liked him for most of it.
The villains were pretty lousy. Doc Ock and Aunt May teaming up did not work at all, I'm sorry. I just don't buy that Aunt May would do that (and also I keep forgetting that she no longer knows Peter is Spider-Man, like I could've sworn she found out again at some point).
Queen Goblin is okay though, and I like that they play up the therapy angle here. The whole "Norman's Sins" thing is weird magic mumbo-jumbo, but if you just swap it around and use some basic science experimentation / brainwashing instead, it would work pretty well.
Benching Peter was ballsy and done in a pretty lame way. It doesn't really make sense he'd be in a regular hospital to be honest, like they should've figured out he was Spider-Man from every blood test. But at least they didn't pretend to kill him off or whatever.
Ben ultimately losing his memories... was an interesting idea for an issue or two.
Anyway, Janine is my favorite character for some reason. I've never heard of her before this (I thought she was an MJ clone for a minute). I understand she had a few appearances back in the 90s, probably in the Clone Saga. (I've read most of Spider-Man history, but the 90s Clone Saga is my biggest blind spot. Too many crossovers which I didn't have access to when I read all of ASM as a kid, so I just skipped it rather than stopping. Then as an adult when I did get access to those other books and read them up to the Clone Saga... I just didn't have the patience haha. I'll get back to it one of these days.) But yeah, Janine kicks ass here. I love the internal conflict, the genuine devotion to Ben, the willingness to throw down when shit hits the fan... She's great.
The best though was the single one-shot when Peter fights some weird demon thing in the hospital. It made no sense and came out of nowhere and I'm still not sure why it happened. But it was cool and the art was good and I like horror stuff, so that was neat.
Okay, main event...
ZEB WELLS AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
THE GOOD
I'm not above being able to compliment some things.
I like how he wrote Tombstone. Tombstone's plan to make Spider-Man beat up Rose for him is surprisingly solid and a well-done twist.
I also like Vulture's brief appearance, and how vicious he is. I'm a Vulture stan, and hate it when people treat him like a joke. So it's nice to see someone recognize just how terrifying and ruthless Vulture can actually be.
Hobgoblins... are okay. He kinda neutered Kingsley, but it's fun seeing Ned get brainwashed again.
Um, let's see, there's some other positive...
Black Cat shines throughout. I did not need Peter and Felicia to get back together, but at least I buy it when it happens. Even aside from that though, she does feel like an actual character in both this and Beyond, and not just Peter's ex who writers don't know what to do with.
Uh, the Celestial Gwen bit was interesting... I don't know how the main event is, but for a tie-in this was an interesting idea. The execution was kinda lackluster though. Like Peter sees Gwen and just acts like a good guy, and she approves, and that's it. It's not really surprising and doesn't say anything interesting about the character that isn't obvious. And then "bringing her back" for five seconds... I don't know how I feel about that, kinda weird... I wish Peter had stood up for humanity in general, instead of just showing how he's a good guy. Like, he should've told the Celestial to bugger off, and let it know that it is the villain here. It's weird that he doesn't defend humanity at all. Even his own good actions feel weirdly filtered through the need to impress a Celestial, which is just weird.
Hmm, that wound up being more of a bad than a good...
Oh yeah, there was that Living Brain story for the 60th anniversary. I like the idea of that story. Again, it kinda flopped in execution, coming off more as a parody than anything. Peter's friends definitely should've realized he's Spider-Man. And all the villains are so... odd. It's a parody that isn't funny, even though the idea is decent. Ock doesn't even reference that the Living Brain was once his minion! (Does he remember that?)
Okay, that was more negative as well... Okay.....
THE BAD
I'll start small. In that Tombstone story, there's a scene where Tombstone kidnaps Peter (not Spider-Man), and Peter jokes and makes fun of him, and then Tombstone goes, "You're weird." Tombstone should've figured out he's Spider-Man. I swear, I thought that was about to happen. Peter is not acting like a regular person, and Tombstone's not a goddamn idiot. I was waiting for him to be like, "Oh, it's you. You're Spider-Man. Good to know." That could've been a great moment, Peter's own loud mouth outing his identity, but naa...
Also, though Wells gets Tomby and writes him okay, Wells also dunks on my boy Richard Fisk. Why has no one taken Rose seriously since the 80s? He was such a great character back then. Now he's just another mobster. Has Wells even read those stories? He must have, since he uses Hobgoblin a bunch, and all those things were happening at the same time. Sigh...
Nothing with Norman works at all. I mean, look, I get it, this was a thing Spencer did. And it didn't work then either. And I do respect that they're actually exploring the concept and trying to make something out of it. But it just fundamentally doesn't work. When Ock became Superior, it worked because he still read like Otto. But this Norman... this isn't Norman. This is a new character who so happens to look like Norman and technically has his past. But it's just... not Norman.
While I'm at it... since I did read that Gold Goblin series as well.... Queen Goblin immediately loses all the intrigue she had in Beyond when she goes up against Norman. This just emphasizes the "Sins" thing, which is too woo-woo magical to make any sense or feel real or tangible at all. The stakes are unclear. It just doesn't work.
(On the other hand, the Mary Jane & Black Cat series is the most fun I had during all of this. Like, the plot is nonsense and it's a bit tied into the Paul stuff to really be recommend-able... but the writers there made the most of the shitty stuff they'd been handed and wrote a fun five issues. Good art too. S'ym is great.)
Oh yeah, the art is terrible. I'm not a JRJR hater -- he's hit-or-miss, for the most part. His work on Daredevil in the 80s is brilliant, and his Mephisto redesign is excellent, the only Mephisto that really feels like some otherworldly Eldritch horror. But this run... this is JRJR at his absolute worst. It's not good art.
THE DARK WEB
Okay, so... Like Beyond, I didn't hate this. I didn't like it much either, but it had its moments.
Rek-Rap is great. Just... just everything about Rek-Rap.
I like all the X-Men tie-ins too. In Dark Web, I mean. That one-shot issue shortly before Dark Web where fights Moira or... or whatever that was... That was dog poop nonsense boring shrug. But Dark Web has fun ideas that organically incorporate the X-Men.
I mean, it's really weird that you have a story where Goblin Queen and Queen Goblin are running around at the same time... They, uh, probably should have found a different name for Queen Goblin....... Can she just be the new Red Goblin, since the old one isn't coming back anytime soon? Or a new Menace? This is such a weird naming thing, and letting Peter (or was it Ben?) make a joke about it did not assuage that confusion...
But yeah, teaming up the two most iconic Marvel clones is such a natural move that built for some good drama, even if that drama is built on, um, completely character assassinating Ben...
Okay, here's a positive: the Chasm suit is cool. It's a good suit. I like the suit.
But holy hell Ben (literally?), this is waaaaaay off the deep end. Remember that time in the 60s when Peter lost his memories and teamed up with Doc Ock, but at the end he came to his senses before getting his memories back, because he's inherently a good person and knew this wasn't right? Why can't Ben get that treatment? I mean, okay, I guess he didn't just lose his Uncle Ben memories, but also kept a bunch of traumatic ones... except, apparently, he still forgot about getting killed and resurrected twenty-something times. I thiiiiiink that one's gone too... So he lost his most traumatic memories as well... So he really just has the, uh... mid-memories?
I like when Jean helps Madelyne. That was a good moment. Just gives her memories back, and then Madelyne helps them. Well done. Love it.
So, um, she can totally do that for Ben too right? Like, she's an omega-level mutant and just showed that she has this ability? Why didn't they just do that again? It's not like Peter would've been against it. Really doesn't make sense.... Heck, they could still do this. Ben is right there. Just... just ask Jean to give him his memories back. It's that easy.
Janine still rocks. I love the bit when she almost runs away, but gets recognized, and then comes back more committed to Ben than ever. Janine is an awesome character.
It's funny that there are like five redheaded women in this story, and they're all drawn exactly the same.
THE PAUL...
So...
That was stupid.
This most recent arc literally opens with a note from Nick Lowe, promising that they all really do care about these characters. See that, guys! They do care! Don't mind everything you're about to read, they promised us that they care! Not sus at all...
Making this whole thing a flashback was stupid. Like, there's this whole mystery box storyline... Then when you get to the reveal, it's just 90% an extended flashback, because there isn't really a good way to tie it into present day. It's almost like they should've just done this chronologically to begin with. None of their teases actually made me care. It's all just shallow "hype." (I mean they wanted it to be hype, but I wasn't hyped, so... Like I said, shallow.)
Who the hell is this villain? From the editor's notes, I've definitely read the story arc where he first appeared. I do not remember it. I do not remember him. He is so beyond forgettable that my brain hasn't even stored him as a footnote.
And he isn't fleshed out here either... Most of the time, I was just confused by who he is and what he wants. I'm not even sure how many of these villains there were. Are Rabin and the God the same? Wait, is Rabin the bearded guy? I think they said Rabin was someone else, Paul's dad or whatever... I don't know, I couldn't really follow it. It feels like remembering that forgettable story from Brand New Day era is essential to understanding this one, and I just... I don't. Bring back Freak. Bring back Paper Doll. Those guys I remember, not well but they were fun enough and had cool powers. But this guy? Who the hell is this guy? (And is it racist? It feels racist.)
At least set up the Mayan stuff earlier in the run... Like, with all the mystery box teasing, they didn't actually tease anything. Spider-Man vs Mayan Gods? That's your big story? That feels like something the 60s cartoon would've tackled in its weaker seasons...
Oh, and they Amy Ponded MJ. That was just dumb. This is the kind of random scifi poop that has nothing to do with reality. Good scifi challenges characters and forces them to reveal character in a way that relates back to the real world. Like Into the Spider-Verse uses Peter B Parker to mentor Miles and has both characters grow. The glitching rule is added in so that Miles will have to be the one to stay, so that it can remain fundamentally his story without snapping away the problems by having the more experienced Spider-Men do all the work. Or that Amy Pond story I referenced -- that's an amazing episode of Doctor Who (Season 5, "The Girl Who Waited," strongly recommend), because it challenges the Doctor's readiness to play with the timestream and bring along a string of companions, and it also challenges Amy's readiness to trust the Doctor and assume he always has everything under control. It feels organic to the larger scifi rules in play, and reveals a ton about both characters, with this tragic underpinning that is earned and emotional.
But this? This is just more pettiness. This is just the Spider-Man team not caring about the character (no matter what Nick Lowe says) and wanting to mess things up with MJ... because reasons. It doesn't tell us anything about Peter or MJ that we didn't already know. Heck, they don't even feel in character half the time. Or rather, MJ doesn't really feel like a character at all.
There's this one part where The MJ Who Didn't Wait and Paul get super bulk and Terminator-y during the flashbacks... and then like a page later they're normal sized again. What was that about?
The whole thing is also rushed, not that I wanted them to stretch this out any longer. None of the beats in the MJ flashbacks are fleshed out at all. We're watching a snippets montage of some story we'll never read. We don't get connected to any of the events.
I felt nothing when the kids vanished. I felt nothing when freaking Mary Jane Watson was stabbed to death. And I felt nothing when it was revealed to not be MJ but Kamala. Like, these are characters I traditionally care a lot about... and I just feel nothing and don't care what happens to them in these stories.
That Kamala Khan bait-and-switch? Damn, that was trash writing. I'm not up to date on Kamala's books either (I haven't been since Wilson left -- couldn't get into the following run). But to kill her off in someone else's book??? With none of her supporting cast, none of her villains, heck not even a real Spider-Man villain for that matter... (Again, who the hell is this stupid boring Mayan God guy? What is actually at stake right now? Does he have a personality? Motivation? Is he a racist concept? I'm still not clear on these things.) Kamala "dies" in the dumbest way possible. Well done, Mr. Wells. You aimed to write an incredibly stupid book, and you succeeded.
Heck, Kamala wasn't even a character in this arc. The last time I recall seeing her was during Dark Web. She isn't in ASM 21-25. She just shows up in #26... to die. That's so stupid. This character deserves more than that.
Also, MJ deserves more than this.
Peter deserves more than this.
Heck, even that Mayan guy deserves more than this. At least give him a personality.
IN CONCLUSION...
If any of you actually read all this... uh, I'm sorry? I just needed to vent and mark down some thoughts. Curious on other people's thoughts. I mean, I think I know most of them (I don't live under a rock and did have some spoilers going into all this).
Can we please just retcon all this already? Just do some time travel shenanigans and pull in MJ from before all of this. It worked for Doctor Who.

2023.06.07 00:19 Ok-Committee1978 Looking for compassionate advice as to how to deal with my neighbour

I don't want to give too many identifying details, but we think our neighbour is smoking heroin. Our unit reeks of bad vinegar smell on a regular basis, and it's usually when he's home/shortly after he arrives. We don't know how to approach him about it.
We truly don't care what drugs he is or isn't doing and we don't want to potentially get him in trouble with our landlord, we just want our house to smell normal again and to stop feeling sick if we spend more than an hour in the smell. It used to be just kind of distracting, and only for an hour or two, but now it's like a blanket of bad smell for entire afternoons/evenings. We also have cats who might be affected by this in ways we don't know.
So far we've put 3-4 filters in all our vents, which did help for two days, but the smell has been permeating.
Have you worked with addicts? Have you had a similar experience with a neighbour? Could we be totally wrong and the awful mix of vinegaburning plastic/BO is some other thing? (We're kind of hoping!) Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

2023.06.06 23:51 JewJitzutTed 2011 Hyundai sonata maintenance

I’ve had this car since 2018 and so far the only maintenance I regularly do is new oil every 5000 miles, and i replace mechanical parts when they make weird sounds, and i replace the engine and cabin air filters every 18 months. I have driver about 65000 miles since I’ve gotten it. What are some must do maintenance I should do? I’m guess I’m due for new coolant, what about transmission fluid?

2023.06.06 23:25 Lucky-Helicopter-85 Open Letter to Pexels

Yesterday and today, I spent an hour trying to find a video I used in a project, so I can link the video's creator, but I just can't find the video.
When I search for "cute asian girl dancing" , I get 44k results! Not very helpful. In fact, even when I search for the video's name, "pexels-rdne-stock-project-8113100-1080x1920-30fps.mp4", I get 44,000 results! I found the creator, RDNE, but they have a zillion videos and photos and after 45 minutes scrolling as fast as your site will allow, I'm giving up. How often does this happen?
I feel like what you call search filters are barely worthy of the name. You shouldn't have a search field where people can type, because it leads one to believe they can find something from text. I'm not sure if your contributors are all tag spamming, or if you just don't use tags when someone uploads, or you limit tags to 5-10 general things, like "art, technology, sports", etc., but whatever the reason, the result is you can't find anything specific on your site, beyond these general topics.
Searching for "cute Asian girl, black dress dancing" produced a video of a little black girl and an Asian boy, which shows you have some sort of tagging (good work!), but it also shows you don't limit results to videos containing all the tags and there's no option. My favorite kind of search engine requires all the tags and if there are no results, removes the must include function. I also got videos of cats and guys wearing space suits and all sorts of other stuff, which your servers wasted my time and your resources serving to me as I scrolled and scrolled, to no purpose. Eventually I gave up and went through my browsing history till I found the right page.
The result of a poor search engine is that creators like me, who would love to use the images and videos on your site will never see the content we would use, because it can only be accessed by scrolling for 12 hours, through completely unrelated and unwanted content. Finally, like me, after scrolling through stock they do not want or need for countless minutes or hours, they will likely get tired of it and go elsewhere. I was going to try using Google to search your site, since this has worked for me in the past on other sites, but most folks won't bother to do this.
Please indexing your database properly with descriptive text. You can do this now using AI tools such as BLIP or Deepboru, so it won't me much work, but will add so much value to the site. You have such an awesome resource here and I feel like you're letting down your contributors, because their work can't be found using your search tools. If you improve your search engine, you will probably greatly reduce unnecessary site traffic while multiplying the number of stock images and video being used.

I just got quoted 1114 for getting this work done on a 2017 Tacoma OR V6. Seems a bit pricey. Thanks!

2023.06.06 23:06 NuggetsBonesJones Birdfeeder update

A while ago I asked for advice on buying a birdfeeder. I have gone through a few options and thought I should post again about all of the great birds I have seen.
Feeder 1 – SaffloweSunflower. I started this with Safflower seeds and it immediately attracted house finches, cardinals and tufted titmouse. They eat through those seeds very fast so I started mixing black oil sunflower seeds. I have also seen brown headed cowbird at this feeder.
Feeder 2. Bug berry nut suet. I took the advice of reddit birders and went to wild birds unlimited. They recommended the mealworm and berry suet. This has attracted the Carolina chickadee, tufted titmouse, blue jays, brown thrasher, and mockingbirds.
Feeder 3. Seed mix suet from Lowes. I thought we didn’t have many squirrels in our neighborhood but once I put this up, they found me. The squirrels will eat a lot faster than the birds so sometimes I have to cut them off. This feeder attracts many of the same birds mentioned above except for blue jays who prefer the bug and nut. I have noticed what I think are chipping sparrows on this feeder. To be honest there are so many sparrows that look the same so it’s hard to tell.
Ground birds. There are a few who only peck around the ground and can’t seem to manage the feeders. Mourning doves and robins peck around the shells and dropped worms. If I forget to fill the feeder then cardinals and finches will scour the ground.
I'm looking out the window now and there is a blue jay at the feeder. One comes, caws a few times and then the other comes and they have a snack. This happens every day several times throughout the day.

Edit: for a list of birds that i see

house finch
cardinal
tufted titmouse
carolina chickadee
blue jay
robin
mourning dove
chipping sparrow ( I think. it has a black band of eyeliner that goes to the back of the head. Other sparrows have brown eyeliner bands.
Cat bird? maybe seen once. it was mostly grey and I couldnt see too well. I could be wrong about his one.
Brown headded cow bird
Brown thrasher
mockingbird
European starlings- these are mostly ground birds. i don't see them often but did see them today.

2023.06.06 22:39 jamesfoley E46 M3 - Fuelling issue?

I have been chasing a weird issue with my 2001 E46 M3 for like 6 months now which feels like it could be fuel.
The main symptom is intermittent hard starting were randomly it would decide to struggle to start with zero pattern at all. I've also had the car instantly stall on me when starting.
I have zero codes, and the only thing I have to go by is a weird looking OBD log where fuel trims creep into the negatives and the fuel system status goes to "8", aka "Open loop due to system failure".
It's had plugs, coils, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel regulator, fuel regulator vacuum hoses, crankshaft sensor, and pre-cat O2 sensors. It has also had the VANOS rebuilt and the engine timing corrected.
I've just thrown a refurbished set of injectors in and it seems to start better with improved throttle response, but the OBD logs look the same.
Here is an example: https://datazap.mejamesfoley/e46-m3-new-injectors?log=0&data=1-2-6-8
I have loads of these logs throughout the process of replacing parts and they all look the same.
At this point I have no idea if seeing a fuel status of 8 is normal? I'm guessing it's not, but I honestly have no idea where to go from here.
Is there something fuel related I've missed? Is there another sensor I need to check that is linked to the fuel system being in open / closed loop?
The fuel trim always creeps into the negatives after resetting the adaptations, which suggests its rich for some reason?
The only vague pattern I can see is that every time the fuel system status goes to 8, either one or both of the pre-cat O2 sensors read 0v.
If anyone has even the slightest idea of what might be up please let me know, it would be super appreciated. Happy to provide any reading or logs anyone needs.

2023.06.06 22:38 Hrspwrz You guys are my last hope

So I haven't used my kitchen cabinets in months from an accident where some kind of cleaning wipe are through some kind of varnish like substance (all I know is it's really tacky uncured nasty crap)
I've tried everything I can think of and nothing seems to completely eradicate it however I can get some of it off little by little.
I have no way to move out at the moment and even tried to pay the office to put me in a new apartment unit so I've been using makeshift boxes as cabinets.
The thing is, most people just call me crazy or whatever but when this substance was first brought to my attention as a problem with the cleaning wipes at its worst, just a little bit getting on my lips from scratching my beard was the most bitter taste in my life and I had to go to the ER for a hole burned in my asophogus because of it and I puked blood for a few days.
People blamed my diet for that when I've never had asophogus problems before that. That's what you call an onset. Anyway not even gojo hand soap for mechanics could get the tacky half cured crap off my hands easily. Only after scrubbing my hands a lot for two whole days usually after getting them covered in the tacky substance was it gone.
This must be like such a small amount causing a tacky feeling on my hands it was insane. I tried to get the substance off my hands with solvents too but it was like a really light spray of spray adhesive was dusted on my hands for 2 days every time I got a lot of it on my hands.
Another problem is before I could figure out what to do: my girlfriend came in and tired to clean it with soap and water and pretty much just smeared the half cured substance all over my kitchen cabinets and we were literally screaming at each other because she's so obsessed with being clean and used to clean my apartment or literally start raging at me: she hasn't been over since.
So I've asked forums and Quora and reddit and they have mostly actually gaslit me and literally called me crazy over this when I literally have medical records proving this substance burnt a hole in my asophogus and I know if it is varnish and I carelessly use cabinets I could end up with bone marrow cancer from benzene.
So something in the back of my head thinking about uv lights caught my attention and I remembered people look at paintings with uv light and that paintings have VARNISH
And people ranging from 130iq upwards have gaslit me, dozens of people over this on the internet and not one single person even suggested being able to find varnish with a 365nm wavelength uv flashlight.
Turns out forensic scientists use this wavelength of light to actually figure out which parts of paintings have been retouched, with varnish.
So this is why you guys are my last hope to use my kitchen and feel like I can actually clean the mess because if I can see the varnish I can eradicate it.
I've been spraying lemon essential oil mixed with Murphy soap oil once every couple weeks and then later wiping down with water over every surface cause I'm blind as to where it is by eye.
I have no idea where to apply elbow grease.
I do know with enough effort small areas could improve dramatically from the messy tacky stuff.
I think if this wavelength of light can pick up whatever substance it is, which it will of its an oil as well I think just shine something else probably dark blue instead of a green haze like varnish but even then I should be able to see any oil based mess that my eyes can't see due to refractive index correct?
What I need your help with is I have a budget of like 40 bucks tp get flashlight and on Amazon I've seen some advertised for 365 but they look like a lot of fakes.
I need something that's the real deal for finding varnish touch ups but using to clean this problem with my 90s cabinets that are literally starting to crumble and degrade at this point so I can find most of the actual mess. Going forward after this ordeal I will never use a random clean wipe on stuff again tbh but also I'm only going to cleM the cabinets with mild soap and water when I'm done.
Also I'm going to get a ton of silicone mats and custom cut them to the size of cabinets and countertops to have an actual clean surface I can hot soak in my tub for hours to clean with more caustic chemicals that WILL remove whatever crap this is
For the cabinet walls I'll need to find a thin film weak adhesive plastic that I can easily cover them in that won't damage any finish. I've seen some years back at my step dads tow shop but never knew what it was called.
Also I need help on 365nm and safety concerns. How badly will it hurt my skin and eyes to look for this stuff for a few days maybe a couple hours a day? Is there glasses to protect my self? Would those glasses still allow me to see whatever fluoresces off of the uv light? I saw a uv bandpass 365nm 49mm light filter I think will fit my e mount lens as well, this would theoretically give me a thermal camera so to speak except whatever fluoresces off the uv instead of heat, and even protect my eyes and possibly get around not seeing what fluoresces from glasses protecting my eyes blocking the wavelength?
Anyway I just need help on finding proper equipment 🙏 and if my idea will even work

2023.06.06 22:02 MechanicalTravesty How are you going to die?

I'm going to be killed by a group of 20 armed men who show up at my door three months into the bad time, "asking" for food for "their kids". I'll refuse and maybe get three of them before one of them decorates my doorframe with my brains. OR...
... I'll be on Day 267 of my epic "I am Legend" survival fantasy, making another trip to my water source on my uberbike and run over a twig, go over the handlebars and break my arm in just such a way so as to not be able to defend myself when the rabid two headed mutated dogs come to tear me apart. OR...
... I'll be sitting on my toilet throne surrounded by mountains of toilet paper, chuckling to myself over my foresight and listening to the screams of the single mothers outside on the street as they forage for anything, ANYTHING to wipe their poor child's ass, when I'll have an unexpected aneurism and be eaten by my cats. OR....
... I'll die at the age of 93, in my chair beside the fire, the final ironic twist being the fact that I died completely naturally. My last dream will be to wonder at what never happened, the End Times I worried about all those years that never came, but I prepared, oh, I was ready, but the world didn't care about that. It just carried on, same as it always has, same as it always will, regardless of how much I worried about it. As my soul leaves my body, sudden clarity will come, the spiritual epiphany that had eluded me all those misguided years. I finally see The Light, the realization of how to make the perfect water filter.

2023.06.06 21:55 godlike_hikikomori As an intuitive(INFJ), I have quite a hard time getting along with sensors(XSXX). And, I would like help connecting with them on a deeper level.

Hey all,
People who have the sensor attribute to their MBTI tend to view things more attuned to their 5 senses. They may be more observant individuals than intuitives, but they may not see the bigger picture via prior cystallized knowledge and experiences. I understand that everyone is unique in his/her way of filtering information about the world, but this becomes a problem for me when I try to connect with sensors on a deeper level in conversational settings. Whenever I try to bring up meaningful conversations, like the feelings of myself/others, philosophy, video game/book lore, history, and politics, they tend to brush off my conversation starters and even be a bit annoyed by them. Sometimes they would actually talk a little bit about it as a response, but would then accordingly switch to another topic very quickly. I've noticied from my Sensor acquaintances that their conversations tend to lean more towards the daily life/small talk and technical/work type of topics. It's as if they have an aversion from seeing the bigger picture a lot of the time.
I've been meaning to broaden my horizons lately and hang out with more sensor folks, but I really do find the task almost impossible. Maybe I'm just destined to just stick with my close intuitive friend circle? Are all sensors like this? And, do sensors mostly just get by socially and emotionally by becoming "doers with others", rather than "thinkers and debaters with others"?
It appears that sensors and intuitives are truly like oil and water, but is this really the case in your experiences?
Need a bit help here....

2023.06.06 21:17 NexuswolfZ Should I be changing oil/oil filter - 1200 mi?

Just completed my first month with my new 22', almost at 1250 miles. Although the suggested oil change is at 5000mi or 6mo, I see some people changing their oil and oil filters with OEM filters around the 1-2k mi mark.
I'm fairly new to Subarus and this is my first car, is there a reason for the oil change and should I be doing the same?

2023.06.06 21:08 Horror-Sir7864 Car damaged during oil change

Took my middle aged SUV to a national oil change chain for what was supposed to be a simple and fast change. Within 2 days the car was leaking oil. Went to my mechanic who attributed it to a sloppy job / overfilling after confirming no active leak. It persisted and took it back a second time with same diagnosis. Fast forward a month, now they have found damage to the oil filter housing, which is attributed to the filter being installed too tightly. Oil is leaking into the exhaust system and there risk of catastrophic pressure loss and or fire. This is now a ~ $1500 repair.
Question is - Do I have Any legal recourse against the initial oil change provider? The leak started after they worked on my car but before my mechanic did so it seems apparent they did the damage. However, the filter has now been removed 3+ times by my mechanic before the diagnosis was made.
Moreover, for a $1,500 repair I’m not sure if the time/money to pursue action is worthwhile.
