2023.06.03 06:19 therealjayz32 Which job offer should I take?
I was recently laid off and now have two job offers that need a decision by early next week. I keep going back and forth and can't decide what job offer makes more sense to take! Any advice would be much appreciated.
Company A:
- Startup in the seed stage
- Roughly would make 40k more than what I was making at my previous company
- I would be building an entire function myself from the ground up (which is scary but also a great opportunity if I can pull it off. I haven't done this before)
- No one works there who knows my function so I would be on my own without any help. I would be reporting to the CEO who knows nothing about my function. He seems nice but demanding
- CEO told me a previous employee was fired after 6 weeks for not being able to execute
- No real job description or measures of success since no one knows my function well enough. I would be making my own goal posts and timelines
- 4 weeks of PTO
- Dental, vision and medical premiums are 100% covered by the company
- 4% 401k matching
- People / co-workers seem nice but not exactly people I would be friends with / buddies with which is totally fine
Company B:
- Startup that just got series B funding
- Roughly would make 12k more than what I was making at my previous company
- The foundation for my function is already mostly stood up, so I would be maintaining and growing the function
- The hiring manager seems really chill and knows my role well
- Detailed job description and idea of what day to day would be like, along with goals
- $400 additional spend every month to go towards whatever I want
- unlimited PTO
- Dental, vision, and medical premiums are 100% covered by the company
- Unsure about 401k matching still
- People / co-workers are nice and seem like we would be friends and get along really well socially

2023.06.03 06:10 Lonely_Algae Very confused. Need help on a high school project.
Basically i need to make a calendar and take user input for how many days and what day to start on. as of right now i am not worried about what day to start on but my spaces and days are not aligned properly when i run my program. the number should end with no spaces between it and the column asterisk. when you run it it should make more sense. 2023.06.03 06:08 silvercrossedheart [TOMT] [GAME] [UNKNOWN] A music exercise game with a female voiceover.
I hope this is the right subreddit, I went through all the different similar subreddits, I think this is my best bet.Okay, so I found
this charming little video a few months ago of an office worker dancing wildl,y to a track, then getting back to his work normally. It’s named super business dancing night by rob gilliam and in the description it says the song is called “Lady (#Fitness VIP) - DJ Debussey Turnpike VS Ghibli”. It’s a mash up remix thing of Lady Hear me Tonight. At around 1:59 , a voiceover of a girl saying “Faster, let the music move you” and other various heavily edited phrases. All I could find on it was someone saying the voice clips were from a fitness game. Which obviously doesn’t help. All I know about it is that it’s a fitness game, came out before February 2021 (that doesn’t really help), which has music or a music mode, and the speed changes. (The voiceover girl says “Spped up!” at some point.)
Edit: People are definitely looking for it.
This is the most info I could get.

2023.06.03 05:40 4830583 Advice Needed: Mistake at work, how to navigate conversation with boss
I work for a relatively small company that runs in-person gaming events for kids. I am technically the most junior in the company, title wise, but am often given a lot of responsibility and have earned a lot of trust over the last few years. Tonight I made a relatively big mistake that severely inconvenienced a coworker that is already going through a tough time.
Looking for advice on how to handle the conversation with my boss.
Some Background: I book and oversee a high volume of ongoing drop-in gaming events. A month ago a parent reached out to block off spots in a one off public event we were already running as a birthday present for her child and their 16 friends. They would attend the same event as the public kids but the big difference was that these Birthday kids would be staying for an extra 30 minutes to eat cake so they had to sign up through a different webpage. We’ll call them the “Birthday Kids”.
I went through the usual process for an event like this:
Verbally confirm with our company’s Programming Coordinator Set-up the registration webpage where the birthday parent can pay Email the organizing parent CCing all internal staff who would be involved Created a calendar invite for all staff who would be involved (plus some higher ups)
The one thing I missed was that I forgot to verbally remind the affected staff and my Programming Coordinator the week of about the Birthday Kids that had blocked off spots on the public event and registered through a different webpage.
Here’s where things went wrong:
Unfortunately, this event happened to be taking place on a day when I was not scheduled to be in the facility so I wasn't there to catch what happened next.
The day of the event our Programming Coordinator saw that there were only 2 kids registered for the public event. (We usually need a minimum of 5 kids to make running one of these events worthwhile.) Since she forgot about the Birthday Kids, she decided to cancel the public event and send most of the staff home early.
Well at 5:30 PM (as my coworker who is going through a rough time and had been at the facility since 9:30 AM was getting ready to leave), the birthday kids showed up ready to play and were scheduled to stay until 8 PM.
I was working my other job when this all went down otherwise I would have been the first to hop in my car and head over there to take over.
Some context: My coworkers are always on their computers but are notoriously bad at keeping up with emails and calendar reminders which is why I usually provide verbal reminders about these kinds of events in addition to the calendar invite and email. Their lack of attention to emails and our shared calendar has impacted us a lot with internal meetings and communications and overall really slows down how quickly the business has been able to scale. I’ve provided feedback about this to my coworkers on multiple occasions and nothing has changed. BUT this is the first time that it has impacted us in a public facing way.
My question(s): I will not be in until tomorrow evening (Saturday) and I know that we’re going to have a conversation about this and I’m wondering how I should approach it.
I 100% made a mistake in not providing a verbal reminder about the event. I absolutely take responsibility for that. My previous verbal reminders set a precedent so my co-workers felt like they didn’t have to remember that this was taking place as they assumed that I would remind them when the time came.
At the same time, I think this does illuminate a larger issue. The reason I send out the emails and put these events with detailed descriptions on the calendar is a checks and balances system of sorts so that if I did happen to forget to verbally remind them about the event, one of the six people involved would have seen the email or calendar event.
Would tomorrow’s conversation, after I apologize and take ownership of the issue, be a good time to ask them to be more diligent about keeping an eye on the calendar and emails? Or should I just stick to an apology and touch on the calendar and emails situation another time?
I don't want the conversation to come off as, "I'm sorry BUT..."
