2023.06.03 17:25 anothernamethatIused Game of thrones style story about the Packers created by AI
Chat GPT created this story in the style of George R R Martin. Itâs a battle between ARod and Jordan Love/Matt Lafleur, lol.
In the realm of the Green Bay, where icy winds swept across the frozen tundra and loyalty to the Packers burned as fiercely as dragonfire, a fierce battle was about to unfold. The reigning champions, led by their valiant quarterback Aaron Rodgers, were preparing to defend their honor against the formidable foes from the land of Lambeau.
The Packers' stronghold stood tall and proud, its walls adorned with the banners of past victories. The warriors, clad in their green and gold armor, sharpened their blades and polished their shields, their eyes gleaming with determination. The destiny of the kingdom rested upon their broad shoulders.
In the opposing camp, the invaders from Lambeau were assembling their forces. Led by their own cunning commander, a wily strategist named Matt LaFleur, they sought to dethrone the reigning champions and claim the throne for themselves. Their troops, clad in the ominous colors of black and gold, were battle-hardened and hungry for victory.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the battlefield, the clash of steel and thunderous roars filled the air. The two armies clashed with a ferocity seldom seen before, neither willing to yield an inch of ground. Every yard gained or lost was paid for in blood and sweat, the echoes of each collision reverberating across the frozen fields.
Rodgers, the legendary quarterback with the arm of a god, weaved his magic on the field. With each throw, he painted a tapestry of precision and artistry, threading the needle through the narrowest of gaps. His receivers, fleet-footed and nimble, danced through the defenders like woodland sprites, their hands snatching the spiraling pigskin with grace.
Yet, the invaders were not to be underestimated. Their quarterback, a stoic figure named Jordan Love, was determined to prove his worth. He commanded his troops with the authority of a seasoned general, his passes slicing through the Packers' defense like arrows. The clash of strategies unfolded as LaFleur, with a cunning worthy of Littlefinger, orchestrated a relentless assault.
As the battle raged on, casualties mounted, and the field turned into a tapestry of mud and blood. Each play became a decisive move in this epic contest of wills, and the outcome hung in the balance. The Packers fought valiantly, their resilience and indomitable spirit pushing them to the brink of victory.
But just when it seemed the scales were tipping in favor of the champions, a twist of fate unfolded. Rodgers, struck by a fierce blow, crumpled to the ground, writhing in pain. His armor stained with the blood of sacrifice, he was carried off the field, leaving the Packers bereft of their leader.
In the absence of their king, the Packers rallied around their fallen comrade. Their hearts burned with a fiery determination, and they fought tooth and nail to preserve their kingdom. Every inch of territory was fiercely contested, each clash a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Packers.
And so, the battle raged on, under a sky painted with the colors of twilight. With every play, the hopes and dreams of a kingdom hung in the balance. In the end, the field lay silent, the outcome uncertain. Both sides had poured their souls into this titanic struggle, leaving nothing behind.
As the warriors retreated to their respective camps, the bards and minstrels prepared to recount this tale of valor and sacrifice. The echoes of the battle would reverberate through the annals of history, forever etching the bravery of the Packers and their indelible mark upon the realm of football.
For in the realm of the Green Bay, where icy winds swept across the frozen tundra, the packers were more than just a teamâthey

2023.06.03 17:05 Proletlariet Connery Bond
The original British man of mystery, James Bond was first brought to life on the screen by
Sean Connery. Dressed to the nines in a tuxedo and armed with a number of concealed gadgets, Bond was sent across the world to stop high scale crimes. His quick wit and commendable physicality has saved the world a half dozen times over.
This Bond, being the traditional mid-century spy, uses many tricks to get a leg up over the enemy. Heâs a very clever, wily agent, although heâs not above just brute forcing his problems with great strength. His Q Branch equipment is disguised as everyday items, so heâs used to being prepared when infiltrating an organization.

2023.06.03 16:59 Spartan113X The Best GFs for each Party Member (A fun, comprehensive (and VERY nerdy) in-depth analysis)
If anyone else is like me then when playing Final Fantasy VIII, they LOVE to assign specific GFs to specific characters, they feel that they fit best with. Over the years and through multiple times playing this game, Iâve always come back to doing this and given it a LOT more thought than I care to admit, to see if I was wrong about any or if one meshes up better with another character. As such, I figured Iâd finally publish my list for anyone who either wants to use it or who wants to challenge my perspective and thinks Iâm wrong about one of them. This will run a bit long, but itâs meant to be fun and comprehensive, so enjoy how much Iâve nerded out on this game for your benefit, lol.
Quezacotl â I associate Zell with ThundeWind, mainly due to the second GF I decided to give him and his energetic personality. In my opinion, the first 3 GFs should be divided amongst the first 3 characters, and everyone should have at least 1 by the end of disk 1. The next 2 are much stronger fits, which explain why this one is assigned to Zell as his first GF, along with his other GF below. If I had to connect it to something else though, Iâd point out how Quezacotlâs wings and body look tattooed like Zellâs face and how if someone is going to goof off slightlyduring battle to turn enemies into collectable trading cards, itâs definitely going to be Zell.
Shiva â Many would say Squall because of his personality, but I disagree which Iâll explain further below. I associate Quistis with Ice/Water, and Shiva even kind of looks like her with the yellow pigtails. Seeing as how itâs obtained from the computer in her classroom or gifted to Squall for the exam by her, it should go back to her as her first GF. Since sheâs also Squallâs support during the exam when obtaining Ifrit, it makes perfect sense she would have the trump card as his support and teacher, in the event he got in trouble. Itâs refine ability also pairs well with another GF weâll give to her further down, due to the fact it refines both Ice and Water magic and groups them together.
Ifrit â Many people want to pair this with Zell, but I think thatâs wrong. Itâs basically a flaming lion with horns. Who better to give it to than to Squall? After all a lion is his motif, it was the first part of his SeeD exam and the first GF he obtained on his own, that wasnât given to him. I also personally associate Squall with the element of Fire. After all, he uses it in Kingdom Hearts which came out shortly after this, one of his swords is called the Flame Saber and pretty much every promotional image of the Gunblade or Greiver symbol has it on fire. Sure, Squallâs personality might by icy, but if you pay attention, heâs a mirror of Seifer. They use the same weapon, so preferring the same magic type, makes perfect sense. It also serves as an excellent juxtaposition against Edeaâs Ice. In addition, Ifritâs compatibility item Red Fang, is needed for Squallâs Gunblade, Twin Lance. Also, to obtain Rinoaâs card, Squall also must lose Ifrit to General Caraway and to get it back, he has to beat the only other Headmaster we meet, Martine: fitting for both the leader of our party and Rinoaâs love interest and Knight. Finally, it has the ability to refine ammo, which even though we donât use it in game, would be necessary for Squallâs Gunblade.
Siren â I initially had the hardest time with this one and Carbnucle, as one had to go to Rinoa and the other to Selphie, both because it fits thematically and for balancing issues as I want everyone to have at least 1 GF by the end of the first disk. Despite the angelic appearance, and the fact itâs a musician and singer like Rinoaâs mother, I chose to give this one to Selphie as her first GF. In the game, Selphie shows more musical interest than Rinoa does, and the GF is obtained in Dollet, shortly after meeting Selphie and as part of her field exam. As such, I felt it should appropriately go to her. Finally, its ability to refine life magic fits in well with Selphieâs White Mage role in the game.
Brothers - Irvine seems like an Earth elemental sort of person to me and the Brothers are found right next to Galbadia Garden, shortly after acquiring Irvine. Seeing as how the tomb is also a requirement for the assassination mission, other Galbadia students failed to conquer it, and how the motto of Galbadia Garden is "Keep on Rockin'", it seems only fitting for him to claim them as his first GF. In addition, their attack is called Brotherly Love which fits in with Irvine being the only character to remember his family from the orphanage. They also perform a move called Mad Cow Special during their boss battle, which aligns with Irvine being a Cowboy. Finally, to obtain Irvine's Triple Triad card, you must lose Brothers first, and if you refine the card, you gain Dino Bones which are necessary for Irvineâs ultimate weapon, while also being Brother's compatibility item. In other countries this GF is also named Taurus, after the zodiac sign of the bull, something cowboys are known for riding.
Diablos â This GF is a gift from Cid, and as such I think it pairs best with Squall, as a gift from one SeeD Commander and Sorceressâs Knight to another. Diablos also specializes in time refinement magic, which I feel aligns perfectly with both his sister, Elloneâs abilities, and that his is destined to fight against Ultimicia who is trying to enact Time Compression. Itâs also the only GF you can obtain as Laguna which kind of adds in a generational aspect to it. Finally, I think the concept of the magic lamp makes for a really cool Bootstrap Paradox. Perhaps Squall lost it at the end of the game and Edea gave it to Cid, to give back to him.
Carbnucle â As I said I initially had trouble with this and Siren for Rinoa and Selphie. Ultimately though, I decided to give this to Rinoa as I feel it fits better than Siren. Carbnucle is obtained in Deiling City, her hometown from the Iguions sent to kill her by Edea. As such, I feel itâs only appropriate that she get this as her first GF, as it has the ability to protect her from magic, through Reflect. Seeing as how it also came from Edea and Rinoa end up being a sorceress, this seemed to fit well as her other GF. In addition it has the ability to refine recovery medicine and itâs card is held by the Card Club Member, the Queen Heart, matching with her last name.
Leviathan - As mentioned above, I matched Quistis with the element of Ice/Water. Leviathan is held in Balamb Garden by Norg, one of her former bosses. To me that says it should go to another faculty member of Balamb Garden, so either Squall or Quistis. Squall in my opinion has much better GFs that align with him, but even without that fact, Quistis is still a stronger candidate. After all, it pairs perfectly with Shiva above, as Shiva refines water magic, not Leviathan. This GF is also responsible for support magic and GF Recovery medicine which seems fitting for your former teacher, making sure both you and your GFs stay healthy. In addition, the Levithan card is held in the training grounds by the Card Club member immediately following her, Joker, and if you refine it, you get Doc's Codes which pairs well with the fact she gained the Card Club Master King position from Dr. Kadowaki.
Pandemona - As I said at the start, I associate Zell with ThundeWind. Pandemona is obtained in Balamb Town, Zell's hometown where he is idolized and seen as a bit of a hero. It's drawn from Seifer's sidekicks on the disciplinary committee that Zell is always getting in trouble with and as such, it seems poetic to me that your sidekick gets to stand up to his bullies, save his hometown, and steal their GF in the process. Finally, the Pandemona Card is also held by hotel owner involved in Zell's Love Quest with the Library Girl, as thatâs their âlove spotâ in the compatibility quiz and where she awards him with a Combat King magazine.
Cerberus - Cerberus is found in Galbadia Garden during the Battle of the Gardens. From what we can tell they had likely started experimenting with GFs. As such, if it's going to go to someone in our party, it should likely go to the only person from said Garden, Irvine. Giving Irvine Cerberus, also mirrors the only other non-SeeD member Rinoa, having both a dog and the only other non-combat GF, Carbnucle. Finally, the Cerberus card modifies into Lightweight, an item drop from another GF related monster, we'll be assigning to Irvine further down, helping tie his GF choices together.
Alexander - Rinoa best fits with the element of Holy in my opinion. After all, she has angel wings on her back, as part of her limit break, and even her on ultimate weapon. She's also constantly surrounded by white feathers and shooting stars throughout the game and in promotional images. Not to mention this Gf is acquired as Ultimicia is defeated in Edea and transfers her powers and consciousness into Rinoa, so it seems only right that the GF should be transferred as well. Besides it's a robotic castle that looks like a knight and I'm sure Squall wouldn't mind the extra help. Alexander can also take transform other spells into the most powerful forms of magic and naturally learns revive, which is fitting for our new sorceress. Finally, the Alexander card is also held by Piet up at the Lunar Base where Rinoa is possessed, unleashes Adel, and shortly after also obtains Adelâs powers, tying further into the fact it should go to a sorceress.
Doomtrain â This one should be obvious. Thereâs one person in the game who constantly talks about trains and their love for them and thatâs, Selphie. A demonic train who inflicts your enemies with poison and every negative status effect imaginable is right up her alley. If we also divide the elements of the game, Poison is left for Selphie, which is fitting as sheâd easily be the one most likely to kill you with it. Plus, Doomtrainâs refine ability allows you to refine forbidden medicine which also fits in with Selphieâs White Mage role. To add in a nod to Selphieâs other GFâs the ring is also obtained under a statue of a girl holding a harp like Siren and the Doomtrain card is obtained from the pub owner in Timber, the same exact location, another GF related card below is found.
Bahamut - Known as the Great GFs according to Squall. This is the King of GFs and as such I feel itâs only proper that it should go to him. After all, his father played Zefer in the movie, The Sorceressâs Knight, and before you face Bahamut, he throws multiple Ruby Dragons at you, so in a way itâs a bit poetic that Squall should obtain the dragon GF, while being Rinoaâs Knight. In addition, Ultimicia also has Tiamat as her ultimate monster before Greiver is pulled from Squall's mind, so it seems only fitting Squall should have its counterpart. The fact you can also obtain the highest magic in the game from him through his refine ability and that he serves as the test to make your way to Eden, only cements this choice further. Finally, his move Megaflare matches up somewhat with Ifrit, as in games where Flare has an element, it's fire.
Cactuar - Cactuar has no clear ties to any of the characters at first glance, however a cactus fits in with Irvineâs whole cowboy & western motif if you think about it. I also noticed at the start of its summon animation, when it jumps in front of the stylized sun, that image of the rays is nearly identical to the circular pendant Irvine wears, and if we look at the bottom of his necklace, it resembles the 3 quills on Cactuar's head. His name is also taken from the word pretender in other languages, which I feel aligns with Irvine, pretending to not know the others until later in the game. Finally, it attacks by shooting 10,000 needles, something fitting for the only person with a gun.
Tonberry - Tonberry at first glance doesn't display any obvious ties to our characters, however if we dig a little deeper, we can see a connection. If we go to Trabia Garden, a cadet mentions the Tonberry GF in his sleep. We also know that as a child, another member of Trabia Garden, Selphie, obtained a GF during an outdoor training session, that she found inside a monster, after defeating it. If we happen to find a secret Timber Mechanics magazine, it adds an entry on the computer which shows a younger Selphie taking a trip to the Centra Ruins as a child. If we connect the dots, this leads me to believe that IF it's one of the GFs we encounter in the game, Selphie's childhood GF was likely Tonberry. In addition Tonberry has numerous shopping related abilities such as, Sell High, Familiar, Haggle, and Call Shop, that all pair thematically well with Selphieâs other GF, Doomtrain, and his Junk Shop ability, tying everything together. Tonberry King even attacks you with Junk while youâre battling him. Plus when it comes down to it, who else do you realistically get cute and borderline psycho killer vibes from? Finally, while you obtain the Doomtrain card from the pub owner in Timber, you can get the Tonberry Card from the drunken drifter nearby, further tying them together.
Eden - The ultimate GF. The only 2 people it could logically go to is either Squall or Rinoa. Of those, I think Squall is a better fit as you obtain it from the 2nd most powerful monster in the game, and if you miss it, it's obtained from Tiamat, Bahamut's counterpart. It's also a mobile garden after all, and who better to go to than our protagonist and the creator of both Garden and SeeDs. Eden also contains a few angel wing motifs throughout its design which adds in a nod to Rinoa and nice thematic imagery with Squall being her knight. Finally, it has an attack called Eternal Breath which alludes to time, and the fact both Squall and his archenemy Ultimicia are bound to it. It's refine ability also allows you to teach all other GFs abilities which is appropriately fitting for the Garden Commander.
Additional Notes â Some may ask why Irvine and Selphie got 3 and everyone else except for Squall got 2. This is mainly due to Cactuar and Tonberry as thereâs really no one they pair better with in my opinion than Irvine and Selphie. If you want an in-universe reason though to keep with the theme, I feel because Trabia and Galbadia are not as experienced with GFs, Squall may want to help get them up to speed. This does not need to be done for Rinoa cause by this time sheâs a Sorceress. I think it also works well as those 2 are our B couple in the game. It could also be cause the other 3 have been using GFs longer, so by giving it to them, it could help Squall, Zell, and Quistis slightly combat the effects of memory loss.
Rinoa and Irvine got the support GFs cause theyâre not SeeD and cause I saw Squall wanting them to practice before they were allowed more powerful summons. The exception to this was Brothers and only because necessity demanded it with Irvine being involved with the assassination mission against the Sorceress. It was also nice to be able to give Irvine a dog, since Rinoa already had one.
ThundeWind and Ice/Water are paired up in this game with Quezacotl and Shiva, so I did the same with Zell and Quistis. I feel these fits well as theyâre the original Balamb SeeDs along with Squall, while Selphie is technically a transfer. This means the Final Fantasy trifecta starting elements of Fire, Thunder, and Ice are divided amongst the original Balamb Members.
So thatâs everything. If I messed up on something, missed something I couldâve added, or someone else fits better with a specific GF, feel free to comment below and give me your analysis.

2023.06.03 15:06 PigPotter Memorial Day weekend 2023 recap - things I learned (if this helps anyone)
| - If youâre exhausted at the end of a day with kids - be extra careful when changing a park reservation, I accidentally clicked the day we were leaving. Thankfully was able to change it day of, but missed VQ for GOTG in Epcot (ended up paying for a Lightning Lane).
- watched countless videos of MK restaurant reviews, if you live in an area like NYC like we do, and have kids - they all seem quite very similar (unless youâre really going to a fine dining one like Victor & Alberts) Iâm guessing? We chose to stick with our usual approach and do quick service. My 9 year old grazes throughout the day so we bring snacks, and it just wasnât worth the time weâd lose in the parks and the additional $ we could put toward genie+. No one regretted saving +$200 that we would have dropped for dinner or lunch to get a quick sighting of the Beast at Be our Guest. Instead we got LeFouâs brew and souvenir mug and saw Belle at Enchanted Tales in MK.
- I chose POP over Caribbean, at first I wanted to go to Caribbean to be close to Riviera for the food. But reality is with all the walking, we at breakfast and lunch mostly while at POP, the food wasnât great it wasnât horrible, but it was convenient not to leave and be close to the pool. Itâs very likely youâll end up mostly eating wherever you choose to stay (if youâre doing long park days, whenever youâre at the hotel) and Riviera was like less than 12 mins away on skyliner and we visited it once and it was worth the savings we had gotten by staying at POP. Room is clean and newly renovated and my son LOVED the murphy bed. Kids were happy with the pool, no pool slide but depends how important that is to you. We were able to upgrade to 3 day park hopper with the savings between POP and Caribbean.
- the skyliner is a fun way to start the day if you arenât staying at a hotel that has one and can still drive or get to one to take it - highly recommend it
- we got lucky with an empty HS evening and Galaxyâs edge lines were low and no crowds. Less lucky MK on a day it was open till 11pm as more people showed up in the evening and lines were long (we didnât do genie+ as I wasnât expecting the crowds after reviewing the crowd calendar for Tues May 30)âŠ
- disabilities as we all know are not always obvious. Thank you to the kind people who saw my son struggling and were understanding and incredibly supportive. Some people give looks, which if I didnât know autism as well as I do know, it may raise eyebrows as his behavior doesnât match his age. Everyoneâs got something theyâre going thru. With autism itâs definitely a place thatâs over stimulating and exhausting. To echo disney âbe the magic you wish to seeâ - this family next to us on our bus was so kind and understanding during my sonâs exhausted meltdown, it was very nice to know there are people out there like them.
For the future - I learned taking a bus to MK is great, but for the return I would do a taxi for us, it was just too much after a long day for him (we had no midday break that day) with crowds and learned the hard way. - donât under estimate Epcot, we almost skipped it by my 12 daughter and 9 year old son enjoyed the world showcase, we did frozen and ratatouille and GOTG and had a lot of fun collecting postcards in each country.
- we lost a minion King Bob figure in Epcot (he may have jumped ship and decided to live in Frozen adventure), found a replacement one on Etsy. So tiny he never made it to lost and found.

2023.06.03 14:49 chuckhustmyre [TH] Mirror Image
By Chuck Hustmyre
William Bailey's forehead shattered the mirror like a sledgehammer. The last thing he remembered before he blacked out was the feeling that he was falling through the mirror. Sub-cranial hematoma, a concussion, maybe even a cracked skull--that had to be the reason for the strange feeling. The mirror was mounted on the wall just to the right of the bar, four feet tall by about three feet wide. As consciousness slipped away, common sense and his strong belief in the rational world told him that he couldn't fall through the mirror. He must have bounced his head off the wall and be falling toward the floor.
It seemed like just a second or two before William's eyes popped open. He lay on his back, on the hard wood floor of Fausto's, with Johnny Davis towering over him. Big Johnny probably wanted to finish him off, maybe kill him, and finally end their twenty-year-old feud. Either Big Johnny Davis and the ceiling lights above him were spinning, or William's head was spinning, but either way something wasn't right.
He raised his head and looked to his left, toward the bar. Except the bar wasn't there. Instead, he was staring at the bathrooms. That didn't make sense. It must be his brain that had gotten spun around. William turned his head and peered over his size-ten wingtips at the busted mirror. The wooden frame and most of the glass still clung to the wall, the rest sat broken on the ground. The bar had to be on his left. He looked again, and still saw the bathrooms. A brain bruise, maybe some fluid pressure building up might be the cause of it.
"Get up!" Big Johnny Davis said.
William looked up at him. Johnny stood behind him, just beyond his shoulders. Perfect place for him to stomp my head into the plank floor. Except Johnny Davis was holding out his hand.
"Come on, we've got to get out of here."
Davis looked scared. It was the first time William Bailey could ever remember Johnny Davis looking scared. William had always been scared of Big Johnny, but Big Johnny wasn't scared of anything or anyone.
Police sirens wailed in the distance.
Johnny glanced over his shoulder. William craned his neck to look where Johnny was looking, saw he was staring at the front door like a man terrified something bad was going to come through it. Big Johnny looked down at him again and pumped his hand. "Come on, get up. They'll be here any second."
"Who?" William asked. "Who'll be--" But before he finished, Big Johnny Davis reached down, grabbed him by both arms, and jerked him to his feet.
As he was dragged toward the door by the only man in town who truly hated him, William glanced up and saw the rusted metal sign nailed above the door. He had to have a concussion, probably severe; that had to be it, because the letters on the sign were backward. It said TUO.
As Johnny Davis pulled him out the door, William heard tires skid on the pavement.
"Where's your car?" Johnny asked.
William twisted away from the big man's grip, then turned to his left. "In the alley." He started to run, still not sure exactly what he was running from.
Behind him, Big John shouted, "The alley's over here."
William kept running but turned his head back toward Johnny. "I know where the alley--"
Something hit him across the midsection and toppled him to the ground. He got his hands up just in time to break his fall and managed to keep his head from slamming into the sidewalk. When he looked up he saw a shopping cart tumbled onto its side.
Once again, William found himself lying flat on his back, this time amid the spilled contents of the cart. It had been filled with junk: paper bags full of dirty clothes, canned food, bags of potato chips, a diamond shaped, orange road sign, and other trash that looked like it had been collected from back alley garbage bins.
The homeless man who'd been pushing the cart was scrawny, and wafer thin. His skin was the color of old shoe leather, and he wore a long gray beard, tangled and matted with food and bits of filth. He was sprawled on the ground next to his cart, half sitting up, staring at William with his bright blue eyes.
Car doors slammed, men shouted.
"You better get going," the homeless man said, as he cocked his head. "The police after you?"
Police!
Before William could assure the old man that the police weren't after him--he was a respected businessman and family man--someone behind him grabbed him under both arms and pulled him to his feet. William turned and found himself staring into the face of Johnny Davis. "The alley's that way," Johnny said, pointing to the other side of Fausto's. With one hand gripping William's jacket, Johnny dashed across the front of the bar toward the alley. The alley--right there, plain as day--on the other side of Fausto's, right where it shouldn't be, where it couldn't be. William had been here a thousand times. As you stepped out of the bar, the alley was on the left, Brockton's Ace Hardware on the right. Now everything was mixed up and in the wrong place.
Johnny Davis turned down the alley, dragging William behind him. After just a few steps, a spotlight flashed in front of them.
"Stop!" a voice commanded. "Get on the ground."
William couldn't see because Johnny was in his way. "Who's that yelling?" he asked.
Big Johnny stopped and William plowed into his back.
"Get on the ground," the voice boomed again.
William poked his head out from behind Johnny Davis's back. The blinding white light was in his face. He couldn't see a thing.
POP! POP! POP!
Gunshots.
Big Johnny sagged, then crashed to his knees. Instinctively, William bent forward and grabbed hold of Johnny. "What's the matter?"
More pops.
Johnny's big hand reached out and shoved William back toward the street. "Back door," he wheezed, then plunged forward onto his face.
William stood alone. Behind the white spotlight he saw blue police lights flashing. He was totally exposed.
POP! POP!
He saw flashes--little yellow spurts of flame--as something tugged at his jacket.
William had said "back door." What back door? Fausto's had a back door, but it didn't lead anywhere except to the open space behind the building used for trash and deliveries. Twenty feet of asphalt between the bar and the back of the building on the next block. William had parked his car at the end of the alley, but the police cars--or whatever they were--had the alley blocked off. The building behind Fausto's also had an alley that ran alongside it, but the owner had closed it off to keep the bums out. He'd put up a gate, padlocked it, and topped it with razor wire. It was a dead end.
Two more pops. Dead end or not it was better than standing here and getting shot. William turned and ran. He burst through the front door of Fausto's, dashed through the bar, past the shattered mirror, hit the back door at a dead run, and was outside behind the bar within seconds.
He could see the tail end of his car sticking out from the corner of the building, but with the cops blocking the alley, his car was useless to him. William glanced across the open space to the alley that ran next to the other building. The gate, the padlock, the razor wire--all still in place. To his right an overflowing garbage dumpster sat beside the back of Fausto's, jammed against the fire ladder.
The fire ladder.
An iron ladder bolted to the cinderblock wall.
William looked up. The top of the ladder was lost in shadow, but he knew it went up two stories to the roof. Last summer, when the toilet had stopped up, he'd come out back to take a leak and had stood behind the dumpster, peeing against the wall like a kid, one hand draped over the bottom rung of the ladder.
He slipped behind the dumpster. The smell made him gag. The bottom of the ladder was four feet from the ground. William reached up as high as he could, grabbed hold of the third rung, then hauled himself up.
Through the partially open back door came the sounds of heavy feet pounding on the hard wood floor of the bar.
Halfway up the ladder, he was exhausted--and scared. Shaking, he white-knuckled the ladder. Being more than ten feet off the ground terrified him. He needed a break, just a second or two to catch his breath. There was enough moonlight so he could see into one of the second story windows. Inside, junk was piled everywhere. Old barstools, a busted jukebox, furniture stacked almost to the ceiling. Years ago, old man Fausto lived on the second floor, but Jake, who'd bought the place from the old man and had decided to keep the name, used it for storage.
Below him, William heard the back door thrown open so hard it banged against the wall. He scrambled up until he reached the top of the ladder, then hoisted himself over the edge of the roof. Down on the ground a voice shouted, "There he is, up there."
Another gunshot. What the hell was going on?
The unmistakable sound of feet--fast feet, in shape feet, boot shod feet--scurrying up the ladder. Standing on the tar and pebble roof, William glanced around for something he could use as a weapon, shocked he was even thinking of such a thing. A five gallon plastic bucket was all there was. It stood upright, filled with rainwater. He picked it up and peered over the edge. A uniformed policeman was three quarters of the way up the ladder. Two more cops were right behind him.
William looked at the heavy bucket in his hands, thought about just dumping the water onto them but knew it wouldn't stop them. There was only one way to stop them, and that was to knock them off the ladder. He thought about warning them, maybe trying to scare them away. But they were cops. You couldn't scare them away.
So why had they shot Johnny Davis, and why were they shooting at him?
The first officer looked up and saw William staring down at him with the bucket in his hands. Their eyes locked for just a second and the cop stopped. In those eyes that stared back at him, William saw an almost maniacal determination that sent a shiver down his spine. The officer held his grip on the ladder with his right hand while his left dropped to the pistol resting in his gleaming leather holster. In one smooth motion he drew his gun and raised it toward William.
William Bailey tossed the bucket down the ladder. A shot rang out an instant before the heavy bucket thudded into the cop's head. Like a gruesome traffic accident happening before his eyes, William couldn't help but watch as the policeman fell, taking his two partners down with him. The last thing William saw before he turned away was a jumbled heap of black uniforms resting on the concrete below the ladder.
* * *
Hiding in the shadow of a telephone booth, thinking. Home. He had to get home. Had to get back to Marge and the kids. Maybe somehow he could explain what had happened. Vincent, his attorney, he would know what to do--maybe--but he was a civil lawyer not a criminal attorney. He wrote contracts and did personal injury on the side; he didn't get people out of jail who'd killed a cop by dropping a bucket of water on his head and knocking him and his buddies off the side of a building.
As the cab he'd been waiting for pulled up, William stepped out from the dark and climbed into the back seat.
The driver turned around. "Where to?"
William pulled the door shut. "Uptown. 1721 Audubon Court."
"Fare's gonna be about fifteen dollars. After dark, I gotta have the money up front."
"What?"
"Company policy." The cabbie shrugged. "A lot of drivers been getting stiffed."
William opened his wallet, pulled out a twenty and handed it across the seat. The driver took it and almost slipped it into his cash box, then took a second look at the bill. His face tightened. "What the hell is this?"
"Huh?"
With the bill stretched between his hands, the cabbie stared at it for a second then looked up at William. "You're either the dumbest counterfeiter who ever lived or you've been had."
"What you are talking about?"
The driver faced the bill toward William but didn't hand it back to him. "It's printed backwards."
William looked at the twenty-dollar bill in the man's hand. It looked like--it was--an almost brand new bill, nothing wrong with it as far as he could tell.
"Get out of my cab," the driver said.
William didn't know what the man was talking about but knew he didn't want to get out. This cab was his only way home. He reached for the twenty. "If you don't like that one I've got another--"
The driver pulled his hands away. "I ain't giving this back. I got to turn it in to the police." He dropped one hand behind his seat back, then came up clutching a pistol, an old German Luger by the looks of it, the muzzle aimed straight at William's face. "In fact, I bet they give me a reward if I bring you in with it."
William jerked the door handle and rolled out into the street. He sprang to his feet and ran, the driver's yells just background noise. Has everyone gone crazy or is it just me?
Home. He had to get home.
* * *
Rain. Driving, relentless rain. William was just two blocks from Fausto's. In two hours, that's as far as he'd gotten--one block an hour. Police cars prowled the neighborhood, shinning spotlights into every nook and cranny, lighting up every shadow. Everyone in Fausto's knew his name. He'd been going there three or four nights a week after work for years. The cabbie had his address. William had given it to him when he told the hack driver where to drop him.
Ten o'clock at night, with nowhere to go and no way to get there, William sat behind the closed Goodwill store, under an overhang that barely kept the rain off of him.
Huddled in the dark, head sunk between his knees, he hadn't heard anyone approach.
"You don't look so good."
Startled, William looked up, prepared to run again. It was the homeless man he'd knocked over outside the bar. The one with the shopping cart and the leathery skin. William relaxed a little. "Excuse me?"
The man pushed his cart closer. "You're not supposed to be here."
William looked around. "Why not?"
The old man grinned, half his teeth gone.
William found it nearly impossible to tell his age. The guy could be forty and maybe had lived a hard life, or perhaps he was a well-preserved seventy, pickled by a lifetime of booze. William waved him off, expecting a plea for money. "I can't help you."
The old man stopped just a few feet away. "Everything's out of place isn't it?" He had a strange lilting voice. Almost like an accent.
And he was right. Everything was out of place--from Johnny Davis to the cab driver--everything was wrong.
Strapped to the back of the old man's shopping cart was a plastic sign about the size of a loaf of bread. William recognized the sign, the words, the colors, the logo of a local supermarket chain, all were familiar to him, but the letters were backward, unreadable.
Rainwater ran down William's face. He pointed to the sign. "Why's it written like that?"
The old man looked at the sign then back at William. "Like what?" he said, then shuffled away behind his basket.
* * *
The rain came down even harder. William slouched in a darkened doorway across the street from Fausto's. Nothing made sense. Everything was messed up, backward, out of whack. Almost like this wasn't his home, like he was a stranger seeing it for the first time.
But that was crazy. He'd grown up here, gone to Brother Martin High School, dated Jenny Underhill who went to Cabrini, lost her to Johnny Davis, then got her back only to lose her again the first year of college to some kid who drove a Mustang. Two years later William married Marge at Saint Luke's. They had two kids.
This town was his home. He recognized it. He knew the people here, Big Johnny and Zeke, the bartender at Fausto's. But things were different, little things. John Davis for one. In trying to help him, the big man had gotten himself killed. That wasn't John Davis--at least not the one William Bailey had known since seventh grade. Everything looked the same but wasn't. Nothing was quite right.
But they knew him--or someone like him.
A strange sensation crept over him that made the hair on the back of his neck rise. Maybe he didn't belong here. Maybe everything wasn't as it appeared. Maybe this wasn't his home. But if that were true, then whose home was it? Another thought, even scarier seeped through his brain. If he was here, who was there--at his home?
Crazy.
William dropped his head into his hands. Just considering such nonsense was a waste of time. Yet, here he was scanning the street, thinking of going back inside Fausto's, back to that mirror.
Not much time to think about it. The bar closed at three AM and it was already two-thirty. When he'd left--run for his life with Big Johnny--most of the mirror was still in the frame hanging on the wall.
Something about that damned mirror.
But Fausto's was dangerous, so a couple of hours ago William had found another mirror. In the men's room of a twenty-four hour gas station. The Chevron on North Rampart.
He had approached it cautiously, afraid he was going mad. As he peered over the sink into the mirror, he saw what he always saw, his own reflection. Holding up his left hand, he looked at the image in the mirror, at the watch strapped to his wrist. He noticed that the man in the mirror wore his watch on his right hand. Just the opposite.
William stood in the gas station bathroom for twenty minutes before he worked up his nerve. Finally, he took a deep breath, leaned back, then slammed his forehead into the dirt-streaked mirror. The glass shattered and cut his head. Blood dribbled off the tip of his nose into the sink. His reflection stared out at him from the other side of the mirror, blood running down his face, too.
I have gone crazy!
So the gas station hadn't worked out. Ducking police cruisers, William had wandered the streets, his head reeling. What was he doing?
On the sidewalk, he found a sopping wet magazine that the wind had blown up against the side of a newspaper machine. The cover caught his eye. He picked it up. It was printed backwards, the letters reversed, words running right to left. The spine was on the right. As he flipped through the pages, he couldn't read a thing. Then William had an idea.
In the bathroom of an all night restaurant he held the wet magazine up to the mirror. Perfect. The reflected image was normal, spine on the left, words running left to right, all the letters printed correctly. He could read it clearly. But what did it mean?
Then he drove his head into that mirror. The glass cracked. Someone walked in, a skinny waiter wearing an apron. He stood gawking as William leaned over the sink with tears of pain filling his eyes.
The waiter looked at the broken mirror, then jabbed a finger at William's bloody forehead. "What the hell are you doing?"
"An accident," he mumbled, pressing his fingers against the fresh cut.
The waiter turned. "I'm calling the cops."
William Bailey ran.
Now he was huddled in the rain staring at Fausto's across the street. Because he had nowhere else to go.
He stood and walked toward Fausto's. When he was halfway across the street, a police car glided around the corner, headlights reflecting off the wet pavement. The cops in no hurry, just cruising. William forced himself to keep walking, not to run. One foot in front of the other. In the downpour, odds were that the cops wouldn't even recognize him.
But they did recognize him.
The police car slid to a stop as its high beams clicked on and its blue strobe lights started popping. Both front doors flew open.
Like a sinner seeking the sanctuary of a church, William ran straight for Fausto's door. As he burst inside, Zeke looked up from behind the bar. "William! What the hell are you doing here?"
He ignored the bartender, running right past him, eyes focused on the broken mirror and its busted frame hanging on the wall.
Zeke again, "The cops been looking all over for you. Say you killed two officers and--"
Behind him the front door banged against the wall. "Police!" a voice behind him commanded. "Stop."
But William didn't stop. He kept running--running straight for the mirror. Reflected in its fragmented pieces he saw two uniformed police officers behind him, heard their boots pounding on the wooden floor. Just ten feet separated him from the mirror. At full speed he took two strides then dove. He stretched his arms out overhead and tucked his chin into his chest as his feet left the floor.
He felt one hand hit wall and the other strike broken glass. Then his head hit. More glass cracked, more skin split.
Darkness.
* * *
William's eyes popped open. He was staring at the ceiling. Rough voices, even rougher hands. They rolled him over onto his stomach and jerked his arms behind his back. He felt cold steel on his wrists and heard the metallic ratcheting as the handcuffs tightened and bit into his skin.
He tilted his head up and rested his chin against the floor. Blood poured down the side of his face; he watched it pool on the floor then seep between the wooden planks. By rolling his eyes up he could just see the empty spot on the wall where the mirror had hung. Lying on the floor, three feet from his head, was the broken frame and the rest of the glass.
The two cops grabbed his arms and yanked him to his feet, sending waves of pain through his shoulders and wrists. As they spun him toward the door, one of the officers said, "You're under arrest."
"Why?" William asked.
The officer pressed his face into William's. "Murdering your family for starters."
"My...my family." William felt his stomach cinch and his bowels turn to ice. A thought he'd had earlier in the night echoed inside his head. If he was here, who was there--at his home.
As the cops dragged him across the floor, William glanced up and saw the rusted metal sign nailed above the door.
OUT.
He was home.

2023.06.03 09:37 EMD_F40PH Favorite and least favorite places for food around campus?
Places I like:
- Jim's Original - Probably my favorite fast food restaurant, the burgers are awesome. They're also open late night. Their next door competitor Express Grill is also very good IMO.
- Gharab Naweez - Prices are not bad at all. The biryani plates are very big, enough for two meals if you save half in a takeout box for later.
- Mochinut - I like their hot dogs and donuts, with a variety of flavors to choose.
- Zeus Restaurant - Their gyros are pretty good, and prices are reasonable.
- High Five Ramen - Kind of a stretch, but probably the best ramen around. Pricy though.
- Costco - The food court doesn't check membership so you can get food without a membership. Even with inflation, the dog and soda combo is still $1.50. For some reason I also like the taste and texture of their soft serve ice cream.
Places I dislike:
- Taco Burrito King - Overrated IMO. Food is mid, tacos meat is very wet and runny and I can't really explain it but the flavor isn't the best. Only good thing is they're open very late and very close walk from ARC.
- Joy Yee - I previously went to a different location in the suburbs a few times and the food wasn't that good. The one near UIC recently reopened, so I figured I try it. Pad thai was dry and rather bland, and boba tea wasn't really that good either (maybe better than the MyCha vending machines).
- United Table (SCE dining hall) - In fall 2022 semester the food was better. But now they don't change the menu as often as before, and on weekends the food is very mediocre. JST is better IMO, I'll probably write a separate thread about it sometime later.

2023.06.03 08:06 johnwgalore Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Letter from a Birmingham Jail . A Man
2023.06.03 06:59 Hans_vonPoopenfarten [EVENT][RETRO] Hedgehog Posting
February, 1519
Praetor Ferdinand the Fat of Dithmarschen sat in his chariot as four exhausted horses carried his fat ass to meet Martin Luther. He knew nothing of theology, and often flagrantly violated the Christianityâs most basic tenets. He was going because he wanted to elect Martin Luther as the Pope of Dithmarschen, whatever that meant. The years of feasting and whoring had come up on Ferdinand the Fat, as he could no longer undertake his duties as sovereign without kegs of beer or poor wenches present. He couldnât form full sentences any longer, nor focus on anything that didnât involve decadence. Ferdinand the Fat would bankrupt Dithmarschen fulfilling his vices were he to be kept alive. But, he still rode on to the feast at Wittenberg. His caravan was made up of two men on horseback. Kurt Nenne and Senator Hans-Peter Nanne rode behind their Praetor. Their horses were obviously stressed; that shoddy chariot guiding them couldnât have gone any slower. Both were armed with shortbows, better suited for hunting small game than protecting their large vanguard. Kurt and Hans-Peter looked at each other with clenched, flat grimaces. This journey was hell on Earth, and they hadnât even made it to Albersdorf yet! Peasant farmers tending to the land watched this sorry show of splendor saunter through the swamp. They despised Ferdinand the Fat as well. He was a whoremonger and a lazy sack of shit who invested little into Dithmarschen while building entire cities in Norway. He wasnât fit to be Praetor. He wasnât a folk hero like Praetor Wulf or a warrior-monk like Praetor Reimer. Praetor Ferdinand, to them, was a fat devil worshiper. Kurt and Hans-Peter agreed to kill Ferdinand the Fat for the sake of Dithmarschenâs stability. Hans-Peter silently waved to some farmers on the dikes to his left. Kurt thrashed quietly to call the attention of the peasantâs on the right-hand dike. Both mimed shooting Ferdinand the Fat with imaginary arrows before their captive audiences. Kurt and Hans-Peter could see the farmersâ bodies shake as they dumbly chuckled, before giving a thumbs up and going back to work. âThe people want itâ
murmured Kurt. Hans-Peter curtly replied, âyep.â
Both raised their bows, nocked their arrows, drew their bows, and gently released. Both arrows hit Ferdinand in his fat back. Either dead, in shock, or unharmed, he continued looking forward as his chariot slowly marched. This failure to move the unmovable prompted them to draw and release. Two more arrows hit their mark, with no response. Two more hit, and two more, and two more, and being shot in swift succession while the Praetor sat still and unresponsive. Both menâs quivers were emptied. Most of the arrows turned Ferdinandâs back into a pincushion. A moment passed before his lardy frame slid off of the chariot into the road. From there, it slid into the boggy water to the right of the road. He laid face down in the bog. He was once the most powerful man in Dithmarschen, but now he was a dead gigantic hedgehog dying by the roadside. He gave no last words, but gave one last sigh as life left him. Praetor Ferdinand the Fat was dead. Hans-Peter and Kurt were successful in their mission, and any witnesses were too happy with his death to consider it a crime. The two horsemen dismounted their horses, got on the chariot, turned around, and rode to Meldorf to deliver the great news. [M: Ferdinand the Fat is dead. The office of Praetor will not be filled for some time, as the Senate of Dithmarschen will temporarily take total control of Dithmarschen.]

2023.06.03 05:04 AnonoForReasons America is one of the youngest democracies in the world.
South Africa was a brutal regime. Its apartheid system was cruelly designed to disenfranchise and legally prevent native South Africans from voting. It was only after the great Nelson Mandela and his call for freedom and equality that apartheid was cast down and all citizens were able to vote and only then that democracy truly came to South Africa.
Hop and skip across a narrow sea and now America, in all her shining glory, too was not a democracy until the barriers that prevented Black Americans and women from voting were ended thanks in large part to extraordinary individuals like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
And America only truly ended these shameful tactics of racial disenfranchisement in the late 60s with the Voting Rights Act. Sure, maybe we could count earlier and say that ackshewally Blacks could vote earlier, but for all intents and purposes they couldnât. And even if you wanted to be that dick, women couldnât vote until the 20s so that still makes America one of the youngest democracies in the world.
As a proud and patriotic American, I gotta say, thatâs pretty sad.

2023.06.03 04:57 nimmoisa000 Open world crime game idea Cartel: Palm City.
Developed by Hangar 13, DICE, Ripple Effect Studios, EA Gothenburg, and Criterion Games and published by EA.
Additionally former EA Black Box and Ghost Games employees who would help access game assets and code from previous NFS titles to streamline the development)
Cartel (or alternatively as âCartel: Palm Cityâ or "Cartel: Miami" ) would be an open world title based on the Mafia Games, the GTA games and the Saints Row games, with elements of Battlefield: Hardline thrown in with an array of weapons and vehicles based on their real life counterparts.
Gameplay wise the driving would be like Need for Speed titles, and on foot and shooting mechanics like BF: Hardline and Saints Row. Plus you can customize your cars and weapons to the same extent in BF: 2042 and some cars would allow for mounted weapons,on foot you can execute people with your equipped weapon like in The Godfather games. On foot would be an FPS view (you can change to a third person view as well) same with having an FPS view in your car.
There would an single player experience point system (like in BF Hardline single player) you gain XP from killing gangsters, and cops blowing up or capturing enemy vehicles and completing main missions, side missions and activities also there will be 15 levels to achieve with each level up unlocking new weapons, vehicles and customization for your weapons and vehicles. As well as a New Game Plus (NG+) where everything you unlocked is carried over and you can also play on the higher difficulties through NG+.
Also there would be five wanted levels for police and five vendetta levels for the gangs should you reach level five gang vendetta you start a Gang War there are three ways to stop a Gang War either bribe the feds, blow up a gang stronghold, or hide out in a safe house. Police wanted levels one and two local units would come after the player, at police wanted level two or three the state police would come after the player. At wanted level four and five the feds would come after the player. The military will only come after the player if they trespass in Fort Rockport or the Palmount Naval Shipyard
The Storyline
In Cartel: Palm City; in a different universe and timeline where there's a total prohibition of all narcotics in the United States in 2010; tells the story of Jack Rourke (the player character) a hardworking rideshare driver at day and a street racer at night who's scraping by in Palm City circa 2019. One fateful night, Jack Rourke has an inadvertent brush with the Blackwell Syndicate (mainly Carl Stoddard and that showcases a life of reward too big to ignore. As he joins the Blackwell Syndicate who are fighting for control of Palm City against five other criminal groups and take the city for the Blackwell Syndicate including recovering evidence that could not only convict the Blackwell Syndicate, as well as a network of crime lords in many countries, (including the other gangâs backers) including the Blackwell Syndicate's backers the Mob and it would also directly implicate the CIA in Palm Cityâs drug trade with Jack Rourke earning the nickname âEl Sicarioâ for his efforts in driving the other gangs out of Palm City. When he learns how much the drugs were hurting the people of Palm City and all over the country as well as learning that the Blackwell Syndicate had gotten into the drug trade themselves, he contacts FBI agent Chase Linh who relays the story to her and offers the evidence and his testimony in exchange for full immunity for him and his associates, and the evidence on the computer was enough to convict everyone form all the five gangs, but also their crime lord backers from at least half a dozen countries, as well implicating the CIA in this as well as lobbying efforts to keep all narcotics prohibited, leading to a new administration repealing the Narcotics Prohibition law and legalizing low level cannabis. However six months later after the repeal of the Narcotics Prohibition Jack Rourke would be gunned down by Russian Mafia hitmen, Dimitri "Dima '' Mayakovsky and Henry "Black" Blackburn.

The Gangs of Palm City
L.S 16 (Los Salmos 16) - Also known as The Salmos. Backed by the most powerful Mexican drug lords and the most powerful arms traffickers in the world, L.S 16 once ruled all of Palm City In fear until The House stepped in. Theyâre also the strongest gang in the game with access to military grade weapons and vehicles and each gang kill from them awards 500-1,500 XP depending on the enemy type. They are led by Neil Roark.
The House - The House is a gambling gang with strong ties and backed by the Sicilian Mafia; they run the street scene and the casinos in Palm City. Theyâre pretty strong but weaker than L.S 16, and they have access to military grade weapons and vehicles each gang kills from them awards 250-800 XP depending on the enemy type. Headed by Lina Navarro.
The Volk - The Volk is a Chinese-Russian gang led by Roman Barkov with Niko Barkov as their enforcer backed by the Triads (Chan Wu), the Russian Mob (Dimitri Glebov), and GMAC's crew (Gregory "GMAC" MacDonald, Rose Largo) for cars who control the weapon smuggling and arms dealing in Palm City. With this backing and access to military grade weapons. They are a mid tier gang and each gang kill from them awards 200-600 XP depending on the enemy type. They are also the ones who go after the Blackwell Syndicate the most.
Palm Kings - The Palm Kings (PKs) is a Black gang made up of Black nationalists who controls Palm Harborâs rackets and extorts store owners. Led by Benny King, theyâre equipped with police-grade weaponry and has strong ties with the PCPD despite this, they are the second weakest gang in the game and each gang kill from them awards 150-500 XP depending if it's a regular to elite
Dixie Paladins - The Dixie Paladins are a white supremacy gang and a militarized version of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) who controls the Gold Coast Mountains in the mountainous regions of Palm City. theyâre the weakest gang in the game and each gang kill from them awards 100-250 XP from regular to elite members. They are led by Tony Alpert
Blackwell Syndicate - The Blackwell Syndicate is a underground criminal organization based in Palm City and is led by Marcus Blackwell with Julian âJuliusâ Little as underboss, Hector Maio before "Code of Silence" and Zack Maio after "Code of Silence". Nick Mendoza. Khai Minh Dao and Carl Stoddard are caporegimes and Tyson Latchford, Tyler "Ty" Morgan, Sean "Mac" McAlister, Jessica "Jess" Miller as soldiers. Other members include Ravindra "Rav" Chaudhry as the gang's car expert Rachel Teller as the gang's customization expert, Marcus âBoomerâ Boone as the gang's weapon experts. The Blackwell Syndicate would be the gang that the player would join. In Act 1, they're an outside and fast tracked to soldier, but in Act 2 the player would be a capo until the end of the game. They are secretly backed by both The Mob and the CIA through Agent Dawes. Jonathan Cross and Mia Townsend are also on the gang's payroll until "Bon Appetit" where Marcus Blackwell executes him with a 870P Magnum to the head. Also Mia would also go with Jack Rourke as well
The police/military force
PCPD - the police force of Palm City/Miami if the player does hostile acts (killing civilians, firing unsuppressed weapons in public, etc) will attract police attention and each kill from them awards 50 XP for regular members and 100 XP for armored members, However the player can bribe the PCPD to look the other way or will even help the player fight the other gangs but would be the target of higher level police forces. (Sort of like it was in The Godfather game) The player can also buy favors from them as well. Also theyâll deploy stronger units at higher heat level alongside the FBI. The cars PCPD drives are the Ford Crown Victoria, Dodge Challenger, Pontiac GTO, and the Chevy Grand Sport
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) - The state police force and Only appears in wanted levels 3 and above, Each kill from them awards 75 XP for regular state troopers and 150 XP for tactical state troopers. Regular state troopers drives Ford Mustang GTs tactical state troopers drives Nissan GT-R
FBI - Only appears in wanted level 5 the FBI will be called in if the player continues to retaliate against the PCPD. Each kill from them awards 125 XP for regular agents, 250 XP for FBI SWAT and 375 XP for FBI HRT, Like the PCPD the player can bribe the FBI to look the other way, or even help the player fight gangs, or the PCPD but at the second highest price. The FBI also has the second widest array of favors the player can buy. regular agents drives the Nissan 350Z or Porsche 911 GT3 RS, FBI SWAT drives the - Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster or Ford F-150 SVT Raptor L.E. and FBI HRT drives the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X or Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR
Military - Only goes after the player if they trespass in Fort Rockport or the Palmount Naval Shipyard. Each kill from them awards 200 XP for regs, 400 XP for experienced troops and 600 XP for elite troops. Like the PCPD, State Police and the FBI, the player can bribe the military to look the other way, or even help the player fight gangs, the PCPD, State Police or even the FBI but at the highest price and The military also has the widest array of favors the player can buy in large part due to Agent Dawesâ connections in Washington.
Multiplayer portion of the game would take place during the five cartels war where the Blackwell Syndicate, The Volk, Palm Kings, Dixie Paldines, Los Salmos 16, and The House (basically where Jack Rourke glosses over saying "It was non-stop chaos for weeks")
Also there would be a free ride mode where the player can explore the city at their leisure or pick a fight with either other cartels or the cops.

2023.06.03 04:27 Jaime_Horn_Official Why Do Some Leftists Defend Antitheism?
I am being completely genuine when I ask; antitheism is to me utterly antithetical to leftism. Consider the most prominent antitheists on the planet: Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, etc... All are ardent capitalists who have advocated lustfully for war in the Muslim World because they have all been quite open about the fact that they want to see as many Muslims slaughtered as possible, with Harris attempting to back-track in recent years, but Hitchens defending the Iraq War to his dying breathâhis death being one that I certainly did not mourn for the record. Yet, everytime I describe antitheism as an inherently evil, genocidal ideology, I always receive criticism from at least one leftist who derides me for engaging in "identity politics". I don't understand why it is so difficult for people to grasp that the demonization of religious people serves as a catalyst for violence.
Some of the most prominent leftists in the community from Noam Chomsky, to Hasan Piker, to the late, great Michael Brooks have all expressed a similar sentiment to me on the subject and I thus feel vindicated in my position. Going back further, Marx and Lenin were unapologetic in their support for religious liberty despite their own disbelief in a higher power. Even Kyle Kulinski has distanced himself from the so-called "New Atheist" movement in recent years. I actually unsubscribed from the Humanist Report simply because he described himself as an antitheist on his podcast and it is the one ideology I refuse to tolerate.
To be clear, I have no problem whatsoever with atheists. In fact, many of my personal friends and comrades alike are irreligious but we maintain our relationships because they also express opposition to the persecution of people of faith. I also concur that organized religious institutions are by no means above criticism or even disdain. Antitheism or antagonism towards religious people on the other hand is not only a vile worldview, but one that is without merit, considering that some of the greatest socialist heroes have followed a particular faith, including Malcolm X, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Chris Hedges. It is my sincere hope that the ostracization of antithiests becomes a top priority for the left as these people are not allies and should be as shunned from the movement as national socialists (nazbols).
TL;DR: Atheists are acceptable, antithiests at bare minimum serve as useful idiots for war and the interests of industry. I would highly recommend reading "When Atheism Becomes Religion" by Rev. Hedges for those who would like to learn more on the topic.

2023.06.03 00:32 zeekoes [WP] Humanity... Should have lost. The hordes were too great- our numbers to small. However, we broke time itself to unite a team. A team of the most skilled, unhinged, most dangerous individuals... We called them: Seraphs.
The following document outlines our proposal for the composition of Project: SERAPH. These individuals have been selected for a variety of characteristics and laurels that were deemed integral to the success of the project and ensure the continued existence of our species.
Subject one â Charlemagne â Codename: THE UNIFIER
This subject has been selected for his unique ability to unite people of different cultural backgrounds. He also possesses a keen sense for strategy and facilitates the development of knowledge and processing of information. He can both present himself as a diplomat or a tyrant based on what the presented situation warrants. A man of courage and conviction, he will be one of the pillars of the Seraphs.
Subject two â William the Conqueror â Codename: THE STRATEGIST
This subject has been selected for his skill in strategy and timing as well as bring an unrelenting ambition to the table. Our expectations are that â besides his battlefield manipulation â his strong personality will quell any internal friction. He is able to adapt to new technology when presented, which will be our key to victory over our enemy.
Subject three â Genghis Khan â Codename: THE SUBJUGATOR
A brutal warlord that will enable the Seraphs to not only possess the means necessary to turn the tide in the war on paper, but execute it in battle. His brutality can be used to intimidate opposing forces. However, he also possesses the ability to implement a top down structure within the team, to facilitate all areas to work together and at full capacity.
Subject four â Socrates â Codename: THE PHILOSOPHER
A man of philosophy and debate. While not useful in actual warfare, he will provide the Seraphs with insight and the ability to test theories, before resources are spend on executing them. Not scared to voice his opinion, nor to test those of others, his ability to scout weaknesses in information structures and battlefield analysis can prove integral to our success.
Subject five â Joan of Arc â Codename: HOLY SWORD
With an innate ability to inspire and drive forward our forces she is indispensable. She will fuel our efforts through rhetoric and zeal, making sure our enemies will never underestimate us. Her word can bind even the most desperate of men to courage and push us over the edge in battles we might on paper have already lost.
Subject six â Ada Lovelace â Codename: THE COMPUTER
With Adaâs understanding of mathematics and computing, we expect her to be the driving force behind our rapid advancements in technology. Be it surveillance, weaponry or communications, Miss Lovelace will be the STEM of our blooming resistance. She will be pivotal in intercepting and decoding enemy communications, as well as encrypting our own.
Subject seven â Amelia Earhart â Codename: AERONAUT
Amelia Earhart will take command over our airborne fleet. Her understanding of current, flight patterns, weather conditions and navigation will ensure that our fleets will always hit true to their target. She will be able to manage our ships to utmost efficiency and plot the best course of attack at the right time. She is also a master in concealment and cover tactics and can proof useful in making key members of out Seraph team disappear from the surveillance of our enemies.
Subject eight â Malcolm X â Codename: THE MINISTER
This position was one of internal strife. There is a lot to be said for filling this position with the individual known as Martin Luther King. However, after much debate, the choice has landed on Malcolm, for his ability to not only assertively focus on the goal and galvanize the people around him to do the same. Unlike Mr. King, he also is more familiar with battle tactics and the dirty side of achieving liberty. His expert knowledge of towing the line between diplomacy and violence, make our Seraphs more flexible and able to adjust quickly when presented with adversity.
Subject nine â Jesus Christ â Codename: MESSIAH
Known as the son of God, this man is there to provide our team with a moral compass and the believe in a goal beyond. Providing the injured with immediate care and providing the doubtful with guidance, he cannot be underestimated as a member of our team. While his personal philosophy of anti-violence might seem to contradict with the core task of the unit, he has been known to understand the need of measures beyond diplomacy if the goal is righteous.
Subject ten â Vlad III Dracula â Codename: VAMPIRE
This asset should be handled with care and be observed at all times. His preference for obscene violence to demoralize the enemy is a useful tactic, but also a double edged sword. His defiant nature may present a danger to the unity of the Seraphs, if left unchecked. We believe that his tactical prowess and unrelenting blood lust provides an edge to our forces that we need to defeat the enemy. Sometimes you have to get your hands dirty to win. Yet, we would do well not to lose ourselves in the process. Subject is also rumored to be immortal, but there is no scientific data to back this up.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If the council would recognize and approve the SERAPH task force, we would be able to start the immediate process of retrieving these individuals from their native locations on the timeline. Our proprietary time extraction technology is efficient and trustworthy and will assemble this team without destroying the continuity of our history.

2023.06.02 23:14 Piano_Away 35 [M4R] Texas - Has to be a dorky/goofy/nerdy woman here
I apologize as it's a bit of a novel and doesn't quite make grammatical sense in some spots. I can read goodly now and again lol. The reason it says M4R is because I mainly like women and trans women but I also like a very very very specific type of guy and certain trans men as I'm partially bi. Chances are you aren't that type but feel free to ask if you are. (Didnât want to offend anyone so Iâd rather say in private) Just throwing that out there as it's a deal breaker for most women. Which why would it be? The number one reason I get is I'm going to cheat on them with a guy. As if being bi has any bearing on cheating and not the persons character.
I'm a 35 year old guy living in the middle-ish of Texas looking for a female partner. Partner as in LTR. That's Long Term Relationship meaning boyfriend and girlfriend and holding hands type of stuff. You know, adult things? I had someone comment I was too vague so this is me being specific. I'm gonna be honest and kinda sad so bare with me.
So I spent New Years alone (I realize it's June lol but I have yet to meet someone and I think the story is still somewhat relevant). Rang in the New Year in bed staring at the ceiling listening to fireworks go off into the night. The next day I cried randomly while browsing for a movie to watch on TV. At first I didn't know why as I'm not much of a crier but I realized for the first time that I genuinely felt alone. I have no partner, no family that I speak to, no friends just acquaintances, really no one there for me. That's my own doing which took years to accomplish through me being closed off and just shutting people out, so I figure it might take just as long to fix. I'm not complaining as I got myself into this predicament. It's gonna sound dumb but I wanted a New Years kiss. I'd never had one and it seemed like a fun dumb silly thing to do. Eh maybe one day. Ok well back to my spiel. (I'm not depressed or anything or wanting attention) Some of my hobbies and interests are movies, reading, cooking, kayaking, records, video games, board games, snorkeling, bowling, swimming, escape rooms, puzzles and antiquing. I would describe myself as more goofy and dorky than nerdy. I like to go out and do fun things but also stay in and cuddle and relax. I guess it depends on my mood and the weather. I prefer the cold and would love to live in a state with actual seasons and snow. I'm 5'10, stocky AKA fat and open for adventure and new experiences.
Here are some random facts about me:
Some of my favorite bands are: The Black Keys, Kings of Leon, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival and The White Stripes.
Christmas is my favorite holiday, mainly because of the cold and festive activities.
I come from a medium-ish family.
I'm exceptionally patient but every person has a breaking point lol
I like traveling a lot. It's a basic thing that lots of people like. But I've found lots of people hate to leave their house, town or state so if that's you we probably might not be a good match. I also enjoy the mountains. But I don't like roughing it (give me that sweet AC in the summer). Hiking is so hard on my knees and I haven't done it in a while that if I were to I think about doing it I'd about die or twist a kankle.
I don't eat seafood, mushrooms, artichokes or pineapple on pizza (Who cares about this? Doesn't mean I won't go to a restaurant with you that has these things)
Never went to college as I'm horrible in a classroom setting and at taking tests.
Have probably the most boring job imaginable (Ask me about it)
Overweight but trying to work on it and make better choices (Get healthier and lose weight together maybe?)
Non religious but no issue with what you believe. (If anything)
Looking into sterilization. If you are already maybe you can give me some info or tips?
My own red flags đ©
I work too much and oftentimes can't talk.
I send selfies often. I'm a visual person and like receiving photos. Apparently it's a generational thing. Hopefully you think pictures are neat as well? Is it really that weird to want to see you and your life and show you mine?
I sometimes speedily become attached to people, not in a weird way, but if I like you and we have some kind of connection, I will enjoy talking to you and want to do it often.
I'm a very organized person and will plan out pretty much anything from a vacation to a road trip to a birthday. This makes being with a go with the flow type of person hard at times I've learned but still very much doable.
Due to childhood trauma I'm secretive which can be annoying.
MY own "HELL YES" đ
I know how to cook.
I will always drive if you want. (Within reason)
Great at escape rooms and jigsaw puzzles.
Can read a map.
Decent at reading backwards upside down writing.
What I'm looking for:
Is my age or older. But I'm willing to go quite a bit lower if you are neat and we have stuff in common. But super young isn't my goal here.
Mature, considerate, responsible and funny (Dorky wouldn't hurt)
Someone who never cheats, honesty and trust are important to me.
Someone who is open-minded, willing to try new things, be adventurous, funny and nerdy.
Someone who believes in sharing household chores equally because we are both adults.
Be open and frank about issues you or I are having. Not pushy or jealous. Won't yell or argue about stupid things, I've had enough of that.
Willing to push me to become a better version of myself (Can you turn me into Batman?)
If this sounds like you then feel free to reach out and say hi or challenge me to a game of Scrabble/Pictionary/hand to hand combat maybe? Maybe Wordle or some online vidya game?
P.S. I realize my post isn't for everyone but if your seeing red flags from my post then I'd say trust your gut and please don't message me as we probably aren't compatible. I honestly don't mean that in a mean or hurtful way. I've just been messaged quite often with women saying they pushed aside red flags to get to know me. Please don't, it never ends well and you end up wasting both of our time. Wouldn't you rather spend it finding your person with no flags?

2023.06.02 23:03 Piano_Away 35 [M4R] #Texas - Want to spend the summer together in a LTR?
