2023.06.05 01:02 DrootersOn10th 51/50’d and scared for legal bills

So I was on an alcoholic bender last week in Los Angeles. I was texting with my girlfriend and just said “I might not live much longer.” Meaning I was in pain, headache, all that. Stupid thing to text as I know now with a clear head that’d set off alarm bells.
Well, 10 min later 2 cops arrive at my door. I’m composed, was very polite, offered them in and according to one “you don’t seem that drunk.” Nevertheless, they said they were left with no choice but to place me in cuffs and have me transported to the hospital for a 72 hour watch. I never argued, was respectful the whole time, etc. I didn’t understand the gravity of what was happening. Figured I’d just explain myself when I got there and boom, Uber back home…
After about 12-14 hours there, a physician agreed I didn’t need to be there as I wasn’t suicidal and they sent me home.
I haven’t seen the legal bills yet (my insurance lapsed in April btw) but I guarantee they’re going to be astronomical. So what do I do? Any and all advice would be appreciated.

2023.06.05 00:12 SnooCapers3597 Admittedly esoteric question about high altitudes and risk management of thoracic aortic aneurysm

51 male, 175cm, 68kg. No drugs, non-smoker, social drinker.
47mm idiopathic and asymptomatic thoracic aortic aneurysm at SOVA. Idiopathic as no evidence of genetic connective tissue condition, otherwise healthy. Mild aortic valve regurgitation given location of dilation.
Meds: -Atorvastatin 40mg QD (no hyperlipidemia but it maintains my LDL =>70 mg/dL -Atenolol 25mg QD -Amlodipine 5mg QD (BP is labile but the CCB keep my SBP =>110 mmHg)
As with most aneurysms, the initial finding in 01/22 was incidental to another imaging study (in my case a calcium scoring which found no plaques). In the intervening time the aneurysm has not grown. I receive screenings every six months.
I’m under the care of the fine docs at the Schmidt Heart Institute at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. The doctors there don’t know the answer to my question so I’m hoping someone either has some background here or can refer me to a colleague.
Prior to my diagnosis I was an avid mountaineer and enjoyed climbing mountains between 3000m and 4500m. I know that due to the reduced barometric pressure at these altitudes blood pressure increases, among other physiological effects. I’d like to resume some high altitude climbing but I’d like to get a better understanding of the risks and whether I can mitigate them through blood pressure and heart rate control exclusively. NB: I’m not concerned with AMS or its sequela such as HAPE or HACE as I tolerate high altitudes well and in countless adventures I’ve never suffered from these conditions.
The question is, if I maintain my heart rate and blood pressure at rates established as low risk for sea level (through continuous monitoring at higher altitudes) what are the risks I’m not considering? What are the confounding variables? If I’m at 3500m but my BP is 110/70mmHg and my heart rate is 110 am I at greater risk for dissection/rupture?
I know this is arguably esoteric but I’m not sure how to find a cardio with this background and perhaps someone here knows someone who’s done research in this area. I have a bit of a medical background but not in this area and I haven’t found good studies to inform my decisions.

Fishtail palm isn’t doing so well. Could it be the soil or perhaps watering?
This is at my parents house and my mom doesn’t have the greenest of thumbs when it comes to indoor plants. It’s struggling and I’d like to help her bring it back to good health.
Any tips on what we can do to help the browning leaves? She’s had it for a few years and I’d love to save it before it’s too late.
Parents are in Los Angeles with notoriously bad tap water so maybe it’s just too much fluoride?
