This story is about a boy named Veris, born into the lowest caste within a country named the Tylansi Sovereignty. His journey begins with him traveling to a city named Eithas for work.
The air grew thick and spoiled as the bus approached the city, whether due to the chemical smoke of industry or the exhaust from the bus’s increased speed, Veris did not know. The gossamer sheets that served as windows for the bus were dirty and bloodstained, offering no respite from the blazing heat or the odor. The bus was seatless, a moving jail made of darkened steel filled with dozens of dark-skinned men and women with rough, dark skin and gnarled farming hands. Despite the fullness, a strange stillness suffused the area— one common among the Acaska caste. The fear of sudden and merciless violence.
Tusta caste soldiers, dressed in crisp white uniforms adorned with silver bells, sat with weapons at the ready behind a wire gate at the front. Sharks behind glass. The Tusta caste occupied a position that wasn’t too high that they were expected to ignore the Acaska, nor too low to sympathize with them. It was a perfect vantage point for casual cruelty.
Two months had passed since the call for work to the city was made, but the buses were still packed beyond capacity. Hungry, beaten people hoping for a chance at a city salary.

2023.06.05 01:49 Flacki Please some Feedback and Advice for this planned PC build
https://geizhals.de/wishlists/3202285
CPU | i9-13900K, 8C+16c/32T, 3.00-5.80GHz |
AIO | DeepCool LS720 |
MoBo | ASRock Z790 PG Lightning |
Storage x2 | Western Digital WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe SSD 2TB, M.2 |
RAM | G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB schwarz DIMM Kit 64GB, DDR5-6000, CL30-40-40-96 |
GPU | GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24G |
PSU | be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000W ATX 3.0 |
Case | Lian Li LANCOOL III RGB Black |
Currently looking for Feedback on the above build draft.
I'm trying to cut down the cost some and need feedback on various parts please.
Would everything be ok, or are there any bottlenecks / incompatibilities, some obvious choices for different parts due to much better cost/performance maybe?
PC will be used for programming / dev work and gaming. Games are varied alot but i don't play any FPS heavy games like shooters or such. MMOs, retro style games, Steamcharts pretty much up and down... would like to see Cyberpunk with nice graphics and still good perfromance.
Currently just one 27" 60Hz monitor, but i would want to upgrade later this year to something more uptodate and ~144Hz. In total i would like to run two 27" monitors. The GPU should handle this.
I will need performance for VMs and editing videos.
At first i wanted a budget around 3k, currently i'm sitting 3,8k. So far it is ok'ish, but if i could get the cost down some more it would be nicer.
The SSD is twice, because i don't want to take apart everything again just to upgrade my storage later on. Do they fit on this board tho and is extra cooling for them needed? I read these could run hotter.
I'm unsure about the necessity for the i9. Could the i7 be sufficient maybe?
The heat output is also a concern, will the AIO be sufficient for the i9? Could i get an Air Cooler for the i9 / i7?
Onboard iGPU is needed just in case the GPU has issues.
Do i overpay currently with an i9 and an i7 would be enough?
Does the motherboard and RAM fit, did i choose the correct CL?
AIO and RAM space is a concern for me, as i want to upgrade to 64GB later on, but i have seen a lot of builds, where the AIO cables have been blocking the closest RAM slot or at least severly intruding onto it and hindering the placement / seating of the stick.
Is there anything i can pay attention to, to avoid this issue? Some AIOs seem to have a certain / only orientation they can be seated on top of an CPU?
The PSU does have the cable for the 4090 already or do i need to get one extra?
Is the the PSU to low, i'd rather have some headspace on it and it running cool and silent.
Do i really need an ATX 3.0 form factor PSU for the 4090?
The case is not fix yet, tho i do like this one, but what would be better for this build, to maybe keep it cooler or better accommodate the parts?
Do i need to get more fans for the case with this setup?
Please, if more informations are needed, ask away.
I'd appreciate every feedback you can give!
Thank you!

Had an absolute blast and I'm. Not even done Act 2 yet!
So much llfun optimising my build to just shred things.
Can definitely feel getting more and more powerful with slight tweaks to the build overall.

2023.06.05 01:37 BriannaxG It’s hot in Florida, and my dog needs to lose weight. What should I do?
Hello everyone,
My dog, Mia, is 11 years old. We need to get her to lose weight for her overall health and so she can get a dental cleaning.
I live in Florida, so, of course, this time of year, it gets pretty hot. We want to incorporate daily walks into our routine, but I’m unsure of what the best time of day to walk her is. I’ve read early in the morning and evening, but at those times, the air temperature is not as hot, but the humidity is very high. I’ve read that high humidity can prevent dogs from cooling down when panting; I’m scared of her getting heat stroke. Since she’s heavier right now and older, I’m concerned she’s more susceptible.
Additionally, I know in the late morning and afternoon, the pavement gets hot, and I can’t walk her then either because it’ll burn her paws.
Unfortunately, she’s a dog that hates water so I can’t exercise her in the pool, at a dog beach, or anything like that.
The vet recommended that we feed her 20% less of her food to aid in weight loss, so we’ll also be doing that. I’m just curious if anyone knows the best time to walk her during this time.
Thank you!

2023.06.05 01:29 bigcd34 My take a second Stasis Super for every class.
Titan: Ice Shelf
While standing still, create a towering slanted mass of Stasis Crystals that Freezes and pushes back enemies. Allies atop this wall gain Weapons of Dark which causes weapon damage to Slow targets.
Walking causes you to leap forward and crash down with a Freezing burst before creating the Ice Shelf.
Sprinting causes you to encase yourself in Stasis matter while continuing forward before being launched into the air by a Stasis Crystal and crashing down in a Freezing blast.
Notes Pushes back enemies in range of the Stasis Crystals to avoid getting stuck in them. The default lasts for 25 seconds. It is extended to 30 with Whisper of Durance. In PVE Weapons of Dark applies 20 stacks of Slow for each instance of damage, in PVP this is reduced to 10 stacks. The sprinting form has the same damage resistance as Glacial Quake. While airborne it is treated as walking, it can also be directed while in the air like a heavy attack from Glacial Quake. Due to Weapons of Dark not being a damage buff it would stack with damage buffs. The crystals are slanted in such a way that they can be walked up. Avoid using it in tight corridors unless you want to simulate what it's like to be trapped in a cave-in. The launch while sprinting is a normal Stasis Crystal that can freeze enemies if you want to make someone mad at you. If you pop the super while using Shiver Strike it counts as sprinting regardless of if you're in the air or not, causing the crystal launch to happen when the melee ends or on contact with the ground, turn the world into your trampoline.
____________________
Warlock: Hailstorm
Using your Stasis scepter, summon a storm that rains down small Stasis Crystals. The cloud can be shot to more rapidly produce these crystals at the cost of its duration. At the end of its lifetime, it produces a shockwave that Shatters all nearby Frozen enemies or Stasis Crystals.
Notes: Creates a thin but wide 'stormcloud' that chases enemies at a slow pace. Drops one small Stasis Crystal every half second for 15 seconds, 20 with Whisper of Durance. Shooting the cloud causes one of its crystals to drop for every instance of damage. allies cannot shoot it, but enemies can. Each time it takes damage it loses half a second of duration. Watch it pour down a cascade of crystals when you hit it with an extremely high RPM weapon. The storm will raise and lower itself to enter tight spaces. It doesn't forget an enemy exists when they're frozen. Some Hunter is going to get mad that it's like a cooler Squall, but Squall's faster.
___________________________ Hunter: Fissure and Flurry
Summon a pair of kamas linked by Stasis Matter to torment your foes.
Light attack: A rapid-hitting Slowing flurry of blows ending in a Shattering finale. Kills with light attacks empower your heavy attack.
Heavy attack: Sling forward one of your kamas, implanting it into whatever they impact with a Freezing blast. Both can be implanted before needing to be pulled back in with a light attack. Airborn heavy attacks implant both kamas at the same time. When empowered create a large Stasis Crystal at the point of impact, at full empowerment also create a trail of small Stasis Crystals when dragged across the ground on return.
Notes: Light attacks apply 25 slow each hit of the 5-hit combo, inflicts increased Shatter damage with the finishing blow. Light attacks have a fairly short range, but you can move while doing the combo. The heavy attack can lodge into enemies, inflicting 'precision' hits and preventing them from moving outside of its range. Enemies caught in the returning path of a heavy attack take damage and are Frozen. Implanting both kamas causes them to return slower, using a heavy attack while both kamas are implanted retracts them as well. Doing a light attack in the air will cause you to lunge at nearby enemies. Due to being a Roaming Super, it does not benefit from Whisper of Durance. Lasts for 30 seconds if you for some reason do nothing, light attacks take no energy, heavy attacks remove 4 seconds. If you have an implanted heavy attack active at the end of the super, it is immediately pulled in. While a heavy attack is implanted your movement is slowed and restricted to the range of the heavy attack. Empowerment stacks to 5, hits give 1 stack, kills give 3, and the final hit of the combo gives 5 stacks if it kills, 3 on hit. The combo persists for 4 seconds of not using light attacks.
____________
Exotic armors
Titan: Mammoth Tusks (Helmet.)
Creates a trench in the center of your Ice Shelf, allies inside this trench are given Weapons of Dark and a Stasis Shard Overshield. Enemies inside the trench are greatly Slowed.
Warlock: Coldfeeder's Bracer (Arms)
While Hailstorm is active, your melee and grenade can be consumed to cause a cascade of Stasis Crystals to rain down without costing Hailstorm duration.
(Allows you to eat your grenade and/or melee to make Hailstorm drop a burst of 5 Stasis Crystals instantly without using up Hailstorm duration.)
Hunter: Eramis' Regret (Chestpiece with House of Devils symbol.)
Collecting Stasis Shards cause Fissure and Flury to gain empowerment. Your light attack can be used faster while empowered.
(Empowered light attacks are 50% faster. Each Stasis Shard counts as 1 hit from a light attack. Each empowered light attack costs 1 empowerment)
Please fix Squall's short-term memory loss.

2023.06.05 01:26 Blu_Bewwiz_Iciclepop Wriothesley Concept
__Wriothesley__ __Talents__
Basic Attack: Frostfang Coldsteel -
- Normal: Performs up to 4 consecutive strikes.
- Charged: Drains Stamina over time to perform continuous slashes. At the end of the sequence, performs a more powerful slash.
- Plunge: Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE damage upon impact.
Skill: Icebound Incarceration (Cooldown 10 sec)]: Shoots chains of ice ahead that jump between enemies, dealing Cryo damage and applying the Rimelock Restraint status to enemies hit for 4 seconds. Can hit each enemy once.
Rimelock Restraint:
- Decreases Cryo Resistance.
- When reapplied, it will refresh and Reinforce the effect, adding an additional X% reduction which can stack up to 5 times.
Burst: Glacial Reckoning]: Pulls in enemies chained by Rimelock Restraint and smashes down an attack, dealing AoE Cryo damage before entering the Diamond Detainer state for 11 seconds.
Diamond Detainer:
- Wriothesley will strike with hardened chains of ice, converting his Normal and Charged Attacks to Cryo damage.
- Applies the Rimelock Restraint status on Critical Hits.
- Unable to use Plunging Attacks.
The Diamond Detainer state will be cleared when Wriothesley leaves the field.
Passive 1: Custodial Overseer]: Wriothesley’s Normal Attacks deal 7% increased damage for each enemy chained by Rimelock Restraint. The maximum damage increase this way is 28%.
Passive 2: Inescapable Penalty]: While Wriothesley is in the Diamond Detainer state, his Attack Speed increases by 4% when scoring a Critical Hit. This effect can stack up to 6 times.
Special Passive: Permafrost Prison]: When Wriothesley triggers the Shatter reaction, it deals 30% increased damage and Freeze will not be removed. (Not sure whether to actually have this passive, somewhat depends on stuff like whether or not his burst would deal blunt damage)
Passive 3: Confiscated Contraband]: Has a 25% chance to recover some of the materials used when crafting Character and Weapon Materials.
__Constellations__
C1: Condemnation: The Gates to Hell]: After attacking enemies with Icebound Incarceration, increase Wriothesley’s Attack by 20% for 6 seconds, with an additional 5% for each enemy hit up to an extra 20%.
C2: Custody: The Price for Your Sins]: The maximum stacks that Rimelock Restraint can be Reinforced is increased to 10. Additionally, Icebound Incarceration will apply 4 extra stacks of Reinforcement on hit.
C3: Security: Eternal Damnation]: Level of the Elemental Skill is increased by 3.
C4: Dungeon: Netherworld of Transgressions]: While Wriothesley is in the Diamond Detainer state, enemies have 20% reduced Defence. For 6 seconds after the Diamond Detainer state ends, enemies have 10% reduced Defence.
C5: Discipline: Procedures of the Purgatory]: Level of the Elemental Burst is increased by 3.
C6: Warden: Lord of the Labyrinth]: While Wriothesley is in the Diamond Detainer state, his Critical Rate and Critical Damage are increased by 8% and 40% respectively.Additionally, while under the Diamond Detainer state, scoring a Critical Hit will increase his Critical Damage further by 8% up to an extra 32%, while scoring a non-Critical Hit will reset this extra bonus to 0%.

2023.06.05 01:14 D4DerpJockey DanganDJ Second 2 Chapters
Chapter 3: The Great Outdoors:
This chapter occurs outside, on the academy grounds and in a nearby forest. It is discovered that an invisible electric fence surrounds the school grounds, as well as other unseen defense mechanisms.
The students decide to have a fun evening around a campfire, and Rinku uses her Talent to forage for food. Maho uses hers to cook it. Unfortunately, the mushrooms Rinku found caused everyone to hallucinate their deepest and most personal fear the entire night.
Aoi’s body is found the next morning, barely clinging to life. And Ibuki’s charred corpse is beside the invisible electric fence.
Noa was the killer, the mushrooms awakening her Nozomi side and compelling her to purge the Ugly in the name of protecting the Cute. She chose Aoi at first because of Aoi’s masculine appearance, but as the night went on, she began to realize that the ugliness she really wanted to destroy was the ugliness that existed inside of people.
That was what led her to attack Ibuki, whom she blamed for Saki’s death. And then Monochio, as she spent the rest of the night building an EMP blaster that she hoped would destroy the headcatster. Noa also rigged the hospital with a concoction of toxic gas in the hopes of killing the entire class, including herself, once they all sought medical attention the next morning.
But because Monochio didn’t want the game to end so abruptly, it triggered the body discovery announcement for Ibuki even though no one had found her body. It is also revealed that Noa’s Talent helped her “fake” her way through her hallucinations, and allowed her to figure out what other people’s hallucinations were based on how they were acting.
Her execution is "All The World’s A Stage" and starts with her onstage, tied up like a human puppet, face sewn into a smile. The execution opens with three witches singing around a bubbling cauldron. Each one is a version of Noa, past, present, and future, growing increasingly ugly.
Noa is shoved into the boiling pot and the heat shoots her back out onto a balcony so tall that the audience of Monochios can only see her feet. A second later, though, the balcony cracks beneath her feet and she plummets back to the stage, which is now engulfed in battle (Capulets vs Montagues).
Noa is somehow beheaded during the fight, head soaring through the air, only to be caught by her body which then performs a Hope/Despair version of Hamlet’s “To Be, or Not to Be”. At the very end, the ropes holding Noa up are cut and she collapses to the stage right as the lights go out.
One DR trope in this chapter is a fanservice scene. In this chapter, I would have M4 playing volleyball outside with the muscle trio. Despite Rika's Talent, she takes a clumsy fall that takes everyone else down with her and they all end up in suggestive poses.
This chapter also uses the crazy killer trope but circumvents the double death trope.
Chapter 4: Divided Worlds:
This motive takes from V3’s Necronomicon and has Monochio promise the students that if they can figure out how to combine technology and magic the right way, they can resurrect all their dead friends. The people on “Team Tech” (Maho, Muni, all of Peaky, Towa, Dalia, and Marika) explore the school’s VR lab and uncover more of their backstories.
The people on the “Heroes of History” (Rinku, Rei, Rika, Saori, Aoi, Hiiro, Tsubaki, and Miyu) explore the school’s anthropology lab and uncover a resurrection ritual using the legend of Izanami-no-Mikoto. She is the deity of both creation and death in Japanese mythology, as well as the Shinto mother goddess. Once all the clues are collected, everyone meets in the VR lab.
While half the team goes into the VR to talk to the recovered consciousnesses of their fallen friends, the other half summons Izanami, but a blackout occurs right in the middle of it. The students spend the night running and fighting through the darkness as Izanami is indeed summoned, but because it isn’t done properly, they bring back a vengeful version of her that can’t be reasoned with.
Aoi is the victim, found impaled by a spear and tied to a flagpole on the school roof with other sigils and symbols carved into her body. The killer was trying to frame Izanami, but the trial proves that Aoi’s killer was not Izanami. It was Dalia.
Aoi unintentionally spooked her during the night, and Dalia, who was already terrified of the supernatural, lashed out before she realized who she was talking to. Then, Dalia panicked again, unable to find the courage to admit what she did. That was when she got to work hiding Aoi’s body and tampering with the crime scene.
Her execution is "I Will Never Die" and involves her being chased through a dojo by the spirits and corpses of her fallen friends. Aoi is the last phantom Dalia confronts and she drags Dalia into the grave. One DR trope in this chapter is the Gentle Giant trope, as two of the tallest D4 girls star in this chapter.

2023.06.05 01:12 Juliaartz_ Are relief holes necessary?
I see many candle makers poking relief holes and then using a heat gun to fill them back up. I know this is for potential air pockets within a candle, but is it really necessary? If so, at what stage would I poke the relief holes? Once fully cured? Thanks!

2023.06.05 01:08 autobuzzfeedbot 25 "Cheating Death" Stories That Were So Intense, People Really, Really, Reaaaallly Wanted To Share Them
- "I messed up a jump skydiving. I was able to correct the situation and pull the pilot chute for my canopy, but I was very, very close to having my reserve go off. The reserves are generally reliable, but it’s still nothing I want to test. Landed fine and then got a very stern talking-to for pulling so low."
- "Just google 'Levey PCH,' then ask away…I’ll be very surprised if anyone can beat what happened to me. THANK WHOEVEWHATEVER you believe in for Apple, Scorpion, UCLA, and the LA County Fire Department and Sheriff's Department."
- "Minutes before it happened, I was under the Cypress structure that collapsed during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in California (which was a magnitude 6.9). I was traveling north underneath the double-layered structure and felt creepy and claustrophobic on the brightest day. I raced to get out, as I always did, because I hated being under it. After getting out, I felt like my tire had gone flat and started to weave around in my lane, then I noticed that everyone else was losing control and hitting their brakes too. That was the earthquake. I didn't find out until later about the collapse, and felt like I had been punched in the stomach. I'd never felt so close to death before."
- "I was rappelling off the top of the tallest building in Bangkok (200 meters, or 656 feet) as a promotional stunt. I was supposed to rappel down to the 10th floor, land on a small balcony, and then traverse over to another building. The wind shear off the building was enough to blow me 20–30 feet away from the side of the building. Picture a spider hanging by a thread in the wind. As I got close to the 10th floor, I noticed that my rope had been cut and no longer reached the balcony, let alone the ground. The rope was about 10 feet short of the landing. So, still blowing away from the side of the building, off and on I waited until I was just above the balcony and dropped the last several feet onto the deck. Super pissed but alive."
- "Going to school in San Francisco, I got off the bus to get cigarettes and a soda at a liquor store. I stopped at the trash can on the way out to open my cigarettes and soda and walked half a block up the street when a crane fell off the roof right where I'd been standing 30 seconds before. The crane operator was killed, and half a minute earlier, I would have been as well."
- "Although being an ironworker comes with its fair share of risk, as long as you don’t become too incompetent, things can be safe. But that is easier said than done, seeing as the days are long and the work is physically draining. One day, I was about 60 feet in the air rigging a beam to be lowered to the ground. I signaled the crane operator to 'cable up' (lift the beam), but the beam wasn’t budging. I decided to look down the beam to see what was wrong...BANG! Before I knew it, the beam broke free and came up at my face with about 2,000 pounds of force. It knocked off my hard hat and hit every edge of my safety glasses, missing the side of my face by a quarter inch. I thought I had died, it was so sudden. I should never have put myself in what we call 'the line of fire.' I’ll never forget how close my kids were to losing their father that day because I let my judgment slip. Still gives me goosebumps talking about it."
- "I got hit by a car and walked away with no injuries. The Sunday before final exams during my last semester of college, I went to the library at 6 a.m. to study. At 2 p.m., I needed a break and started walking back to my car. At an intersection, I stopped, made eye contact with the driver of a car at a stop sign, and started walking across the street on a crosswalk. The next thing I knew, I was up on the windshield of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. He hit the brakes, and I rolled off the hood of his car and landed on my feet. I was so freaked out that I told the guy I was fine and left. Later that afternoon, I went to the hospital to get checked out and had no injuries. The doctor told me to buy a lottery ticket on my way home because I was so lucky."
- "While I was doing the dishes, my hip bumped the dial on my stove, turning it to ignite, but I didn't notice, so the stove was leaking gas all night. In the morning, I could tell something smelled off, but I have a hard time smelling things, so I just figured it was some old cauliflower rice I had thrown out the night before. To deal with the smell, I lit not one, but two candles, one of which was right next to the stove. Later, after coming back from running errands, as soon as I opened the door, I felt instantly violently ill, like a migraine and the flu all at once. Probably 20 minutes later, I finally saw the knob on the stove and realized what was happening."
- "One time, I was watching TV in my lounge room and I was sitting on the floor eating. We have a really big TV and we had an earthquake, but I thought it was a train passing by. It wasn't. I ran out of the room as everything started to wobble, and the TV nearly fell on top of me."
- "I went to summer camp when I was 15, and for our last weekend activity, they took us to Martha’s Vineyard and rented us bikes. Now, I loved riding bikes in the park as a kid but had never ridden in the street. But since 'you never forget how to ride a bike,' I figured I could do it. I headed out and tried to go up a street that was very steep. I started to lose control of the bike, and I fell into the street in between a truck that was hauling a trailer (I fell in front of the trailer). I saw this huge wheel coming at me, and my leg was stuck from the fall. I screamed as hard as I could and hoped it wouldn’t kill me (others told me they heard it a few streets away). The driver luckily heard it and slammed on the brakes; I was scuffed up but otherwise fine. You can indeed forget how to ride a bike."
- "I got hit by a train. I was living and working at a college that has train tracks running through it and only a stop sign before you cross them at the vehicle intersection. You had to cross the tracks to leave campus. I was headed to the gym in July, and the windows were rolled up and the AC and radio were blasting. I’d crossed that crossing a thousand times, so I stopped a bit, passed the stop sign, and looked right, but the train was coming from the left. Its horn blew, but I panicked when I heard it, so I hit the accelerator but braked immediately. I was already on the tracks. It only hit my front end and dragged me about 200 feet down the tracks. I only had a broken rib, three cracked ribs, and a pretty gnarly cut on my finger. The people at the next crossing probably thought they saw someone die."
- "My last day of driver’s education class, we were just about back to school. We were all feeling pretty good because we’d passed our tests that day. I was in the rear driver’s seat and had a classmate driving, one next to me, and a teacher in the passenger seat. We went through a green light at LITERALLY the last intersection before school when a car blew through the red light going 55 mph and slammed into us on my side, just a few inches back from where I was sitting. It spun our car into the intersection and kept going! We were all concussed and had to be taken to the hospital, but that was it. When we went to retrieve my bags from the trunk of the wreckage at the salvage yard, the shop owner admitted he hadn’t answered my ringing phone because he didn't think we had survived, and didn’t want to break the news to everyone calling me. Two inches between me and being crushed alive. In driver’s ed!"
- "I was walking to class one day, and the shortest route went under a viaduct. It had been snowing and melting on and off for the past few days. The viaduct is about 100 feet high, and just as I was about to walk from under it and onto the pavement, a 6-foot icicle fell those 100 feet and smashed into the ground in front of me. Suffice to say, I took that as a sign not to go to my lecture and turned back home!"
- "I was asleep in the passenger seat of a car on a highway when we flipped going about 80 mph. We rolled a few times and landed in a ditch. Airbags did not go off, and I shattered the passenger-side window with my skull. I literally walked away from it and didn't go to an ER until a few hours later. I literally had a concussion and one teeny bruise on my right arm, but nothing else. The nurses told me that if I had been awake for the accident, my neck would have snapped and I'd have died immediately. Whenever I tell people, they're always stunned — imagine my reaction waking up to a missing side window and a crushed car and being fully functional! I feel lucky every day that I was asleep and still have my life."
- "There was one time my sister and I were driving down a long road with a huge cemetery. I thought it would be funny to hold my breath because people say if you don’t, the spirits of dead people will haunt you or something. When I held my breath, my sister slowed down to torture me. I was a little annoyed, but at the stop sign at the intersection, this car going really fast didn’t even bother to slow down. They even swerved into our lane, so my sister had to barely dodge. I swear, though, if my sister hadn't slowed down to torture me, we would have been in a bad wreck. Now I’m not annoyed that she did that, I’m lucky."
- "This isn't dramatic, but it's continued to impact my life on a daily basis. When I was 11, I was playing baseball with the rest of my gym class. We took a time-out to argue about who was batting next, and I stood behind home plate, staring into left field. Play resumed, and no one told me to move. The strongest guy in the class laid down a single...and hit me in his backswing...with the baseball bat...in the middle of my forehead. I suffered skull fractures and a brain bleed. To this day, I have anxiety driven by the traumatic brain injury. The neurologist said that the fact that he hit the ball saved my life. Had he swung and missed, I would have died."
- "I was in college and I had just finished my last class of the day. It was a short walk to my car that consisted of crossing a pedestrian crosswalk on the street separating the school from parking. On each side of the crosswalk were speed bumps so cars were forced to slow down. At this time of day, a good number of students were getting out of class, and a large herd of us started crossing the street at the crosswalk. There must have been 30 of us. I was stupidly looking down at my phone and was walking rather slowly. I didn’t realize that I was lagging behind. Everyone else was on the other side and I was still in the middle of the street. At the same moment, I noticed a freaking DUMP TRUCK whizzing by in front of me. It was probably 1–2 feet in front of me. Either he didn’t see me still crossing or he didn’t care. After I got to my car, all I could do was sit there in silence for a while and contemplate what could have just happened. Even as I write this, I shudder."
- "This is definitely not the craziest cheating-death story, but it was definitely scary. I was at a waterpark with my family, and I don’t do well with heat and stairs — something about the combination makes me faint. We went on a waterslide that uses tubes, and it was a long trek up. I apparently was so sick from heat exhaustion, I passed out as I was next in line and hit my head on the tube. If it weren’t for the tube, they aren't sure I’d be alive right now."
- "It was during Christmastime, and my mom, my little brother, and I all wanted to go look at Christmas lights near the middle school. There was a hill and then a lane where you would wait for the light to turn green and then you had to turn left. Well, the main light had turned red, so it was our turn to go, and thank god my mom checked before going, because if she hadn’t checked, a truck would have hit us, going like 60 mph, straight through the side of our car where my little brother was sitting."
- "I was 4 or 5, and we were living in Estes Park, Colorado. At that time, I was challenging myself to go closer and closer to a river they have there. I was caught by the current and would’ve run into several rocks and a waterwheel if it weren’t for my cousin, who reached down, grabbed my arm, and saved me."
- "I survived hitting an elk in the Canadian Rockies and going down a mountain 15 times end over end, stopping 20 feet short of a whitewater river. I gave myself first aid. Doctors said I would never walk normally again and I'd have brain damage. I sent one of them a picture of me with three gold medals around my neck."
- "In the fall of '15, I was riding my motorcycle to work on a foggy morning. A truck with an enclosed trailer ran a stop sign in front of me while I was driving on a 55 mph road. I was unable to stop, ran into the trailer, and was pinned underneath the trailer, being crushed to death. A farmer was on his dirt bike behind the truck going to meet another farmer for coffee who lived on the corner of the intersection. Once he realized I was pinned, he ran to get his friend and his friend's skid-steer loader. They then used the skid loader to lift the trailer off of me and began CPR. Luckily, right as they started, a sheriff's deputy arrived on scene and took over. I owe my life to those two farmers. If they hadn't acted, I would have died underneath the trailer, as there would have been no way for first responders to lift it off of me (it had thousands of pounds of equipment in it) in time."
- "I've always been handy with tools and taught myself how to do things; I've been changing flat tires for anyone who'll let me. However, one day when I was about 18 years old, my buddy came over to chill, and he had his dad's brand-new Tacoma. So we chilled for a couple of hours, and when it was time for him to leave, we noticed that his front tire was flat, so naturally, I volunteered to change it (no prior experience with independent suspensions). I placed the jack on the frame and started to go at it — lifted the car enough to take the flat out. But when the fully inflated wheel was fitted, it didn't have clearance. My first thought was to get a second jack. Half my body was underneath the car, putting the jack in, when I heard a creek, and the next thing I knew, the car slipped. The car ended up with the front end touching the ground, and I got a big scrape mark on my shoulder. To this day, I don't know how or why I did not die under that Tacoma."
- "I lived alone with my dog. There was a hole in my gas heater, so it was leaking carbon monoxide, but of course I didn't know that at the time. My dog woke me up one morning, barking and whining, and I thought she had to go out to potty. When I sat up in bed, I got so dizzy and thought I would throw up. I ended up passing out twice, once hitting my head on the bathroom cabinet, very close to my temple, and once hitting my chin on the toilet seat. I called my boss — the only phone number I remembered at the time. (This was before cellphones.) She called 911 and they came to get me. They figured out I had carbon monoxide poisoning, and I was in the ER for eight hours that day. The doctor told that when blood gases are at a certain amount, the victim goes into a coma, without fail. Mine were more than double whatever that number was. He said no matter how much my dog was barking, I should not have woken up."
- Finally, "I was at the beach with several of my friends, my sister, and my mom. Mom was sitting on the beach watching us. We were around 11–14, I believe, but no younger than 9. Kind of out of nowhere, we started getting sucked under the water in a rip current. I was being sucked under the pier and slammed my face into the barnacles. We were screaming for help, but at first, no one came. As I was being dragged under the water and coming up screaming for help, I could see people just staring and could hear my friends also screaming for help. Finally, people started jumping into the water to save us, including my mom. She jumped in and instantly got sucked into the current but managed to grab one of my friends. She used her body to shield him from the razor-sharp barnacles."

2023.06.05 01:04 North-Message4754 Our sleepy town has a secret that can't be revealed. [PART 1]
Please note that names have been changed for the sake of anonymity, as have also some events for the sake of simplicity and to help you understand the personalities.
Our city, once a humble town nestled in the embrace of the Andes Mountains, has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years. Evolving into a bustling capital and a prominent city within our country, it now stands as a symbol of progress and growth. Yet, beneath its surface of modernity and development, lies a hidden truth, a dark side that lurks in the shadows, concealed from the eyes of the uninitiated. It is a truth woven into the fabric of our city's history, whispered in tales of terror, and attributed to the elusive and enigmatic presence known as the "Twilight Menace." While outsiders may dismiss it as mere legend or the machinations of a criminal underworld, we, the locals, know better. We live in perpetual fear of this unseen terror that haunts our city.
And now, I find myself compelled to share this story with you, even as the memetic hazard surrounding the Twilight Menace threatens to erode my sense of reason. It is as if I am speaking to an inanimate object rather than a person, yet something within me tells me that you, a foreigner, possess the curiosity and open-mindedness necessary to understand and appreciate the fascinating and eerie history of our city.
Let me provide you with some much-needed context. The Twilight Menace is a term we have assigned to a group of nocturnal predators that have plagued our city for generations. They consist of ten distinct subspecies, each possessing its own unique characteristics and hunting techniques. Allow me to shed light on a few of them.
First among them are the Shadow Stalkers. These humanoid creatures boast pale or dark skin, sharp features, and unnaturally elongated limbs. Strikingly, they lack eyes, relying instead on their heightened sense of smell and acute hearing to track their unsuspecting prey. Like all members of the Twilight Menace, they are vaporized upon exposure to sunlight. Shadow Stalkers move with eerie silence within the shadows, patiently observing their targets for hours, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. It is worth noting that the largest known hunting party of Shadow Stalkers comprised a mere four members, prompting them to refrain from attacking when faced with a numerical advantage or disadvantage. The only known defense against them is to gather in groups of five or more, for it seems that their hunting instincts are deterred by such a formidable force.
Next, we encounter the Night Terrors, smaller and more agile than their Shadow Stalker counterparts. These creatures are adorned with fur as dark as the night itself, possessing razor-sharp jaws, claws, and piercing, luminescent eyes that aid their vision in the darkest of environs. What sets them apart is their uncanny ability to create illusions, disorienting their prey and rendering them vulnerable to capture. Similar to their brethren, they dissipate into nothingness upon exposure to sunlight. Unlike the Shadow Stalkers, however, the Night Terrors exhibit no hesitation in attacking their victims even when faced with a numerical disadvantage.
Another subspecies of the Twilight Menace is the Dread Fiends, hulking creatures draped in dark fur and bearing piercing yellow eyes that emit an otherworldly glow. They possess unmatched speed and move through the darkness with uncanny silence, often launching surprise attacks from behind. Their powerful jaws and claws allow them to mercilessly rend their victims apart, reveling in sadistic pleasure as they toy with their prey before finally delivering the fatal blow.
We must also contend with the Blood Mist Creatures, amorphous blobs of mist capable of shape-shifting at will. These entities often assume the form of a menacing, misty cloud, complete with glowing red eyes that flicker ominously. Their method of attack involves engulfing their prey in their ethereal mist, suffocating them while simultaneously absorbing their life-giving blood.
The ranks of the Twilight Menace also include the Silent Horrors, tall and gaunt figures reminiscent of the Shadow Stalkers. They possess long, spindly limbs and an eerie absence of facial features. Swift and soundless in their movements, they strike from the shadows, relying on their ability to induce paralyzing fear within their victims before delivering the final, fatal blow.
Another formidable adversary is the Dark Whispers, small and ghostly creatures resembling a swirling black mist adorned with gleaming green eyes. These elusive entities can effortlessly traverse through walls and floors, making them virtually impossible to evade. With their insidious whispers, they sow seeds of madness in the minds of their victims, driving them to the brink of insanity before ultimately sealing their fate.
The Graveyard Ghosts, skeletal apparitions with glowing red eyes, haunt the resting places of the deceased, emerging from the ground to assail unsuspecting victims. Their unique ability to phase through solid objects grants them an advantage in their pursuit of prey.
Among the Twilight Menace, we also encounter the Moon Howlers, creatures reminiscent of wolves with their black fur and hauntingly radiant blue eyes. These formidable hunters operate in packs, utilizing their sharp teeth and claws to bring down their chosen targets. Their haunting howls under the moonlight have a paralyzing effect, rendering their victims immobile with fear and vulnerability. The Moon Howlers are known to encircle their prey, amplifying the terror and panic experienced before delivering the final, fatal strike.
No discussion of the Twilight Menace would be complete without mentioning the Soul Snatchers, small and elusive creatures cloaked in shadows, their purple eyes glowing with an unholy light. Possessing an ethereal nature, they can effortlessly phase through walls and floors, rendering physical barriers futile. The Soul Snatchers are infamous for their ability to steal the very souls of their victims, leaving behind only empty shells of once vibrant beings.
Lastly, we have the Phantom Hunters, tall and ethereal figures that appear ghostlike, their piercing white eyes glowing with an otherworldly radiance. Often found in areas burdened by great tragedy or loss, these relentless hunters show no mercy to their prey. With the ability to pass through solid objects, they haunt their victims relentlessly, seizing control of their very essence before ultimately snuffing out their lives.
The abilities possessed by these entities may indeed instill terror and a sense of hopelessness. It may appear as though there is no conceivable way to counter their menace. However, there exists a method to confront and challenge them, albeit one that is only accessible to a chosen few. Fortunately, I am among the privileged individuals bestowed with this ability. My means of defense manifests in the form of a sword, an instrument of freezing cold capable of temporarily banishing these entities back to their home realm, known as the twilight lands.
You may wonder about the fate of those who lack the means to defend themselves. Do they inevitably succumb to the Twilight Menace? This is where the second part of the legend takes hold. We possess a protector, a human chosen from the multitude, tasked with wielding the fabled sword of Nott. Despite its connotation in certain languages, the sword stands as a potent tool bestowed upon the most loyal subject of the sun god, harnessing the very power of the sun itself. Any adversary unfortunate enough to cross paths with this radiant weapon is instantly consumed by its searing light, vanishing into oblivion. This chosen protector assumes the mantle of "Phantome."
The enigmatic Phantome remains veiled in mystery, an elusive figure who seemingly possesses the ability to be present in multiple locations simultaneously. They are the sole individuals granted permission to traverse the realm of the Twilight Menace, engaging in communication with these ethereal beings. Although no one has ever laid eyes upon Phantome, the blinding brilliance of the sword's collision with the enemy stands as a testament to their unwavering presence and devotion.
Let me introduce myself properly. My name is Sean van Delphi, and I'm no ordinary teenager. At just 15 years old, I have already faced more dangers and challenges than most adults. As a monster hunter, it's my job to protect the city from supernatural threats that lurk in the shadows. But that's not all there is to my life. When I'm not fighting monsters, I'm just a regular high school student. I attend New Lands, a private school located near my home. To get there, I ride my trusty electric bicycle - I mean, why waste energy on pedaling when I can conserve it for hunting down creatures of the night?
My house may be small, but it's my home. It was built when this area was still rural, but over time it has become a suburban haven, located just outside the bustling capital city. And believe me, when I say that what I'm about to tell you might sound unbelievable, I really mean it. But I need you to trust me, because what I'm about to share is the truth - and the truth can be stranger than fiction.
I live with the monsters I hunt.
My last name is not commonly found in this part of the world, with its European roots (until I experienced the supernatural firsthand, I was skeptical of the legends). My parents, a Dutch father and a Polish mother, chose this small Andean city as the place to start their new life together, and I was born shortly after their arrival. While I wish I could say more about them, my memories of my parents are few, but I do know that they loved me dearly and sacrificed everything for me. Their loss is one of the main reasons why I hunt monsters.
After my parents' death, I was left alone in the world. I spent at least a year wandering the city like a vagabond before stumbling upon my new family: a group of Phantom Hunters. They were searching for survivors of an explosion that had occurred in a nearby restaurant and, in my desperation, I was prepared to become possessed by a supernatural entity. Instead, they took me in and brought me to their home. I still don't understand why they were willing to take such a risk on a stranger, but I am eternally grateful for their kindness and generosity.
With the context out of the way, I’ll tell you my story and how it changed this city forever. It was a normal day, as normal as it can get in this city. I was at school, bored out of my mind, the teacher was giving a lecture about Figurative Language. I guess it was important to learn English but the way the teacher spoke about it just made me want to sleep. I yawned, then nudged my friend Mike to keep him awake. If I was going to be tormented by idioms, he was going to be tormented by metaphors and similes too. I glanced at the clock, it read 1:15 p.m.. Only 5 more minutes until recess, I thought, you just need to stay awake for 5 more minutes Sean. I then glanced at the schedule, I groaned, it was a monday, which meant we had English, recess and then English again. I wanted to kill myself, I wouldn’t be able to last those last 40 minutes. Time ticked by extremely slowly, I swear I nodded off at least 15 times before the bell rang, indicating that recess had started.
As I did every day, I headed to the nearest court, where all my friends were, to play volleyball. Today, however, the teacher denied us a ball, so we were left on our own trying to find what to do. I remember myself thinking Oh god, first English class and then this while I made my way to the parking lot, where there are 2 basketball courts. On the way, I passed through some young ones playing soccer. I figured I had nothing else to do so I took a seat at the edge of the field and watched the game unfold. I knew some of the people that were playing because my adoptive… foster brother was their age and up until some years ago he had been in the same school as me, that was until he decided to change to his old school. Oh, sorry I forgot, over the years, my family has adopted 2 other people, my brother (not related by blood) who is 12 years old, and my little sister (also not related by blood) who just turned 5 last week.
As I was saying, I had just taken a seat to admire the game when I was approached by 3 girls, they seemed the same age as my brother so I dismissed it as probably some of his friends coming to ask me “Oh, are you Jean’s older brother?”. I won’t disclose a lot of details about this conversation because I don’t really remember it that much, but I remember the start of the conversation because it was hilarious.
“Hi! Do you know she likes you?” the girl to the left, she was of average height, had a slightly tanned skin tone and wore glasses, greeted me cheerfully at the end of her dialogue she pointed to the one in the middle, a little bit taller than the first had a pale skin tone and a dark brown hair, the latter put a hand on the girl’s mouth only to recoil with an “EWWW”; they started bickering and wouldn’t calm down for at least five minutes.
“I’m sorry for my friends’ behavior,” The third girl interrupted, by far the tallest of them, standing just five or six inches shorter than me, even though I’m a good 5’9”, she had the appearance of a foreigner, I didn’t know many locals who were blonde with blue eyes, she spoke with a slightly off tone and when I looked at her in the eyes, I felt like my fight or flight instinct was kicking in, panic bells rang off inside my head, but not because I was talking to someone I liked, I didn’t, this feeling… I had only felt this feeling when my life was in imminent danger, like if I was being followed by a shadow stalker. “Name’s Zeph” It took me a moment to react, “Sean”. “Good to meet you” she said, and then proceeded to introduce her still bickering friends. “She’s Holly” she said as she pointed to the one in the middle, “and she is Sam” she pointed to the one on the left. The conversation that ensued in something I can’t recall, the only thing I remember is feeling weary all the time. There was this aura of calmness emanating from Zeph, it was so calm that it bothered me, like how a silent horror would attack its prey.
After the conversation, I left the soccer field and headed to the basketball court where Mike and the others were. I quickly told them what had happened, and Mike was ecstatic. “You’ve got yourself a girlfriend, Sean!” he said, with a huge grin on his face. “Shut up, Mike, I don’t even know if she likes me like that,” I replied, rolling my eyes. We started playing basketball, and I couldn’t stop thinking about Zeph. There was something strange about her, something that made me feel uneasy.
The bell rang, indicating that recess was over, and we headed back to class. I couldn’t focus on the lecture, my mind kept wandering back to Zeph. I decided to look her up on social media, and to my surprise, I found her profile easily. I scrolled through her pictures, trying to learn more about her. There were pictures of her at the beach, pictures of her with her friends, and even pictures of her playing guitar. I couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was something off about her, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.
The next day passed by slowly, and as soon as the bell rang, indicating that classes were over, I rushed home. I went straight to my room, turned on my computer, and started researching. I spent hours reading about different cultures, different religions, and different beliefs. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with Zeph, but I knew that there was something.
Days passed, and I couldn’t get Zeph out of my head. I tried talking to her, but every time I did, I felt the same uneasiness that I felt the first time we talked. I decided to talk to my parents about her, but they didn’t seem to know anything about her. I tried talking to my friends, but they just laughed at me, thinking it was some sort of lame excuse to try to throw them off of bothering me with her. Then, one day out of the blue, the group of three decided that I was their perfect victim to their bickering.
As I waited for my parents to come and pick me up from school, I couldn't shake off the uneasy feeling that crept up on me. My bicycle had been totaled in an earlier fight, and I didn't feel comfortable walking, especially in the areas where darkness lingered, tempting unsuspecting victims into traps. Ignoring the ominous atmosphere, I tried to focus on something else, anything else.
"Hey!" Suddenly, I felt someone grab my arm, sending shivers down my spine. Sensitivity to touch was a part of my condition, and physical contact with others often made me feel claustrophobic. I turned to see who had grabbed me and found myself face to face with Holly. The proximity made me jump, and I knew I had to keep my guard up in case of a fight.
As I tried to compose myself, I felt something move behind me. I tried to turn around, but when I did, there was nothing there. Dread filled me, and I debated whether to draw my sword or not. In the end, I decided against it.
I turned my attention back to Holly, only to be met by Zeph, who appeared out of nowhere and scared me out of my wits. The uneasy feeling in my gut grew stronger, and I couldn't help but wonder what kind of trouble I had gotten myself into.
Out of the shadows emerged Sam, whom I hadn't noticed before. My gut feeling intensified as I looked around, trying to find a way to escape. I was trapped, backed against a tree and surrounded by a group of wild 12-year-olds.
"How are you doing?" Sam grinned, her glasses reflecting the sun, hiding her eyes. I searched for a way out and saw Holly standing arrogantly in front of me, while Zeph was on my right. As soon as I met Zeph's gaze, I expected to feel a sense of dread, but instead, I felt nothing.
“Hey, don’t be rude. Sam asked you a question,” Holly said, stepping closer to me. I could feel her breath on my face.
“I’m fine,” I managed to say, trying to keep my voice steady. “Just waiting for my parents.”
“Oh, we know,” Zeph said, stepping closer to me as well. “We just wanted to chat. You know, get to know each other better.”
I swallowed hard, feeling like a trapped animal. “I really need to go. My parents are waiting.”
“Oh, come on,” Sam said, moving closer to me too. “We’re not going to hurt you.”
But I knew better. These kids were trouble, and I had a feeling that they were up to no good. I looked around, trying to find an escape route, but I was surrounded.
Just as I was about to panic, I heard the sound of a car pulling up. Relief washed over me as I saw my parents getting out of the car. The group of kids scattered, disappearing into the shadows like they had never been there
I quickly walked towards my parents, feeling safe now that they were there. As we drove away, I couldn't help but wonder what kind of trouble those kids would get into next. And I made a mental note to avoid them at all costs in the future.
I got into the car, my dad was there, the vehicle was dark, so his shining white eyes were so easily found. “Who are those people that were talking with you” He said, his speech a mix of natural sounds and low screeches, it was the Twilight Lang, their form of speech I had learnt through the years.
“They are some weird friends” I answered him, shuddering, then added “Thanks for saving me there, you were just on time”
I don’t know if he knew something was off or he was just suspicious of something but he looked directly at me through the rearview mirror, his pale face a mix of worry and relief.
“I’m glad to be of help, as always” We didn’t speak more during the return trip, he left me to wonder what my fate would’ve been if he hadn’t shown up just then.
As we arrived home, I went straight to my room, feeling exhausted and relieved at the same time. I lay on my bed, thinking about the events that had just occurred. I knew I had to be more careful in the future and avoid getting into situations like that.
But the nagging feeling in my gut wouldn't go away. I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to the encounter than what I had seen. I wondered why those kids had targeted me, and what they had wanted from me.
I went to school the next day, still feeling a bit uneasy after the encounter with the group of kids. As I walked through the halls, I caught glimpses of the girls from the day before. It was strange, but I didn't feel the same sense of dread that I had before. In fact, Zeph seemed different somehow, as if her aura of calmness had suddenly disappeared, at least for me.
As the day went on, I tried to avoid them as much as possible. I didn't want to get involved with them again, especially after what had happened the day before. However, they seemed to be everywhere, like they were purposely trying to cross paths with me.
At lunchtime, I sat alone in the cafeteria, trying to eat my sandwich in peace. But soon enough, Holly and Sam appeared at my table, uninvited.
"Hey there," Holly said, smirking at me. "Mind if we join you?"
I didn't really have a choice, so I just shrugged and nodded. They sat down across from me, and I couldn't help but feel uneasy.
"So" Holly said, looking expectantly at me. She didn't say anything more so silence reigned over our table.
"So?" I asked, eager to break the muteness in the air
Holly leaned forward, a wicked glint in her eye. "We were just wondering if you've changed your mind yet. About joining our group, I mean."
I shook my head, they hadn’t asked me anything before, but I wasn’t going to join their group even if I wanted to die. "No, I haven't changed my mind. I don't think I want to be a part of your group."
Holly's smile faded, and her expression turned cold. "Well, that's too bad. We could've had some fun together."
I tried not to let her words affect me, but I couldn't help feeling a little scared. What did she mean by "fun"? And why did they seem so fixated on me?
The rest of lunch was uncomfortable, and I couldn't wait to leave the cafeteria. As I walked down the hallway, I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around and saw Zeph walking towards me.
"Hey," she said, her voice soft and hesitant. "Can we talk?"
I was surprised by her sudden change in demeanor, but I nodded anyway. We walked to an empty classroom and sat down at a desk.
"I just wanted to apologize," Zeph said, looking down at her hands. "For what happened yesterday. We didn't mean to scare you like that."
I wasn't sure if I believed her, but I appreciated the apology nonetheless. "Thanks," I said, still feeling wary.
Zeph looked up at me, her eyes searching mine. "I know Holly and Sam can be a bit intense sometimes. But they're not all bad. We just...we have our own way of having fun, you know?"
I raised an eyebrow. "What kind of fun?"
Zeph hesitated for a moment before speaking. "It's hard to explain. We just like to do things that are a little...different. Things that other people might not understand."
I couldn't help but feel a little intrigued. "Like what?"
Zeph smiled, seeming to relax a little. "Well, for example, we like to explore abandoned buildings. Or go on night hikes in the woods. Stuff like that."
I wasn't sure how to respond. On one hand, it sounded kind of exciting. On the other hand, it also sounded kind of dangerous.
Zeph must have sensed my hesitation because she quickly added, "But of course, we only do those things when it's safe. We're not stupid or anything."
I nodded, still not completely convinced. "I don't know, it just seems kind of risky."
Zeph shrugged. "It's not for everyone, I guess. But if you ever change your mind, you're always welcome to come along."
With that, our conversation ended, and we left the classroom. As I walked away, I couldn't help but think about what she had said. Maybe there was more to these girls than I had originally thought.
Oh how correct I was.

2023.06.05 01:01 trashthemoon In-laws Ruined Wedding
Hi,
I was so hopeful I would never have to post here, but here we go.
Background: My husband and I recently bought a small cabin to retrofit into a tiny home for us. His grandma graciously let us place it on an unused part of the property aonth before the wedding. Husband and her had an agreement that following the wedding, we would be taking over all bills and maintenance cost, both on the property and for her personal home.
I also have an extensive background in event management.
Additionally over the course of our engagement his family has been purposefully rude, (they told him this to his face) and made multiple racist comments toward me and my family (I am half black, and my adoptive family is native).
Event- We had a split wedding. Our ceremony was smaller at a location incredibly meaningful for me, and a reception that was much larger with his extended family at a spot very meaningful for him.
On our wedding day we hadew a predictably stressful morning, and a beautiful ceremony.
Following the ceremony we had to change a flat tire on our car, and joked that it meant good luck for us.
Spoiler, it did not.
We arrived to the reception hall late for final set up due to the car issue, and immediately set to work. At one point, husband left to get an extension cord. A few minutes later, theajority of his family walk into the doors, forty minutes before start time.
Note: I had made it clear I did not want individuals in the hall prior to the start time.
Immediately I walked over, said, "Hi. If you're not here for set up than we can't have you here yet," and walked away.
Was it a little rude? Sure. Was I a stressed out bride trying to setup a good reception? Absolutely.
Immediately SIL1 walked over to where I was, and told me that I was extraordinary rude to his grandmother and family by not allowing them in so early. Additionally, grievances with the guest list/ceremony/and list of events was angrily and loudly told to me.
Following, after an immediately heated exchange, I walked over to his granola to apologize for any tone I might have had. To which she loudly and angrily denied, and said not only had she "never been treated as poorly in her life," but that she was leaving immediately and I was not allowed back on her property.
To which I responded angrily, saying that it was my reception and it was "fucking ridiculous" that we couldn't do this tomorrow. I turned around to see my husband there, told him to handle his family, and walked out.
His family then followed me outside and for the next three hours berated both me and my husband for everything from the cabin on his grandmother's land, the guest list, my religion, and the biggest one, not respecting his grandmother enough.
They said that we should've given her full control of the guest list, let her dictate the timeline and location of the ceremony, and that we take advantage of her. How do we take advantage? She will offer to do something, i.e. make food, take your plate, ect. Small things. Things, we learned the night of our wedding, that she complained to the family as her having to care for us. She also told them that she had been paying our bills and expenses for months. She has not, as we have only been on the property for 4 weeks at this point. Additionally we provide gas money and contributed to groceries.
Long story short, the reception did not happen. Instead we were separated and individually yelled at the entire night, with the crux being me "not being family first enough to marry him" because I will not blindly bow to his grandmother. Additionally they think that any time he has disagreed with or disliked something the extended family did, it was me pulling the strings.
My husband is an army vet, a firefighter, a former EMT, ect. He is a grown man and I certainly can not control what he does.
This has lead to an immediate NC with me and the entire family, and he is very LC with them. He has not spoken to his parents, aunt's, uncles, or grandmother since the wedding.
I'm distraught, because he had looked forward to his wedding his entire life, only to see it blown up. And I feel hopeless that I can't do more to help, as it's his family and his responsibility to take charge.
Any advice moving forward as we handle the downfall of this?

2023.06.05 00:57 HammyKA Trying to fix a tiny door ding dent
| My car got door dinged in the parking lot on my graduation day, I was in the car when it got hit and the dude claimed the dent was there before he hit, I bought this car not even a month ago. He refused to give me insurance info and the police didn’t do anything about it cuz there was “no malicious intent”. So now my only option is to DIY fix it and I looked up how to do it on google but im not sure what to trust, heating it up with a blow dryer and blowing compressed air on it sounds like it might damage it even more. submitted by HammyKA to Autobody [link] [comments] |

Hi my vents for ac and heat are located on the ceiling. That being said does it really make any difference if I leave my ceiling fan on the winter setting because won’t it blow the cold air down either way?

2023.06.05 00:32 jess__89 98.4kgs getting there slowly
Whoooohooo sw112kg cw98.5kg 34f, 63 days since the sleeve and iv just past the long and hopeless 2 and a half week stall, still don't understand stand the full filling as I dont get any pain in the chest but I do get this fill of "JUDT STOP EATING" before it hurts so I'm guessing that's my full filling and I'm also guessing that I haven't had the whole over eating filling bue to not getting any pain. I'm still really bad at getting my 70g's of protein and well I'm not getting my liquid goals to tell you the truth. But I'm also hating this filling of always being hungry every few hours and then I fill like it's a waste of time eating as I just have a few mouthfuls of food and I'm done so I drink alot of milk as that fills me I have been eating pork lately for dinner with a bit of salad, I make sure the pork is the size of my palm and then the salad is also the same size. I can NOT eat any more eggs I think if I see another egg I'll kill a chicken.. trying to get in to a routine of eating but somedays are just so full on or the family isn't hungry when I am and it's just hard to stick too. I'm going to start packing food for the day in a container and pick from that when I'm hungry as that will help for when I'm on the road out and about. But then I just don't know what to put in there I never got in to the pre prep of food or cook in bulk and freeze and my family won't eat re heated food. Any ideas on what I can pack for a day of eating on the go and not fill like I'm a robot eating the same shit every day.

2023.06.05 00:19 halfbakedkornflake [General] after 3+ years & ~$13,000 spent, its almost complete! What do you think of my setup? + list of issues I had to troubleshoot.
| Hi growers! This has been one hell of a project which took a lot research, work and trial-and-error; but I'm so happy to announce that its nearing completion! Sorry about the crappy video quality and the space not being totally clean/organized, I took it to show a friend an update but then decided to post Some details: • The tomato cage looking thing is a VUC sterilizer • flow hood & class-2 biosafey cabinet (air curtain in the lab. • Two extra thick drum sterilizers • 5000lbs of USDA organic substrates: Amish hardwood sawdust pellets (so its not contaminated with bar oil), organic soy hull pellets, high protein rye and wheat bran. • Lights were custom made to the average preference of color and wavelength between oysters and lions mane. • The incubation room is large enough to hold for the fruiting room, shock chamber and lab, because the lab is set up to be a second fruiting room when im ready to expand. • I have a bunch of metal shelves, but am currently in the process of painting them because they aren't high-quality stainless and will rust. • Everything is now on electronic controllers Heres a list of issues I came across and how I adressed them: - Flooding - I've been through 5 different float valves for the centrifugal humidifier due to flooding countless times (I also have another one as a backup, and a pond-fogger tub for the incubation even though it doesn't need it). I have also flooded the 55gal drum a few times and been through 2 float valves on it. I learned to clean them regularly, and will install a $5000 whole house filter over the summer. I also installed overflow hoses running the the drains.
- Mold - I started with untreated wood shelving and special types of stain, but it molded. I then tried special types of paint but it continued to mold, so I decided to replace it with metal shelves. I also used flex-seal paint to cover the tyvek tape joining the plastic wall to the floor, thinking itd stop water from getting under the tape; but it held mold so I recently redid all of that (I still need to redo the celing).
- Humidity - I first had the drum get up to 240 degrees and made a steam trap for it, but learned that setting it to run between 204-209 (before boiling) reduced it a ton, then I didn't need the steam trap anymore. I had an engineer friend help build the controller for it because it was getting too hot and needed another heat sink.
- leaking - The drum sterilizer was very difficult to keep from leaking until I cut my own washers and found gaskets that hold up much longer. I also installed a camera to check on it when away.
Next projects: After a few other mundane tasks (removing the rest of the flexseal, repainting the fc floor) I'm going to build a couple dehumidifiers out of 55 gal drums to make mushroom jerky in bulk. I also need modify some deep freezers to store fresh fruits, and would like to make a simple setup to make bagging easier. Selling: My partner is responsible for all the selling, but we have plenty of people willing to buy regularly and some local restaurants willing to sign contracts for 5-15lbs per week once we get everything perfectly dialed in as far as quality and consistency. I have some other lecurative ideas to profit off this, but im sure where I'll start because making lions mane and other supplements. I'm also research, which is the reason for the biosafety cabinet (plus it was free and basically brand new). I'm working on a series of clinical studies looking at safety and efficacy of oyster mushrooms synergistic effect with common anti-hyperglycemic agents like metformin in partnership with a renowned medical university, but my goal is to study various forms of mycoremmediation and find/sell contam resilient cultures and possibly study unidentified or unstudied species. I have a microscope and general mushroom growing lab equipment, but plan to expand as I make money off this farm and my other businesses/side jobs. Please feel free to ask any questions, give recommendations or kill my pride with the harshest criticisms that you have! submitted by halfbakedkornflake to MushroomGrowers [link] [comments] |

2023.06.05 00:17 McBeano72 Anyone got an AC unit in preperation for the hotter weather this year?
Every summer when it gets red hot I tell myself I should buy one, I see them for about £350 on Amazon. The little mobile ones, you stick the heat exhaust out the window. It's gotta be more effective than my same shitty fan blowing hot air around.
But every year I end up grizzing through the summer and not bothering. I'm wondering whether to bite the bullet and get one in preperation. Anyone got any feedback with them?

2023.06.05 00:13 Kimikaze420 Advice for help
I'm posting on here to ask if anyone has any idea of how I can get out of my current situation. Living in Mobile Alabama everyone knows that the resources here are very limited when you're in an emergency situation unless you are a senior citizen, have dependents under 18, or drawing disability none to which I apply. On April 15th I had a roommate that unbeknownst to me was on heavy illegal narcotics. I did a credit check and verified that he made $1,200 a week and was only renting to him for a month because he was waiting on an apartment to open that he was interested in. I questioned his delusional paranoia at times but just figured maybe he had mental issues because I have PTSD and severe anxiety disorder so I wasn't going to judge anyone based off something like that. To get to the point I come home one day and he hit me square in the face like a man and had destroyed everything in my home. There was two inches of water on my white carpet and hardwood floors, eggshells and barbecue sauce and bleach all over my clothing, my water heater is not running hot water anymore since that day, I have no air conditioning because my central unit which is not even a year and a half old is not running, he took all of the food out of the house down to the salt and pepper and all of my medications and threw them out in the yard, put sugar in my gas tank and kicked my back door in. Not only that, he completely drained my bank account and cash app and EBT cards. I literally do not have one penny to my name right now. I've contacted all local places including DHR and churches and various charities to be told to contact two organizations that gave Federal funding and because I'm not eligible that was pretty much a dead end. The reason I took in a roommate was because I was sick and bedridden and it only saved up enough money for 6 months recovery that turned into 9 months. Little did I know it was going to cost me thousands of dollars for this minor mistake. The only reason I was able to find out that he was doing dirty dealings is because he's currently in jail right now for possession of controlled substance in burglary charges and burglary tools and paraphernalia along with my assault and criminal mischief charges. No churches have helped and I do not have transportation because there is sugar in my gas tank. I finally swallowed my pride and opened give send go account to help me generate some money but I've been having a really hard problem with people gaining my trust because of random scammers I guess. The reason I'm not working right now is because of a lack of transportation and I can't even get city transportation because I don't have a bus pass or money for one. I've had to reorder a bank card and EBT so the only thing I have right now is Cash app which automatically makes people suspicious of my intentions so at this point I don't know what to do and I'm wondering if anybody can offer any suggestions. I've been living off of water and multivitamins for 4 days and I have an 11 year old dog that is starting to get sick from this heat. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Someone did put some money on to the charitable account but I'm going to have to wait 3 to 5 days for the bank to send me a new card because I didn't realize it was missing until yesterday. Thank you and many blessings

RivalestNet (
RN for short) offers a highly immersive gaming environment that combines
survival and
industrial elements in an
anarchy server. We do not penalize players unless they cheat or exploit glitches.
※ Please note that this rule applies only within the game.※ In our Reddit community, you must adhere to Reddit's own rules and etiquette.※ If you encounter spamming in the game, please block the player yourself to maintain a harmonious gaming experience. In RN, there are abundant industrial machines that cater to 85% of your needs. Additionally, we have no restrictions on the use of redstone, and each chunk can accommodate up to 500 entities and 300 item drops, surpassing the limits of other servers.
To help you integrate into the game, we will briefly introduce a few items:
You can directly craft it using \"gravel\"! Flint and steel, redstone signal, explosion can ignite this block. It behaves similarly to \"TNT\" and explodes, throwing \"TNT\" into 8 surrounding corners. Can be placed in any direction. When triggered by a redstone signal, it automatically seeks the tool behind it (can also be manually inserted or removed) and consumes durability to break the block in front. Enchantments on the tool have an effect. The tool can be a pickaxe, axe, shovel, or hoe. Can be placed in any direction. When triggered by a redstone signal, it automatically seeks the weapon behind it (can also be manually inserted or removed) and consumes durability to attack the entity in front. Enchantments on the weapon have an effect. The weapon can be a sword or axe. Can be placed in any direction. When triggered by a redstone signal, it automatically seeks the block behind it (can also be manually inserted or removed) and consumes 1 item from the inventory to place it in front. Can be placed in any direction. When triggered by a redstone signal, it automatically seeks the bomb behind it (can also be manually inserted or removed) and consumes 1 item from the inventory to explode the blocks in the front area. The bomb can be \"TNT\" or \"TNT Bundle\". Melts surrounding blocks (also affects \"cauldrons\"). For example, \"ice\" turns into \"water,\" \"wet sponge\" turns into \"sponge,\" and \"blackstone\" turns into \"magma.\" Freezes surrounding blocks (also affects \"cauldrons\"). For example, \"water\" turns into \"ice\" or \"snow,\" and \"magma\" turns into \"blackstone\" or \"basalt.\" Feeding \"copper ingots\" increases the range, compressing all blocks and entities within the range into \"space\" or rotating them to the east/west/south/north. Arranges materials in a 3x3 grid recipe shape. When triggered by a redstone signal, it automatically seeks the materials below and throws the crafting result or remaining materials above. When triggered by a redstone signal, it consumes \"gunpowder\" below to shatter the block above. For example, \"stone\" turns into \"cobblestone,\" and \"cobblestone\" turns into \"gravel.\" When triggered by a redstone signal, it consumes food below to feed the animal above. Baby animals grow up faster, and older animals enter \"love mode.\" Feeding \"diamonds\" increases the range, allowing all players within the range to fly freely. Furthermore, all the above blocks can be pushed by "pistons."

2023.06.05 00:05 Lfaor1320 Attempting to return to my natural texture, help needed
| I’ve always had curly hair but aside from a couple years around 2008-2010 I’ve straightened it in some way constantly. These photos are my most recent attempt to style my natural texture in an attempt to embrace it. Photos are Day 3 Hair after a full restyle. Pertinent information: I think my hair is mostly type 3a? It was much coarsethicker in my teens but has thinned and gotten softer as I’ve aged (33 currently). Based on what I’ve read I think it’s medium porosity. It is color treated but only the bottom 1/3 has been bleached. I’ve heat styled 2-3 times a week for the last decade although I do use leave in conditioner and heat protection religiously when heat styling. Day 1 Routine: Shampooed with R+Co Television Perfect Hair, used Ion brand scalp treatment. Conditioned with it’s a 10 miracle deep conditioner plus keratin and R+Co television perfect hair conditioner. Lightly squeezed out excess water with microfiber towel before applying Not Your Mothers curl cream in sections brushing vertical sections with a wet brush at a 90 degree angle. Then applied not your mothers gel and diffused. Results were decent but I did not get a noticeable cast at all. Day 2 was barely salvageable after sleeping in a dating scrunchie pineapple. I was at my boyfriends so I was on a cotton pillowcase. My shortetop layers got very wonky and overall I lost definition and gained lots of frizz. I wore a half up bun and called it a day after adding a little hair oil to tame frizz. Day 3 routine: Dry brushed whole head before showering. Reconditioned with R+Co conditioner. Left hair wetter after shower removing only enough water to stop dripping. Applied Not your mothers gel section by section while finger coiling. Plopped in microfiber towel ~15 minutes then diffused. Primarily hover diffused since my goal was to create a cast. Diffused until ~80% dry and then let air dry because I had to run errands. I did use an oil to scrunch a bit before leaving but tried not to touch too much since I knew it wasn’t dry. It’s been~5 hours since showering and my roots still feel ever so slightly damp. Help needed: Any tips to help maintain definition and minimize frizz on day 2+ hair without fully rewetting my hair? I work in an office and I’m lazy, a blowout easily lasts 8-10 days if I add curls and touch them up every 2-3 days. Those touchups take ~10 minutes. I want to embrace my curls but cannot devote hours a day to maintain them. I’m open to product, technique, hairstyle or mindset recommendations. submitted by Lfaor1320 to curlyhair [link] [comments] |
