2023.06.07 00:25 PokingDogSnouts 32 [M4F] New Jersey/New York — Where have all the flowers gone?

I'd like to find somebody thoughtful, someone who isn't superficial. Somebody who appreciates the rich vastness of our shared multicultural past, and freely follows her curiosity in exploring it. Somebody who is trying her best to adhere to the guidance of her inner moral compass, and isn't so easily fooled by the distractions and illusions of the world.
One such illusion, that must immediately be mentioned (this is important, because it's led to a break for me, in the past): religion. Religion is man-made, and not of any higher authority. The Bible and the Quran all permit slavery—in addition to countless other horrid and divisive ideas—while claiming to be eternal wisdom, and that is indefensible. I still like to believe in the idea of some permeating higher morality, that imbues us with our general sense for justice, fairness, and empathy...but, I know that without outright proof, even my holding of such a notion can be deemed a flight of fancy, a residual remnant of a system so entrenched. However, it seems to me that life is often more than just what's on the surface. Um, but now, then—back to the person I wish to know...
I'd also love it if she were artistic. Singing, sketching, painting, writing, composing, creating. Someone who is trying to nurture their talents and passions. I know it can be difficult...
As for me, well... I adore music. Mostly voices from the past (the 1960s would have to be my favorite), because I find them to be humbler and more from the heart, at least in popular music. I’ll just give an example of something I’ve looked into, and this is nowhere near representative of my wider taste, but if you go back to early 1920s country music... (Here's an aside: a lot of what people think of as "country" today is a long cry from what the genre is actually like, historically. If you are into folk music—Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan—it is indelibly linked to "country", and if you'd like a popular example of a song that originated within the genre, look no further than the universally recognized "You Are My Sunshine", from 1939!)
Anyway. If you go back to that early period, where undiscovered niches of music were still sought out and first put to tape... a lot of those artists had no idea about anything to do with recording—no ego, no attempt to sound "cool". What came through instead was a bare expression of the life that had been lived—the inner beauty of their own personhood, and I love hearing that. It's so honest. A vulnerable and piercing expression.
So if you're into history or the beautiful music of decades (and centuries) past, if you have any aspirations for creating as a method of changing the world for the better, if you'd like to play games and watch movies together, if you'd like an accountability partner—or all of the above...please message me. I don't mind the chat function, either—in fact, it's probably easier. Also, to get this out of the way: this is what I look like.
I love beautiful things. Nature, music that tugs at your heartstrings or is so honest you're enraptured, experiences that heal. More specifically, here are some of my current interests:
To close... I suppose I should say I've been afflicted with long-COVID for over two years. It'd be very nice to keep each other company, especially if we share any of the interests up above—we could watch favorite films, have shared listening sessions on Spotify, and it'd be a godsend to find somebody up to play on PS4 and Switch! Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3 on the secret hard modes, maybe? Or sculpting our own world from scratch in Minecraft? Or maybe we could act out Ocarina of Time's storyline using all the options available on Smash Ultimate!
I'd really like to know an intelligent person with a unique identity...who puts forth effort—though at the same time, no pressure on reaching out. If you are this type of person, but can currently only muster up a few words because, hey! Life is tough, and grueling, and we don't always have a ready-made letter in us to flip out of our pockets—don't be scared away by my tower of words. I absolutely know, firsthand, what it's like to want to communicate, yet not currently have the energy or the mindpower for it. Life can really sink you... I promise I will not judge. Please send me a chat message, if you're at all interested in chatting.

  1. All columns are Away / Home. Records are typically current as-of the time of posting, and do not always contain the matchup results from the day of posting.
  2. A bolded matchup means that there is a "Probability of Precipitation" greater than 50% in a non-domed stadium at the time of this post.
  3. An italicized matchup means that it is Game 2 of a doubleheader, which for Pick'Em purposes will not be applicable (only Game 1 is counted, but Game 2 is still included above so that you can be aware that pitching management may be different than a non-doubleheader game day).
  4. Probable pitchers and stats sourced from mlb.com (via the MLB-StatsAPI); weather data soured from the OpenWeather One Call API.
  5. Estimated chance of winning percentages sourced from FiveThirtyEight’s 2023 MLB Game Predictions, an ELO-based, easy to understand ratings system.
Details such as probable pitchers, winning odds, and match certainty are subject to change. Note that a pick for a team in a cancelled game (weather or otherwise) is automatically counted as a correct guess.

2023.06.06 23:40 Clean-Effort7972 The Afton Family (as we know it)

Okay. I have no idea how much of this is true, this is literally just a thought that came to me after seeing and analysing the Ruin Trailer. Feel free to point stuff out about it, I’d love to listen!
In Security Breach, we have the table with the Staff Bots sat around it, which everyone has assumed to be symbolic of the Aftons. It seems to suggest the Afton Family being rebuilt. But what if I were to tell you, that Ruin is doing just that? I can’t say I like what I’m about to type, but here we go.
GGY has confirmed (pretty much) that Gregory is Patient 46. If we are to believe that Gregory is a robotic version of the Crying Child, then that could clear up a few thing about the trailer. Like how is Gregory still alive ‘down here’? The Pizzaplex is clearly aged by quite a while. There’s graffiti and other signs of vandalism around the building, and various newspapers littering the place. Surely a living child couldn’t survive this long. We also have the new Fazbear Frights stories ‘The Mimic’ and ‘The Storyteller’ which strongly suggest Gregory being an AI or robot of some kind. The code written on the wall in Mike’s secret room in the Pizzaplex is an almost direct correlation to the language that Edwin and David speak to the Mimic 1 programme with.
William Afton was in Security Breach as ‘Burntrap.’ He was abducted by ‘The Blob’ at the end of the ‘Afton Ending’ to the game. So seemingly, that’s him out of the picture. But then we have this new figure. This new glitching rabbit has been widely assumed to be Glitchtrap. There’s not really a lot you can definitely say about this figure that confirms this, except it’s glitching effect. The only two entities or characters that make this sort of effect are Glitchtrap, and Malhare (PQ games, correct this if incorrect). Seeing as Malhare is only ever seen in an arcade game, it wouldn’t make sense for it to then have a physical form like the one seen in the trailer. Glitchtrap, however, gains a physical form as you collect tapes in Help Wanted. So, this would make the most logical sense. Glitchtrap is a digitally uploaded version of Williams conscience scanned into help wanted using some old circuit boards. So, if this rabbit is Glitchtrap, then William is here in some way.
Glamrock Freddy is widely theorised to be Michael Afton. He’s unaffected by being controlled, because Glamrock Freddy is already a vessel for Michael Aftons soul. Mike’s room is also featured in Security Breach. This room so happens to be the place where Patient 46’s (Gregory’s) therapy CDs are played, and where the code mentioned above is found, strengthening the bond between Freddy and Gregory, whom would be Michael and the Crying Child.
Matpat said in his timeline videos that Mrs Afton was running the Fazbear Company after the FNaF 6 fire. You’ll have to forgive me, as it’s late and I can’t remember exactly what he said to support this, but I’m sure most of you have watched that if you’re listening to my rant.
So, where does Elizabeth fit into all of this? Well, my suggestion is Cassie. As crazy as that may sound, just hang on with me. Matpat in another video covering Vanessa and Vanny made the claim that there could be multiple Elizabeth bots, similar to the novels’ Charlie bots, with Vanessa and Vanny both being one of these bots. He also mentioned that there’s no telling just how many of these bots there are in existence. If Cassie was an Elizabeth bot, then this would not only complete our Afton Family rebuild, but also explain a few other things. For example, it would explain why Cassie was drawn to the Pizzaplex. Gregory would be her brother, and he needs her help. Gregory asking Cassie not to give up on him would then be a brother seeking his sister’s help. Another reason Elizabeth would be there was because she knows that that is where William is likely to be. Both William and Elizabeth burned in the FNaF 6 fire. A fire that just so happened to take place in the Pizzeria that the Pizzaplex is built over. So, being the loyal, devoted daughter she is, came searching for her father, and knew exactly where to look.
This would complete our Afton Family rebuild. With Gregory as the Crying Child, Cassie as Elizabeth, Glamrock Freddy as Michael, The Glitching rabbit figure as William, and Mrs Afton the owner of the Fazbear Company, everyone is there. Again, feel free to pick at this, it’s late and idk what I’m doing at this point. Thanks for sticking around if you did!

2023.06.06 23:27 EntrancedForever Entity's Impact

So, the Entity pulls Survivors and Killers alike into its realm from across the Omniverse, right? Okay, but only some of these people like Bill, Amanda, or the Twins are dead when they arrive. With the amount of mysterious disappearances going on, that raises questions of what happens after those people vanish.

Your thoughts?

2023.06.06 22:25 wosxaa Theory on RUIN and Matpat

Gregory is the Crying Child. Mrs Afton runs the place. William is Burntrap or potentially this fuckin rabbit thing. Michael is potentially Glamrock Freddy. Elizabeth? What if Cassie is Elizabeth? The 'Dont give up on me yet' line would still make sense. Its a brother looking to his sister for help

2023.06.06 21:52 Simply-Rabbit That time I had taken a trip to the underworld with a control freak DM

So, this is the story of how this group and I started a coup on our DM and regained our freedom. TW: Mentions of Racism
Important people! Pluto: The DM, ruler of our personal hell Jericho: My friend and the local Paladin Bird: The Bladesinger Wizard with wings Soap: The Tricky Drow Cleric/Ranger Hornet: Barbarian Satyr and the newest addition Boy: The Eldritch knight… yeah that’s it Toad: Local Plant boy with a pet dragon And I am… Well, me. (Names changed for obvious reasons) So this story starts at the beginning. I found a listing in the CritCrab server for a new game that sounded interesting. A group that is in a fantasy school for adventurers. Sounds interesting enough. I sent the DM (Pluto) a character idea for a Water Genasi swarm keeper whose swarm is a school of tropical fish. He said that I can’t use fish because it's not one of the official options for a swarmkeeper… Okay? Change it to birds and then he asks if I wanted to be siblings with someone else who wanted to be a Genasi ranger. I hesitantly agree and then I meet Jericho. I began becoming closer with Jericho and tried getting closer with Pluto. I brought up taking a level into a homebrew monster tamer class and he approved it but every time I did something that irritated him he half jokingly threatened to kill my character’s wolf to the point where it made me not want to play the class knowing that if I didn’t do what he wanted he would take it out on my character. Eventually that game didn't go anywhere so he started up a new game. Pluto decided he would run the same game as before with a new group and we started at level 3! Jericho and I were the only ones who came back for the reboot. During the down time between campaigns I began being closer friends with Jericho and began playing some of the same games as him. Pluto, not liking these games, told us that people who played those games were “bad people and people who say otherwise are objectively wrong.” Anyways, character creation. Jericho and I wanted a connected backstory but didn't want to be siblings again since we just did that. He decided he would play a paladin and so I thought “if he is the knight, i could be the dragon” and brought up the tamer class to Pluto again, he accepted it but didn’t stop talking about how Drakewarden Ranger is just better. Even after I told him I didn’t like it as much. Now, I wouldn't have this issue if he hadn’t already said the tamer class was fine. He already accepted the homebrew but was still pushing me toward something I said I didn't want. On top of all this, he told Jericho that since he was a Knight he would also have the Noble background and since he was a Noble I should also be a Noble and his sister! We sorta just went along with it since it sorta just worked. I ended up swapping from a Tamer (because he clearly didn't want me playing it) to a Wizard with a high charisma in hopes of going into bard or warlock. We were all excited to be some noble kids in the school just hanging out and stuff only to learn that by Noble, he meant the most Noble. Jericho was the Crown Prince and I the Princess of THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. This was not at all what we signed up for but we thought, Hey, this will at least make things interesting? The other players were Boy, who made an eldritch knight who sorta just hit things? He didn't role play too much and mostly just split off to talk to random teachers and stuff instead of participating in what there was of a plot. The other was a druid for a couple of sessions but left due to frustrations with Pluto. So it starts with us going to a school and doing a test to see what class we are in, sorta Yugioh GX style if you are familiar with that. We all got sent to Obelisk Blue and were assigned to the team. Woo! We set off for our first mission, go find “something of interest.” We weren’t told what exactly to look for or anything just to find it. Okay? We search and find a cave with spooky noises and glowing. My player senses are tingling! We go inside and find a woman who is all like “Make a deal with me, i will give you some shiny stuff and you are not allowed to talk about me ever to anyone outside of here. If anyone asks you where you found this stuff say it's from the river” Jericho: Can we say walk away? Pluto: Nope, you are stuck here. Druid: Well, can we fight her? Pluto: You can but she can tpk you Me: So we just take the items then i guess
We go on to the next bit and we return our interesting items and the druid tries to sorta not say explicitly what we found but every time we try we get told we can't get around the binding contract. Cool, so we can’t talk about what happened or try to get any information. We take some classes, have some fun conversations amongst the party, teach the druid what a snake is, all fun. We then go to find our next quest. Hunt some mini cockatrices. Okay, interesting, let's do that. We do it without incident. We come back and roleplay some more before going onto the next quest. A strange feline creature is doing some petrification in a nearby town, go solve it. Me: More petrification monsters? I wonder who is letting em all out Pluto: Oh, no. i just chose them because petrification is easy to run Yeah, not plot reasoning just easy to run… okay We continue onward and find ourselves in an area and we decide to go to the library. Turns out there is a fire downstairs in the library that leads to a secret laboratory with a bunch of notes and stuff and something that mentions the monster we were sent to find. I had never heard of the monster so I looked up what it looked like (mind you not trying to meta-game was just curious because i had never heard of it. It is like a lion medusa, I forgot what it was called. Anyways, Pluto got upset with me for looking it up and yeah, maybe I shouldn't have. So Druid was having issues with Pluto during all of this and ended up leaving the campaign. In the meantime Pluto decided to invite someone from a group he was kicked from for being rude to the other players. Turns out in that game his character had a baby dragon that he was taking care of because of a homebrew race he was playing. This is when Bird joined. Turns out there was a secret fight club in the town and Bird is doing great. Bird is a homebrew race that is like an elf with wings. Bird was the most forward with their complaints. Anytime Pluto did something frustrating they would bring it up. He was not afraid to say blatantly that something Pluto was doing was annoying. This led to several arguments and I won’t lie, it was quite annoying. Their character was similar and would call my character out for what she was doing which was really fun to roleplay out. We ended up going and fighting the boss and instead of attacking the tank it felt like he targeted my wizard. Weird but okay, i was pretty pushed up and i almost went down because funny d6 hit dice. Also, I was hiding in a tree. We also saw the petrified body of the character who left. We went back to the school and role played a bit between missions.
We were then given an option between going to the capital for purposes of going and meeting the king and queen or going on a quest to find some flowers. We think about it and going to the capital seemed like the best way to push the story forward and then Pluto tells us that going to the plot is actually at the flowers which made no sense at all and still doesn’t. Especially since the only plot stuff was uh not region specific Next mission was trying to find a medicine for petrification. We go and talk to a king but a different type of king from our character’s father? Pluto swears up and down there is a good reason for this but it's confusing. We went to talk to him. King: So, you are looking for this really rare plant? Well, I will tell you where to find it so long as you make a deal with me Everyone: really? Another deal? Bird: “Yeah, my character is super paranoid and traumatized and wouldn't make deals with random people Pluto: Can you quit derailing things? Bird continued to try to get around the contract but no matter what he tried, Pluto didn’t allow anything. During all of this Pluto invited two new people to join us. Toad and Soap. They hadn't joined the game yet because he kept refusing to introduce them for like 3 sessions in a row. So they were both just quietly waiting in the vc for hours on end, much to the annoyance of Soap in particular. Eventually we got to the point where we were looking for the plants and Jericho had to go to work so we hand waved it as he went to go look somewhere else for the plants. We find the plants and they seem eerily out in the open. We get to problem solving. We decided the best course of action is if there are traps, send the flying person to go get them so we don't trigger them. Bird goes and flies towards them and then the tree shoots some roots or something at them? Idk, it makes no sense. And then they tried to Misty Step away. Anyways we roll initiative and fight a bunch of plants and then Toad and Soap see us fighting the plants and decide to help us. We beat the fight and then head back to the castle. We get told that Pluto would have a side session with Jericho. Jericho then tells me later that week that his character is dead or close to death. Turns out when he went off alone he fell into a random hole and had to go through a bunch of fights. And also he found someone who recognised him as the crown prince because of his fancy armor that he has stated many times wasnt fancy because he was very humble. He ended up getting so close to death that he had to make ANOTHER DEAL in order to get out alive. When the next session started we were told we went back without him and waited several days for him to come back and he just didn't. Excuse me? My character just sat around when her brother was missing for more than 12 hours??? Anyways we tried several things to find him and then i decided to make ANOTHER DEAL in order to ensure his safety. (I had a way to summon a fey-like entity). After all of this and more, Bird was causing a new argument or 2 every session and Soap was also upset by the same things and backed him up. The biggest argument was because we were defending Jericho from being killed off screen for committing the unforgivable sin of going to work. Eventually Pluto decided he would kick Bird. He also decided to gaslight Soap into apologizing for agreeing with Bird and BEGGING FOR HIS FORGIVENESS. Now mind you, after all of this Bird’s character had already been a massive part of the character development of both Soap’s character and my own so seeing them leave was rough narratively. Then it was implied they were killed, as was their pet pig, Chris P Bacon (Rest in Peace, sweet prince) Anyways, we go back home, role play, and then we go into a multi session dungeon crawl. Half way through the dungeon crawl he decided to add another player to the group and had Hornet send several different backstories and then admitted to not reading any of them. Now something I hadn’t mentioned was that he would often be late or cancel sessions day-of because he wanted to go to a party. It got to the point where he was the least consistent player. During the Dungeon crawl is when it became super problematic. People had had some schedule shifts and we asked to have the sessions an hour earlier and he agreed. Except, we didn't expect that that meant he would then opt to ask if we could postpone the sessions by 30 minutes or sometimes an hour and 30 minutes. When I complained about him being late all the time he said it was “Latino culture” to always show up late. Yeah, I was also confused. Anyways, this meant that 2 players were rarely able to show up and when they could they had to leave and hour in. We learned a bit more lore and then left the dungeon after like 5 sessions. We then went to a different town that had a rival school in it. Neat. We looked around, read some books, role played a bit, y’know, the usual. Then we decided to head home to the school to be there for a tournament! And now Hornet joined! After like 2-3 months of being invited to the server. Eventually, we all talked out of character about our experiences and decided that Toad would be the new DM and run a similar game and we would keep our characters. Thank you, Jericho for finally taking the time to talk to everyone. This situation ended a month ago. I would like to just say that these people tend to not have any self awareness so they can even watch these videos and not see the parallels between these bad DMs and themselves. Be careful out there, friends.
Some other notes that i didn't know where to put Pluto made almost all of us change something about our characters. -He made me and Jericho siblings and tried to force me into Drakewarden ranger. -Soap was supposed to be a Ranger Rogue, but he said “rogues cause too much trouble” and that “we needed a healer.” We did not need a healer. I had bard levels and was the support of the group. Then when they chose to be a cleric and decided to go to a church he was super surprised that the cleric wanted to do cleric things. -Toad wanted to be a Firbolg but then the Pluto pushed them towards his new homebrew race that has a pet dragon that he swears wasn't based on the same race he played in the game Bird was in -Hornet was going to be a shifter Echo knight but was then told no for some reason? -Told Bird no goblins, and argued about other races and stuff. Also forced them to be the cousin of mine and Jericho’s characters He was an incredibly toxic friend. He eventually ended up playing the game “only bad people like” but it was okay because he “didn't take it seriously.” Anytime I took a kill he would yell at me for stealing it and then say he wasn't actually mad because he doesn't take the game seriously and then go back to yelling at me. He did this with knowledge that people yelling at me was a trigger for me. I ended up buying a skin for him in the game as a gift and then he kept trying me to get him another one. I offered to get him a cheaper one as it was on sale and then he kept saying “No i want this one” If you liked something it was immediately a bad thing to like because of reasons. Like it was made by a corrupt company or stuff like that. You just weren’t allowed to enjoy things around him. In the game, he kept giving Soap, the archer, knives for loot? It was weird. Just because Soap had their character buy a dagger so they would have some concealed melee just in case. He also made it so whenever Soap looked for information they found a book about potatoes which was funny the first time bc nat 1 but the second time just felt like haha reusing the same joke but for an 11. And most of the time Soap was the only one actively looking for information about the lore due to the god they followed not being a part of the main pantheon. He also liked giving us very little money and then showing off all the cool magic items we could buy if we had money. Or make us go to a special shop and then make us spend most of our money there and then say “should've saved your money” THERE WERE SO MANY NPCS. I couldn't keep up with them all. Also all of them were very holier than thou. Pretty annoying He also said because I was taller than Bird IRL I could beat him up in a fight which was weird especially with how insistent he was about it
Bird got yelled at for “power gaming” which is a fancy way to say thinking before acting If you disagreed with Pluto it was a direct attack. His opinions weren't opinions; they were facts. If you liked something he didn't, you were a bad person
He also told the Soap that because they were a Drow they would experience Racism and then proceeded to not give any because he expected my character to be racist for him. Also he didnt think Drow were elves. We believe that when he said there would be Racism it was towards Soap and not their character. He seemed to have something against everyone who was American in the group… which was everyone but Toad. But more often than not, Soap was the butt of the joke Toad also kicked him from his game before the events of this game which was based on an Anime he liked. He then got Bird to DM another game based on that anime and then didn't join it because it was Pathfinder and not 5e Ignored Soap’s backstory and just focused on the fact that they were poor because every other character was “too spoiled” even though he forced them to be that way. He called a young boy a Shota and didn’t fully comprehend the… implications which was funny and we had a laugh but he said then had to argue that it was perfectly innocent and has no implications Jericho had special rules as the crown prince he had to follow so when he was taking a more calm and stoic route he was punished for not taking a stand. To the point where when someone else was consoling someone Jericho was told that a group of people that saw him minding his own business hated him. It basically made him afraid to give his character a personality We had to take classes but we had to take 3 of the same class to get anything out of the classes There was a point where we found a fire Genasi that was very attractive and everyone was like trying to rizz her up but when Soap said they were just kinda staring at her they were called a creep. Mind you, Soap’s character was a 13 year old boy who looked about as “creepy” as a soft cuddly bunny.

Tyler James Williams on toxic masculinity; supporting his gay brothers
Tyler James Williams is an actor from Everybody Hates Chris and Abbott Elementary. He recently spoke out against people trying to attribute his mannerisms to being gay, saying it reinforced negative stereotypes and forced men into a box.
His brother made a Twitter response, mentioning how Tyler was supportive of him and his other brother's coming out, and how Tyler deconstructed the way he viewed masculinity as a way to support them.
Really really sweet stuff. I really do love an ally like him.

2023.06.06 20:55 AussieHawker Cornel West is not progressive (or not anymore).

There has been a lot of discussion about Cornel West because of his announced campaign. With a wide variety of reactions. But one reaction I've noted is people who do know how stupid splitting the vote is, but say that he is championing progressive causes or that he is very progressive.
Now he acts Progressive. He says certain buzzwords. But is he? Or is he really just a crank who has gone right?
Splitting the Vote for Trump
This campaign is nothing new for Cornel West. From his own mouth
Brother Bernie and Brother Trump are authentic human beings in stark contrast to their donor-driven opponents.
In the 2016 campaign, he was praising Trump over Clinton. And then endorsed Jill Stein. You don't have to like Clinton, to know how high the stakes were. And of course, as we now all know the stakes were high. 3 Supreme Court Justices, hundreds of lower federal judges, endemic corruption, criminalisation of immigrants, rise in hate crimes, and Trump utterly botching the crisis that happened under his watch, Covid killing over a million Americans.
But lots of people made that mistake as well. However, he is doing it all over again, after all this shit happened.
And Now Trump is even worse. He is explicitly campaigning against democracy itself because of his grudge about losing, he has made a campaign promise to invade Mexico, Ukraine will almost certainly get cut off reviving the Russian invasion and he explicitly wants to purge the Federal government of all non-loyalists, including bureaucratic roles. Cornel West has no hope of winning, all he is doing is taking away Democratic votes.
DeSantis, Chris Rufo and Cornel West
However, Cornel West doesn't just have an unfortunate past of praising Donald Trump. He also has a current history of praising Ron DeSantis and working with evangelical right-wingers, and their education causes.
Recently he wrote an Op-ed
DeSantis’s Revolutionary Defense of the Classics
By Cornel West and Jeremy Wayne Tate
Gov. Ron DeSantis just gave a welcome boost to the classical-education movement. He signed legislation allowing high-school students to qualify for Bright Futures scholarships, a state fund for college education, by submitting scores from the Classic Learning Test instead of the SAT alone.
This move will likely be portrayed, wrongly, as partisan and conservative. But the greatest works of civilization have always been about spurring—not preventing—radical change. They teach us about the revolutionary ideas of the past and help us better understand the present. The richest ideas of what it means to be human are those that have stood the test of time.
Many of the seminal works of literature, history, philosophy, science and theology were revolutionary in their respective ages. Turn the pages of Galileo Galilei’s “Two New Sciences” and you’ll experience the alteration of humanity’s view of itself in relation to the heavens. By disproving the then-common belief that the planets revolved around the Earth rather than the sun, Galileo laid the foundation for modern science. Isaac Newton, swept aside what remained of the Old World’s scientific superstitions—only to find himself upstaged two centuries later by Albert Einstein’s “Relativity.”
Like revolutionary ideas today, the ideas of yesterday were provocative and, in many cases, much more consequential. Galileo was put on trial because he upset the status quo. In the 13th century, Bishop Stephen Tempier of Paris condemned key works of theologian Thomas Aquinas for being too radical. Soviet dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn and civil-rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. were imprisoned for their views. In colonial America, James Madison and his co-authors feared printing their names on the Federalist Papers, so they hid under aliases. Even the most mild-mannered of philosophers stirred trouble for thinking against the grain. Plato watched his great teacher Socrates put to death for his teachings.
Revolutionary figures of the past give us insight into the present and allow for reflection on the consequences of their choices. Julius Caesar, one of antiquity’s most recognizable leaders, teaches us the cost of revolution through his histories. By crossing into Rome with his armies, he ended the republic and created the Roman Empire, a crime for which he paid with his life. But in his firsthand descriptions of the often-brutal tactics he employed to achieve political transformation, he left behind deep insight. Caesar’s direct and simple prose conveys the reality of going to war—all without reference to contemporary conflicts.
That’s one of the virtues of the classics: They are a means of considering what is true without invoking the blind partisanship that encourages thoughtless action. There is nothing we need more today than the cultivation of reason and understanding.
That’s why Mr. DeSantis’s support of classic education has universal merit that transcends partisanship. Education based on values, logic and discipline isn’t Republican—it’s timeless.
Mr. West holds a chair at Union Theological Seminary and serves on the board of academic advisers of the Classic Learning Test. Mr. Tate is founder and CEO of the Classic Learning Test.
In this article, he praises DeSantis for introducing the Classic Learning Test (CLT) to Florida schools. He has a lot of fancy words about the various historical thinkers who went against the grain. Sounds nice. I wonder how Ron DeSantis is treating free inquiry in Florida?
But in reality, this is really just a handout to an incredible niche test used by a handful of Evangelical right-wing schools. The CLT dates all the way back to ... 2015. It's just a way for Republicans to spend education money fattening the pockets of the CLT advisors to provide these tests, and to push students away from real universities to ones that teach them nonsense. And the guys profiting from this, is Cornel West's co-author on this article who started the test and Cornel West himself.
But also, pushing the 'Western Classics' didn't happen in a vacuum. Ron DeSantis pushed the CLT, as part of his plot to get rid of African American Studies and other 'woke' courses that are part of the AP studies.
TALLAHASSEE — In February, when Gov. Ron DeSantis went after the College Board’s new Advanced Placement course on African American studies, he hinted that Florida might do without the organization’s courses and tests.
Two months later, Republican state lawmakers are preparing to head in that direction.
Using their budget proposal and a bill (HB 1537) that’s viewed as the Florida Department of Education’s legislation, the House and Senate are looking to pivot from the College Board’s Advanced Placement courses and SAT exam to other alternatives.
For the SAT, the state is considering a “classical and Christian” exam alternative called Classic Learning Test. It would be used as an optional graduation test requirement and to determine Bright Futures scholarship eligibility, as well as a college entrance exam at Florida’s public colleges and universities. Schools would have the option to administer the SAT, ACT or Classic Learning Test starting next school year.
For AP, the chambers have agreed to spend millions creating Florida-based alternative courses and tests, asking state universities and colleges to help establish the materials. A third-party organization would help create the exams.
Cornel West's own books would likely be in the firing line of Florida schools for writing about the Black experience in a way that wasn't completely stripped of all real history.
And who else is on the CLT Board?
Christopher Rufo, listed as Senior Fellow, The Manhattan Institute. Rufo was also appointed by DeSantis to destroy Florida's New College.. So he isn't just a think tanker, but directly on DeSantis's payroll.
Also included is Kevin Roberts, the President of the Heritage Foundation.
If you look at the photo the CLT board posted, its literally just a sea of White Republicans.
So Cornel West has no problem writing a public article praising Ron DeSantis for helping free inquiry, as he tries to get rid of any books about LGBT people or Black people and working alongside Chris Rufo, the guy who managed the Right Wings Critical Race Theory panic. Seems bad.
Ask yourself. If a Biden appointee to Education Secretary had this kind of background of supporting the privatisation of schools, and of hanging around figures like these, would you be cool with it? No of course not.
The People's People Grift
You might also note from his announcement that he isn't running for the Green Party, which already has ballot lines in many states. But for the People's Party.
Said People's Party is headed up by Nick Brana, and has been championed heavily by Jimmy Dore.
Both Nick Brana and Jimmy Dore have been credibly accused of sexual harassment and assault.
And this is what the People's Party online presence looks like
https://twitter.com/marionumber4/status/1665768271637782532
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fx32IR5WAAQTjzf?format=jpg&name=large
Very left-wing. Totally not a right-wing grift.
In terms of the other track record of the People's Party, they aggressively solicited donations and promised that they would run dozens of candidates in the 2022 midterm. They didn't run a single one. Wonder where all that money went?
So the bright spark from all of this is that likely the People's Party will grift all the donations sent in, and not use it to actually get ballot access outside of the handful of states they have access to.
His Platform
Cornel West's website right now, is pretty limited. But one issue caught my eye in particular
End the Wars Bring our troops home and invest those trillions of war dollars into American communities. Support veterans, stop all foreign military aid, close the bases, disband NATO, and ban nuclear weapons globally.
Stop all foreign military aid and disband NATO. You know, while Russia is aggressively invading Ukraine. Yet another Leftist that is pro Imperialist invasion by a Neo Tsar.
What wars? Bring the troops home from where exactly. Biden already left Afghanistan and Iraq a couple of years ago.
And I wonder what magical spell he has in mind, to get Russia, China, North Korea, India, Pakistan, and Israel to consider giving up their nuclear weapons.

2023.06.06 20:53 AussieHawker Cornel West is not progressive (or not anymore).

However, he is doing it all over again, after all this happened.

2023.06.06 20:43 Harvey_Hawk [M4M] The Ogre and the Butterfly Prince Pt. 1 [Romance] [Fantasy] [Series]

AN: Happy Pride Month! This month I am focusing on LGBTQIA+ scripts, naturally. This is a new series! Grahven is my new Fella that spins in my head like a microwave meal, and I love him. I don’t know what to call the prince yet, so if you have a suggestion feel free to leave it in the comments. This script is a bit heavier on direction and action than my others, which I feel is necessary, but let me know if it’s too much. Also, my next script probably won’t be the sequel to this one because I want to work on a nonbinary script next ^-^ I will update this soon, though! Also, I suggest opening the google doc for this one due to formatting weirdness :p
Google Doc
Usage:
- Okay for monetization
- Please credit me as Harvey Hawk :)
- Tweaks, improv, and pronoun changes are okay! Just please do not rewrite the script completely.
Synopsis: In a modern fantasy setting, the listener has trouble sleeping due to insomnia. Their roommate, a tsundere half-dragon just back from a grueling double shift, helps them finally fall asleep.
Key:
[SFX and Action]

Synopsis: The speaker is Grahven the Ogre. Grahven runs the Zinnia Inn, an inn catering mainly to migrating Butterfly Folk. When he receives word that the Monarch's son is due to visit to meet with suitors, he is nervous but determined to give the prince a luxurious stay.

GRAHVEN:
'Morning, ladies. How was your night? Room to your liking an' all that?
(.) Good to hear. Will you be taking your tea in the garden?
(.) Of course. And what are we in the mood for?
(.) Purple coneflower and lemongrass, and a poppyseed loaf as well. Honey with that? Yes ma'ams, I'll have that out in a jiff.
(.)
Hm? Oh, so you’ve heard. That’s right. The Monarchs of the Butterfly Folk are sending their second son on his migration journey. He’ll be stopping here to meet some suitors and take a rest.
(.)
Is that so? I heard the migration journey is a large step in a young adult’s life; it must be an especially celebrated event for a prince.
(.)
Parties for weeks! What a thing to imagine! I hope the Zinnia is up to his expectations…
(.)
Why thank you, ladies. The brothers and I do our best to bring our guests the best experience!
(.) Well met, Sir Kingpage. What can I do for you?
(.) Oh, you're here to see the prince? Well, his royal highness isn't here yet, but I'd be happy to bring you some refreshments while you wait. I just got a shipment of citrus from the Sungold Groves.
(.) Yessir! This way to the garden, then. [Trumpet fanfare] That's him! Whoa, look at those guards! And that carriage!
(.) Ah, if you'll excuse me, sir. Oi, Dawl! C'mere and show this gentleman to his seat, yeah? [Footsteps] Your royal highness! Welcome to the Zinn Innia - er, the Zinnia Inn. It sure is an honor to have you. May I help you out of your carr- [Guards rush to intercept] Ah! Those spears sure look sharp. I'll just, uh, back up a smidge.
(.) Right, right. Sorry 'bout that.
(.) Your royal highness, this humble orc begs your forgiveness. Allow me to bow in your presence. Urgh...
(.) (Grunts in pain) I'm alright, your highness. Just this ol' knee of mine actin' up. [Approaching footsteps] Huh? Please, no need to trouble yourself your... (In awe, softly) Highness... Gods, the way the sun hits you from this angle... [The prince helps Grahven up, maybe a grunt of effort from Grahven] T-thank you, your highness. Both for helping me up and, uh, calling of those guards.
(.) (Clears throat) Now then! May I offer the grand tour, or would you like to start with refreshments? Of course, your highness. You must be exhausted from your long journey. Allow me to escort you to the garden gazebo. Uh... will your guards be coming along?
(.) (Relieved) Right then. (To the guards) Don't worry, you lot. The prince will be safe with me. Dawl will tend to you until the prince is ready to meet his suitors.
(.) Dalin, my good dwarf, bring a platter out for the prince, yeah? And make sure you brew the tea before you chill it this time.
(.) Right this way, your highness.
[Footsteps]
(.) Dalin? Yeah, he's a good friend. He and his brother, Dawl, helped build this place. They also made the gazebo. I tell you; those dwarves know a thing or two about adding a homey touch. They even put in a bench swing and hanging planters.
[Footsteps stop] We met in their village. I was there to buy materials and Dawl and Dalin were the only ones who would sell to me. The rest of the village either ran and hid or tried to attack me since… you know. Ogres aren’t exactly welcome in most places, on account of the tyrant and all that.
He may be gone now, but people haven’t forgotten. Thankfully, I’ve made a good reputation for myself here with the Inn. Of course, that’s thanks to the brothers and my patrons. Without them, I’d… well, I’d really have nothing.
(.)
Yeah, I’m lucky to have ‘em.
[Footsteps]
Ah, here comes Dalin. Huh, he’s got one of your guards with him. Everything alright, gentleman?
(.)
Wait, really? Someone really tests your food for you? I thought that was a myth!
(.)
Huh. Well, I hope he enjoyed it. Hey, food-tester! We’ve got plenty, and none of it’s poison, so eat all you like!
[Dalin sets down the platter]
Thank you, Dalin. This looks delicious.
(.)
I hope it’s to your liking, your highness. Let’s see, we’ve got fresh Milkweed salad, wild berry tarts, and my own specialty summer blend of tea. Everything is picked fresh from the garden, save for the Honeybells. Those don’t grow so well here, so I buy those from the Sungold Grove.
(.)
Honeybells are your favorite? I knew I made a good call on those! Well, dig in, your highness!
(.)
Oh, I’ve been running this place for… hm, five odd years. It started out as just a garden stall. I’d sell fruit and flowers – mostly to the Butterfly Folk during migration. It was a safe place for them to camp, ‘specially with my protection. It was slow going at first, but once Dawl and Dalin came along people were keener to trust me. The garden got so popular with migrating Butterfly Folk we decided we ought to give them a proper place to stay, and the rest is history.
(.)
What did I do before this? Before this, I… Forgive me, your highness. I’d rather not talk about that, if that’s alright. ‘S a bit personal, is all.
(.)
No, no! No need to apologize. It’s alright. Let’s change the subject. Are you enjoying your journey so far? The Painted Ladies say the Monarchs go all out for their migration. I’m not even sure how it’s supposed to work, in all honesty.
(.)
Oh, really? So, it’s not like the insect butterflies at all then? It’s more of a self-discovery thing. Oh, and to find a mate of course. Can you do both on one journey?
(.)
Seems like a tall order to me. Then again, you do have your fair share of suitors to choose from. The dining room is just bustlin’ with ‘em!
(.)
Are you alright, your highness? You look nervous.
(.)
Whenever you want to meet them. You are the prince, after all. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind waiting if you want to rest up a while. I can have Dawl show you to the royal suite–
(.)
You want me to show you?
(.)
No, it’s no trouble, your highness. I’d be happy to. May I offer you my arm?
(.)
Heh, your touch is so delicate. Guess I should expect that from royalty. Right this way, then.
[Footsteps]
Don’t worry, your highness. You’ll have plenty of time to rest and freshen up as ya like.
(A bit hesitant) Draw you a bath? Of course. Whatever your highness needs, I’m happy to deliver.
(.)
(Flustered) C-comb your hair? I could – (gulp) – yeah, I could do that. But are you sure you want me to do it? You wouldn’t rather one of your royal assistants or –
(.)
Oh, okay. Then, uh, it would be my honor, your highness. Ah, here’s your room. I hope it’s to your liking, your highness.
[Door opens]
I’m glad you enjoy it. It’s the room with the most windows, so there’s always plenty of light.
(.)
Oh, you want me to come in now?
(.)
Of course! I’ll just, uh, get that bath started. Please make yourself at home, your highness. I’ll only be a moment.
[Door shuts]
(Softly) Gods. Grahven, you big oaf, you’ve done it now. Went and cozied up to a prince and now look at ya. Blushin’ in the mirror like a schoolgirl. Get your head out of the clouds and focus!
[Knocking]
(.)
Nothing, your highness! Just getting your bath started!
[Turns on water]
(Sighs) Just give it up. It’s not like a prince would ever love an ogre, anyway.

Film and TV adaptations of video games have had a tumultuous and checkered history, with the original Super Mario Bros. from 1993 declared among the most disastrous. But off the back of HBO’s critically acclaimed The Last of Us, based on the Playstation/Naughty Dog production and Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an incredible anime series based in the same universe as CD Projekt Red’s story-driven, open-world RPG from 2020; things aren’t looking so bad anymore. However, the trailer for the 2023 Super Mario Bros film certainly got the Nintendo fandom talking, loudly, we might add, about Mario’s new voice. “I totally get it, man,” Pratt told Gizmodo on March 29, 2023. “There’s a passionate fan base and I’m one of the fans. I get it. Mostly, people don’t want something like this to get screwed up. They’re precious about it. They’re careful. And I’m grateful for that.”

In adapting this titular Nintendo character and his universe, Day and Pratt said they have both been huge fans of the IP for years. “My very first memory is the arcade. And then shortly after, probably within six months to a year, the NES came out and we had one in our house and boy, yeah, the rest is history,” Pratt told Gizmodo. “I remember playing Donkey Kong, but I don’t think it was until I owned Super Mario Bros. that I put together that that was Mario and Donkey Kong. That you, kind of, after the fact realized it. But what I remember is my set came with a double [game]. It was both Mario and Zelda. You could play either one and it was great. I played them both as much as I possibly could,” Day said.

Who’s in the Super Mario Bros. Movie movie cast?

Who’s in the Super Mario Bros. Movie cast? It’s a star-studded cast to be sure. In addition to Chris Pratt’s Mario and Charlie Day’s Luigi, here’s who joins the ensemble:

Chris Pratt as Mario: A struggling plumber from Brooklyn, who is accidentally transported to the world of the Mushroom Kingdom and embarks on a quest to save his brother.
Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach: The ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, and Mario’s guide, mentor, and love interest.
Charlie Day as Luigi: Mario’s timid, younger fraternal twin brother and fellow plumber, who is captured by Bowser and his army.
Jack Black as Bowser: A monstrous, fire-breathing spiky-shelled turtle and the king of the Koopas, who rules the Dark Lands, steals the powerful Super Star, and plots to destroy the Mushroom Kingdom.
Keegan-Michael Key as Toad: A mushroom humanoid resident of the Mushroom Kingdom, who aspires to go on his first real adventure.
Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong: A powerful gorilla and heir to the throne of the Jungle Kingdom.
Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong: Donkey Kong’s father, who rules the Jungle Kingdom and leads the Kong Army.
Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike: Mario and Luigi’s former boss from the Wrecking Crew.
Charles Martinet, who voices Mario and Luigi in the Mario games, makes cameo appearances throughout the film.
Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek: A Koopa sorcerer and Bowser’s advisor and informant.
As mentioned, there was a pretty significant backlash to Pratt’s casting in the beginning. “There were certainly discussions of how best to voice the character,” Pratt told Yahoo Entertainment. “We tried a lot of different things and ultimately settled on the voice that you hear when you watch the movie. I’m really happy with it, and I think people are gonna really enjoy it.”

In the video games, voice actor Charles Martinet has provided the “Woo-hoos!” for Mario and his brother Luigi and fans will be pleased he makes cameos as several characters in the 2023 film, including Mario and Luigi’s father. Pratt said his inspiration for the voice of Mario was based on a few of his favorite Brooklyn people, though he fell short of naming who. “I had a few [actors] I was aiming at, but if I say them out loud, it could potentially affect people’s ability to watch the performance,” Pratt said. “So, I won’t say it, but I had a signpost.”

2023.06.06 19:18 devilsravioli A refutation of the First Presidency's 2023 claim that, "The temple covenants and ordinances remain the same.": The evolution of the Law of Chastity as presented in the LDS temple endowment.

Disclaimer: In the following post I outline language from the LDS Temple Endowment, past and present. Nothing disclosed in this post is promised by adherents to remain strictly confidential (names, signs, tokens, and penalties). I can not promise whether the links included disclose what you may deem sacred.
In February of 2023, the LDS Church released a new endowment ceremony that contained a myriad of changes. The changes include adjustments to the visual presentation, upfront disclosures of the covenants, more Jesus, less touching, restructuring of the creation narrative, modifications in character dialogue, omissions, attempts to remove patriarchy, and explicit rewording and explanations of the covenants. Naturally, attendees will notice these differences. The FP added the following quotation to soothe patrons as part of the disclaimer at the introduction of the 2023 endowment (emphasis mine):
You will notice that additional adjustments have been made in the presentation of the endowment, all of which are in harmony with the doctrine of the Savior's restored gospel. The temple covenants and ordinances remain the same.
According to the FP, despite the apparent "adjustments" to the endowment ceremony (bonus points to anyone who can tell me the difference between "adjustments" and "changes"), "The temple covenants and ordinances remain the same." I do not believe this is an honest statement. We can examine the Law of Chastity as it has been presented over the last 100 years in LDS Temples and make a judgement. Below is a table with five different presentations of the Law of Chastity given in the LDS endowment over time (the three oldest from ldsendowment.org and the two newer from transcripts I possess). Each column represents the ceremony of the title period. Each row represents comparable passages in that period. Forgive me for any errors in formatting this information to fit in the table.
Pre-1927 Pre-1990 Post-1990 2019 2023
A couple will now come to the altar. A couple will now come to the altar. A couple will now come to the altar. Adam and Eve, please come to the altar.
Brothers and sisters, please consider yourselves as if you were respectively Adam and Eve.
We are instructed to give unto you the law of chastity. This I will explain. To the sisters, it is that no one of you will have sexual intercourse except with your husband to whom you are legally and lawfully wedded. To the Brethren it is that no one of you will have sexual intercourse except to your wife to whom you are legally and lawfully wedded. We are instructed to give unto you the law of chastity, which is that each of you shall have no sexual relations except with your husband or wife to whom you are legally and lawfully wedded. We are instructed to give unto you the law of chastity, which is, that the women of God’s kingdom and the men of God’s kingdom shall have no sexual relations except with those to whom they are legally and lawfully wedded according to His law. We are instructed to give unto you the law of chastity, which is that God’s sons and God’s daughters shall have sexual relations only with those to whom they are legally and lawfully wedded according to His law.
Sisters, please arise. All please arise.
Brothers and sisters, as invited by Peter, please raise your arm to the square as instructed:
Each of you bring your right arm to the square. Each of you bring your right arm to the square. Each of you bring your right arm to the square. Each of you bring your right arm to the square.
You and each of you do covenant and promise that you will not have sexual intercourse with any of the opposite sex save your lawful husband, given you by the holy priesthood. You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar that you will observe and keep the law of chastity, as it has been explained to you. You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses that you will observe and keep the law of chastity, as it has been explained to you. You and each of you individually covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses that you will observe and keep the Law of Chastity, as it has been explained to you. Each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses that you will keep the law of chastity as it has been explained to you.
All bow your heads and say yes. Each of you bow your head and say, "Yes." Each of you bow your head and say "Yes." Each of you bow your head and say "Yes." Each of you bow your head and say “Yes”.
That will do. That will do. Thank you. Thank you.
Brethren, please arise.
Each of you bring your right arm to the square.
You and each of you do covenant and promise that you will not have sexual intercourse with any of the opposite sex except your lawful wife or wives who are given you by the holy priesthood. You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar that you will observe and keep the law of chastity, as it has been explained to you.
All bow your heads and say yes. Each of you bow your head and say, "Yes.”
That will do.

1927

As Mormonism transitioned, the endowment changed. This was particularly the case when the Church was forced to abandon polygamy at the turn of the 20th century. As generations of active polygamists died off, the endowment language for the Law of Chastity was revised to reflect the iron fist of Grant (ironically) and Clark. All this to squelch any lingering fundamentalists in the Church. A man no longer covenanted to limit their "sexual intercourse" to their wives, but only promised to remain loyal to their legal and lawful wife (emphasis on the legal).

1990

Any changes to the endowment between 1927 and 1990 are insignificant compared to what occurred in 1990. In 1988, the LDS Church issued and distributed a survey to gauge members' attitude toward the temple and other aspects of the church. Some of the instructions/questions included:
Q28: Based on your experience In receiving your own endowment, how much do you agree or disagree with the following statements?
a. I felt prepared for my temple endowment.
b. I had people with me who cared about me
c. I was nervous about what would happen
d. The experience was unpleasant.
e. I was confused by what happened
f. I felt spiritually uplifted by the experience
Q29: Briefly describe how you felt after receiving your own endowment.
Q30: What do you wish you had done or known before you went to the temple for your own endowment?
Q35: If you were unable to participate In these temple ordinances as much as you wanted to during 1987, what are some of the things that made It DIFFICULT FOR YOU to go to the temple?
Evidently, church leadership wanted to know how members felt about the temple. Many believe that a direct result of this feedback was the 1990 adjustments to the temple ceremony. Changes included the removal of the penalties, the removal of the preacher, the removal of explicit phrases in the Adamic language, and removal of the lecture at the veil. These changes reduced the time requirement of the endowment and fortunately blessed us with Michael Ballam as Lucifer. The 1990 version of the endowment is more egalitarian, in that it combines the men's and women's covenant to obey the Law of Chastity (maybe this change was simply for brevity). Also, "intercourse" was replaced with "relations". This ambiguity sure doesn't help when attempting to define what is and isn't restricted in the Law of Chastity. Regardless, the meat of the Law of Chastity did not change in 1990.

2019

2019 is when the endowment changes got really interesting. Here is a summary put together by Jonathan Streeter of all the significant changes that took place. Faithful feminists saw these changes as a massive leap forward. There were significant changes to the wording of the Law of Chastity. Here they are outlined (text=no change, italics=addition, strikethrough=redaction):
We are instructed to give unto you the law of Chastity; which is, that each of you shall have no sexual relations except with your husband or wife to whom you are legally and lawfully wedded. the women of God’s kingdom and the men of God’s kingdom shall have no sexual relations except with those to whom they are legally and lawfully wedded according to His law.
Husbands and wives are no longer the subjects of the covenant. "Men" and "women" of "God's kingdom" are now making the covenant. The Church no longer shares ownership of the titles "husband" or "wife". They were forced to change the Law of Chasity to accommodate this shift in the definitions of these titles and their relationship to one another. After 2015, in the US, legal and lawful husband/husband and wife/wife pairs existed in and out of the Church. It is important to note that, technically, the Law of Chasity, as presented in the temple prior to 2019, accommodated legal and lawful same-sex marriage. Despite this accommodation, the Handbook of Instructions was modified in November 2015 to make entering a legal and lawful same-sex union an excommunicable offense. The temple endowment changes lagged significantly. They did not come until after the Nov 2015 policy was rescinded. The addition of "according to God's law" further galvanized the Church's attempt to fence their heterosexual boundary. These changes have Russell Nelson, Dallin Oaks, and Obergefell v. Hodges written all over them. For example, in 2019 (after the endowment changes), Russell Nelson stated in his infamous "Love and Laws of God" address at BYU (emphasis mine):
Thus our commission as apostles is to teach nothing but truth. That commission does not give us the authority to modify divine law.
For example, let’s consider the definition of marriage. In recent years, many countries, including the United States, have legalized same-sex marriage. As members of the Church, we respect the laws of the land and abide by them, including civil marriage. The truth is, however, that in the beginning—in the beginning—marriage was ordained by God! And to this day it is defined by Him as being between a man and a woman. God has not changed His definition of marriage.
God has also not changed His law of chastity. Requirements to enter the temple have not changed. And our desire for there to be love at home and harmony between parent and child has not changed.
Irony is soaked in his declaration considering he is responsible for changing the meaning of the Law of Chastity as presented in the 2019 endowment. This isn't even considering the changes to the Law of Chastity as a result of Smith's (apparent) denunciation of Celestial Marriage at the turn of the century. Russell Nelson explicitly defines the Law of Chasity being the union between a singular ("a") man and singular ("a") woman. This has not always been so. The Law of Chastity has changed.

2023

In 2023, there was yet again more changes made to the endowment ceremony. These changes were not minor, they were significant. The tone of the entire ceremony shifted. Part of this shift in tone is an emphasis on covenants (Russell Nelson's finger prints). Wherever covenants could be inserted, they were added. In some places these changes were awkward and alter the meaning of the original endowment. For example (text=no change, italics=addition, strikethrough=redaction):
Narrator: Brothers and sisters, through the ages Heavenly Father has sent messengers to communicate with His children. In the endowment, Peter, James, and John symbolically represent such messengers.
Peter: Good morning.
Satan: Good morning, gentlemen.
Peter: What are you doing here?
Satan: Observing the teachings of these people.
Peter: What is being taught?
Satan: I am teaching the philosophies of men mingled with scripture.
Peter: How is this teaching received?
Satan: Many receive it very well, except but these people do not seem to believe what is being taught.
Peter: Good morning. What do you think of this teaching?
Adam: We are looking for messengers from our Father to teach us.
Peter: That is good. Have you any tokens or signs? Have you been true to the covenants you made in the Garden of Eden?
Satan: Have you any money?
Peter: We have sufficient for our needs.
Satan: You can buy anything in this world with money.
Peter: Do you sell your tokens or signs for money? You have them, I presume. Have you been true to your covenants?
Adam: We have them, but we do not sell them for money. We hold them sacred. We have been true to our covenants and are looking for the further light and knowledge Father promised to send us.
Peter: That is right. We commend you for your integrity. Good day. We shall probably visit you again.
Satan: Now is the great day of my power. I reign from the rivers to the ends of the earth. There is none who No one dares to molest or make afraid oppose me.
Satan's famous interjection directed at the Apostles makes no sense with the replacement of "covenants". The find and replace function was used a little too liberally when redrafting the script this time around.
Two significant revisions to the wording of a specific covenant during one administration (Nelson) seems unprecedented, but it happened. The Law of Chastity was affected in 2023 (text=no change, italics=addition, strikethrough=redaction):
We are instructed to give unto you the Law of Chastity, which is that the women of God’s kingdom and the men of God’s kingdom God’s sons and God’s daughters shall have no sexual relations except only with those to whom they are legally and lawfully wedded according to His law.
The parts that were added in 2019 were redefined in the 2023 version. This flip-flop is unprecedented (just as unprecedented as the Nov 2015 policy flip flop). The subject of the covenant is no longer the men and women of God's kingdom, but "God's sons and God's daughters". Also, the Law of Chastity is no longer presented as an exception, but an expectation to follow. The requirement of adhering to "His law" remained.
The reasoning behind the 2019->2023 change to the Law of Chastity remains a mystery to me. The "legally and lawfully wedded according to His law" remained the same. This is the primary refutation of same-sex marriage. The change in subject and restructuring of the covenant serve what purpose? Is the Law of Chastity only applicable to those in God's Kingdom, meaning members of the Church? Are non members not accountable to the repercussions of breaking the Law of Chasity? Did the FP realize this and change back to the generalized sons and daughters of God to encompass all people? Who knows. I would appreciate feedback and insight here.

Summary

What is the Law of Chastity? Do words define the Law? If so, have the words not changed? More importantly, has the meaning of the law changed? If the meaning of the law did not change, who determined the words that define the law? Prophets? Does man really direct God? Do man's words define God's laws? Do we not have the vocabulary to define God's laws? Did God not have the LGBTQ community in mind when he revealed the Law of Chastity to his prophets in 1990? 2019? 2023? Is the text of the explanation of the Law of Chasity as presented in the endowment the ultimate definition of the Law of Chastity? If not, then what is? If we make a covenant to keep the commandments at baptism, why do we need to make an additional covenant to obey the Law of Chastity in the temple? Why is the explanation of the Law of Chastity so trite in the temple when the explanation for the Law in the Church Handbook is so long? Are we not bound by the specificity in the Handbook?
I finished this exercise with more questions than I did when I started. One item became abundantly clear though, the explanation of the Law Chastity has changed. One could argue that the meaning behind the explanation has not changed, but they would then need to explain why the explanation has changed. Do the words matter? The words seem to matter in every other ordinance (i.e. baptism). The leaders of the Church are in such a state of suspension, that in the last 5 years, we have had three different explanations for the Law of Chastity presented in the temple. Things are in motion. This will be the topic of the decade. Irrefutable declarations, such as Nelson's, will not be treated well in the annals of history. Absolutes only become regrets as maturity and nuance grow through experience. This is why we are discouraged from discussing what happens in the temple.
