I didn’t accept his friend request

2023.05.28 20:27 Tough_Catch_4399 I didn’t accept his friend request

A few years ago, I dated a narcissist. He was emotionally, mentally and sexually abusive towards me and used my lack of dating experience against me. After 7 months of dating, I broke it off and ended up filing 2 police reports against him. Fast forward to present time, I received a friend request from my ex a few days ago. At first I was scared as I had blocked him from IG and FB and thought how is this possible?! Then I did some research and learned anyone can bypass being blocked by changing their email address. I thought about accepting it for the sole purpose of being able to press charges against him for harassment knowing he’d contact me but then a thought occurred to me. It’d be so much more satisfying to crush your fragile ego by blocking you again on FB and block your access to me knowing it’s driving you crazy that I’m not giving you the time of day. Once I blocked him again, I felt so proud of myself for not accepting that friend request.

“That’s Not Happening and It’s Good That It Is”

By Michael Anton February 26, 2021
Gaslighting getting you down? Feel like the regime has dialed the Megaphone up to, and past, eleven? You’re not crazy. It’s definitely happening and likely to get worse as our masters’ ability to cope with reality further worsens—or worse, they gain the complete and absolute control they seek. They’re both scornful and terrified of dissent, which explains why they incessantly shriek at us and lie to our faces.
So, to help you navigate the twitstorm, I present a guide to seven of the regime’s most common, oft-deployed lies. This is not meant to be comprehensive. I’m sure there are tactics they use that either I haven’t crystalized or that aren’t front-of-mind at the moment. I encourage others to expand the catalogue with their own observations. The better we can understand how they try to manipulate us, the better we can resist and counter it all.
Let’s start with the Unholy Trinity of ruling class horse manure. These first three are similar, but subtle differences determine the ways they’re used in differing circumstances.
The Law of Merited Impossibility
The coinage is Rod Dreher’s and goes back to the early debates on homosexual marriage. As Dreher formulates it, the Law of Merited Impossibility holds: “That will never happen, and when it does, boy will you [homophobes, transphobes, racists, sexists, whatever] deserve it.”
This Law is used, first, to disarm resistance to the latest leftist enthusiasm. Whatever the innovation is, it will have no adverse consequences. None! Puberty blockers and disfiguring surgeries have no downsides whatsoever. How dare you suggest they might!
Its second purpose is to dismiss out of hand “slippery slope” arguments—despite, or because of, the fact that every single such argument over the last twenty years at least has proved true. Worried that allowing people to “self-identify” as whatever sex they want will lead to pervy 50-year-old men exposing themselves to’ tween girls? Insist, loudly and indignantly, that that will NEVER happen and anyone who suggests it might is an alarmist bigot with a heart full of hate.
The third purpose is to enforce the new caste system. Those who get to impose fresh irrational indignities on the rest of us are the upper caste. Those who object, or even have reservations, are lower. The latter are not allowed to harbor, much less express, any doubts. Whatever humiliation the upper caste has planned for us, we deserve and must meekly accept. Hence when said pervy 50-year-old actually does start waving around “her” equipment in the girls’ locker room, if any parent dares object, let ’em have it with both barrels. That thing that ten seconds ago you said would “never” happen? Now it’s righteous punishment for the retrograde.
The Law of Merited Impossibility has done wonders for the Left in helping to ram through a wide variety of radical societal changes and cow into silence all opposition. It’s currently busy destroying girls’ and women’s sports, an outcome that we were assured would “never” happen. Though one wonders what the ladies did do to deserve it.
The Law is a bit passé, though, because our rulers rarely any longer feel the need to reassure normie Americans that everything will turn out OK, that the things we most fear won’t happen. Mostly, the holders of the Megaphone just skip to the second half, the angry insistence that we deserve it
The Celebration Parallax
A parallax is the apparent difference in position of the same object seen from different vantage points. For instance, an analogue speedometer that reads sixty miles per hour to the driver, but fifty to the passenger—even though the needle itself is only in one place.
The Celebration Parallax may be stated as: “the same fact pattern is either true and glorious or false and scurrilous depending on who states it.” In contemporary speech, on any “controversial” topic—or, to say better, regime priority—the decisive factor is the intent of the speaker. If she can be presumed to be celebrating the phenomenon under discussion, she may shout her approval from the rooftops. If not, he better shut up before someone comes along to shut him up.
Note also that the key distinction here is celebration versus non-celebration, not support versus opposition. One need not actually, clearly oppose the subject under discussion in order to be blameworthy. Declining or neglecting to celebrate it forcefully enough is enough. As in Stalin’s Russia, lack of enthusiastic clapping is regarded as opposition. The legitimacy of one’s right to state the same identical fact, in the same identical language, depends on who one is and what one thinks of it. Since the left presumes that all persons of color approve of the phenomena covered by the Celebration Parallax, the Parallax is really a test to distinguish allies from Deplorables.
To the best of my recollection, the origin of the Celebration Parallax arose from the need to defend “affirmative action,” a very unpopular policy since its inception. The party line therefore goes like this: People of color must be granted explicit preferences to overcome America’s “legacy of racism” so that we may “diversify” America’s power centers and end white male dominance, a move that—in addition to being necessary to address the country’s inherent racism—improves those institutions by infusing them with different and hitherto neglected points of view. Also, kids of color need “role models” who “look like themselves.”
But there is no such thing as “reverse discrimination,” which is itself a racist term, and there are no “quotas” (another racist term) whatsoever, but only “timetables,” “goals,” and measures to evaluate applicants and candidates “holistically.”
On no subject is the Parallax more prevalent than immigration. Depending on who’s doing the talking, the demographic transformation of the United States is either a glorious trend that portends a permanent Democratic majority and a more “vibrant” future, or else a “conspiracy theory” that is not happening in any way at all, no-how.
The Left insists that concerns from certain quarters that immigration policy in America (and Europe) amounts to a “great replacement” is a “dangerous,” “evil,” “racist,” “false” “conspiracy theory.” But a leftist New York Times columnist can write an article entitled “We Can Replace Them” and . . . nothing. [Redditor’s note: Michelle Goldberg calls for politically dispossessing white nationalists, not displacing white Americans from America.] Same fundamental point, except she’s all for it and her targets aren’t. A U.S. Senator can exult that demographic change will doom Republicans. [That is a link to a more or less openly white nationalist website.] Joe Biden himself can refer to an “unrelenting stream of immigration.” Except they’re celebrating it and calling for it. Anyone on the Right who uses the exact same words will not merely be denounced; the very fact pattern that is affirmed when Biden says it will be denied when the Rightist repeats it.
The Law of Salutary Contradiction
Which brings us to the Law of Salutary Contradiction, whose formulation is: “That’s not happening and it’s good that it is.” While the Law of Merited Impossibility applies to the future, this one is about the present. It’s what the ruling class immediately switches to after what they insisted would “never” happen is happening before everyone’s eyes.
Is the NSA spying on Tucker Carlson? That’s an insane conspiracy theory . . . which is also warranted by Tucker’s treasonous contacts with Russian officials as he seeks an interview with Putin.
Is the Biden Administration inviting in illegal immigrants, then putting them on military planes and shipping them to the heartland? Absolutely not . . . and these future Nobel Prize winners deserve their shot at the American Dream.
Once you learn to recognize this pattern, you see it everywhere. It is the cornerstone of ruling class rhetoric in the current year.
The Smails Exhortation
Turning from the Unholy Trinity, we see that the ruling class condemns all of us as entitled boors. In their eyes, we deserve nothing. We have no reasonable wants nor any just complaints. Our only role is to accept getting nothing and learning to like it.
Our masters bleat about “democracy” but have redefined the word to mean “getting exactly what we”—i.e., they—“want.” Any ostensibly “democratic” outcome that might result in us getting what we want is ipso facto illegitimate. Border wall? Fascist! Immigration enforcement? Racist and fascist! Law and order? Double racist and fascist! Better trade deals? Economically illiterate! An end to endless wars? Catastrophic! And also, somehow, “anti-Semitic.” Penis-free girls’ bathrooms? Transphobic!
No matter is too small, too local, too private, or too inconsequential to escape their gaze and slip their punishment. Bake the cake, bigot.
Mostly what they bleat, though, is anti-American, anti-white, anti-conservative, anti-Christian, anti-rural, anti-Southern, anti-Red-state, anti-redneck, anti-working-class hate. Every media organ and cultural citadel blares this message loudly and incessantly.
The purpose is hard to figure. On one hand, it’s demoralizing, which certainly serves ruling class ends, and it fires up their coalition. On the other hand, if you’re trying to boil a frog, it’s best not to tell him the plan, as he might try to jump out of the pot.
Which brings us to:
The Lie-Back Imperative
This tactic, and the next one, are related to what Steve Sailer has called “The War on Noticing.” [Steve Sailer is a white supremacist.]
The regime knows it’s in a difficult rhetorical position. The heart of its argument is that some people are inherently innocent and good while others are inherently guilty and bad and must be treated accordingly. To ears insufficiently attuned to this new understanding of justice, this can sound unjust. Tying moral worth to circumstances of birth? Nottreating people equally? Punishing the living for the sins of the dead?
Why all this is—contrary to appearances, logic, and common sense—“just” requires considerable explanation. To the extent that people “get it,” they will sharply divide between those who say that the “advantaged” have it coming and those who object “No, I don’t.”
The problem for the regime, therefore, is that while its message is very effective at egging on its own side, it can be equally effective at alarming and rousing its targets. The ideal solution would be to come up with a public message that rallies the regime’s base while lulling its targets, but this turns out to be very difficult, if not impossible.
Another option is to forbid the targets from speaking up—hence the Celebration Parallax.
But the regime’s preferred mode is not merely to allow its targets to speak, but to require it—so long as the targets deny the regime apparatchik said what she said. Hence the response to “You are evil and deserve what’s coming to you” must be “You don’t think ill of me and wish me no harm.” Every punch in the face must be publicly rationalized, by the victim, as a massage. The purpose is partly to bully the frog into staying in the pot and partly a matter of humiliation. In the oft-quoted words of Anthony Daniels, “a society of emasculated liars is easy to control.”
A great many “conservatives” are not merely willing but eager to play along. Indeed, whole institutions of the establishment “Right” do little else but reassure their ostensible constituency that the Left not only doesn’t mean its proto-genocidal rhetoric but isn’t even saying it.
It is an odd feature of the current year that calling an avowed enemy a liar—publicly insisting that her plain words could not possibly mean what they plainly say—not only fails to provoke an angry denial but is welcomed by the liar herself. Anything to keep the regime’s targets somnambulant for as long as possible. The more Americans who wake up and realize that contemporary leftism is a revenge plot with themselves as its targets, the more will object and try to stop it. This is what the regime, at present, most fears and is trying to prevent.
The Enmity Counteraccusation
This one is perhaps the most brazen. As I put it elsewhere, “the enemy calls you its enemy for recognizing its enmity.”
As regime hacks spew vile, borderline—and sometimes explicitly—violent rhetoric at you, they will immediately wheel and counterattack if you dare object. [Some guy on Twitter suggested Mr. Anton get the rope for predicting that George Soros would initiate a coup against the Trump administration ahead of the 2020 election.] Don’t appreciate being called evil because of your race? Then you are “divisive”! Dare put up your hands to block an incoming punch? That’s violence! You’re just supposed to take it.
They’re enemies who treat you like enemies while they insist that you treat them as friends. At least, though, unlike the housebroken “Right,” they stab you in the front.
A related point is that if you so much as speculate as to where their insane vitriol might lead the country, you will be accused of wishing for that outcome. It’s entirely possible that decades of anti-American, anti-white, anti-Christian animosity, coupled with nation-destroying trade, immigration and foreign policies, will not lead to civil war. Then again, it’s entirely possible that they might. If they do, the ruling class and the Left will bear the blame. Naturally, though, they will blame us.
Indeed, they already are. Attempts to head off such a conflict by warning about it are treated as provocations intended to produce said conflict. One can be forgiven for wondering if their plan is to start it and then say we started it, sort of like insisting Poland triggered the Second World War by shooting back.
“You’re worthless, baby; and if you even think of trying to leave me, I’ll kill you”
Which brings us to the last. Deplorable Americans are loudly and incessantly said to be the worst people in the history of the planet, pure unadulterated evil, with no legitimate concerns, interests or grievances.
Well, OK. Then why live with us? Why treat as anathema even the most moderate, banal, attempt to allow some measure of federalism and local control?
There can only be two answers: either our masters know (or intuit) deep down that we can live without them but they can’t live without us, or else they want to keep us around to administer what they view as deserved punishment.
Being neither a psychiatrist nor a theologian, I could not say whether the roots of this behavior are psychotic or demonic, but in this layman’s judgement, it exhibits key characteristics of both.
But understand this: they hate you and want you cancelled and ostracized, or at least utterly subservient and obedient. You owe them no consideration. Their every argument, every sentence, every word are proffered in bad faith. As Mary McCarthy said of Lilian Hellman, “Every word she writes is a lie—including ‘and’ and ‘the.’”
The regime is powerful, which means we must calibrate our resistance carefully. But to think clearly, our minds must be free. Which requires understanding its rhetoric and seeing through it. I hope this short guide is useful in that effort.

2023.05.28 20:08 Zekkenshi I fell in love with what I think is my best friend

So a year ago i met this person that we'll call Dee. I met Dee at a convention and we slowly starter talking on the phone the whole summer until we met again on september at another convention and after that day we grew a lot closer. After that we started seeing eachother in person a couple of times (we live an hour far from each other), we went to the cinema, went to their house or simply had a nice walk hand in hand. Before I continue I have to address that in the last 4 years I had lots of family and relationship problems and when I finally started healing Dee came like a glowing sun that brighted my days and on our third encounter when we went to the arcade (and man it was like in a movie) that extact day I realized I was in love with them. I didn't know what to do, I had conflicted signals from them like they would be so cuddling with me and then would tell me about they're past love story and how they hate rejecting their friends, so with that premise i had no intenction to confess because they became such an important friend in my life in such a short time, but everything changed in december. Basically in early december I went to their house to give them a present and when we said goodbye to eachother we both went for a kiss on the cheek and that ended up making us do a little peck, we both shrugged off by laughing but in the exact moment I was far enough i stared crying because i knew that from that day something would have changed, and it did. Dee started ignoring my messages (it was usual for them to reply after hours but it was taking days now) and even cancelled a day at the cinema that we had programmed weeks before, all that was killing me and i knew it was because of that so in front of me i saw 2 choices: 1) ignore everything and hope that this situation risolves itself; 2) confess my love by message and do all or nothing. I thought of what to do for 2 days I decided not to run and to confess, I made a 5 minutes long audio where I confessed my feelings and after 4 hours they replied admitting that they were ignoring me because of that kiss and that they dont think they can give me what i want (to this day i never understood if they didnt feel ready for a releationship or if the problem was me). After rejecting me they reassured me saying that they still wanted to be my friend but that they needed time to let the thing cooldown so i passed the entire christmas vacations crying and begin miserable. Dee contaced me again in late january and I was so happy, we starter talking and seeing eachother again like nothing happened but this time it was different, before all that i was the one always starting the conversations but now they would start too and i started begin delusional again but not too much because i didnt wanted to ruin everything again, so everything was great until they started telling me about their love life. They would tell me about past love interest or about a person they kissed the last night and I mean wouldn't be weird to talk about this thing to someone you know they have a crush on you? Do they really think that my love for them disappeared in one month or are they just ignoring it? Whatever the reason is I just kept listening to them and occasionally give some advise, so they started venting to me and slowly I started doing the same because i felt like they're the only one that understand me and they think the same about me. Our releationship kept growing, they started getting actively interested in my hobbies and interest by for example play my favorite videogame and we even slept cuddled a few times (the best sleep I ever had). In the last week they sent me some provocative photos that I gently corrisponded but I still don’t know if that means something for them or if this is still just their way to being friendly and yesterday they told me that calling me their best friend wouldnt be enough and called me my soulmate. Am I begin complitely delusional or are they just tricking me? I just dont understand but I can't take this situation anymore and I dont know what to do because I love them so much. I just would like to understand why they act like i never confessed in the first place.
P.S. English is not my frist language so I hope I expressed myself well

2023.05.28 20:07 SeaLife8195 Multi-part post hopefully it works…

I think my post was too long.
Part 1)
Yes, Absolutely they are completely incoherent. I’ll go back and fix them. I’m so sorry. Yep, different from the initial release. Meaning the season 12 episodes that were released 1 year ago is completely changed. Almost everything is different. I double checked with a few friends who listen to SWw at the same time so we could talk about it and they aren’t on on Reddit. And we all are 100% sure. I am absolutely 100% sure. It’s perfectly reasonable for TR to re edit her podcast. But this is a complete alteration of facts and an entirely different presentation of information down to Kenzie retelling events entirely different. This explains why people comment about the horrific editing quality.
First let me exclaim, what Joe did to Kenzie was wrong 100% . No one deserves to be lied to, or deceived. She deserves compassion and grace for the experience she went through. That is not in question nor is it my point.
My point is this podcast is supposed to be trauma stories, when you retool a story and change a seasons entire narrative and presentation while never acknowledging the alterations. You are literally gaslighting all of us who heard the first version. It’s one thing to tinker but this is an entirely surreptitiously and frankly nefarious edit. Here we are old edit listeners arguing with new edit listeners about the “bad credit” Kenzie got. Did TR never think anyone would re listen to seasons and not notice or did she bank on the lot of us having experienced trauma and thus having memory problems and recall (a very common side effect of abuse and trauma). Did she purposefully run the other mods off and shut the subs down to hide this former discourse. Tim foil hat who knows I can officially say this is my last time giving any energy to this. TR has done it this time and it’s appalling. I’m not angry I’m offended and insulted.
Also i didn’t record the podcast, I didn’t record Kenzies tik toks. However For reference when I would come on here to make comments I wanted something to trigger my memory so I did take screen shots of Kenzies Tik tok when it happened and comments people made. That are now entirely missing from Kenzies newly re edited tik toks. Some of the information is Completely missing, and Kenzie is now presenting or telling the story now completely different than she did in her initial unedited tik toks. If you watch them now you see how jerky the editing is, these tik toks used to be one shot walking videos some still are, but others are obvious edited and choppy. One example the video of her crying (people commented it was a dry cry, and that no tears could be seen, but now the tears are obvious and her delivery is significantly more hysterical. she leaves out an entire section of tik tok.
Anyways Kenzie deserves compassion. But Tiffany does not!!! And however she bamboozled Kenzie to record new information, to present the information and re-record info in a different tone. in a completely different light from a entirely different emotional and mental mindset. Kenzie on the new edit is skeptical, tough, and discerning requiring the sniveling pillow holding Joe standing in the doorway about to leave (he stood in the doorway but Kenzies original telling she makes an open ended comment that urges Joe to rethink his choice to leave her). Now she is like so what I don’t care but makes an open ended comment that leaves the door open for him to return which wasn’t how it was initially told, the first time she stopped him and urged him to think about way she he was leaving her). The new Kenzie edit requests extensive proof very early on in the relationship and now retells scenes from strong place of “ I totally am doubting this guy totally”.
They obviously did another recording after the release, and after all the criticism TR and Kenzie received. It’s like TR read all the complaints from the previous 2 sub Reddits that were shut down (funny how that happened I’m not beyond tin fouling that theory, now there isn’t a public real time 1st release reference to look back at).
But it can be double checked and verified in the unofficial FB meaning it still has the real time critics and complaints from the initial release 1 year ago. On the unofficial FB you can see Where people are all making these comments about the episodes. They are critiques that now make no sense presently of your listening to newly edited season because the episodes have all been altered, with information now deleted, new very detailed explanations, Kenzie is also now retelling parts of the story in a different tone stating she did all the research, she now did tons and tons hours upon hours of sleuthing, and required all the receipts and doubted Joe from the jump. The new edit contains what it appears to be. The new edit with TR, Kenzie and friends almost verbatim providing info which directly critiques , but not as a follow up Q and A but as a completely altered story with information, that Kenzie couldn’t even provide in her original unedited tik toks. So it’s “ new information and commentary” that was never included in the 1st release. The new information directly addresses critiques about the season that was lacking or caused confusion, there are so many I’ll list a few. some of which are completely new and makes no sense as to why this wasn’t provided in the first release.
See next post part 2.

2023.05.28 19:58 seobitcoin Yair Fridrich Explains: Sustaining a Global Economy

Yair Fridrich Explains: Sustaining a Global Economy
The world today is more interconnected than ever before, with nations relying on one another for trade, investments, and economic growth. In this article, we will explore the concept of a global economy and discuss the challenges and strategies involved in sustaining it. By understanding the factors influencing the global economy and examining successful case studies, we can gain insights into building a robust and sustainable global economic system.
Yair Fridrich explains that a global economy refers to an interconnected network of nations, where economic activities, such as trade, investments, and financial transactions, take place on a global scale. It transcends national boundaries and fosters collaboration among countries. The strength of a global economy relies on various factors that contribute to its growth and stability.
Yair Fridrich explains Sustainability in a Global Economy

Definition of a Global Economy

At its core, a global economy is characterized by the free flow of goods, services, capital, and information across borders. It is driven by globalization, which has enabled countries to specialize in specific industries and benefit from comparative advantages. Globalization has led to the creation of complex supply chains and facilitated the exchange of ideas, technologies, and cultures.

Factors Influencing the Global Economy

The global economy is influenced by several key factors that shape its trajectory. Understanding these factors is crucial in devising strategies to sustain a strong and resilient global economic system.

Trade and International Relations

International trade plays a vital role in the global economy, driving economic growth and promoting prosperity. Trade agreements and partnerships facilitate the movement of goods and services between nations, creating opportunities for businesses and consumers alike. Tariffs, trade barriers, and protectionist policies can hinder trade and impact the stability of the global economy.

Technological Advancements

Technological advancements have revolutionized the global economy, enabling innovation, efficiency, and productivity gains. Breakthroughs in communication, transportation, and information technology have accelerated globalization and transformed the way we conduct business. Technologies such as the internet, artificial intelligence, and automation have opened up new avenues for international trade, streamlined supply chains, and increased market access. Embracing and harnessing technology is crucial for sustaining a global economy.

Financial Systems and Institutions

The stability of the global economy relies heavily on robust financial systems and institutions. Banks, stock markets, and regulatory bodies play a crucial role in facilitating capital flows, investments, and economic growth. Maintaining transparency, accountability, and regulatory frameworks is essential for preventing financial crises and ensuring the smooth functioning of the global economy.

Environmental Sustainability

In recent years, the importance of environmental sustainability in the global economy has gained significant attention. Climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation pose significant challenges to the long-term viability of the global economic system. Adopting sustainable practices, reducing carbon emissions, promoting renewable energy sources, and protecting natural resources are essential for preserving the health of the planet and sustaining economic growth.

Benefits of a Strong Global Economy

A strong and sustainable global economy offers numerous benefits to participating nations and individuals. Some key advantages include:
  1. Increased economic growth and prosperity: A thriving global economy creates opportunities for higher employment rates, improved living standards, and increased income levels.
  2. Enhanced trade and market access: Nations with a strong global economy can enjoy expanded market opportunities and increased trade partnerships, leading to economic diversification and higher competitiveness.
  3. Technological advancements and innovation: A global economy fosters the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and technological advancements across borders, promoting innovation and driving progress in various industries.
  4. Poverty reduction and social development: A robust global economy has the potential to alleviate poverty by creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and providing access to education and healthcare.

Challenges in Sustaining a Global Economy

While the benefits of a global economy are substantial, it faces several challenges that need to be addressed for long-term sustainability.

Economic Inequality

One of the significant challenges in sustaining a global economy is addressing economic inequality. The distribution of wealth and resources among nations and individuals varies greatly, leading to disparities in opportunities and standards of living. Bridging the gap between rich and poor countries, as well as reducing income inequality within nations, is crucial for a fair and sustainable global economic system.

Political Instability

Political instability, conflicts, and geopolitical tensions can have adverse effects on the global economy. Unstable political environments create uncertainties that deter foreign investments, disrupt trade relations, and hinder economic growth. Establishing stable political systems, fostering international cooperation, and resolving conflicts through diplomatic means is essential for maintaining a stable global economy.

Climate Change and Natural Disasters

Climate change poses significant threats to the global economy. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and natural disasters can disrupt supply chains, damage infrastructure, and cause economic losses. Developing strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change, promoting sustainable practices, and investing in resilient infrastructure are necessary steps to protect the global economy from the impacts of climate change.

Strategies for Sustaining a Global Economy

To overcome the challenges and sustain a strong global economy, various strategies can be implemented:

Promoting International Cooperation

International cooperation and collaboration are vital for addressing global economic issues. Nations must work together to establish fair trade policies, resolve conflicts, and implement coordinated approaches to tackle economic challenges. Multilateral organizations such as the United Nations, World Trade Organization (WTO), and regional economic alliances play a crucial role in facilitating cooperation among nations.

Investing in Infrastructure and Innovation

Investing in infrastructure development and fostering innovation is crucial for sustaining a global economy. Policies and Regulations

Governments develop and implement policies and regulations that guide economic activities. These policies aim to ensure fair competition, protect consumer rights, regulate financial systems, and promote sustainable practices. Well-crafted policies and effective regulatory frameworks contribute to a stable and sustainable global economy.

Bilateral and Multilateral Agreements

Bilateral and multilateral agreements between nations facilitate trade, investment, and cooperation. Free trade agreements, investment treaties, and regional economic blocs enhance market access and foster economic integration. Collaborative efforts through agreements strengthen the global economy and promote shared prosperity.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank

International financial institutions like the IMF and World Bank play a vital role in stabilizing economies and providing financial assistance to countries in need. They offer financial support, technical expertise, and policy advice to promote economic growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable development worldwide.

United Nations and Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations (UN) plays a central role in promoting sustainable development and addressing global challenges. Through initiatives such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN encourages countries to adopt sustainable practices, reduce inequalities, protect the environment, and ensure social inclusion. Achieving the SDGs is closely linked to sustaining a global economy that benefits all nations and individuals.

Case Studies: Successful Approaches to Sustaining a Global Economy

Examining successful approaches can provide valuable insights into sustaining a global economy. Here are three case studies:

Nordic Model

The Nordic countries, including Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, have achieved remarkable economic success while prioritizing social welfare and sustainability. Their approach includes high levels of social protection, progressive taxation, investments in education and healthcare, and a strong focus on innovation and environmental stewardship. The Nordic model demonstrates the possibility of combining economic growth with social inclusion and environmental sustainability.

Singapore's Economic Development

Singapore has emerged as a global economic powerhouse through strategic planning, innovation, and attracting foreign investments. The country has prioritized economic diversification, developed a world-class infrastructure, invested in human capital, and created a business-friendly environment. 2023.05.28 19:57 ErinMaea14 Sent Home Without Pay

So it finally happened today… after having a bunch of issues with this particular warehouse for the past 6 weeks, today they refused to scan my license and sent me home without pay. I got there early, checked in and sat in a line 20 cars long waiting to drive up and get my license scanned. Guy didn’t scan my licence, didn’t tell me anything and when I got to the pickup location they told me that I arrived late and they had no blocks left for my specific time - my block time was 3:15am, I arrived at 3:13am, checked in and sat in line for 10 mins. Got to the license station at 3:22am. Took videos the whole time I was there showing the time and the line etc while I was waiting so I could document in case there were any issues or they tried to tell me I was late.
Argued back and forth with the worker who insisted she wasn’t going to scan my license because they didn’t have a block for me. Showed her the videos I had proving I was there on time but she said there was ‘nothing she could do’ because they didn’t have any more routes. I’ve emailed support with all the receipts and what happened but because they point blank refused to scan my license I don’t even know if I’m going to get paid…. This warehouse is notorious for overbooking so I know they were just trying to avoid having to send me home with pay so they didn’t get in trouble again. Warehouse is Newark, NJ, just so all of you can avoid it. I’ve never been so angry at a warehouse y’all, these workers truly don’t give a shit.

2023.05.28 19:56 drunkenDAYlewis Abby's creations (Bowness/Montgomery)

Address: 4703 Bowness Rd NW, Calgary, AB T3B 0B5
Price: Single Scoop $6,99 + 0.89 (cone)
Located in a strip mall along Bowness road, this ice shop could be easy missed if not for the bright yellow sign, this is much more then a simple ice cream parlor, also serving cakes and (correct me if I am wrong) coffee, although the focus appear to be mostly on ice cream.
Thier homemade ice cream flavors rotate often as they only have space for a handful to choose from, despite being more limited by quantity the flavors seem very well though out with a mix of classic as well as unique flavors. These flavors will and do vary depending on location which they have a few across Calgary and area.
Abby's creations (Bowness/Montgomery) also includes a candy bar that is available to mix in to any flavor of ice cream, creating a lot more diversity and options than one may assume upon first glance. (To keep our reviews consistent we unfortunately had to skip this feature)
I had "Vietnamese coffee" on my last visit and it was what I expected. The standard waffle cones left something to be desired in my opinion but they have many options of dipped cones. I understand that the waffle "bowls" are made in house but the cones are not so perhaps this note will get changed on our next visit.
6.3/10

2023.05.28 19:52 Whitegoodnesss What Highschool gave me: Lesson #1…

Im making this for anyone who is currently in, recently graduated, or about to be in highschool. As I have just graduated myself, there are a lot of takeaways that I have reflected on and would like to share. In the event maybe you’re homeschooled and never get to experience some of the hardships of the public school setting, I hope this offers a different perspective and some good thoughtful content.
The first lesson is (These are in no specific order): Maintaining a hopelessly optimistic, but grounded, outlook…
In life, being too trusting and over sharing can easily get you bit in the ass. However, so can being too negative and paranoid about things. While most people would leave the answer here as simple as “balance”, I want to elaborate.
Growing up, I was entirely too trusting. I got lied to a lot, and had a lot of my stuff stolen from me. As a result, I fell into a very lonely period of life where I felt like I couldn't trust anyone. I was constantly paranoid about sharing the things that I liked with people or even sharing the ideas that made me curious. Seeing how shitty I was treated, I felt targeted by everyone else and couldn't stomach the thought of being judged by everyone for the interests I had.
It was during this period of my life that I became insecure about pretty much everything. My enjoyment for legos, Hotwheels, minecraft, sandwiches cut into triangles, apple juice, Wii games, the shows I liked, my body, my voice, my hair, my family, our vehicle, our home, my clothes, etc… I ended up completely shutting out most of these things because the negative and self isolating thoughts I would get while indulging in them would start to be associated directly with those interests. I began losing my interests and only obsessed over the negative thoughts I would have about my insecurities and how I was such a “loser”. My personality was in shambles and I wasn't able to stand alone as an individual.
What does it look like?
Being hopelessly optimistic is to always give the benefit of the doubt and assume the best. Say for example you had a social interaction that rubbed you the wrong way. Just assume that rather than being mad at you over something stupid and getting offended at them for it, assume that something happened today to make them sad/upset, and they may not be aware of what they're doing. Then you can either give them some space, or ask what's up and try to make them feel better.
There is another lesson that I could intertwine here that is relevant but it will need a post of its own. It is: The extraordinary power of caring for people like family. I believe the sentence is pretty self explanatory, but even though there are malicious people in this world, 9/10 your kindness, care, compassion, and effort will be given back to you at an unexpected time. However, if you consciously expect things from the other person, and are not having them in mind when you think you are “doing things for them” then you may just be wasting your time because you didn't understand what the other person wanted in the first place. Which will leave you bitter and unhappy in the end. People can unconsciously tell when you are being genuine and caring or not.
The most valuable gift you can give someone is your attention, and the most pure form of love is caring - holding someone in your mind even if only for a second. Given what I talk about later and what I’ve already discussed about the path most children take in losing their interests and becoming something of a husk only to turn their negativity inward to self hatred. Think about how valuable your gift of caring would be for these people. Not many people are practicing this. We have a lot of thoughtful people in our society and a ton of really good quotes, but no one seems to value it enough to turn it into action. Let these words shed more light on the situation so that you may value/understand these people and quotes more.
The Answer:
The “balance” that most people would stop at when addressing this topic, is actually just developing your childhood curiosity again. It's not developing something new, or crafting some secret motivational potion. It is simply reawakening in yourself what you lost all those years ago. It's not all your fault, in fact, it may very well be entirely society's fault. However, when we blame it on society, we don't exactly have much control over it anymore right? So let's keep the ball in our court by picking the responsibility up for ourselves and deciding that there can be a betterment in our lives should we devote ourselves to it.
It is hard to be optimistic when you’re riddled with uncertainty and surrounded by an ever changing world full of ever changing people. Some would argue, the only thing you can be certain of is change, but even then, there are a few exceptions… To become more optimistic, develop your interests about the world once more, whatever it may be, look into them, nerd out, put 100% of your focus and commitment into whatever interests you and you will find that you learn more about the world that can relate and help you specifically than you ever could have before.
“But im stupid, I do bad in school”
The main problem teachers face nowadays isn't stupid children, it's simply uninterested children. Most children seem to have been stripped of their interests and since there are so many of them, the social media and markets now have a bigger audience of people lumped into the same situation and group to target. Now these kids become so heavily invested and distracted in these (sometimes destructive) media snippets and products that they appear to be a “lost cause” to previous generations.
When you become interested in anything, it can and will definitely open up new paths to understanding the other various parts of your life and reality. It may not be clear to you at the moment, but because you’re actually interested in it, and not being coerced into reading the same line out of a textbook for two hours, you will actively engage, value, and want to understand these topics. Which leads me perfectly into the topic of Lesson number 2: “Everything in life, even studies, are holistic”
Stay on task bro!

2023.05.28 19:46 sjclynn Upgrading a TS-451+ has gone bad

I have a TS-451+ that I was upgrading the 4 drive disks on. Everything was working normally, and I went through replacing the disks one at a time and waiting out the resync process.
I had completed the third disk and went for the 4th. I selected the drive for replacement, swapped in the new one and waited for it to be recognized. And waited and waited a little more. The last that I saw showed the volume group to be fine other than the removed drive.
After a while, the unit went non-responsive. The web GUI was not responding and remote mounts were not available. The console also did not respond.
I removed the 4th drive and power cycled the unit. Ther console is offering me initialization which is obviously not what I want.
The web GUI is up. It remembers its name and IP addresses, but the admin password is gone.
What I have to work with:
I have all three of the drives that have already been replaced and were OK before this went down. I have all 4 of the drives from before the replacement. I have not used the unit while it was being upgraded although some processes may have made minor changes.
What do I need to do to get the unit back operational and my data back?

2023.05.28 19:43 InsaneMemeposting Some of My Political Influences: An Observation

For my 2nd official Angry Observation I decided to have some fun with it so I will talk about some of my political influences and how they influenced me. I know everyone is going to expect me to put a bunch of right wingers and call it a day but I might surprise you. Anyways lets begin.
  1. Theodore Roosevelt
When Theodore Roosevelt was nominated as Vice President it was assumed that he would just sit there for 4 years and disappear as the party bosses wanted. They had seen what he was doing in New York with cleaning up corruption and passing popular things for the people and they hated it and how popular he was getting. In 1901 though everything changed. The president William McKinley, a conservative Republican assassinated by a crazed anarchist. Now Theodore Roosevelt, the man who the establishment and the elites hated the most was now president. Roosevelt realized that the country was broken. Regulations were not working and monopolies were rampant while the common man was being worked to death.so Roosevelt decided that he must use the office as a bully pulpit for the people and by god he did ushering in the Progressive era. During his time in office he passed regulations on Monopolies, he began the process of trust busting, he regulated the meat industry, he brokered an end to a war, and he created multiple National Parks, keeping with his goal of conservation. His influence on America is still felt to this day and I count him as an influence of mine because when the people needed a champion against the establishment he was there to combat the powerful in the name of the common man.

  1. Winston Churchill
Now this one will be controversial because of his racism and I do not condone that part of him. But I can't help but respect something about him. It is his determination to keep pushing forward regardless of the odds. It was something that he did throughout his life. Like for example when he was captured during the Boer War he escaped and walked 300 miles to his freedom. During WW1 his determination to keep moving forward did cost him with the Gallipoli campaign, a daring operation to knock out the Ottoman Empire from the war but instead it ended in a disaster which led to Winston entering the Wilderness years of his career. During this time he began to write about history and focus on the world while supporting his beloved Empire. In 1933 though things changed when Hitler rose to power in germany. Winston almost immediately recognized that Hitler was a massive threat to global security and began to speak out against Germany and the threat posed by the nazis. But yet no one listened. He was just some old man so why listen to him? Besides, no one wanted another war after the last one. So he was ignored even as Hitler put the country fully under his control and began to build up the military. As the years drew on and as Hitler continued the buildup and began to take over land the old man in the bowler hat was proven to be completely correct on the Nazis yet the leadership of the UK under Chamberlain thought if he just made a deal with the Nazis then there would be peace in our time. But once the Germans marched into Czechoslovakia proper once again Churchill, who by now had the support of the public again, was proven right. So when September of 1939 hit and Germany invaded Poland the UK was forced into the war and it was finally showtime for Churchill. He was almost immediately put in the cabinet and oversaw the defense. But PM Chamberlain was ailing so in early 1940 he stepped down and Winston Churchill was appointed PM of the UK. When Winston assumed power the situation looked dire. France was falling and Britain suffered a humiliating defeat at Dunkirk. But Winston decided to do what he did best and push through the adversity and talk to the people in the way he always did it, as the old but strong bulldog. When France surrendered people expected that the UK would surrender as well. But it didn't. Instead Winston vowed to keep fighting on, even though most logic stated that a surrender was the best option. And once again Winston was proven right. Even through the Blitz he rallied the people to the cause and provided a bulwark of strength through Britains finest hour. And he continued that hardiness throughout the war leading to the ultimate victory of the allies over Fascism and saving Europe in the process. So through all of that his story teaches us one thing to never give up. Never give in to pressure. And keep moving forward. And that is why he is an inspiration to me.
  1. George Washington
Now for the best president in American History George Washington. George Washington when he became president he had an amazing resume. A military man, he had served with distinction in the 7 years war and then led the armies of the rebelling colonists in a fight for their freedom from the oppressive British government. He had then retired after the war until the Congress called for him as president. The congress of the united states was already horribly divided between the Republicans of Alexander Hamilton and the Anti Republicans of Thomas Jefferson. But both sides could agree on one man for the job as president and that was George Washington. When he got there he immediately showed his character by refusing to be called his excellency instead he wanted to be called Mr President. As President he understood as the first president he would set precedents so he ruled with moderation, never overstepping his grounds and respecting the separation of powers. He advocated for a strong national government for keeping the peace between the states and practiced Neutrality between the US and Britain. When France exploded into a revolution Jefferson begged for the US to intervene to support France but Washington in his non partisan wisdom knew that the US was not ready for a war so he supported Neutrality. When Washington left office in 1797 he left a lasting legacy of moderation and setting up the country well with his precedents. But before he left he gave the first farewell address and warned us about the dangers of getting involved internationally with alliances like what happened in Europe. When he passed away in 1799 he was considered widely America's greatest citizen and to this day he is still revered. He is an influence of mine because he taught the importance of non-partisanship and ruling with moderation, never abusing the office for personal gain and doing what was right by the people.
And that was just 3 of my political Influences. I hope you enjoyed it and please if you want to write about your own influences go ahead I would love to read them!

The EPA allows polluters to turn neighborhoods into “sacrifice zones” where residents breathe carcinogens. ProPublica reveals where these places are in a first-of-its-kind map and data analysis.

Leer en español.
From the urban sprawl of Houston to the riverways of Virginia, air pollution from industrial plants is elevating the cancer risk of an estimated quarter of a million Americans to a level the federal government considers unacceptable.
Some of these hot spots of toxic air are infamous. An 85-mile stretch of the Mississippi River in Louisiana that’s thronged with oil refineries and chemical plants has earned the nickname Cancer Alley. Many other such areas remain unknown, even to residents breathing in the contaminated air.
Until now.
ProPublica undertook an analysis that has never been done before. Using advanced data processing software and a modeling tool developed by the Environmental Protection Agency, we mapped the spread of cancer-causing chemicals from thousands of sources of hazardous air pollution across the country between 2014 and 2018. The result is an unparalleled view of how toxic air blooms around industrial facilities and spreads into nearby neighborhoods.
📷 The Most Detailed Map of Cancer-Causing Industrial Air Pollution in the U.S.
At the map’s intimate scale, it’s possible to see up close how a massive chemical plant near a high school in Port Neches, Texas, laces the air with benzene, an aromatic gas that can cause leukemia. Or how a manufacturing facility in New Castle, Delaware, for years blanketed a day care playground with ethylene oxide, a highly toxic chemical that can lead to lymphoma and breast cancer. Our analysis found that ethylene oxide is the biggest contributor to excess industrial cancer risk from air pollutants nationwide. Corporations across the United States, but especially in Texas and Louisiana, manufacture the colorless, odorless gas, which lingers in the air for months and is highly mutagenic, meaning it can alter DNA.
In all, ProPublica identified more than a thousand hot spots of cancer-causing air. They are not equally distributed across the country. A quarter of the 20 hot spots with the highest levels of excess risk are in Texas, and almost all of them are in Southern states known for having weaker environmental regulations. Census tracts where the majority of residents are people of color experience about 40% more cancer-causing industrial air pollution on average than tracts where the residents are mostly white. In predominantly Black census tracts, the estimated cancer risk from toxic air pollution is more than double that of majority-white tracts.
After reviewing ProPublica’s map, Wayne Davis, an environmental scientist formerly with the EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, said, “The public is going to learn that EPA allows a hell of a lot of pollution to occur that the public does not think is occurring.”
Our analysis comes at a critical juncture for the fate of America’s air. After decades of improvement, air quality has, by some metrics, begun to decline. In the last four years, the Trump administration rolled back more than a hundred environmental protections, including two dozen air pollution and emissions policies.
The EPA says it “strives to protect the greatest number of people possible” from an excess cancer risk worse than 1 in a million. That risk level means that if a million people in an area are continuously exposed to toxic air pollutants over a presumed lifetime of 70 years, there would likely be at least one case of cancer on top of those from other risks people already face. According to ProPublica’s analysis, 74 million Americans — more than a fifth of the population — are being exposed to estimated levels of risk higher than this.
EPA policy sets the upper limit of acceptable excess cancer risk at 1 in 10,000 — 100 times more than the EPA’s more aspirational goal and a level of exposure that numerous experts told ProPublica is too high. ProPublica found that an estimated 256,000 people are being exposed to risks beyond this threshold and that an estimated 43,000 people are being subjected to at least triple this level of risk. Still, the EPA sees crossing its risk threshold as more of a warning sign than a mandate for action: The law doesn’t require the agency to penalize polluters that, alone or in combination, raise the cancer risk in an area above the acceptable level.
In response to ProPublica’s findings, Joe Goffman, acting assistant administrator for the EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation, said in an emailed statement, “Toxic air emissions from industrial facilities are a problem that must be addressed.” Under President Joe Biden’s administration, “the EPA has reinvigorated its commitment to protect public health from toxic air emissions from industrial facilities — especially in communities that have already suffered disproportionately from air pollution and other environmental burdens.”
ProPublica’s reporting exposes flaws with EPA’s implementation of the Clean Air Act, a landmark law that dramatically reduced air pollution across America but provided less protection to those who live closest to industrial polluters.
The 1970 law resulted in outdoor air quality standards for a handful of widespread “criteria” pollutants, including sulfur dioxide and particulate matter, which could be traced to exhaust pipes and smokestacks all over the country and were proven to aggravate asthma and lead to early deaths. But 187 other dangerous chemicals, now known as hazardous air pollutants or air toxics, never got this level of attention. At the time, the science demonstrating the harms of these compounds, which primarily impact people in neighborhoods that border industrial facilities — so-called fence line communities — was still in its early stages. The EPA did not receive enough funding to set the same strict limits, and industry lobbying weakened the agency’s emerging regulations.
In 1990, Congress settled on a different approach to regulating air toxics. Since then, the EPA has made companies install equipment to reduce their pollution and studied the remaining emissions to see if they pose an unacceptable health risk.
The way the agency assesses this risk vastly underestimates residents’ exposure, according to our analysis. Instead of looking at how cancer risk adds up when polluters are clustered together in a neighborhood, the EPA examines certain types of facilities and equipment in isolation. When the agency studies refineries, for example, it ignores a community’s exposure to pollution from nearby metal foundries or shipyards.
Matthew Tejada, director of the EPA’s Office of Environmental Justice, told ProPublica that tackling hot spots of toxic air will require “working back through 50 years of environmental regulation in the United States, and unpacking and untying a whole series of knots.”
Top Polluters
The cancer-causing air emissions from these five corporations cover more populated square miles than the emissions from any other companies, according to our analysis.
Most of these companies did not comment; Eastman said, “Not all risk is due to industrial activity, however, we continue to do our part to reduce risk and emissions to ensure the safety of our local community.”
“The environmental regulatory system wasn’t set up to deal with these things,” he said. “All of the parts of the system have to be re-thought to address hot spots or places where we know there’s a disproportionate burden.”
The Clean Air Act rarely requires industry or the EPA to monitor for air toxics, leaving residents near these plants chronically uninformed about what they’re breathing in. And when companies report their emissions to the EPA, they’re allowed to estimate them using flawed formulas and monitoring methods.
“These fence line communities are sacrifice zones,” said Jane Williams, executive director of California Communities Against Toxics. “Before there was climate denial, there was cancer denial. We release millions of pounds of carcinogens into our air, water and food and act mystified when people start getting sick.”

....
please read the full article here:

---
The cancer risks from industrial pollution can be compounded by factors like age, diet, genetic predisposition and exposure to radiation; the knock-on effect of inhaling toxic air for decades might, for example, mean the difference between merely having a family history of breast cancer and actually developing the disease yourself. While the cancer and asthma rates in Houston’s Harris County are comparable with those in the rest of the state, Texas officials have identified cancer clusters in several of the city’s neighborhoods.
Large swaths of the Greater Houston area make up the third-biggest hot spot of cancer-causing air in the country, according to our analysis, after Louisiana’s Cancer Alley and an area around Port Arthur, Texas, which is on the Louisiana border. For many homes closest to the fence lines of petrochemical plants in cities like La Porte and Port Neches, Texas, the estimated excess risk of cancer ranges from three to six times the level that the EPA considers acceptable.
But because of the way that the EPA underestimates risk, the true dangers of living in a toxic hot spot are often invisible to regulators and residents.
The agency breaks things down into the smallest possible categories “to avoid addressing what we call cumulative risk,” said John Walke, an attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council who formerly worked as an EPA lawyer advising the Office of Air and Radiation. “But our bodies do not parse out air pollution according to rule labels or industrial equipment or industrial source categories.” The cancer risk from each facility or type of equipment may be at levels the agency considers “acceptable,” but taken together, the potential harms can be substantial.
The EPA initially sent ProPublica a statement saying that it “ensures that risks from individual source categories are acceptable and that the standards provide an ample margin of safety to protect public health.”
In another statement sent after an interview, the agency added, “We understand that communities often confront multiple sources of toxic air pollution and face cumulative risks greater than the risk from a single source.” The EPA added that it was working both to better harness the science on cumulative risks and “to better understand risks for communities who are overburdened by numerous sources of multiple pollutants.”
Madison can’t help but notice that when her family travels, K’ryah’s asthma improves. “The first chance I get, I’m moving far away from Texas and never looking back,” she said. “I love being outside. I love seeing the stars. I don’t want to feel like someone is pumping gas onto our front porch.”
The locations of the hot spots identified by ProPublica are anything but random. Industrial giants tend to favor areas that confer strategic advantages: On the Gulf Coast, for instance, oil rigs abound, so it’s more convenient to build refineries along the shoreline. Corporations also favor places where land is cheap and regulations are few.
Under federal law, the EPA delegates the majority of its enforcement powers to state and local authorities, which means that the environmental protections afforded to Americans vary widely between states. Texas, which is home to some of the largest hot spots in the nation, has notoriously lax regulations.
Between 2008 and 2018, lawmakers cut funding for state pollution-control programs by 35% while boosting the state’s overall budget by 41%, according to a report by the Environmental Integrity Project, an advocacy group founded by former EPA staffers. A Texas Tribune story from 2017 found that during the prior year, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality had levied fines in fewer than 1% of the cases in which polluters exceeded emission limits. Even when penalties are issued, many polluters see these fines as part of the cost of doing business, said Craig Johnston, a former lawyer at the EPA and a professor of environmental law at Lewis and Clark Law School.
Gary Rasp, a TCEQ spokesperson, told ProPublica that the agency “has taken actions to monitor, mitigate, and improve the air quality in fence line communities.” The agency runs dozens of stationary air toxics monitors across the state, he added, and “by continuously evaluating air monitoring data, which is more accurate than modeling, TCEQ can identify issues.” The agency also inspects industrial facilities and “has an active enforcement program, referring particularly egregious cases to the Texas Office of the Attorney General.”
That the people living inside these hot spots are disproportionately Black is not a coincidence. Our findings build on decades of evidence demonstrating that pollution is segregated: People of color are exposed to far greater levels of air pollution than whites — a pattern that persists across income levels. These disparities are rooted in racist real estate practices like redlining and the designation of low-income neighborhoods and communities of color as mixed residential-industrial zones. In cities like Houston, for example, all-white zoning boards targeted Black neighborhoods for the siting of noxious facilities, like landfills, incinerators and garbage dumps. Robert Bullard, a professor of urban planning and environmental policy at Texas Southern University, has called the practice “PIBBY” or “Place In Blacks’ Back Yard” — a spin on the acronym “NIMBY” (“Not In My Back Yard”).
📷 How We Created the Most Detailed Map Ever of Cancer-Causing Industrial Air Pollution
Many of the neighborhoods that border chemical plants are low-income and lack the same resources, access to health care and political capital that wealthier neighborhoods can bring to fights against intrusive commercial activities. In places like Baytown, working-class people depend on the very companies that sicken them to earn a living. Over the years, the shadow of industry can permanently impair not just a neighborhood’s health but also its economic prospects and property values, fueling a cycle of disinvestment. “Industries rely on having these sinks — these sacrifice zones — for polluting,” said Ana Baptista, an environmental policy professor at The New School. “That political calculus has kept in place a regulatory system that allows for the continued concentration of industry. We sacrifice these low-income, African American, Indigenous communities for the economic benefit of the region or state or country.”
Tejada, the EPA’s director of environmental justice, said that the Biden administration and the EPA are focused on confronting these disparities. “These places didn’t happen by accident. The disproportionality of the impacts that they face, the generations of disinvestment and lack of access are not coincidences. These places were created. And it is the responsibility of everyone, including the government — chiefly the government — to do something about it.”
The federal government has long had the information it would need to take on these hot spots. The EPA collects emissions data from more than 20,000 industrial facilities across the country and has even developed its own state-of-the-art tool — the Risk-Screening Environmental Indicators model — to estimate the impact of toxic emissions on human health. The model, known as RSEI, was designed to help regulators and lawmakers pinpoint where to target further air-monitoring efforts, data-quality inspections or, if necessary, enforcement actions. Researchers and journalists have used this model for various investigations over the years, including this one.
And yet the agency’s own use of its powerful modeling tool has been limited. There’s been a lack of funding for and a dearth of interest in RSEI’s more ambitious applications, according to several former and current EPA employees. Wayne Davis, the former EPA scientist, managed the RSEI program under the Trump administration. He said that some of his supervisors were hesitant about publishing information that would directly implicate a facility. “They always told us, ‘Don’t make a big deal of it, don’t market it, and hopefully you’ll continue to get funding next year.’ They didn’t want to make anything public that would raise questions about why the EPA hadn’t done anything to regulate that facility.”
Nicolaas Bouwes, a former senior analyst at the EPA and a chief architect of the RSEI model, recalled the occasional battle to get colleagues to accept the screening tool, let alone share its findings with the public. “There’s often been pushback from having this rich data sheet too readily available because it could make headlines,” he said. “What I find annoying is that the EPA has the same information at their disposal and they don’t use it. If ProPublica can do this, so can the EPA.”
In its statement, the EPA said that it plans to improve its approach for sharing air toxics data faster and more regularly with the public. “EPA has not published calculated cancer risks using RSEI modeled results,” it continued. “RSEI results are not designed as a substitute for more comprehensive, inclusive, or site specific risk assessments,” but as a potential starting point that should only be used “to identify situations of potential concern that may warrant further investigation.”
Indeed, our map works as a screening tool, not as a site-specific risk assessment. It cannot be used to tie individual cancer cases to emissions from specific industrial facilities, but it can be used to diagnose what the EPA calls “situations of potential concern.”
Our analysis arrives as America faces new threats to its air quality. The downstream effects of climate change, like warmer temperatures and massive wildfires, have created more smoke and smog. The Trump administration diluted, scuttled or reversed dozens of air pollution protections — actions estimated to lead to thousands of additional premature deaths. In 2018, then-EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt created a massive air toxics loophole when he rolled back a key provision of the Clean Air Act, known as “Once In, Always In,” allowing thousands of large polluters to relax their use of pollution-controlling equipment.
Biden has yet to close this loophole, but he has signaled plans to alleviate the disproportionate impacts borne by the people who live in these hot spots. Within his first few days in office, he established two White House councils to address environmental injustice. And in March, Congress confirmed his appointment of EPA administrator Michael Regan, who has directed the agency to strengthen its enforcement of violations “in communities overburdened by pollution.”

Over the years, Sullivan Ramirez herself has struggled with nerve degeneration and scleroderma, a rare condition that involves the tightening of the skin and connective tissues. While it can be difficult to link specific cases of disease to pollution exposure, the evidence in Mossville has accumulated: In a 1998 health survey conducted by the University of Texas, 84% of Mossville residents reported having headaches, dizziness, tremors and seizures. An EPA study from the same year found that the average level of dioxins in the blood of Mossville residents was dangerously high — triple that of the general U.S. population. Even small amounts of dioxin, one of the most poisonous chemicals released by facilities, can cause developmental problems, damage the immune system and lead to cancer. A 2007 report found that the types of dioxin compounds in the blood of Mossville residents matched those emitted by local industrial facilities.
In an emailed statement, Sasol noted that its property buyout stemmed from direct requests from Mossville residents and that the company offered owners more than the appraised value of their homes. “Sasol and its predecessor have produced or handled chemicals at our Lake Charles complex for more than 60 years. We understand the science and have controls in place to ensure our operations are safe, protective of the environment, compliant with regulations and sustainable over the long term,” wrote Sarah Hughes, a spokesperson for Sasol. “Sasol is proud of our engagement with our neighbors in Mossville and the positive impact it has had on many of its residents.”
📷 Can Air Pollution Cause Cancer? What You Need to Know About the Risks.
Sullivan Ramirez is wary of too much talk. She knows that the new administration has promised something more for communities like hers, but she doesn’t want to get her hopes up. The presentations from captains of industry, the listening sessions with earnest bureaucrats, the proposals from slick attorneys, the promises tossed off by politicians — over the years, she’s heard it all.
The people of Mossville are right to be skeptical, the EPA’s Tejada acknowledged. “I would be skeptical if I was from Mossville,” he added. “They should be skeptical until we actually show up and do the things that they’ve been asking us to do for a long time. But there’s now a level of commitment to actually tangling with these issues in a really serious, substantive way.”
After years of activism in Mossville, Sullivan Ramirez moved to Lake Charles, just a short drive away. But she worries the industrial sprawl will one day overtake her new home. To Sullivan Ramirez, Mossville is “the key” — a warning of what the future holds for America’s other hot spots if business continues as usual.
“This is the 21st century,” she said. “The act of polluting our lands and robbing our communities — when will enough be enough?”

2023.05.28 19:33 Harri_Sombre_Tomato I know there's been a few similar posts but since season 4 has apparently officially wrapped filming what would you like to see and what are your predictions?

According to TUA updates on twitter season 4 has officially wrapped filming so thought I'd share my hopes and predictions.
I expect a time jump but am expecting one shorter than a lot of people are saying. I think the production blurb saying they come together after 9 years is just a copy paste of season 1's. I'd guess it'll be max a year or two. I'm really really hoping for an opening like season one's with Viktor playing over a montage of the siblings to catch us up on where they are and what they've been doing.
I think Viktor going back to music now he's lost his powers makes the most sense for him and with more confidence he could be more successful now. The only thing that makes me think he might not is Elliot hated trying to learn violin and as a result his miming/playing that was dubbed over apparently looked very bad to those who know about violin. That said actors badly miming playing an instrument is not uncommon so they might be happy to go with it. If they get their powers back I can see Viktor choosing not to have his. They've mostly just caused him pain, if he's a successful musician I can see him being happy to not have them
I really hope Klaus' addiction is dealt with properly. In season 3 none of his siblings seems to be bothered by him drinking but I think this is down to drinking being seen as more socially acceptable than other drugs and he's drinking mouthwash while cleaning rooms with Stan. Robert Sheehan made a comment after season 3 but before season 4 was even announced that he thinks Klaus would fall back into old habits as a reaction to having finally putting so much work into mastering his powers and then losing them almost straight away. Now, he's not a writer but he does seem to have a pretty big influence on Klaus (he's talked about certain changes to the character coming from conversations he had with Blackman after being cast, the biggest being Klaus falling in love with Dave rather than a Vietnamese woman). Also Klaus has never worked or held down a job and I feel would struggle to do so which them makes him being homeless again more likely meaning returning to drug use would be more likely. However with a shorter episode count and him saying he feels the best he's felt in years when coming from the elevator, suggesting his years of drug use have been erased I worry it may not be addressed at all which I think is a pity. It'll feel like a large part of his arc will be dropped if that's the case. I'd also like to see him get to have a romantic relationship not ending in tragedy but I imagine that would be tricky with only 6 episodes.
I'd like to see Five have some form of emotional release in a scene, be that screaming and raging or breaking down and crying. He needs it and I think his siblings need to realise how badly the apocalypse and the commission affected him. It feel unlikely though and I'd say it won't happen if it were t for the scene in season 3 where he asks Lila to give him tha room after his older self dies. He is clearly struggling to hold it together in that scene. At the start of the seadon I think he might be trying to live a normal life. He hates Reginald but he also has repeatedly made things worse in trying to stop the apocalypse and his older self told him not to save the world. The only issue with this is he's 15 and so should be in school but I can also imagine them ignoring this and have him working in a job where he's a presumed genius kid.
I really don't know what to expect with Sloane. I think Luther will find her but I don't know if she will be his Sloane. I think they'll end up together again but initially she won't know/remember him. I don't know why Reginald separated her from the others or if it was intentional.
Whether you think she redeemable or not I think Allison is getting a redemption arc and I think she'll be the one to give the other their powers back. We already know Reginald purposefully stopped the Umbrella's from reaching full potential (he says so in season 3 to Klaus) and we've seen her powers can reality warp like in comics because in the season 2 apocalypse Five witnesses she says 'I heard a rumour I blew your minds' and the soldiers head explode. She also now no longer needs to say I heard a rumour. As such I think she will use her powers to speak her siblings powers back into existence and I'm half expecting it to start with Klaus - I can imagine him dying and her giving him back his powers to revive him (possibly unintentionally but in doing so she realises she can do the same for her siblings). I also expect her, like Viktor, choosing to get rid of her own power, again by speaking into existence. We've seen her try to stop using it multiple times because of it backfiring or causing problems so I can see her giving it up. I also think her nononger needing to say I heard a rumour may lead to her accidentally using it at some point leading to hurting and/or scaring Claire and Ray. Whether she deserves a redemption I'm unsure personally but if she gets on I hope she ends up getting to keep her husband and child personally but then I'm more sympathetic to her than lost people here. She's awful in season 3 but she's undergone trauma and loss after having being able to get what she wants for most of her life, it's in character in my opinion and I feel like the fandom is harsher on Allison than other characters (the only thing I think is unforgivable and I wish the writers hadn't written was the sexual assault on Luther).
Lila and Diego will be doing their best to be a normal family and good parents. I'm not sure what Diego wil be doing for a job since he's not a vigilante. I can't see him going back to the police academy because I think he'd still find the beuarocracy as getting in the way. We know he boxed since that was his alibi in season 1 but he obviously won't have become a professional boxer, maybe a coach or something? Maybe him and Lila both teach self defence classes? I really don't know.
Steve Blackman had confirmed that the Ben on the subway is Sparrow Ben and we should be asking 'Why is he in Korea?' and not 'Which Ben is it?' I'd like this to be misdirect but I don't think it is, Steve Blackmam often says too much in my opinion. I have no idea what to expect or why Ben is in Korea. The fact he was born on a subway is hardly a coincidence I feel but outside of that, no clue. A version of the intended season 3 story of Luther in Japan and meeting a former associate of Reginald that had to be axed due to COVID maybe? I would love for Umbrella Ben to somehow return but I do think it will happen, especially as paradox psychosis would cause issues. Maybe there's a way for Ben to say in the Hargreeves verse and the Umbrellas to return to a timeline/universe similar to their original but Ben somehow is alive? Or Sparrow Ben dies/sacrifices himself somehow in whatever final battle/quest they have to do to restore the timeline?
I think the theories of another apocalypse and letting it happen and us then seeing Five in the apocalypse is possible but I really hate it and hope that's not the ending (also it's a bit of a retread of season 3). I feel the same about them getting back to a version of their original timeline but without an apocalypse and then all splitting off because they actually don't care about it like each other very much. This feels less likely since this is very much a retread of season 3's finale. So how will it end? I don't know but I hope happily with no (permanent) character deaths and the Hargreeves being a loving, if still somewhat dysfunctional family. If they've built lives in the new universe they'd lose them by restoring the original timeline so I do wonder if they stay in the current universe but somehow stop Reggie from having so much power. I've seen someone suggest Abigail would be apalled by all he's done and leave him which would then make him...not turn over a new leaf but his main goal was always resurrecting her so if in doing so he became someone she couldn't live I can see him giving up on any attempt to fight the Umbrella's. Will he even be the main antagonist in season 4 though? I don't know who could be if not him but I also feel like it will be more complex than the Umbrellas just fighting him.
Lastly - the post about it wrapping also said that it will air either later this year or early next. Based on the time between wrapping and release for seasons 1 and 2 it could air in January but I think it'll air in February since season 1 premiered in February 2019. Season 3 had a longer post production time but I think that was mostly due to COVID.
Thoughts? Your own predictions and hopes? I haven't even touched on certain things but this is already an overlong essay so...

2023.05.28 19:30 musicduct Why Hiring Professional Duct Cleaners in Nashville is Essential for Improved Indoor Air Quality

You and your family need a clean and healthy indoor environment. One often overlooked aspect of home maintenance is the regular cleaning of air ducts. In Nashville, where the weather changes frequently, a reliable HVAC system that supplies clean air is essential. This article will discuss the importance of hiring professional duct cleaners in Nashville and how they contribute to improved indoor air quality.
Eliminating Dust and Debris
Dust, grime, and debris in air ducts breed allergens and pollutants. By hiring professional duct cleaners in Nashville, you can ensure that these contaminants are effectively removed from your HVAC system. Their specialized equipment and expertise enable them to thoroughly clean the air ducts, eliminating dust, pollen, pet dander, and other debris. Indoor air quality and respiratory difficulties are much improved.
Removing Mold and Mildew
Nashville's humid climate can create perfect mold and mildew growth conditions. Mold colonies in air ducts release spores when moisture enters. These spores can trigger allergies and respiratory problems. Professional duct cleaners can locate and remove mold and mildew from ducts, creating a healthier home for your family.
Enhancing Energy Efficiency
Clogged and dirty air ducts can hinder the efficiency of your HVAC system. Air distribution is tougher when air ducts are dirty. This increases energy use and utility bills. By hiring professional duct cleaners, you can improve the energy efficiency of your HVAC system. Clean air ducts allow for better airflow, reducing the strain on the system and potentially lowering your energy costs.
Preventing Unpleasant Odors
Over time, air ducts can accumulate unpleasant odors from pet dander, cooking fumes, tobacco smoke, and other sources. Using the HVAC system spreads these odors throughout your home. Professional duct cleaners use effective deodorizing techniques to eliminate these odors, leaving your home smelling fresh and clean.
Conclusion
Hiring professional duct cleaners in Nashville is essential for improving indoor air quality and a healthier living environment. Their expertise in eliminating dust, debris, mold, and odors from air ducts ensures that you and your family can breathe clean and fresh air. Additionally, clean air ducts contribute to energy efficiency, potentially reducing your utility bills. By investing in professional duct cleaning services, you are taking a proactive step toward creating a comfortable and healthy home environment in Nashville.

2023.05.28 19:30 watcherofthewaves Emote Spamming

Regarding MTGA:
For those of you who choose to spam emotes, such as "your go" or "good game", what is the point? What message are you trying to get across?
At least every 1 out of 5 opponents I play decides at some point in the game to begin smashing the emote button over and over; of course, usually when they think they have the upper hand. However, this usually isn't the case, and I find the opponent often ends up conceding the moment they realize you have some sort of counter. You would think after numerous experiences of this, these individuals would change how they interact with other players; yet, it still continues. I have even had the same player do it to me more than once.
In the past, I have reported these players to WOTC, but, as is expected, they cannot get to every complaint. In light of this, what do other players do in response? I myself either play for the win or concede, preventing the opponent from even playing, usually the latter, as I do not tolerate these kinds of personalities in my life. As a CS major, I imagine programming an algorithm to catch frequent repetitions of the same emote; this would be easy to implement with minimal code and could disable emotes for those who choose to abuse them.
Overall, these emote spammers are the only reason I dislike playing MTGA at times, and I am a daily player.
As a community, I challenge us to put together a Github project where a team could begin programming a mod in MTGA native C+ that will address this issue. If anyone is interested in such a project and has experience working in C+, please leave a comment.
Thanks for reading and for any subsequent replies!

2023.05.28 19:30 vinionthee My boyfriend 31 M comes out to me 26F and informs he cheated but love me now

I 26F and my bf 31M are in a six year relationship we had rough relationship from the start because of personality differences but nothing too serious.. he just seemed emotionally unavailable at times I addressed it and he said he is going through things and he will be fine if I can give him some time and space or I can leave the relationship... I thought it is essential that I stay by his side when he's going through things let things go bcoz I tried to be understanding... And he did change at times (there were times when he would be the sweetest person for sometime and then the next month I got ghosted) and was being caring and discussed about our future and all. When one day when he said that he changed for better nd said he is going to try his best in this relationship, I asked him to tell me any secrets that he been hiding so to put everything past us and u know turn a new leaf in our relationship. He told me that he is actually bi which he found out a year or two ago.. and I said it is fine as long as he loves me... He said he did and also told me he had oral s*x with someone he met at a shooting gig and at that time it didn't seem like cheating but enjoying himself with colleagues and things... And said he put it all behind him he will not sway for others, they are nothing not even a fling but just did it on spur of the moment. He assured me that he loves me and wants to talk about marriage.
I still love him so accepted all of it. Did he cheat on me or was he just unaware that it is cheating?? Please help me make sense of this situation...
