Odd hole in Ilsa Turbo Express stovetop espresso maker (Moka pot)
2023.06.05 01:20 ee2o Odd hole in Ilsa Turbo Express stovetop espresso maker (Moka pot)
Hey!
I've had a 6 cup Ilsa Turbo Express stovetop espresso maker for years. Once I got the grind and dose correct, the thing brews beautiful, no-sputter cups.
On a recent visit to family, I noticed a neglected 4-cup model from the exact same line. I brought it home and started using it. Unfortunately it sputtered like mad, and was barely usable. Upon close inspection, I found it has a hole bored into the bottom of the funnel leading to the chamber underneath the grounds filter. My larger model has no such hole.
I can't even imagine how the thing would work at all with a hole allowing all pressure to escape upward through the grounds rather that building up and pushing the water up through the spout. Odd thing is, it does work, although poorly.
I'm wondering if this was a "design feature" for a certain time period on this model, or if it was a user hack. My father-in-law states it was used by a "coffee-nut" nephew of his when visiting. To me, the hole looks extremely tidily bored or punched in-factory.
My only guess is that if intentional, it was a method of pre-infusion - allowing steam to dampen the grounds making them less permeable - until the pressure was great enough to force the water up. I vaguely remember a bit about hydraulics and surface area from high school. Again, I DO get coffee out of it, but it is a sputtery, ugly affair.
I did create a foil plug and ran a brew through with the hole plugged, and it was gorgeous - smooth, thick, consistent yield and fast empathic finish. I'll likely thread the hole and plug with a small stainless bolt.
However - does anyone know for certain if this hold is an intentional manufacturing feature, and what the thought was behind it?
Thanks!
- eric

2023.06.05 01:06 JustCuriousArizona Nokia Valuation of P/B vs Operating Margin
| I investigated the following companies P/B ratio vs Operating Margin %. - Ericsson, Eric
- Nokia, Nok
- Juniper Networks, Jnpr
- Cisco, Csco
- Arista Networks, Anet
The reason I didn't compare to PE is profit is funny line item in the accounting world, it can be manipulated, while P/B, book value is difficult to manipulate. Operating Margins is tied to earnings and as you saw from Nokia Q1' 23 earnings report, the street is very sensitive to missing earnings. So earnings is stable with respect to market expectation performance. Following is the table and graph I used, the margins I got from macrotrend, and the P/B ratio I got from Tradingview. If you look at these numbers they will vary slightly from the quarterly reports but they are close. Figure 1: Input Table with Companies OM and P/B as well as Nearest Linear Estimate Figure 2: Valuation Chart of P/B ratio as a function of OM % Note the following: - Nokia is slightly below the Nearest linear estimate, but very close
- Ericsson is above the Nearest linear estimate
- For a P/B ratio of 2 you need at least an OM of 13%
- Both Ericsson and Nokia are very close to the Nearest linear estimate for P/B ratio vs OM %, indicating both are fairly valued for the given OM %.

2023.06.05 00:53 Excellent_Cookie8524 Demons inside me? CT with contrast my last chance.
All this nonsense was after I'm started as soon as I left my country (Russia). It wasn’t really a day like I wake up and this started. It was slightly getting worse for 7 months. I got sick in Armenia, with god know what, and I wasn’t suspecting Covid at that time. after 1 round of antibiotics, I thought I'm fine. I was in the rush to help myself to heal, as I’m coming to Mexico in 2 weeks. Then suddenly all my hotels started to decline in like 2 weeks to head to OAE. 1 week in UAE was fine, I was with my brother, but we started to argue like crazy, because he got the tournament in sports in active mode, and seems like he didnt wanted to spend time with me. We was living separately, because first agreed to live in the hotel my Mom booked for me, but it’s has been declined, so he switched to his BJJ team option, and was living with them. So I booked super expensive hotel because it was F1 started in abu - Dhabi. No way I have this bad luck bro…and all hotels was stuffed with tourists. End up sleeping in a small room no windows god know who’s been there, not a safely sterile place to be. I was mad at my brother and never talked to him again for a 2 months until I’m back to hometown. Out there started noticing that I’m tolerate to Arabic smells. It was strange but I just let it go cuz I have bigger thing on my check list. I was feeling like I’m not completely come off this condition as it was in Armenia. But I let it go. Then suddenly on my departure day, the guard don’t let me go to the flight on Abu - Dhabi - Paris - Cancun flight, out of nowhere, because I have Russian docs leaving Armenia territory? I started noticed something is ain’t right with my Carma or something. I’m flying to Turkey to fly from there. I’m already was feeling exhausted from that day. And I think it’s the virus started to kick in as cytokine storm. Successfully departured and dropped in Cancun. Migracion control don’t let me go out for 30 minutes (only in my case), all of the passengers entered In the country with no issues. 3 days in was very beautiful! Breathing good, no issues. Swimming in ocean, USA on the way, life is great and full of opportunities. Then this wild sh with sinusitis happend, 37,7 temperature for a whole month, really crazy breathing pattern? I thought I’m having asthma as I’m in new side of world? No. Moved to matamoris, I was also been finnesed 3 times while in Mexico. Why me? Body itching, brain fog started. I was the only one who was waited THAT long to cross the border (I was with the church method, it’s paid, and usually they let u cross in 1-2 week). I was waiting 1,5 month. Then stomach problems, then can't tolerate any high in histamine food. I’m guessing at that time i was having pneumonia but it was unnoticed. When I was crossing the border man… let me tell that…. I was SICK. I was red, temperature 38, cough started. While in USA, owners kicked me out of rented apartments multiple times out of no where… then I went to ER and they find pneumothorax with pleuritis out of nowhere… 4 times in ER… then somebody try to snatch me and human trafficked me. What’s that all about? Got luck to be alive and dropped on the Irvine highway. many doctors… run out of money… flight back to Russia without of doubts. My body betrayed me and my plans. Somebody playing with my soul and I have no Luck living as an immigrant, near to death experience. In my hometown, all the tests came back normal. I’m out of mind thinking I’m tweaking cuz of that. Ct scans of lungs - but without contrast - clean. Ultrasound of the heart clean, thyroid clean, ECG clean, visits to gastroenterologist - same pills, same treatment that don’t work.. PPI f up my stomach even more. except for spirometry, it was awful like I have COPD pattern?! 63% of the lung capacity. Constricted airways? Pulmonologist didn’t say nothing at all. My cognitive functions seems disappeared, I can’t remember things, slurping my words, can’t thinks of multiple thing of one time, I’m hearing sounds ridiculously weird, like they on the foreground, my movement not stable, I’m not feeling time at all, like I’m an alien. I can’t breathe. Like I’m breathing continuously in brochoconstriction. My chest is tight and I’m out of breath and have crazy dyspnea walking place to place. Still walking 5 km a days and don’t wanna be a sick dude. I do it, my principals don’t let me be bed bounded. Even some days I bed bounded like crazy. That's crazy cuz I was thinking I had lung cancer. Still do sometimes. But later I catch on, thats a LONG COVID. Tried COPD inhalers and whole lotta asthmatic stuff, only improvement cuz of COPD inhaler. Spirometry slightly improved in 3 month. But right now I'm still feeling like I can't breathe normal, like it’s in spasm all the time, even vapes with nicotine… the nicotine not even absorbing in mu lungs? Just tried it tho. like I’m not connected to this universe, I can’t feel my body, I’m starting to have suicidal thoughs. I tried antidepressants, almost 2 months slightly improved my fatigue and miserableness. feels like my bronchi constricted all the time, I can’t even control it.. I look like a completely healthy person to people and they don’t know what’s wrong with me. Either I have COPD because of COVID (I don't cough at all) or I have lung embolism (never did a CT with constrast). Or somebody f… me up and I got demons or whatever., month of arguing with my pulmonologist, now he's done referred me to it. I also have POTS, MCAS. feeling like I'm high all the time. Also GERD just pissing me off, it's so annoying. I never the same as way back…. On my treatment plan is basic supplements like vitamin D,C, Magnesium, Antihistamines 3 times a week, I theanine + glutamine (very helping me with flare ups and I can even drink coffee without feeling V stoopid and brain fog), NMD, trying nattokinase for the first time (got a slight flare up for about 2-3 hours, then feeling okay, I can breathe more), and I'm waiting for ivermectin and oregano oil pills. But what help me the most, it’s the masseur who did something with energy … 4 days in a row now I feel like my consciousness get back to me! But not 100%. Still can’t breathe tho.
What do I do? I hate me for this mistake! to leave my country as a 100% healthy educational kid with a purpose and motivation > only to spend like 40 racks and catch a deadly autoimmune disease, to be miserable and only research what’s wrong with me on daily basis. Help.

2023.06.05 00:25 f-as-in-frank Eric the midget & Kendra saga. What was happening behind the scenes?
I know it was obviously set up by Johnny but listening to the end after Eric returned home from meeting her in California, he said he wanted to play the field. I believe Eric actually believed Kendra was into him at the beginning. How did he go from being head over heels to wanting to "play the field"? Did Johnny come clean with him that it was set up and they got him to go along with it in the end?

2023.06.04 21:47 AutoModerator How To Watch* (THE LITTLE MERMAID FREE) Online Here’s How
Motion Pictures! Here are options for downloading or watching The Little Mermaid streaming the full movie online for free on 123 movies & Reddit, including where to watch Disney's latest live-action adaptation movies at home. Is The Little Mermaid 2023 available to stream? Is watching The Little Mermaid on Peacock, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Netflix or Amazon Prime? Yes, we have found an authentic streaming option/service. Watch Now: The Little Mermaid (2023) Movie Online Free It's time to dive under the sea once again. Over the last few years, Disney has recreated their top animated musical films into live-action movies. The Little Mermaid is no different, and viewers can't wait to swim into theaters to catch a glimpse of how the movie will stand up against the original version. The latest of Disney's hugely successful line of live-action remakes, Ariel (Halle Bailey) is set to return to theaters for the first time in almost thirty-five years with The Little Mermaid (2023). The Walt Disney Company once again invites audiences to travel under the sea to see Princess Ariel's story unfold like never before. Featuring direction from veteran musical filmmaker Rob Marshall and other roles inhabited by major Hollywood stars like Melissa McCarthy as Ursula the Sea Witch and Javier Bardem as King Triton, the film is bound to be a bona fide hit at the box office. Though the upcoming and highly anticipated film will have stiff competition against two stand-up comedians on the weekend it releases, The Little Mermaid is destined to show that life is better down where it's wetter under the sea this Summer movie season. The 2023 live-action movie will only be available in theaters starting May 26. That means if you want to watch it ASAP. However, it will be available to stream on the Disney+ platform soon. Disney+ typically follows a 90-day period before its theatrical releases come to the streaming platform. That means we may see the live-action version of "The Little Mermaid" come to Disney+ as early as August 2023. Before we ask if you're interested in seeing this, we know you are. But like us, you're probably wondering how to watch and stream The Little Mermaid online. Luckily, we have some clues and it's likely to land on a major streaming site very soon. So climb aboard, because here's where to watch and stream The Little Mermaid online. Ariel's quest to go from a mermaid into a human begins anew when The Little Mermaid premieres this Memorial Day Weekend on Friday, May 26th, 2023. The film will be going up against not one, but two stand-up comedians and their films that weekend, with Sebastian Maniscalco's About My Father and Bert Kreischer's The Machine premiering on the same day. That said, The Little Mermaid will almost certainly be the choice for younger audiences and families. While some Disney films are heading straight to Disney+, The Little Mermaid will first be shown exclusively in theaters. As of now, the only way to watch The Little Mermaid is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on May 26, 2023. You can find a local showing on Fandango. Watch Now: The Little Mermaid (2023) Movie Online Free Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Disney+. At the moment, you can watch The Little Mermaid at your local theater. But like most movies these days, it should hit a streaming website in the near future. Like its predecessor, The Little Mermaid is a flick produced by multimedia conglomerate Disney. What's more, the production studio owns a number of other famous franchises, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. Titles made under these umbrellas have both hit Disney+ sometime after arriving at the box office. Fans may also know the original Little Mermaid is currently available to stream on the site as well. So, if the 2023 version follows the same pattern, folks will likely get to see The Little Mermaid on Disney+ later this year too. As for an exact release date for The Little Mermaid, that's more complicated. Most movies produced by Disney often go to its streamer site within three months after debuting in theaters, like the most recent Marvel film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If this is the case for The Little Mermaid, it will probably drop in late August 2023 or sometime near Labor Day in early September. When the time comes for The Little Mermaid to splash onto Disney+ though, make sure you're all prepared to watch it. If you don't have access yet, you can opt into a 30-day free trial before choosing a plan that start at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. After your account is all set, click on the title page on Disney+'s official website or the Disney+ app. As you wait for The Little Mermaid to hit the streamer, why don't you watch the animated version and its sequel The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea? Or if you want to immerse yourself in another live-action version, click on the 2019 ABC TV special The Little Mermaid Live!. Enjoy! Unlike several of Disney's other live-action remakes such as Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy, The Little Mermaid will be exclusively in movie theaters first with tickets available for pre-sale now. After The Little Mermaid has completed its exclusive theatrical run, the film will be released on the Disney+ streaming service. Based on Disney's past release models, the film won't be made available to stream before 45 to 90 days after its theatrical release. Now that movie theaters seem to be back, The Little Mermaid live-action film will be an in-theater release first before being released to at-home video. That means that your only chance to watch it right now is by going to your local theater. However, don't lose all hope. Since it's a Disney movie, it will eventually make its way over to Disney+ after a few months on the big screen. It will also be available on other streamers like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Google Play, and more to rent and own at your leisure. If you're hoping to get your mermaid kick in now, then you can tune into the original The Little Mermaid which is available on Disney+ and other streaming services including Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, and the Google Play store. The 2023 version of The Little Mermaid will only be in theaters initially. After The Little Mermaid has completed its exclusive theatrical run, it is likely to stream on Disney Plus. You can also watch the animated version of Hans Christian Andersen's 1837 fairy tale of Ariel on Disney Plus now. While you will only be able to catch the new "The Little Mermaid" in theaters starting next Friday, you can still sign up for Disney+ now to refresh yourself on the characters, song, plot and magical fun from the highly anticipated film. The 1989 version of the movie was a catalyst for Disney's animation renaissance throughout the '90s and it still holds up today. An ad-supported Disney+ subscription starts at $8 per month, but you can get an ad-free access to the service for $11 monthly or bundle the Disney streaming service with Hulu and ESPN+ starting at $13 per month. Disney+ boasts a huge collection of movies and television series, including Marvel and Star Wars content. If you add in Hulu and ESPN, you have nearly unlimited entertainment at your fingertips. When will The Little Mermaid be streaming on Disney+? The Little Mermaid Disney+ premiere date is tentatively estimated to be Aug. 30, 2023. While no official Little Mermaid streaming date has been confirmed by Disney, most of its major movie releases drop on Disney+ following a minimum 90-day period, and typically premiere on the platform on Wednesdays, making Wednesday, Aug. 30 the most likely date for Disney’s The Little Mermaid live-action streaming release. Is The Little Mermaid streaming on Netflix? No, The Little Mermaid will not be on Netflix — at least not any time soon. In the meantime, you’ll just have to head out to a movie theater or wait for it to become available to stream on Disney+. Will The Little Mermaid Be On HBO Max? No, The Little Mermaid will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release. Is The Little Mermaid Available On Hulu? Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie The Little Mermaid on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service. Most Viewed, Most Favorite, Top Rating, Top IMDb movies online. Here we can download and watch 123movies movies offline. 123Movies website is the best alternative to The Little Mermaid (2023) free online. We will recommend 123Movies is the best Solarmovie alternatives. There are a few ways to watch The Little Mermaid online in the U.S. You can use a streaming service such as Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video. You can also rent or buy the movie on iTunes or Google Play. You can also watch it on-demand or on a streaming app available on your TV or streaming device if you have cable. The Little Mermaid Cast and Characters The Little Mermaid was written by David Magee and directed by Rob Marshall. It stars the following actors: Halle Bailey as Ariel Melissa McCarthy as Ursula Javier Bardem as King Triton Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric Daveed Diggs as Sebastian Awkwafina as Scuttle Jacob Tremblay as Flounder Art Malik as Sir Grimsby What is The Little Mermaid About? The official synopsis for The Little Mermaid by Walt Disney Studios read: “The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy. There is not much mystery in The Little Mermaid's plot. As seen in Disney's many other live-action remakes, it is anticipated that the film's plot will largely stick to the original. With the well-known song "Part of Your World," in which Ariel sings about her wish to be a part of the world beyond the water, i.e., the human realm, the teaser already alluded to Ariel's fascination with the human world. Fans will get to see Ariel and Prince Eric's romance as they deal with the challenges posed by their differences. submitted by

2023.06.04 21:34 Quiqueen309 How does memory work in the game?
(WARNING‼️INTENSE THEORIZING FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS) Now recently I’ve been thinking a lot about the story line and how Update 5 is going to shed some light on a lot of questions we might have but I decided to go back to the beginning and pick out details that I may not have noticed before. Now it all started when the last update was released and Simba and Nala had to join the valley. In addition to them joining many things that have been obvious to the player is now being discussed by the characters in the game. 1 topics in particular, like how on earth is someone like Scar able to skip death and appear in the valley. This isn’t the first time we’ve thought about it, since characters like Ursula and Mother Gothel have been roaming around since the beginning but this is the first time another character mentions it. Whether the characters remembers their death or not is a topic for another day but their presence in the valley is easily explained. They are there simple because we made it so. It’s our imagination so death is not a barrier in the valley but for some reason Memory is.
Now I know the entire game is about the forgetting and whatever we forget is essentially forgotten in the valley but this ISNT TRUE! Now this is where I need the DDLV community detectives to join me on solving this mystery. Now Im assuming there are plenty of things that the characters remember but just haven’t asked us about or haven’t had the other triggering character enter the valley for the memory to appear. With this being said there is still something off, Just how far do the characters memories go? When I say this, I mean do they remember everything that has already happened to them in their original stories? What is considered cannon to the writers of the game and what is not considered to have taken place at all. Characters like Elsa remember events up to Frozen 2 since she mentions how the powers of the forest spirits work, we can assume that much since this knowledge can’t be obtained unless you’ve seen that movie. On the other hand characters like Nala and Simba can’t even remember that they’ve already had a child named Kiara. If you talk to Nala she mentions wanting to name their child by that name, making it obvious that those events haven’t taken place but they are inevitable because these characters already have stories. Part of me believes it is popularity based but if this is true why even mention something that happens in the future if it isn’t relevant. This is the same with characters like Woody and Buzz who remember Bonnie who is fairly new in their story arcs as their new owner after Andy but Ariel and Eric seem to be stuck in the moment after escaping Ursula? They have no hints so far of having memories of a child named Melody or having to fight Ursula’s sister Morgan’s in their second movie arc.
I’ve thought of one explanation and I’ve resulted in their memories being based on how many characters from their respective movies they have in the game. So the more characters they have the more memories. This is partly true since many of the quest have requirements of other characters being in game or have accessed a certain level of memories. Since Frozen and Mickey Mouse has the most characters they should obtain the most memories of their stories but there is one thing that debunks this. The Toy Story characters! There are only two and somehow they remember up to where their movies drop off. This racks my brain so with further investigation I wanted to include you all on what keeps me up at night and see some of your theories as well. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read and think about this🥹

2023.06.04 21:25 AutoModerator Here's How To Watch The Little Mermaid Free Online: Is Little Mermaid (2023) Streaming?
You can also watch it on-demand or on a streaming app available on your TV or streaming device if you have cable. | https://preview.redd.it/hfecqzkrq7k61.jpg?width=714&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ebb7a4cefa5996be6d6aa213d4ec90948fe2de1 Mondays are renowned in the hardcore workout world as International Chest Day. Meatheads everywhere kick off the training week with set after set of barbell bench press reps to build up their barrel-shaped bodies, grunting and straining to beat their buddies to being strong enough to push the next set of plates. But then, they leave the weight room without hitting a single other implement (unless they're heading to the squat rack for a long round of biceps curls, of course). We're mostly joking about that type of workout, but there are some kernels of truth in the telling. Pushing big weight (and working your way up to pushing big weight) is a worthy endeavor and a great way to stay motivated, but you shouldn't feel limited to only training your major mirror muscles using that single narrow-minded protocol. There's more to training your chest than just doing presses and pec deck reps until your back fuses with the surface of the platform beneath you (hint: you shouldn't only be doing exercises with your back supported by a bench). By just staying within those comfortable realms, you're spurning all of the potential benefits that other moves could offer. You want to stimulate your muscles in different ways, so you can challenge them to adapt and grow as your training plan progresses. For that, you'll need variety. You can train your chest at home or in a pinch with bodyweight moves like pushup variations, feature chest-centric movements in broader full-body workouts to spread the workload, and if you feel like you're lagging, even ramp up the volume beyond the Monday standard with multiple sessions dedicated to chest in a week. There's a whole treasure trove full of workouts and exercises to be uncovered to blast the chest that can sculpt your pecs and push your upper body training days to the next level. Just remember, if your goal is to build chest muscle, you should aim to work using the right protocols for hypertrophy, with the most efficient rep schemes and rest periods. Likewise, you'll need to be eating right to gain muscle. Here are some of the best chest exercises to do just that. Choose two or three to work into your routine, and for best results, rotate in new movements every 3 or 4 weeks. Just remember, there's nothing wrong with a big bench for your chest-as long as your workout doesn't start and end there. The Chest-Building Exercises Bench Press Sure, we just talked about branching out beyond the bench press. But you can't avoid the exercise if you're serious about training-or even if you just step foot into any typical strength facility in the world. The move is standard for a reason: it works. Let's break it down with dumbbells for some variety. Do it: This hypertrophy method means you're more focused on building muscle than pressing max weight, so keep your butt on the bench, with your feet flat on the floor and your glutes and core engaged. You should also drive your shoulder blades down into the bench. Lift your dumbbells up, squeezing the handles tightly. Once your back is on the bench, don't just hold the weights with your elbows parallel to your shoulders. Keep your elbows at a 45-degree angle to help to keep your shoulders safe. Squeeze your chest to drive the weight up, then lower under control under the same path to just above your chest. Drive back up to hit another rep. Chest Fly One of the absolute go-to chest exercises, the chest fly is all about creating tension through the movement. Your goal is not to flap your arms like a bird to take flight, like the name suggests-squeezing is the name of the game here. That means you'll probably use less weight than you might expect. Do it: Lay on a flat bench, gripping dumbbells in each hand. Press the weights up above your chest, keeping them from touching, with your pinkies turned slightly inward. Maintain full body tension on the bench. Lower your arms down moving only at your shoulders, keeping a slight elbow bend. Only go as deep as your shoulder mobility allows. Squeeze your shoulder blades to raise the weight back up to the starting position, and emphasize the squeeze in your chest at the top. Dumbbell Floor Press No bench? No problem. Take your dumbbell press to the floor for a shoulder-safe chest pump. This is another excellent option for building up your chest with home workouts, since all you'll need are some weights and some space to spread out. Do it: Lay back on the floor gripping a pair of dumbbells tightly. Keep your feet flat on the floor, driving with your heels and squeezing your glutes. Keep your elbows at a 45 degree angle relative to your torso to keep your shoulders safe. Press the dumbbells up and squeeze your chest at the top position. Lower back with control, allowing your elbows to rest briefly on the ground. Band Chest Fly For a great warmup before a chest workout or a killer burnout to finish one, try out the band chest fly. The move isn't much different than its big brother, the cable fly (more on that below) or the dumbbell fly, but the use of exercise bands makes it more accessible, and potentially another exercise you can do at home. "This exercise can be an extremely effective single or double arm exercise increasing hypertrophy and muscular endurance (providing that pump) without putting the amount of stress on the shoulder joints that a chest fly with a dumbbell would," says athlete performance and development specialist Curtis Shannon, "I like programming it as an accessory, warmup/priming, filler, or finisher lift. It can also be programmed with a global lower and upper body pull exercise, such as a deadlift or bent over row. Or simply use it as a "beach day" workout exercise that focuses on high volume for that "pump". " Do it: Attach two bands to a stable base, like a power rack or tower. Grab the ends of the bands in each hand, wrapping around your palms. Stand in a staggered stance in the middle of the station. Your arms should be outstretched but slightly bent. Lean forward slightly at your hips and avoid rounding your back. Without changing the bend in your arms, bring your hands together. Slowly reverse the movement, keeping the bands controlled. Batwing Fly Spend more time at the bottom of the movement to really reap its benefits. Start with light weights to get used to the move, and try alternating between overhand and neutral grips to switch things up. Do it: Sit on an incline bench with dumbbells in each hand. Start with the weights held with your hands at your pecs, as if you were preparing for a press. Keep your chest strong, with a natural arch in the lower back. Straighten your arms out to each side, maintaining your strong chest position. Pause for a count with your arms extended, stretching the muscles. Half-Kneeling Chest Press Take a knee for some chest gains. The half-kneeling chest press also gives you the opportunity to hone your core while you're off-balance, offering even more benefits and making the exercise more realistic. "In the real world, we don't get to work symmetrically. We're kind of off balance a little bit," said Men's Health fitness director Ebenezer Samuel, "This puts you in an off-balance position. " Do it: Kneel with one leg forward in front of a cable machine setup. Grab the cable with the same hand as the knee that's down on the ground. Keeping your core tight and your up-knee straight, press the cable out in front of your chest. As you return your arm back to the starting position, avoid turning with the cable by squeezing your core and stabilizing your hip against the ground. Incline Dumbbell Bench Press This is an upper body push exercise that targets the pectoralis major (upper chest), clavicular, costal and sternal head, along with the anterior deltoids, triceps, biceps and serratus anterior. "This is a great exercise to implement into your program, giving your upper body push routine some variety," Shannon says. "The mechanical load and position on the incline bench press provides a greater challenge than the flat or decline bench. This will essentially allow you to get a greater adaptational response with less weight than with the flat benchpress. I personally feel more muscle in the chest and less stress in the shoulder joint when I perform this exercise, in comparison to the flat bench. " Shannon recommends programming this as either a primary or accessory lift. The prescription all depends on the load, intensity and volume. Do it: Lie on a bench with the backrest set at a 45-degree incline. Hold a pair of dumbbells above your chest with your arms straight and your palms turned toward your feet, which should be flat on the floor. Keep your core tight and avoid arching your back, which means your butt should be glued to the seat. Press the dumbbells up, directly above the shoulders. You might have seen some people in the gym knocking the weights together at the top, but there's no need to do that here. Lower the dumbbells to chest level-but don't stress on how deep you go-before you press them back up for the next rep. Close-Grip Bench Press You can lift more weight with a barbell than with dumbbells because they're more stable. That's why barbell presses generally build more raw strength in your chest. But this variation puts more focus on your triceps, so you'll get the added bonus of extra work for the biggest muscles in your arms, too. Do it: Using an overhand grip that's a bit narrower than shoulder width, hold a barbell above your sternum with your arms straight. Lower the bar to your chest. Hold for 1 second. Press the bar up. Cable Fly When it comes to working their pecs, most guys just press. Adding the fly to your routine gives your pecs and front deltoids a new it: Attach two stirrup handles to the high-pulley cables of a cable-crossover station. Grab a handle with each hand, and stand in a staggered stance in the middle of the station. Your arms should be outstretched but slightly bent. Lean forward slightly at your hips; don't round your back. Without changing the bend in your arms, bring your hands together. Slowly reverse the movement. Photograph by Beth Bischoff Decline Dumbbell Bench Press Changing the angle on the bench does more than just switch up the scenery. This exercise zeroes in on your lower chest, helping to build serious size, according to Tyler English, , author of Natural Bodybuilder's it: Lie on a decline bench with your shins hooked beneath the leg support. Hold a pair of dumbbells above your chest with your arms straight. Your palms should face your feet and the weights should be just outside your shoulders. Lower the dumbbells to your chest, pause, and then press them back up to the starting position. Photograph by Beth Bischoff Band or Chain Barbell Bench Press Adding chains or bands to the ends of a barbell changes the load as you move through the different phases of the lift. Each chain link weighs 'X' amount of pounds, and that poundage is now something you're actually lifting and managing. As you move through the eccentric (lengthening) part of the lift, lowering the weight to your chest, you're lessening the load as there is more of the chain on the ground. When you press the weight up, you lift more links of the chain up, bringing that extra weight up. Bands work in a similar manner using the constant tension on the bar. Do it: Hang a chain over each end of the barbell, or anchor resistance bands to the bench and place them over each end of the bar. Start without weight, in order to get used to the unstable bar. Grab the barbell and lie on a bench. Using an overhand grip that's just beyond shoulder width, hold the bar above your sternum, keeping your arms straight. Lower the bar to your chest, and then push it back to the starting position. Plyometric Pushup This explosive pushup nails the fast-twitch muscles in your chest, priming them for growth, said English. The movement also gives you another, more powerful option for at-home chest it: Get into a pushup position, your hands just outside your chest, your feet shoulder-width apart, and your body forming a straight line from head to heels. Brace your core. Lower your chest to the floor and then press up explosively so your hands come off the floor. If you can pull it off, clap your hands together before returning to the starting position on the ground. Single-Arm Dumbbell Bench Press This exercise hits your chest like any awesome bench variation. But what makes it particularly special is that the other side of your body, specifically your core, has to lock down so the dumbbell doesn't pull you off the bench, says Dan John, legendary strength coach. The end result: The exercise sculpts your chest-and abs-to a greater degree. Do it: Lie with your back flat on a bench holding a dumbbell in your right hand. Press the dumbbell directly over your chest until your arm is straight. Slowly lower the dumbbell to the right side of your chest. Pause, then press it back up. Do all your reps on your right side, and then repeat on your left. Suspended Pushup Performing pushups with your hands in an unstable suspension trainer works your core, chest, and stabilizer muscles harder than doing pushups on the floor, said English. Using the TRX straps makes this another more accessible option for home it: Grab the handles of a TRX strap and extend your arms in front of your chest. Your feet should be shoulder-width apart and your body anywhere from 45 degrees to parallel from the floor. Your body should form a straight line from head to heels. Lower your chest toward the floor until your hands are just outside your shoulders. Keep your elbows in and your head in a neutral position as you lower. Brace your core throughout the movement. Standing One-Arm Landmine Press Most chest presses stress your shoulders. This exercise nails your chest while improving your shoulder mobility. Your shoulder blade moves with you as you press, putting less strain on the joint, said Eric Cressey, co-owner of Cressey Sports Performance in Hudson, MA. And because your core has to lock down to prevent your torso from bending back or twisting, it also rocks your it: Perform this unique exercise by placing one end of a barbell securely into the corner, grabbing the opposite end with one arm. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, bending slightly at the knees while pushing your butt back. Start with your elbow by your side with your wrist up near your shoulder. Brace your core and press your arm straight up and out toward the ceiling. submitted by yellowumbrella to HealthyZapper [link] [comments] |

2023.06.04 20:18 Spartan113X FFVIII: Best GFs for each Party Member (In-depth Analysis)
If anyone else is like me then when playing Final Fantasy VIII, they LOVE to assign specific GFs to specific characters, they feel that they fit best with. Over the years and through multiple times playing this game, I’ve always come back to doing this and given it a LOT more thought than I care to admit, to see if I was wrong about any or if one meshes up better with another character. As such, I figured I’d finally publish my list for anyone who either wants to use it or who wants to challenge my perspective and thinks I’m wrong about one of them. This will run a bit long, but it’s meant to be fun and comprehensive, so enjoy how much I’ve nerded out on this game for your benefit, lol.
Quezacotl – I associate Zell with ThundeWind, mainly due to the second GF I decided to give him and his energetic personality. In my opinion, the first 3 GFs should be divided amongst the first 3 characters, and everyone should have at least 1 by the end of disk 1. The next 2 are much stronger fits, which explain why this one is assigned to Zell as his first GF, along with his other GF below. If I had to connect it to something else though, I’d point out how Quezacotl’s wings and body look tattooed like Zell’s face and how if someone is going to goof off slightlyduring battle to turn enemies into collectable trading cards, it’s definitely going to be Zell.
Shiva – Many would say Squall because of his personality, but I disagree which I’ll explain further below. I associate Quistis with Ice/Water, and Shiva even kind of looks like her with the yellow pigtails. Seeing as how it’s obtained from the computer in her classroom or gifted to Squall for the exam by her, it should go back to her as her first GF. Since she’s also Squall’s support during the exam when obtaining Ifrit, it makes perfect sense she would have the trump card as his support and teacher, in the event he got in trouble. It’s refine ability also pairs well with another GF we’ll give to her further down, due to the fact it refines both Ice and Water magic and groups them together.
Ifrit – Many people want to pair this with Zell, but I think that’s wrong. It’s basically a flaming lion with horns. Who better to give it to than to Squall? After all a lion is his motif, it was the first part of his SeeD exam and the first GF he obtained on his own, that wasn’t given to him. I also personally associate Squall with the element of Fire. After all, he uses it in Kingdom Hearts which came out shortly after this, one of his swords is called the Flame Saber and pretty much every promotional image of the Gunblade or Greiver symbol has it on fire. Sure, Squall’s personality might by icy, but if you pay attention, he’s a mirror of Seifer. They use the same weapon, so preferring the same magic type, makes perfect sense. It also serves as an excellent juxtaposition against Edea’s Ice. In addition, Ifrit’s compatibility item Red Fang, is needed for Squall’s Gunblade, Twin Lance. Also, to obtain Rinoa’s card, Squall also must lose Ifrit to General Caraway and to get it back, he has to beat the only other Headmaster we meet, Martine: fitting for both the leader of our party and Rinoa’s love interest and Knight. Finally, it has the ability to refine ammo, which even though we don’t use it in game, would be necessary for Squall’s Gunblade.
Siren – I initially had the hardest time with this one and Carbnucle, as one had to go to Rinoa and the other to Selphie, both because it fits thematically and for balancing issues as I want everyone to have at least 1 GF by the end of the first disk. Despite the angelic appearance, and the fact it’s a musician and singer like Rinoa’s mother, I chose to give this one to Selphie as her first GF. In the game, Selphie shows more musical interest than Rinoa does, and the GF is obtained in Dollet, shortly after meeting Selphie and as part of her field exam. As such, I felt it should appropriately go to her. Finally, its ability to refine life magic fits in well with Selphie’s White Mage role in the game.
Brothers - Irvine seems like an Earth elemental sort of person to me and the Brothers are found right next to Galbadia Garden, shortly after acquiring Irvine. Seeing as how the tomb is also a requirement for the assassination mission, other Galbadia students failed to conquer it, and how the motto of Galbadia Garden is "Keep on Rockin'", it seems only fitting for him to claim them as his first GF. In addition, their attack is called Brotherly Love which fits in with Irvine being the only character to remember his family from the orphanage. They also perform a move called Mad Cow Special during their boss battle, which aligns with Irvine being a Cowboy. Finally, to obtain Irvine's Triple Triad card, you must lose Brothers first, and if you refine the card, you gain Dino Bones which are necessary for Irvine’s ultimate weapon, while also being Brother's compatibility item. In other countries this GF is also named Taurus, after the zodiac sign of the bull, something cowboys are known for riding.
Diablos – This GF is a gift from Cid, and as such I think it pairs best with Squall, as a gift from one SeeD Commander and Sorceress’s Knight to another. Diablos also specializes in time refinement magic, which I feel aligns perfectly with both his sister, Ellone’s abilities, and that his is destined to fight against Ultimicia who is trying to enact Time Compression. It’s also the only GF you can obtain as Laguna which kind of adds in a generational aspect to it. Finally, I think the concept of the magic lamp makes for a really cool Bootstrap Paradox. Perhaps Squall lost it at the end of the game and Edea gave it to Cid, to give back to him.
Carbnucle – As I said I initially had trouble with this and Siren for Rinoa and Selphie. Ultimately though, I decided to give this to Rinoa as I feel it fits better than Siren. Carbnucle is obtained in Deiling City, her hometown from the Iguions sent to kill her by Edea. As such, I feel it’s only appropriate that she get this as her first GF, as it has the ability to protect her from magic, through Reflect. Seeing as how it also came from Edea and Rinoa end up being a sorceress, this seemed to fit well as her other GF. In addition it has the ability to refine recovery medicine and it’s card is held by the Card Club Member, the Queen Heart, matching with her last name.
Leviathan - As mentioned above, I matched Quistis with the element of Ice/Water. Leviathan is held in Balamb Garden by Norg, one of her former bosses. To me that says it should go to another faculty member of Balamb Garden, so either Squall or Quistis. Squall in my opinion has much better GFs that align with him, but even without that fact, Quistis is still a stronger candidate. After all, it pairs perfectly with Shiva above, as Shiva refines water magic, not Leviathan. This GF is also responsible for support magic and GF Recovery medicine which seems fitting for your former teacher, making sure both you and your GFs stay healthy. In addition, the Levithan card is held in the training grounds by the Card Club member immediately following her, Joker, and if you refine it, you get Doc's Codes which pairs well with the fact she gained the Card Club Master King position from Dr. Kadowaki.
Pandemona - As I said at the start, I associate Zell with ThundeWind. Pandemona is obtained in Balamb Town, Zell's hometown where he is idolized and seen as a bit of a hero. It's drawn from Seifer's sidekicks on the disciplinary committee that Zell is always getting in trouble with and as such, it seems poetic to me that your sidekick gets to stand up to his bullies, save his hometown, and steal their GF in the process. Finally, the Pandemona Card is also held by hotel owner involved in Zell's Love Quest with the Library Girl, as that’s their “love spot” in the compatibility quiz and where she awards him with a Combat King magazine.
Cerberus - Cerberus is found in Galbadia Garden during the Battle of the Gardens. From what we can tell they had likely started experimenting with GFs. As such, if it's going to go to someone in our party, it should likely go to the only person from said Garden, Irvine. Giving Irvine Cerberus, also mirrors the only other non-SeeD member Rinoa, having both a dog and the only other non-combat GF, Carbnucle. Finally, the Cerberus card modifies into Lightweight, an item drop from another GF related monster, we'll be assigning to Irvine further down, helping tie his GF choices together.
Alexander - Rinoa best fits with the element of Holy in my opinion. After all, she has angel wings on her back, as part of her limit break, and even her on ultimate weapon. She's also constantly surrounded by white feathers and shooting stars throughout the game and in promotional images. Not to mention this Gf is acquired as Ultimicia is defeated in Edea and transfers her powers and consciousness into Rinoa, so it seems only right that the GF should be transferred as well. Besides it's a robotic castle that looks like a knight and I'm sure Squall wouldn't mind the extra help. Alexander can also take transform other spells into the most powerful forms of magic and naturally learns revive, which is fitting for our new sorceress. Finally, the Alexander card is also held by Piet up at the Lunar Base where Rinoa is possessed, unleashes Adel, and shortly after also obtains Adel’s powers, tying further into the fact it should go to a sorceress.
Doomtrain – This one should be obvious. There’s one person in the game who constantly talks about trains and their love for them and that’s, Selphie. A demonic train who inflicts your enemies with poison and every negative status effect imaginable is right up her alley. If we also divide the elements of the game, Poison is left for Selphie, which is fitting as she’d easily be the one most likely to kill you with it. Plus, Doomtrain’s refine ability allows you to refine forbidden medicine which also fits in with Selphie’s White Mage role. To add in a nod to Selphie’s other GF’s the ring is also obtained under a statue of a girl holding a harp like Siren and the Doomtrain card is obtained from the pub owner in Timber, the same exact location, another GF related card below is found.
Bahamut - Known as the Great GFs according to Squall. This is the King of GFs and as such I feel it’s only proper that it should go to him. After all, his father played Zefer in the movie, The Sorceress’s Knight, and before you face Bahamut, he throws multiple Ruby Dragons at you, so in a way it’s a bit poetic that Squall should obtain the dragon GF, while being Rinoa’s Knight. In addition, Ultimicia also has Tiamat as her ultimate monster before Greiver is pulled from Squall's mind, so it seems only fitting Squall should have its counterpart. The fact you can also obtain the highest magic in the game from him through his refine ability and that he serves as the test to make your way to Eden, only cements this choice further. Finally, his move Megaflare matches up somewhat with Ifrit, as in games where Flare has an element, it's fire.
Cactuar - Cactuar has no clear ties to any of the characters at first glance, however a cactus fits in with Irvine’s whole cowboy & western motif if you think about it. I also noticed at the start of its summon animation, when it jumps in front of the stylized sun, that image of the rays is nearly identical to the circular pendant Irvine wears, and if we look at the bottom of his necklace, it resembles the 3 quills on Cactuar's head. His name is also taken from the word pretender in other languages, which I feel aligns with Irvine, pretending to not know the others until later in the game. Finally, it attacks by shooting 10,000 needles, something fitting for the only person with a gun.
Tonberry - Tonberry at first glance doesn't display any obvious ties to our characters, however if we dig a little deeper, we can see a connection. If we go to Trabia Garden, a cadet mentions the Tonberry GF in his sleep. We also know that as a child, another member of Trabia Garden, Selphie, obtained a GF during an outdoor training session, that she found inside a monster, after defeating it. If we happen to find a secret Timber Mechanics magazine, it adds an entry on the computer which shows a younger Selphie taking a trip to the Centra Ruins as a child. If we connect the dots, this leads me to believe that IF it's one of the GFs we encounter in the game, Selphie's childhood GF was likely Tonberry. In addition Tonberry has numerous shopping related abilities such as, Sell High, Familiar, Haggle, and Call Shop, that all pair thematically well with Selphie’s other GF, Doomtrain, and his Junk Shop ability, tying everything together. Tonberry King even attacks you with Junk while you’re battling him. Plus when it comes down to it, who else do you realistically get cute and borderline psycho killer vibes from? Finally, while you obtain the Doomtrain card from the pub owner in Timber, you can get the Tonberry Card from the drunken drifter nearby, further tying them together.
Eden - The ultimate GF. The only 2 people it could logically go to is either Squall or Rinoa. Of those, I think Squall is a better fit as you obtain it from the 2nd most powerful monster in the game, and if you miss it, it's obtained from Tiamat, Bahamut's counterpart. It's also a mobile garden after all, and who better to go to than our protagonist and the creator of both Garden and SeeDs. Eden also contains a few angel wing motifs throughout its design which adds in a nod to Rinoa and nice thematic imagery with Squall being her knight. Finally, it has an attack called Eternal Breath which alludes to time, and the fact both Squall and his archenemy Ultimicia are bound to it. It's refine ability also allows you to teach all other GFs abilities which is appropriately fitting for the Garden Commander.
Additional Notes – Some may ask why Irvine and Selphie got 3 and everyone else except for Squall got 2. This is mainly due to Cactuar and Tonberry as there’s really no one they pair better with in my opinion than Irvine and Selphie. If you want an in-universe reason though to keep with the theme, I feel because Trabia and Galbadia are not as experienced with GFs, Squall may want to help get them up to speed. This does not need to be done for Rinoa cause by this time she’s a Sorceress. I think it also works well as those 2 are our B couple in the game. It could also be cause the other 3 have been using GFs longer, so by giving it to them, it could help Squall, Zell, and Quistis slightly combat the effects of memory loss.
Rinoa and Irvine got the support GFs cause they’re not SeeD and cause I saw Squall wanting them to practice before they were allowed more powerful summons. The exception to this was Brothers and only because necessity demanded it with Irvine being involved with the assassination mission against the Sorceress. It was also nice to be able to give Irvine a dog, since Rinoa already had one.
ThundeWind and Ice/Water are paired up in this game with Quezacotl and Shiva, so I did the same with Zell and Quistis. I feel these fits well as they’re the original Balamb SeeDs along with Squall, while Selphie is technically a transfer. This means the Final Fantasy trifecta starting elements of Fire, Thunder, and Ice are divided amongst the original Balamb Members.
So that’s everything. If I messed up on something, missed something I could’ve added, or someone else fits better with a specific GF, feel free to comment below and give me your analysis.
