2023.06.05 12:28 TherealPinkYEET aftermarket stereo wiring harness lighting wire/dimmer wire?

so on the back of the head unit there’s a white/orange for the lighting power switch terminal, and in the harness that’ll plug into the car there’s an orange (illumination) and an orange/white (dimmer+) from what i understood before i looked on a certain honda forum i should connect it to the orange and white wire because that’s the one that changes how much power it gives depending on the brightness of my headlights, where the orange one just gives constant 12v. however on this honda forum people were talking about how they wired it to the dimmer wire (orange and white) and it shorted their dash lights and was just a pain overall a few people said it so it was generally understood there to leave the orange/white alone, anyone with personal experience on this? i have a 2001 civic si btw any help is appreciated

2023.06.05 11:39 sylphofheart912 College student looking for new daily driver!

Hey y'all! I'm currently looking for something to replace my hand-me-down 2010 Ford Edge. It's done me well since high school, but I'm looking for a bit of an upgrade in the looks department and better gas mileage.
Location: Southern West Virginia, USA
Max Price: $25,000
Lease or Buy: Buy, Finance
New or used: Any
Type of vehicle: Car, sedan
Must haves: 4 doors. No plans to have children but I am very often designated driver for my friend group and I want my passengers to be comfortable.
Desired transmission : Automatic
Intended use: Daily driver - 20 minute city commute to work/school, 2 hour rural commute roughly every other weekend to visit family.
Vehicles you've already considered: Honda Civic, Accord
Is this your 1st vehicle: No, first vehicle purchase though.
Do you need a Warranty: No, but would be preferred
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: No
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No
Let me know if any more detail is needed! I'll be the first to admit that I don't have a clue what I should be looking for or other factors I should be considering. My family isn't very helpful in this department as they tend to make poor financial decisions and buy "fast car go brrrrrr" vehicles that they can't always keep up with paying for. I'd like to find something reliable that I can keep around for a long time.

2023.06.05 09:48 Plastic_Thought_9516 Finding the right repair shop

I have a few relatively minor repairs that need to be done to my 2012 Honda civic.
The only work I've had to do before is panel repairs so I'm not familiar with the different specialities and types of mechanics available.
Are there general all-rounder service centres that can manage all these issues, or will I have to go to 3 or 4 different shops to get it all done?
And what would I search to find the right places to go?
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Melbourne south east, inner or outer

2004 Honda Civic EP3 rattling noise
Initially thought it was something loose behind the head unit. Couldn’t see anything visibly loose after driving with it removed. The sound seems to be coming from behind the dash.. any ideas? Debris stuck in the vents maybe?

2023.06.05 09:01 PaleDisplay8801 2023 Honda Civic or Camry?

So I’ve been planning to buy a used car but recently decided to just buy a completely new one instead as I feel it had more value and was more worth long term. I was contemplating on weather I should go with either the new 2023 Honda Civic Sports or Ex trim or the 2023 Camry SE. I have done my fair share of research but never been too much of a car guy so I wanted some outside opinions!

2023.06.05 07:48 ChocolateCakeEater14 8 Night Trip in U.S. in November

I’m looking to go on an 8 night trip to somewhere in the U.S. in early November this year. I live in Orange County, California for context.
I’m weighing a few options and wanted to see if there’s any other places I should consider.
Seattle Went here Mid-August last year for 3 nights and I enjoyed the bike lanes, light rail, and other things related to urbanism. This was my first choice but I’m second guessing this because I’d be going during Seattle’s rainiest season this time and I went at a time of ample sunlight with no rain last year. I was thinking of just bringing a rainproof jacket and saying fuck it but I might be underestimating things.
Zion National Park With a one day stop at Grand Canyon National Park (I’ve never been). Talked to a friend about this location and he cautioned me about driving in the snow/other weather conditions (always dry roads here). I’d prolly be driving there with my own car unless it’s a better idea to fly to Vegas and get a rental from there.
San Francisco Did a road trip along the coastline from SoCal to SF in 2021. I didn’t get to explore the city too much that time so I’d be interested in exploring it more this time. One hangup is feeling like I won’t get a drastically different experience and feel like my vacation time was wasted.
Others Any other locations I should consider? And what do y’all think about my options

2023.06.05 07:47 cadrianzen23 First hand account of UAP 8 years ago

Hi all,
I just want to come out saying that I have zero proof or anything because it was such a random event, but I do have a witness in my ex who also saw this with me 8 years ago. Also not saying it’s an alien, but it absolutely happened.
I know everyone wants the smoking gun, but I figured I might as well share this with the only people who would be remotely interested. Here goes:
Southern California sky about 2014-2015 (will try to figure out exact year) I was visiting my exes girlfriends parents who live in Orange County a couple miles from the old El Toro Air Base. It was I wanna say about 11pm at night and the sky was deep purple my with medium high clouds not fully overcast but definitely cloudy.
We stepped outside for a smoke and walked across the street and sat on the curb to spark since we didn’t want to smoke next to the their home. As we’re chit chatting we’re both kinda looking up aimlessly and all of the sudden there is a MASSIVE black perfectly rectangular shape that flies overhead in complete silence. It was behind the clouds but it was immense. The strange part was for sure the shape and it’s size. It flies smoothly overhead, no lights, at a rate that didn’t appear quick but for its size it didn’t add up. My best guess is that it was a 400m wide and slightly longer to complete a rectangle.
I didn’t say anything for like 5 seconds and then turn to my ex and say “please tell me you just saw that?” And she says “yup, what in the world was that?” My mind instantly starts coming up with answers. I thought maybe it was spotlights projecting something? But that isn’t what spotlights look like. Too big to be a plane with no sound. Why was it that large? Balloon or gas? I was always interested in aliens so I tried to apply the usual suspects but none of it made sense.
I instantly checked Twitter for flying object local area and surf reddit go see if there’s anything but we didn’t see a thing. We both made a pact that we would not forget this story but he were super confused and don’t really know how to leave it.
It’s the only bizarre thing I’ve seen and hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge about flying objects and stuff can help answer this question for us. Otherwise, thanks for reading and apologies for not having enough details or evidence. I can still visualize it but it’s a while back now.
Edit: I just remembered I posted asking about it on Reddit when it happened! Here’s some clarification on the sighting:
The exact date was April 14, 2014 around 9ish PM PST. So not 8 but 9 years ago.
The shape was apparently circular and not a rectangle. Weird, I seem to remember it being square-ish but it was massive.
She actually asked me first, not the other way around. She does NOT believe nor care for alien stuff, so that validation from her asking me was important.

2023.06.05 07:38 hedwiqius On College Rock and the modern "College Alternative"

Tl;DR: I'd like to have a general discussion about College Rock and the concept of "alternative radio", then and now. What bands/sound make up the "canon" of modern college alternative for gen z? Is there one, or has the internet made music taste too individualized enough for it to be a meaningful concept?
Hey /LetsTalkMusic. I've lurked here for ages but this is my first post so let me know if I break any of the community etiquette.
Recently I've been listening to a lot of what is generally considered to be "College Rock", that subset of alternative bands which played prominently on college radio stations in the 80s and 90s. The likes of Joy Division, The Smiths, The Cure, New Order, Stone Roses, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Hüsker Dü; and then R.E.M, Pavement, Mazzy Star, Cake, the Sundays, the Zombies. Just a few that come to mind, and some of these broke into the mainstream but had their origins in college rock.
Obviously, these bands all have very different sounds and backgrounds, and yet it seems that they occupied this unified space in the culture of Gen X going through college. Despite not having been prevalent on mainstream rock/pop radio stations (save for some breakthrough bands like R.E.M.), most people who went to college in the 80s/90s are familiar with them.
Observing the current trends at mine and other colleges, it doesn't seem that a unified collection of non-industry musicians are being pushed in a similar form.
For the purpose of this post, I'll define the criteria for "college alternative" as modern music that is enjoyed uniquely by a college demographic, shares a similar context, and is pushed as the alternative genre without being represented by the music industry.
This is by no means an "old music was better" write-up. There are so many fantastic artists of various genres today. It is interesting that these artists, however, don't seem to share a distinct college movement in the same sense that the 80s and 90s had. This surely has much to do with the downfall of radio and the rise of internet. Music is now discovered through decentralized forms of media. There is no community of radio hosts curating a collective music taste for people to be exposed to upon entering college. Music is now much more individualistic, both in ritual practice and in taste. Where I attend school, a small percent of the students actually listen to the radio, and every student with a passion for music has a very personal, eclectic music taste.
The likes of Tiktok complicate this even further, as it popularizes musicians entirely separate from the mainsteam industry, but also does not push any unified sound. Songs on Tiktok can gain popularity regardless of their band, genre, or even era.
On the other hand, it could be said that there is still a collective consciousness of alternative artists, it's just that this space looks very different than it used to. With hiphop replacing rock in mainstream music, the alternative stream likely followed suit. While they don't dominate the radio, most of Gen Z recognize the likes of Tyler the creator, Kali Uchis, Daniel Caesar, Phoebe Bridgers, Rex Orange County, Thundercat, etc. My only hesitation is that each of these names have dubious industry connections that water down their "alternative-ness".
Then perhaps this boils down, in essence, to capitalism and the way that music industry functions. Many of the alternative bands of the 80s and 90s surely had industry connections that allowed them popularity over other thousands of good bands that never made it. In the 21st century, this is only more true as monopolies coalesce and music as an industry is more focused. There is no easily-defined alternative radio because any really "alternative" music is too detached from the industry to have a large presence in our collective conscience, so this music is confined to eclectic listeners who find them through streaming services or niche internet communities like this one. In some ways this is a good thing, as it allows for a much greater variety of music to take hold among young people. It can also be a detriment in that non-mainstream music loses its function as a social tool to connect with wides group of people with shared music taste.
Reigning it back in, I am curious about this community's perception of "College Alternative" music as it stands today. Does such a movement exist, or is non-mainstream music too individualized for that now? What bands would the modern alternative consist of if we were to define it?
Or perhaps College Alternative never existed as a movement, but was prescribed as a term after the fact, in the same way that Classic Rock is an umbrella to define whatever rock used to be mainstream.
Furthermore, is it a good or bad thing that the forum of music has changed in this way?
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your responses.

2023.06.05 07:28 Skazzyskills 2023 M3 RWD rear tire slow leak.

So obviously, this isn’t covered under warranty, but Tesla is quoting me $500 to fix this slow leak in the rear tire. Seems ludicrous.
Do you all take yours in anywhere else for issues like these? It takes a couple days for the rear tire to drop 5 psi. I do have a connection at the Honda dealership who used to do my Civic for family pricing… would you all feel comfortable taking your Tesla in there? Maybe I’m thinking over cautiously?

2023.06.05 06:52 Original-Pickle-4707 22M and 22M looking for a 3rd roommate in Manhattan! Early July move-in (~$2k)

Hey all! My friend and I are looking for an apartment in NYC for a July 1st lease but would love a third roommate (preferably a recent grad). We both just graduated and will work in finance. Our budget/goal is $2,000 per month per person, so around $6k for a 3-bedroom place. Our goal would be to live in FiDi, Tribeca, Chinatown, around NYU, or Chelsea (possibly other areas if the commute is alright). If you’re still looking for roommates, let me know! We can set up a Facetime.
More about us! I’m from Orange County, CA. I love tennis, and I’m a big movie guy and love creative writing and journalism. I also enjoy hiking / outdoorsy stuff and am really looking to explore the city. My friend is from Kansas City, MO, and loves traveling on a budget, anything KC, city adventures + outdoorsy stuff as well.

2023.06.05 06:47 AZtoOH_82 2016 Honda civic AC issues

So this generation of civic apparently has AC issues due to the refrigerant they is used (r1234yf). The compressor and or evaporator leaks refrigerant due to issues with seals and such. Anyway, I put some more refrigerant in the car and the ac goes in and out (its in the good zone with the amount of refrigerant it has). Has anyone had any luck getting honda to replace this system or even replacing the compressor with a new one to solve the problem. Honda hasn't done a recall on this and probably won't. What can I do?
