2023.06.05 11:00 RX-HER0 Spider-Man in DnD 5e!

Before we start, I'd like to give a great thanks to the "DM Mentor's Guild" discord, for without them I wouldn't have been able to make this build at all! Make sure to check them out! This server has experienced DMs with a knack for helping others tell an immersive fantasy, balance encounters, and fix game related issues. If your question requires a personal touch, there's no one I'd refer you to over the good guys at the "DM Mentor's Guild" server!
This is a guide for how to play Spider-Man in DnD 5e. Of course, it will be impossible for this to be all-encompassing, but I’ll do my best.
“With great power, comes great responsibility.”
Race.
Peter Parker isn't a mutant, but rather just a human. Due to the spiderbite, he’s far from your normal high schooler, however, so we’ll make him a Variant Human! Variant Humans get a feat at level 1, and we’ll be taking the Crusher feat to weave to yank enemies with our webs and launch them with our super strength! This feat gives us the ability to move a creature 5ft, once per turn, when you hit with an attack that deals bludgeoning damage. Additionally, when we crit on an attack, all attacks against our target have advantage until the start of our next turn. Finally, we may boost our Strength or Constitution by +1, and we’ll choose Constitution. As a Variant Human, we are also able to increase 2 of our stats by +1. Let’s boost Dexterity and Wisdom for better web-slinging and stronger Spidey-Senses! Finally, let’s grab Perception as a skill, to represent our peak ability and health!
Stat Array.
Peter’s got a wide array of abilities, so to cover this we’ll be using Point Buy, which gives us 27 points to put in our stats, which start at 8 as a default. Each increase above 13 will cost 2 points instead of 1.
9 points in Dexterity! Spider-Man is a slippery, nimble fellow with an agile fighting style! Our Dexterity will be 15 + 1 = 16, with a +3 modifier.
5 points in Wisdom! Peter’s always had a good heart and a just head on his shoulders. Additionally, Wisdom represents his senses, like Spider-Sense! Our Wisdom will be 13 + 1 = 14, with a +2 modifier.
5 points in Constitution! Spidey definitely can take a beating, but he’s more of the more frail characters of Marvel. Our Constitution will be a 13 + 1 = 14, with a +2 modifier.
5 points in Intelligence. On top of being nimble and perceptive, Peter’s smart beyond measure- to the point where he made his extremely strong, chemically binding web fluid by himself! Our Intelligence will be a 13, with a +1 modifier.
2 points in Strength. Spider-Man can lift metal fortresses, but we just can't have everything. Still, we can’t dump it. Our Strength will be a 10, with a +0 modifier.
0 points in Charisma. Peter’s a nerd who constantly gets picked on by Flash Thompson. Even as Spider-Man, he’s not exactly appreciated by the people of New York. Yeah, yeah, I know -he still had to have amazing Charisma to bag Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane, and Black Cat- but we can’t have everything. Our Charisma will be an 8, with a -1 modifier.
Background.
Peter Parker was a high schooler that, by circumstance, was bit by a radioactive spider, did a wrestling gig, saw his uncle die -you know the story already. Let’s grab Deception to lie to Aunt May, and Investigation, to devise tactics to defeat our enemies! Let’s call this the Web Head background.
Spider-Man is a fast, nimble hero who crawls walls and prefers to dodge attacks over tank through them, so we’ll kick them off as a Monk 1!
Let’s grab Athletics and Acrobatics as skills, to do whatever a spider can. We gain proficiency in Strength and Dexterity saving throws. We are also proficient in all simple weapons and short swords. For our artisan’s tool, let’s grab Tinker’s Tools.
Our favorite wall-crawler wears nothing but his costume in action, so it’s good that all Monks gain Unarmoured Defense! We gain a new way of calculating AC; 10 + Dexterity modifier + Wisdom Modifier! In other words, our AC does not come from armour, but from quickly evading blows and predicting attacks through Spider-Sense!
We also gain Martial Arts! We may use Dexterity instead of Strength for Unarmed Strikes or Monk weapons, which means that we can viably use all of our martial jabs and kicks. Furthermore, when rolling damage for a unarmed strike or monk weapon, we may role our martial art’s die + our Dexterity or Strength modifier in place of our usual damage. Our starting die is a d4. Finally, when we hit with an unarmed strike or Monk weapon on our turn, we may make an unarmed strike as a bonus action.
We’ll use Unarmed Strikes for our punches and kicks, and for our web shooters, we will actually use a sling! Why? It’s a 1-handed ranged weapon that does bludgeoning damage. With this, we can use our Crusher 5ft pull with our unarmed strike, which is our super-strength, or with our sling, which is yanking an enemy with our web shooters.
Monk 2.
At this level, our training allows us the ability to harness the mystic energy of Ki, which is a representation of our Spider Powers! We have Ki points equal to our Monk level, and regain all Ki on a short rest. Our Ki save DC is equal to 8 + proficiency bonus + Wisdom modifier. We may use Ki to fuel the following effects:
Flurry of Blows: Right after we take the attack action, we may spend 1 Ki point to make 2 Unarmed Strikes as a bonus action! This is a combo!
Patient Defense: We may spend 1 Ki point to take the dodge action as a bonus action. This is you focusing on dodging.
Step of the Wind: We may spend 1 Ki point to take the dash or disengage action as a bonus action! Be the spider JJJ just can’t squish!
Finally, we gain Unarmoured Movement at this level. While wearing no armor or a shield, we gain a bonus to our movement speed, which makes sense given how slippery Spider-Man is. Right now, it’s +10ft, and it’ll increase as we level up.
Monk 3.
At the 3rd level, All Monks get to choose a Monastic Tradition! For skirmishers like Spider-Man, Drunken Master is the best pick (you don’t actually have to drink for it to work).
As a Drunken Master, we gain proficiency in Performance, which we use to emulate our alter-ego ( also, use it for the dance ), and Brewer’s Supplies, to brew some New York joe.
All Drunken Masters also gain Drunken Technique, which gives us +10 movement speed and the benefit of the disengage action, when we use Flurry of Blows.
We also gain Deflect Missiles as a 3rd level Monk! As a reaction to being it with a ranged attack, we may deflect it, reducing the damage of the attack by 1d10 + Dexterity modifier + Monk Level. If we reduce the attack’s damage to zero, we may throw the projectile back as a monk weapon using the same reaction, at the cost of 1 Ki point! Catching a projectile and throwing it back is just the thing Spider-Man would do.
Monk 4.
At this level, we gain our First ASI! As a Monk, we desperately need them, so let’s not squander this bonus and boost our Dexterity by +2! Our Dexterity is now 16 + 2 = 18, with a +4 modifier!
We also gain Slow Fall at this level! As a reaction, we may reduce the damage from a fall that we take by 5 times our Monk level! It would be a shame if you took falling damage from your own jump, after all?
Monk 5.
At this level, we gain Extra Attack! When we take the attack action, we may make 2 attacks with that action! Spider-Man doesn’t take his rogue’s gallery down with one powerful strike, but with many rapid ones.
Additionally, we also gain Stunning Strike at this level! When we hit with a creature with an attack, we may expend 1 Ki point and force our opponent to make a Constitution saving throw. If they fail, they are stunned until the end of your next turn. This is you webbing up your opponent!
Alright, we’ve got a decent amount of martial ability and spider strength, let’s grab a few more specific abilities. To do that, let’s multiclass into . . .
Wizard 1!
All Wizards get Spellcasting, but we’ll reflavor yours as abilities you get courtesy of your radioactive blood, and/or your gadgets! After all, Spider-Men in general are at least a little bit mystic due to the Web of Life and Destiny. With how quick-witted you are, Intelligence will be your spellcasting modifier. As a Wizard, we get a spellbook for our spells, which for you is just your school notebook.
For Cantrips, we’ll pick . .
Mage Hand, to yank items towards you with a thwip.
Light, which is a light.
Mending, which is webbing something back together.
1st level Wizards also get to add 6 spells into their spellbook! Let’s grab . . .
Shield, which is a Web Barrier.
Longstrider, even more dexterous movement.
Catapult, which is using your webs to slingshot an object.
Gift of Alacrity, for even better reflexes.
Thunderwave, which is our impact webs.
Jump, which is how we’ll do web swinging. It isn’t climbing and isn’t flying, but I think this is a good compromise. With this and Step of the Wind, we have a 60ft long jump and a 18ft high jump.
As a 1st level Wizard, we also get Arcane Recovery, which allows us to, once per long rest, recover spell slots with a total level equal to or less then our Wizard level. The spell slots recovered cannot be above 6th level, to reload and gain more ammo!
Wizard 2.
2nd level Wizards get an Arcane Tradition, and the War Magic Tradition is the pick for superheroes that apply their intelligence in both rigorous study and brutal combat!
War Magic Wizards gain Arcane Deflection, which allows us to gain a +2 bonus to AC against the attack or a +4 bonus to that saving throw as a reaction. If we use this feature, the only spells we may cast next turn are cantrips. This is great for us, since we rely on weapon attacks anyway! This is our Spider-Sense.
We also gain Tactical Wit, which allows us to add our Intelligence modifier to our Initiative!
For our new spells, lets learn . . .
Silvery Barbs, which is distracting our enemy with a spurt of webs!
Identify, which is us using our Intelligence to figure out a mysterious magic item.
Wizard 3.
For our Wizard spells of this level, let’s learn . . .
Web, which is an AOE web (duh).
Earthbind, which is yanking Green Goblin down with webs.
Okay, we’ve got everything we need from Wizard, so let’s jump back to . . .
Monk 6.
At 6th level, we gain Ki Empowered Strikes! Our Unarmed Strikes now count as magical for the purpose of overcoming non-magical resistance.
As a Drunken Master Monk, we gain Tipsy Sway! This gives us two benefits:
Leap to Your Feet: When we’re prone, we can instantly flip off the floor, costing us only 5ft movement instead of half.
Redirect Attack: When we are missed with an attack role, we may spend one Ki point to cause that attack to hit one creature within 5ft of us, other than ourselves.
Both of these abilities are very fitting for Spidey!
Our unarmoured movement bonus increases to +15ft.
Monk 7.
At this level, We gain Evasion, which allows us to take half damage from a failed Dexterity save, and no damage from a successful Dexterity save! This is also a good ability for Spider-Man.
Additionally, we gain Stillness of Mind! As an action, we can end one effect on ourself that is causing us to be charmed or frightened. Spider-Man’s always had a good heart and a strong will, so it makes sense that it would be difficult to sway him with charms or frightens.
Monk 8.
At this level, we gain another ASI! Let’s boost Dexterity by +2 to cap it off at 18 + 2 = 20, with a +5 modifier! Now we’ve got the maximum amount of nimbleness that we can achieve.
Monk 9.
At this level, we gain an Unarmoured Movement Improvement, which allows us to run up walls and across water. Running up walls is our wallcrawling, and I guess across water is some shoe gadget you made?
Monk 10.
At this level, we gain Purity of Body, which makes us immune to poison and disease. Spider-Man’s got super-healing, after all.
Our unarmoured movement bonus increases to +20ft.
Monk 11.
At the 11th level of Monk as a Drunken Master, we gain Drunkard’s Luck! We always have a bout of luck when we need it most, as whenever we make an attack, save, or check and have disadvantage, we can spend 2 Ki to cancel out the disadvantage.
Monk 12.
Another ASI at this level. Let’s boost our Wisdom by +2 for higher AC and greater Spidey-Senses! Our Wisdom is now 14 + 2 = 16, with a +3 modifier!
Monk 13.
At the 13th level of Monk, we gain Tongue of the Sun and Moon! We are now able to understand all spoken languages, and all creatures that speak a language can understand what we can say! Spider-Man is beloved world-wide.
Monk 14.
At this level, we gain Diamond Soul! We’re now proficient in every single saving throw, including death saves, and if we fail a save, we may spend a Ki point to reroll!
Our unarmoured movement bonus increases to +25ft.
Monk 15.
All 15th level Monks gain Timeless Body! We no longer suffer the ill effects of aging and cannot be aged magically. I guess this explains why was perpetually in highschool (yeah I know the real reason is the comic line restarts).
Monk 16.
At this level, we gain another ASI! Wisdom is important for us, so let’s boost our Wisdom by +2! Our Wisdom is now 16 + 2 = 18, with a +4 modifier.
And finally, we’ll cap off our webbed wonder with . . .
Monk 17.
This is our final Drunken Monk Feature, Intoxicated Frenzy! When we use Flurry of blows, we can make up to 3 additional attacks with our bonus action, provided that each Flurry of blows attack targets a different target.
Pros
We are extremely mobile! 55ft movement base, 110ft movement on a dash, 220ft with two, 20ft horizontal jump and 18ft high jump with Step of the Wind and the Jump spell, and we can crawl on walls and run on water! We’re really hard to pin down, especially since we can disengage for free when using Flurry!
We’ve got great defenses! 19 AC, Proficiency in every save, we can remove disadvantage for 1 Ki, we can reroll for 1 Ki, +5 to AC through Shield, +2 for free through War Magic, and +4 to saves also through War Magic.
We’re great at handling crowds, as we can make 7 attacks with Flurry of blows as long as we hit a different creature each time, and can make a Stunning Strike attempt on each hit!
Cons
We dipped Wizard for Web, but we have a really low Spellcasting Modifier and as such a really easy save to beat.
We missed one of the best Monk features, Empty Body.
A sling is just worse than a shortbow (in DnD, slings are crazy IRL)
Black Suit Spider-Man Quickbuild
Miles: “Let’s go man, before he gets too far!”
Peter: “No . . . he’s mine . . .”
Miles: “You sure? He’s got big teeth.”
Peter: “So do I.”
This is still Peter, but now he’s making use of the dark powers of the Symbiote, so he’ll still be a Variant Human but instead of Crusher, we’ll grab Eldritch Adept and gain the Mask of Many Faces invocation, which gives us at-will castings if Disguise Self. This’ll be how we shift from
our classic and black suit.
Our main stat is Strength.
Take 1 in Monk for Martial Arts.
Put the following 6 levels in Barbarian, which fits the much more brutalistic nature of your newly adopted fighting style. Take the Beast subclass for large symbiote weapons! Your maw is conjoining your arms and spawning a giant toothy jaw, your claws are tendrils at the tip of your fingers, and your tail is a great black tentacle that leaps out of you. Not to mention, you can crawl and jump(webswing) long distances now too. We’ll be using the Barbarian’s unarmoured defense.
Put the next 2 levels in Monk and take the Astral Self subclass, which we’ll reflavor as our stretchy symbiote attacks. We’ve got 3 Ki, with 9 over the course of the day, assuming 2 short rests.
Put your remaining 11 levels in Barbarian. Infectious Fury is placing a mote of your symbiote within your target and making them attack your ally. Or, it’s just scaring the shit out of them if you choose the other option. Call of the Hunt is giving a bit of your symbiote to the entire party.
Venom Quickbuild
“We are Venom.”
While building Black Suit Spiderman I noticed that the build would also work perfectly for Venom, which makes sense.
This build would be the same as with Black Suit, but we’ll grab a 1 Rogue level at the beginning and grab Expertise in Strength and Intimidation.
Carnage Quickbuild
“I am the ultimate insanity! I am CARNAGE!”
This build is the exact same as Venom’s, except we grab Rogue 2 after level 6 of Barbarian for Cunning Action, and we’ll put Expertise in Acrobatics instead of Athletics.
Spider-Gwen Quickbuild
“All right, people, let's start at the beginning one last time. My name is Gwen Stacy. I was bitten by a radioactive spider, and for the last two years I've been the one and only Spider-Woman. You guys know the rest . . .”
This build is the same as the original, except instead of Crusher we’ll grab Mobile, and we’ll take a 1 level Rogue dip after our Wizard levels for Expertise, which we’ll put in Perception and Acrobatics.
Miles Morales Quickbuild
“Okay, let's do this one last time, yeah? For real this time. This is it. My name is Miles Morales. I was bitten by a radioactive spider. And for like two days, I've been the one and only Spider-Man. I think you know the rest . . .”
Miles is a high schooler who was bitten by a radioactive spider, just like Peter, so he’ll be a Variant Human too, although for him we’ll grab Mobile instead of Crusher for hit and run tactics. He’ll still use a sling for webs. Make sure to grab Sleight of Hand to swipe the USB from Peter.
Our main stat is Dexterity, but we also want decent Wisdom for AC and saves.
From there, put all 20 levels in Monk and take the Ascendant Dragon subclass. We can change our unarmed strikes to elemental damage, so this is how we get our lighting abilities (don’t use it for any other damage type because that’s out of character!). Same thing goes for Breath of the Dragon - it’s a blast of Lighting Wings unfurled is our web swinging, and Aspect of Wyrm and Ascendent Aspect are already built off of flavor we’ve already established. Empty Body is our invisibility, and Stunning Strike is a zapping stun.
Spider-Man 2099 Quickbuild
“What has yesterday done to tomorrow?”
Miguel O’hara is a human, but his DNA was overwritten with that of a spider, so we’ll choose Simic Hybrid, and our level 1 mutation will be Nimble Climber. ( Ask your DM if you can have the Sunlight Sensitivity trait )
Our main stat is Dexterity, but we also want decent Wisdom for AC and saves.
Put 5 levels in Monk and choose the Open Hand subclass. Our Open Hand Technique is our super strength and agility, and Stunning Strike is injecting someone with our venom. Choose Grappling Appendages, which are just your claws.
From there, put 2 levels in Rogue ( ask your DM if you can use Sneak Attack on Unarmed Strikes ) for Cunning Action and Expertise. Take Expertise in Athletics for grapples and Perception for your super hearing and supervision.
From there, put 2 levels in Artificer and grab the Repeating Shot infusion for your organic webbing, Sending Stones, which are tech communications, Goggles of Night for your darkvision, and the Wand of Detection, which is your AI Lyra doing a scan for you.
From there, put 3 levels in Wizard and take the Conjuration subclass, which gives you a 3d printer you can use to make small items with. Choose all the spells that we chose in the original build.
Then, dump the remaining 8 levels into Monk. Wholeness of the body is our healing factor, and Tranquility is simply us being hard to hit.
Spider-Noir Quickbuild
“Wherever I go, the wind follows. And the wind smells like rain."
This Peter was bitten just like our Peter was, so we’ll make him a Variant Human. Instead of Crusher we’ll grab Gunner for your revolver.
Our main stat is Dexterity, but we also want decent Wisdom for AC and saves.
Put 5 levels in Monk, choose Kensei, and grab a Revolver. Our Stunning Strikes are Knock-Out punches.
Put 3 levels in Fighter and take the Blight Fighting style to fight in pitch black darkness. Choose the Battlemaster subclass. Grab Trip Attack, Feinting Attack, and Ambush.
Take 2 levels in Rogue for Cunning Action and Expertise. Take Expertise in Athletics and Stealth.
Take 3 levels in Wizard and choose the Divination subclass, which is your Spider-Sense. Choose the same spells as the ones we chose for our initial build, except swap out Earthbind for Spider Climb.
Dump the remaining 7 levels in Monk.
Peni Parker Quickbuild
“私の名前はペニ・パーカーです。私は 3145 年のニューヨーク出身です。父のロボットの中に住んでいるクモと精神的なつながりがあります。そして私たちは永遠に親友であり続けます。”
Peni Parker wasn’t given power by a radioactive spider, but she bonded with it -oh, and that spider controls an anime mech that she pilots. Let’s make Peni a Variant Human and grab Telekinetic, which is you pulling or pushing something with webs.
Our main ability will be Intelligence.
Put all 20 levels in Artificer, and choose Armourer as your subclass to get your SP//dr mecha.
Choose the Guardian Model. We’ll be wearing Full Plate.
Choose Enhanced Defense, Goggles of the Night, Enhanced Arcane Focus, Armour of Magical Strength, Boots of Elvenkind, Slippers of Spider Climbing, Boots of Striding and Springing, Ring of Jumping, Belt of Hill Giant Strength, Ring of Protection, Spell-Refueling Ring, and Helm of Awareness as infusions.
Pick Booming Blade, Sword Burst, Guidance, and Thorn Whip as cantrips. Prepare Web, Spider Climb, Stoneskin, Haste, Absorb Elements, Detect Magic, Faerie Fire, Identify, Jump, Longstrider, Kinetic Jaunt, Dispel Magic, Glyph of Warding, Water Breathing, and Alarm. We also get Magic Missile, Thunderwave, Mirror Image, Shatter, Hypnotic Pattern, Lighting Bolt, Fire Shield, Greater Invisibility, Passwall, and Wall of Force.
Booming blade is a sonic strike, Sword Burst is a 360 swipe, Guidance is looking something up, and Thornwhip is a grappling hook. Web, Jump, Longstrider, Kinetic Jaunt, and Spider Climb are typical spider-person stuff. Stoneskin, Absorb Elements, Alarm, Fire Shield, and Dispel Magic are SP//dr’s defenses. Detect Magic and Identify are scanners, Faerie Fire is targeting systems, Glyph of Warding is a trap ( I guess you can do that now? ), and Water Breathing is just SP//dr being airtight. Magic Missile is web missiles ( yeah I know it’s a stretch ), Passwall is smashing through a wall, Wall of Force is a forcefield, Lighting Bolt and Shatter is techy stuff the mech probably can do (?), Haste is a battle focus, and Greater Invisibility is out of character so don’t use it.
Spider-Ham Quickbuild
"I was bitten by a radioactive pig."
Spider-Ham was a spider that was bitten by a radioactive pig. Instead of trying to comprehend the logic check that such an origin demands, let’s just make him a Gnome, which fits since he’s a tricky, short fella. Specifically, a Forest Gnome, and we’ll use Minor Illusion for our cartoon shenanigans. We’ll use a light hammer for our mallet.
Our main stat is Dexterity, but we also want decent Wisdom for AC and saves.
From there, the build follows our original Spider-Man build, except instead of taking 3 levels in Wizard, we’ll take 3 in Warlock. Choose the Hexblade subclass.
Take the Beast Speech and Improved Pact Weapon invocations.
Take the Pact of the Blade boon. This is your hammerspace.
For cantrips, grab Prestidigitation, True Strike, and Mage Hand. For spells, learn Shield, Hex, Expeditious Retreat, and Shadow Blade.
Expeditious Retreat is just running fast, Prestidigitation and Major image will be used for cartoon stuff like making a lightbulb appear over your head. True Strike is waiting for the right time to strike. Shield is dodging out of the way, Hex is a combat focus, and Shadowblade is a random weapon pulled out of hammer space ( it deals psychic damage because your opponent can’t comprehend that they’re being beaten by a pig ).

Role Of a Data Scientist In BFSI And How To Become One – 2023 Guide
Data scientists are the go-to people for big data projects in banking, finance, and insurance. They work on the front lines of financial services and help companies gain a competitive edge by incorporating data into their business models. This can mean helping companies manage risk or identifying new opportunities by analyzing data that hasn't been collected in the past. In this blog, we'll look at what it takes to become a data scientist and how you can start your career in this field today!
Role Of a Data Scientist In BFSI And How To Become One – 2023 Guide

Data Science

Data science is a unique combination of computer science, mathematics, and statistics. It has been in demand from the BFSI sector for years now as more and more businesses have realized the importance and value of data for their growth plans. While data scientists have begun to emerge in science parks, BIGDATA, and open innovation platforms, it's still a name many people aren't familiar with.

Who are Data Scientists?

Data scientists are people who deal with numbers in an everyday manner. They must process complex data into manageable pieces that normal human beings can understand. This is done by applying mathematics, statistics and computer programming skills. They may need to use different tools such as SQL databases, spreadsheets, and graphics.
However, there are different kinds of data scientists – investment bankers use data experts to crunch numbers on stocks and bonds; e-commerce companies may hire big data analysts to work with customer behavior; pharmaceutical companies may hire statisticians or quantitative analysts for their research projects; and marketing firms hire market researchers who study consumer behavior based on online sales patterns.

What does a data scientist do?

What are the daily tasks of a financial data scientist now that we have a general understanding of how data science in the finance industry developed (and why it is so crucial)? In fact, these are often very wide. Several versions exist based on the industry they work in. These are in the areas of:
  • Risk Management
  • Pricing Automation
  • Algorithmic trading
  • Fraud Detection
  • Customer experience
  • Consumer analytics

What does a financial Data Scientist do?

An expert in financial data science uses data science methods to analyze pertinent customer and financial data. Data from hedge funds, financial technology, investment banking, and retail banking may be gathered by them. Scientists develop statistical analysis and financial model tools to assess and comprehend data. They use this information to back their recommendations for financial choices and their suggestions for novel trials, projects, or products.

Responsibilities of Data Scientist in BFSI

  • Applying machine learning to identify transactional irregularities to help with fraud detection
  • Creating risk models that aid banks and other organizations in assessing the possible risk of a candidate or investment
  • Helping to create tailored experiences that will enhance the user experience for customers
  • Finding possibilities to boost efficiency and reduce expenses
  • Taking data out of databases
  • Constructing dashboards for stakeholders to display data findings
  • Strategic data gathering, complicated data infrastructure architecture, engineering, and documentation
  • The cohesion of unstructured and semi-structured data using data modeling approaches
  • Analyzing unstructured and semi-structured data using computer vision and natural language processing (NLP)
  • Collaborating with various teams to identify issues and develop data-driven solutions to these issues
  • Utilizing quantitative analysis to gain insights, transforming them into implementable solutions, and then integrating them successfully (while measuring outcomes)
  • Leveraging existing data to train machine learning models and developing prototype systems to test novel ideas
  • To assist in managing the data analytics and machine learning processes, developing and coding unique algorithms from the start
  • Maintaining clear lines of communication with various corporate departments and coaching less experienced employees

How to Get Started Investing in Stocks A Beginner's Guide

https://preview.redd.it/tkjym90nl54b1.jpg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=85b89a8d89c1575d527e912814ba74e6511962b1
Investing in stocks can be an excellent way to grow wealth and achieve financial goals. While it may seem intimidating at first, with the right knowledge and approach, anyone can start investing in stocks. This article aims to provide you with a beginner's guide on how to begin your journey into the world of stock investing.

Educate Yourself

Before diving into the stock market, it's essential to educate yourself about how it works and the various investment options available. Start by understanding key investment terms such as stocks, bonds, dividends, and portfolio diversification. Numerous online resources, books, and courses are available to help you gain a solid understanding of stock investing.

Set Clear Goals

Defining your investment goals before investing in stocks is crucial. Are you looking for long-term wealth accumulation, saving for retirement, or funding a specific financial goal? Setting clear objectives will help guide your investment decisions and determine your investment horizon.

Assess Your Risk Tolerance

Investing in stocks comes with inherent risks. Before getting started, it's vital to evaluate your risk tolerance—the degree of comfort you have with potential fluctuations in the value of your investments. Consider factors such as your age, financial obligations, and investment goals to determine the level of risk you're willing to take.

Establish an Emergency Fund

Before investing, ensure an emergency fund is in place. This fund should cover at least three to six months of your living expenses. Having a safety net protects you from financial hardships in case of unforeseen circumstances and allows you to invest with peace of mind.

Choose the Right Brokerage Account

To invest in stocks, you'll need to open a brokerage account. Research and compare different brokerage firms to find one that aligns with your needs. Consider factors such as fees, account minimums, trading platforms, and available research tools. Many reputable online brokerages offer user-friendly interfaces and educational resources for beginners.

Start with Index Funds or Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs)

If you're new to stock investing, it's wise to start with index funds or ETFs. These investment vehicles allow you to diversify your portfolio across multiple stocks or market sectors, reducing the risk associated with individual stock picking. Index funds and ETFs are designed to track a specific market index, such as the S&P 500, and provide broad market exposure.

Research and Select Stocks

Once you feel comfortable with the basics, you can begin researching and selecting individual stocks. Start by identifying companies that align with your investment goals and have a history of consistent performance. Analyze financial statements, company news, and industry trends to make informed investment decisions. Additionally, consider consulting professional advice or subscribing to reputable investment research platforms.

Practice Patience and Long-Term Thinking

Stock investing is a long-term endeavor. The stock market experiences fluctuations and volatility in the short term, but historically, it has delivered strong returns over the long run. Avoid the temptation to react to short-term market movements and focus on your long-term investment strategy. Patience and discipline are key to successful stock investing.

Monitor and Review Your Portfolio

Regularly monitor the performance of your investments and review your portfolio. Ensure that your investments are aligned with your goals, and make adjustments as needed. However, avoid making frequent changes based on short-term market movements, as it may hinder your overall investment strategy.

Stay Informed and Continue Learning

The stock market is ever-evolving, and staying informed is crucial. Keep up with financial news, market trends, and economic indicators. Additionally, continue to expand your knowledge by reading books, attending webinars, and networking with experienced investors. Learning from your experiences and staying up-to-date will help you become a better investor over time.

Conclusion

When it comes to investing in stocks, it's essential to address concerns regarding religious principles, such as whether investing in stocks is considered Haram (forbidden) or Halal (permissible) in Islamic finance. While I am an AI language model and not an Islamic scholar, I can provide some general information.
The question of whether investing in stocks is Haram or Halal can vary depending on different interpretations and opinions within the Islamic community. Islamic finance principles emphasize avoiding certain activities, such as interest-based transactions (riba) and investments in prohibited industries, such as alcohol, gambling, and pork-related businesses.
In general, stock investing can be considered Halal if certain conditions are met. This includes investing in companies that are Sharia-compliant, meaning they adhere to Islamic principles and operate in permissible industries. Additionally, investments should avoid companies with excessive debt, questionable financial practices, or involvement in activities that conflict with Islamic values.
To ensure compliance with Islamic finance principles, many financial institutions offer Sharia-compliant investment products, such as Islamic mutual funds or exchange-traded funds (ETFs). These investment vehicles are designed to meet the requirements of Islamic finance and provide opportunities for Halal investing.
However, it's crucial to consult with a qualified Islamic scholar or a financial advisor with expertise in Islamic finance to obtain accurate and personalized guidance based on your specific circumstances and beliefs. They can provide you with insights into the Islamic principles related to stock investing and help you make informed decisions aligned with your religious values.
Ultimately, the question of whether investing in stocks is Haram or Halal is a matter of personal interpretation and adherence to Islamic principles. Seeking proper guidance and education from qualified sources will help you navigate the complexities of Islamic finance and make investment choices that align with your religious beliefs and financial goals.

2023.06.05 09:27 Physykz Question regarding LBO with dividend recap proccess

Hi, I’ve recently started to study the BIWS 400 questions as preparation for a business course in university and came across the question: Could you end up with negative shareholder equity?
The model answer given is that it can arise from a leveraged buyout with dividend recapitalisation, but I was unfamiliar with this process. I’m mainly trying to clarify what I understand is correct.
So as far as I understand the VC or whatever firm starts by buying out the company. It then borrows money from a bank, increasing its debt and cash equally. It then issues a one time dividend to itself(?) to recoup some of the expense of buying out the company, decreasing the shareholder equity (possibly into the red), and decreasing cash by the same amount. The result is that total assets in the company remains the same, while shareholder equity decreases and liabilities increases, balancing the balance sheet.
Any feedback on my explanation of this is greatly appreciated!

2023.06.05 09:20 Psychological-Rain77 how should prepare for to invest when i hit 18

hello! i’m(17f) from singapore and i’m turning 18 in october so i’m wondering how i should portion my money for some context; - i have around 19800 liquid cash in the bank and i’ve done some of my own research and my dad is encouraging me to combine my money with my brother and buy bank stocks since they’re supposedly quite stable and have a 4%dividend rate. if i want to start investing now i also can by putting it in my dads name and he’ll just transfer me the dividends and such when they’re given out. -i have a monthly allowence of 100 dollars because i don’t have any bills to pay and my mum packs all of my meals so i’ve used the 20%savings 50%neccessities and 30%spending rule and if i have any balance it goes straight into my savings. just this month i’ve decided to change it to 40%savings and 60% spending as i felt that it made more sense because i don’t really have necessities
so my main question is what would be the best combination to start with as someone who’s new to stocks and also won’t need to touch the money for awhile. my main goals are retiring relatively early, travelling and buying my first home.
also what proportion of my allowence should i be putting into investment contributions

2023.06.05 08:43 DependentAd5017 A halo rewrite idea.

Alright, disclaimer, this is mostly focused on gameplay, so not much of story would be told, you can lay the foundations, I'm just laying my ideas that incorporate the rewrite, I will have a semi story already laid, so you can continue the laying! I'm just dumping my ideas.
I think the story should've had the stuff we had at the start, and midway throw a giant twist happens; the flood returns, then the entire world gets slowly infected, you have a 4 hour timer in real time, and if you don't do jack sh** the ring fully gets infected and basically becomes a zombie game. You can still do the campaign, but the enemies you now face are flood instead of banished. The game would basically become a horror game and new abilities unlock that are focused on the flood. Flood resistance, Flood cleansing, and flood dead shot. Flood resistance is obvious, you take less damage from flood weapons, flood cleansing does more damage against flood, and flood deadshot increasing your aim against flood units.
The outposts in the game would now be infected causing a new type of Outpost, Flood outposts, Basically the reason why you would want to defeat these is that they give you more cover, because now the air is contaminated, your character now relies upon a gas mask that is in your suit. the air time ranges from 10-20 minutes and is like the metro gas mask.
these outposts give you more air. and you can even upgrade your gasmask, the new focus in the game is for survival, master chief has to stop the infection, so the new missions are to head to areas and clean out the infection.
a new feature would also be added; outpost defense, your new outposts would be randomly attacked, depending on the infection meter which is another new thing, the infection meter shows you how bad the infection is, the higher the meter is, the harder the flood is, if the meter is around 100-70 the flood might attack your base, if you don't defend it your base is lost.
which adds more of difficulty, you no longer have ai companies either, since most who don't cover their mouths or noses get infected. which they require a gasmask. you can find gasmask to give to your ai friends. and finally, we come to my favorite part. when the player is halfway through the game and get into a fourrunner area, if your infection meter is 100, there's a chance a python appears, what's a python? it's a giant flood creature that cannot be killed and requires the player to run, or hide, the python adds a element of stealth, if it catches you. your dead. No chance to survive.
this adds a horror element and the lights also go out. so you need to turn on the flashlight, which can alert the python, especially by sound. but if it sees the light, it investigates. during the python attack, the light is your new enemy, and the dark is your friend. if you hide in the dark, the python cannot see you unless you make noise or move around. the python never disappeares and only appears where areas have multiple exits, and entrances, and if they're big enough. This part is especially inspired by amnesia. You can defend yourself against the python, although it won't do much, you can stun the python with fire/plasma weapons, but you cannot kill it.
The way you remove the python is by managing to get to the area you needed to go. Now this will be balanced depending on what difficulty you have on, easy would completely remove the python, flood infection meter would slowly go up. Outposts are incredibly easy to defend/attack. Enemies are weaker, and ai friends no longer get infected.
Normal would be the exact thing I just mentioned previously. Pythons come at 100% infection goes up within a count of 30-20 minutes.
Heroic changes a few things, enemies now use new abilities, the normal flood guys now uses the super jump from halo 3, that super jump where they jump to you and slap you? That returns. New enemies appear which these new enemies are these; the berserker, a giant flood rhino like creatures that rams you and if you aren't careful, can insta kill you. This won't happen if it's horn is not out. It has a retractable horn. Sorry if I'm rambling btw, I just want these ideas acrossed.
The racker, it is a horrific slim beast that has human, and elite, and brute heads/bodies poking out of it, just to terrify you and play mind games. It can grab you, but cannot insta kill you. It has a sweeping attack that you can jump from. Easily, and it can pick up nearby vehicle and throw it at you. You can also dodge these if you have the evade equipment.
And finally the feeder. What does this do? It spawns flood parasites endlessly until you kill it. If you attack it though the parasites will center their attention to you. Especially if your in multiplayer. It also explodes when it dies.
And finally were on legendary. This increases all damage on enemies, more enemies in total, the previous enemies I just mentioned, and the python appears at 60-50 infection meter. It also can now appear in the world, but you can actually defend yourself if your in your base. Which a nearby turrent which is made especially for the python is on the walls on the base. So you can finally defend yourself against it! Yay!
And here's a extra idea that I don't really think fits halo, but I thought it was a cool idea. Basically it's a sanity meter. (Yes I've been playing a lot of amnesia recently.) This sanity meter does not kill you, or makes you seen easily, it makes you hallucinate instead, for example if your at really low sanity, enemies would randomly appear, but they aren't real, if you damage them they turn to dust, they can't hurt you either. Weapons would also turn to dust, or just randomly appear and then turn to dust. The way to indicate that the weapon isn't real is the icon below. It would be orange. Which is a indicator that it isn't real and you should move along. I don't know a idea to bring up the sanity, or how it goes down. But I thought it was a cool idea. I don't think it should be added though.
Overall this is just some Ideas I have, I've been seeing a lot of peoples disappointment towards no flood. So I thought these ideas might satisfy those fans and have them think of a reality of the flood in infinite. I just thought these ideas up. Hope y'all liked this post if you read through all of it. I know I sounded ranty or probably didn't explain the features well, I hope you all understood them well. Have a great day!

2023.06.05 08:27 RelationNational866 Advice on CC Balance Payoff

So long story short I overextended myself big time by taking a new job in a HCOL with minimal emergency funds. Pair that with substantial car and emergency dental , I put myself in a hole. Ended up maxing my credit cards ($8,043 balance ATM) and unfortunately taking on some horrible predatory loans to cover bills. Essentially kicking the can but that’s besides the point.
Obviously my credit took a hit, now down to ~560(FICO). I was able to secure a consolidation loan from my credit union (16.99% APR) and they also offered a $2500 credit line (2.99% APR for 12mo). After paying off all of the very bad loans, I am left with ~$1800 of my consolidation loan and the $2500 credit line
My question here is how I should plan to use the remaining funds to pay down my credit cards. I am uneasy with my current Poor score at 560 as I will most likely need to apply for a new apartment come September. How can I optimize paying these balances down to result in better bumps to my credit score(See excel breakout below). I have no reported missed payments so it’s largely been my prolonged 98% utilization dragging my score down.
With some of this predatory debt gone I should have some breathing room to save. I’ve calculated that I should have ~$1700 remaining per month after all expenses which I will use to both pay down the cards and rebuild an emergency fund.
Any advice is much appreciated. If I am aiming for significant score boost in around 3 months should I distribute payments across each account, bringing their respective utilizations down? Or do I use the available funds to snowball these balances?

2023.06.05 07:20 Fr3shBread I received a request for additional personal information from a large bank for an account I don't believe I technically own.

[Texas] I don't technically own this bank account. I'm 25M and in Texas. My parents divorced when I was like two or three. In the divorce my father whom I do not speak to was given custody of a savings account, I don't know what kind of account it was perhaps custodial? All I know is that I was on it as a beneficiary of sorts. My mom has the information buried somewhere in the stacks of legal paperwork from the number of times they've had to sue eachother. For missed child support, reduction of support, late payments on portions of medical expenses, etc.
After I was 18, I went into a branch to try and access the funds to help pay for college. Unless my dad has been a surprisingly good father and made deposits himself, I estimate around $140. It was money my mom's relatives had given me after I was born. That's with interest. But they would not give me any details concerning the account in my name, with my ID, unless I had the account holder present. I don't even know the balance and it wasn't on the information they sent.
In short, I don't care too much about it. Don't care enough to contact him. But the fact that it was from my mom's relatives after I was born and he has it, even though it's a small amount, it irks me that he has it.
Is there anything I can do to access this without contacting him? I'd like to not lose the money in the account, as I don't know if when it gets sent to unclaimed property in Texas if it would go to them in my name or his for me to access. Or how long it would even take for that to happen after they make the account inactive, or if they have it buried in their terms somewhere that they get to keep it.
I'd like to know my options before I make a trek to a branch. If there were one in my town, I'd run down there and ask instead of posting here. But there isn't.
Note: This was deleted and re-uploaded as the word update initially being in the title triggered an auto lock of the thread, and I also realized I accidentally named the bank.

Canadian Federal Elections 101

Canada has inherited its political system from the United Kingdom, sticking to Westminster parliamentary system ever since. This means, that unlike in the United States, the outcome of Canadian elections are won by whichever party manages to elect the greatest number on Member of Parliament to the House of Commons of Canada, allowing the leader of this party to assume the office of Prime Minister.
The Senate of Canada provides for a stark contrast, since despite being originally designed to ensure provincial representation, the upper house remains unelected and is largely subjected to the politics in the House of Commons.
When no party is able to secure more than 50 per cent of seats in the House, a leader of a political party that is able to command more than 50 per cent of MPs, for example through singing supply and confidence or coalition agreements with other parties, becomes Prime Minister instead. Historically, however, the largest party in the House of Commons tends to form a monitory government, when it commands a plurality of MPs, rather than an outright majority. This allows the largest party to remain in power, but it has to rely on MPs from other political factions to pass crucial pieces of legislation, especially when it comes to votes that indicate parliamentary confidence, such as federal budgets. Losing those votes, would effectively mean that the current government has to either be completely re-staffed with new Cabinet Ministers, or call a snap election.
However, minority governments remained fairly uncommon in Canada, since the current voting system, called First-Past-the-Post (FPTP), allows for individual MPs to win their respective ridings - also known as constituencies - to be elected into the House of Commons with a simple plurality of votes. Thus, a political party can win most seats in the House of Commons through strategically placing their bets on ridings with very tight margins, where just one extra vote may allow their nominee to win a permanently seat, effectively making all votes for the opposition candidate in that riding meaningless.

General Backgrounder

For example, the Liberal Party of Canada has won the last two federal elections with a plurality of seats in the House of Commons, despite coming only 2nd to the Conservative Party of Canada during popular vote. The Liberals, despite becoming the largest party in the House still fell short of winning the majority of seats, being forced to rely on the New Democratic Party, that represented are more progressive social democratic part of the electorate, for crucial votes. Later, the Government has called a snap election aiming to get their desired majority, but failed, and had to sign a formal Supply and Confidence Agreement with the NDP, that included a massive package of social programmes, such as the recently implemented national dental care and prescription drug insurance.
However, while enjoying a steady lead in polls vis-a-vis, the federal Conservatives during the pandemic, the Liberals had experienced persistent slump as post-pandemic recovered coupled with sticky inflation and rapidly deteriorating housing crisis. As the Federal Conservatives have moved to the right following the election of a new leader, they have utilised concurrent economic challenges and liberal economic policy, blaming the current government's pandemic related emergency spending coupled with expansion of social programs as the root cause for inflation into collapsing housing affordability.
As Canada had to respond to America's Inflation Reduction Act with a new public investment into green transition, conservative criticism of the Trudeau government has become ever more vocal, with fiscal deficits presumably exacerbating, concurrent inflationary pressures.
Liberal policies, especially introducing the federal backstop mechanism for carbon pricing, has also spurred, vicious opposition, among Conservatives, especially those living in the Western Canada, that culminated in the razor-thin re-election of the United Conservatives in the oil-producing province of Alberta. The federal response to the freedom, convoy protest, as well as the general push, forever wider collective community during the pandemic, has created some fertile soil for the opposition, Conservatives to capitalise on, especially as the more moderate leader of the party had been ousted shortly after the convoy protest.
After more than eight years in government, the liberal party has also been embroiled in several corruption and ethics candles, including the SNC-Lavallin affair, the pandemic-era ArriveCan App scandal, and, most recently, the accusations of Chinese electoral interference, and Chinese police stations operating in Canada.
In fact, the situation for the current government has become so dire. It's a point, but more than 80% of forecasters projected a Conservative minority government has the most probable outcome for the next election. According to some polls, the Liberals would be unable to form a government, even with the support of the New Democratic Party. The liberal convention in late spring 2023, didn't provide much of a relief either, how's the party continued to lack a comprehensive platform to combat the issue of housing and affordability - something that steadily climbed the rate of priorities for many Canadians, to become the most pressing issue, when deciding who to vote for. If anything, the Conservative party has become the most popular political force, among younger Canadians, with their laser, sharp focus on the issue of inflation and housing affordability.
The issue of housing affordability has become central to the Conservative Convention, where the Party has committed to "restoring" home ownership across the country, through planning laws deregulation and "removing resections on the supply of housing". This would see the federal government to tie federal spending on housing to municipalities shortening approval times, waive HST/GST for housing, as well as allow landlords to re-invest their profits into new housing tax-free. The Conservative convention also proposed federal infrastructure funding to be linked to higher-density housing construction.
What did, however, play in favour of the current government, what is the time. Within Canadian Parliamentary system, the Prime Minister can call an election effectively anytime, so long their term doesn't exceed the four year threshold, that was approaching at Fall 2025, supported by the Supply and Confidence Agreement with New Democrats.
As inflation in North America has started slowly subsiding toreturn to the 2% target in early fall 2024, Trudeau has managed to re-gain some the economic credibility his government has seemingly lost. The Liberals have also continued their tilt to make some inroads into the NDP camp, with the Federal Budget 2024 going heavily on Net Zero and Green Transition.
However, the Liberals also had to deal with a political deadline, whether to call and election before or after the Budget 2025 would've been published. The former might allow the LPC to avoid the criticism of "buying up votes" that the party received after calling the snap election shortly after introducing their Federal Budget in 2021. However, Trudeau also had a stake at deferring the election for long as possible, hoping that waiving inflationary pressure might open up more space for the Liberals to re-gain the economic ground over the Conservatives.

Federal Election 2025

After long deliberation, the federal Cabinet has opened to hold an election in late March 2025, right at the time when a government would have normally tabled their budget. The election that both the Liberals and the Conservatives have approached after almost a year or neck-and-neck perforce in the polls, with Trudeau having a minuscule advantage in personal ratings.
The economy, especially housing affordability, have become two main issues during this election, closely followed by healthcare - namely access to family physicians and waiting times for selected procedures - and the issue of inflation still lingering at the back of the public debate.
Trudeau himself because a matter for the debate, with the Liberals banking on his personal likability, while Federal Conservatives continuously pressed with corruption and ethical scandals and corruption allegations, combined with the Liberal campaign continuously bringing up the "electability issue" of their opponents.

Housing

With the Tories enjoying slight lead on the matter of economic competence, the Liberals opted to treat the housing crisis as a matter of social policy, while banking heavily on personal popularity of Trudeau himself. From the policy-standpoint, LPC Election Platform has effectively copied the proposal originally voiced during the Conservative Convention. Namely, waiving GST/HST for housing construction, allowing landlords to re-invest their profits into constructing more units tax-free, as well as linking federal spending to new housing development and liberalising permitting process. The difference with the Conservatives was the focusing on new federal spending to combat housing affordability.
Liberal election promises involved the commitment for new federal housing construction to exceed population growth by the end of the first term, through the government directly contracting private developers to build more affordable housing, and task the Canada Infrastructure Development Corporation to provide funding to non-market housing in numbers meeting or exceeding population growth in larger metropolitan areas on Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and across Atlantic Canada.
Unlike the Tories, Trudeau also went further, promising the government would cover development charges for projects that included affordable housing. The Liberals have also committed to conducting of affordable rental housing, aimed at younger Canadians and those who are yet to start cloning the property ladder. Conservatives on the other hand emphasised Trudeau's poor track on housing affordability, combined focusing on making home ownership more affable through market-driven construction of new units for sale.
Both Team Blue and Team Red have committed to expediting the arrival of new skilled trades professionals, especially those working in the housing sector, including interest-free loans to have their qualifications recognised or to up-skill their existing credentials. Liberals however, took a step further, promising automatic Permanent Residency who has worked in residential construction after 1 year, as well issuing Open Work Permits - exempt from the Labour Market Impact Assessment - to anyone with construction work experience willing to come to Canada, so long they continue working in the construction sector for the majority of their time before obtaining permanent residency. The Tories on their part suggested granting PR automatically after they've worked in construction for at least 5 years.
On the matter of banning foreign buyers, both parties have committed to banning home purchases in Canada for those who do not hold Canadian citizenship or are not Permanent Residents of Canada, with Liberals maintaining existing exemptions, so long the person buying has invested an equivalent amount in affordable housing construction.
Rhetorically, the Liberals have echoed the National Housing Act 1938, suggesting their government would run fiscal deficits to finance nation-wide home construction, especially affordable rental units. CPC has openly accused Trudeau of "policy stealing" choosing to emphasis permitting deregulation, subsidies for new units, and investing more construction professionals.

Healthcare & Social Care

Federal Conservatives have focused their attack in increasing waiting times, as well as increasing shortage of medical professionals across the country. Liberals, however, aimed to conservative proposals to introduce more private providers into the system, while emphasising their expansion of public health insurance that now covers both dental care and prescription drugs. Both parties suggested increasing the immigration intake for doctors, nurses, medical researches, providing financial support to have their credentials recognised in Canada as well as to update their skills.
The Liberals have however suggested lowering tuition rates international students who come to study health, social care, and eduction, granted them access to domestic rates of tuition, as well as a designated pathway to Permanent Residency for health, eduction, and social care who have obtained at least 1560 hours of Canadian work experience, and received at least part of their eduction in Canada. This would come as a supplementary measure, with domestic students becoming eligible for federal student loan write off if they have accumulated at least 1 year of post-graduation work experience in health, social care, or education - so long their degree is in the same field.
The Liberals have also committed to covering a Royal Commission to introduce a national social care insurance programme for seniors and people with disabilities.

The Economy

The Conservatives suggest introducing "full expensing" allowing companies to deduct up 120 per cent of their expenses on machinery, equipment, and non-residential property, akin to UK's Super Deduction, to combat Canada's low investment levels. They also propose to introduce tax credits for Canadian companies to up-skill their workers, as well as increased federal funding to provinces to support job training and second career programmes and labour market integration.
The Liberals suggest increasing the minimum wage in federally-regulated institutions, linking as a proportion of executive pay. LPC also pledged to introduce at least 4 weeks of paid vacation after 1 year on employment, with additional increases in line with employee tenure, as outlined in their Convention 2023, while brining paid leave of up to 6 weeks a year, allowing recipients to tradition onto disability payments after that.
Both parties have committed to supporting Employee Ownership Trusts, as well as introduction of worker representation on corporate boards in federally-regulated industries. Team Red however to it a step further, suggesting they will employee ownership mandatory for large corporations , with the only exemption provided for profit-sharing schemes.
Both parties have also supported reforming Canada's Employment Insurance Program:
The Conservatives suggest introducing Individual EI Savings Accounts that any Canadian can access whenever they are let go of their job or decide to quit. The proposed accounts would be funded through mandatory employer and employee contributions and could also be used to pay for labour training and re-skilling, with means-tested federal assistance available for those who's exhausted their accounts. Tories also suggest expanding current marginal earnings projection to apply to both individual and household income. The party also suggests waiving EI Premiums and provide rebates for C/QPP Contribution rebates to those not paying federal income tax, to guarantee every Canadian can earn at least $1000 a month free of payroll deductions.
Trudeau on the other hand suggested making EI coverage universal, and providing up to 90 per cent wage replacement in the first month of claim, while also introducing EI Benefit Floor, where every Canadian would be entitled to a minimum benefit equal to federal minimum wage regardless of their original earnings, for as long as they have enough insurable hours. The Liberal plan also introduces expands "working while on claim" provision, allowing people collecting EI benefits to have their wages supplemented through the program so their total paycheque reaches at least 90 per cent of their average 5-year earnings at all times, regardless whether the claimant is eligible for EI Regular Benefits. EI Parental Benefits are set to be fixed at at least 60 per cent of the family's income, subject o the benefit floor. Liberals suggest paying for the programme through waiving maximum insurable earnings to levy EI Premiums on all income of an individual, while introducing cap on benefits linked to median regional wages. However, the basic exemption shall be aligned to the federal income tax minimum threshold. Surpluses generated should be used to pay for expanded WWoC provisions and putting EI Operating Account back into surplus.
Both parties also committed to brining in a Canada Savers' Creditthat mirrors both the amounts and eligibly criteria of the GST/HST tax credit, but is instead deposited in people's Tax Free Savings Accounts (TFSAs) and automatically invested into corporate equity. Tories and Liberals also support introducing automatic enrolment for Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs), Registered Eduction Savings Plans (RESPs), Registered Disability Savings Plans (RDSP), First Homebuyer Savings Accounts (FHSAs) and TFSAs upon either birth of obtaining Canadian tax residency for eligible non-Canadians. While the Conservative proposal would new accounts automatically linked to existing financial institutions the individual already has an account in, the Liberals instant new accounts should be automatically assigned to a new independent crown corporation, so long the primary account holder haven't decided to the move their registered accounts to an eligible financial institution.
Both parties pitch the policy as a potential interim solution to address Canada's sky-high household debt, through increased asset ownership and participation in stock markets.
When it comes to fiscal policy, the Liberal Government suggests they'll keep their "structural deficit" - as defined by tax revenues versus programme expedites - bellow the rate of economic growth over the 10 year period. LPC however is open they'll not restrain their spending on new housing construction, Ottawa set to absorb almost all the costs of housing under the liberal plan. The Conservatives on the other hand suggest introducing the $1 for $1 rule for federal expenditure, where every dollar of new spending has to be offset by a dollar in spending cuts or increased taxes, suggesting to balance the budget in their first 5 years in the office.
Somewhat comically, the Liberals seem to be attacking Conservative proposals on the grounds it may bring back the pain on the nighties - referring to the Chretien austerity era - especially in Atlantic Canada and the Regions of Quebec where benefit dependency ratios have traditionally been elevated.
The Liberals have also committed to expand existing childcare agreements, to make childcare services and spare available to anyone, and drastically reduce wait times for subsidised spots.

Energy & Environment

The issue has surprisingly played a somewhat muted role during this election, as CPC has contained to opposed federal price on carbon, pressuring the idea of turning Canada into a "natural resource superpower". Liberals on the other hand boasted about their massive investment into Net Zero Transition, while also attacking the Tories one potential fiscal penalties that the government would assume after cancelling the carbon tax. Team Red had also opened to cling to previous commitments of the Conserve Leader to ban overseas oil, which Ontario, and Quebec, as well as Atlantic Canada remain fairly dependent on, due to lack of oil transportation infrastructure from western oil production facilities. Considering the fact Quebec has remained one of Liberal strongholds even at the lowest, as well as the party's perceived electability in the province, CPC would've had even harder to fight for the votes in Quebec.

Tipping the Scales

However, what truly decided this election, was something that may in the future divide the country even more, namely the issue of the French language. Something that has been present in Canadian politics for generations, but something that this time brought a party over the finish line, while completely tanking their opponents.
While both leaders fluent in French, having French Canadian roots, combined with an almost unchallenged dominance of the local Bloc Québécois, it seemed quite unlikely either party would be able to gain any meaningful advantage in Quebec, until both parties have revealed their election manifestos.
Here was the moment the Liberals played their cards best. Namely, the party has committed to supplying French language both within and outside Quebec, through drastically bolstering access to Francophone eduction across the country. The Liberals has committed to introducing a brand-new federal agency tasked with facilitating access to French eduction and integration services - Francisation Canada.
The agency was set to provide free-at-use eduction in French, while also providing up to $1000 a month in finical assistance to immigrants who were willing to learn French. On top of that, the Liberals have committed to make existing Explore and Odyssey Programmes more universal, integrating them into school curriculums across the country. The Party has also committed to negotiating bilateral agreements with all provinces to provide additional funding and guarantee access to services, including eduction in French across Canada, while making French a mandatory subject for Early Learning & Childcare, as well as in secondary education. LPC would also waive tuition fees for post-secondary eduction in French, and negotiate agreements with other francophone countries, to facilitate French-speaking immigration into Canada and Quebec.

Conclusion

Thus, on the night of the election, the sudden realisation waived through the country. The Liberal Party managed to protect their urban ridings, even in West, as their pledge to "spend whether it takes to make houses and rents affordable for everyone" managed to persuade swing urban voters across the country, combined with their massive investment in green transition. The Tories has also lost their lead in Atlantic Canada, where an idea of a massive EI expansion has resonated with voters much more than the concept of individual accounts. Massive subsidies in battery production have also helped the Liberals to protect their seats across Ontario, especially in former industrial towns. However, what actually brought Trudeau over the finish line, was Quebec. The Combination of absolutely massive investments into green tech, coupled with new social programs, and proposed childcare expansion, on top of the Liberal pledge to "protect and promote the French language from Coast to Coast to Coast" allowed the party to make some significant inroads across the province, despite loosing some suburban ridings, Central Canada gave Trudeau yet another chance to form yet another minority Liberal government.

2023.06.05 05:38 mikey852 How to clear a margin balance when I have no positions

Hi,
I am not having my funds swept to the money market because it seems my cash is tied up in margin? I have not had any trades or positions in many months. Even though I have $2k+ in the account, it shows I can only withdraw $100 and my monthly interest is pennies confirming that my funds are not being swept.
In the positions page, there is a "pending activity" section under the "Current Value" column that has been there for many months. It says I have a margin credit balance of $1,827. How do I clear this?
Thanks.

  2. Send bitcoin to an exchange (cheap fee)
  3. Buy MATIC with bitcoin on exchange
  4. Send MATIC to Metamask
This page lists exchanges with low withdrawal fees for MATIC. Kraken and Crypto .com are good choices.

2023.06.05 03:53 DarpResearch Is The Bear Market Over? Will The Economy Fool Everyone and Not Go into Recession? Where Do Oil Stocks Go from Here?

I recently wrote an article that startled me with its reaction. Over 330,000 people read it in two days on Reddit alone. It was We Have Had 2 Recessions And 2 Bear Markets in 3 Years, Will It Be 3 In Just 4 Years? I suggest reading it first. It starts with "I have watched the stock market since the 1970s. Never in my life have I seen so many people think a recession was coming before. Yet this has gone on for about 9 months, and still no recession. "
This Friday, 6-2-2023, was a breakout day for both the SP500 and the Russell 2000 (small caps). The SP500 did a Cup and Handle breakout and the Russell a flat bottom base breakout. The NASDAQ 100 has already broken out, for a while. Yes, there are all sorts of bad things and stock valuations are poor. But does that mean the stock market will not go up? Look at 2020 and 2021 as recent examples of bad problems and extremely high valuations, and the stock market still went up big anyway. We have had two bear markets in the last 3 years, a rare event. One other factor. Oil stocks are at arguably the best valuations ever and maybe the best sector valuation ever. The Russell small caps recently made new lows in its ongoing bear market, which after Friday, is maybe over. The Russell blew away the NASDAQ on Friday, in terms of gains.
What happened on Friday? Well, the debt ceiling was kicked down the road as it always is and the Jobs report fooled everyone again This has been going on for about 9 months now, with almost everyone bearish and expecting a recession. The jobs market is actually hot. This was not predicted at all.
I totally agree with people like Danny Moses, Guy Adami, Carter Worth and Dan Nathan that point out all the bad things as they do in this video, but does that mean we will crash, as they have been expecting for months? They do a good job of making the bear case, but then what happened? The next day the Russell broke out of that range they talked about containing it, on their chart. YouTube link to that will be in comments.
So, will the economy fool everyone and not go into recession? Maybe, and sure has so far.
To the last question Where Do Oil Stocks Go from Here? This one I am much surer of; in my opinion they will go into a historic bull market. I have already experienced one, having bought them heavily in 2020 COVID crash. Received several 10x and 20x movers and just about any oil stock did a 5x in that rally.
Here is a happy story of what is possible in such bull markets in oil stocks. I bought Cardinal, a Canadian oil stock. Got a 20 bagger and now it has a 1% a month roughly dividend. Yes, that means I am roughly getting 200% yearly dividends now and have been getting them for a while. And in the last month have bought more Cardinal. At 1% dividend a month on a 4 PE stock with a CROIC of 30%, it is still a great deal. The valuations are better now than in 2020 for oil stocks. Back then they were in danger of going under, but dirt cheap. Now dirt cheap at higher prices, yet much higher safety with wonderful balance sheets and cash flows.
These two charts show that oil stocks are dirt cheap and spending less on CapEx than ever before, as a percent of Cash Flow. This time is different, they are not overinvesting as they did every time before when oil went over $100. Again, link in comments.
Eric Nuttal, who runs Canada's biggest oil stock fund, talked about the coming oil stock bull market in a recent video. About how buybacks can drive a $20 oil stocks to over $1 million a share, unless they go up greatly before the buyouts complete. Do not scoff, he is right. He makes the case for oil stocks and high cashflow oil stock buybacks so well in this video, I will not comment myself. The whole thing is worth viewing, but this link starts where he talks buybacks.
On buybacks will do some math here. In this case if a stock started at $20 a share, $1 billion FCF and mkt cap of $3 billion = 150 million shares you will get to $1 billion a share in 3 years if 100% of FCF goes to buybacks and stock does not go up before then. If it rerates to 9x FCF after 1 year then was 3x FCF, 33% of stock removed = 100,000,000 shares and $9 billion market cap = $90 a share a 4.5 X gain in one year.
Reality today June 2023 is the best, we have had big buybacks and prices have stayed about the same in last 12 months on oil stocks. Debt is way down, so they have more money for buybacks.
So, let's go 1 more year at current prices. $1 billion FCF is spent buying back stock. That is 50% of stock left, so now just 50,000,000 shares left. Then it goes to 9 FCF (still cheaper than avg stock out there) so $9 billion mkt cap / 50,000,000 shares left = $180 a share, so a X gain. Pretty good.
Let's go 1 more year. Let's say the market was as stupid as it was in 6-2022 to 6-2023 and price stays the same. That means the remaining 50,000,000 shares are bot back, except for just 1 share. Then it goes to 9 X FCF = $9 billion mkt cap and 1 share = $9 Billion a share. A 450 million times gain. This will not happen because eventually the market wakes up to how stupid it has been after 10?, 20?, 50? times increase in earnings per share, and it rerates the stock way higher, until it no longer is worth buying back. In fact, the company might sell some back for 20 times more than they bought it for, if it makes sense to. Also, if a company gets 2/3s of its stock back, then its EPS going forward, for every Q, will be 3 times higher.
As an example of what can happen with buybacks with far inferior cashflows, and valuations is Teledyne. George Roberts, who worked alongside Singleton, described the experience like this:
Henry was quoted as saying, with a laugh, “In October, 1972, we tendered for one million shares and 8.9 million came in. We took them all at $20 and figured it was a fluke, and that we couldn’t do it again. But instead of going up, our stock went down. So we kept tendering, first at $14 and then doing two bonds-for-stock swaps. Every time one tender was over the stock would go down and we’d tender again, and we’d get a new deluge. Then two more tenders at $18 and $40.”
The first six buybacks were all in the period from 1972 to 1976. The market reacted adversely to this at first, not understanding what Henry was accomplishing. But as the number of shares went down and the company’s operating income continued to grow, the earnings per share increased rapidly and dramatically. In 1970, net income per share was $1.64. By 1975 it was $6.09 per share; in 1976, $10.79; and in 1977, $16.23 per share.
With the first six stock buybacks, a total of some 22 million Teledyne share were repurchased, reducing the number of outstanding common shares to less than 12 million. A seventh stock buyback offer was made in 1980 and the final one in 1984, at the extraordinarily high price of $200 per share. This was about $30 above the current market price and eight million shares were bought back. By September of that year the stock had climbed to $302 per share and was the highest priced stock on the New York Stock Exchange.
The total value of these buybacks was over $2.5 billion, and more than 85 percent of common shares were retired. Shares outstanding had dropped from 88,827,372 in 1971 to 22,564,756 in 1980. Henry also purchased another 5 percent of Teledyne shares on the open market at various times, bringing the buyback total in the years 1972-1984 to over 90 percent of the company’s shares.
Singleton eventually paid off the debt used to buy back shares. By 1985, net income per share was $46.66. The buybacks created a compounding effect on earnings per share.
Remember oil stocks that are doing, or about to do, buybacks are at about 3-7 times better valuations than Teledyne, so they can compound better. Teledyne was never in a position to buy back at a fast enough rate, so that all of their stock could be bought back in 3-4 years, just with free cash flow. So, Teledyne was not even close to being able to do what oil stocks can do today.
An example is Cenovus. As Nuttal pointed out CVE has committed to 100% of FCF to go to buybacks soon, after debt drops. They can buy back all their stock in less than 4 years, unless the stock rerates higher. Teledyne was never even close to being capable to do that.
We just got a kicker for oil stocks, one guessed was coming, just a matter of size.
Sunday (Bloomberg) -- Oil advanced at the week’s open after Saudi Arabia said it will make an extra 1 million barrel-a-day supply cut in July, taking its production to the lowest level for several years following a slide in prices. West Texas Intermediate futures jumped almost 5% early in the session before paring some gains to trade near $74 a barrel. Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said he “will do whatever is necessary to bring stability to this market” following a tense OPEC+ meeting over the weekend. “The oil market now looks like it will be even tighter in the second half of the year,” ANZ Group Holdings Ltd. analysts Brian Martin and Daniel Hynes wrote in a note. “The move by Saudi Arabia is likely to come as a surprise.”

2023.06.05 03:41 thehighpriestess4 [Online][5e][LGBTQIA+ Friendly][18+][Sunday][Bi-Weekly] Looking for one player to join a long-term homebrew campaign!

Hello! Two of my friends and I are currently looking for another player for a homebrew campaign I've been running. We play every other weekend on Sunday or Saturday (usually Sunday) at 2pm EDT on Discord. We plan our next session at the end of every session. Sessions usually last ~4 hours. We are an all-queer group. New players are welcome.

About the Party

My name is Gavin and my pronouns are they/them and I'm the DM. I'm fairly new at DMing, but I've been playing DnD for over 2 years now. I'm a big rules nerd but I tend to favor the Rule of Cool.
Players:
Don't worry about party balance. If the party is struggling with healing, there's health potions for that. If the party is struggling with doing enough damage, there's magic weapons for that. Play whatever kind of character will be fun for you :)

About the Campaign

We are playing in a homebrew world I made with its own pantheon of gods. The world, Oberron, is roughly split into different city-states. You can find a google doc with info about the gods here. There is a lore channel in the discord with maps for the world and more lore. I continue to worldbuild as the campaign goes on.
Lately, in the world of Oberron, monsters have been popping up all over the planet, terrorizing the inhabitants of the world. Where are these monsters coming from and how will the world defend itself from their onslaught?
A copper dragonborn from Kangto set off on a journey hunting these strange creatures after one of them ravaged his hometown. On his journey, he came across a village that had been terrorized by chicken-like creatures who could turn people into stone. He and a local tracked the creatures to a cave and, with some help, exterminated them and some strange hamsters they were with. Upon searching the cave the party found books written in sylvan detailing transmutation experiments and a map of the world with three glowing dots of red light, one of which was right at the spot they stood, and they watched as the dot marking the cave faded and disappeared.
They are now on a mission traveling to these spots and fighting new monsters, battling strange new creatures and, sometimes, fairies.
Will you join our heroes and protect the people of this world?
The party is currently level 4 and I plan on level-ups happening every 3 or 4 sessions. I plan on the campaign lasting until around level 15. I like to play in worlds with a lot of magic, so it will be common for NPCs to have at least some low-level magical abilities and magic items won't be super rare. I also like to make homebrew magic items specifically tailored for my players. We are using theater of the mind for our sessions. There is potential for inter-planar travel in this campaign as well as venturing into the underdark if that's something that interests you. There is a new monster every session or two, with an overarching villain that will become more obvious as the campaign goes on, and this will eventually lead to an epic ending to the campaign. If you've ever seen Supernatural, this campaign's structure is similar to that (though not intentionally lol).
This campaign setting is free of homophobia, racism, transphobia, misogyny, etc. I have no interest in playing these things, tension and conflict comes from other places. There will be no pvp without enthusiastic consent from all parties (including stealing from other PCs). I also have a consent-in-gaming form for you to fill out if you end up joining our group.

Next Session

Our next session is on Sunday, June 11th, at 2pm EDT. I am hoping to have our new player join that session for a Pride one-shot to meet the party and get a chance to play with the group before continuing the main campaign. This should give you a few weeks to build your character for the main campaign.
For the one-shot, make a level 11 character that is part of the wedding party of two brides. You can choose 1 rare magic item and 1 uncommon magic item (or you could choose items of lower rarity).

Building Your Character

When you build your character you have access to all official content and, with permission, any homebrew or UA content. I also have things I've homebrewed that are available, including a race of mushroom people called the boletarii and four sorcerer subclasses I'm currently working on. The sorcerer subclasses are meant to be for descendants of four of the five original gods in my world. They are fire/sun, knowledge/sky, earth/forge, and watechaos. Stats will be rolled in Discord by the usual 4d6 drop the lowest method. If your stat total is below 75, then you can re-roll if you want. HP will also be rolled on Discord. You also can modify your racial ability modifiers to be a +2 in one stat and a +1 in another, or a +1 in three different stats, like WOTC's recently released races. You can choose one uncommon magical item or we can work together to homebrew one for your character.

2023.06.05 03:15 Gekicker08 Longings 342 Running very fast after service.

Any tips on getting this revved up movement to calm down a bit? I replaced the mainspring, did a deep clean and re-assembled the movement but it’s gaining about 7 seconds per minute. I’ve adjusted the balance adjustment to try and slow it down but she’s running a sprint race! I need a timegrapher, but funds don’t allow that sort of thing just yet.

2023.06.05 03:06 IntriguedStarfish $50 Referral + $10 Many Times Over + $10 From Me - Spritz Finance (USA)

$50 Referral + $10 Many Times Over + $10 From Me - Spritz Finance (USA)
Spritz Finance lets you easily use your crypto for everyday expenses. They currently offer a virtual debit card, crypto-wallet-to-bank transfer, bill payment using crypto and paying anyone to his/her bank using crypto.
Right now, if you sign up through my referral link and fund your Spritz virtual debit card with $50 or more with your crypto, you get $50 instantly! You can shop with your Spritz card or transfer your money to CashApp. There is also a separate promotion that rewards you a $10 matching bonus for your 1st payment for EVERY bill you have! I was able to score $110 total, for paying $10 each for all my 11 different credit cards.
Plus, I will personally thank you by sending you $10 for using my referral, upon payout confirmation!
Spritz accepts several kinds of crypto, but I recommend using MATIC (Polygon) because its transactions are dirt cheap (5-10 cents each time) and fast (seconds). Do use MATIC on Polygon Mainnet, NOT MATIC that's ERC-20 on Ethereum chain (Learn more). I'll be using MATIC throughout this guide, though you can use any supported crypto.
---
To Get $50 Referral Bonus + $10 From Me:
  1. Sign up for Spritz Finance using my referral link: https://app.spritz.finance/signup?grsf=iytq7z
  2. Verify your identity to finish your account set up.
  3. If you don't have a crypto wallet yet, set one up. I recommend Metamask, and you can follow this guide.
  4. From a crypto exchange, send at least $53 worth of MATIC (Polygon) to Metamask. Make sure you're withdrawing to Polygon mainnet, NOT to Ethereum/ERC-20. You want to have extra room of $3+ in MATIC for paying transaction fees later and $1 extra when withdrawing your bonus credit. Make the send amount $53 + $10 x number of your bills, in MATIC, if you are going for the bill-pay bonuses as well. You can read my tips section for how to transfer your crypto the same day and saving $ on fees when sending your MATIC.
  5. Back on your Spritz page, press "Spend" to set up your Spritz virtual debit card.
  6. Click "Fund with Crypto" and connect your wallet (Metamask etc.). Select/switch to Polygon network at the top of the screen.
  7. Enter $50 or more for the funding amount. Remember, you'll want to leave $3+ worth of MATIC in your wallet.
  8. Press "Fund with M" and confirm in your wallet to finalize your transaction.
  9. You'll see $50 added to your "bonus credit" INSTANTLY!
  10. DM me and tell me the email address you registered with Spritz. Upon confirmation of both our payouts, I will send you $10 via CashApp, PayPal etc.
In Step 5, you can choose "Off-ramp" instead to cash out $50+ your crypto to your bank account to qualify for the $50 referral bonus.
To Get The $10 Bill-Pay Bonus Many Times Over:
  1. Within 7 days of signup, go to "Pay" at screen-top to begin a bill-pay.
  2. Add an account to pay. You can add a variety of bills including credit card and utility bills.
  3. Press "Pay with crypto", connect your wallet and enter at least $10. The max matching bonus of $10 is added in the final amount.
  4. Press "Pay with M" and confirm to send the payment.
  5. Repeat the steps above for other bills. You get $10 for making your 1st bill payment for EVERY bill you have! I got $110 total for paying off 11 different credit cards :) If your credit card balance is zero, you'll just get $20 statement credit for use later on!
How To Withdraw/Use Your Bonus Credit:
You can use your bonus credit in one of the following ways:
  1. Top up your Spritz card to shop with it <--- (You can transfer to CashApp)
  2. "Off-ramp" payment (transferring crypto to your bank)
  3. Pay a bill
  4. Pay someone
Press "Apply" to apply your "reward balance". Do note that you do have to add minimum of $1 in MATIC for one of these transaction.
Tips On Moving Your Crypto (MATIC etc.) To Your Wallet:
Coinbase is a great choice if you're starting out with crypto because it's easy to use. But Coinbase and many other exchanges will make you wait a few days until you can withdraw your crypto you buy from regular ACH bank transfer. If you want to buy and withdraw crypto the same day, try this method:
  1. Buy bitcoin with debit card in Strike app (cheap fee)
  2. Send bitcoin to an exchange (cheap fee)
  3. Buy MATIC with bitcoin on exchange
  4. Send MATIC to Metamask
This page lists exchanges with low withdrawal fees for MATIC. Kraken and Crypto .com are good choices.
---
Spritz charges you nothing if your monthly total transaction is below $100. After that, you start to incur small fees. See Fee Table.
Spritz' referral program is described here (clarification: funding Spritiz card IS a qualifying bill payment).
Spritz' bill-payment bonus is described here.
USA only. There is no credit check.
Please feel free to DM me to ask questions. I appreciate you using my referral link!
