Pipewire issue ? No sound at start up - no video - no sreen sharing in zoom
2023.05.28 21:25 redbakan Pipewire issue ? No sound at start up - no video - no sreen sharing in zoom
I had exactly the same issue on F37 (plus bluetooth not working - resolved by updated to F38). At start up, there is no sound at all (audio is dead), plus video (like youtube or else) stay blocked. A this point, i understand that this is Pipewire working. I noticed that in that config, i could share screen in Zoom (but without audio, still not very attractive...).
So like in F37, my only way to make sound works is to kill pipewire with this and after each reboot : systemctl --user stop pipewire.service pipewire.socket After that, sound works perfectly in any case, video works smoothly, same videoconferencing with Zoom. BUT impossible to share screen !
Sorry for my english, and my (still) linux newbie level, but i really need some advice on this... i was hoping so hard that the F38 upgrade will resolve this, can it be a problem with my hardware ? I know that i can use the Zoom web app for the screen sharing, but the Fedora system is working so damn well that this is the last boring issue i have (launch a command line ast start up to make sound working is not a very smooth experience), so telling myself i'm missing something here...
Thanks.

2023.05.28 21:00 soberbad Shroom Trip
Me and my friend got some Hillbilly shrooms and the gram scale broke so we decided to eat the fattest ones we had. Im sure we ate around 3-3.5 grams and holy shit.
Its almost impossible to explain what happened. During the come-up, we felt pretty nauseous and these visuals weren't wavy like everything was just becoming a living thing. We felt like we were becoming Autistic and had very strong ADHD and we wanted to do something but did not know what to do.
For me, the come-up felt on and off like I felt at home for a second then I started tripping harder. It's impossible to describe the peak it was insane. So much was going on with white noise in the back and thats when we started hearing something trying to communicate with us. It was all gibberish but we could understand what they were trying to say. It was almost like the entity was testing us to see if we are worthy to pass and understand the universe.
Overtime, we found what we needed to do. We started watching hours of Minecraft Civilization videos. The voices of the narration kept going up and down and sometimes very fast and sometimes very slow like everything was in slow motion. Sometimes when things went slow, it seemed like an entity took over the minecraft characters and they were looking right at me. But these entities were not the good ones. They were telling me I was worthless and couldn't amount to anything. It wasnt a bad trip and I just felt hella tripped out and kinda started laughing then it started to go away.
My friend was trying to record as much as possible so he can remember and describe the trip but he kept looking at himself on his phone and started saying that he is attractive as fuck. We were both barely able to control our phones and controllers.
Eventually we decided to hit the cart which holy shit I cant even describe what it did to us. I would hear the sound of the cart hitting then turn around and see my friend hitting nothing and we were both so confused.
Now here is what was crazy. Sour patch kids. That shit taste hella weird it was chewy but seemed like it actually wasnt breaking down. The flavors were incredibly enhanced.
Now back to the minecraft video. I felt like I knew who the narrator was and I felt like the minecraft civilization video was actually explaining everything about the universe. How it started and everything and once we felt like we understand everything now, the effects started to wear off slowly and those memories of the trip started to slip away.
The comedown was terrible because we wanted to sleep but felt a strong urge to remember the trip but we couldnt. We were staring at the floor thinking really hard but also couldnt control our thoughts. Then a few hours later we fell asleep.

2023.05.28 21:00 TheEternalStranger I got scammed
So I was talking to someone who claimed to be an OF model but was looking to get out of that business
Yeah my spidey senses were tingling. I know there are plenty of scammers fishing for gullible lonely men but she seemed nice and wanted nothing from me. I was just happy to speak with a female. I guess even if it was a dude LARPing. I was just happy to talk. I mean everyone is so busy these days. Who has time for anyone? And yet here was this nice person. So I spoke to "her".
Over time our relationship started to blossom, and I became convinced she was infact a she. We used to speak alot. Like alot. These were not sporadic conversations.
Soon came requests for money. I didn't want to lose my friendship with this woman who I could potentially see marrying so I obliged. I sent her ETH (maybe 1.25 total across several months).
I stupidly also added her on FB. Her profile seemed fake, she had 0 freinds. But she told me she created the profile just for me. I get it. I guess she is just too shy for social media. Say no more. We would send each other love messages openly. My parents were happy I finally found someone.
Anyway, She eventually said a few things, lies so blatantly false and out of touch with reality, that made me think she was fake as hell (calling me handsome and saying my appendenge was big when I finally built the courage to send to her some pictures after months of talking) so I called her out on it. We got into a VERY heated argument. This led to this person becoming truthful about who they are. Turned out I was talking to a dude.
I was devastated but I told him that this changes nothing ( context: I was actually still thinking this person is fully in love with me as they made me believe these past few months).
I told him it didn't matter he was a dude. As long as he is willing to keep wearing makeup, faking a soft voice and wearing a wig, I want to continue our relationship. I will even fly him out to my country (context: he would send me videos of a woman with personalised nice messages directed to me. We also had phone conversations so I assumed it must have been him cross dressing or something. He later told mr it was a fake model who I guess works for him).
He then sent me a selfie of him quickly and deleted it before I could screen grab. He was laughing and was a middle aged balding dude with glasses lol. I said it still doesn't matter. We could work with it. I could pay for hormone treatments. Do you love me? (I know how this sounds. I was being over emotional and not thinking with my brain).
He then said some swear words to me. He said he doesn't care about me and told me to get lost. He said he wants 5 ETH or he will leak photos of my little acorn to my FB contacts by creating a false profile of me and adding them. Ouch that hurt lol.
I then swore at him and explained thst I don't care. Who will you send my D pics to?
My parents? Oh no, you'll share my D pictures with my parents?? They've seen it before when they used to bathe me when I was a wee little lad. It's hardly changed. Its not like you would be shocking them with something they can't handle.
My boss or my colleagues? Go ahead. I want to get fired anyway.
My freinds? What freinds?
I told him not to mess with a guy with nothing to lose and quickly blocked him.
But the more I think about it. I have a lot to lose and I'm actually scared.
The said part is. I felt something was wrong from the start. But I suspended judgement. In my head I figured I was still a lonely desperate guy until she was in front of me and acted like it, maybe because I subconsciously knew it would amount to nothing. Now I know I should have trusted my intuition. I should have known I was never meant to meet anyone.
I am probably going to end up sending a message to my key FB contacts warning them not to accept a freinds invite from someone claiming to be me.
I'm not sure what the message of this story is. But I've now been researching about online dating scams. I won't be trusting anyone online ever again. There are alot of ruthless people out there with alot of time on their hands who have made a full time job of preying on the vulnerable and desperate. Tthe internet has given them a global market.

2023.05.28 20:58 twaterlillyy Is it the same thing?
Advise is a good thing right? When you're friends are also his friends it's hard to ask them questions when they don't want to hurt the other person's feelings...
But my husband and I work together, same shift, (8:00-5:30pm) and we obviously ride to work together. We've been together for 7 years, and we've worked together for 4.5 of those. I work in a different department than he does but he's still kind of my boss. He's ASM and I'm a counter person. If I don't do my job he doesn't make any money. This is just back story and a little detail.
Every day, we wake up at the same time, 6:15am. He goes to one bathroom and I go to another. I'm ready well before he is; I let my dog out, feed my animals, make him breakfast and lunch, and then we go to work. It's a 15 minute drive without traffic. He doesn't like to talk in the morning so he listens to music really loud the whole way. Once we get to work he goes to his department and I go to mine. We cross paths so he can tell me I've forgotten something on a ticket or a price needs to be changed, and to get his lunch.
I don't take lunch breaks at work because I like when my paycheck is over 110hrs. (That's a lot of money) He does take lunches most days, but he spends a lot of his time in our shop talking to other people about their plans after work.. (I'm never included in them) he comes by my desk to tell me so-and-so is coming over to play music and then he walks away and back to his department.
When work is over, we get in the car and he immediately turns on his music and blares whatever he wants to listen to.. generally it's Ty Segal (whom I don't particularly care for.. but he does so I don't say much) when we golet home he immediately goes to feed his cat and spends 45 minutes on the toilet watching comedy skits and car videos on YouTube or reels. Then he goes to the kitchen grabs the fastest food item he can and goes to his music studio.. it's 6:30pm at this point. People start coming to our home and stay until about 9:30-10:00pm. They play guitars, drums, and keyboards the whole time.
I go to bed between 8:30 and 9:30 depends on when my medicine kicks in.. (I have cancer) He comes to bed around 11:30-12:00 so I'm more than asleep at this point. Then we start the cycle over again.
Sundays are our only DAYS OFF, as the company we work for is open every day but Sunday (yay Louisiana)
Today, we woke up at 9:30, his phone was going off and he rolled over to answer.. his friend (whom is a guy) wanted him to help with a break job on a Prius. To which my husband gladly gets out of bed for. He's been there since this morning... And came home to get speaker wire.. I asked him when he was going to hang out with me and he said, "I'm working on a sound board" then left.
My question or the advice I want or need.. or whatever is simple...
Do I have the right to be upset that my husband wants nothing to do with me? He doesn't want to hold my hand in public because he doesn't like PDA, he doesn't want to go to bed at the same time as me because it's too early, he doesn't want to leave work to go to doctors appointments with me, he doesn't talk to me, and he's never around or asks me how I feel.
I've been incredibly depressed lately.. and really have no one to talk to about it because my family is 15 hrs away from where I live, my best friend and I aren't speaking because she wants to be with an abusive guy, and my husband is too busy for me.
Im at my wits end because I love this man with every part of me.. and I don't feel like he feels the same way..
I don't know what to do..

2023.05.28 20:55 sushigurl2000 Can someone please explain my cat’s behavior? He’s been growling, hissing, and making “mmmm” sounds ever since my family got back from vacation.
| Milo, the bigger cat in the video is 1 yr and Jasper (black cat) is 9 months. My family and I left for vacation for a week leaving them with my bf to take care of. No issues, growling and such. Milo would hiss every now and then but definitely not as much as now. Anytime Jasper comes to the same area/level as him he would growl, hiss and swat at him. He’s never really done that before, just rarely. They‘ve played like this before but Milo wouldn’t make all these sounds. Now even when I try to take Milo off the counters (he knows he’s not suppose to be on there) he makes those “mmmm” low growls. He’s never done that. As far as I know he poops and pees just fine. Both of them are neutered. But he’s been not eating as much, I have to spoon feed his kibble. Jasper is very food motivated and will try to steal his food, weirdly enough Milo let’s him. I’m confused why he acted like this suddenly. Is he being protective of me towards Jasper? Or is it puberty/behavior problems? submitted by sushigurl2000 to cats [link] [comments] |
2023.05.28 20:54 TheRetroWorkshop Hard & Accurate Sci-fi Tip #1: Sports & Relaxation:
Note: This is a series I want to create, centred around some given element or facet of worldbuilding and storytelling. Primarily, each post will either be a piece of hard science in terms of physics or logistics or otherwise core elements of the setting itself (such as military structure), or non-physical core elements of the people and their world (such as sports and personal enjoyment matters, for emotional regulation and social stability, among other reasons). In short: all the things that actually create a functional, realistic culture.
A random (meaning, I have just picked it at random for today), often overlooked element within space opera (and sci-fi in general) would be all things recreational. You might not find a good way to heavily feature this into your (say) novel, game, or screenplay, but it can be something to just touch upon, and have in your notes, as it will at least indirectly relate to the wider world you're building (so, it's worth knowing, as the author).
The logic is very simple: using humanity as a fundamental base (technically, an axiom), we can conclude that any humanoid or even alien species would have to gift themselves some kind of national sport, wargame, gambling system, or otherwise. The real-world examples literally encompass almost all of culture itself, making me believe that if your people are even remotely humanoid in their fundamental nature, then the recreational is a core facet of culture itself. This is so integrated into our real culture (rather, cultures) that we take it for granted, and don't even think about it when it comes to fiction-writing. But, it's a nice thing to add if you want added realism and stability, or an extra human touch.
For whatever reason, fantasy seems to feature invented sports and the like far more than sci-fi (unless such is the entire narrative of the sci-fi story, of course -- and, then, it's typically car-based). If we look to history, we clearly have the very creation of modern dice (India) as a gambling tool, and we have wargames (Go and Chess, etc.) as either direct military training tools (wargames proper), or abstracted wargames for more general use, since at least 3000 BC. Sports-wise, we see Blood Bowl (Warhammer fantasy sports game), Quidditch (fantasy; Harry Potter, which is akin to football mixed with netball in the air), and a dozen major examples from sci-fi, often featuring murder and cars (which we could see as a kind of replacement for the Roman and Greek sports), or else some kind of American sport hybrid. These include Real Steel, Futuresport, The Running Man, Rollerball, and Death Race (also, movies by the same names).
The aforementioned are obviously plot devices, and possibly don't have a place within your space opera setting and story. But, the fundamental drive and psychology are there. There are a few other examples from sci-fi board games and novels. Not to mention general sports and activities, such as Swimming.
Personally, I have made my national sport and recreation activity Swimming. The reason is four-fold: (1) it is a driver for both health and relaxation; (2) it can be social and peaceful; (3) for symbolic reasons; and (4) because there is likely not much water in space, yet humans still have a deep drive towards water (naturally, this is only applicable to any water-based culture, such as humans). It also occurs to me that water is a natural fitting for space, more so, if we take the TV trope, 'space is an ocean' (which does seem to be the natural categorisation, though it's not the only one). Another reason might be that it creates a reward system/social mobility, or at least the implication of such. Maybe, boarding a spaceship and taking a trip to the 'local' Swimming Centre is the week's holiday for your lower class people. On the other hand, maybe the high class types sit in Swimming Centres all the time. Not an uncommon trend throughout both fiction and history, as you might imagine.
That's just my own example, and may act as a springboard (no pun intended). You can justify dozens of real sports and otherwise activities, or invent your own. They may be readily accessible, or limited to certain classes of people or otherwise groups. There will likely be many different activities and sports for all your peoples, just as we see on Earth.
If you're writing a novel, just one trip to one sports centre or otherwise will do the trick, assuming you have planted in the reader's mind the notion that this is very normal and healthy for the culture/people. Best is to try and fit it into the wider plot, or else as a passing element (a few pages). One natural way to deal with this is to tie such into a wider theme or plot-point. Don't just have people randomly go Swimming just to inform the readers that they are Swimming. You need to work it in a bit better than that.
Depending on your culture, you may want a dozen violent/unhealthy sports and activities, or you (i.e. your culture's governing body, etc.) may only regulate more peaceful, healthy ones. I would try and tie this into the wider theme, anyway, and take into account the kind of people/culture you have. For example, you may or may not want Football with ant-like robots. On the other hand, bottle-tossing for big space Russians always sounds like a fun game.
If your culture is based on Americans or Hongkongian, for example, then you should think about their native sports and activities, and how that might fit into whatever you're doing with them in space/the future. Other than that, you need to consider the (a) disposition of your culture; (b) the history of your culture; (c) the function of your culture; (d) the state of your culture; and (e) the peoples of your culture. Although this is not an exhaustive list, it should suffice.
It also occurs to me, we just don't see enough sports in space outside of these movies/stories that are wholly dedicated to said sports, which is weird considering how sport-obsessed humans have become since 500 BC (but, especially since 1920 AD). This is often in relation to the ruling classes in rich, urban settings (cities/towns), or the average citizens in urban areas, finding a bit more free time on their hands (i.e. Scotland and England circa 1920 AD). Makes sense: you have bored, work-less nobles, or even workers with nothing to do. They need something to do; thus, they invented all sorts of games, wargames, and sports. You see this with horse-related games, ball-related games, and even something like fox tossing. Tennis was 'the game' (popular sport) of the middle classes and above by the 1880s through the 1980s (hence, most early video sports games of the 1950s through 1970s were all Tennis-based). Worth noting that most early video games were themselves sports games or wargames! Actually, most video games are wargames circa 2023 AD, with a vast number of the rest being sports. I stress this only to stress the importance of such things to human culture and entertainment... indeed, most of our entertainment is also either war-based (Boxing, etc.) or otherwise sports (Football, etc.). Not shockingly, most modern sports were invented, therefore, in the British Empire (sometimes with French or Dutch roots). Older sports are seemingly universal -- ranging from Africa to Native Americans to India -- and are typically ball-based (classically, often using heads, or else leather balls).
Of course, most sports are impossible in zero gravity, so I'm just assuming you're creating some kind of zero gravity war-based game, or otherwise sport (fundamentally throwing-based or ball-based), or your culture is on a planet or space station of some kind, which has artificial gravity.
Tron is a great example of offering some inspiration (duel type, and others), not to mention Spy Kids 3D (car race), Speed Racer (car race), and Ready Player One (car race). Then, you have combat training type games (I'll just call these 'physical wargames') and VR games (Gamer movie, for example), not to mention VR holiday trips.
Speaking of which, I'm reminded of Germany's vast, cheap, powerful cruise trip system by 1938, which saw millions of working (and fairly poor) Germans taking such Party-run trips and holidays (mostly a propaganda tool, funded with blood money, of course). In the more modern context, this is what we saw by the 1950s in America and England with various holiday sites, theme parks, modern cruise trips, and beach holidays (though these do date to at least 1920, but typically only by the middle classes and above). No less, Tolkien himself once came on holiday to the town I live in (on the coast, North of England), which was a famous holiday town back in the 1850s through 1960s. This was commonplace, including long walks through the woods and various built-up areas. Even in the 1700s, people began going to the 'sea air' for so-called health benefits. In reality, this was likely due to the fact the city air was unhealthy. The sea air was simply fresh, clean air (though, it likely is good for you, psychologically speaking, compared to the grey-state of city life). All of this to say that humans have a deep desire to be in nature, and to relax. This is true most of all for the rich and urbanised (as you can imagine).
Space theme park, anyone? Giant cinema on the Moon? Sure, why not. Titanic cruise trip across the galaxy? Doctor Who already did that, but you get my point! There is much to be done, and you only have to add a few such items, and briefly touch upon them, but I think it does wonders for the human connection, and some added realism (assuming such correctly fits your setting and themes).
There are many other activities of note, of course, including but not limited to art groups, acting/plays, drinking games, general board/video games, card/dice/token games, sword-based sports, hunting, Shooting (sport), and actual warfare.
The only other thing I should like to say is that gambling is not always wholly a negative, nor drinking. These ensure that people have something to do at the end of eacfh day/week, without rioting against the system or going insane/depressed. Gambling and drinking are about as old as modern culture itself (at least 7,000 years), so it's not a trivial matter. You may or may not want these in your setting in some manner: think that the key positive function to gambling is social mobility, as it allows poor people to climb up the social ladder by winning large sums of money (or, rather, gives them the hope of such). However, this needs to be contained, because (a) you actually need people to climb the social ladder, unless they are kept there; and (b) studies indicate that gambling doesn't actually work in this way, as most winners fall back to zero after 12 months. This assumes you have some kind of social caste system, which is money-driven, of course (which is very common). Drinking is simple: it keeps men off the streets and not as depressed, which is very good for a functional culture (despite the major negative social (and health) impacts of drinking itself according to studies). Alcohol comes to us via the Arabic, and I read that it comes from at least 7,000 BC. I read that gambling stems from many games/betting from 'knucklebones' (goats/sheep, mostly, around the Near East, then India, China, Greece, etc.), around 5000 BC (at least). I'm not sure if this was purely for gambling purposes, or the later form of divination (hence, the origin of dice). We still treat dice (such as in modern board games) as if we are fighting the gods of fate... as if we are making a bet with the future itself. This is part of 'divination', at least. This makes sense, if you think about it in a Jungian and Darwinian context (most of all, of the typical male brain pattern of high risk and high reward, clearly stemming from hunting). This would be pure speculation, but I like to think that these early gamblers were betting on Fate, struggling with the spirits of the animals of said bones (goats/sheep), maybe trying to get good omen/luck from them. We have certainly seen a great deal of such activity in the past, as evidenced by cave paintings and various omen rituals. I believe a future space human culture would have such things in place, too, just in different ways.
Right now, for example, the major form of gambling is hitting young boys via video games and their 'loot crate' systems, which is actually very dangerous and often illegal. These are almost always on war-driven games, so the connection back to hunting goats and bone-dice is not such a leap -- it's just a simulated, digital, nested form. Another major form of gambling over the last few decaes has been Boxing, which is literal combat/fighting between man. If your space opera has a primary focus on actual warfare, however, I think such sports and games are unneeded (for the most part). Only within a non-war context would your culture require such replacements (i.e. sports and wargames), but I do believe the royals/nobles of your setting would have such activities, as they are likely to have great amounts of free time, and not actively enage in warfare (though, you could primarily fill their time with politics and/or religion).
I have said enough for today. Ah, speaking of which: talking might be another consideration for your culture. This is literally as old as man, and does count as such an activity in the context of debate. You famously find this within the Jewish and Islamic worlds: likely because they don't enage with the other items I mentioned as much, and their religions require great moral debate and such. On the other hand, Buddhism requires a lot of silent thinking (which is a kind of debate, in a sense). This heavily depends on your culture's primary religion and otherwise. Some cultures are almost purely geared towards warfare, for example, like the Akkadian Empire (though we are likely a bit harsh on that). In this case, the focus would be on action. If your culture is anything like the modern West, then it's also going to be heavily driven by action, purely due to the speed of the culture and its workers. How this manifests itself depends on the type of government and culture you have in place (the Dutch Empire vs. the U.S., for example).
I'm sure I've forgotten a few key items and categories, and I'm sorry for that!
(Clearly, within a cyberpunk direction or more classical space opera context, the primary free-time activities and modes tend to be centred around sex, war, and/or slave-labour, as shown by Star Wars in general, for example. This may or may not fit your world and story, however. The other core negative item would be gambling, which is the only item which doesn't innately involve the body, though often bleeds over into various animal gambling games/activities. You may find that you have certain sci-fi/space creatures in your world, for example, and find yourself creating a gambling game out of that. Typically, you either make said creatures fight each other or race/run. This typically keeps the more lower classes engaged in the 'slums' sector (typically of a planet). Very common trope/theme, as noted in the bright-cyberpunk-space-opera sort of movie, The Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), when they go to a trading hub planet, filled with crime, sex rings, and gambling, including little weird creatures fighting each other, akin to dog fighting or such on Earth. But, again: you don't actually require this, it's just one popular way to go within the wider sci-fi context, and it serves a few purposes, in-universe.)

2023.05.28 20:37 ParadoxCoco Women who were diagnosed with autism in adulthood: what signs made you decide to get tested?
All my life I've been criticised by my parents for not being bubbly and not behaving the correct way in front of relatives and acquaintances. I thought that I was just an introvert because I excelled in school and never had difficulties with learning or focusing or understanding any subject. But recently I've been considering the possibility that I could be autistic.
The other day a coworker commented that my scarf was pretty and I said "thank you" and smiled. She laughed and said that the way I accept compliments was weird. It got me thinking of all the times when people have told me that something I said or did was weird or inappropriate, while I was completely unaware of it.
Moreover I am highly sensitive to some stimuli like bright lights, loud sounds, smells, temperature, movements in my environment, etc. These things make me feel overstimulated, so sometimes I need to cry in the bathroom.
Today I came across a video called 16 Overlooked Traits in Autistic Females, and I related with many of them.
I would like to hear experiences from women who got diagnosed in adulthood, and what signs you had noticed before you went in for a diagnosis.

2023.05.28 20:37 cliffdiver770 RISKA, the friendly wild saltwater crocodile of Borneo
I recently learned about this Borneo saltwater crocodile named RISKA. The story is when it was young, this saltie was choking to death on a plastic bag and this guy grabbed it and saved it's life, so it followed him and he started feeding it. For context, these crocodiles, of this species and in this exact area, kill hundreds of humans a year. They're the most dangerous crocodiles on earth.
Riska is now large. Not "giant" by any means, but large- a straight-up 12 footer at least- and the guy gets in the water with it, kisses it on the face, pats it, and significantly, he feeds it at extremely close proximity- his hand almost in the mouth.
The crocodile accepts food in a way, that, at the risk of sounding anthropomorphic, has to be described as "gentle" as compared with typical movements in feeding behaviors. Although I can't claim to understand how crocodiles think of people or other animals, it is more than clear that this crocodile doesn't want to eat this guy. It understands at the very least that it will be fed, over the long term, by this guy, and if you watch the videos- and there are literally dozens of videos, the guy is as close to the croc's face -- during feeding -- as you'd be with a friendly dog.
This is something I never thought I would see, and it definitely means something about crocodiles and crocodile brains. This is different than seeing people get close to alligators, for example, because unlike alligators, this species of crocodile kills hundreds of people a year, and even in areas very close to this location.
So this crocodile is exactly the species, size, and location to be extremely dangerous to people, possibly the most dangerous in the world. But here we have all this video that shows this guy over many years patting it on the face and kissing it between the eyes and standing in the water with it, while feeding it. It doesn't confuse him with food, and tolerates all of this without protest.
I would love to hear someone more educated than myself in this area explain this.

The server is set up and running. I get video and audio through the TV (X90K) and TV speakers but no audio through the surround sound speakers (5.1). I have the optical line going from TV out to the receiver. I’ve already swapped cables so I know they are good and tested the receiver port with my DVD player. I’m completely stumped. I feel like there’s a setting somewhere im missing. I’m sending everything over to the TV from my computer via Ethernet. Any suggestions? Big thanks.

2023.05.28 20:29 puppyworm My story as a recovering neet
Copied directly from
NEET as I thought this might be a good place to post my journey as well!
Edit: I just realized due to a comment I received on this post that many people will assume I'm a woman. I'm simply a gay man lol. Just wanted to clear that up.
Hey. I don't really have anyone to share this with, so I hope it's okay if I share it here. I'm a recovering neet and I just want to put this out there. Maybe it can serve as some inspiration for others looking to get out of neetdom or something. Anyways.
I would've dropped out of high school if I had gone to a regular one. Thankfully I ended up going to an alternative school because my mental health was so poor, and they supported me really well.
After I graduated I got a retail job and it sucked to hell. Quit after a couple months. Fall was coming up so I decided to go to community college. Did that for a year as my mental health was once again rapidly declining, and then I just... Stopped attending.
I did nothing until I was 23. It was great at first. Thankfully my dad is very soft in the heart and while he would verbally worry about me, he also probably would have let me live with him doing nothing for the rest of my life. I loved playing video games all day and sleeping into the evening.
But as time went on, it started kind of sucking. I had no money, I stopped getting enjoyment out of doing anything other than playing games, my social anxiety got 500% worse, I gained a lot of weight, and worst of all, my relationship with my boyfriend was deteriorating.
I was in therapy for a bit, but she had to drop me due to her clinic no longer accepting my dad's insurance. My boyfriend, who lived with me and my dad, was kind and patient, but I could tell his patience and hope for me was wearing thin after a few years of me doing absolutely nothing to help myself.
At the end of 2021 (I think), I got on some meds that actually work pretty well for my anxiety. I also tried shrooms a few times, which made me realize a some things.
Firstly, that my greatest wish of moving out wasn't going to happen if I didn't do anything to make it happen. We wouldn't be able to live off my boyfriend's salary alone. Also, I wouldn't want him to have to work that much.
Second, that was what led me to the realization that my lack of drive was putting some strain on our relationship. Of course, he doesn't think not having a job is a bad thing, as evidenced by the fact that he stayed with me all throughout my ~4-5 years of neetdom. It's more about how he would have to work so much to sustain us if we ever wanted to leave.
And third, I... Wanted to do more than survive. I wanted to be able to afford to do things like take trips and eat sushi and live in a decent place. I'm a big Disney parks fan since I grew up with my parents taking me all the time, so I want to be able to keep going even into my adulthood. I know that sounds stupid to a lot of people, but it's important to me and part of what motivates me (I'm just autistic lmao don't worry I loathe Disney as a company)
During the summer of 2022, I decided (to the delight of my dad and boyfriend) that I would go back to community college. I signed up for one math class to ease myself back in.
To my surprise, it wasn't as bad as I remembered. The people around me were younger than me, but I'm still pretty young still and am often mistaken for a teenager, so that wasn't a problem for me. I didn't really socialize. The atmosphere of my college was too high school-like for me to feel comfortable socializing.
But the class itself was... Lowkey kinda fun? I realized that I actually enjoy learning math. And that was when, after also researching anxiety-friendly well paying jobs, I decided I would transfer to a university, where I would major in computer science and get a job programming or something like that.
I took another class in the winter, applied to the university as a transfer, and after some hassle, I'm incredibly happy to say that at 24 years old, I'm starting at the university this fall! My then boyfriend, now fiance and I decided we want to get married, AND we're moving out of my dad's house since the school is across the state. My tuition is being funded by grants and the housing is being funded by my wonderful, generous fiance, and we'll be moving out in less than a month!!
One of the weirdest things I've realized is that I was so, SO bored when I was neeting. Having things to do in the real world, goals to attain, actually made me feel like a real person. Like I wanted to go out into the world and like, do something. I also feel like I can enjoy video games and stuff a lot more now.
I'll always be supportive of neets, those who are neet by choice and those who aren't, and I'll never judge anyone for being one. But that life isn't for me anymore. I'm happy to have my tax dollars go to a neet who needs it more, and once I'm working, I want to let my fiance decide what he wants to do. If he wants to play vidya all day, that's fine, the goal is to make enough money for him to be able to do that. And if he wants to pursue college or something, I'll be able to support him financially.
Him and my dad are literally the only people in my life right now. My social anxiety got so bad as a need that I ended up cutting everyone off. I hope trying to make new friends ends up being worth it. And in college, I'll be sure to take on less of a workload/take breaks if I need to. I don't want to go back to the way things were.
Anyways, I know this is long as shit, and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read it. Let me know your thoughts, questions, etc if you have any. Much love and wishing the best for everyone.
(Also just want to add that I realize how lucky I've been here. I'm by no means trying to say it's easy to stop being a neet, or that you should even have to at all. In a world where machines could do much of the work, there's no reason to force people to work if they don't want to or can't. I'm antiwork. My happiness lies not with becoming a wagecuck, but in being able to support my partner and be able to do things like move out and afford to go on vacation. Everyone finds their own happiness in life. If your happiness is being a neet, more power to you!)

2023.05.28 20:24 mangophat bad water damage to floating floor from leak caused by sus plumbing - we’re the tenants yay. 🫠
TLDR; we have dodgy leaky plumbing & a blocked toilet pipe caused water to leak resulting in substantial water damage to our floors. Also into the cafe below us. Idk what to expect from the realestate & what we should do.
Recent issue occurred when my partner had a shower while the laundry was on, the downstairs neighbour came knocking on our door to alarm us of a leak that was dripping on his customers. (Cafe directly below us, we have the same landlord but separate realestate.)
Then my partner noticed our laundry floor drain had overflowed, our toilet was bubbling & then he walked into the kitchen which is on the other side of the wall of the laundry & water has leaked up through the floowall & damaged all of the floating floor. It’s warped rippling & it had water sealing out of gaps. It’s also on the carpet in the bedroom.
When we moved in we noticed minor water damage to some of the kitchen floor & skirting I’m certain it was acknowledged with photos in the real-estates condition report before we moved in.
I sent videos of all the current water damage to the realestate emergency contact the day it happened & explained the situation. We didn’t know if the leak was on going or where it was coming from. We also can’t turn off our water bc were in a unit.
They didn’t answer my calls & replied 4 hours later only saying ‘did your washing machine cause the leak?’ … nothing said about the water damage or when a plumber would come ect.
My partners best mate is a certified plumber & he had come over to take a look since the realestate took so long to respond. The washing machine is fully functional without leaks.
It turns out the pipes under our laundry & in the shops ceiling are not up to code, according to the plumber friend. We’ve seen photos it’s very dodgy looking. There’s an open waste pipe that hovers into another pipe, it’s not sealed so if there’s a block it just overflows.
Which the shop owner had asked to be repaired previously when we had a leak. It’s a health hazard especially above a cafe.
The realestate sent the plumber today, he filled up the bath & flooded the floor again, causing more damage. It leaked into the shop again..we got another knock on our door. He told the cafe owner ‘this stuff just happens.’ Gave him no heads up that he was testing the pipes.
Our bedroom carpet has now been wet for 2 days we’re trying to dry it but the weathers cold.
He says there’s a waste blockage, toilet paper n shit. he used a camera. He’s coming back tomorrow to screw the toilet back in..
I will need to contact our agent about the floor damage through out the apartment.
Do I request a detailed report from the plumber?
Do i get a second report done from our friend?
What happens in this situation regarding the floor?? It looks like the floor needs to be replaced.. which sounds like a huge expensive job. This whole thing is stressful already. I don’t wanna deal with potential mold, I have enough health issues.
What do I do, please help! 🫠

2023.05.28 20:19 skacey Totally crazy Halloween / Escape Room / Interactive Party idea
Somehow I've convinced my wife that converting our entire home into an interactive Halloween escape room dinner party would be a good idea. We've got about 20 weeks to get everything done, and many of the things we are planning are untested, and I'm not even sure if they are possible.
We have a fairly large home; almost all of the lightswitches are Lutron Casetas. We have a large media server that also hosts Home Assistant. Several Zigbee devices through a Smart Things hub, including motion and door sensors.
Here is what we are thinking right now (though this may change as we learn more)
The Arrival (6-7 pm) - Guests will arrive and be guided to the back yard, where we will have gift bags, snacks, and drinks. The gift bag itself is the first puzzle, as it will contain several items and clues. One of the items will be a 15-piece slide puzzle (3d printed) that, when the front is solved, the back shows a QR code that will take each user to a custom HA dashboard (not sure how many users I can add in HA, but will be testing that part out soon). I'm using Browser Mod to keep users locked into their own dashboard and nothing else. The Dashboard will use Custom Button and Helpers to show progress, prompt the user for each game, and report back to the server.
Back of House: Since every user will be logged into HA, I will try to build a scoreboard so that every player knows who is in the lead, who solved what, and maybe some fun badges if users solve major puzzles. I may also keep a couple of inexpensive tablets or old phones to loan out for technical issues.
The Game Rounds (7 pm-9 pm) - There will be eight fifteen-minute rounds which will start with music playing and end with a dinner bell. New snacks and themed drinks will be served at the end of every other round. During the game round, each player will be sent to a different room to solve the puzzle in that room. Their dashboard will tell them what room to go to and give them a prompt and perhaps hints to help them with each puzzle.
Some Game Ideas:
The Wednesday Room - I have 3d printed busts, including Wednesday Addams for our master closet. We use them to hang hats. I will try to use a projector to accomplish the Haunted Mansion singing ghost effect and have the busts argue about who is the best Wednesday. Odin will chime in as well but will be mocked by the younger busts as being irrelevant. Mixed into the argument will be clues leading to a combination lock. When the box is opened, a door sensor awards all players points.
Obnoxoius Simon - I have a library shelf with six individually colored lights. The player dashboard will show the six lights. As each light plays, an obnoxious sound also plays, representing that light and color. During the game round, players will hear the sounds and must press the correct colored light in the right spot on their dashboard. After completing 10 in a row, that player will get a point. Players can continue trying until the end of the round.
Four Pullers - In the garage, we will have four columns, each with a pully at the top and a crank at waist level. Each cord runs through the pully and down to a weighted hook. All four players must cooperate to move the hook around the center section that is blocked from their access. The hook must be used to stack blocks. The blocks contain door sensors so they can report back to HA when stacked correctly.
Tilt Marble Game - I will build a giant tilt maze with a metal ball. When the ball reaches the end of the maze, it will trigger a switch and award the player a point. This will be about two meters across and will take more than one player to help play.
I have found some resources for this, such as this YouTuber that focuses on Escape Room games:

2023.05.28 20:14 Travelmanplan Anyone good looking and well endowed still issues
Dont mean sound weird just i feel like as im decent looking with prerty big one i should be having sex life not fapping.
But then im not so sociable now and have some other issues means not much sex life.
Even still when younger and no issues i just chose to fap. I dont even know why?
I probably couldve got laid a lot and had gfs i dont know why i didnt care. Now im getting older i care.
Anyway seeing if anyone relates and does same?
I dont mean sound rude but if you have tiny penis or not likely to attract opposite sex or ones you find attractive then watching lots porn seems a good alternate.
But if good looking and well endowed why chose watch so much porn and fap?
Eg. Maybe not now but few years back i could go out and meet and talk to pretty women easily enough but i chose to stay home fap and play video games. Wtf was i thinking. I so regret that.
Guess at time didnt care.

- 212-248-4 record
- 4 conference titles
- 1-8 bowl record
- 2 consensus All-Americans
- 13 NFL players drafted
Ball State has been pretty consistent, with 26 of their 40 seasons since 1983 having 5+ wins. 4 conference titles is also not bad—3 came between 1989-96, arguably Ball State’s peak with 7 of those 8 years falling into the top 13 seasons in the chart above. It took them 46 years to win their first bowl game, failing on the first 7 tries before finally winning in 2020! Ball State’s 2 consensus All-Americans? 1 person—Brad Maynard, punter. Maynard averaged 46.5 and 45.8 yards per punt in 1995 and 1996, respectively. He was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1997 NFL Draft, and would go on to be the Bears’ punter from 2001-10.
Top 5 Seasons
Worst Season: 1999 (0-11 overall, 0-8 MAC) While the world worried about the Y2K meltdown, Ball State worried about their program melting down. Going just 1-21 from 1998-99, 2 of their 3 worst seasons on this list, the program reached lows it had never seen. Coach Bill Lynch was an Indiana die-hard—he was born in Indianapolis, went to Butler, and since starting his coaching career in 1977, has only spent 2 years coaching outside the state of Indiana. This was Lynch’s 5th season with Ball State. While they weren’t getting manhandled (only one 30+ point loss) like some winless teams have, they weren’t particularly close to getting a win either (only 1 one-possession loss). They averaged 14.3 PPG while giving up 32.8 PPG, and were my 2nd worst team in the nation. Kicker Thomas Pucke was impressively inept, hitting just 2 of 8 FGs. He managed to hang around for 2 more years and convert 6 of 15 for a 4 year total of 12/31 on FGs for a 38.7 FG%.
5. 2012 (9-4 overall, 6-2 MAC) The Ball State Football youtube channel put out a fantastic 15 minute recap of the 2012 season. Coming off a 6-6 year, there was momentum heading into 2012, but uncertainty with losing their top 2 WRs and an unproven defense. The year started with a bang, recording a school record 36 first downs against Eastern Michigan in a season-opening 37-26 win. Indiana took a 39-38 lead with 50 seconds to go in week 3—just enough time for QB Keith Wenning and kicker Steven Schott, who hit a 42 yard FG as time expired for the 41-39 Ball State win. Ball State got their second win over a Power 6 opponent the following week, beating South Florida 31-27 on another late win, this time Wenning to WR Willie Snead. After going back and forth with MAC competition, 6-3 Ball State headed to the Glass Bowl on election night to face #23 Toledo. Ball State rose to the occasion with another last minute TD to win 34-27. A 52-27 win over formerly-ranked Ohio, who had beaten Penn State to start the year, proved even more impressive. Ball State finished the regular season 9-3, with a loss to C-USA runner-up Blake Bortles and UCF in the bowl.
Ball State led the MAC with 15 all-conference selections. QB Keith Wenning threw for 3095 yards, with 24 TD and 10 INT, earning 2nd Team All-MAC. RB Jahwan Edwards had a monster year with 1410 rushing yards and 14 TD on 6.1 YPC, but only made 3rd team in a stacked MAC RB class. WRs Willie Snead, Jamill Smith, and TE Zane Fakes were all 1st Team MAC. Kicker Steven Schott was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist, going 25/32 on FGs, and punter Scott Kovanda was a Ray Guy Award finalist.
4. 1988 (8-3 overall, 5-3 MAC) While 2012 was an offensive explosion, 1988 was about defense, boasting one of the best in the country. 1988 Ball State gave up just 15.5 PPG, while scoring 26.0 PPG. After a 7-1 (5-1 MAC) start, Ball State played Western Michigan (7-1, 5-0) for first place in the conference. Western Michigan took it in a 16-13 dogfight, and it wouldn’t matter much anyway, as Ball State dropped their last conference game 25-27 to Ohio. Back then, Ball State had an annual rivalry against Indiana State for the Blue Key Victory Bell, and the Cardinals got revenge for ISU’s 24-23 upset the year prior, winning 24-10. The most points Ball State gave up all season was just 27, and held opponents to 20 or less in every other game.
3. 2013 (10-3 overall, 7-1 MAC) Picking up where we left off in 2012, Ball State returned Wenning, Edwards, Snead, Fakes, so this team had a lot of potential. Early wins included 31-24 over traditional MAC power Toledo, and 48-27 over Virginia, who had given up just 16 points or less in 3 of their first 4 games. Ball State lived up to the hype—and then some. Blowout wins over Western Michigan, Akron, and Central Michigan took them all the way to 8-1, setting up a matchup with 9-0 #20 Northern Illinois in the premier MAC game of the season. The winner would clinch a spot in the MAC title game, Ball State looking for their first title in 17 years. They went back and forth—deadlocked at 27-27 with 6 minutes left, NIU QB Jordan Lynch fired a 36 yard TD to take the lead, and a few garbage time scores gave NIU a nice looking 48-27 victory that was much closer than the score suggested. Ball State took out their anger on a hapless 0-11 Miami (OH) team to end the year, winning 55-14. Still looking for their first bowl win ever, they came as close as they’ve ever come, giving up a TD with 30 seconds left to lose 23-20 to Arkansas State. Still—an insane year for Ball State, winning 10+ games for just the 3rd time in school history. QB Keith Wenning threw for 4148 yards 35 TD 7 INT, ranking 6th in the nation in passing yards and TDs. RB Jahwan Edwards had his 2nd of 3 1000+ yard seasons, going for 1110 and 14 TD. He’d finish his career as Ball State’s all-time leading rusher a year later with 4558 yards and 51 TD. WR Willie Snead had the capstone of his college career with 106 catches for 1516 yards and 15 TD, ranking 3rd in the NCAA in receiving yards and TD. The 6’3 228 lb Jordan Williams proved to be a very good WR2 with 1000+ receiving yards, and would go on to have 200 catches for 2723 yards and 23 TD in his career, top 6 in school history in all of those categories. Wenning was a 6th round NFL Draft selection, and Snead went on to have a solid NFL career.
2. 2008 (12-2 overall, 8-0 MAC) The 2008 team took the nation by storm. Ball State returned their all-conference QB, WR, TE, and 8 starters on defense from a 7 win team the previous season. Right away, with a week 2 35-23 win over Navy, they proved the prevous season’s win over them wasn’t a fluke. 2 weeks later, they’d make history, beating Indiana 42-20 in the program’s first ever win over a BCS team. Did they stop there? Nope. 3 weeks later they were 7-0, and #22 in the country. This was a great year for non-BCS teams, with Boise State and Utah also going unbeaten in the regular season. The beatings continued, as Ball State kept surprising everyone—38-16 over Eastern Michigan, 45-14 over NIU. Late in the year, #16 9-0 Ball State faced their toughest test of the season, heading north to play 8-2 preseason conference favorite Central Michigan. Down 7 points in the 4th quarter, QB Nate Davis guided the Cardinals back to a 31-24 lead, and a late interception sealed the deal. Ball State still hadn’t secured the MAC title game until the final week, where they beat 9-2 Western Michigan 45-22. Into the MAC championship we go. #12 Ball State was an overwhelming 15 point favorite over 7-5 Buffalo, who was just happy to be there. Ball State’s dream matchup quickly turned into a nightmare. Buffalo had 92 and 74 yard fumble returns for TDs, cruising to a 42-24 upset victory in which they were outgained by 200+ yards. Brady Hoke took the job at San Diego State, and a dejected interim-coached team got blown out 45-14 by Tulsa in the bowl.
QB Nate Davis, the original 2-gloved QB before Teddy “2 glove” Bridgewater was a thing, completed his illustrious college career, throwing for 3591 yards 26 TD 8 INT, leading the MAC in passer rating for the 3rd straight year, and winning 2008 MAC OPOTY. The 5’6 184 lb RB MiQuale Lewis was pound-for-pound one of the best players in college football, rushing for 1736 yards and 22 TD on 5.4 YPC, also racking up 325 receiving yards, ranking 2nd in the nation in yards from scrimmage and 1st in TDs. TE Darius Hill completed his career as one of the best TEs in MAC history, catching 40 passes for 670 yards and 7 TD to finish his career with 2473 yards and 31 TD. Unfortunately, WR Dante Love’s career came to an end 4 games into the season, one of Ball State’s best ever wideouts who caught 100 passes for 1398 yards and 10 TD in 2007. It was an amazing year for Ball State—but no hardware to show for it.
1. 2020 (7-1 overall, 5-1 MAC) 2008, or 2020 Ball State, who was better?
The Ball State youtube channel(s) seriously make some of the best season recap videos of any school. After an opening 31-38 loss at Miami (OH), they were perfect the rest of the way. A 1-yard rushing TD with 6 seconds left secured a 38-31 win over Eastern Michigan to improve to 1-1. 2 weeks later, a 27-24 upset over Toledo improved them to 3-1. It was still a long season ahead with just a MAC schedule in a covid-shortened season, with the toughest games yet to come. A 45-20 road win over 3-1 Central Michigan thanks to 5 TD from QB Drew Plitt improved Ball State to 4-1, with 1 regular season game to go. This is where the 2020 team separated themselves from all other Ball State teams. Facing 4-1 Western Michigan with the winner going to the MAC championship game, Ball State was down 27-13 at the start of the 4th. After a 17-0 point 4th quarter, they had the lead with just seconds to go.
Western Michigan tossing laterals around…OH THE ENTIRE BALL STATE TEAM IS ON THE FIELD!! And Western Michigan scores for the win!! Unbelievable!! It turns out though, one of the laterals was forward, and the refs award Ball State the victory. They go to the MAC championship game at 5-1!
Remember how 2008 Ball State came into the game 15 point favorites against Buffalo and lost? This time, the roles were reversed. Ball State came into the 2020 championship as 13 point underdogs to 5-0 Buffalo. And just like 2008, David slaid Goliath. Ball State took the MAC Championship 38-28, their first since 1996. But still, people hadn’t caught on. Ball State entered the Arizona Bowl as 6.5 point underdogs to #23 San Jose State. 35 minutes of game time later, and Ball State was up 34-0. When the final whistle sounded on a 34-13 bowl victory, it was the FIRST BOWL WIN IN BALL STATE HISTORY! While 2008 was a great year, 2020 takes the cake because they completed the quest of winning a conference title and bowl game. LB Brandon Martin was the MAC DPOTY, leading the conference in tackles with 90.
5th Quarter
Agree with Ball State’s ranking, ahead of in-state rival Indiana? What do you think of their program? Do you remember their 2008 and 2020 seasons?

2023.05.28 20:05 mangophat Water damaged floating floor caused by pipe blockage/overflow. We’re the tenants yay!

2023.05.28 20:03 Suture_Self96 27 [M4F] NYC - A Romance of Mythological Proportions
Writing dating ads for myself feels a lot like a task straight out of a Tartarus punishment. Maybe I'm Tantalus, and instead of food and water being just out of reach, it's instead my soul mate or plausible matches. Maybe this is just a Sysiphusian exercise in futility. Could technically be Prometheus with Reddit plucking out my heart every day, but this is more numbing than painful at this point. Is it so much to ask for a Eurydice, a Luthien or a Hi'iaka of my own? Given that I write as a hobby, I like to think that anyone I'm compatible with is fit for a mythology all their own.
As for myself, I think I have a bit more to offer than just platitudes and some fancy words on a page. 27, so midway between "I don't consider myself a real adult" and "I'm going to have my midlife crisis soon". Last time I checked, I was 5'9. I look white to most people, although I'm actually mixed. Starting out my life as a resident physician this year, so I am 100% serious about only dating people around NYC. Plenty of other hobbies and qualities as well. Experienced traveler? Check. Foodie? Publishing a food blog in the near future. If you like playing and losing in board games and video games, I'm usually the best player at the table, although I do enjoy plenty of cooperative games too. Mostly watch anime these days, so I'm very used to subtitles and watching things on speeds that usually hinder my enjoyment of them. Supposed to be putting my writing skills towards a video game of my own, but medical school was a little bit more work than anticipated. More than well equipped to handle a trivia competition or midnight conversation about some debate topic you might fancy. DDF and vaccinated, and expecting the same. Plenty more besides that, but I already feel gross from advertising myself this much already. Suffice to say that I have plenty to offer, so I like to think I'm asking for something reasonable.
I need a partner that's well educated; college is the minimum. Higher education is certainly a plus! Some overlap with interests would be nice, although not a requirement as long as you have an open mind. Certainly makes it easier to not have to accustom someone to Disney, Ghibli or games of whatever sort. Physical attraction is a must, and I already know I want kids in the future, so a healthy libido wouldn't hurt. As I mentioned, I absolutely refuse to do any long distance relationships, so its NYC and adjacent or bust. Not too particular when it comes to religion, as long as you have an open mind too. Really hoping you're passionate about something too! Beyond that, pretty open to a lot of things.
If the above sounds like you, and the further above sounds like what you're looking for, hit me with a DM or a chat. If you actually read everything and are interested, please respond with your age and location in your message, as well as your favorite food. Obviously would love to know some of the rest of what I mentioned as well. Happy to swap photos as well if we hit it off, since mutual attraction is hard to ascertain otherwise. Here's to hoping for a romance worth writing about, rather than more of these posts.

2023.05.28 19:55 TotalWing3276 How to start Hands-on training?
I have spent the last 4 years reading and reading and memorizing and reading. I have read so much to the point where most books now barely add anything to my knowledge. It all started when I encountered some books, Hacking Exposed, and this series got me interested in learning more and i have been reading and watching videos ever since.
There is one problem tho: I BARELY PRACTICED. Mainly because ... I dont want to leave windows. All tutorials are for linux and i dont want linux. Im very familiar with windows. So I realized this is my biggest problem, I know the theoretical part but not the practical part. So how can I start practicing, like I need some kind of a guide maybe a book that describes the process of trying to hack yourself maybe?
I did a lot of web apps hacking, not enough but this is the easiest and most available thing in my opinion. Free websites to hack are everywhere. What I have problem with practicing is (idk what is it called) something like getting into my own machine (running windows something) on my network and getting to access files here and there.
Sorry if this sounds stupid.
