Microlocs

Hi!! I noticed that there is a dreadlock community, but no community for us who have different types of microlocs (tinylocs, braidlocks, twistlocks, sisterlocks or more!) Hoping we can have our own forum to discuss our journeys! :)

2023.06.05 21:21 Clear-Seaweed-1800 just started loc journey, I am a little nervous

Hello everyone I have started my loc journey with type 4a-4b mix hair, I've never done something like this before and could use any advice anyone's willing to give
I started with two strand twists a couple days ago, and for my first question, I was wondering if the end loc would be thicker or remain the same thickness as the two strand twist? I really wanted sisterlocs or microlocs and my mom started them but they appear a little thicker than I envisioned. I don't want her to feel bad, and I'm okay with the thickness of the two strand twist now if it doesn't get thicker but if it does I'll figure something out.
The second is if I should do anything to help my starter locs along, i've heard a blend of 'dont touch anything for the next 5 months' to 'a daily spritz with aloe vera water never hurt and to wash every 3 weeks carefully'
The third question I have is when it would be safe to dye my hair?
And the fourth would be is it easy to find loctitians in other countries like Germany, Mexico, or Portugal? I plan on traveling in a few years and wondered if I need to learn how to do them on my own.
Thank you in advance

2023.06.03 11:02 AdSelect7072 How damaging are holes in my locs?

I looked this question up, but I never found a reason why holes are so bad and why I should avoid them. I just get results on how to fix them. If it’s purely an aesthetic thing, I personally don’t want to meticulously look to 300+ locs and fix the holes that I find (and there are bound to be at least a couple, because I have to retie my locs myself). Especially since the locks are so small the holes won’t even be visible unless you look at the individual loc by itself. If holes are damaging to my locs I would fix them of course, I just don’t know if it’s worth my time as of now.

2023.06.01 18:23 Connect-Worth-2540 I dont want to lose my hair is there anyway to fight this without chemo?

Personally my hair means a lot to me. I have microlocs and it took me around 3 years to grow it to this length. My natural hair sucks im not ready to start all over again in my hair journey. Its literally the only thing in my physical body that i truly love about myself.

2023.05.31 08:21 jazzespe510 What does budding on microlocs look like?

I'm finding tons of pics of larger locs with budding, but there aren't many with micros.
Since our locs are so small, what does the budding look like?

2023.05.30 03:21 Afraid-Yam9279 How do I keep my hair stretched?

So I have microtwistlocs and have I recently liked wearing my hair when it's stretched but it never stays stretched throughout the day, and it's very annoying because I have pretty short hair. How do I keep it stretched all day?

2023.05.24 19:27 nottoday1111 Knotted Locs?

Hello everyone. I've posted about this a couple of years ago in another sub when I first heard about it. It's a locking technique that utilizes a series of knots developed by a loctitian named Melissa Blake in London. She also states that by using this technique, a microlocs wearer can use oil and water as freely and as often as they would like without the risk of unraveling. She also states that by using this technique the hair will lock faster and reties/relocking will only need to be done seasonally. That's right... 4 times a year... She teaches this technique to DIYers via WhatsApp/Zoom.
I plan on looking into this some more as it seems difficult to get a straight answer from the loctitian herself and other people in general. It's worth noting that a sisterlocks YouTuber Tunisia Ali is making the transition from sisterlocks to knotted locs if anyone is familiar with her.
Here are some links about the Knotted Locs:

My questions for this community are as follows:
Has anyone heard of this technique? Has anyone tried this or any other type of retieing or relocking technique for their microlocs? If so, what are your thoughts?

2023.05.24 06:58 Miserable-Error2413 Type of locs vs personality type

What type of locs do you have and what is your personality like?
I’m 4 weeks in on my baby microlocs. It took me a long time to actually get them because I’m really laid back personality and all the people I knew with them were more type A and they made it sound so stressful . Like they said I had to braid and band my hair and how horrible it is but it literally just only took me 10 mins to do and I have a LOT of hair-it is so chill.

2023.05.22 10:38 Due_Sorbet_5821 Places to stay in Seoul

Hi all!
Going to Seoul first time in October 2023 for 9 days (may take a trip to Busan as well). Problem is which area to stay at? Almost everyone say Myeong-dong but some say it has become quiet and the buzz has moved to other locations (?). Location wise it woule probably be near everything. Also interest of staying in Itaewon or Gangnam but are they buzzling more during the night time?
I have been looking N28 Myeongdong but seems that the location is literally in the shopping street (not sure is it good or bad and the price for a three star hotel is quite high) Also Mondrian Itaewon, G2 hotel, Four Points Sheraton in Myeongdong and Hen na (the robot hotel). Good AC is a must but its really hard to determine a good microlocation for the hotel as it would be nice to have coffee shops and food around the corner. Hongdae seems like a good option too but would maybe prefer the other locations as a first timer.
Any tips are greatly appreciated!

2023.05.21 19:15 gay_wristwatch Washing, Interlocking Qs

Hi :)
I started microlocs about 2 months ago. I started with two strand twists, then had them retied with interlocking.
1) how often can i wash my hair? do i need to use a stocking cap if the roots are interlocked? my loctitian told me not to get my head wet or wash…which has sucked. ive been moisturizing my scalp here and there a little to help but obviously would like to just wash it. im 3 weeks from my next appt.
2) any leads on a resource to learn diy interlocking? i’m hesitant to just learn from YT videos because i’ve heard that improper interlocking can cause issues. looked for a course or something but didn’t have much luck. willing to pay 💰 for this.
TIA for any help

2023.05.16 03:00 Panda_KittyII I want dreadlocks again!

I had over 300 hundred microlocs which i combed out with a needle, because i wanted to do a wash and go. I lost the majority of my hair and I figured i would never get them again...But now I have box braids and they remind of what I liked about my locs, I miss them and have been considering getting small traditional locs, but I am afraid of making an impulsive decision, I have 3b/3c with 4a hair and it locks up well but I am afraid i will miss combing my hair and doing wash and gos again.

2023.05.15 16:37 clothing_enthusiast4 What’s the difference between starting Microlocs with two strand twists and microlocs with interlocking?

My hair is at least 20 inches, I want to do microlocs but I’m unsure of how I should start. Does interlocking take less time to mature and actually start to look like locs?
And is it too much to ask for interlocking at the beginning since my hair is so long? I don’t think many people would interlock for a reasonable price at that length. Is the better option to start with two strand twists?

2023.05.14 20:28 jazzespe510 Journey Started!

Journey Started!
After a 2 day, (22 hour) install, my journey has now begun! The install was completed last night, and this morning was the first time I was fully able to see my new hair. It's amazing, and tbh a little scary... after 10yrs as a loose natural, I'm learning my hair all over again.
Right now my hair wants to fall down the middle part of the grid. But will I be able to eventually rock a side part??

2023.05.14 11:53 knmllhcm Does getting locs/loc maintenance hurt?

I've been going back and forth with the idea of getting sister or microlocs for a couple years now and one of the biggest considerations (aside from time to install or retwist) is the potential pain of the process.
I would definitely describe myself as tender-headed, I have done a variety of hair styles, but I mostly wear braids. I have very thick 4C hair, and typically when I get my hair washed/blowed out/braided at salons the process is painful for me, and I make sure to keep my braids loose as well to prevent further pain. Can other tender-headed people who have locs tell me their experience with the installation and retwist?

If you've been on the microloc journey for awhile now, what are some things that you wish you knew before (or even after) starting your locs? Any lessons learned that might be helpful for newbies who are just starting their journey?

2023.05.09 19:04 jazzespe510 First wash after installation?

I'm curious how long folks waited to wash their hair after their locs were installed? I've heard anywhere from 2 weeks to 1 month, but the way my scalp is set up...lol
